2 Chronicles 27

1 Jotham was twenty and five years old when he began to reign, and he reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name also was Jerushah, the daughter of Zadok.

And he did that which was right in the sight of the Lord, according to all that his father Uzziah did: howbeit he entered not into the temple of the Lord. And the people did yet corruptly.

He built the high gate of the house of the Lord, and on the wall of Ophel he built much.

Moreover he built cities in the mountains of Judah, and in the forests he built castles and towers.

He fought also with the king of the Ammonites, and prevailed against them. And the children of Ammon gave him the same year an hundred talents of silver, and ten thousand measures of wheat, and ten thousand of barley. So much did the children of Ammon pay unto him, both the second year, and the third.

So Jotham became mighty, because he prepared his ways before the Lord his God.

Now the rest of the acts of Jotham, and all his wars, and his ways, lo, they are written in the book of the kings of Israel and Judah.

He was five and twenty years old when he began to reign, and reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem.

And Jotham slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the city of David: and Ahaz his son reigned in his stead.

  1. We are stronger and can overcome when we follow and trust God . Like Jotham we can be blessed if we prepare our way before the Lord.

    Our Daily Prayer

Luke 11:21 When a strong man armed keepeth his palace, his goods are in peace: 22 But when a stronger than he shall come upon him, and overcome him, he taketh from him all his armour wherein he trusted, and divideth his spoils.
Lord Jesus, this day I bind the strongman of the Region of Fort Worth along with (Tarrant) and Surrounding Counties and by the Authority and Power of the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ I loose the goods and the souls of his house to come into the Kingdom of God by the Authority and Name of the Lord Jesus Christ and His Word.

  3. 2 And he did that which was right in the sight of the Lord, according to all that his father Uzziah did: howbeit he entered not into the temple of the Lord. And the people did yet corruptly.

Sometimes you do all you got, but your children continue to live a live of corruption. You have given them the example, you show them the way, you are a good leader and do what the Lord tells you without disobedience. Then, why you ask won’t they follow what you taught them? Because, serving GOD is a personal choice, you can make them to certain point but sooner or later the choice has to be made in their spirit.

  4. So Jotham became mighty, because he prepared
his ways before the Lord his God.

Psalm 18:30& 2sam 22:31 as for God, his way is perfect: the word of the Lord is tried: he is a buckler to all those that trust in him.

Ps 18:32 and 2sam22:33 it is God who girdeth me with strength, and maketh my way perfect.

Gods way is perfect, and it is by submitting unto Him that our way becomes like his. Our God is mighty so we can be if we line up with him!

  5. 2 And he did that which was right in the sight of the Lord, according to all that his father Uzziah did: howbeit he entered not into the temple of the Lord. And the people did yet corruptly.

It must have been very frustrating for him. As he was trying to rebuild faith and reform the church the people failed to get behind him and walk in the way of the Lord.

POFW pastor has the vision let’s get behind him and see the vision come to pass. Let us be in unity; catch the vision, lift his hands up, and pick up the sickle. It’s reaping time.

  6. Like Father Like Son….Not this time devil!!!

Jotham did that which was right in the site of the Lord, “howbeit he did not enter into the temple of the Lord.” He prospered and did well for Judah. Cities, castles and towers built all over; and victorious in battles. Do what you know to do and God will do his part.

  7. He did go in the sight of the Lord like his dad, but he had a great learning curve. He did not go in the temple and burn incense. He must have learned from the leperacy of his father and decided he did not want that punishment too.

    MSG
    2. In God’s eyes he lived a good life, following the path marked out by his father Uzziah. Unlike his father, though, he didn’t desecrate The Temple of God. But the people pushed right on in their lives of corruption.

Jotham built towers, walls and cities while in one year he received over 3 tons of silver, 65,000 bushels of wheat, and another 65,000 bushels of barley as a result of a victory he won over the Amorites.

  9. Jotham was generally a good king, but his people remained as corrupt as they had been during his father Uzziah’s reign. Those you lead will not always follow your example, but that should not affect the way we live for God.

  10. v6 So Jatham became mighty, because he prepared his ways before the LORD his GOD.

2 Tim.2:21-22 If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master’s use, prepared unto very good work.
Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the LORD out of a pure heart.

One must prepare for daily spiritual battle. By reading and praying GOD’SWORD . HIS Word.
As we serve HIM humbly everyday and trust HIM. there are no part -time warriors in HIS Kingdom. Never give the enemy any liberty in our lives, for once we were enslaved to sin but; Thank GOD For The BLOOD!
JESUS has redeemed us. Our GREAT GOD deserves ALL THE GLORY IN ALL THINGS.
Without HIM we could do nothing.
The enemy has been defeated and he will have to pay, as in v 5.

  11. 6 So Jotham became mighty, because he prepared his ways before the Lord his God.

Jottham bacame mighty because he did he best to lead the people of God. Alot of people did not want to follow him but he did he best to be pleasing to God and God blessed his Kingship.

  12. This chapter illustrates time. Jotham did not reign for long, however he did what was right in the sight of the Lord with his time. Everyone is given a lifetime, which the length thereof is unknown. Therefore one would be wise to spend the time allotted to do what is right in the sight of the Lord. May the good Lord Bless you all in Jesus name, Amen

  13. So Jotham became mighty, because he prepared his ways before the Lord his God. (2 Chronicles 27:6 KJV)

The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and he delighteth in his way. (Psalm 37:23 KJV)
A man shall not be established by wickedness: but the root of the righteous shall not be moved. (Proverbs 12:3 KJV)
When it is in the heart of man to do what is right, a life of Favor, protection, blessings…etc comes upon you!
Blessed shalt thou be in the city, and blessed shalt thou be in the field. Blessed shall be the fruit of thy body, and the fruit of thy ground, and the fruit of thy cattle, the increase of thy kine, and the flocks of thy sheep. Blessed shall be thy basket and thy store. Blessed shalt thou be when thou comest in, and blessed shalt thou be when thou goest out. (Deuteronomy 28:3-6 KJV)

  14. ILove to eat tuna with Jesus

Uzziah, Jotham’s father allowed Satan to influence him. He was king, but not a priest. He tried to “lift himself up” into a higher position.

    Scriptural comparison

For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: (Isaiah 14:13 KJV)

Jotham apparently learned by example not to be filled with pride, but to humble himself.

  15. Jotham, whose name means Yahweh is perfect. Watched his father, King Uzziah, contract leperousy, because of his pride and willingness to overstep authority.

Now Jotham decides to walk right but never goes into the temple.

This tragic story is overshadowed by the heavenly vision of Isaiah 6.

God asks who will go, and Isaiah responds “send me”

Though King Uzziah fell, God raised up another!

  16. 6 So Jotham became mighty, because he prepared his ways before the Lord his God.

Doing right is not always the easiet thing to do, but God honors it as long as we keep pure and right motives. Jotham became mighty because he praised. When we worship and praise the Lord, our focus turns from us and all around us to God, and his greatness.when our focus is on how GREAT God is, we will keep our motive right and pure.

  17. In this scripture, you can really tell when the blessings of God are in your life. By being a living breathing testimony for God, and doing what is right in the sight of God.

  18. Whatcha ReBuilding?

Jotham rebuilt the upper gate of the Temple of the LORD. He also did extensive rebuilding on the wall at the hill of Ophel. He built towns in the hill country of Judah and constructed fortresses and towers in the wooded areas. (2 Chronicles 27:3, 4 NLT)

This scripture challenges me to examine some spiritual areas of protection that may need some rebuilding. Jotham rebuilt the upper gate and wall. Prayer, Fasting and Bible reading are our gate and wall. Pastor has made it very easy for us to rebuild in this area by our daily prayer and blog. Also Jotham built towns in the hill country of Judah. We Build a place for the Lord to live when we worship and praise (Send Up Judah) with a pure and prefect heart. It also creates an anointing which is like a type of covering or shield of protection. Which is what Jotham built when he constructed fortresses and towers.

  19. This is the day that the Lord hath made, I will rejoice and be glad in it! It is my desire and a lifestyle to rejoice in the Lord everyday. Allowing the Holy Ghost to reign in our lives (to govern and dominate). I want my ways to please the Lord Proverbs 16 and 7 states When a man’s ways please the Lord, he maketh even his enemies to be at peace with him. I like the message version of that verse When God approves of your life, even your enemies will end up shaking your hand. I want the approval of the almighty God!!! Rewarded through the obedience of the Word of God!!!

  20. So Jotham became mighty, because he prepared his ways before the Lord his God.

God’s word is yeah and amen. If we will prepare our ways before the Lord, He is no respector of persons. If we remain humble in His sight, and obedient to His commands and word, He will raise up as He sees fit.

  21. Jotham established boundaries. He first built a gate, and the wall of Ophel that he did build much on is one of the most visited archeological sites in Jerusalem. He knew his limitations within the the house of God. Worshiping God but not overstepping his authority the way his father did. He built castles and fortress, to protect his country. Each of this actions lead us to the same conclusion. Jotham knew where to draw the line

  22. Jotham died at a relatively young age. He was 25 when he began to reign and ruled for 16 years. That would make him 41 at passing. But it isn’t how old we live but how we live. He prepared his way before the Lord and was blessed by God in his kingdom. Let us live for Jesus today and not be concerned about tomorrow. If we live for Him daily we will always be by His side in Life or afterlife!!

  23. I,we have to let God be God and let Him rieghn in our life..then our life will be ever so complete..with God’s love and power full force.

  24. Jotham grew powerful because he was determined to please the Lord his God. -2 Chronicles 27:6 MSG

For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified. -1 Corinthians 2:2
That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God. -1 Corinthians 2:5

I am persuaded that if God be for us who can be against us.

Romans 8:31 What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?

No weapon formed against us shall prosper. I am more than a conqueror through Christ.

  25. 6 So Jotham became mighty, because he prepared his ways before the Lord his God.

Jotham received the blessings of finances from the Ammorites and he used their wealth to build the kingdom of God and to strengthen his own kingdom as well. God was pleased with his ways. Building God’s kingdom does take money and God can distribute wealth to his people to be used to build his kingdom right here in the region of Fort Worth! When our ways become pleasing to God and he knows he can bless us with finances for HIS kingdom-watch out! God will open the windows of heaven and pour it out because he desires and has ordained a great revival in this region!

  26. Like his father uzziah, jothan enjioyed peace so that he was able to build and improve his capital and the surroundind cities. He followed his father’s example, except in the matter of uzziah’s sin . However Jotham does not appear to have been much of a reformer. He did little to prevent his people from acting corruptly.

  27. 6 So Jotham became mighty, because he prepared his ways before the Lord his God.

Seek Ye FIRST the kingdom of God…Jotham is an example of how God reacts to being honored first. I like the word choice in this scripture, ” prepared his ways” ; meaning not by accident but purposefully driven. It takes preparation to put God first, it doesn’t just happen by default. Our natural default is to put ourselves first and everything else second. Disciplining our natural self to make God the center of our lives will take preparation. Lord, allow me to prepare my ways before thee.

  28. 6 So Jotham became mighty, because he prepared his ways before the Lord his God.

So, our strength is directly related to our relationship with God. If we do what the word of God says we are strong. That means if you avoid God’s word and disobey, then that would make you weak.

  29. when life gives you lemons…….

Although nobody fallowed in his rightousness he kept doing the right thing. He didnt let what was going on around him fool him or get him of track. This is why keeoing the focus of your heart on God is so important. it doesnt matter what is going on around you, you can always count it as an oppritunity to serve God. Jotham is a great example because he believed in God more than he believed in the world around him. That is how he could denie it so much. Make the bst out of what God has given you.

  30. When nobody would, somebody did, and somebody always will.

The devil might of got everyone around him but he didn’t get them all!

    Thank you brother Huntley

  31. 2 And he did that which was right in the sight of the Lord, according to all that his father Uzziah did: howbeit he entered not into the temple of the Lord. And the people did yet corruptly.

He did right in the sight of the Lord, to the extent of all that his father Uzziah had done. However, he did not invade the temple of the Lord. But the people still did corruptly. (2 Chronicles 27:2 AMP)

6 So Jotham became mighty, because he prepared his ways before the Lord his God.

Not everyone will choose to share in the victory. Sometimes we gotta follow God and rejoice even when it feels like we’re the only one. Our way of living should be rooted in relationship with God not people.

  32. Jotham’s mother was the daughter of Zadok. Zadok was a priest. Zadok and his son Ahimaaz, and Abiathar, and his son Jonathan were narks of the king David during the time Absalom gained one of his advisors Ahithophel, so Hushai could use that info against the enemy confusing his councel into foolishness. Whenever you work for the Lords will and purpose blessings are going to be poured out, here we see that Jotham’s mother was place in an opportuned position of both teaching up and influencing a king of Judah, but also a man of God. The blessing of her father Zadok flowed down her family tree and visibly in her limb here, for he did what was right in the sight of the Lord, according to all that his father Uzziah had done. Well we know that Uzziah fell half-short and lukewarm, but here we dont see Jotham doing such things. Its possible that the councel from his mother stood strong, obviously he and his mother saw Uzziahs mistakes and wanted to do better to grow from it, in which he did he was a builder. He built the Upper Gate of the house of the Lord, extensively on the wall of Ophel, he built cities and mountains of Judah, and in the forrests he built fortresses and towers. He built up his relationship with God, and built for His house and people. In turn God blessed him with victory in battle with the Ammonites, instead of wiping them off the map, which was appointed back when Moses and Joshua where laying down Gods commands. He probably shouldnt have accepted produce, instead of their heads, but he did, his fathers before him accepted revenue also from their conquered enemies also, making it seem a status quo. However Scripture doesnt show Jotham reaping the consequences of his actions here. This is interesting to me.

This goes to show how important it is to teach up and influence our children and those under our influence. Even though Jotham did what was right in the eyes of the Lord, still the people acted corruplty (vs2). This was not Jotham’s fault, for he was doing the right thing among the people, and was a good influence. In fact he “prepared his ways before the Lord.” He planned in advance ‘pre-meditated’ doing God’s Will. These are the end of days and even though we live our life to display holiness, others may continue on their course of corruption without care of our outreaching spirit. We have been comissioned and our job is to spread the ‘good news’ and “stay on the ship” so keep trucking down God’s Way.

  33. Organization and preparation are keys to successful leadership. We have to be one step ahead of the enemy and for those who follow behind us. If we are supposed to be representing God in our walk we should stay on the ball and not let things crumble around us. When we let our hairs down that is when the enemy strikes.

  34. Building while on the Journey.

4 Moreover he built cities in the mountains of Judah, and in the forests he built castles and towers.

This verse reminded me of what Pastor has been preaching on Sunday mornings, about the Journey.

About the ups and downs of life, and how the children of God had many ups and downs in the walk with God. We all have come short (the downs) of the Glory of God, and yet He loves us (the ups) through it all.

And also about, not seeing what God has instore for us,(the Forest.) How the children of God sometimes lost sight of God, yet He was still right there in front of their eyes. We often lose sight of God when we allow things in our life (the trees) to get in the way of our focus on God.

  35. V’s 1-4
To get the full story of Ahaz, one should read 2 Kings 16 and Isaiah 7. He was the most wicked King that Judah had yet hnown, reigning sixteen years in Jerusalem . After Ahaz became king, hewasted no time plunging into idolatry. He chose the evil king of Isral as his pattern instead of David. Ahaz revived the abominable ritual of child sacrifice in the valley of the son of hinnom, outside Jerusalem. The worship of Molech, of which this was a part, had not been practiced since the days of Solomon ( 1Kgs. 11:7), but now all forms of idolatry and abominations were widely practiced and encouraged.
