Judges 13

1And the children of Israel did evil again in the sight of the LORD; and the LORD delivered them into the hand of the Philistines forty years.

2And there was a certain man of Zorah, of the family of the Danites, whose name was Manoah; and his wife was barren, and bare not.

3And the angel of the LORD appeared unto the woman, and said unto her, Behold now, thou art barren, and bearest not: but thou shalt conceive, and bear a son.

4Now therefore beware, I pray thee, and drink not wine nor strong drink, and eat not any unclean thing:

5For, lo, thou shalt conceive, and bear a son; and no razor shall come on his head: for the child shall be a Nazarite unto God from the womb: and he shall begin to deliver Israel out of the hand of the Philistines.

6Then the woman came and told her husband, saying, A man of God came unto me, and his countenance was like the countenance of an angel of God, very terrible: but I asked him not whence he was, neither told he me his name:

7But he said unto me, Behold, thou shalt conceive, and bear a son; and now drink no wine nor strong drink, neither eat any unclean thing: for the child shall be a Nazarite to God from the womb to the day of his death.

8Then Manoah intreated the LORD, and said, O my Lord, let the man of God which thou didst send come again unto us, and teach us what we shall do unto the child that shall be born.

9And God hearkened to the voice of Manoah; and the angel of God came again unto the woman as she sat in the field: but Manoah her husband was not with her.

10And the woman made haste, and ran, and shewed her husband, and said unto him, Behold, the man hath appeared unto me, that came unto me the other day.

11And Manoah arose, and went after his wife, and came to the man, and said unto him, Art thou the man that spakest unto the woman? And he said, I am.

12And Manoah said, Now let thy words come to pass. How shall we order the child, and how shall we do unto him?

13And the angel of the LORD said unto Manoah, Of all that I said unto the woman let her beware.

14She may not eat of any thing that cometh of the vine, neither let her drink wine or strong drink, nor eat any unclean thing: all that I commanded her let her observe.

15And Manoah said unto the angel of the LORD, I pray thee, let us detain thee, until we shall have made ready a kid for thee.

16And the angel of the LORD said unto Manoah, Though thou detain me, I will not eat of thy bread: and if thou wilt offer a burnt offering, thou must offer it unto the LORD. For Manoah knew not that he was an angel of the LORD.

17And Manoah said unto the angel of the LORD, What is thy name, that when thy sayings come to pass we may do thee honour?

18And the angel of the LORD said unto him, Why askest thou thus after my name, seeing it is secret?

19So Manoah took a kid with a meat offering, and offered it upon a rock unto the LORD: and the angel did wonderously; and Manoah and his wife looked on.

20For it came to pass, when the flame went up toward heaven from off the altar, that the angel of the LORD ascended in the flame of the altar. And Manoah and his wife looked on it, and fell on their faces to the ground.

21But the angel of the LORD did no more appear to Manoah and to his wife. Then Manoah knew that he was an angel of the LORD.

22And Manoah said unto his wife, We shall surely die, because we have seen God.

23But his wife said unto him, If the LORD were pleased to kill us, he would not have received a burnt offering and a meat offering at our hands, neither would he have shewed us all these things, nor would as at this time have told us such things as these.

24And the woman bare a son, and called his name Samson: and the child grew, and the LORD blessed him.

25And the Spirit of the LORD began to move him at times in the camp of Dan between Zorah and Eshtaol.

  1. v8 Then Manoah untreated the LORD, and said, O my LORD, let the man of GOD which thou didst send come again unto us, and teach is what we shall do unto the child that shall be born

Manoah’s Prayer A beautiful example for all parents. We are not wise enough to teach our children without GOD.

  2. 7But he said unto me, Behold, thou shalt conceive, and bear a son; and now drink no wine nor strong drink, neither eat any unclean thing: for the child shall be a Nazarite to God from the womb to the day of his death.

    Purity is important!!!!

The story of Samson shows us how important it is to be pure. God is looking for a people without spot or blemish. The unclean cannot get into heaven. Prayer, fasting and reading the word of God are key elements in keeping ourselves undefiled.

Samsons mother had to keep herself from strong drinks and from eating any unclean things. Spiriually, we must watch what we eat. Just as junk food in the natural is bad for, so is junk food in the spirit. It will keep you from being active in God and you will not get the nutrients you need in order to grow in the spirit. Let’s watch what we eat and what we do, because God was a spritually clean and healthy people.

  3. We often times want to hear God speak directly to us,when sometimes we just need to listen what is around us. God sent an angle, yet God has also sent people, and animals to speak. As did an angle for Lot and his family, God used a bush to speak through to Moses, He used a donkey in the New Testament too. This is why we need to listen to the men of God in our lives, just as much as we need to read, pray, and fast. We need to put works with our faith as well.

  4. iPray – GOD Answers

Illustrated in this passage is a very vivid and clear illustration of what a prayer relationship with the Lord GOD of Heaven is like.

Manoah believed but did not understand all that was about to happen in this miraculous event. He inquired of the LORD for instruction and direction. This same principal applies today to our seeking the LORD along with his demonstration.

There are many types and shadows in this chapter; I am going to point out 2 of them.

    1. The announced birth of a son. (This is illustrated and established so that Israel could say of Jesus’ birth “we have seen this before” and that we could see the Love of GOD for his people that if he cannot find a man to use he will birth one).

    2. The Angel that spoke to and led Manoah is like a Pastor. (The Angel taught them enough to be able to believe for themselves (21)… Then Manoah knew that he was an angel of the LORD. This is the role of a Pastor and why John refers to them as Angels in Revelations 2-3.)

    “God Hears our Prayer”

9And God hearkened to the voice of Manoah…

This is an awesome illustration of God hearing the prayers of his people.

******Today we will pray before we go on outreach and God will hear our prayer and will give us children… God will use us IF we send up a sacrifice upon the ROCK before we go. Angels of God will go forth before us IF we will fear the Lord and will get our heart right. THE SPIRIT OF GOD WILL MOVE UPON US IN JESUS NAME.********

  6. Pay Attention Men!

Manoah jumped to the conclusion that “we shall surely die, because we have seen the Lord”. While I can understand our minds might be all over the place as to how to prepare for an unexpected baby; don’t forget the details. Manoah’s wife pointed out “If the LORD were pleased to kill us, he would not have received a burnt offering and a meat offering at our hands, neither would he have shewed us all these things, nor would as at this time have told us such things as these.”

Remember the saying “don’t sweat the small stuff”. This does not apply to God and things of God. God is in the details!

  7. 3.And the angel of the Lord appeared to her and said,”you are sterile and childless, but you are going to conceive and have a son.

—-this is nothing but the “favor of God”
—-do not know about, hear about Samson yet,but we do know about “this wonderful marriage”.
—–I see that in this marriage between Manoah and his wife there is communication, respect, honor, trust, honesty ….
    —-firstable

    • Firstable; She didn’t. Hide what happens to her to her husband,in fact that’s the first thing she did,to come and tell her husband what has happened to her.
8.then Manoah PRAYED to Th LOrd,”O Lod I beg you,let the man of God you sent to us come again…….
Yeap! He prayed,he is the head of the house….
—-God does hears our prayers and answer them according to his will…..
      What a marriage!!!!!
She took off and went to get her husband,he needs to be there,to hear what the Angel of the Lord had to say…
      Love,trust,submition,respect,a THANFUL heart,an obedient people,communication,team work………..
—–(my answer is on the way!!!!!)
      God is good……

    “Ask and Ye Shall Receive”

Then Manoah intreated the Lord, and said, O my Lord, let the man of God which thou didst send come again unto us, and teach us what we shall do unto the child that shall be born. (Judges 13:8 KJV)

So many times we do not receive because we do not ask.

All we have to do is follow this great example and we will have our prayers answered.

  9. Gods love is awsome. He not only sent the angel once but again when they the husband prayed and asked the Lord to send him again so that he might hear what he told his wife. God hears our prayers even the ones we dont think He hears but we have to remeber that it has or never will be our time but His and His alone. my prayers to God are being anwered and all i had to do was speak it receive and wait on it and my God is revealing more and more to me as i continue my walk with Him. one day and i dont know when but my God has showed me that me and my family will be praising Him at POFW and i cant wait but until then i will keep giving Him the phraise. God knows the desires of my heart but i speak them out loud in prayer because the word says you have not cause you ask not and i want it to be none that i have asked of my father and He has answered me. be blessed

  10. 3. And the angel of the LORD appeared unto the woman, and said unto her, Behold now, thou art barren, and bearest not: but thou shalt conceive, and bear a son.

    12. And Manoah said, Now let thy words come to pass. How shall we order the child, and how shall we do unto him?

Instead of questioning the man of God, they sought direction, simply accepting the miracle as though it had already taken place.

    Hebrews 11:1
Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

  11. v12 And Manoah said,Now let thy words come to pass, How shall we order the child, and how shall we do unto him?

Manoah wanted to understand his responsibility in rearing this child. He wanted to prepare his son for his appointed mission.
We as the spiritual mother church have the responsibility not only giving birth to babies but also in rearing and nurture them with love
If all the backsliders would come back home the Kingdom of GOD would be so enrich.
It’s just as important to keep a soul saved as it is to get one saved.
Samson heart was cold and his eyes set in the things of this world.
Let set on eyes on things above and contribute
our strength to be a strong and healthy spiritual mother.

  12. This chapter illustrates hearing. “And God hearkened to the voice of Manoah” God hears the prayers of his people however our time is not always his time. Therefore we must learn to wait upon the Lord; “But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint”. May the good Lord bless you all in Jesus name, Amen

  13. 16And the angel of the LORD said unto Manoah, Though thou detain me, I will not eat of thy bread: and if thou wilt offer a burnt offering, thou must offer it unto the LORD. For Manoah knew not that he was an angel of the LORD.

All that we do(offer) for the kingdom must be to the Lord and not to others. Only what we do for Christ will last.

  14. Samson, the son of the sun, was born with a vow to God. Everything his parents could do to raise him correctly they did. We all make our choice to fall in love with God or the world.

Joshua “choose you this day whom he will serve”

  15. Verse 8 in the MSG reads…..”Manoah prayed to God: “Master, let the man of God you sent come to us again and teach us how to raise this boy who is to be born.” This should be every parents desire and request to our Master, teach us how to raise our children. We should always seek the guidance of the Lord.

  16. Name “beyond understanding” “too wonderful for you to understand.”

17And Manoah said unto the angel of the LORD, What is thy name, that when thy sayings come to pass we may do thee honour?

18And the angel of the LORD said unto him, Why askest thou thus after my name, seeing it is secret?

JESUS! vs 11 he says “I am” which means he already announced himself. Sometimes we dont recognize what’s right before us, even if its too wonderful and beyond understanding.

  17. Verse1 the children of Isreal did evil in the sight of God. once again the children of israel turn back from God. Even when they were backslid God was raising a deliverer named Samson. God already had plan in place to get them out of their bad situation. He does the same thing in our lives when we put ourselves in bad position he makes a way for us to escape.

  18. 13And the angel of the LORD said unto Manoah, Of all that I said unto the woman let her beware.

14She may not eat of any thing that cometh of the vine, neither let her drink wine or strong drink, nor eat any unclean thing: all that I commanded her let her observe.

I find it interesting that she was given instructions of dos/don’ts in order to receive the promise of her “son” and she was willing to make the necessary sacrifices. How many times are we given promises, but aren’t willing to make the sacrifices that are necessary to bring the promise to fruition.

Lord help me to follow the commandments of the Lord so that my promises that are in the atmosphere waiting fulfillment, can come to pass.

  19. 7But he said unto me, Behold, thou shalt conceive, and bear a son; and now drink no wine nor strong drink, neither eat any unclean thing: for the child shall be a Nazarite to God from the womb to the day of his death.

In order to carry certain promises, God will call us to higher levels of separation. It may seem during the gestation like you are singled out, somehow held back from even seemingly simple things that everyone else is free to partake of. But it is not a matter of deprivation, rather of consecration. There is a promise that is maturing while yet unrevealed, and when full term comes and that baby is brought out into the world, suddenly the sorrow of pregnancy and delivery will give way to joy and the fruit will outshine the shadow of sacrifice.

  20. Jer. 1:5 Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.

Samson’s life had purpose before he was formed and before he took his first breath.

James 1:17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above…….

  21. Sometimes we can be deceived. The angel did not give them his name for obvious reasons, Idol worship. Attach a name to an idol and Walla! A false god. I grew up bowing to idols. St. Mary,Jude, Christopher, and Francis and the list goes on. A god for a particular need at the time. Lets keep our focus on Jesus Christ alone for He is all I need!
