2 Chronicles 22

1 And the inhabitants of Jerusalem made Ahaziah his youngest son king in his stead: for the band of men that came with the Arabians to the camp had slain all the eldest. So Ahaziah the son of Jehoram king of Judah reigned.

Forty and two years old was Ahaziah when he began to reign, and he reigned one year in Jerusalem. His mother’s name also was Athaliah the daughter of Omri.

He also walked in the ways of the house of Ahab: for his mother was his counsellor to do wickedly.

Wherefore he did evil in the sight of the Lord like the house of Ahab: for they were his counsellors after the death of his father to his destruction.

He walked also after their counsel, and went with Jehoram the son of Ahab king of Israel to war against Hazael king of Syria at Ramothgilead: and the Syrians smote Joram.

And he returned to be healed in Jezreel because of the wounds which were given him at Ramah, when he fought with Hazael king of Syria. And Azariah the son of Jehoram king of Judah went down to see Jehoram the son of Ahab at Jezreel, because he was sick.

And the destruction of Ahaziah was of God by coming to Joram: for when he was come, he went out with Jehoram against Jehu the son of Nimshi, whom the Lord had anointed to cut off the house of Ahab.

And it came to pass, that, when Jehu was executing judgment upon the house of Ahab, and found the princes of Judah, and the sons of the brethren of Ahaziah, that ministered to Ahaziah, he slew them.

And he sought Ahaziah: and they caught him, (for he was hid in Samaria,) and brought him to Jehu: and when they had slain him, they buried him: Because, said they, he is the son of Jehoshaphat, who sought the Lord with all his heart. So the house of Ahaziah had no power to keep still the kingdom.

10 But when Athaliah the mother of Ahaziah saw that her son was dead, she arose and destroyed all the seed royal of the house of Judah.

11 But Jehoshabeath, the daughter of the king, took Joash the son of Ahaziah, and stole him from among the king’s sons that were slain, and put him and his nurse in a bedchamber. So Jehoshabeath, the daughter of king Jehoram, the wife of Jehoiada the priest, (for she was the sister of Ahaziah,) hid him from Athaliah, so that she slew him not.

12 And he was with them hid in the house of God six years: and Athaliah reigned over the land.

  1. vs 3 It is imperative that we train up our children in the ways of righteousness and give them good counsel. We can only do this if we are seeking the Lord ourselves.

The Promise in the House of God

12 And he was with them hid in the house of God six years: and Athaliah reigned over the land.

There are promises and prophecies that are already born in the house of God. Evil will not always reign in our city, as long as we keep the promise alive in the house of God, one day that promise will arise and slay the Panther.

  3. We are the seed of Abraham and we are blessed!

Yesterday’s first blog. Got ahead of myself.
    Miss & love y’all . GOD BLESS !

  4. 3 He also walked in the ways of the house of Ahab: for his mother was his counsellor to do wickedly.

Its very sad to see a mother lead her child to death. We must find counsel in the wise and not the wicked. Praise be to God, that He gives us discernment to know the difference.

  5. This chapter illustrates corruption. Ahaziah followed his examples, his teachers and his leaders, and did that what was evil, and as such his life and reign ended quickly. One must be mindful of whom one follows, if one wants to avoid being deceived. One should look for a leader that teaches and preaches the Word of God, and lives by the Word of God. As such one must thank God daily, for the man of God that leads by example and teaches the Word of God. May the good Lord Bless you all in Jesus name, Amen

  6. SAVE THE FUTURE

11 But Jehoshabeath, the daughter of the king, took Joash the son of Ahaziah, and stole him from among the king’s sons that were slain, and put him and his nurse in a bedchamber. The wicked witch of the house of GOD, her name is Athaliah and means “afflicted of the Lord”. The bible describes her as wicked: 3 … for his mother was his counsellor to do wickedly.

It is obvious that Athaliah desired to rule, her driving desire to rule, led her to murder: 10 … she arose and destroyed all the seed royal of the house of Judah. Some people want to control so bad they are even willing to kill their own family. Bitterness some how was in the heart of Athaliah to perform all the wickedness. Unfortunately there are people today that live under the same curse of bitterness and are willing and even attempting to destroy the next generation of righteousness. Bringing railing accusations, sowing discord, infiltrating false doctrines, and even attempting to drag people out of TRUTH. We have this prophetic promise:

Proverbs 11:21 Though hand join in hand, the wicked shall not be unpunished: but the seed of the righteous shall be delivered.

GOD has proven over time that HE is interested in preserving the righteous. We also as his body must take a vested interest in preserving and protecting the Joash’s of our generation by hiding them in the house of GOD.

  7. 7 And the destruction of Ahaziah was of God by coming to Joram: for when he was come, he went out with Jehoram against Jehu the son of Nimshi, whom the Lord had anointed to cut off the house of Ahab.

8 And it came to pass, that, when Jehu was executing judgment upon the house of Ahab, and found the princes of Judah, and the sons of the
brethren of Ahaziah, that ministered to Ahaziah, he slew them.

You dont want to walk into battle against someone that has been anointed by God, you will probaly loose. He probably didnt know that Jehu was there or he wouldnt of went. Ignorance killed Ahaziah. Not knowing what your walking into is a dangerous thing. This is why we have to prepare ourselves with the word and prayer before we go.

  8. 12 And he was with them hid in the house of God six years: and Athaliah reigned over the land.

There is safety in the Father’s House. When a child is in harm most of the time they will run to the father. The father represents safety. This is true also in our Spiritual walk. When we are in trouble we run to the alter and ask the Father to help us. THere is safety in the Father’s House.

  9. 3 He also walked in the ways of the house of Ahab: for his mother was his counsellor to do wickedly.

God forbid if we raise our children to do wicked. We need to teach our children the values of praying, reading God’s word and teaching our children to respect the church their leaders and foremost respect their elders and the man of God that is over their life. Our children are gonna act and talk like their parents do. Never sit around the dinner table and discuss things that your children don’t need to hear.

Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it. Proverbs 22:6
As much as we as parents want to admit no child is perfect. They all need teaching on how to handle life situations.

  10. Momma’s Boy…
There is extra care given in this chapter to highlight Ahaziah’s relationship with his mother.
As Pastor has mentioned lately, be careful who your counselors are. They will not only be the people whispering in your ear but will become known by who they are also. Verses 3,4, and 5 all mention who Ahaziah’s councilors were. Lord, help us to make wise, informed decisions on who we allow to speak into our lives and who we listen to in times of decision.

  11. NLT 3 Ahaziah also followed the evil example of King Ahab’s family, for his mother encouraged him in doing wrong.

When God is not taught in your house, you look to the example your parents provide. Children only do as to what they see in the household. God, I pray to always set a Godly example for my children!

  12. The power of a woman’s influence. I often hear this referenced in marriages but this chapter illustrates 2 women and the effects they had. Athaliah the mother of ahaziah influenced her son to do wickedly and much like the proverbs tell us of wickedness his life was cut off. Afterwards her influence led to the slaughter of all her grandsons save one and put her in power.

Jehoshabeath on the other hand used her influence to save the life of the one last heir to the throne. She ultimately had nothing to gain for herself aside from death possibly if caught. Her decision and influence would later restore the kingdom.

Both women used the influences they had to effect the lives around them. One a kings mother and the other his sister both driven by different things regardless of family. In the end it goes to show that we should be careful who we allow to influence us because whatever is influencing them/us will reveal itself in time. Will it reveal death or life?

  13. 3 He also walked in the ways of the house of Ahab: for his mother was his counsellor to do wickedly.

4 Wherefore he did evil in the sight of the Lord like the house of Ahab: for they were his counsellors after the death of his father to his destruction.

5 He walked also after their counsel, and went with Jehoram the son of Ahab king of Israel to war against Hazael king of Syria at Ramothgilead: and the Syrians smote Joram.

    EXAMPLE, EXAMPLE, EXAMPLE!!!!!!!
Children are learning by what they see and hear at home.
The bible says To train up a child. If you are training your child to do wickedness then that’s what they will do.
Our children need to be children of the light, and not of darkness!

  14. 1 But Jehoshabeath, the daughter of the king, took Joash the son of Ahaziah, and stole him from among the king’s sons that were slain, and put him and his nurse in a bedchamber.

It was the foresight of this woman that saved the life of the next king – Joash. She intervened in a troubled situation and went above and beyond the call of duty to protect and keep this child until his appointed time. What are we doing with the children God has brought to POFW, not just child aged children, but the new babes that are being birthed into the kingdom? Are we interceding for them in prayer? Protecting them from the wrath of the enemy? Guarding them so that they can become joint heirs in the Kingdom of God? Everyone must take spiritual responsibility not only for our natural families, but the family that we are part of in the Kingdom. It’s everyone’s duty to see that our babies are given the opportunity to grow be all Jesus wants them to be. If Jehosphabeath would have only been concerned with herself, Joash would have been slain and never ruled as a Godly king. Who will intervene for them in the spirit?

    Counsellor

    2 Chr 22:3 – 3
3 He also walked in the ways of the house of Ahab: for his mother was his counsellor to do wickedly.

    Counsellor Hebrew 3289
    יעץ

    Pronunciation
    ya`ats

A primitive root; to advise; reflexively to deliberate or resolve:–advertise, take advice, advise (well), consult, (give take) counsel (-lor), determine, devise, guide, purpose.

THANK THE LORD THAT OUR KING IS NOT INFLUENCED BY UNWISE COUNSEL…BUT HE IS “THE” COUNSELLOR .

    • For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. (Isaiah 9:6 KJV)

  16. In this scripture, is one of the most important statements you could probably could find. “Hid in the House of God”. Wow…if we can only influence a few to come to church. There’s no telling how many would be saved. Remember, a wise man sows multiple seeds, so keep sowing those seeds, “Sow & Reap”, it’s Harvest Time, make that impact and win those souls for Christ Jesus. Keep inviting them to Church. Don’t give up. “I’m not, and don’t fret with the results, if they come or not but “invite”, let Jesus take care of the rest.”

But, lets keep ourselves hid in God’s House……..

    Psalms 12:5
For the oppression of the poor, for the sighing of the needy, now will I arise, saith the LORD; I will set him in safety from him that puffeth at him.

    Isaiah 56:7
Even them will I bring to my holy mountain, and make them joyful in my house of prayer: their burnt offerings and their sacrifices shall be accepted upon mine altar; for mine house shall be called an house of prayer for all people.

    Mark 11:17
And he taught, saying unto them, Is it not written, My house shall be called of all nations the house of prayer? but ye have made it a den of thieves.

    2 Chronicles 7:12
And the LORD appeared to Solomon by night, and said unto him, I have heard thy prayer, and have chosen this place to myself for an house of sacrifice.

    2 Chronicles 6:20
That thine eyes may be open upon this house day and night, upon the place whereof thou hast said that thou wouldest put thy name there; to hearken unto the prayer which thy servant prayeth toward this place.

    2 Samuel 7:27
For thou, O LORD of hosts, God of Israel, hast revealed to thy servant, saying, I will build thee an house: therefore hath thy servant found in his heart to pray this prayer unto thee.

Just to name a few excellent reasons to hang out with God in his House of Prayer…….”It’s good to hang out in Daddy’s House.”

    “Be Church”….iwork…igive…ipray…ireap….”Harvest Time”…………

  17. Sorry, here’s another one, in which goes with our Proverb reading…Humm…I wonder how that worked out.

    Proverbs Chapter 12
The wicked are overthrown, and are not: but the house of the righteous shall stand.

  18. 12 And he was with them hid in the house of God six years: and Athaliah reigned over the land.

The Lord is my strength, my shield, and my refuge in a very present time of need…
When we have done all we can, and there is trouble all around us, if we can seek Jesus and seek refuge in Him, he will provide. While all around is chaos, Jesus will be our peace…
Revelations tells us of the mark of the beast and the anti-Christ ruling the world, just as Athaliah wrongly ruled over the lands, if we seek our refuge in Christ and His church, He will provide…

  19. 3 He also walked in the ways of the house of Ahab: for his mother was his counsellor to do wickedly.
It matters how to train your children…
We see in this verse that his mother counciled him to to wickedly and to sin and thats what he did. As parents we must remember that we influence our children good or bad and we must be examples of how to live in front of them so they will walk with God and not give themselves to the world.

  20. 7 And the destruction of Ahaziah was of God by coming to Joram: for when he was come, he went out with Jehoram against Jehu the son of Nimshi, whom the Lord had anointed to cut off the house of Ahab.

This tells me to be careful of my actions. God could anoint someone to cut me off if I follow the path of this wicked king.

  21. 12 And he was with them hid in the house of God six years: and Athaliah reigned over the land.

The Lord is my refuge and my fortress. I can run into him and be safe.

And there shall be a tabernacle for a shadow in the daytime from the heat, and for a place of refuge, and for a covert from storm and from rain. -Isaiah 4:6

  22. He also walked in the ways of the house of Ahab: for his mother was his counsellor to do wickedly.

4 Wherefore he did evil in the sight of the Lord like the house of Ahab: for they were his counsellors after the death of his father to his destruction.

Counsellors to his destruction. What evil there is in the world, and we think that WE live in perilous times. When the Kings of the world are this wicked, nations (multitudes) of people are detroyed. But by the grace of God, a godly King will arise and turn the hearts of the people back to God, and multitudes are saved! ONE young man(youth)-raised in God’s house- made a difference in his generation. Think what MANY of our youth-raised in God’s house- can do to turn THIS generation around.

Parents must become counsellors to their children-teaching, training, guiding and also watching the direction their children are taking. Merely bringing a child to church does not guarantee that the child is learning God’s ways! Parents must take an active role in church as well as at home to make sure that their children are growing in God.

  23. Remember our offspring will likely reflect our life, so make sure that we are a reflection of GOD to them. They are great imitators.
    Model godliness. Phil.3:12-17

  24. 11 But Jehoshabeath, the daughter of the king, took Joash the son of Ahaziah, and stole him away from among the king’s sons who were being murdered, and put him and his nurse in a bedroom. So Jehoshabeath, the daughter of King Jehoram, the wife of Jehoiada the priest (for she was the sister of Ahaziah), hid him from Athaliah so that she did not kill him. 12 And he was hidden with them in the house of God for six years NKJV

These verses remind me of individuals who are freshly filled with the Holy Ghost and baptized in Jesus’ Name. The enemy (Athaliah) is trying to take them out and the church must cultivate an “Jehoshabeath Attitude”. This type of attitude will stop at nothing to pull souls out of hell’s fire. We also see that this infant needed a nurse which could equal a friend, a priest which is Pastor, and church which is POFW. Through prayer, bible studies and fellowship we can hide from the fiery darts of the enemy and make strong and mighty disciples.

    Acts 2:42-47

42 And they continued stedfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.
43 And fear came upon every soul: and many wonders and signs were done by the apostles.
    44 And all that believed were together, and had all things common;
45 And sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all men, as every man had need.
46 And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart,
47 Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.

  25. Praise God he will always make a way when there is no way. So much wickedness and disobedience went on but God used someone else to do his will.

Lord use me to bring lost souls into your house Lord, may your will be done.

  26. look at how your counsel is

3 He also walked in the ways of the house of Ahab: for his mother was his counsellor to do wickedly.

if his father was just killed because he was going in the same sinful ways as Ahab the this 42 year old man should have known that his father’s ways should not be his ways. he was taken out quick by God. it says that he was the ruler for one year. That is quick out of office. Many times God gives time for correction. With this king he did not allow alot of time for him to get his act together. God saw that at 42 he was like his father and following his mother’s advice that was leading him more in the direction of his father so God took him out.

  27. Jehoshabeath (Jehosheba)

Jehoshabeath is called Jehosheba in 2Ki 11:2, and interestingly enough Ahaziah’s (bad king) sister. She could have been the daughter of Athalia, but its more likely that she’s Jehoram’s daughter by an unrecorded wife. Either way she was the wife of Jehoiada, a true priest of God (vs14), which suggests that she herself was faithful to God. The priesthood of Jehoshabeath’s husband undoubtedly made keenly aware of the need to rescue Joash from his grandmother Athalia’s murderous spree. The house of the Lord ‘temple’ posed a perfect place for protection and an environment necessary for the boy to prepare for future service as king, by learning how to worship and follow the King of Kings. By rescuing Joash Jehoshabeath became God’s instrument in His plan to keep His promise that the son of David would always be king and part of the lineage of the Messiah. She risked her neck to save the life of an innocent child marked for death. Anytime we bring someone to the Lord, we are rescuing them we are pulling them out of the pit and showing them life, ‘and life more abundantly’ with Jesus (John 10:10).

  28. Protecting the Foundation

The Lord is proving that he will keep His promises even when it seems the enemy has destroyed its foundation. Sons were that foundation of government and worship, Athalia was hell bent on destroying that bloodline and establishing herself as queen mother of Judah instead. Her plan worked for a little while as the young king was being taught up. As soon as he was mature enough Jehoiada the priest of God, saw that Joash was the only solution to stop Athalia’s wicked reign, and restore Israel to God. In contrast Pharoah tried to destroy Israelites baby boys (Moses), and Herod tried to destroy the king of the Jews (Jesus). These wicked powers attempted, destroyed and at the end were not successful, such is the same here. Joash is now ready to be declared and annointed king. The only thing lying in the way is his crazy grandmother, so Jehoiada comissions all the Levites who work in the temple on duty, and about to come in, to go to war with David’s equiptment which had been in the temple. Weapons in which the Lord granted David victory in battle. That is so cool to read. Those blessings God annointed David with was flowing in his bloodline and his 6th generational grandson Joash is about to be annointed king under the protection of the priests and the Levites with 1/3 at the kings house, 1/3 at the temple doors, 1/3 at the Gate of the Foundation. Literally protecting the Foundation! All the people are to be at the courts of the house of the Lord except for the those priests and Levites who are arranged to serve. These men of God were prepared for battle physically, and spiritually as well for after Joash was annoited they began to rejoice, blowing trumpets, and also the singers with musical instruments, and those who lead in praise.Of course they declared war and the enemy spirit heard it (vs 12) and she was taken outside the temple and slayed. Defeated is the enemy when we rely on God and follow His Will, physically and spiritually.

To sidetrack a bit…I believe Jehoiada and Pastor Watts have alot in common here, both follow God’s Word flawlessly in battle, and both reach out and teach up those who have been refugeed/survivors of the enemy to redeem them to the Lord, annoint the Lord’s leaders and ministers for service in the house of the Lord, praise with everything they’ve got, even weapons used in victorious battles past for the victory…and I can go on and on. Thank you Jesus, for a pastor that models the example of such righteous priests in Scripture. Thank you for protecting the Foundation.

  29. The Son of a King

9 And he sought Ahaziah: and they caught him, (for he was hid in Samaria,) and brought him to Jehu: and when they had slain him, they buried him: Because, said they, he is the son of Jehoshaphat, who sought the Lord with all his heart. So the house of Ahaziah had no power to keep still the kingdom.

It says a lot about Jehu that he could honor a fallen son of a righteous king, even if for the sake of the father.

Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted. Bear ye one another’s burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ. (Galatians 6:1, 2 KJV)

And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins. (1 Peter 4:8 KJV)

How far can we let love go?
