2 Chronicles 25

1 Amaziah was twenty and five years old when he began to reign, and he reigned twenty and nine years in Jerusalem. And his mother’s name was Jehoaddan of Jerusalem.

And he did that which was right in the sight of the Lord, but not with a perfect heart.

Now it came to pass, when the kingdom was established to him, that he slew his servants that had killed the king his father.

But he slew not their children, but did as it is written in the law in the book of Moses, where the Lord commanded, saying, The fathers shall not die for the children, neither shall the children die for the fathers, but every man shall die for his own sin.

Moreover Amaziah gathered Judah together, and made them captains over thousands, and captains over hundreds, according to the houses of their fathers, throughout all Judah and Benjamin: and he numbered them from twenty years old and above, and found them three hundred thousand choice men, able to go forth to war, that could handle spear and shield.

He hired also an hundred thousand mighty men of valour out of Israel for an hundred talents of silver.

But there came a man of God to him, saying, O king, let not the army of Israel go with thee; for the Lord is not with Israel, to wit, with all the children of Ephraim.

But if thou wilt go, do it; be strong for the battle: God shall make thee fall before the enemy: for God hath power to help, and to cast down.

And Amaziah said to the man of God, But what shall we do for the hundred talents which I have given to the army of Israel? And the man of God answered, The Lord is able to give thee much more than this.

10 Then Amaziah separated them, to wit, the army that was come to him out of Ephraim, to go home again: wherefore their anger was greatly kindled against Judah, and they returned home in great anger.

11 And Amaziah strengthened himself, and led forth his people, and went to the valley of salt, and smote of the children of Seir ten thousand.

12 And other ten thousand left alive did the children of Judah carry away captive, and brought them unto the top of the rock, and cast them down from the top of the rock, that they all were broken in pieces.

13 But the soldiers of the army which Amaziah sent back, that they should not go with him to battle, fell upon the cities of Judah, from Samaria even unto Bethhoron, and smote three thousand of them, and took much spoil.

14 Now it came to pass, after that Amaziah was come from the slaughter of the Edomites, that he brought the gods of the children of Seir, and set them up to be his gods, and bowed down himself before them, and burned incense unto them.

15 Wherefore the anger of the Lord was kindled against Amaziah, and he sent unto him a prophet, which said unto him, Why hast thou sought after the gods of the people, which could not deliver their own people out of thine hand?

16 And it came to pass, as he talked with him, that the king said unto him, Art thou made of the king’s counsel? forbear; why shouldest thou be smitten? Then the prophet forbare, and said, I know that God hath determined to destroy thee, because thou hast done this, and hast not hearkened unto my counsel.

17 Then Amaziah king of Judah took advice, and sent to Joash, the son of Jehoahaz, the son of Jehu, king of Israel, saying, Come, let us see one another in the face.

18 And Joash king of Israel sent to Amaziah king of Judah, saying, The thistle that was in Lebanon sent to the cedar that was in Lebanon, saying, Give thy daughter to my son to wife: and there passed by a wild beast that was in Lebanon, and trode down the thistle.

19 Thou sayest, Lo, thou hast smitten the Edomites; and thine heart lifteth thee up to boast: abide now at home; why shouldest thou meddle to thine hurt, that thou shouldest fall, even thou, and Judah with thee?

20 But Amaziah would not hear; for it came of God, that he might deliver them into the hand of their enemies, because they sought after the gods of Edom.

21 So Joash the king of Israel went up; and they saw one another in the face, both he and Amaziah king of Judah, at Bethshemesh, which belongeth to Judah.

22 And Judah was put to the worse before Israel, and they fled every man to his tent.

23 And Joash the king of Israel took Amaziah king of Judah, the son of Joash, the son of Jehoahaz, at Bethshemesh, and brought him to Jerusalem, and brake down the wall of Jerusalem from the gate of Ephraim to the corner gate, four hundred cubits.

24 And he took all the gold and the silver, and all the vessels that were found in the house of God with Obededom, and the treasures of the king’s house, the hostages also, and returned to Samaria.

25 And Amaziah the son of Joash king of Judah lived after the death of Joash son of Jehoahaz king of Israel fifteen years.

26 Now the rest of the acts of Amaziah, first and last, behold, are they not written in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel?

27 Now after the time that Amaziah did turn away from following the Lord they made a conspiracy against him in Jerusalem; and he fled to Lachish: but they sent to Lachish after him, and slew him there.

28 And they brought him upon horses, and buried him with his fathers in the city of Judah.

  1. Vs 14 We must not look to the god’s of this world but to the on true God. God will bless us only if we follow after him and him alone.

  2. Serving half way

2 And he did that which was right in the sight of the Lord, but not with a perfect heart.

Luke 6:45 A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.

Do not come to me to speak ill about my Pastor, his Wife or any of my Sis & Bro unless you want to bring evil itself into your life. For we need gatherers not scatterers. So choose and choose wisely. Unite unto our mission, see the vision of Ft. Worth serving God, but make sure you give HIM 150% for He don’t like left overs.

    Matt 12:30
He that is not with me is against me; and he that gathereth not with me scattereth abroad.

God wants your ALL, not your half hearted efforts, He wants your best. It is not the same to know the Truth and do the Truth as if to Love the Truth and DO the Truth with LOVE.

You are either with GOD or against HIM. Joshua 24:15 And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.

Remember any negative report is an evil report.

  3. 2 And he did that which was right in the sight of the Lord, but not with a perfect heart.

WOW!!!! This Scripture stood out as soon as I read it.
Doing what is ‘right’, the laws of the land, the rules of the church. As some would say and think in their heart.
I believe a lot of people have this mentality, thinking that they have to live by the rules of the house. But truly have no relationship with GOD!

This is why many people have fallen, and it’s so sad to see and hear that this brother/sister was once a part of POFW and now are no longer with us. They weren’t rooted and grounded in truth, the relationship with Jesus was only a surface relationship. So they have fallen, dried up, and died!
When you truly have developed a relationship with Jesus, it’s in your heart to do what is right, to grow, and to make sure that the intents of your heart will want to be perfect. Why because of the Love, the Reverence, the Honor, you have for your Lord and Saviour.

    Money Can Grow on Trees

9 And Amaziah said to the man of God, But what shall we do for the hundred talents which I have given to the army of Israel? And the man of God answered, The Lord is able to give thee much more than this.

    100 talents was around $7,800,000.

The man of God said it was “The Lord is able to give thee much more than this.”

In Gods kingdom, money can grow on trees.

  5. COUNT THE COST AND CUT THE LOSS

6 He hired also an hundred thousand mighty men of valour out of Israel for an hundred talents of silver.
7 But there came a man of God to him, saying, O king, let not the army of Israel go with thee; for the Lord is not with Israel, to wit, with all the children of Ephraim.
8 But if thou wilt go, do it; be strong for the battle: God shall make thee fall before the enemy: for God hath power to help, and to cast down.
9 And Amaziah said to the man of God, But what shall we do for the hundred talents which I have given to the army of Israel? And the man of God answered, The Lord is able to give thee much more than this.

In he heat of a battle or the midst of a project, frequently a feeling of fear, insecurity or even intimidation will come to us. Speaking lies such as you can’t do it with the resources you have. What if this or that happens? You do not know how many or much is against you.

Most likely these are the thoughts that overwhelmed Amaziah when he felt the need to hire help. However when the man of GOD arrived with the WORD from GOD, Amaziah’s main concern was the investment that he had already made in hiring this help. This word from GOD required Amaziah to COUNT THE COST AND CUT THE LOSS. The COST of losing his army as a result of disobedience or lose the money he had already invested.

I prophesy to somebody reading this TODAY, “forget IT, CUT the LOSS”

***”The Lord is able to give thee much more than this.”***

GOD’s provision is GREATER than man’s PROTECTION.

  6. The wages of sin is death.

What a powerful verse; number two. “He did that which was right in the site of the Lord, but not with a perfect heart.” Good intentions are not enough is the way that reads to me. In reading this chapter, I was just waiting for the “mess-up”, the un-perfect heart to come into play. It did, finally and Amaziah paid with his life. We must heed every word of God; not just those that make us feel good and tickle our ears. Proverbs 30:5 “Every word of God is pure…” We can do it and it will be worth our efforts just to see his face someday!

Sing with me…. “Oh what a day, that will be When my Jesus I shall see, when I look upon his face, the one who saved me by his grace, when he takes me by the hand, and leads me through the promise land, oh what a day glorious day that will be”

  7. This chapter illustrates arrogance. Amaziah listened to the man of God , did what was right and defeated Ephraim. After which he became full of self, worshiped false gods, and was defeated himself. One must be mindful of what the Word of God states, what the man of God teaches, and humble thyself before the Lord. Elsewise if one becomes full of self, one may become as Amaziah. May the good Lord Bless you all in Jesus name, Amen

  8. SUBMISSION AND HUMILITY

Amaziah was faced with a decision, like many of us the lifelong battle between PRIDE and HUMILITY.

HUMILITY is established by SUBMISSION. Amaziah submitted to the words of GOD from the man of GOD and found himself on the sweet side of great VICTORY, just as spoken.

We can learn much from this illustration and demonstration of SUBMISSION AND HUMILITY. While pride screams into our lives to do what we want to do, when we want to do it, a gentle voice of warning from GOD is issuing counsel from GOD.

Proverbs 16:18 Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.

    However

James 4:7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

    The choice is ours.

  9. TRIUMPH AND TRAGEDY 2

Amaiah TRIUMPHED in great VICTORY because of SUBMISSION AND HUMILITY, however like many throughout the ages, including our generation, people everywhere are trading in HUMILITY for PRIDE.

What went wrong for Amaziah is what still goes wrong today.

***Instead of BUILDING AN ALTAR and PRAISING GOD with thanksgiving, he WORSHIPPED the spoil and made idols.***

This is spiritual adultery, it would be like GOD blessing us today with new jobs, cars, houses, or even a relationship and we devote all of our time, talent and treasure into the “spoil” or blessing from GOD.

GOD has BLESSED us so that we may be a BLESSING to others, any other attitude or action will end in TRAGEDY. Regardless of the VICTORIES won have we must be careful to give GOD the honor and glory that is due his great name and continue to seek, trust and obey him.

***Do not allow your BLESSING to become a CURSE***

  10. 15 Wherefore the anger of the Lord was kindled against Amaziah, and he sent unto him a prophet, which said unto him, Why hast thou sought after the gods of the people, which could not deliver their own people out of thine hand?

Why is it that there is so much temptation for those in the church to look outside covenant relationship with God for help? There is such an attack on faith and truth. If we do not believe we have the answer, the great I Am, then we will not truly believe that this world doesn’t have and answer and is lost and dying. Souls are meeting eternal hell fire while we sit and put faith in the world to do for us what only God can. Our faith will never be what it needs to be for true soul-winning unless we *know* we have the Answer and the world doesn’t.

But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost: In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them. For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord; and ourselves your servants for Jesus’ sake. For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. (2 Corinthians 4:3-6 KJV)

  11. 2 And he did that which was right in the sight of the Lord, but not with a perfect heart. KJV

He lived well before God, doing the right thing for the most part. But he wasn’t wholeheartedly devoted to God. MSG

God wants our whole heart to serve him. We have to be wholeheartly with God. If we give God half of our self then what would we do if God only gives us half a blessing?
With good will doing service, as to the Lord, and not to men: Ephesians 6:7
Serving God wholeheartly involves prayer, reading the word, doing the blog, fasting. If we are gonna do the talk we need to do the walk. We say we love God, we need to live it outside the church also.
Serve the LORD with gladness: come before his presence with singing.
    Psalms 100:2

  12. Amaziah followed Joash’s half-hearted obedience to the Lord. He acted in accordance with the Law of the Lord vs3, and “the man of God” (unnamed prophet) vs5-10. The Valley of Salt mentioned in vs11 is located south of the Dead Sea, and the people of Seir were Edomites (of Essau). “Samaria to Beth Horon” designated the northern border of Amaziah’s kingdom (vs13). The attach by the soldiers discharged by Amaziah accounts for Amaziah’s request for war (vs,10,13,17). Even after the warnings from the man of God, and Joash king of Israel telling him to stay at home; “why should you meddle with trouble, that you should fall- you and Judah with you?” (vs19). But Amaziah would not heed, for it came from God, that he might give them into the hand of their enemies, because they sought the gods of Edom. It does us no good to follow some of Gods commandments, or some of his decrees, because He requires that we heed all of them. That we hold our relationship with Him higher than any with man, objects(such as the ‘gods’ mentioned here), fathers, mothers, or sisters or brothers.

Jesus said in Mark 12:28 “..Of all the commandments, which is the most important?” 29“The most important one,” answered Jesus, “is this: ‘Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one.e 30Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’f 31The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’g There is no commandment greater than these.”

In Matt 10:37 He says “If you love your father or mother more than you love me, you are not worthy of being mine; or if you love your son or daughter more than me, you are not worthy of being mine. 38If you refuse to take up your cross and follow me, you are not worthy of being mine. 39If you cling to your life, you will lose it; but if you give up your life for me, you will find it.”

In Revelations 3:15-21He speaks of how the wishy-washy obedience of His children have become “lukewarm” such as Amaziah. He ‘listened’ to the prophetic Word of God thru the “man of God” but did not heed them. Its just like the parable about the ten bridesmaids Jesus mentioned in Matt 25:1-13 to contrast that Amaziah had a chance to turn away from those idols he adopted to replace his relationship with God, just like the virgins had a chance to go with the bridegroom to heaven, but 5 didnt have enough oil “Holy Spirit” to make it. They had some to start off with, but came short at the end. Thank you for the Holy Ghost to prick me when I’m getting off your track. Thank you for allowing me to heed and correcting me when you need to, because you love me and all your children. Rev 3:18 “I counsel you to buy from me gold refined in the fire, so you can become rich; and white clothes to wear, so you can cover your shameful nakedness; and salve to put on your eyes, so you can see. 19Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline. So be earnest, and repent. 20Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me. 21To him who overcomes, I will give the right to sit with me on my throne, just as I overcame and sat down with my Father on his throne. “

  13. Vs 2 And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD, but not with a perfect heart.

Strong’s Definition: From H7999; complete (literally or figuratively); especially friendly. (shalem used by mistake for a name.): – full, just, made ready, peaceable, perfect (-ed), quiet, Shalem [by mistake for a name], whole.

Lord I want a perfect heart.

  14. 2 And he did that which was right in the sight of the Lord, but not with a perfect heart.

Amaziah had good intentions. He walked before the Lord and did what he was supposed to do. He sang in the choir, he praised in the altar, he was involved in every way.

Yet, Amaziah never truly sold out to God. When he came back from the war, he turned his back on God, and fell to spiritual adultery.

His idolatry caused him to come to a tragic end.

His heart was left open, and he gave place to the devil.

We must sell out to God. If even a toenail is in this world we leave ourselves open for attack, and susceptible to a fall.

We should be like the warrior Joshua, and settle in ourselves.

As for me and my house, we shall serve the Lord!

  15. 2 And he did that which was right in the sight of the Lord, but not with a perfect heart.

It is interesting that you can actually do things that are right but your heart not be right about it. You can do things but with the wrong intentions or motives and end up not being pleasing to God. Lord help me to please you but with a perfect heart…

  16. Thou sayest, Lo, thou hast smitten the Edomites; and thine heart lifteth thee up to boast: abide now at home; why shouldest thou meddle to thine hurt, that thou shouldest fall, even thou, and Judah with thee?

Pride comes before a fall. Even though God was not with Israel their king understood this principle. Don’t allow your victories to go to your head and push God out.

  17. 14 Now it came to pass, after that Amaziah was come from the slaughter of the Edomites, that he brought the gods of the children of Seir, and set them up to be his gods, and bowed down himself before them, and burned incense unto them.

15 Wherefore the anger of the Lord was kindled against Amaziah, and he sent unto him a prophet, which said unto him, Why hast thou sought after the gods of the people, which could not deliver their own people out of thine hand?

It is easy to see that his heart was not perfect by verse 14. Then verse 15 God says its time consequences.

  18. I want to serve the Lord and I want to do it with a perfect heart.

Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life. -Proverbs 4:23

  19. The Suicide Mission

what are you thinking? Why would you ask for a fight with a bigger arm first of all, and secondly especially when you know God is not with you? If the Lord has a history of winnig battles for you why would you disobey him especially right before the battle? This is a suicide mission, a good way to for sure get yourself killed.

  20. 2 And he did that which was right in the sight of the Lord, but not with a perfect heart.

There is much to be said about the right attitudes. We must keep pure motives, and propper attitudes in all we do..

  21. 4 But he slew not their children, but did as it is written in the law in the book of Moses, where the Lord commanded, saying, The fathers shall not die for the children, neither shall the children die for the fathers, but every man shall die for his own sin.

Many times I have heard it that the children are known by their Father’s name. Even though this is true, it clearly states that we must not judge the children for they are their own soul. God wants us to be a light to all ages.
