Judges 12
1And the men of Ephraim gathered themselves together, and went northward, and said unto Jephthah, Wherefore passedst thou over to fight against the children of Ammon, and didst not call us to go with thee? we will burn thine house upon thee with fire.
2And Jephthah said unto them, I and my people were at great strife with the children of Ammon; and when I called you, ye delivered me not out of their hands.
3And when I saw that ye delivered me not, I put my life in my hands, and passed over against the children of Ammon, and the LORD delivered them into my hand: wherefore then are ye come up unto me this day, to fight against me?
4Then Jephthah gathered together all the men of Gilead, and fought with Ephraim: and the men of Gilead smote Ephraim, because they said, Ye Gileadites are fugitives of Ephraim among the Ephraimites, and among the Manassites.
5And the Gileadites took the passages of Jordan before the Ephraimites: and it was so, that when those Ephraimites which were escaped said, Let me go over; that the men of Gilead said unto him, Art thou an Ephraimite? If he said, Nay;
6Then said they unto him, Say now Shibboleth: and he said Sibboleth: for he could not frame to pronounce it right. Then they took him, and slew him at the passages of Jordan: and there fell at that time of the Ephraimites forty and two thousand.
7And Jephthah judged Israel six years. Then died Jephthah the Gileadite, and was buried in one of the cities of Gilead.
8And after him Ibzan of Bethlehem judged Israel.
9And he had thirty sons, and thirty daughters, whom he sent abroad, and took in thirty daughters from abroad for his sons. And he judged Israel seven years.
10Then died Ibzan, and was buried at Bethlehem.
11And after him Elon, a Zebulonite, judged Israel; and he judged Israel ten years.
12And Elon the Zebulonite died, and was buried in Aijalon in the country of Zebulun.
13And after him Abdon the son of Hillel, a Pirathonite, judged Israel.
14And he had forty sons and thirty nephews, that rode on threescore and ten ass colts: and he judged Israel eight years.
15And Abdon the son of Hillel the Pirathonite died, and was buried in Pirathon in the land of Ephraim, in the mount of the Amalekites.
The POFW Daily Bible Reading 
We should be careful not to stick our nose into peoples business where our nose has no business. The men of Ephraim stuck their nose into Jephthah’s business. They could have been been happy for Jephthah for their victory instead of getting upset and starting fussing with Jephthah. God put an end to the men of Ephraim’s nosiness.
Yes Amen! The Apostle Paul said,

WOW, Jephthath really knew his history and facts. In the previous chapter he explained in detail the History of the land, and now he comes up with this statement, “2And Jephthah said unto them, I and my people were at great strife with the children of Ammon; and when I called you, ye delivered me not out of their hands.
SIDE NOTE(The Jewish people need A WISE JEPHTHATH to stand up to the Palistinans and tell them…Excuse me, this is not your land)
If we dont know our Bibles, then our enemies, or even our brothers will be able speak condemnation upon us.

3. And when I saw that ye delivered me not, I put my life in my hands, and passed over against the children of Ammon, and the LORD delivered them into my hand: wherefore then are ye come up unto me this day, to fight against me?
God didn’t need their help, anyway; He doesn’t need great numbers, he just needs people who are willing to go and work.
vs 6 Even the way we speak should let others know that we belong to Jesus. Our love for him should be so strong that we cannot “hide” it even if we tried.
I know that in this chapter it sounds like there’s punishment for doing right. Jephthah’s house was going to be burned up for being a man of God and Jesus delivered him out of it. vs 1-3.
Alot of people think that its boring to do right but there’s reward in the end. God comes in on the scene and takes care of the situation and puts a protection of His mighty will and love over us. Thank you Jesus for teaching us right from wrong and the sacrifices to be made to walk into a new way of life with you Jesus. Thank you for you’re protection to bring us to safety. I’ve been in situations (like having a knife to my throat and being choked )that when I prayed Jesus came to rescue me out to safety and there’s my escape!
I will never be able to thank the LORD enough.
THE POWER OF A LETTER
6 Then said they unto him, Say now Shibboleth: and he said Sibboleth: for he could not frame to pronounce it right. Then they took him, and slew him at the passages of Jordan: and there fell at that time of the Ephraimites forty and two thousand.
One missing letter destroyed 42,000 people. We MUST Eat This Book to Know This Book. The missing letter “H” revealed the spirit of deception.
We learn a principal from this passage that almost correct is not good enough. The word was not much different.
7641. shibboleth, shib-bo´-leth; a stream (as flowing); also an ear of grain (as growing out); by analogy, a branch:—branch, channel, ear (of corn), ((water-))flood, Shibboleth.
5451. sib-bo´-leth; an ear of grain:—Sibboleth.
Matthew 5:18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.
There are 3 principals we learn from this:
1. Our knowledge of and ability to speak the Word of GOD will literally affect thousands of lives.
2. To change or misquote anything in the Word of GOD is deadly.
3. Deception is deadly.

Scripture says very little about the judge Abdon, who rules Israel for 8yrs, other than him having an amazing 40 sons and 30 grandsons, all of whom are notes because they ride on 70 donkeys. Back in this era of the judges those of power and influence rode on donkeys. That Abdon’s sons and grandsons rode on them marks them as prestigious and probably wealthy men, definately a note worth noticing. A horse seems to be a more sutiable animal for riding. However, horses arent of common use until after the time of Solomon, who imports them from Egypt (2 Chr 1:16; 9:28; 1 Ki 10:29).
When Jesus enters Jerusalem, he doesnt chose to ride a horse as a sign of power or authority. He instead chooses a donkey and distinguishes himself “meek” as one worthy of notice because o his humilty and grace (Mrk 11:7-8; Mat 21:5-7; Lk 19:33-35). What I found interesting was that he did not ride on the full grown donkey, but the colt, its young instead and noteably never ridden before. One of two things come to mind ..1st that he rode the colt because he is presenting himself as the Son of God, by riding the young colt…but 2nd that he is looking for a vessel to use, the colt had never been ridden before, he wants a chruch (bride) without spot or wrinkle. Once we empty ourselves out before Him he has the abilty to fill our cup.
Judges12:5,6
The Gileaditas captured the fords of the Jordan leading to Ephraim,and whenever a survivor of Ephraim said,”let me cross over” ” the men of Gilead asked him, ” Are you an Ephraimite?”if he replied “no” 6.they said,”all right say “Sibboleth” because he could not pronounce the word correctly,they seized him and killed him at the fords of the Jordan.
Forty-two thousand Ephraimites were killed at that time.
——If God is going to give us the victory.he will give us the wisdom to handle whatever situation we are in……
Prov.2:6 for the Lord gives wisdom,and from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.

Why is it when we get a blessing, it’s the people that haven’t been in church who are the ones that get mad because they missed out? This is what happened here. The man of God asked for help and the people denied him help.
We must realize that when the man of God asks for help that he means it, and that with out hesitation we should help.
Instead of rejoicing over there victory they were meddling. Prov 20:3 “It is an honour for a man to cease from strife: but every fool will be meddling.” We should be very careful not to lose sight of the things God has done for others and us. Satan wants us to meddle and cause strife to cause disunity and to keep us from going to the next level spiritually.

There will always be a test to see if we are who we say we are. I read a quote somewhere yesterday that said “if you are accused of being a christian is there enough evidence to prove it?” Our lives, actions, mannerisms, and words should all speak volumes to people about who we are. The only way that will happen is if we eat this book. If we don’t eat it then we don’t know it, if we don’t know it we can’t repeat it.

“Don’t pick a fight you can’t win”
Who in the world picks a fight with this mighty man of valour? Sure, he’s not perfect…sure he made a bad oath…but he knew the Word, knew the history of Israel…and knew the God of Israel. These are usually not the types of people you want to pick fights with.
v1 “And didst not call us to go with thee ?”
We will burn thine house upon thee with fire.
The Ephraimites had a spirit of jealouy, envy and judgmental..GOD hates a proud look.
We must be careful with attitudes and spirits of ego’s . Ego’s violates the scriptures, and egos
Love to see and hear a good morsel of juicy gossip. The Apostle Paul said,” To Mind your own business and work” 1 Th. 4:11
That’s why we have to get back to the book and eat it everyday.
The real you is not revealed until the ego is gone, and if JESUS is in our hearts HE will have us to pray, fast ,love and work for HIM.
The more of JESUS we have the lesser of ego
JESUS is the Master of every situation
Everything that is not of JESUS shall come down….42,000 Ephraimites did.

How important it is to know the word of God and be able to quote it. His inability to quote the word caused thousands of lives to be lost. We should study to show ourselves approved in the word and be instant in and out of season to quote Gods word to the world.
we need to mind our own buisness and not worry about other peoples business. If you see a brother or sister hurting pray for them and let God direct them, what’s that old saying clean out your own house before you clean out someone else’s house.
We need to pray for each others

The Ephraimites were the largest and leading tribe in the north. Resentment of Jepththahs victort impelled them to cross the Jordan to discipline. Hewas less dipplomatic than Gideonand gave the Ephramites a severe beating.
if you do what you are asked that is what is expected of use . to do without being asked that is like gold and the blessing are much sweeter .

Strongs definition of Shibboleth – ; a stream (as flowing); also an ear of grain (as growing out); by analogy, a branch:—branch, channel, ear (of corn), ((water-))flood, Shibboleth.
Discord and unforgivness within the body stops the flow of anointing.

Some business we are supposed to be involved in, but we wait until too late and try to enter in where there is no longer a place for us. God places us in the path of people for specific reasons of ministry (such as nurturing/discipling new babes) but if we fail to step in in a timely manner, we will likely find ourselves unwelcome later. We must be diligent to answer the call when it comes and be instant in season, out of season.

What we have here is a case of bullying. Ephraim thought they would just come in and take control of the Gileadites, but jephthah said not so. You know the devil is always trying to bully God’s children around, but if we never stand up to him and always back down, then he will win every encounter. God made his children to be strong and to stand up to anything that goes against his word.
This chapter illustrates hearing. “And God hearkened to the voice of Manoah” God hears the prayers of his people however our time is not always his time. Therefore we must learn to wait upon the Lord; “But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint”. This chapter illustrates deceit. “Then said they unto him, Say now Shibboleth: and he said Sibboleth”. This is why we must study the Word, so that we are not deceived; (2 Timothy 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth). Verses 2-3 in the MSG read….”Jephthah said, “I and my people had our hands full negotiating with the Ammonites. And I did call to you for help but you ignored me. When I saw that you weren’t coming, I took my life in my hands and confronted the Ammonites myself. And God gave them to me! So why did you show up here today? Are you spoiling for a fight with me?”
These verses tell me to be ready and willing to help someone else when they cry out for help. I do not ever want to have the me, me, me, me attitude. We should be willing to lift up our brothers/sisters in prayer when they are in need.
