Read Proverbs Chapter 25
2 Samuel 12
1 And the Lord sent Nathan unto David. And he came unto him, and said unto him, There were two men in one city; the one rich, and the other poor.
2 The rich man had exceeding many flocks and herds:
3 But the poor man had nothing, save one little ewe lamb, which he had bought and nourished up: and it grew up together with him, and with his children; it did eat of his own meat, and drank of his own cup, and lay in his bosom, and was unto him as a daughter.
4 And there came a traveller unto the rich man, and he spared to take of his own flock and of his own herd, to dress for the wayfaring man that was come unto him; but took the poor man’s lamb, and dressed it for the man that was come to him.
5 And David’s anger was greatly kindled against the man; and he said to Nathan, As the Lord liveth, the man that hath done this thing shall surely die:
6 And he shall restore the lamb fourfold, because he did this thing, and because he had no pity.
7 And Nathan said to David, Thou art the man. Thus saith the Lord God of Israel, I anointed thee king over Israel, and I delivered thee out of the hand of Saul;
8 And I gave thee thy master’s house, and thy master’s wives into thy bosom, and gave thee the house of Israel and of Judah; and if that had been too little, I would moreover have given unto thee such and such things.
9 Wherefore hast thou despised the commandment of theLord, to do evil in his sight? thou hast killed Uriah the Hittite with the sword, and hast taken his wife to be thy wife, and hast slain him with the sword of the children of Ammon.
10 Now therefore the sword shall never depart from thine house; because thou hast despised me, and hast taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be thy wife.
11 Thus saith the Lord, Behold, I will raise up evil against thee out of thine own house, and I will take thy wives before thine eyes, and give them unto thy neighbour, and he shall lie with thy wives in the sight of this sun.
12 For thou didst it secretly: but I will do this thing before all Israel, and before the sun.
13 And David said unto Nathan, I have sinned against theLord. And Nathan said unto David, The Lord also hath put away thy sin; thou shalt not die.
14 Howbeit, because by this deed thou hast given great occasion to the enemies of the Lord to blaspheme, the child also that is born unto thee shall surely die.
15 And Nathan departed unto his house. And the Lord struck the child that Uriah’s wife bare unto David, and it was very sick.
16 David therefore besought God for the child; and David fasted, and went in, and lay all night upon the earth.
17 And the elders of his house arose, and went to him, to raise him up from the earth: but he would not, neither did he eat bread with them.
18 And it came to pass on the seventh day, that the child died. And the servants of David feared to tell him that the child was dead: for they said, Behold, while the child was yet alive, we spake unto him, and he would not hearken unto our voice: how will he then vex himself, if we tell him that the child is dead?
19 But when David saw that his servants whispered, David perceived that the child was dead: therefore David said unto his servants, Is the child dead? And they said, He is dead.
20 Then David arose from the earth, and washed, and anointed himself, and changed his apparel, and came into the house of the Lord, and worshipped: then he came to his own house; and when he required, they set bread before him, and he did eat.
21 Then said his servants unto him, What thing is this that thou hast done? thou didst fast and weep for the child, while it was alive; but when the child was dead, thou didst rise and eat bread.
22 And he said, While the child was yet alive, I fasted and wept: for I said, Who can tell whether God will be gracious to me, that the child may live?
23 But now he is dead, wherefore should I fast? can I bring him back again? I shall go to him, but he shall not return to me.
24 And David comforted Bathsheba his wife, and went in unto her, and lay with her: and she bare a son, and he called his name Solomon: and the Lord loved him.
25 And he sent by the hand of Nathan the prophet; and he called his name Jedidiah, because of the Lord.
26 And Joab fought against Rabbah of the children of Ammon, and took the royal city.
27 And Joab sent messengers to David, and said, I have fought against Rabbah, and have taken the city of waters.
28 Now therefore gather the rest of the people together, and encamp against the city, and take it: lest I take the city, and it be called after my name.
29 And David gathered all the people together, and went to Rabbah, and fought against it, and took it.
30 And he took their king’s crown from off his head, the weight whereof was a talent of gold with the precious stones: and it was set on David’s head. And he brought forth the spoil of the city in great abundance.
31 And he brought forth the people that were therein, and put them under saws, and under harrows of iron, and under axes of iron, and made them pass through the brick-kiln: and thus did he unto all the cities of the children of Ammon. So David and all the people returned unto Jerusalem.
The POFW Daily Bible Reading 
David thinks he has a secret. Yet how will he keep it when all of heaven knows? The prophet Nathan confronts David and proclaims the Lord’s judgment. The tables turn, and God promises that David will now experience the same pain he has caused others, like the death of the 1st born between him and Bathsheba. The judgment that Nathan describes is fulfilled in 2 Sam 16:22. Someone close to David -his own son- sleeps with David’s concubines. David’s sin is done in secret and is diligently concealed. But the punishment is fulfilled on the roof of the palace “in the sight of all Israel”. Solomon who is 2nd born of them writes, “For God will bring every deed to judgment, including every hidden thing, whether it is good or evil (Ecc 12:14). Perhaps Solomon’s words come from seeing this truth play out in his own father’s household. The names given to him indicate that both God and his parents love him. The past is redeemed, and this new child is a reason for rejoicing. David and Bathsheba named him Solomon, which is the Hebrew word meaning “peace”. God calls him Jedidiah, which means “loved by the Lord”. Both names are fulfilled as he grows. Solomon/Jedidiah becomes the peaceful builder of the Lord’s temple and the 1st king of Israel to trade commercial goods “very” profitably with other nations.God Loves Solomon and blesses him by making him the wisest, richest and most honored king of his day and perhaps all time. (1ki 3:10-14).
God punishes us for our wickedness, setting our situation ablaze til we learn our lesson, then their will be space for God to pour out a blessing in our lives. Similarly Adam and Eve lst their son Abel, due of course to different circumstances, but once Cain was cast out, God gave them a new godly son…Seth. God destroys but then repairs. Their is absolutely no sin to big or small that cam seperate us from God’s love or punishment because if we are covered by the blood of Jesus, then we are redeemed when we repent.
Ro 8:32He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things? 33Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God’s elect? It is God that justifieth. 34Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us. 35Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?
36As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. 37Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. 38For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, 39Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

David’s blessing was taken away his son but the Lord blessed him with an even better blessing with wearing a crown upon his head with gold and stones on it ……
Sometimes the Lord blesses us with a blessimg but when we do wrong He can take away that blessing but when the Lord sees us trying to do right and do the right things of God and we are truely trying He will bless us with a blessing that we can’t contain…..beyond belief!

Blessed is he when the Lord blesses you with a child (Solomon )
No matter how much we try to hide our sin; or how well we may hide it from others: 1. God knows and 2. Your sin will find you out!
However, if we are truly repentant, God is faithful to forgive our sin.
True Repentance = The Return to God & His Blessings
I thank God for a man of God that will tell it like it is. That is so bold that will prick our hearts into repentance no matter how long ago was the sin. Nathan did not hesitate in going to the presence of the king and tell him the truth of his actions. As always the result of sin is DEATH in this case the DEATH of an innocent child conceived in sin.
Repentance = David’s true repentance bring him back to God’s will; showing us that God is forever merciful, & His grace endureth for ever. Not only did God allow David to come back into His will and do His work, taking the city; but He Blessed him with a child Solomon which it says God Loved.
Yesterday’s Proverbs 24:16 For a just man falleth seven times, and riseth up again: but the wicked shall fall into mischief.
The reason why the wicked falls into mischief is because of pride. They do not want to hear the voice of the man of God, they do not accept the will of God, they do not REPENT.
I would like to say first how much we appreciate the POFW and our great pastor and his wife. David was a man after God`s own heart but made a BAD DECISION. The good part about David was when confronted by the Man of God he was willing to admit I made a mistake and am willing to make it right no matter what the cost.
Many people never admit I messed up, and I need to repent. We need to allow God to speak to us in every situation and deliver us from ourselves and our lust. I am so thankful we have a mediator in Jesus Christ, which is just and will forgive us our sins even when we do not desrve it. Remember David should have been at battle but was being slack with his job and letting someone else do his work.
We will always get in trouble when we are being slothful, lazy, and not busy with God`s work. We should be looking for SOMETHING TO DO not trying to get away from God`s business. I bid everyone of you God`s speed in doing his work.

David was surly a man after Gods oun heart but he was still a man born into sin but when he realized he had sinned he repented took the punishment and gave thank to GOD . that is the KEY TO MOST LESSONS is to give thanks in all things know matter what
We can be confident that children who die before they reach the age of accountability go to heaven because Jesus said, ” Of such is the kingdom of heaven ” Matt. 19:14
During this incident, David wrote Psalm 51, giving valuable insight into his character and offering hope for us as well. David did not continue to dwell on his sin. No matter how miserable guilt makes us feel or how terribly we have sinned, we can pour out our heart to God and seek his forgiveness as David did. David also wrote Psalm 32 to express the joy he felt after he was forgiven.

Bathsheba went through a lot of pain…the word says that she mourned for her husband, and now this…after 9 months of carrying a baby she has to watch the baby die in her arms…
Maybe she could have avoided some of this pain had she run away when David called for her. Or, maybe she didnt know why David called for her, but when she realized he wanted her for his own pleasure she could have resisted…Or maybe she could have had Jessie the builder to build her a bathroom inside the house…
Ladies, what could you do to avoid a lot of unnessary pain?
(1 Timothy 2:9) In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array;

Build a bathroom in her house. That is good. In Crete, many houses still to this day have showers outside. Why, I do not know. But they do.
also the showers are not where you can see into them from the street. Only from higher ground or from the roof top could you see inside them. So he was looking to see what he could see.
THE MERCY OF REVELATION AND HONESTY
5 And David’s anger was greatly kindled against the man; and he said to Nathan, As the Lord liveth, the man that hath done this thing shall surely die:
David is an example to us in many ways of life, we have read of his terrified state, his triumphant state and now his sinful state. We would be wise to gain insight in this chapter of how to fail GOD:
1. David did not run from the man of GOD. Most people when sin ins in their life, attempt everything in their power to avoid the preacher. David came face to face with Nathan and thereby made himself available for redemption.
2. David prescribed his own death; through the parable that Nathan told. This is where revelation comes in: Natan declared to David you are that man. Now what? The King must die!
3. David delivered himself from death with confession (honesty) and repentance. 13 And David said unto Nathan, I have sinned against the Lord. And Nathan said unto David, The Lord also hath put away thy sin; thou shalt not die. Any other response would have doomed David to the death he prescribed. Consider the children of Israel coming out of Egypt.
4. David paid the price for his sin. Sin is costly, the price or wages is death. Though David did not die, his seed died.
***HEAR THIS***
IF WE DO NOT PAY THE PRICE OF OUR SIN, THEN OUR CHILDREN WILL BE LEFT WITH THE BILL TO PAY.
Cofess and repent today. Allow GOD to spek to you through HIS servants.

Guilty!
Sometimes it takes a man of God to wisely tell us how wrong we are. The problem is that so many take offense instead of correcting the problem.
Let’s be wise when we’ve done wrong except the correction, repent, and move forward.
RECOVERING FROM A LOSS
20 Then David arose from the earth, and washed, and anointed himself, and changed his apparel, and came into the house of the Lord, and worshipped: then he came to his own house; and when he required, they set bread before him, and he did eat.
For 7 days David mourned his sin and the judgement of the sin, however after the judgement was finished and it was over.
David, “came into the house of the Lord, and worshipped:”
This should be our response in overcoming a loss, deal with it and then go WORSHIP.

He turns my sorrow into joy. Psalm 30:5 For his anger endureth but a moment; in his favour is life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.
THE BATTLE GOES ON
26 And Joab fought against Rabbah of the children of Ammon, and took the royal city.
27 And Joab sent messengers to David, and said, I have fought against Rabbah, and have taken the city of waters.
With all of this mess in the Leadership of Israel, God’s business and Kingdom work continue. Joab was engaged in a fierce battle and I believe David’s response even affected the battle at Rabbah.
A correct response from Leadership will create the opportunity for Victory.

Godly Counsel (Before & After)
Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper. (Psalm 1:1-3 KJV)
I believe we can look at this passage as “blessed is he who walks in godly counsel” and “not-blessed in he who walks in the counsel of the ungodly.” If we find ourselves unhappy (unblessed) with the counsel of God and the godly, that should indicate to us that we probably aren’t walking in it and are already in trouble. David refused to do anything about this until his guilt was exposed again. The first time his guilt was exposed was last chapter:
And it came to pass in an eveningtide, that David arose from off his bed, and walked upon the roof of the king’s house: and from the roof he saw a woman washing herself; and the woman was very beautiful to look upon. And David sent and enquired after the woman. And one said, Is not this Bath–sheba, the daughter of Eliam, the wife of Uriah the Hittite? (2 Samuel 11:2, 3 KJV)
He was warned ahead of time “this isn’t good, this is a married woman…” He had his chance to get out before anything huge was done, but responded “yeah, whatever.” It wasn’t until later when the sin and consequences (including a baby) were “real” that he finally repented when confronted. We don’t have to wait until the drought comes and our life begins to whither to turn and get planted in godly counsel. We are wise to recognize and heed the voice of Love *before* we respond to the voice of lust.
But, beloved, remember ye the words which were spoken before of the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ; How that they told you there should be mockers in the last time, who should walk after their own ungodly lusts. (Jude 1:17, 18 KJV)
After repentance:

A bad decision not only affects our family, and those around us; it also affects God.
As his children people look to us to behave exactly how he would. If we are not careful we can cause others to believe something about God that is not true.
Ezekiel 22:26
Her priests have violated my law, and have profaned mine holy things: they have put no difference between the holy and profane, neither have they shewed difference between the unclean and the clean, and have hid their eyes from my sabbaths, and I am profaned among them.
There are so many things one could comment on in this chapter today but the thing that sticks out in my mind is Numbers 32:23 ” But if ye will not do so, behold, ye have sinned against the LORD: and be sure your sin will find you out.”
Those things done in secret will be revealed through the man of God or by other means. People think they are getting by with sins that are being hidden, but God has a way of bringing them to light.
In this chapter we see that David sinned, repented, he fasted and prayed, and then at the death of his son, he worshipped. He didn’t allow self condenmation to over take him and he didn’t wallow in his sin. Many people that sin, wallow in it and never get back up because they let self condemnation rule in their life.
It’s not okay to sin, but if we are overtaken in temptation, we have an advocate with God, get up and get back in the battle, victory can be ours.
well said.. Too many fall then get lost in guilt and keep sinker deeper until they have closed their eyes, ears, heart and soul ..they become deaf and blind to the word of God. They don’t hear the weeping of God. They don’t feel Gods arms around them trying to pick them up. They forget that he loves us and wants us to repent and turn back to him. I pray for those.. To have their senses opened once again. Return to the place God has for them. I pray that none of us become so deafened. For if one so loved by God could fall so are we all capable. I pray that we be ever watchful and guard our hearts and minds against this. To stay the course. And if we slip.. Reach out to God immediately.

Notice how quick he was to anger over injustice
to an innocent man and wanted to punish the wicked and restore to the innocent what was taken
without realizing he was the one that was in reference.
Matthew7:4 How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye?
David was so quick to respond to the story that Nathan told him about the rich man and the poor man. Verses 5-6 in the CEV….”David was furious with the rich man and said to Nathan, “I swear by the living Lord that the man who did this deserves to die! 6 And because he didn’t have any pity on the poor man, he will have to pay four times what the lamb was worth.”
We must not be so quick to judge…..for like David, little did he know when Nathan told him…..it is you! He did not die; but, his newborn son did.
you reep what you sow. Because David killed Uriah and took his wife, the there first baby died because of that sin.

Who was this Bathsheba?

Bathsheba was a daughter of Eliam, one of David’s “thirty” (2 Sam. 23:34; cf 1 Chr. 3:5); Eliam was the son of Ahitophel, one of David’s chief advisors. Ahitophel was from Giloh (Josh. 15:51;cf 2 Sam. 15:12), a city of Judah, and thus Bathsheba was from David’s own tribe and the granddaughter of one of David’s closest advisors (2 Sam.15:12).”[1] She was the mother of Solomon, who succeeded David as king, making her the Queen Mother.
In further study, you see that David became like Saul. David was a faithful servent and would not harm his king yet Saul sought Davids life. In turn Uriah was the faithful servent of his king wishing no harm. A man of honor. David betrayed and sought out his life. Bewary of becoming what you try to overcome. Stand firm on the rock!
7 And Nathan said to David, Thou art the man. . . .
It is so easy for us to find fault in others. When we commit the same sin we don’t see it.
In the world of early childhood education we teach social skills often. Most of the time when they are taught it is through a story or acting it out. If Sally is the one giving trouble you NEVER say, “Sally did this, how do we fix it?” you say something like “I was playing and one of my friends,——-, and they hit me. How would I tell my friend that they hurt me without hitting them back?” then the child is able to tell about how to help fix what was wrong. Then sometimes the child even tells what punishment they think should happen. (not that you have to use their punishment, but sometimes they come up with good ones)
That is the same thing that Nathan did with David. There was a man. . . what should happen to him? Like the small children that are having trouble, David was able to identify the problem. David was even able to predict his own punishment. David said the man should die and Nathan told him, “10 Now therefore the sword shall never depart from thine house; …”. David was right.
Trying to hide our sin from God will only make God angry with us, he sees everything that we do others my may not see but God does.
Leading from Second
26 And Joab fought against Rabbah of the children of Ammon, and took the royal city.
27 And Joab sent messengers to David, and said, I have fought against Rabbah, and have taken the city of waters.
28 Now therefore gather the rest of the people together, and encamp against the city, and take it: lest I take the city, and it be called after my name.
Joab is a great example of leading from second place. He never sought glory for himself, he worked to accomplish David’s mission. What Joab wanted was secondary what david needed was the goal. Joseph is another great example in the Bible of accomplishing Gods will by serving his leader. Pharaoh put him second in command of Egypt but he did not complain, ” why can’t I drive” instead he was blessed in leadership, through serving
15. And Nathan departed unto his house. And the Lord struck the child that Uriah’s wife bare unto David, and it was very sick.
24 And David comforted Bathsheba his wife, and went in unto her, and lay with her: and she bare a son, and he called his name Solomon: and the Lord loved him.
I notice that in verse 15, she is called Uriah’s wife (possibly because she was still married to Uriah when the child was conceived?) but after the child dies and David has repented, she is called David’s wife.
After our sins have died and we have repented, then God can bless us as he blessed David with Solomon.

David did not take into account that his sin would cause so much pain in so many lives. Sin will always separates.
True repentance will bring about God’s grace and mercy. Even though we all remember the tragedy of our sin, if we truly repent we can see great victory again.

Its amazing to me how mercyful God is and has always been to David. Im thankfull for the oppertunity to blog and read these chapeters everyday because it gives me insight to things in the word of God that I never realized before. I have read these stories for years but Its like things just come to light all over again everytime I read these chapters!! God Said I would have given you such and such things… He was ready to give David anything he desired if he just served him. To bad David made a bad mistake.
This chapter illustrates honor. David’s sins found him out; “And the Lord sent Nathan unto David.” Every one of us has sinned and unfortunately will do so again. We should therefore do the honorable thing and repent, and make it right with God (Jesus) and whomever else once we realize it. For it would be easier for everyone if we simply took the initiative and corrected the wrong, before the Lord had to also send the man of God unto us. Was reading a book by Charles Swindol called “David” and he says that David was around 50 years old when he got with Bathsheba.
That’s sad that David’s whole reign was marred towards the end of his kingdom .
David knew he had done wrong and he admitted it but he kept on laying with the curse. If you realize what is cursing you why not take it to the alter and let it die. if you repent of your sin and get up from the alter and do the same thing over and Over again you have not truly repented. 180 repentance is never looking back at the past or who you used to be. Let us all forgive, be forgiven, do a 180 and never turn back.
8 And I gave thee thy master’s house, and thy master’s wives into thy bosom, and gave thee the house of Israel and of Judah; and if that had been too little, I would moreover have given unto thee such and such things. The Lord had given David all that was needed for his life, was that not enough for him? David forgot the word of God that was in him. Deuteronomy 5:21 he had need of nothing outside of his house. He had it all, But most of all he had The good Lord, he had found favor in His sight, to displease Him for a moment to fulfill his lustful desire. Keeping my eyes on the Lord, and not the worldly things!!!
What is done in secret will come to light. Nothing can be hidden from God.
21 Then said his servants unto him, What thing is this that thou hast done? thou didst fast and weep for the child, while it was alive; but when the child was dead, thou didst rise and eat bread.
Many time when people are not in church, they don’t understand why we do what we do. The lost doesn’t understand prayer. they don’t understand fasting. They don’t even understand our worship. It is up to us as the church of the only true God to reach the lost and let them know how good He truly is…
With the wisdom of God, Nathan tells David a “parable” so that he can receive the truth and accept/ackowledge that he has sinned. Had Nathan come another way, David’s guilt could have caused him to be defensive and rejected his correction. Thank God for his understanding and forgiveness which allows us the space of time we need to repent for our sins. It truly is the goodness of God that causes us to repent!
David could not continue to try to run from his sins. Like all others, he was not exception to rules reaping what you sow. It’s important to follow the plan that God has set up. Everytime we try to edit God’s plan, things always go wrong.
It took Nathan to get through David’s seared hardened heart!
v7″ Thou art the man”
We all need a Nathan in our lives.
“There is none that does good, no
not one” Ps.14:3
