2 Chronicles 7

1 Now when Solomon had made an end of praying, the fire came down from heaven, and consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices; and the glory of the Lord filled the house.

And the priests could not enter into the house of the Lord, because the glory of the Lord had filled the Lord’s house.

And when all the children of Israel saw how the fire came down, and the glory of the Lord upon the house, they bowed themselves with their faces to the ground upon the pavement, and worshipped, and praised the Lord, saying, For he is good; for his mercy endureth for ever.

Then the king and all the people offered sacrifices before the Lord.

And king Solomon offered a sacrifice of twenty and two thousand oxen, and an hundred and twenty thousand sheep: so the king and all the people dedicated the house of God.

And the priests waited on their offices: the Levites also with instruments of musick of the Lord, which David the king had made to praise the Lord, because his mercy endureth for ever, when David praised by their ministry; and the priests sounded trumpets before them, and all Israel stood.

Moreover Solomon hallowed the middle of the court that was before the house of the Lord: for there he offered burnt offerings, and the fat of the peace offerings, because the brasen altar which Solomon had made was not able to receive the burnt offerings, and the meat offerings, and the fat.

Also at the same time Solomon kept the feast seven days, and all Israel with him, a very great congregation, from the entering in of Hamath unto the river of Egypt.

And in the eighth day they made a solemn assembly: for they kept the dedication of the altar seven days, and the feast seven days.

10 And on the three and twentieth day of the seventh month he sent the people away into their tents, glad and merry in heart for the goodness that the Lord had shewed unto David, and to Solomon, and to Israel his people.

11 Thus Solomon finished the house of the Lord, and the king’s house: and all that came into Solomon’s heart to make in the house of the Lord, and in his own house, he prosperously effected.

12 And the Lord appeared to Solomon by night, and said unto him, I have heard thy prayer, and have chosen this place to myself for an house of sacrifice.

13 If I shut up heaven that there be no rain, or if I command the locusts to devour the land, or if I send pestilence among my people;

14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

15 Now mine eyes shall be open, and mine ears attent unto the prayer that is made in this place.

16 For now have I chosen and sanctified this house, that my name may be there for ever: and mine eyes and mine heart shall be there perpetually.

17 And as for thee, if thou wilt walk before me, as David thy father walked, and do according to all that I have commanded thee, and shalt observe my statutes and my judgments;

18 Then will I stablish the throne of thy kingdom, according as I have covenanted with David thy father, saying, There shall not fail thee a man to be ruler in Israel.

19 But if ye turn away, and forsake my statutes and my commandments, which I have set before you, and shall go and serve other gods, and worship them;

20 Then will I pluck them up by the roots out of my land which I have given them; and this house, which I have sanctified for my name, will I cast out of my sight, and will make it to be a proverb and a byword among all nations.

21 And this house, which is high, shall be an astonishment to every one that passeth by it; so that he shall say, Why hath the Lord done thus unto this land, and unto this house?

22 And it shall be answered, Because they forsook the LordGod of their fathers, which brought them forth out of the land of Egypt, and laid hold on other gods, and worshipped them, and served them: therefore hath he brought all this evil upon them.

  1. v 12 And the LORD appeared to Solomon by night, and said unto him, I have heard thy prayer, and have chosen this place to myself for an house of sacrifice.

    Solomon must have had a marvelous feeling to know that GOD heard and answered his prayer
    GOD answers childlike prayers.
    “Except ye be converted, and become as little children , ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.” Matt.18:3

    GOD DESIRES RELATIONSHIP ( through prayer and reading scripture) It’s a two way communication and shared confidence.
    This chapter has so much to talk about I’ll share only two things
    1. v1 Solomon prayed and the glory of the LORD filled the house. ( GODS PRESENCE)
    2. v3 All the children of Israel saw the fire come down (” How about all of Ft. Worth saw the fire come down.) It sounds like Revival to me. Prayer,reading HIS WORD brings HIS GLORY and the fire and that brings revival and we worship HIM because of who HE IS!!!

    My prayer today is….” Here we are LORD fill us once again, as we empty ourselves from carnality and from this world .
    LORD… we pray to you because all we want is to practice your presence. To be near to you is the greatest pleasure in all this world.
    ( Just like a child that just wants to be near
    his/her father )
    We worship you,” For you is good for His mercy endureth for ever.”

    God hears our prayer

    12 And the Lord appeared to Solomon by night, and said unto him, I have heard thy prayer, and have chosen this place to myself for an house of sacrifice.

    God is full of grace and mercy, he listens to our prayers and answers by fire. When we receive the Holy Ghost, the fire of God enters our temple and consumes the sacrifice that’s on the altar of our heart. He makes the same promise to us, that he will never leave us or forsake us.

  3. 14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

    A time for love.

    Every time that I have had the experience of truly humbling myself before the Lord ALL I FEEL IS LOVE. It is a love that can not be explain, an intimacy beyond any other. Like last Sunday night, I see why Mary will choose to lay at His feet. My heart was so full of His love that I could not contained the tears. Our Lord loves us, that should be enough for anyone. Enough to not be concern about the mountains, enough not to be concern about anything. For greater is HE that is in me that he that is in the world. Thank you God for allowing me to lay at your feet.

  4. Vs 9 After the feasting and praise and sacrifice, the people became solemn and quiet. There should be a time for waiting on the Lord to speak to your heart after praising and worshipping him.

  5. IF. THEN.

    14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

    Life is filled daily with choices, with our choices we develop habits and with these same habits we develop and form our lifestyle. Here in verse 14 GOD is challenging Solomon to develop and commit to a lifestyle of prayer, humility, hunger and repentance. These choices remain ours today. Consider:

    IF
    Humble – not proud or haughty :not arrogant or assertive. Verse 14 is notably the most referenced verse in the bible in regards to prayer and rightfully so, however “Humility” is the first mention of our LORD to Solomon. If my people “Humble Themselves”

    Pray – to make a request in a humble manner: to address God or a god with adoration, confession, supplication, or thanksgiving. Humility is a prerequisite to sincere prayer. It is not only submitting our daily schedule to GOD, it is also our attitude in approaching him. Treating our time with HIM as the most important appointment of the day.

    Seek – to resort to : go to: to go in search of : look for :to try to discover. To earnestly discover HIM, his personality, his image, his being, his deity. Our face is our identity, we should seek his identity. That I may KNOW HIM.

    Turn – to bend a course around or about: to direct or point (as the face) in a specified way or direction. Our thoughts, heart, speech, attitude and actions should be toward the LORD and away from sin.

    THEN
    Hear – Ask and it shall be given

    Forgive – Release, cast off.

    Heal – Restore, renew.

    I am thankful for these promises of GOD.

    IF we don’t THEN
    19 But if ye turn away, and forsake my statutes and my commandments, which I have set before you, and shall go and serve other gods, and worship them;

    20 Then will I pluck them up by the roots out of my land which I have given them; and this house,

  6. This chapter illustrates choice. After the great task of building the house of the Lord there was a dedication and celebration unto the Lord, and then there was a choice to either serve God (Jesus) and be blessed or not and be cursed. One today has the same choice, too either follow the Word and heed what the man of God says or follow self and heed what the deceiver says. May the good Lord Bless you all in Jesus name, Amen

  7. 1 Now when Solomon had made an end of praying, the fire came down from heaven, and consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices; and the glory of the Lord filled the house.

  8. 14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

    14 and my people, my God-defined people, respond by humbling themselves, praying, seeking my presence, and turning their backs on their wicked lives, I’ll be there ready for you: I’ll listen from heaven, forgive their sins, and restore their land to health MSG

    We cannot have a relationship with God with sin in our lives. We can’t have the world and have the anointing of God. Its time to turn away from the wicked things of the world and quit jumping the fence everytime something goes wrong. We are going to have trails and troubles and that is when we learn to lean on the Lord.

    1 John 2:1 KJV
    My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:

  9. 14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

    15 Now mine eyes shall be open, and mine ears attent unto the prayer that is made in this place.

    16 For now have I chosen and sanctified this house, that my name may be there for ever: and mine eyes and mine heart shall be there perpetually.

    Lord Heal our Land, our City, our Nation. Forgive us of all of our Sins.

  10. There is a day… When we all will bow our heads and knees and say you are King of Kings and Lord of Lords . Every tongue will confess that Jesus is King.
    Why not I do this now, on a daily basis? HE IS THE ULTIMATE AND THE EVER LASTING FATHER FOREVER AND EVER!
    Thank you Jesus for your provision and prescence in my life. Will always acknoledge you every day.
    Thank you for everything even the things that I might not be aware of that comes from You.

    The God of the Drought

    13 If I shut up heaven that there be no rain, or if I command the locusts to devour the land, or if I send pestilence among my people;

    For day and night thy hand was heavy upon me: my moisture is turned into the drought of summer. Selah. I acknowledged my sin unto thee, and mine iniquity have I not hid. I said, I will confess my transgressions unto the Lord; and thou forgavest the iniquity of my sin. Selah. (Psalm 32:4, 5 KJV)

    A drought is upon her waters; and they shall be dried up: for it is the land of graven images, and they are mad upon their idols. (Jeremiah 50:38 KJV)

  12. 11 Thus Solomon finished the house of the Lord, and the king’s house: and all that came into Solomon’s heart to make in the house of the Lord, and in his own house, he prosperously effected.

    Outer fruit of a inner relationship:

    12 And the Lord appeared to Solomon by night, and said unto him, I have heard thy prayer, and have chosen this place to myself for an house of sacrifice.

    There were many grand, outwardly apparent things involved in the temple building and beginning establishment during Solomon’s reign, yet we find key times when God came and spoke to Solomon privately in the night season. Away from the crowd, away from the busyness of daytime responsibilities, away from perhaps even kingship when Solomon was able to meet with God not so much as “Solomon, king of Israel” but as simply Solomon, a man. A close walk with God, including humble personal devotion time of one-on-one time with God, will be the life-root for great things to be done outwardly as fruit of that private devotion. We should earnestly covet our time with God and be diligent to protect our time of devotion with Him.

    14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

    It’s the little foxes that spoil the vine, the little slips that carry us far away before we realize what’s happened. Humbling ourselves, praying, seeking God’s face, and living repentant lives should be a continual lifestyle, not just an event for when we’ve messed up and need to put a band-aid on our walk with God. We cannot live from move-of-God to move-of-God, there must be a constant inner renewing through consistent, daily devotion with Him; I don’t believe v14 gives just a formula for getting things right after messing up with God (do 1, 2, 3, then rinse and repeat if necessary), I believe it is a reminder to His people of the structure of what should be in our daily walk with God.

    Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent. (Revelation 2:5 KJV)

  13. What Does Sin Do?
    1) Seperates Us From God
    2) Hides God’s Face
    3) God Will Not Hear

    Isaiah 59:2, “But your iniquities have seperated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear.”

    The 4 Step Plan To Forgiveness And Healing
    1) Humble Yourself
    2) Pray
    3) Seek God’s Face
    4) Repent

    Vs. 14, “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then shall I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”

    What Happens When We Follow The 4 Step Plan?
    1) God Hears
    2) God Forgives
    3) God Heals

  14. v10 ” He sent the people away into their tents, glad and merry in heart for the goodness that the LORD had shewed unto David, and to Solomon, and to Israel his people.

    But seek ye first the kingdom of GOD, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Matt.6:33

    This let’s us know that if we seek HIS PRESENCE FIRST we will find His rest, peace, love righteousness , and His Holiness . A place where we belong . GOD will talk with us and give us all we have need of and our desires.
    According to His Will.
    All these things shall be added unto you and
    v10″ Make our hearts glad and merry”
    Because of His goodness, mercy and grace.
    When you seek HIS FACE AND NOT HIS HAND.
    This to me is so encouraging I love this relationship with our Heavenly Father.

  15. Serving a jealous God.

    19 But if ye turn away, and forsake my statutes and my commandments, which I have set before you, and shall go and serve other gods, and worship them;
    20 Then will I pluck them up by the roots out of my land which I have given them; and this house, which I have sanctified for my name, will I cast out of my sight, and will make it to be a proverb and a byword among all nations.
    21 And this house, which is high, shall be an astonishment to every one that passeth by it; so that he shall say, Why hath the Lord done thus unto this land, and unto this house?
    22 And it shall be answered, Because they forsook the LordGod of their fathers, which brought them forth out of the land of Egypt, and laid hold on other gods, and worshiped them, and served them: therefore hath he brought all this evil upon them.

    If Israel would have turned away from God, He would have turned from them. Simply put, We serve a jealous God that doesn’t want anything but Him in our lives. He gave His life so that we could live. The question is this.
    Who do we think we are? To allow things in our life to hinder us from serving such an awesome God. Yes I believe that He wants us to enjoy what He created, but not to the expense of our walk with Him. All have sinned and come short of the Glory of God and His goodness. And yet He still loves us. We honestly do serve a great God.

  16. Verses 14-16 AMP read ” If My people, who are called by My name, shall humble themselves, pray, seek, crave, and require of necessity My face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven, forgive their sin, and heal their land. Now My eyes will be open and My ears attentive to prayer offered in this place. For I have chosen and sanctified (set apart for holy use) this house, that My Name may be here forever, and My eyes and My heart will be here perpetually.” It is so awesome to know that we can call upon Almighty God and he is attentive to our prayers. We must humble ourselves, pray and seek his will for our lives.

  17. 12 And the Lord appeared to Solomon by night, and said unto him, I have heard thy prayer, and have chosen this place to myself for an house of sacrifice.

    Just an other reminder that just because you call a building a church, it doesn’t mean that God dwells there

  18. We see in this chapter the result of genuine prayer. The glory was so think that the people could not enter, then the Lord spoke commandments to Solomon. If you will, I will and if you don’t, then this is what you can expect.

    We can expect the same type of response when we are sincere and genuine with the Lord – we should see evidence of hte glory of God filling the house, drawing people to the sanctuary to see what is going on and desiring to be part of what’s going on. And after the glory comes, the commandments of how we are to walk and do will follow.

  19. 2 And the priests could not enter into the house of the Lord, because the glory of the Lord had filled the Lord’s house.

    3 And when all the children of Israel saw how the fire came down, and the glory of the Lord upon the house, they bowed themselves with their faces to the ground upon the pavement, and worshipped, and praised the Lord, saying, For he is good; for his mercy endureth for ever.

    Who can stand in the presence of the Lord? When the Lord fills our house(body) how could we not fall down and worship?

  20. 13 If I shut up heaven that there be no rain, or if I command the locusts to devour the land, or if I send pestilence among my people;

    This principal that God set in motion still applies today. When we see nature go waywire, it’s not necesarliy global warming-it’s God trying to get our attention and to bring his people to prayer and to return to him. This type of prayer and crying out to God brings us into communion with him and then once again the land is healed. Historically people live for God one generation then the next one falls away and we read it all through the scriptures. God gets our attention thru adverse conditions, and people turn back to him. My prayer is that people will not harden their hearts when the hard times really come, but will turn to God and cry out and be saved when the times of refreshing come.

  21. The Lord spoke to Solomon and made promises to him but also let him know the consequences if he chose to walk away. While reading this it reminded me of how sometimes we expect God to hold up His end of an agreement when we have not been faithful in our end. Once we break covenant with God then He is no longer bound to His side but so often it seems we as people get angry with God when we are the ones who made that choice. Im very grateful for the mercy of God because I know I fall short and fail Him often. Im thankful for the opportunity to repent and come back when I make mistakes so that I do not end up as He promises the temple will in vs 21.

  22. 13 If I shut up heaven that there be no rain, or if I command the locusts to devour the land, or if I send pestilence among my people;

    14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

    Three things are indicative of a need for the actions of verse 14.

    1. No rain.

    2. Devourer

    3. Sickness

    In a spiritual sense this could indicate a dry and thirsty people, financially challenged, and weak and feeble.

    Interestingly God said “If I…” God is the catalyst to this event. Perhaps the reason this happens is that God knows what will come as a result of true repentance.

    God wants to heal the land, forgive sin, and hear from heaven. I think that sometimes he allows things to come our way to press us into a place where our response will bring about the healing, change, or miracle.

    Deuteronomy 30:1-6

    “And when all these things come upon you, the blessing and the curse, which I have set before you, and you call them to mind among all the nations where the Lord your God has driven you, and return to the Lord your God, you and your children, and obey his voice in all that I command you today, with all your heart and with all your soul, then the Lord your God will restore your fortunes and have compassion on you, and he will gather you again from all the peoples where the Lord your God has scattered you. If your outcasts are in the uttermost parts of heaven, from there the Lord your God will gather you, and from there he will take you. And the Lord your God will bring you into the land that your fathers possessed, that you may possess it. And he will make you more prosperous and numerous than your fathers.

  23. Our God sees our hearts and our sacrifice. What is it then that keeps us from reaching the levels of this astonishing move of God mentioned in verse 1-2

    1 Now when Solomon had made an end of praying, the fire came down from heaven, and consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices; and the glory of the Lord filled the house.

    2 And the priests could not enter into the house of the Lord, because the glory of the Lord had filled the Lord’s house.

    There are conditions to God moving.

    The ones not mentioned in this chapter are what preceded this great move of God.

    Sacrifice and Obedeince

    Sacrificing your own dream to be obedient to
    The voice of God was a great test to King David.
    This set Solomon up for success in his work.

    Let our steps be ordered so that our sons and daughters are met by the glory of the Lord in such a way

  24. 14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.
    Jesus!

  25. It is time for the church to call a solemn assembly once again to repent and seek the face of God for deliverance. If we want true revival we must Seek God so that His presence will be invited into our lives.

  26. The effectual, fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much. Our prayers should always change the atmosphere around us. Solomon knew how to pray and get God’s attention.

  27. 1 Now when Solomon had made an end of praying, the fire came down from heaven, and consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices; and the glory of the Lord filled the house.

    2 And the priests could not enter into the house of the Lord, because the glory of the Lord had filled the Lord’s house.

    3 And when all the children of Israel saw how the fire came down, and the glory of the Lord upon the house, they bowed themselves with their faces to the ground upon the pavement, and worshipped, and praised the Lord, saying, For he is good; for his mercy endureth for ever.

    There is so many beautiful verses in this chapter to choose from but I chose this one because in verse 1 it says the fire came down from heaven and consumed to sacrifice that Solomon had made and that the glory of God filled the house. I am thankful for the fire of the Holy Ghost that falls from heaven to consume our sacrifice of worship and praise unto God. It is a blessing to have God accept our sacrifice and honor it.

  28. 17 And as for thee, if thou wilt walk before me, as David thy father walked, and do according to all that I have commanded thee, and shalt observe my statutes and my judgments;

    18 Then will I stablish the throne of thy kingdom, according as I have covenanted with David thy father, saying, There shall not fail thee a man to be ruler in Israel.

    19 But if ye turn away, and forsake my statutes and my commandments, which I have set before you, and shall go and serve other gods, and worship them;

    20 Then will I pluck them up by the roots out of my land which I have given them; and this house, which I have sanctified for my name, will I cast out of my sight, and will make it to be a proverb and a byword among all nations.

    Here is where I see God has told Solomon how it will be. Many times I see parents do this with their children and yet the kids continue to walk all over the parents brcause the parents are scared to follow through with their threats. We as the church need to keep in mind that all whom are around us see when we do this, and mock us for it. As the church, not only do we need to lead by example and follow through with as we yell our children, but also be cogisnant of the fact that people are watching our every move to see if we are going to be established as a temple or if we are going to be the butt of their jokes as God went on to tell Solomon that he would make the temple if Solomon refused to seek him with his whole heart….

  29. Verses 19 & 20 remind me of how easily it is to be consumed in other things that become gods in our lives… To lose the anointed path and being in the sight of the Lord Is a heavy thing to weigh before you make decisions on where you put your time
