1 Kings 5

1 And Hiram king of Tyre sent his servants unto Solomon; for he had heard that they had anointed him king in the room of his father: for Hiram was ever a lover of David.

And Solomon sent to Hiram, saying,

Thou knowest how that David my father could not build an house unto the name of the Lord his God for the wars which were about him on every side, until the Lord put them under the soles of his feet.

But now the Lord my God hath given me rest on every side, so that there is neither adversary nor evil occurrent.

And, behold, I purpose to build an house unto the name of the Lord my God, as the Lord spake unto David my father, saying, Thy son, whom I will set upon thy throne in thy room, he shall build an house unto my name.

Now therefore command thou that they hew me cedar trees out of Lebanon; and my servants shall be with thy servants: and unto thee will I give hire for thy servants according to all that thou shalt appoint: for thou knowest that there is not among us any that can skill to hew timber like unto the Sidonians.

And it came to pass, when Hiram heard the words of Solomon, that he rejoiced greatly, and said, Blessed be theLord this day, which hath given unto David a wise son over this great people.

And Hiram sent to Solomon, saying, I have considered the things which thou sentest to me for: and I will do all thy desire concerning timber of cedar, and concerning timber of fir.

My servants shall bring them down from Lebanon unto the sea: and I will convey them by sea in floats unto the place that thou shalt appoint me, and will cause them to be discharged there, and thou shalt receive them: and thou shalt accomplish my desire, in giving food for my household.

10 So Hiram gave Solomon cedar trees and fir trees according to all his desire.

11 And Solomon gave Hiram twenty thousand measures of wheat for food to his household, and twenty measures of pure oil: thus gave Solomon to Hiram year by year.

12 And the Lord gave Solomon wisdom, as he promised him: and there was peace between Hiram and Solomon; and they two made a league together.

13 And king Solomon raised a levy out of all Israel; and the levy was thirty thousand men.

14 And he sent them to Lebanon, ten thousand a month by courses: a month they were in Lebanon, and two months at home: and Adoniram was over the levy.

15 And Solomon had threescore and ten thousand that bare burdens, and fourscore thousand hewers in the mountains;

16 Beside the chief of Solomon’s officers which were over the work, three thousand and three hundred, which ruled over the people that wrought in the work.

17 And the king commanded, and they brought great stones, costly stones, and hewed stones, to lay the foundation of the house.

18 And Solomon’s builders and Hiram’s builders did hew them, and the stonesquarers: so they prepared timber and stones to build the house.

  1. vs 17 Solomon was not sparing any expense in money and time as he prepared the foundation. We should do whatever it takes to prepare the foundation of our lives to prepare for the life to come.

12 And the Lord gave Solomon wisdom, as he promised him: and there was peace between Hiram and Solomon; and they two made a league together.

GOD WILL DO THE SAME FOR US

If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord. A double minded man is unstable in all his ways. (James 1:5-8 KJV)

  3. Solomon was wise indeed. He didn’t forget the promises and he asked. Seems simple enough, just asked; but there is a way of asking:

First he reminded Hiram how things used to be in his father’s David times.
Then, told him how things were now that they were in peace all around.
Then, he reminded him of the promise of God, when David ask to build a house for the Lord.
Now was the time for the request, I want cedar and fir for the house of God, and in return I will pay you greatly. He even included a praise, no one can work the wood like you guys can.

    The answer was clear:

8 And Hiram sent to Solomon, saying, I have considered the things which thou sentest to me for: and I will do all thy desire concerning timber of cedar, and concerning timber of fir.

9 My servants shall bring them down from Lebanon unto the sea: and I will convey them by sea in floats unto the place that thou shalt appoint me, and will cause them to be discharged there, and thou shalt receive them: and thou shalt accomplish my desire, in giving food for my household.

10 So Hiram gave Solomon cedar trees and fir trees according to all his desire.

In little words, don’t you worry Solomon we got this, I couldn’t work with your father but you know what you are an okay guy and I want to be part of this and be your friend.

I said all this to say this, there is a correct way and an incorrect way to ask anything from someone. Inform yourself of their situation first, make sure you know exactly what you need from them, become allies, and by the way a little praise goes a long way and so does a please and thank you.

  4. 4 But now the Lord my God hath given me rest on every side, so that there is neither adversary nor evil occurrent.

The enemy may be attacking right now. He might have us backed into a corner screaming at us to give up. He may be trying everything he can do dissuade, deceive, and break us. However the enemy is revealing his weakness in his strategy.

The enemy can see potential, he can tell when things start to come together that will begin to propel us in the destiny that God has for us. This is why he attacks so hard. He is terrified of what we can become.

The key is to never give up. God makes all things beautiful in his own time. If we let patience have her perfect work we will not be disappointed.

The next time the enemy attacks, laugh in his face and proclaim the victory that you already know is yours!

  5. 3 Thou knowest how that David my father could not build an house unto the name of the Lord his God for the wars which were about him on every side, until the Lord put them under the soles of his feet.
4 But now the Lord my God hath given me rest on every side, so that there is neither adversary nor evil occurrent.

Often, with all the cares of life going on around us, it becomes hard to remember any of the battles that our fathers had faught and won for us and the kingdom. We must take their victories though and capitalize on them, because they broke the fallow ground. Through their efforts, seeds have been sown, and God has given the increase. We must not allow our desire to grow His kingdom to become choked out, or wither and fade, we must work. There is a large harvest all over this reigon, waiting on us to do our part, and bring the lost and hurting souls to the supper table, and shrink hell

  6. LABORERS TOGETHER

11 And Solomon gave Hiram twenty thousand measures of wheat for food to his household, and twenty measures of pure oil: thus gave Solomon to Hiram year by year.

Stones and trees remain today as key components and valuable assets in building the House of the LORD. The stones represent the foundation, which would be the doctrines established in the WORD of GOD. The trees represent the trees of life which would represent the fruit of the SPIRIT we bear.

The key in this chapter is not as much about the products trees, stones, wheat and oil; as it is about the labor of 7 years to accomplish the task.

The products or treasure, the time and the talent or laborers are an example to us today of what can be done for GOD if we work together. The numbers are astounding when we consider how many laborers worked together.

Then King Solomon conscripted a labor force of 30,000 men from all Israel. Solomon also had 70,000 common laborers, 80,000 quarry workers in the hill country, and 3,600 foremen to supervise the work. At the king’s command

    183,600 LABORERS TOGETHER

  7. Building A House

17 And the king commanded, and they brought great stones, costly stones, and hewed stones, to lay the foundation of the house.

18 And Solomon’s builders and Hiram’s builders did hew them, and the stonesquarers: so they prepared timber and stones to build the house.

A good foundation is costly, and makes the expense of the rest of the house worth it. Too often we get all concerned about the top part and ignore what foundation is being laid until the opportunity to lay it right in the first place is gone. It’s easier to do something right first than have to go back and make repairs later and deal with damage control.

Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity. Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock. And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it. (Matthew 7:21-27 KJV)

Having the upper, more visible house “right” does not make a wrong foundation right. The only house that will last is that which is built on the Rock, Christ Jesus.

Except the Lord build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the Lord keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain. (Psalm 127:1 KJV)

  8. This chapter illustrates fulfillment. “And it came to pass, when Hiram heard the words of Solomon, that he rejoiced greatly, and said, Blessed be theLord this day, which hath given unto David a wise son over this great people.” Solomon had a purpose, which was to fulfill what Jesus told his father and therefore Hiram rejoiced when he heard it. We should be ready to also rejoice and say “Blessed be theLord this day” when our promises and when POFW’ s promises are fulfilled. May the good Lord Bless you all in Jesus name, Amen

  9. 3 Thou knowest how that David my father could not build an house unto the name of the Lord his God for the wars which were about him on every side, until the Lord put them under the soles of his feet.

4 But now the Lord my God hath given me rest on every side, so that there is neither adversary nor evil occurrent.

Turn it all over to God and watch God work out your problems with the adversary………

  10. Solomon had piece on ever side and was able to build the temple be cause of obaying God usually when we find are selfs in a bad situation its because of disobedance God held use to follow you and the man of God you have put over us

  11. 6. Now therefore command thou that they hew me cedar trees out of Lebanon; and my servants shall be with thy servants: and unto thee will I give hire for thy servants according to all that thou shalt appoint: for thou knowest that there is not among us any that can skill to hew timber like unto the Sidonians.

Among all the other comments already made which are absolutely correct, another thing that jumped at me was EXCELLENCE. Solomon was a wise king even before he asked the Lord for wisdom, that in itself is very wise. Now with all the knowledge and understanding that the Lord had given him and as his relationship with the Lord grew, having learned from his father David, he knew that God deserves the Best of the best. We can go back to the beginnings where God was pleased with Abel’s offering because he chose the best. This transfers to our life and what we choose to give Him. We He created us He made something with excellence
“I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.” psalm 139:14

God wants the best out of us because He knows what He created in us and the potential that we have. Now we don’t all have the same skills but can offer the best in what we know we have. We are all members of one body with different functions. Giving God our best shows reverence, respect, love. The best of our time, the best of our strength, the best of our life. Another thing was that Solomon was Humble enough to recognize that someone else was the best at something he was not and therefore was not prideful, but rather, because he wanted to offer God the best, went and asked for help.
Excellence and Humbleness, atributes of a great leader and good examples to follow when trying to please God.

  12. 5 And, behold, I purpose to build an house unto the name of the Lord my God, as the Lord spake unto David my father, saying, Thy son, whom I will set upon thy throne in thy room, he shall build an house unto my name.

Solomon had a purpose in mind “to build an house unto the name of the Lord” and he commenced in that process.

I believe it is the desire of the Lord that we have that same purpose, not just in a physical sanctuary to the Lord, but making our body, His house, where He can dwell.

The Lord promised to build the temple through Solomon and now doors are opening. One of the KEYS to building the temple was the Key of Peace.
(1 Kings 5:3-5 KJV)

Maybe the Pentecostals of Fort Worth have been In a season of warfare…maybe our enemies are on the verge of defeat…maybe we are on the verge of an Holy Ghost refreshing…we could be on the verge of building our new building. But I think the key is peace…

When a man’s ways please the Lord, he maketh even his enemies to be at peace with him. (Proverbs 16:7 KJV)

  14. Making plans to build.

5 And, behold, I purpose to build an house unto the name of the Lord my God, as the Lord spake unto David my father, saying, Thy son, whom I will set upon thy throne in thy room, he shall build an house unto my name.

David was a man of war, and because of this the Bible states that because he had to much blood on his hands that he would not be able to build the new tabrenacle. So instead of David , Solomon was the man for the job. The cool thing is that because Solomon was getting blessed, he was able to make the tabrenacle out of fine materials.

  15. In the beginning of this chapter we see one king extending a hand of peace and honor to another king. The Bible says that Hiram had loved David his whole life, so he was delighted to be able to help his son who was now king. This shows that if we can grasp the understanding of completely and totally working together for the good of the church, nothing can stop the church from growing. By the end of the chapter, the temple work begins with everyone working together to see the promise come to pass. I can’t help but get excited about what is to come for POFW!

  16. v3 Thou knowest how that David my father could not build an house unto the name of the LORD his GOD for wars which were about him on every side, until the LORD put them under the soles of his feet.

We depend on GOD’s Power. HE is the true vine and must be connected to the vine .
With GOD nothing shall be impossible .
As we build an house for the LORD and stay connected to the vine ( JESUS ) there is something flowing ….. Like strength , ability
    love, peace, praise, and worship.
We should also envelope our physical home with love, care, concern and devotion.
There are many houses and very few homes.
GOD can fill everything that’s empty with

    pur·pose:
    1. the reason for which something exists or is done, made, used, etc.
    2. an intended or desired result; end; aim; goal.
    3. determination; resoluteness.

If we are to do something for God, first we must purpose it in our hearts – we have to be determined and resolute or the enemy will distract us and keep us from completing our mission. With so many workers and so much to be done, it would have been easy for Solomon to get frustrated and quit, but he had the determination so see it through; and so it must be with us – we cannot let the enemy stop us from Impacting Fort Worth!

  19. Solomon took a great intrest in building the house of the Lord. He was pleased to be the one chosen to do this work. He also found favor in God and man as his father did.

  20. 5 And, behold, I purpose to build an house unto the name of the Lord my God, as the Lord spake unto David my father, saying, Thy son, whom I will set upon thy throne in thy room, he shall build an house unto my name.

1 Corinthians 3:9 For we are labourers together with God: ye are God’s husbandry, ye are God’s building.
10 According to the grace of God which is given unto me, as a wise masterbuilder, I have laid the foundation, and another buildeth thereon.
11 But let every man take heed how he buildeth thereupon.
For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.

1 Corinthians 3:16 Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?

Howbeit the most High dwelleth not in temples made with hands; as saith the prophet, -Acts 7:48

  21. And it came to pass, when Hiram heard the words of Solomon, that he rejoiced greatly, and said, Blessed be theLord this day, which hath given unto David a wise son over this great peopl

Sometimes it feels like we are alone when we so the right thing or because we choose to follow God. But here we see that others rejoice when we do. It never says that Solomon knew hiram rejoiced over his decisions and choice. We can be sure that we are not alone in the good fight

  23. 4 But now the Lord my God hath given me rest on every side, so that there is neither adversary nor evil occurrent.

Solomon says to Hiram my father David couldn’t build a house for the Lord because evil surrounded him from every side.

But the Lord has blessed Solomon with peace from war and put evil under his feet.

Lord you’re wonderful God, you are worthy to be praised. I worship you Lord, put evil and adversay under my feet.

  24. 1 Kings 5:17
And the king commanded, and they brought great stones, costly stones, and hewed stones, to lay the foundation of the house.

Solomon was building God’s house on a rock.

Stones are like the people in the church. A church can’t just be there and it grow. Some of the people are “great stones”. They are there in many places and they do many good things for the church. Some of the people are “costly stones”. These people are valued greatly because of the input they give. These people would be like the ministers in the church. Then there are the “hewed stones”. These are the ones that have been delivered from things and ate now an intruigrual part of our body. People that have been delivered, cut out, of drugs, alcohol, tobacco, pornography, lies, ect.

    Luke 6:48
He is like a man which built an house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock.

  25. The First Lumber Store

Although my family Eats food we require lumber to eat. We have made our living on building and remodeling homes all over the country. If I had no one to hew the lumber for me I couldn’t eat. I wouldn’t have the slightest clue about hewing lumber out of logs. Kevin Baker can tell you I’m not much with a chain saw, but when you give me some lumber to work with I could build anything. We all need each other in our own specific talants because when the computer has no software it can’t do much. When you have a hammer but no nails, or maybe even a message but no one to hear it???? Let’s do our part and get together, do our parts and build this house into God.

  26. God is in control. He cause everything to come together and work in harmony. And I feel that, that blessing of a new building is on its way for POFW. It’s all in due season.

Romans 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

Gal. 6:9 And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.

  27. 7 And it came to pass, when Hiram heard the words of Solomon, that he rejoiced greatly, and said, Blessed be theLord this day, which hath given unto David a wise son over this great people.

  28. BLESSINGS WE DIDN’T EARN

7 And it came to pass, when Hiram heard the words of Solomon, that he rejoiced greatly, and said, Blessed be theLord this day, which hath given unto David a wise son over this great people.

We see that when it came time to build God’s House, Solomon is reciving gifts, not because he earned them but because of his father, or those that came before him.

I thank God for the blessings that I recieve, that I don’t deserve, but that someone who came before me woked for. I hope that one day when I am gone that generations to come will be blessed, because of the life that I live for God.

  29. 12 And the Lord gave Solomon wisdom, as he promised him: and there was peace between Hiram and Solomon; and they two made a league together.
God keeps his promises… Here we see God giving Solomon rest round about him so that he could focus on building a house for him. God kept his promise to Solomon and gave him the wisdom that he needed to be the wise in building the house of the Lord.

  30. Hiram rejoiced greatly that David had a wise son who desired to build a temple to the Lord. Hiram rejoiced over the fact that David had a son that also loved God. Hiram was willing to be a part of the greatest temple ever build-the other reason he was rejoicing! He saw that no expense was to be spared for this temple and bought into Solomon’s dream. This collaboration was only a portion of the overall effort-it will take others skilled and ready to help to see this come to pass.

I pray our men of God buy into Pastor’s dream to build the greatest temple to God in Fort Worth! As we grow, we will need men skilled and ready to help this vision get beyond where we are today.
