1 Samuel 2

1And Hannah prayed, and said, My heart rejoiceth in the LORD, mine horn is exalted in the LORD: my mouth is enlarged over mine enemies; because I rejoice in thy salvation.

2There is none holy as the LORD: for there is none beside thee: neither is there any rock like our God.

3Talk no more so exceeding proudly; let not arrogancy come out of your mouth: for the LORD is a God of knowledge, and by him actions are weighed.

4The bows of the mighty men are broken, and they that stumbled are girded with strength.

5They that were full have hired out themselves for bread; and they that were hungry ceased: so that the barren hath born seven; and she that hath many children is waxed feeble.

6The LORD killeth, and maketh alive: he bringeth down to the grave, and bringeth up.

7The LORD maketh poor, and maketh rich: he bringeth low, and lifteth up.

8He raiseth up the poor out of the dust, and lifteth up the beggar from the dunghill, to set them among princes, and to make them inherit the throne of glory: for the pillars of the earth are the LORD’s, and he hath set the world upon them.

9He will keep the feet of his saints, and the wicked shall be silent in darkness; for by strength shall no man prevail.

10The adversaries of the LORD shall be broken to pieces; out of heaven shall he thunder upon them: the LORD shall judge the ends of the earth; and he shall give strength unto his king, and exalt the horn of his anointed.

11And Elkanah went to Ramah to his house. And the child did minister unto the LORD before Eli the priest.

12Now the sons of Eli were sons of Belial; they knew not the LORD.

13And the priest’s custom with the people was, that, when any man offered sacrifice, the priest’s servant came, while the flesh was in seething, with a fleshhook of three teeth in his hand;

14And he struck it into the pan, or kettle, or caldron, or pot; all that the fleshhook brought up the priest took for himself. So they did in Shiloh unto all the Israelites that came thither.

15Also before they burnt the fat, the priest’s servant came, and said to the man that sacrificed, Give flesh to roast for the priest; for he will not have sodden flesh of thee, but raw.

16And if any man said unto him, Let them not fail to burn the fat presently, and then take as much as thy soul desireth; then he would answer him, Nay; but thou shalt give it me now: and if not, I will take it by force.

17Wherefore the sin of the young men was very great before the LORD: for men abhorred the offering of the LORD.

18But Samuel ministered before the LORD, being a child, girded with a linen ephod.

19Moreover his mother made him a little coat, and brought it to him from year to year, when she came up with her husband to offer the yearly sacrifice.

20And Eli blessed Elkanah and his wife, and said, The LORD give thee seed of this woman for the loan which is lent to the LORD. And they went unto their own home.

21And the LORD visited Hannah, so that she conceived, and bare three sons and two daughters. And the child Samuel grew before the LORD.

22Now Eli was very old, and heard all that his sons did unto all Israel; and how they lay with the women that assembled at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation.

23And he said unto them, Why do ye such things? for I hear of your evil dealings by all this people.

24Nay, my sons; for it is no good report that I hear: ye make the LORD’s people to transgress.

25If one man sin against another, the judge shall judge him: but if a man sin against the LORD, who shall intreat for him? Notwithstanding they hearkened not unto the voice of their father, because the LORD would slay them.

26And the child Samuel grew on, and was in favour both with the LORD, and also with men.

27And there came a man of God unto Eli, and said unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Did I plainly appear unto the house of thy father, when they were in Egypt in Pharaoh’s house?

28And did I choose him out of all the tribes of Israel to be my priest, to offer upon mine altar, to burn incense, to wear an ephod before me? and did I give unto the house of thy father all the offerings made by fire of the children of Israel?

29Wherefore kick ye at my sacrifice and at mine offering, which I have commanded in my habitation; and honourest thy sons above me, to make yourselves fat with the chiefest of all the offerings of Israel my people?

30Wherefore the LORD God of Israel saith, I said indeed that thy house, and the house of thy father, should walk before me for ever: but now the LORD saith, Be it far from me; for them that honour me I will honour, and they that despise me shall be lightly esteemed.

31Behold, the days come, that I will cut off thine arm, and the arm of thy father’s house, that there shall not be an old man in thine house.

32And thou shalt see an enemy in my habitation, in all the wealth which God shall give Israel: and there shall not be an old man in thine house for ever.

33And the man of thine, whom I shall not cut off from mine altar, shall be to consume thine eyes, and to grieve thine heart: and all the increase of thine house shall die in the flower of their age.

34And this shall be a sign unto thee, that shall come upon thy two sons, on Hophni and Phinehas; in one day they shall die both of them.

35And I will raise me up a faithful priest, that shall do according to that which is in mine heart and in my mind: and I will build him a sure house; and he shall walk before mine anointed for ever.

36And it shall come to pass, that every one that is left in thine house shall come and crouch to him for a piece of silver and a morsel of bread, and shall say, Put me, I pray thee, into one of the priests’ offices, that I may eat a piece of bread.

  1. Get your house in order

And this shall be a sign unto thee, that shall come upon thy two sons, on Hophni and Phinehas; in one day they shall die both of them. And I will raise me up a faithful priest, that shall do according to that which is in mine heart and in my mind: and I will build him a sure house; and he shall walk before mine anointed for ever. And it shall come to pass, that every one that is left in thine house shall come and crouch to him for a piece of silver and a morsel of bread, and shall say, Put me, I pray thee, into one of the priests’ offices, that I may eat a piece of bread. (1 Samuel 2:34-36 KJV)

The Lord had enough of the wickness of the sons of Eli. Verse 12  states they were sons of Beliah- worthless, without servitude or obligation and without balance. They had an ” I don’t answer to anyone” attitude. It’s seems like Eli should have showed some “tough love” and remove them from their role for a season of repentance.

(For if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God?) (1 Timothy 3:5 KJV)

  2. In this scripture, what else is there to say. But, thank you Lord Jesus for with the New Covenant has better promises.

1And Hannah prayed, and said, My heart rejoiceth in the LORD, mine horn is exalted in the LORD: my mouth is enlarged over mine enemies; because I rejoice in thy salvation.

Let’s rejoice in his salvation…..plead the blood of Jesus….

Wow…we’re not poor anymore…Goshen…with princes and inherit what?

10The adversaries of the LORD shall be broken to pieces; out of heaven shall he thunder upon them: the LORD shall judge the ends of the earth; and he shall give strength unto his king, and exalt the horn of his anointed.

Another “Wow”….Aren’t we his annoited too?…..

35And I will raise me up a faithful priest, that shall do according to that which is in mine heart and in my mind: and I will build him a sure house; and he shall walk before mine anointed for ever.

  3. Here the Lord was fed up with the wickedness so he was going to rid hisself of them but still had someone to worship him and do right. God will always have someone or something to praise him. So I want to be the one to praise him and worship him and grow old in the Lord

  4. My Rock…

2There is none holy as the LORD: for there is none beside thee: neither is there any rock like our God.

3Talk no more so exceeding proudly; let not arrogancy come out of your mouth: for the LORD
is a God of knowledge, and by him actions are weighed.

    What a powerful prayer!

Hannah is a great example mothers everywhere. She set the tone for her sons life. In her faithfulness her son was also faithful. She was willing to sacrifice and listen for the voice of God, so her son did the same. Her child was away but never out of her heart, the bible says she made him a coat every year to take to him. What a wonderful mother.

  5. V.23-24 And he said unto them, why do ye such things? For I hear your evil doings by all this people. V.24 Nay, my sons; for it is no good report that I hear: ye make the LORD’S people to transgress. Prov 17:25 a foolish son is a grief to his father, and bitterness to her that bare him. Pro. 14:12 There is away that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death. Romans 6:23 The wages of sin is death. In life we choose to make choices, either they will please our Father or grieve Him. Lord have mercy!! I choose

  6. iEat the Word for Breakfast

Wow, this is a powerful chapter.

1And Hannah prayed, and said, My heart rejoiceth in the LORD, mine horn is exalted in the LORD: my mouth is enlarged over mine enemies; because I rejoice in thy salvation

This is not just a Prayer, but I believe the Spirit of Prophecy came on Hannah.

If you will notice, the prayer is almost identical to the prophecy from the man of God to Eli.

Out of the mouth of two or three witnesses let every word be established…

I’m pretty sure that when Hannah was prophesying she might have thought she was speaking about her adversary….BUT IT WAS GOD SPEAKING ABOUT ELI’S SONS…

  7. SEEK GOD FIRST

29 Wherefore kick ye at my sacrifice and at mine offering, which I have commanded in my habitation; and honourest thy sons above me, to make yourselves fat with the chiefest of all the offerings of Israel my people?
30 Wherefore the LORD God of Israel saith, I said indeed that thy house, and the house of thy father, should walk before me for ever: but now the LORD saith, Be it far from me; for them that honour me I will honour, and they that despise me shall be lightly esteemed.

I have held strong conviction in the area of allowing my own children to disrespect or disregard the House of GOD (which includes anything and everything in it or belonging to HIM). Eli had already heard what his children were doing wrong and did nothing about it.

Notice that GOD spoke these words through “a man of GOD” vs. 27. This is the test of whether or not we have a true man of GOD in our life. Can he tell us what the LORD has said? Can he tell us that we honor our own family above GOD.

***MINISTERS and FUTURE MINISTERS our children so not have free run of the Kingdom. God expects us and our children to be examples of GOD fearing, GOD respecting Children of GOD***

MSG vs 29-30 I put your ancestral family in charge of all the sacrificial offerings of Israel. So why do you now treat as mere loot these very sacrificial offerings that I commanded for my worship? Why do you treat your sons better than me, turning them loose to get fat on these offerings, and ignoring me? Therefore—this is God’s word, the God of Israel speaking—I once said that you and your ancestral family would be my priests indefinitely, but now—God’s word, remember!—there is no way this can continue.
    I honor those who honor me;
those who scorn me I demean.

31″Be well warned: It won’t be long before I wipe out both your family and your future family.

Matthew 6:33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

    “Those Dudes on TV”

Just this week my co-worker was telling me about how a televanglist had disappointed him in his youth. He was/is bitter of religious folks because of the hypocrisy.

    hy·poc·ri·sy
       [hi-pok-ruh-see] Show IPA

    noun, plural hy·poc·ri·sies.
    1.
a pretense of having a virtuous character, moral or religious beliefs or principles, etc., that one does not really possess.

    2.
a pretense of having some desirable or publicly approved attitude.

    3.
an act or instance of hypocrisy.

    ——————————————————————————–

    Origin:
1175–1225; Middle English ipocrisie < Old French < Late Latin hypocrisis < Greek hypókrisis play acting, equivalent to hypokrī́ ( nesthai ) to play a part, explain ( hypo- hypo- + krī́nein to distinguish, separate) + -sis -sis; h- (reintroduced in 16th century) < Latin and Greek

***Alot of these dudes on TV are getting FAT on the gospel while living without the standards in which they preach.

    BUT GOD

    Someone say "BUT GOD"

But God is raising up a SAMUEL

POFW is that prophesied man child in which the Lord will raise up to put those fat tv dudes to shame.

(AS I WROTE THAT I FELT SURGE OF THE HOLY GHOST)

    LIVE SAMUEL!!!

  10. Lok what God did for hannah because she kept her vow to God he gave her more children. God could have closed her womb up after samual bt he didnt. Hannah rejoices in the Lord. She is a great example of a Godly woman

  11. 1Sam.2:1 And Hannah prayed, and said,
My heart rejoiceth in the LORD, mine horn is exalted in the LORD: my mouth is enlarge over mine enemies; because I rejoice in thy salvation.

Once again we see the power of praise, thanksgiving, and gratitude .That will silence
    the enemy.
Praise The LORD! Nobody but JESUS
Knows our hearts. HE iS our faithful provider and will fill our emptiness, misery, and shame
    With life,joy and honor .
Always remember HIS Goodness and Kindness
    O LORD… What A Wonder You Are
    iPraise
    iRejoice
    iPray

  12. Position is not everything.

Eli’s sons were in ministering position in the temple. They were priest. They used that title to get the things they wanted from the people of israel who were coming to cleanse themselves. They did not have what is needed for ministry and therefore mocked what God put into place. Samuel however showed what they lacked at a young age. A heart of a servant. Let us not seek title or position but let us seek to serve the Lord with our whole heart and those around us. Samuel ministered before the Lord being yet a child. Train up a child in the way he should go and he shall not depart from it.

  13. 3. Talk no more so exceeding proudly; let not arrogancy come out of your mouth: for the LORD is a God of knowledge, and by him actions are weighed.

    Proverbs 16:18
Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.

Lord, iPray that I don’t talk proud or arrogant, and that I don’t let a haughty spirit or pride cause me to fall or be destroyed. In Jesus Name, Amen.

  14. 25If one man sin against another, the judge shall judge him: but if a man sin against the LORD, who shall intreat for him? Notwithstanding they hearkened not unto the voice of their father, because the LORD would slay them

Why didn’t the man of God stop at just telling his sons that they were wrong-(that was just a slap on the wrist) Why didn’t he put them out of the priesthood before God stepped in and corrected them? Scripture notes that the sons knew that the Lord would slay them! I can’t help but worry over children who are never truly made to mind. We reason with children (like Eli), but reasoning doesn’t get the matter solved. True discipline does. When I say true discipline, I don’t mean you have to beat a child-but “no” does have to mean “no” without the whining and screaming and crying when the child is young. Please figure it out before the screaming child becomes a screaming in your face teen!

  15. This chapter illustrates self-serving. Hophni and Phinehas became servants of self and not servants of God, therefore they lost all. We must be careful that we humble ourselves, and that we do not fall into the same self-serving mindset, for the Lord will repay. May the good Lord bless you all in Jesus name, Amen

  16. Beautiful prayer! A grateful heart and full of the Holy ghost!
She was in such recognition of the power of God, she spoke:
6 The Lord killeth, and maketh alive: he bringeth down to the grave, and bringeth up.
7 The Lord maketh poor, and maketh rich:
He bringeth low, and lifteth up.
Awesome prayer, of course after tremendous miracle!
This chapter it’s an advise to my life, God saw the pain of Hanna and answer her prayer . In other hand ,God saw the wicked children of Eli and send a message with bad news to Eli, we need to be sencitive to the voice of God!

  17. 1 Samuel 2:35 KJV

And I will raise me up a faithful priest, that shall do according to that which is in mine heart and in my mind: and I will build him a sure house; and he shall walk before mine anointed for ever.

If we don’t do what is right in the sight of God, He will raise someone up that will.

  18. 26And the child Samuel grew on, and was in favour both with the LORD, and also with men.

Samuel grew in favor with God and man.

A man’s gift maketh room for him, and bringeth him before great men. -Proverbs 18:16

When we are committed to the Lord and his kingdom as Samuel was there is no telling what the Lord will do in our lives and the lives of those we minister to.

  19. This chapter opens with praises being sung by Hannah to the Lord. How she trusted God and it is evident in the praises uttered out of her heart. She willingly offered her son back to the Lord, to live in the temple and only see him once a year at the time of sacrfice. In addition he was living in the temple where corruption abounded. Her confidence in the training that she put into Samuel as a child, and her hedge of protection covering him in spirit, proved well that she trusted the Lord and His faithfulness in keeping that which she had committed to Him.

  20. 27And there came a man of God unto Eli, and said unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Did I plainly appear unto the house of thy father, when they were in Egypt in Pharaoh’s house?

28And did I choose him out of all the tribes of Israel to be my priest, to offer upon mine altar, to burn incense, to wear an ephod before me? and did I give unto the house of thy father all the offerings made by fire of the children of Israel?

  21. Hophni and Phineas perverted and misused the altar. They corrupted the sacrifice and went through the motions. Soon they were in the belly of immorality.

This challenges me to remember to keep the altar sacred.

  22. iLove to Eat the Word For Supper

    umm umm Good!

19Moreover his mother made him a little coat, and brought it to him from year to year, when she came up with her husband to offer the yearly sacrifice.

The Books of Samuel have always been a favorite of mine. The following scripture has ALWAYS touched my heart…

19Moreover his mother made him a little coat, and brought it to him from year to year, when she came up with her husband to offer the yearly sacrifice.

    AWESOME unconditional love and sacrifice

  23. 9He will keep the feet of his saints, and the wicked shall be silent in darkness; for by strength shall no man prevail.

I will love thee, O Lord, my strength. The Lord is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower. I will call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised: so shall I be saved from mine enemies. The sorrows of death compassed me, and the floods of ungodly men made me afraid. The sorrows of hell compassed me about: the snares of death prevented me. In my distress I called upon the Lord, and cried unto my God: he heard my voice out of his temple, and my cry came before him, even into his ears. (Psalm 18:1-6 KJV)

Yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will joy in the God of my salvation. (Habakkuk 3:18 KJV)

Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. (Acts 4:12 KJV)

In times when we are weak, the enemy would accuse us and make us think we are all alone in this battle. In those times of desperation when our adversary is roaring, it is easy to fall into the trap of trying to rely on our own strength. Oh, it may not necessarily be because we think we are that strong, rather it may be because we’ve believed the lie that God won’t help us and we have no option but to do it alone. But our victory is only through God. Hannah put her trust in God, and so must we.

  24. Verse 35 I will raise me up faithful priest. God always has a plan! Even though eli had gone astray and let his sons desecrate the house of God samuel was being raised by God to be the replacement.God always a backup plan!

  25. Put me, I pray thee, into one of the priests’ offices, that I may eat a piece of bread. God will take care of his servants! The world knows that we are favored and God has his hand upon us. That is why it is so hard to reach some of them because they can respond one of two ways to the blessings of the Lord. One they can be like in this scripture and pray that they could be a part of his house or two they can be jealous and hate the one who is getting blessed. Our challenge is to turn those around that hate us.

I understand why so many christians name their children Samuel now.

  26. 1And Hannah prayed, and said, My heart rejoiceth in the LORD, mine horn is exalted in the LORD: my mouth is enlarged over mine enemies; because I rejoice in thy salvation

Hannah knew just what to do in order to get God’s attention. The word of God tells us to ask and we shall receive. Our blessing, miracle or healing is just a prayer away. Many times we think God is too far away to hear our prayers, when in fact he’s standing right beside you waiting on you to ask what you will. Our prayers can go alot further than we think, but first we have to open our mouth and say them before the Lord.

  27. 17Wherefore the sin of the young men was very great before the LORD: for men abhorred the offering of the LORD.

Such disreguard for God’s offering and His house is never a good thing. We should always come to the house of the Lord with reverance, and be glad and cautiously wise with the offerings thaat He intrusts us with

If we refuse to do as God has told us, He will find someone else who will do as they have been asked….

  28. I love Hannah’s prayer……verse 1 in the MSG begins with…”I’m bursting with God-news! I’m walking on air.” Oh, to be bursting with Jesus! Then part of verses 6-10 reads….”God brings poverty and God brings wealth; he lowers, he also lifts up. He puts poor people on their feet again; he rekindles burned-out lives with fresh hope, Restoring dignity and respect to their lives— a place in the sun! How can we not SHINE for the one who can do all things????? I want to shine for JESUS.

  29. 30Wherefore the LORD God of Israel saith, I said indeed that thy house, and the house of thy father, should walk before me for ever: but now the LORD saith, Be it far from me; for them that honour me I will honour, and they that despise me shall be lightly esteemed.

    Honor
    Heaviness. Glory.
Hebrew: A person who is honored is regarded as being weighty or as amounting to something.

If you put God in his right place with high esteeme and think of Him in everything that you do, He will make sure that you have honour like has been given to Him. (TV can’t do that, work can’t do that) If you tell Him that he does not matter then everything you do in this world will be seen as basically nothing. Living for God has more than one reward. In this scripture it tells us that God will either honour us or we will be lightly esteemed. I would rather choose the honour.
