1 Kings 9

1 And it came to pass, when Solomon had finished the building of the house of the Lord, and the king’s house, and all Solomon’s desire which he was pleased to do,

That the Lord appeared to Solomon the second time, as he had appeared unto him at Gibeon.

And the Lord said unto him, I have heard thy prayer and thy supplication, that thou hast made before me: I have hallowed this house, which thou hast built, to put my name there for ever; and mine eyes and mine heart shall be there perpetually.

And if thou wilt walk before me, as David thy father walked, in integrity of heart, and in uprightness, to do according to all that I have commanded thee, and wilt keep my statutes and my judgments:

Then I will establish the throne of thy kingdom upon Israel for ever, as I promised to David thy father, saying, There shall not fail thee a man upon the throne of Israel.

But if ye shall at all turn from following me, ye or your children, and will not keep my commandments and my statutes which I have set before you, but go and serve other gods, and worship them:

Then will I cut off Israel out of the land which I have given them; and this house, which I have hallowed for my name, will I cast out of my sight; and Israel shall be a proverb and a byword among all people:

And at this house, which is high, every one that passeth by it shall be astonished, and shall hiss; and they shall say, Why hath the Lord done thus unto this land, and to this house?

And they shall answer, Because they forsook the Lord their God, who brought forth their fathers out of the land of Egypt, and have taken hold upon other gods, and have worshipped them, and served them: therefore hath the Lordbrought upon them all this evil.

10 And it came to pass at the end of twenty years, when Solomon had built the two houses, the house of the Lord, and the king’s house,

11 (Now Hiram the king of Tyre had furnished Solomon with cedar trees and fir trees, and with gold, according to all his desire,) that then king Solomon gave Hiram twenty cities in the land of Galilee.

12 And Hiram came out from Tyre to see the cities which Solomon had given him; and they pleased him not.

13 And he said, What cities are these which thou hast given me, my brother? And he called them the land of Cabul unto this day.

14 And Hiram sent to the king sixscore talents of gold.

15 And this is the reason of the levy which king Solomon raised; for to build the house of the Lord, and his own house, and Millo, and the wall of Jerusalem, and Hazor, and Megiddo, and Gezer.

16 For Pharaoh king of Egypt had gone up, and taken Gezer, and burnt it with fire, and slain the Canaanites that dwelt in the city, and given it for a present unto his daughter, Solomon’s wife.

17 And Solomon built Gezer, and Bethhoron the nether,

18 And Baalath, and Tadmor in the wilderness, in the land,

19 And all the cities of store that Solomon had, and cities for his chariots, and cities for his horsemen, and that which Solomon desired to build in Jerusalem, and in Lebanon, and in all the land of his dominion.

20 And all the people that were left of the Amorites, Hittites, Perizzites, Hivites, and Jebusites, which were not of the children of Israel,

21 Their children that were left after them in the land, whom the children of Israel also were not able utterly to destroy, upon those did Solomon levy a tribute of bondservice unto this day.

22 But of the children of Israel did Solomon make no bondmen: but they were men of war, and his servants, and his princes, and his captains, and rulers of his chariots, and his horsemen.

23 These were the chief of the officers that were over Solomon’s work, five hundred and fifty, which bare rule over the people that wrought in the work.

24 But Pharaoh’s daughter came up out of the city of David unto her house which Solomon had built for her: then did he build Millo.

25 And three times in a year did Solomon offer burnt offerings and peace offerings upon the altar which he built unto the Lord, and he burnt incense upon the altar that was before the Lord. So he finished the house.

26 And king Solomon made a navy of ships in Eziongeber, which is beside Eloth, on the shore of the Red sea, in the land of Edom.

27 And Hiram sent in the navy his servants, shipmen that had knowledge of the sea, with the servants of Solomon.

28 And they came to Ophir, and fetched from thence gold, four hundred and twenty talents, and brought it to king Solomon.

27 And Hiram sent in the navy his servants, shipmen that had knowledge of the sea, with the servants of Solomon.

it appears the Navy has been around quite some time…Congrats brother Boyd and brother Ward. Your roots go way back.

  2. 3 And the Lord said unto him, I have heard thy prayer and thy supplication, that thou hast made before me: I have hallowed this house, which thou hast built, to put my name there for ever; and mine eyes and mine heart shall be there perpetually.

In the same way, through the Holy Ghost which lives in us, we are His temple.

“Behold, I have graven thee upon the palms of my hands; thy walls are continually before me.” Isaiah 49:16

Praise God our walls are always before Him. May we never forget that God is forever present in us.

  3. Lord speaks ..we do.
    thanks for POFW.
WHAT A GOOD PLACE TO WORSHIP THE LORD JESUS …with freedom here in the USA.
    AMEN and AMEN.

  4. This chapter illustrates servitude. The Lord appeared unto Solomon and gave him a charge and told him what would happen if he served him, and also what would happen if he did not. The Lord has likewise given us a charge, however the advantage we have is that we can read from others in the Word of God, both those that served the Lord and those which have served another god (for everyone will serve someone/something). We must simply choose whom we shall serve, for where we spend our eternity is in the balance. May the good Lord Bless you all in Jesus name, Amen

  5. And the Lord came to Solomon a second time … 3 And the Lord said unto him, I have heard thy prayer and thy supplication, that thou hast made before me: I have hallowed this house, which thou hast built, to put my name there for ever; and mine eyes and mine heart shall be there perpetually.

4 And if thou wilt walk before me, as David thy father walked, in integrity of heart, and in uprightness, to do according to all that I have commanded thee, and wilt keep my statutes and my judgments:

5 Then I will establish the throne of thy kingdom upon Israel for ever, as I promised to David thy father, saying, There shall not fail thee a man upon the throne of Israel.

6 But if ye shall at all turn from following me, ye or your children, and will not keep my commandments and my statutes which I have set before you, but go and serve other gods, and worship them:

7 Then will I cut off Israel out of the land which I have given them; and this house, which I have hallowed for my name, will I cast out of my sight; and Israel shall be a proverb and a byword among all people:

The Lord establishes His word to us numerous times so that we will have clear and concise direction. His response to us is predicated on our response to His instructions. If we will walk in his way we will be blessed, however if we turn from following Him, we will become but a byword, a forgotten soul, what used to be. Lord help us to continue to walk in your way and remember your statues and commandments.

  6. The Lord’s response/guarantee to Solomon…….verses 3-5 in the MSG read…’And God said to him, “I’ve listened to and received all your prayers, your ever-so-passionate prayers. I’ve sanctified this Temple that you have built: My Name is stamped on it forever; my eyes are on it and my heart in it always. As for you, if you live in my presence as your father David lived, pure in heart and action, living the life I’ve set out for you, attentively obedient to my guidance and judgments, then I’ll back your kingly rule over Israel, make it a sure thing on a solid foundation. The same guarantee I gave David your father I’m giving you: ‘You can count on always having a descendant on Israel’s throne.’

The beginning of verses 6-9 shows the response of disobedience and not following his commands…..”But if you or your sons betray me, ignoring my guidance and judgments, taking up with alien gods by serving and worshiping them, then the guarantee is off: I’ll wipe Israel right off the map and repudiate this Temple I’ve just sanctified to honor my Name.”

God is very clear in Exodus 20:3 in the MSG….”No other gods, only me.”

  7. UNCHANGING GOD

2 That the Lord appeared to Solomon the second time, as he had appeared unto him at Gibeon.
3 And the Lord said unto him, I have heard thy prayer and thy supplication, that thou hast made before me: I have hallowed this house, which thou hast built, to put my name there for ever; and mine eyes and mine heart shall be there perpetually.

My heart races with joy and excitement every time I read this passage, considering that GOD is speaking to us and The POFW as well in this passage.

Malachi 3:6 For I am the LORD, I change not;…

Hebrews 13:8 Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.

The promises of GOD are yea and amen!

    He HEARS our PRAYER

His HOUSE is HALLOWED when we WORSHIP HIM

His NAME is EXALTED as we PRAISE HIM

His HEART is ATTENTIVE as we HONOR HIM

His THRONE is ESTABLISHED when we OBEY HIM

Destruction is guaranteed if we disobey HIM and fail to follow HIM.

I choose to FOLLOW HIM closely and PRAY CONTINUALLY as I WALK OBEDIENTLY.

  8. 3 And the Lord said unto him, I have heard thy prayer and thy supplication, that thou hast made before me: I have hallowed this house, which thou hast built, to put my name there for ever; and mine eyes and mine heart shall be there perpetually.

This is such a beautiful passage of scripture this is proof that God hears our prayers and honors our supplication. Solomon was made a promise that God would dwell among his people as long as he walked with God. I believe this shows the signifigance of the house of God in our lives and having somewere to go and turn to in time of trouble. To all those who feel going to church is not important here is a bold witness against that!!!

  9. 3 And the Lord said unto him, I have heard thy prayer and thy supplication, that thou hast made before me: I have hallowed this house, which thou hast built, to put my name there for ever; and mine eyes and mine heart shall be there perpetually.

4 And if thou wilt walk before me, as David thy father walked, in integrity of heart, and in uprightness, to do according to all that I have commanded thee, and wilt keep my statutes and my judgments:

3 -5 And God said to him, “I’ve listened to and received all your prayers, your ever-so-passionate prayers. I’ve sanctified this Temple that you have built: My Name is stamped on it forever; my eyes are on it and my heart in it always. The same guarantee I gave David your father I’m giving you: ‘You can count on always having a descendant on Israel’s throne.’ MSG

I want to make sure my house is clean from sin and so that God can work in my house.
God has gave all us promises and if we don’t keep our house clean and where God can dwell how can he answer our prayer.

  10. Solomon received stern wanrings of what would happen if he or his children turned away from serving God to serve other false idols/gods and was given the knowledge of how people would react when they see this magnificent temple after it’s abandoned by God for that sin. He spent 20 years to build it and all the cities mentioned and it seems that if you invest this much time and labor into a project, that you would protect it with all your heart. Maybe Solomon’s heart was no longer in it for the Lord’s sake-but for his own! God knew Solomon better than he himself and yet another warning was given so he could soul search and correct himself before it was too late.

You Want Me To Build a Church There???

12 And Hiram came out from Tyre to see the cities which Solomon had given him; and they pleased him not.

13 And he said, What cities are these which thou hast given me, my brother? And he called them the land of Cabul unto this day.

    Cabul

    • כָּבוּל Kabuwl
      Proper Name Location kaw-bool’
from the same as (03525) in the sense of limitation
from the same as in the sense of limitation; sterile; Cabul, the name of two places in Palestine:–Cabul.
      Cabul = “binding”
a city on the border of Asher and located approx 10 miles (16 km) east of Akko; modern ‘Kabul’
a district in Galilee given by Solomon to Hiram and contemptuously called ‘Cabul’ by Hiram

When the Pentecostals of Fort Worth first built our church on a run down property on a dead end street on the west side of a hill in Fort Worth people laughed and thought we were crazy…but God gave the property and pastor plowed and God watered and now we are fixing to reap…

Hiram… You should have been thankful…

      • A translation I found said:
        Cabul= Good for nothing
        The Devil is a lie
God turns “good for nothing” like me into a worshiper, a praiser, an outreacher, an inreacher, a man hungry for God, a bible study teacher, a man leading his family toward Jesus.
God makes something out of nothing!!!
He has only begun with me. He has only begun with our church. I believe we are just on the outskirts of where we are going. Just wait, it’s coming.

  12. 4 And if thou wilt walk before me, as David thy father walked, in integrity of heart, and in uprightness, to do according to all that I have commanded thee, and wilt keep my statutes and my judgments:

5 Then I will establish the throne of thy kingdom upon Israel for ever, as I promised to David thy father, saying, There shall not fail thee a man upon the throne of Israel.

It is sad that God could not stop here with the blessing. He went on to say that if Solomon did not keep his commandments then “7 Then will I cut off Israel out of the land which I have given them; and this house, which I have hallowed for my name, will I cast out of my sight; and Israel shall be a proverb and a byword among all people:”

The words of warning are out of a heart of love. God was telling him what would happen if they disobeyed.

The enemy waits for us to slip up and disobey. He watches for an opening that he can slip into to and begin his destructive work.

Sometimes the protection that we receive from God comes from him simply being here. When we lose the covering it ties his hands until we repent.

Warnings are not always threats of what God will do, but warnings are sometimes a word of what would happen if God stepped away.

  13. A warning to us, decide whom you will serve. Either you will have the blessings of the Lord, or suffer the consequences of not following God. Will you and your family serve the Lord?

Joshua 24:15 And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.

  14. The the LORD is so that HE gives us
Warnings. We must set our house in
order. GOD knowns everything your doing for HIS Kingdom it’s never a waste when we lay it at JESUS feet.
    LORD order our steps.
Where do I go next GOD?
    What’s your next assignment?
    What a way to live.

  16. God said you obey and I will give you everthing, but if you refuse you will lose it all! Sounds easy but lookaround you so many ignorant people just rather live unhappy! Thats putting it mildly.

  17. 3 And the Lord said unto him, I have heard thy prayer and thy supplication, that thou hast made before me: I have hallowed this house, which thou hast built, to put my name there for ever; and mine eyes and mine heart shall be there perpetually.

4 And if thou wilt walk before me, as David thy father walked, in integrity of heart, and in uprightness, to do according to all that I have commanded thee, and wilt keep my statutes and my judgments:

5 Then I will establish the throne of thy kingdom upon Israel for ever, as I promised to David thy father, saying, There shall not fail thee a man upon the throne of Israel.

6 But if ye shall at all turn from following me, ye or your children, and will not keep my commandments and my statutes which I have set before you, but go and serve other gods, and worship them:

7 Then will I cut off Israel out of the land which I have given them; and this house, which I have hallowed for my name, will I cast out of my sight; and Israel shall be a proverb and a byword among all people:

8 And at this house, which is high, every one that passeth by it shall be astonished, and shall hiss; and they shall say, Why hath the Lord done thus unto this land, and to this house?

9 And they shall answer, Because they forsook the Lord their God, who brought forth their fathers out of the land of Egypt, and have taken hold upon other gods, and have worshipped them, and served them: therefore hath the Lordbrought upon them all this evil. It is my hearts desire that from generation to generation that comes from us will always follow the Lord’s word living in obedience, I would hate to think that the Lord would destroy our city. Because we have chosen to sin. The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is Eternal Life. I choose Life!!!!

  18. And the Lord said unto him, I have heard thy prayer and thy supplication, that thou hast made before me: I have hallowed this house, which thou hast built, to put my name there for ever; and mine eyes and mine heart shall be there perpetually. (1 Kings 9:3 KJV)

    Wow! What a promise.

To know that God listens and is perpetually in a place that we have made for Him is an extreme promise.

  19. 3 And the Lord said unto him, I have heard thy prayer and thy supplication, that thou hast made before me: I have hallowed this house, which thou hast built, to put my name there for ever; and mine eyes and mine heart shall be there perpetually.

Hear my cry, O God; attend unto my prayer. -Psalms 61:1

The Lord hears our prayer and our pleas. He will answer us and separate us through the power of the blood of the Lame.

  20. And if thou wilt walk before me, as David thy father walked, in integrity of heart, and in uprightness, to do according to all that I have commanded thee, and wilt keep my statutes and my judgments: Then I will establish the throne of thy kingdom upon Israel for ever, as I promised to David thy father, saying, There shall not fail thee a man upon the throne of Israel.

We must keep our hearts clean and not just focus on the outside. God cares about both. We can’t hide our inner thoughts and being because God sees it all. He required integrity of heart and uprightness.

  21. 4 And if thou wilt walk before me, as David thy father walked, in integrity of heart, and in uprightness, to do according to all that I have commanded thee, and wilt keep my statutes and my judgments:

Integrity says alot about a man. A good name is to be chosen than great riches. We must have Jesus Christ as our last name. To many times in this world the last name of a person is lazy, back bitting, and shady just to name a few. We have to keep the integrity of the name of the church.

  22. 1 And it came to pass, when Solomon had finished the building of the house of the Lord, and the king’s house, and all Solomon’s desire which he was pleased to do,

2 That the Lord appeared to Solomon the second time, as he had appeared unto him at Gibeon.

Sometimes we just have to step out and finish what God has put in our heart to do. After that place of completion is reached, God can answer with fire, give direction, blessing, etc. Sometimes the answer to opening the floodgates of heaven lies quite simply in our hand in completing the sacrifice God has called us to make.

Now when Solomon had made an end of praying, the fire came down from heaven, and consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices; and the glory of the Lord filled the house. (2 Chronicles 7:1 KJV)

  23. And if thou wilt walk before me, as David thy father walked, in integrity of heart, and in uprightness, to do according to all that I have commanded thee, and wilt keep my statutes and my judgments: (1 Kings 9:4 KJV)

It’s the simplest recipe to follow! Add some listening, then a full cup of obeying God with some prayer and a huge amount of his word and you have the most perfect gift/dessert that will satisfy every craving you could have 🙂

  24. The Lord speaks of David’s obedience, he reminds Solomon of how he
will live in the Temple forever, unless he forgets to follow God’s commands and obey the laws, then he will leave the temple. He warns Solomon to make the right choices.

Lord lead me towards the right direction, I want to make the right choices and do your will.

  25. 2That the Lord appeared to Solomon the second time, as he had appeared unto him at Gibeon.
3And the Lord said unto him, I have heard thy prayer and thy supplication, that thou hast made before me: I have hallowed this house, which thou hast built, to put my name there for ever; and mine eyes and mine heart shall be there perpetually.
4And if thou wilt walk before me, as David thy father walked, in integrity of heart, and in uprightness, to do according to all that I have commanded thee, and wilt
keep my statutes and my judgments:
5 Then I will establish the throne of thy kingdom upon Israel for ever, as I promised to David thy father, saying, There shall not fail thee a man upon the throne of Israel.

It’s seems like after we get Gods attention some fall short by not complying with the conditions God has made.

    • Sorry my post was not complete.

Although its not the out come in this chapter. It just gave me a thought of sometimes when individuals cut themselves short and settling with your average walk with God. The Lord will always have conditions that we must follow. If you make your move or not the Lord is always true to his Word.

2 Chron 7:14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

  26. God’s children are all different in their walk, much like we are. His desire with all of us is the same. Even though we all have different weakness and strengths God desires our devotion, in order to test us, and see if we are ready for advancement in His will. If his kids turn away from him, how can he abide with us, he can’t its against his holy nature. Ultimately, his stern talk with Solomon is one we can learn from, that we cannot take God for granted because we should be dependant on Him for every step and decision we make. I think God saw Solomon’s enigma, and decided to sqwash it now before he is caught up in trying to worship two gods, instead of the one true God. God literally gives, Solomon a ‘check yourself, before you reck yourself’ moment. God I pray you give me a time out whenever you see me about to jump off the deep end.
