2 Chronicles 6

1 Then said Solomon, The Lord hath said that he would dwell in the thick darkness.

But I have built an house of habitation for thee, and a place for thy dwelling for ever.

And the king turned his face, and blessed the whole congregation of Israel: and all the congregation of Israel stood.

And he said, Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, who hath with his hands fulfilled that which he spake with his mouth to my father David, saying,

Since the day that I brought forth my people out of the land of Egypt I chose no city among all the tribes of Israel to build an house in, that my name might be there; neither chose I any man to be a ruler over my people Israel:

But I have chosen Jerusalem, that my name might be there; and have chosen David to be over my people Israel.

Now it was in the heart of David my father to build an house for the name of the Lord God of Israel.

But the Lord said to David my father, Forasmuch as it was in thine heart to build an house for my name, thou didst well in that it was in thine heart:

Notwithstanding thou shalt not build the house; but thy son which shall come forth out of thy loins, he shall build the house for my name.

10 The Lord therefore hath performed his word that he hath spoken: for I am risen up in the room of David my father, and am set on the throne of Israel, as the Lord promised, and have built the house for the name of the Lord God of Israel.

11 And in it have I put the ark, wherein is the covenant of the Lord, that he made with the children of Israel.

12 And he stood before the altar of the Lord in the presence of all the congregation of Israel, and spread forth his hands:

13 For Solomon had made a brasen scaffold of five cubits long, and five cubits broad, and three cubits high, and had set it in the midst of the court: and upon it he stood, and kneeled down upon his knees before all the congregation of Israel, and spread forth his hands toward heaven.

14 And said, O Lord God of Israel, there is no God like thee in the heaven, nor in the earth; which keepest covenant, and shewest mercy unto thy servants, that walk before thee with all their hearts:

15 Thou which hast kept with thy servant David my father that which thou hast promised him; and spakest with thy mouth, and hast fulfilled it with thine hand, as it is this day.

16 Now therefore, O Lord God of Israel, keep with thy servant David my father that which thou hast promised him, saying, There shall not fail thee a man in my sight to sit upon the throne of Israel; yet so that thy children take heed to their way to walk in my law, as thou hast walked before me.

17 Now then, O Lord God of Israel, let thy word be verified, which thou hast spoken unto thy servant David.

18 But will God in very deed dwell with men on the earth? behold, heaven and the heaven of heavens cannot contain thee; how much less this house which I have built!

19 Have respect therefore to the prayer of thy servant, and to his supplication, O Lord my God, to hearken unto the cry and the prayer which thy servant prayeth before thee:

20 That thine eyes may be open upon this house day and night, upon the place whereof thou hast said that thou wouldest put thy name there; to hearken unto the prayer which thy servant prayeth toward this place.

21 Hearken therefore unto the supplications of thy servant, and of thy people Israel, which they shall make toward this place: hear thou from thy dwelling place, even from heaven; and when thou hearest, forgive.

22 If a man sin against his neighbour, and an oath be laid upon him to make him swear, and the oath come before thine altar in this house;

23 Then hear thou from heaven, and do, and judge thy servants, by requiting the wicked, by recompensing his way upon his own head; and by justifying the righteous, by giving him according to his righteousness.

24 And if thy people Israel be put to the worse before the enemy, because they have sinned against thee; and shall return and confess thy name, and pray and make supplication before thee in this house;

25 Then hear thou from the heavens, and forgive the sin of thy people Israel, and bring them again unto the land which thou gavest to them and to their fathers.

26 When the heaven is shut up, and there is no rain, because they have sinned against thee; yet if they pray toward this place, and confess thy name, and turn from their sin, when thou dost afflict them;

27 Then hear thou from heaven, and forgive the sin of thy servants, and of thy people Israel, when thou hast taught them the good way, wherein they should walk; and send rain upon thy land, which thou hast given unto thy people for an inheritance.

28 If there be dearth in the land, if there be pestilence, if there be blasting, or mildew, locusts, or caterpillers; if their enemies besiege them in the cities of their land; whatsoever sore or whatsoever sickness there be:

29 Then what prayer or what supplication soever shall be made of any man, or of all thy people Israel, when every one shall know his own sore and his own grief, and shall spread forth his hands in this house:

30 Then hear thou from heaven thy dwelling place, and forgive, and render unto every man according unto all his ways, whose heart thou knowest; (for thou only knowest the hearts of the children of men:)

31 That they may fear thee, to walk in thy ways, so long as they live in the land which thou gavest unto our fathers.

32 Moreover concerning the stranger, which is not of thy people Israel, but is come from a far country for thy great name’s sake, and thy mighty hand, and thy stretched out arm; if they come and pray in this house;

33 Then hear thou from the heavens, even from thy dwelling place, and do according to all that the stranger calleth to thee for; that all people of the earth may know thy name, and fear thee, as doth thy people Israel, and may know that this house which I have built is called by thy name.

34 If thy people go out to war against their enemies by the way that thou shalt send them, and they pray unto thee toward this city which thou hast chosen, and the house which I have built for thy name;

35 Then hear thou from the heavens their prayer and their supplication, and maintain their cause.

36 If they sin against thee, (for there is no man which sinneth not,) and thou be angry with them, and deliver them over before their enemies, and they carry them away captives unto a land far off or near;

37 Yet if they bethink themselves in the land whither they are carried captive, and turn and pray unto thee in the land of their captivity, saying, We have sinned, we have done amiss, and have dealt wickedly;

38 If they return to thee with all their heart and with all their soul in the land of their captivity, whither they have carried them captives, and pray toward their land, which thou gavest unto their fathers, and toward the city which thou hast chosen, and toward the house which I have built for thy name:

39 Then hear thou from the heavens, even from thy dwelling place, their prayer and their supplications, and maintain their cause, and forgive thy people which have sinned against thee.

40 Now, my God, let, I beseech thee, thine eyes be open, and let thine ears be attent unto the prayer that is made in this place.

41 Now therefore arise, O Lord God, into thy resting place, thou, and the ark of thy strength: let thy priests, O LordGod, be clothed with salvation, and let thy saints rejoice in goodness.

42 O Lord God, turn not away the face of thine anointed: remember the mercies of David thy servant.

  1. v19 Have respect therefore to the prayer of thy servant, and to his supplication, O LORD my GOD, to hearken unto the cry and the prayer which thy servant prayeth before thee:

    We see the pattern of Solomon’s prayer and GOD heard and had respect unto his prayer
    Today we are faced with very alarming conditions of the world. Economically, political, morally and every way.
    They are physical , visible, visions of the intense invisible spiritual darkness and wickedness .
    Thank you JESUS for people that know how to pray and get on their knees as Solomon did and touch GOD. Souls and ministries are counting on intercessors.

    The gates of hell cannot prevail against the church. Let’s make the devils worry. As we lie on our face weep and cry fast and pray the old fashion way ” With groanings which cannot be uttered.” Rom.8:26-27

    A truely remarkable prayer, the House of Prayer is always open…
    20 That thine eyes may be open upon this house day and night, upon the place whereof thou hast said that thou wouldest put thy name there; to hearken unto the prayer which thy servant prayeth toward this place.

  3. 41 Now therefore arise, O Lord God, into thy resting place, thou, and the ark of thy strength: let thy priests, O LordGod, be clothed with salvation, and let thy saints rejoice in goodness.

    Lets make sure our temple (body) is a resting place for our Lord. Be clothed in salvation.

    Ephesians 6:13-18

    13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

    14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;

    15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;

    16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.

    17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:

    18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;

    Are you ready for a miracle? Watch & you will see.

  4. ikneel to pray

    In a beautiful act of reverance and submission, the king Solomon kneels before the King of Kings. vs13 says that “He stood at the platform and then knelt down before the whole assembly of Israel and spread of his hands toward heaven”. The writer of this account uses a Hebrew word for kneel that indicates a close connection between bowing the knee and recieveing a blessing. A person may kneel when making a request of someone who is able to grant a favor (or blessing): like how, traditionally men get down on one knee and propose marriage. A willing servant bends his knee before his master, seeking approval and blessing. Prisoners used to be forced to kneel before their captors, but appreciative subjects will bow or kneel in willings surrender.
    With this understanding in mind, I can see why kneeling is such a meaningful prayer position. Certainly, we can talk to or Lord whether we kneel, sit, or stand, or lie down…but kneeling reveals the attitude of our hearts. One day all people- believers and unbelievers alike- will kneel before Jesus Christ, the eternal King (Php 2:10) and every toungue shall confess he is Lord (Isa 45:23; Ro 14:11).

  5. Solomon said I have built a house for you a selling place. I must build God a selling place in my life every day I wake build Him a house of praise.
    Solomon also prayed that if the people fell away from God that they could come pray at the house and God will forgive them after i have a house of praise built and I fall short I can turn to God and come back to him in the house of praise

  6. Solomon proclaimed that the people no matter where they were should look and pray toward jeruselum and he petitioned God to hear their plea. Today we must look to Jesus and earnestly pray to him and his word says that if we are sincere and have repented that he will hear us.

  8. SOLOMON PRAYED FOR ME

    32 Moreover concerning the stranger, which is not of thy people Israel, but is come from a far country for thy great name’s sake, and thy mighty hand, and thy stretched out arm; if they come and pray in this house;
    33 Then hear thou from the heavens, even from thy dwelling place, and do according to all that the stranger calleth to thee for; that all people of the earth may know thy name, and fear thee, as doth thy people Israel, and may know that this house which I have built is called by thy name.

    The LORD many times is identified as the GOD of Israel. GOD identifies himself as such for the first time in:

    Exodus 5:1 And afterward Moses and Aaron went in, and told Pharaoh, Thus saith the Lord God of Israel, Let my people go, that they may hold a feast unto me in the wilderness.
    2 And Pharaoh said, Who is the Lord, that I should obey his voice to let Israel go? I know not the Lord, neither will I let Israel go.

    Solomon’s obedience to build the house of the LORD was a definitive season of change for the people that follow GOD. The GOD was previously sought after and worshipped in a portable tent, now has a secure, splendorous house to be honored with and in. In the midst of this transitional period, the wisdom of Solomon cries unto GOD for the multitudes of people that are not of the linage of Israel.

    I am forever thankful for this prayer of Solomon that would reach into the 20th century in 1988 and grant an opportunity for a Gentile, American, Texan to approach GOD and pray in his house and find grace and walk in his mercy. I am also thankful that this same GOD continues to reach into the 21st century with the same grace and mercy to add to his church daily such as should be saved as we are witnessing continually @POFW.

    Peter’s version of Solomon’s prayer is found in:

    Acts 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
    39 For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.

  9. 2 CORINTHIANS 5:20-21(KJV)
    20/ Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ’s stead, be ye reconciled to God.
    21/ For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin: that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.
    This chapter talks about people’s sin and how Solomon pleads to God about having His forgivness towards the people’s sin. I’m thankful that we have a God that will forgive me,us when we may have the wrongs of life (sin) in our lifes…that we can go to Him with a repentative heart and ask for His forgiveness and He will forgive us and not only that but show us how to resolve our problem so we wont have to fall again into sin. Thank you Lord for forgivi.g me when doing wrong and showing me the truth and the LIGHT.

  10. 22 If a man sin against his neighbour, and an oath be laid upon him to make him swear, and the oath come before thine altar in this house;

    what to do when you offend someone:
    Our goals should be to pursue peace Romans 14:19
    Recognize that you will offend some people
    Ask forgiveness and seek to rebuild trust.
    Examine your own life.
    Stay true to God’s plan for your life

    Lord help me (us) if we have ought against our brother/sister, it is time we grow up and be there for one another. If you see your brother/sister in christ having a bad day lift them up in prayers and show them you care.

  11. This chapter illustrates dedication. Solomon prayed for the Lord’s remembrance of them; moreover he also prayed that all remember to repent of their sins, and remember where their strength comes from. One must dedicate time daily for repenting, reading of the Word, and thanking Jesus, as the Word and man of God instructs, for all one’s strength comes from the Lord Jesus. May the good Lord Bless you all in Jesus name, Amen

  12. What a prayer! No matter how close or far away the people were from the temple the Lord would hear them. I’m glad that is still for us today. We are never out of reach.

    You know what I am going to say
    even before I say it, LORD. You go before me and follow me.
    You place your hand of blessing on my head. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me,
    too great for me to understand! I can never escape from your Spirit!
    I can never get away from your presence! If I go up to heaven, you are there;
    if I go down to the grave, you are there. If I ride the wings of the morning,
    if I dwell by the farthest oceans, even there your hand will guide me,
    and your strength will support me. I could ask the darkness to hide me
    and the light around me to become night— but even in darkness I cannot hide from you.
    To you the night shines as bright as day.
    Darkness and light are the same to you. You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body
    and knit me together in my mother’s womb. Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex!
    Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it. How precious are your thoughts about me, O God.
    They cannot be numbered! I can’t even count them;
    they outnumber the grains of sand!
    And when I wake up,
    you are still with me! (Psalm 139:4-14, 17, 18 NLT)

  13. As Solomon led the people in prayer, he asked God to hear their pryaers concerning a variety of situations: crime, enemy attacks, drought, war, and sin. God is concerned with whatever we face, even the difficult consequences we bring upon ourselves. He wants us to turn to him in prayer. When we pray, we need to remember that God hears us and we should not let the extremity of our situation cause us to doubt his care for us.

  14. ILove to eat lunch with Jesus

    THE TRINITY

    According to this doctrine, there is only one God in three persons. Each person is God, whole and entire. They are distinct from one another in their relations of origin:

    The following scripture proves there is no such thing as the trinity

    18 But will God in very deed dwell with men on the earth? behold, heaven and the heaven of heavens cannot contain thee; how much less this house which I have built!

    God cannot be contained as three persons…he’s bigger than that… But we can see his face in Jesus

  15. 14 And said, O Lord God of Israel, there is no God like thee in the heaven, nor in the earth; which keepest covenant, and shewest mercy unto thy servants, that walk before thee with all their hearts:

    God – the original promise keeper. What promises has he given you? It may take time-just like it took time for this Temple to be built and the promise to finally be realized. David made much preparation for the building materials before the Temple could be built. What preparation can I make that will assist & accompany the fullfillment of my promises? With prayer, faith, suplications and more, I can do my part to see it come to pass. There is no God like thee in the heaven nor in the earth!

  16. In this scripture, it is apparent someone new how to pray and converse with God. Take a closer look at vs. 38 & 39….With all their heart and with their soul…You mean to be really serious with God and depart from sin. Turn from it…give it to Jesus. Like letting that thing go and present that body as a living sacrifice…but don’t wiggle or squirm off that alter of sacrifice. Be strong in Jesus who gave all……

    “Be blessed”…iwork…igive…ipray…ireap…
    “Thank you Jesus for my truck”…Amen.

  17. 40 Now, my God, let, I beseech thee, thine eyes be open, and let thine ears be attent unto the prayer that is made in this place.

    On the last verse it says ,”…remember the mercies of David thy servant.” Thand you Jesus that you don’t forget your promises. When God promises something it has to come to pass. We serve a gracious God.

  18. 4 And he said, Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, who hath with his hands fulfilled that which he spake with his mouth to my father David, saying,

    God is always faithful to do what He said He would do!

    Hebrews 10:23
    Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;)

  19. 42 O Lord God, turn not away the face of thine anointed: remember the mercies of David thy servant.

    We don’t ever want to get to that point where God turns his face away from us. Holding on to God’s word is important in our daily lives. God is the only one who can keep us from the evil that is in this world.

  20. 2 Now I have built a glorious Temple for you, a place where you can live forever!” (NLT)

    14 He prayed, “Oh Lord, God of Israel, there is no God like you in all of heaven and earth. You keep your covenant and show unfailing love to all who walk before you in wholehearted devotion. (NLT)

  21. But will God in very deed dwell with men on the earth? behold, heaven and the heaven of heavens cannot contain thee; how much less this house which I have built.
    We can not build Him a dwelling place with our hands but it muat be built with our praise.

  22. It is evident by the prayer prayed by Solomon in front of all Israel, that he was trained by his father David in the matter of prayer. What an example to the people, how to approach God, and even when you have gone astray, the attitude to come back to God with is displayed in this chapter.

    He exhibited great leadership in this chapter by being a godly example and shows us how we should lead our families after the same manner.

  23. The prayers of Solomon were prayed out of a heart that was blessed with the wisdom of God to lead a people. He spoke these words, and made a covenant with God. However, Solomon needed to remember the words that he spoke because he would truly live by them.

    In our walk with God we must be very careful what we speak.

    The Bible says that it is better to have never made a promise to God, then to have made a promise and not kept it.

    I am thankful for the leadership covenant at our church. These words are a constant reminder of the covenant that we have made with God.

    Living out this covenant has, and will continue to grow, lead, and progress us in our relationship with God.

  24. 10 The Lord therefore hath performed his word that he hath spoken: for I am risen up in the room of David my father, and am set on the throne of Israel, as the Lord promised, and have built the house for the name of the Lord God of Israel.

    The Lord not only fulfills his promises he also ensures us that if we trust in him and commit ourselves to him he will take care us of us.

  25. And in it have I put the ark, wherein is the covenant of the Lord, that he made with the children of Israel.

    The word of God was in the temple, they recognized the importance and reverenced it. Churches find themselves in trouble when they begin to take the word out of the church or stray away. Im thankful to be a part of a church that believes in the full gospel and the importance of it.

  26. 32 Moreover concerning the stranger, which is not of thy people Israel, but is come from a far country for thy great name’s sake, and thy mighty hand, and thy stretched out arm; if they come and pray in this house;

    33 Then hear thou from the heavens, even from thy dwelling place, and do according to all that the stranger calleth to thee for; that all people of the earth may know thy name, and fear thee, as doth thy people Israel, and may know that this house which I have built is called by thy name.

    But in every nation he that feareth him, and worketh righteousness, is accepted with him. (Acts 10:35 KJV)

    Thanks be to God for the men in our past that thought of more than just themselves
    and lifted the Gentiles up to our father.

    The strangers in our city hinge on our prayers and our reaching for them. Let us never think that we are better than them that are not in the truth. It is our responsiblity to reach them.

    Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons: (Acts 10:34 KJV)

    And the voice spake unto him again the second time, What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common. (Acts 10:15 KJV)

    As Solomon did, Peter had a heart for all of us. Let us see all the lost and give 100% to reach them. In Jesus Name

  27. 13 For Solomon had made a brasen scaffold of five cubits long, and five cubits broad, and three cubits high, and had set it in the midst of the court: and upon it he stood, and kneeled down upon his knees before all the congregation of Israel, and spread forth his hands toward heaven.

    Solomon got in a very prominent position with his people. He went out on a special high place where he could been seen by all and he HUMBLED himself to kneel, showing that God had the authority instead of him, and raise his hand, another sign of submission shpwing that God knows more, can hold him, or carry him through if need arise.
    We had this kind of a mOment at church on Sunday. God bless pastor Watts for his listening to God and submission to the Lord when God said change. The Lord worked through pastor like he did Solomon. Both were prominent, submitted, and spoke to God in afraid of whole was listening or what other people might say.

  28. Chosen

    6 But I have chosen Jerusalem, that my name might be there; and have chosen David to be over my people Israel.

    Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you. (John 15:16 KJV)

    But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light: (1 Peter 2:9 KJV)

    Praise ye the Lord. Praise ye the name of the Lord; praise him, O ye servants of the Lord. Ye that stand in the house of the Lord, in the courts of the house of our God, Praise the Lord; for the Lord is good: sing praises unto his name; for it is pleasant. For the Lord hath chosen Jacob unto himself, and Israel for his peculiar treasure. (Psalm 135:1-4 KJV)

    It is a wonderful thing to be chosen by God.

  29. When the heaven is shut up, and there is no rain, because they have sinned against thee; yet if they pray toward this place, and confess thy name, and turn from their sin, when thou dost afflict them; Then hear thou from heaven, and forgive the sin of thy servants, and of thy people Israel, when thou hast taught them the good way, wherein they should walk; and send rain upon thy land, which thou hast given unto thy people for an inheritance. (2 Chronicles 6:26, 27 KJV)
    Rain Lord, let it rain Lord!

  30. Verses 32-33 MSG read “And don’t forget the foreigner who is not a member of your people Israel but has come from a far country because of your reputation—people are going to be attracted here by your great reputation, your wonderworking power—and who come to pray to this Temple.

    Listen from your home in heaven
    and honor the prayers of the foreigner,
    So that people all over the world
    will know who you are and what you’re like,
    And live in reverent obedience before you,
    just as your own people Israel do,
    So they’ll know that you personally
    make this Temple that I’ve built what it is.”

    We are this Temple and we must always have an open door to all who seek to know him. People are hearing about the awesome works that the Lord is doing within our midst.

  31.    God, O God of Israel, there is no God like you in the skies above or on the earth below, who unswervingly keeps covenant with his servants and unfailingly loves them while they sincerely live in obedience to your way. You kept your word to David my father, your promise. You did exactly what you promised—every detail. The proof is before us today!

       Keep it up, God, O God of Israel! Continue to keep the promises you made to David my father when you said, “You’ll always have a descendant to represent my rule on Israel’s throne, on the one condition that your sons are as careful to live obediently in my presence as you have.”MSG

    Keep it up God keep on keeping your promises, Keep it up, keep n blessing your people

  32. This chapter is a beautiful dedication of the House of God from Solomon. He with such elequent words prayed a prayer of dedication to God for the house that he built for God as well as all people who would come in contact with that house. We should believe that everyone who comes in contact with this house will be changed as well.

  33. 26 When the heaven is shut up, and there is no rain, because they have sinned against thee; yet if they pray toward this place, and confess thy name, and turn from their sin, when thou dost afflict them;
    27 Then hear thou from heaven, and forgive the sin of thy servants, and of thy people Israel, when thou hast taught them the good way, wherein they should walk; and send rain upon thy land, which thou hast given unto thy people for an inheritance.

    Solomon is asking here and throughout the rest of the chapter, if and when bad comes because of sin, and the people repent and pray for help then will God please hear and answer their prayers..
    We must always be willing to repent and seek His face, that we might get to keep walking in the blessings that we have been given…
