2 Chronicles 23

1 And in the seventh year Jehoiada strengthened himself, and took the captains of hundreds, Azariah the son of Jeroham, and Ishmael the son of Jehohanan, and Azariah the son of Obed, and Maaseiah the son of Adaiah, and Elishaphat the son of Zichri, into covenant with him.

And they went about in Judah, and gathered the Levites out of all the cities of Judah, and the chief of the fathers of Israel, and they came to Jerusalem.

And all the congregation made a covenant with the king in the house of God. And he said unto them, Behold, the king’s son shall reign, as the Lord hath said of the sons of David.

This is the thing that ye shall do; A third part of you entering on the sabbath, of the priests and of the Levites, shall be porters of the doors;

And a third part shall be at the king’s house; and a third part at the gate of the foundation: and all the people shall be in the courts of the house of the Lord.

But let none come into the house of the Lord, save the priests, and they that minister of the Levites; they shall go in, for they are holy: but all the people shall keep the watch of the Lord.

And the Levites shall compass the king round about, every man with his weapons in his hand; and whosoever else cometh into the house, he shall be put to death: but be ye with the king when he cometh in, and when he goeth out.

So the Levites and all Judah did according to all things that Jehoiada the priest had commanded, and took every man his men that were to come in on the sabbath, with them that were to go out on the sabbath: for Jehoiada the priest dismissed not the courses.

Moreover Jehoiada the priest delivered to the captains of hundreds spears, and bucklers, and shields, that had been king David’s, which were in the house of God.

10 And he set all the people, every man having his weapon in his hand, from the right side of the temple to the left side of the temple, along by the altar and the temple, by the king round about.

11 Then they brought out the king’s son, and put upon him the crown, and gave him the testimony, and made him king. And Jehoiada and his sons anointed him, and said, God save the king.

12 Now when Athaliah heard the noise of the people running and praising the king, she came to the people into the house of the Lord:

13 And she looked, and, behold, the king stood at his pillar at the entering in, and the princes and the trumpets by the king: and all the people of the land rejoiced, and sounded with trumpets, also the singers with instruments of musick, and such as taught to sing praise. Then Athaliah rent her clothes, and said, Treason, Treason.

14 Then Jehoiada the priest brought out the captains of hundreds that were set over the host, and said unto them, Have her forth of the ranges: and whoso followeth her, let him be slain with the sword. For the priest said, Slay her not in the house of the Lord.

15 So they laid hands on her; and when she was come to the entering of the horse gate by the king’s house, they slew her there.

16 And Jehoiada made a covenant between him, and between all the people, and between the king, that they should be the Lord’s people.

17 Then all the people went to the house of Baal, and brake it down, and brake his altars and his images in pieces, and slew Mattan the priest of Baal before the altars.

18 Also Jehoiada appointed the offices of the house of theLord by the hand of the priests the Levites, whom David had distributed in the house of the Lord, to offer the burnt offerings of the Lord, as it is written in the law of Moses, with rejoicing and with singing, as it was ordained by David.

19 And he set the porters at the gates of the house of theLord, that none which was unclean in any thing should enter in.

20 And he took the captains of hundreds, and the nobles, and the governors of the people, and all the people of the land, and brought down the king from the house of theLord: and they came through the high gate into the king’s house, and set the king upon the throne of the kingdom.

21 And all the people of the land rejoiced: and the city was quiet, after that they had slain Athaliah with the sword.

  1. v21 And all the people of the land rejoiced: and the city was quiet, after that they had slain Athaliah with the sword.

Heb.4:12 The sword is a two edged as it cuts the head of our adversary, it also reveals areas in our life that are in need of repentance.

The light of the righteous rejoiceth: but the lamp of the wicked shall be put out.

  2. v4 This is the thing that ye shall do; A third part of you entering on the sabbath, of the priests and of the Levites, shall be porters of the door.

Guard the door the enterance to our hearts. It’s whats inside of us that makes us rise and fall.
It’s been said,” That all the water around the boat doesn’t bother us. It’s the water inside that will.”

We must allow GOD to filter everything that comes into our hearts through HIS RIGHTEOUSNESS and discern both good and evil. What we allow into our heart could corrupt our testimony.

Thank the LORD HE has given us weapons to guard our testimony. We have HIS NAME, HIS SPIRIT, HIS BLOOD, and HIS WORD.
v 7 Every man with his weapons in his hand;”
Our praise and worship belong to the LORD.

As Athaliah was suddenly judged, so shall the LORD return suddenly to judge this world.
He, that being often reproved hardeneth his neck, shall suddenly be destroyed, and that without remedy. Proverbs 29:1 & Prov.13:13

  3. Jehoshabeath (Jehosheba)

Jehoshabeath is called Jehosheba in 2Ki 11:2, and interestingly enough Ahaziah’s (bad king) sister. She could have been the daughter of Athalia, but its more likely that she’s Jehoram’s daughter by an unrecorded wife. Either way she was the wife of Jehoiada, a true priest of God (vs14), which suggests that she herself was faithful to God. The priesthood of Jehoshabeath’s husband undoubtedly made keenly aware of the need to rescue Joash from his grandmother Athalia’s murderous spree. The house of the Lord ‘temple’ posed a perfect place for protection and an environment necessary for the boy to prepare for future service as king, by learning how to worship and follow the King of Kings. By rescuing Joash Jehoshabeath became God’s instrument in His plan to keep His promise that the son of David would always be king and part of the lineage of the Messiah. She risked her neck to save the life of an innocent child marked for death. Anytime we bring someone to the Lord, we are rescuing them we are pulling them out of the pit and showing them life, ‘and life more abundantly’ with Jesus (John 10:10).

  4. Protecting the Foundation

The Lord is proving that he will keep His promises even when it seems the enemy has destroyed its foundation. Sons were that foundation of government and worship, Athalia was hell bent on destroying that bloodline and establishing herself as queen mother of Judah instead. Her plan worked for a little while as the young king was being taught up. As soon as he was mature enough Jehoiada the priest of God, saw that Joash was the only solution to stop Athalia’s wicked reign, and restore Israel to God. In contrast Pharoah tried to destroy Israelites baby boys (Moses), and Herod tried to destroy the king of the Jews (Jesus). These wicked powers attempted, destroyed and at the end were not successful, such is the same here. Joash is now ready to be declared and annointed king. The only thing lying in the way is his crazy grandmother, so Jehoiada comissions all the Levites who work in the temple on duty, and about to come in, to go to war with David’s equiptment which had been in the temple. Weapons in which the Lord granted David victory in battle. That is so cool to read. Those blessings God annointed David with was flowing in his bloodline and his 6th generational grandson Joash is about to be annointed king under the protection of the priests and the Levites with 1/3 at the kings house, 1/3 at the temple doors, 1/3 at the Gate of the Foundation. Literally protecting the Foundation! All the people are to be at the courts of the house of the Lord except for the those priests and Levites who are arranged to serve. These men of God were prepared for battle physically, and spiritually as well for after Joash was annoited they began to rejoice, blowing trumpets, and also the singers with musical instruments, and those who lead in praise.Of course they declared war and the enemy spirit heard it (vs 12) and she was taken outside the temple and slayed. Defeated is the enemy when we rely on God and follow His Will, physically and spiritually.

To sidetrack a bit…I believe Jehoiada and Pastor Watts have alot in common here, both follow God’s Word flawlessly in battle, and both reach out and teach up those who have been refugeed/survivors of the enemy to redeem them to the Lord, annoint the Lord’s leaders and ministers for service in the house of the Lord, praise with everything they’ve got, even weapons used in victorious battles past for the victory…and I can go on and on. Thank you Jesus, for a pastor that models the example of such righteous priests in Scripture. Thank you for protecting the Foundation.

  5. ILove to eat breakfast with Jesus

It Took a Team to Take Down the Queen

Everyone worked together…Everyone obeyed the voice of the priest…Everyone got in their place…and most importantly, when it was time to send up praise, everyone lifted up praise… And because of their UNITY, the spirit of the PANTHER fell…

    WHAT A CONCEPT.

  6. Show me who you hang with and I’ll tell you who you are!!!!!

Who do you surround yourself with? Who stands by you? Will they pass the test of storms and time? or Will they at the first sign of trouble run away. I love to come to church because I am surrounded by my Bro. & Sis who always carry their weapon and at the sign of trouble they are ready to stand by me in battle. Ready to get on their knees with me and lift me up when I fall.

2 And they went about in Judah, and gathered the Levites out of all the cities of Judah, and the chief of the fathers of Israel, and they came to Jerusalem.

3 And all the congregation made a covenant with the king in the house of God. And he said unto them, Behold, the king’s son shall reign, as the Lord hath said of the sons of David.

    4 This is the thing that ye shall do; A third part of you entering on the sabbath, of the priests and of the Levites, shall be porters of the doors;

5 And a third part shall be at the king’s house; and a third part at the gate of the foundation: and all the people shall be in the courts of the house of the Lord.

6 But let none come into the house of the Lord, save the priests, and they that minister of the Levites; they shall go in, for they are holy: but all the people shall keep the watch of the Lord.

7 And the Levites shall compass the king round about, every man with his weapons in his hand; and whosoever else cometh into the house, he shall be put to death: but be ye with the king when he cometh in, and when he goeth out.

8 So the Levites and all Judah did according to all things that Jehoiada the priest had commanded, and took every man his men that were to come in on the sabbath, with them that were to go out on the sabbath: for Jehoiada the priest dismissed not the courses.

9 Moreover Jehoiada the priest delivered to the captains of hundreds spears, and bucklers, and shields, that had been king David’s, which were in the house of God.

10 And he set all the people, every man having his weapon in his hand, from the right side of the temple to the left side of the temple, along by the altar and the temple, by the king round about.

We serve @ POFW the same way, some at the door, some at the desk, some @ the inner door, some at attendance, some at the platform, and some among the congregation. Ready to serve, ready to pray, ready to intercept in prayer, some ready for battle, many with sickles on their hands ready for harvest.

  7. “This is the thing that ye shall do”

The people were given duties/opportunities to server the kingdom. They were gathered in groups by thirds. 1 – Porters at the doors, 2 – at the Kings house and 3 – at the gate of the foundation. Every man had his weapon as they “compass the King about. In other words, the King was surrounded by people who knew their purpose and were prepared to defend and protect the King. The scriptures states they every man had his weapon in his hand.

While we may not have physical weapons, guns, knives, etc… we do have the most powerful weapon every created. Our Sword. It is sharper than any two edged sword!! We must remain prepared and vigilant to stand in the gap for our Pastor and his family. If the devil can distract our Pastor, the flock will scatter.

    Stand strong POFWians!!!

  8. THE BLESSING OF TRUSTING AND OBEYING THE PROPHET

8 So the Levites and all Judah did according to all things that Jehoiada the priest had commanded, and took every man his men that were to come in on the sabbath, with them that were to go out on the sabbath: for Jehoiada the priest dismissed not the courses.

The MSG version begins Chapter 23 with these words “In the seventh year the priest Jehoiada decided to make his move and worked out a strategy with certain influential officers in the army.” Every man of GOD knows the blessings of GOD are directly connected to submission and obedience to the Words of GOD that are spoken. Making a change requires courage, determination and risk, however one of the most important factors is strategy and participation by influential people.

At The POFW we have been BLESSED, we are BLESSED and I believe GOD has more abundant BLESSINGS for us. I also know that for all the LORD has for to be fulfilled we must TRUST and OBEY every WORD our GOD speaks to us. We witness in chapter 23 the process of change.

A new king, a courageous prophet, and some faithful people revived some old promises and restored the people of Israel through restoring proper order in the TEMPLE. They put out “THE WICKED WITCH” then they destroyed the idols; “17 The people poured into the temple of Baal and tore it down, smashing altar and images to smithereens. They killed Mattan the priest of Baal in front of the altar. MSG”

    They then REJOICED! iReap

Rejoicing and Singing are the signs of a VICTORIOUS Church!

21 And all the people of the land rejoiced:

When the Church rejoices in VICTORY the land has HOPE. A VICTORIOUS people make a VICTORIOUS Church! TRUST and OBEY today.

There is an ARMY rising up!

  10. I thank the Lord for people to keep me protected from this wicked generation with encouraging words of wisdom cause I know it comes from the Lord of all.

This is my scripture for the day. Thank u pof

  11. The priest took charge-as he should-and organized the congregation and the Levites to see righteousness restored to the kingdom. This was no small feat, but with godly Levites and priests and a wiling heart of the people, much was accomplished. Unity overcame great evil under the guidance of a great man of God.

God has raised up a great man of God for the region of Ft. Worth who is now organizing the congregation with the help of ministers and the willing hearts of people. This is no small feat either, but with our unity and by following the leading of our Pastor, this region will gather souls and fulfill prophecy that has been spoken over it years ago!

The region from Witchita Falls to Waco to Abilene & back to Witchita Falls is a region that has had much prayer sown into it- for many years -and the seeds of revival have been sown here. With the help of the Lord and the leading of our Pastor, POFW will be the epicenter of a mighty revival of thousands and thousands of souls! Follow Pastor, buy into his vision for this region because the time to gather what the reapers have prepared is here. God is up to something! iWork, iPray, iGive, iReap!

  12. There is not a job to small or to big to do for the kingdom of God at POFW. Like it has been said we need to have unity and work together for the kingdom.

  13. 21 And all the people of the land rejoiced: and the city was quiet, after that they had slain Athaliah with the sword.

Order was brought back to the land by the King. It was necessary for them to slay Athaliah, because of the evil that she allowed and participated in during her reign.

When we bring order into our life, by aligning it with the Word of God and the attitudes and actions of God, there are things in our lives that we must slay: Carnality, selfish, self-righteousness, disobedience, lack of submission. All of these things must be crucified and put to death. There seems to always be a struggle, “when I would do good, evil is present,” but the more we can kill of our carnal nature and carnal ways, the greater the victory.

Lord, You reign in my life, every part, every area, I surrender to you!

  14. ILove to eat lunch with Jesus

    Keep the Junk Out

19 And he set the porters at the gates of the house of theLord, that none which was unclean in any thing should enter in.

Every service that we have in the house of God, we need to set angelic porters at the doors forbidding unclean spirits from entering. Spirits have blinded the people for too long. If we make intercession and bind demonic spirits at the door, people will be able to make a clear decision without being hindered.

  15. 16 And Jehoiada made a covenant between him, and between all the people, and between the king, that they should be the Lord’s people.
17 Then all the people went to the house of Baal, and brake it down, and brake his altars and his images in pieces, and slew Mattan the priest of Baal before the altars.

There is a hungry, hurting world all around us waiting on us to stand up and lead them with authority to Christ, and teach them how they should be living too. They are just scared of what it might cost….

  16. Loose Ends

21 And all the people of the land rejoiced: and the city was quiet, after that they had slain Athaliah with the sword.

Athaliah was the daughter of Ahab and the infamous Jezebel. There is much to be learned about Athaliah simply by studying her mother and the great wickedness she lived by and the spirits she entertained. Previously in this timeline, there was the dramatic overthrow of Jezebel by God at the hand of Jehu. There was a shifting of power, yet there remained some loose ends, namely in the form of Athaliah. She continued her parent’s lineage of evil, specifically her mother’s deep wickedness, and she (like her mother) was keen on *taking* what didn’t belong to her (authority, power, etc) to get what she wanted.

It seems to me like a warning for us to be cautious concerning the working of the enemy. Just because we see victory in one area doesn’t mean that the battle is over everywhere. Had righteousness stopped with overcoming Ahab and Jezebel, then Athaliah would have had free course to do as she pleased. This “loose end” needed to be taken care of.

Proverbs 29:2 “When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn.”

Genesis 1:28 “And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.”

The devil would want to intimidate the church from taking the dominion that God has commanded us to have. For the righteous to be in authority, we have to stand up and claim it and walk in it. The spirit of Jezebel likes to operate by finding “loose authority” that is not being claimed so she can claim it for herself and usurp leadership, and so did Athaliah until she too was stopped. The church must walk in the power and authority of God, which hinges on us walking in our identity as children of the King of kings and Lord of lords. The devil would like to keep us deceived from seeing who we truly are in God so that we will not stand in authority but leave it “loose” for his taking.

    Ephesians 4:27
Neither give place to the devil.

    iOvercome

  17. In this scripture, you can see the importance “to save”, to save the priests, and they that minister. As a member of the choir, “I second this motion”, and save our preist/Pastor, and all it’s ministers. Another Key factor is they shall go in, for they are holy, and keep watch….Yeah.

As a parent, there’s no greater honor than to see your child, annoited & appointed, to serve the Lord. “You go Kids”……”Pass the Paton Parents”

11 Then they brought out the king’s son, and put upon him the crown, and gave him the testimony, and made him king. And Jehoiada and his sons anointed him, and said, God save the king.

Although, in the following vs. it brings to light a different meaning to my hospitality position at the Church. I’m going to have look a little closer when I’m assigned the Foyer Door from now on! Hmmm……It stops here in Jesus Name..the Blood covers the door entrance, Amen.

19 And he set the porters at the gates of the house of theLord, that none which was unclean in any thing should enter in.

    “Be Church”….iwork…igive…ipray…ireap……..

  18. Slay Athaliah

The actions of the Kingdom brought forth the judgment of God in the form of a wicked ruler over the people. Yet, now the people turn back to God and must make the decision to rid the land of Athaliah, and her demonic influence.

This shows what follows true repentance. When people return to God, there must not only be sorrow, and apology, but a ridding of the wickedness, and the influences that cause this.

Only when this is removed can the righteous king reign.

  19. 17 Then all the people went to the house of Baal, and brake it down, and brake his altars and his images in pieces, and slew Mattan the priest of Baal before the altars.

The preacher ensured that the king returned to the throne and the people removed those things that were contrary to the word.

For thou shalt worship no other god: for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God: -Exodus 34:14

Then the children of Israel did put away Baalim and Ashtaroth, and served the LORD only. -1 Samuel 7:4

  20. And the Levites shall compass the king round about, every man with his weapons in his hand; and whosoever else cometh into the house, he shall be put to death: but be ye with the king when he cometh in, and when he goeth out.

What will you stand and fight for?

  21. 19 And he set the porters at the gates of the house of theLord, that none which was unclean in any thing should enter in.
These porters worked as spiritual “bouncers” they allowed the righteous ones to come in and rejected the unclean. Today the church invites everyone to come in “just as you are” but when you leave you should be changed by the power of God.

  22. The Levites were a choosen people to protect the king in this case. God placed them in a position where they could benifit someone else. If God puts you there then you don’t have to worry about how you are going to do it, just make it done. In this situaiton the Levites were not only called, but they were supplied as well. Think about it. God won’t send you somewhere there is no provision.

  23. And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD. Josjua 24:15

We see the people lay aside their own ambitions to follow the destiny of the Lord. It was not the will of God for them to serve other gods. Once someine made in their mind “im serving God and if you want to be apart of this team your going to serve God too, the devil was in trouble.

The same goes for our church and our homes. We can follow their example and protect the man of God and the priest of the home with our weapons of prayer, the Word, and fasting. We can also examine our lives, relationships, and homes; and if there is unrighteousness there let us take it out of the temple of God and kill it.
Alignment with the Word and unity in the body of Christ brings great blessings. There is not stopping us.

  24. 21 And all the people of the land rejoiced: and the city was quiet, after that they had slain Athaliah with the sword.

Seems like the enemy is always made to be quiet with joyful praise and the Word of God. This scripture allows us to see how important it is to “Eat This Book” and to rejoice in the Lord always.

    Phil. 4:4-5 AMP
4 Rejoice in the Lord always [delight, gladden yourselves in Him]; again I say, Rejoice!

5 Let all men know and perceive and recognize your unselfishness (your considerateness, your forbearing spirit).

  25. 16 And Jehoiada made a covenant between him, and between all the people, and between the king, that they should be the Lord’s people.

Three things happened in this scripture, first Jehoiada made a promise to God, next he determined not to serve the lord by himself but instead he promised the community to God. His final step was obligating the king, or leaders of the community to serve God. The king and the people did not make a commitment themselves, instead the man of God made a commitment for them. Maybe it’s time we took some authority and instead of inviting them to church, let them know we have committed themtonserve God.

  26. This chapter illustrates victory. Athaliah’s attempt to reign was interrupted by Jehoiada and the people, for it was God’s will; “Behold, the king’s son shall reign, as the Lord hath said of the sons of David.” One must never forget that although it may appear all hope is gone, one can rest assured if Jesus said it then it will happen. One must trust the Lord and be patient, for the victory will happen in God’s time. May the good Lord Bless you all in Jesus name, Amen

  27. 19 And he set the porters at the gates of the house of theLord, that none which was unclean in any thing should enter in.

We must put down whatever is hindering us from giving God our best praise at the door. Just as the unclean could not enter in, so must the things of this life be. We put down all our burdens on the Lord and he will give you strength. Let go and let God.
