1 Samuel 10

1Then Samuel took a vial of oil, and poured it upon his head, and kissed him, and said, Is it not because the LORD hath anointed thee to be captain over his inheritance?

2When thou art departed from me to day, then thou shalt find two men by Rachel’s sepulchre in the border of Benjamin at Zelzah; and they will say unto thee, The asses which thou wentest to seek are found: and, lo, thy father hath left the care of the asses, and sorroweth for you, saying, What shall I do for my son?

3Then shalt thou go on forward from thence, and thou shalt come to the plain of Tabor, and there shall meet thee three men going up to God to Bethel, one carrying three kids, and another carrying three loaves of bread, and another carrying a bottle of wine:

4And they will salute thee, and give thee two loaves of bread; which thou shalt receive of their hands.

5After that thou shalt come to the hill of God, where is the garrison of the Philistines: and it shall come to pass, when thou art come thither to the city, that thou shalt meet a company of prophets coming down from the high place with a psaltery, and a tabret, and a pipe, and a harp, before them; and they shall prophesy:

6And the Spirit of the LORD will come upon thee, and thou shalt prophesy with them, and shalt be turned into another man.

7And let it be, when these signs are come unto thee, that thou do as occasion serve thee; for God is with thee.

8And thou shalt go down before me to Gilgal; and, behold, I will come down unto thee, to offer burnt offerings, and to sacrifice sacrifices of peace offerings: seven days shalt thou tarry, till I come to thee, and shew thee what thou shalt do.

9And it was so, that when he had turned his back to go from Samuel, God gave him another heart: and all those signs came to pass that day.

10And when they came thither to the hill, behold, a company of prophets met him; and the Spirit of God came upon him, and he prophesied among them.

11And it came to pass, when all that knew him beforetime saw that, behold, he prophesied among the prophets, then the people said one to another, What is this that is come unto the son of Kish? Is Saul also among the prophets?

12And one of the same place answered and said, But who is their father? Therefore it became a proverb, Is Saul also among the prophets?

13And when he had made an end of prophesying, he came to the high place.

14And Saul’s uncle said unto him and to his servant, Whither went ye? And he said, To seek the asses: and when we saw that they were no where, we came to Samuel.

15And Saul’s uncle said, Tell me, I pray thee, what Samuel said unto you.

16And Saul said unto his uncle, He told us plainly that the asses were found. But of the matter of the kingdom, whereof Samuel spake, he told him not.

17And Samuel called the people together unto the LORD to Mizpeh;

18And said unto the children of Israel, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, I brought up Israel out of Egypt, and delivered you out of the hand of the Egyptians, and out of the hand of all kingdoms, and of them that oppressed you:

19And ye have this day rejected your God, who himself saved you out of all your adversities and your tribulations; and ye have said unto him, Nay, but set a king over us. Now therefore present yourselves before the LORD by your tribes, and by your thousands.

20And when Samuel had caused all the tribes of Israel to come near, the tribe of Benjamin was taken.

21When he had caused the tribe of Benjamin to come near by their families, the family of Matri was taken, and Saul the son of Kish was taken: and when they sought him, he could not be found.

22Therefore they enquired of the LORD further, if the man should yet come thither. And the LORD answered, Behold he hath hid himself among the stuff.

23And they ran and fetched him thence: and when he stood among the people, he was higher than any of the people from his shoulders and upward.

24And Samuel said to all the people, See ye him whom the LORD hath chosen, that there is none like him among all the people? And all the people shouted, and said, God save the king.

25Then Samuel told the people the manner of the kingdom, and wrote it in a book, and laid it up before the LORD. And Samuel sent all the people away, every man to his house.

26And Saul also went home to Gibeah; and there went with him a band of men, whose hearts God had touched.

27But the children of Belial said, How shall this man save us? And they despised him, and brought no presents. But he held his peace.

  1. 1Then Samuel took a vial of oil, and poured it upon his head, and kissed him, and said, Is it not because the LORD hath anointed thee to be captain over his inheritance

The man of God, the seer, Samuel, anointed Saul because he was called by God.
The oil over his head is often said to represent the Holy Spirit being poured out on people.
The kiss was a sign of respect and/or affection.
Then Samuel told Saul that God was the reason these things were done to him.

When he left he kept his anointing a secret from his father.

  2. v1 Then Samuel took a vail of oil, and poured it upon his head, and kissed him, and said, Is it not because the LORD hath anointed thee to be captain over his inheritance?
    Part 1
The oil- A symbol of the Holy Spirit.
It’s nothing to play with. Let there be a reverence .
When GOD’S Spirit moves there is a voice.
    As we see in Gen.1:2-3
“And the Spirit of GOD moved upon the face of the waters”
Then GOD said,Let there be light.”

The scripture is full of oil. According to the prophet Joel 1:10
“The oil languisheth – in other words HIS Presence is there but it’s sluggish (slow to move because of fear , doubt, unbielf)
GOD wants us to respond and flow with HIS Spirit. When GOD moves we have to move.
This morning GOD wants to impact lives, heal, save, deliver, bless, fill you with HIS Spirit
v6 ” And trun you into another man or woman.
    iMove
    iPray
    iRespond

  3. Vs 27/
Sometimes if not all the time we should hold our opinions to ourselves …like the Scripture says “hold your peace “.
I made a mistake the other day when I thought I was helping I wasn’t doing God’s will I was trying to do my own thing …someone very kind to me told me it’s not God’s will to do that. GODLY COUNSEL and I’m really sorry about not listening and hope they will forgive me for listening and not speaking -when I should be listening very closely. But the Lord is so kind to reveal this to me to understand what’s really going on with this Scripture. Thank you Jesus for correction with your Word.
I love yall and ilove church!

  4. Part 2
v10 Then Samuel took a vial of oil and poured it upon his head, and kissed him, and said,
Is it not because the LORD hath anointed thee to be captain over his inheritance?

In this chapter we see the importance of a Shepherp in our lives,as Samuel instructs Saul.
    I’m reminded of Psalm 23
Everybody needs a Shepherd a Pastor and
Everybody needs a home church . Where you put your love, loyalty, money, attendance and a Shepherd to watch for your soul.
It’s a sad thing to have to borrow a Pastor for your funeral and a church to have it in.
    The Psalmist said,”The LORD Is My Shepherd;
    I Shall Not Want” “. ”
Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of my enemies”
( Paraphraseing ) “My GOD they stand around wishing I would starve to death, but thank you JESUS…”You Still Feed Me” ” My Cup Runneth Over” GOD is not stingy. HE didn’t fill it just level full , HE just splashed it over the sides. GOD has plenty to waste.
“Thou Anointest My Head With Oil”
This morning LORD Oil that moves and is not sluggish. Fear, doubt ,and unbelief has to flee in JESUS Name!
HIS Spirit is going to be free to move
    Thank GOD for the oil.
    Have your way LORD.
Its great to trust the LORD.

  5. In this scripture, a lot of Great things happened, a new annoited King of Israel. In vs. 6, How can you be in the presents of God/Love, and not be forever changed. In vs. 9, And turned, turned to Jesus, God gave him another heart. More Jesus, and less of me, a new heart, not of stone, but a heart of flesh. In vs. 10, The Power of the Holy Spirit, working in us, can achieve so much more than we could ever imagine, and a whole lot quicker, than in our own strength. “Not by power nor might, but by my Spirit, sayeth the Lord.” Then we can be used by God, to prophesy, to heal, to preach, to save, to what ever God is doing, not us. So, God can and him only receive the Glory. “We can do all things through Christ, who gives me strength.” For without him, we can do nothing and, without him I am nothing. In vs. 18, see what Jesus Christ has done for us, from the Cross, to the Kingdom. Thank you Jesus, for tearing the vail, from top to bottom, that we can enter in, thanks for grafting us into the Kingdom of God, us “Gentiles”, but we are a new creation, born again. “No more oppression”, Liberty to the Captives. So, don’t let anyone hold you down, back, or away, be free in Jesus holy name. In vs. 26, Guess what, your not alone, and God will touch others hearts around you, how can we not share this Gospel, and it not touch someone. He came to seek what was lost, and to destroy the work of the devil. Remember, Jesus will leave the multitude to find the one who is lost, he will leave the 99. So, if you won’t go get them, “He Will”………

6And the Spirit of the LORD will come upon thee, and thou shalt prophesy with them, and shalt be turned into another man.

9And it was so, that when he had turned his back to go from Samuel, God gave him another heart: and all those signs came to pass that day.

10And when they came thither to the hill, behold, a company of prophets met him; and the Spirit of God came upon him, and he prophesied among them.

18And said unto the children of Israel, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, I brought up Israel out of Egypt, and delivered you out of the hand of the Egyptians, and out of the hand of all kingdoms, and of them that oppressed you:

  6. 1 Then Samuel took a vial of oil, and poured it upon his head, and kissed him, and said, Is it not because the LORD hath anointed thee to be captain over his inheritance?

From anointed to fallen??? God chooses to bless us from the start, He anoints us with the Holy Ghost to be captains of His inheritance. What a privilege God has given us. Now is up to us what are we going to do with it, Samuel began on the right foot but at the end he disobeyed God by not following His plan exactly how He said.
1 Sam 15:10 Then came the word of the LORD unto Samuel, saying,
11 It repenteth me that I have set up Saul to be king: for he is turned back from following me, and hath not performed my commandments. And it grieved Samuel; and he cried unto the LORD all night.

As human beings we always try to have a control that does not belong to us, or by thinking that it will be a lot easier our way, but we fall by not doing it exactly as instructed by God. Don’t we recognize that He is all powerful, all knowledgeable, completely Wise that we need to put our 2 cents in. Well, those 2 cents might cost you your captain-ship over His inheritance and the lost of the kingdom.

  7. V9 And it was so that when he had turned his back to go from Samuel, God gave him another heart: and all those signs came to pass that day.

A touch from God gives us a new heart and a new focus.

  8. DONT DRINK THE HATERAIDE

27 But the children of Belial said, How shall this man save us? And they despised him, and brought no presents. But he held his peace.

There will always be “HATERS” those negative, unbelieving, fault finding, lets wait and see kind of people. Regardless of how strong the fire of GOD is; there will always be an element of people that doubt.

However for all the doubters; I do not believe this to be coincidence, but the true voice GOD for me today.

    The “despisers” were from:
    Belial – Hebrew word #1100
    1) worthlessness
    a) worthless, good for nothing, unprofitable, base fellow
    b) wicked
    c) ruin, destruction (construct)

When someone hates on your calling, dream or commitment to GOD just remember where they are from “worthlessness”.

Most people miss what happens in obscurity that becomes a reality in open.

6 And the Spirit of the LORD will come upon thee, and thou shalt prophesy with them, and shalt be turned into another man.

    The Conversion FACTOR

10 And when they came thither to the hill, behold, a company of prophets met him; and the Spirit of God came upon him, and he prophesied among them.
11 And it came to pass, when all that knew him beforetime saw that, behold, he prophesied among the prophets, then the people said one to another, What is this that is come unto the son of Kish? Is Saul also among the prophets?

    HOLY GHOST AND POWER

(1 Samuel 10:6) And the Spirit of the LORD will come upon thee, and thou shalt prophesy with them, and shalt be turned into another man.

(1 Samuel 10:7) And let it be, when these signs are come unto thee, that thou do as occasion serve thee; for God is with thee.

*******There were signs when someone received the Holy Ghost in the Old Testament…They prophesied..

    sign-H226
    אות
    ‘ôth
    oth
Probably from H225 (in the sense of appearing); a signal (literally or figuratively), as a flag, beacon, monument, omen, prodigy, evidence, etc.: – mark, miracle, (en-) sign, token.

more to come on this subject…

      The Holy Ghost and Fire

6And the Spirit of the LORD will come upon thee, and thou shalt prophesy with them, and shalt be turned into another man.

7And let it be, when these signs are come unto thee, that thou do as occasion serve thee; for God is with thee.

There has always been and will always be a sign when someone receives the Holy Ghost.

In the OLD TESTAMENT the Spirit would come upon someone and they would prophesy.

(Numbers 11:16) And the LORD said unto Moses, Gather unto me seventy men of the elders of Israel, whom thou knowest to be the elders of the people, and officers over them; and bring them unto the tabernacle of the congregation, that they may stand there with thee.

(Numbers 11:17) And I will come down and talk with thee there: and I will take of the spirit which is upon thee, and will put it upon them; and they shall bear the burden of the people with thee, that thou bear it not thyself alone.

(Numbers 11:25) And the LORD came down in a cloud, and spake unto him, and took of the spirit that was upon him, and gave it unto the seventy elders: and it came to pass, that, when the spirit rested upon them, they prophesied, and did not cease.

The Spirit of the Lord only came on a selected few in the Old Testament…Kings, Priests, and Prophets. The amazing thing about it is the prophet Joel boldly proclaimed that God would be pouring out His Spirit upon ALL FLESH…This would be something NEW

(Joel 2:28) And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions:

(Joel 2:29) And also upon the servants and upon the handmaids in those days will I pour out my spirit.

  10. 18And said unto the children of Israel, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, I brought up Israel out of Egypt, and delivered you out of the hand of the Egyptians, and out of the hand of all kingdoms, and of them that oppressed you: 19And ye have this day rejected your God, who himself saved you out of all your adversities and your tribulations; and ye have said unto him, Nay, but set a king over us. Now therefore present yourselves before the LORD by your tribes, and by your thousands.

If we pray for something in our lives to change , and it is not in the God’s will for us to have it. He will sometimes give it to us. As we see here in these past few chapters. The Isreal wanted a king to rule over them, and not a man of God. Well they are about to get there wish, and God will allow it to happen.

  11. What a humble start Saul has. Even after Saul explains God’s will for his life, he still has to be called out by lots and then found where he was hiding. After God changing his heart and making him a different person for the position of a ruler, he should have realized that he needed total dependance upon God to actually BE King – knowing he came from the least of tribes. He knew that because of this he would be the least qualified for such a position. There was no King for anyone to have learned from, and like Saul, we too much totally depend on God to accomplish our roles… whether or not we have an example to follow. He have the man of God to lead us and speak to us to keep us on track!

  12. v22 ” And the LORD answered, Behold, he hath hid himself among stuff.

Saul was hiding in his own strength, abilities .
We are not smart enough to hide in our own stuff; but we can trust and depend upon our
    GREAT GOD!

  13. GIBEAH OF GOD
The Philistine outpost here just three miles north and east of Jerusalem shows how deeply the Philistines had penetrated into Israel despite defeats during Samuels rule.

  14. When we turn to God He will give us another heart as long as we are willing to change. God showed up and showed out today in both services. I must admit I had to repent because I havent done all that I know to do for the kingdom. When God spoke this morning I knew He was talking to me. I eat His food and live in His house but what am I suppose to be doing. God put people in my life nt just to give them a place to lay thier head bt most of all to share the word and I made a vow to do that and to cme to prayer no matter how much I want to stay hme and rest. All that I am or will ever be is because of God. I will be the woman of Gid that He wants me to be. Thank you Jesus for revelation today and for firegiving me……

  15. 1 Samuel 10:19
And ye have this day rejected your God, who himself saved you out of all your adversities and your tribulations; and ye have said unto him, Nay, but set a king over us. Now therefore present yourselves before the Lord by your tribes, and by your thousands.

After a process of elimination, Saul was chosen to be King.

He was chosen to lead, but it was not God’s will for them to have a king.

God even told them what the man who would be king would act like a few chapters back.

Sadly, despite the pomp of election God reluctantly placed Saul, knowing what would happen. Around this same time a young boy was learning how to tend to the sheep.

  16. Vs 9 And it was so, that when he had turned his back to go from Samuel, God gave him another heart: and all those signs came to pass that day.

    Eze 36:26-27
26A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. 27And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them.

My prayer Psa 51:10 Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.

  17. iLove to eat the Word for supper

    Thanks for Touching Hearts Lord

26And Saul also went home to Gibeah; and there went with him a band of men, whose hearts God had touched.

HAD A GREAT SERVICE TONIGHT LORD, THANKS FOR TOUCHING MEN AND WOMENS HEARTS.

  18. 22Therefore they enquired of the LORD further, if the man should yet come thither. And the LORD answered, Behold he hath hid himself among the stuff.

many times we hide among the stuff going on around us to hide from God and all he is trying to do with and though us. We often over look the lost souls all around us day in and day out, hidden amongst the stuff of life waiting on someone to show them the love of Christ and to lead them to a life filled with His spirit…

  19. 26And Saul also went home to Gibeah; and there went with him a band of men, whose hearts God had touched.

Lord raise up men & women who have hearts that have been touched by God.

  20. Verses 9-11 in the NLT read….”As Saul turned and started to leave, God gave him a new heart, and all Samuel’s signs were fulfilled that day. When Saul and his servant arrived at Gibeah, they saw a group of prophets coming toward them. Then the Spirit of God came powerfully upon Saul, and he, too, began to prophesy. When those who knew Saul heard about it, they exclaimed, “What? Is even Saul a prophet? How did the son of Kish become a prophet?” Only the Lord can do that….make and/or give a person a new heart! Thank you Jesus.

  21. 9And it was so, that when he had turned his back to go from Samuel, God gave him another heart: and all those signs came to pass that day.

22Therefore they enquired of the LORD further, if the man should yet come thither. And the LORD answered, Behold he hath hid himself among the stuff.

Sometimes God alreadys delivers us/gives us a miracle/changes us but it takes us a while to get with it. Saul was already changed from when he went forth in obedience, yet when the time came for him to come out of obscurity and into the next step in God’s will, he hid himself. Found among the stuff, walled up and hidden by the things of life. We can hope and pray and long for destiny, yet turn tail and run for fear when it comes knocking at our door.

The wicked flee when no man pursueth: but the righteous are bold as a lion. (Proverbs 28:1 KJV)

There be three things which go well, yea, four are comely in going: A lion which is strongest among beasts, and turneth not away for any;… (Proverbs 30:29, 30 KJV)

For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. (2 Timothy 1:7 KJV)

As Christians, our Heavenly Father is the Lion of the tribe of Judah and we should have that same holy boldness and confidence that He has. It can be easy when our faith gets stretched to default to our old nature but we are called to be changed and transformed by Him, to be a new creature, so we can step out on faith when the time comes.

And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. (Romans 12:2 KJV)

  22. 6And the Spirit of the LORD will come upon thee, and thou shalt prophesy with them, and shalt be turned into another man.

22Therefore they enquired of the LORD further, if the man should yet come thither. And the LORD answered, Behold he hath hid himself among the stuff.

God changed Him into “another man” yet when called upon He hid himself among the stuff. He is looking for us to be transformed and step out into the light. If a caterpillar transforms into a beautiful butterfly and hide in a tree never to be seen, we would never experience it’s beauty. The beauty of watching our children chase after them to catch them, or experience the calm feeling you get when one lands on your arm.

The same in the spirit if when God transforms us if we hide ourselves their will be lives that will not experience the beauty the Holy Ghost gives to us. Then the little lives that are all around us that chase after who we are will not chase after the man or women of God we’ve become because we’ve hidden it and lives will not be touched by our ministry. For we are all ministers of Christ and if we do not use those gifts they will be taken for us.

  23. Every time God calls someone to do His work there is always a group that rejects him. But God will be victorious despite the children of belial.

  24. verse 22 he was hid amoun the stuff… Saul had a humble meek spirit when he was annointed to be king. So humble in fact that he had to be fetched to stand before Gods people. Our spirit should be the same that no how high we get in God and what he allows us to do we will always have a humble spirit.

  25. This chapter illustrates appointed. “But the children of Belial said, How shall this man save us? And they despised him, and brought no presents. But he held his peace.” We should be thankful and rejoice when we are chosen by God to speak to someone, pray with someone, witness to someone, etc. and we definitely should not be jealous and/or envious if someone else is used and/or chosen of God. May the good Lord bless you all in Jesus name, Amen
