Ezra 3

1 And when the seventh month was come, and the children of Israel were in the cities, the people gathered themselves together as one man to Jerusalem.

Then stood up Jeshua the son of Jozadak, and his brethren the priests, and Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and his brethren, and builded the altar of the God of Israel, to offer burnt offerings thereon, as it is written in the law of Moses the man of God.

And they set the altar upon his bases; for fear was upon them because of the people of those countries: and they offered burnt offerings thereon unto the Lord, even burnt offerings morning and evening.

They kept also the feast of tabernacles, as it is written, and offered the daily burnt offerings by number, according to the custom, as the duty of every day required;

And afterward offered the continual burnt offering, both of the new moons, and of all the set feasts of the Lord that were consecrated, and of every one that willingly offered a freewill offering unto the Lord.

From the first day of the seventh month began they to offer burnt offerings unto the Lord. But the foundation of the temple of the Lord was not yet laid.

They gave money also unto the masons, and to the carpenters; and meat, and drink, and oil, unto them of Zidon, and to them of Tyre, to bring cedar trees from Lebanon to the sea of Joppa, according to the grant that they had of Cyrus king of Persia.

Now in the second year of their coming unto the house of God at Jerusalem, in the second month, began Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and Jeshua the son of Jozadak, and the remnant of their brethren the priests and the Levites, and all they that were come out of the captivity unto Jerusalem; and appointed the Levites, from twenty years old and upward, to set forward the work of the house of the Lord.

Then stood Jeshua with his sons and his brethren, Kadmiel and his sons, the sons of Judah, together, to set forward the workmen in the house of God: the sons of Henadad, with their sons and their brethren the Levites.

10 And when the builders laid the foundation of the temple of the Lord, they set the priests in their apparel with trumpets, and the Levites the sons of Asaph with cymbals, to praise the Lord, after the ordinance of David king of Israel.

11 And they sang together by course in praising and giving thanks unto the Lord; because he is good, for his mercy endureth for ever toward Israel. And all the people shouted with a great shout, when they praised the Lord, because the foundation of the house of the Lord was laid.

12 But many of the priests and Levites and chief of the fathers, who were ancient men, that had seen the first house, when the foundation of this house was laid before their eyes, wept with a loud voice; and many shouted aloud for joy:

13 So that the people could not discern the noise of the shout of joy from the noise of the weeping of the people: for the people shouted with a loud shout, and the noise was heard afar off.

  1. No sense in building, if there’s no foundation!

It is important that people( Ft. Worth etc.) should know what the POFW ( the church) Is all about. We have not been placed here just because. We are here so that people can know who Jesus is, He is the Savior, the Rock…..Therefore thus saith the Lord God, Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner stone, a sure foundation: he that believeth shall not make haste. (Isaiah 28:16 KJV)

Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God; And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone; In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord: In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit. (Ephesians 2:19-22)
GLORY,GLORY,GLORY!!!!! I’m feeling the HOLY GHOST!
With out Jesus, without John 3:5, without Acts 2:38…… Our labor would be in vain!
It’s Saturday let’s go out and show our region who the Lord is, that we may all come together to weep, to worship, that the chains of bondage would be broken. And the children of God WILL be set free!! In JESUS NAME!!! See you at outreach… Yay!

  2. Our foundation is JESUS!!!!

    KJB Psalm 188:22
The stone which the builders refused is become the head stone of the corner.

NLT Acts 4:11 For Jesus is the one referred to in the Scriptures, where it says, ‘The stone that you builders rejected has now become the cornerstone.

  3. God hears our praises..He hears our cries if,we are going to the house of God or not He loves everyone the same. He’s an awsome wonder as the song says.
    ithank Him dearly.
ipraise Him with all my might.
    ifollow Him always.
    igive my best.
    iwork hard for His Kingdom.
ireap in the fields for fruit….harvest, revival.

  4. ILove to eat breakfast with Jesus

    Quiet Church…Nonsense

And they sang together by course in praising and giving thanks unto the Lord; because he is good, for his mercy endureth for ever toward Israel. And all the people shouted with a great shout, when they praised the Lord, because the foundation of the house of the Lord was laid. (Ezra 3:11 KJV)

So that the people could not discern the noise of the shout of joy from the noise of the weeping of the people: for the people shouted with a loud shout, and the noise was heard afar off. (Ezra 3:13 KJV)

TO HAVE QUIET CHURCH IS NOT BIBLICAL.

  5. What the eyes of the old will behold

But many of the priests and Levites and chief of the fathers, who were ancient men, that had seen the first house, when the foundation of this house was laid before their eyes, wept with a loud voice; and many shouted aloud for joy:

Luke 2:28 Simeon took him in his arms and praised God, saying:
29 “Sovereign Lord, as you have promised,
you may now dismiss[a] your servant in peace.
30 For my eyes have seen your salvation,
31 which you have prepared in the sight of all nations:
32 a light for revelation to the Gentiles,
and the glory of your people Israel.”

When God makes a promise, it doesn’t matter how long it takes, he will do it.

  6. MSG version of verses 11-13, ” All the people boomed out hurrays, praising God as the foundation of the Temple of God was laid. As many were noisily shouting with joy, many of the older priests, Levites, and family heads who had seen the first Temple, when they saw the foundations of this Temple laid, wept loudly for joy. People couldn’t distinguish the shouting from the weeping. The sound of their voices reverberated for miles around.”

This passage of scripture helped me see the vision of our church. I can only imagine the shouting and weeping and praising of God that is going to happen when we lay the foundation for our new church. I can only think how Pastor and Sis. Watts and the few that were here from the beginning will feel when we begin to build. Timothy and I came here after the first couple of years, and I know I am Excited! I know that there is going to be Great Joy with shouting and weeping, when we begin to lay the foundation, and I believe it will be a revberberating sound that will reach clear across this country.

Thank You JESUS for a church family with a Vision !!

  7. 11 And they sang together by course in praising and giving thanks unto the Lord; because he is good, for his mercy endureth for ever toward Israel.

A prasie will always outway a cry. Our prasie will allow us to overcome anything in our lives. Prasie brings the Victory.

  8. Vs1 the people came together with one accord to the work and worship of the Lord.
Vs 12 it is so uplifting to return to God and worship Him as in the beginning.

  9. This chapter illustrates rebuilding. The children of Israel after being in captivity once again, had to rebuild the temple, their homes and themselves. Although they were shaken and fearful they followed what was written in the Law; “for fear was upon them because of the people of those countries”. One can rebuild all with the help of the Lord, if one is willing to take the first step towards Jesus. For Jesus must be the cornerstone in all things that one builds, or if one must rebuild. May the good Lord Bless you all in Jesus name, Amen

  10. THE FOUNDATION IS LAID, GO AHEAD AND SHOUT!

12 But many of the priests and Levites and chief of the fathers, who were ancient men, that had seen the first house, when the foundation of this house was laid before their eyes, wept with a loud voice; and many shouted aloud for joy:

The challenging charge before them created an excitement, anticipation, rejoicing and outward demonstration of expressive joy and exalting praise. All of this demonstrative exertion of astounding singing, weeping and shouting was generated because of a slab of stone, the rock beneath the temple, the foundation.

Foundation – a basis (as a tenet, principle, or axiom) upon which something stands or is supported.

The foundation demonstrated and ilustrated the hope for a better future, a house for GOD, a place of contunial sacrifice and worship, the place of knowing GOD. The FOUNDATION is something to build on; meaning we hae seen the fulness of it. While the young laborers were shouting loudly for joy of a better future, the elder leaders were weeping loudly for joy of a revival of past experiences. The 2 together created a massive, resounding celebration.

13 So that the people could not discern the noise of the shout of joy from the noise of the weeping of the people: for the people shouted with a loud shout, and the noise was heard afar off.

At The Pentecostals of Fort Worth this same SOUND should be heard at every service! Why?

    THE FOUNDATION IS LAID

1Corinthians 3:11 For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.

SHOUT! REJOICE! PRAISE! SHOUT! REJOICE! PRAISE! SHOUT! REJOICE! PRAISE! SHOUT! REJOICE! PRAISE! SHOUT! REJOICE! PRAISE! SHOUT! REJOICE! PRAISE! SHOUT! REJOICE! PRAISE!

There is nothing greater to BUILD on than JESUS!

    Build your HOPES on HIM!
    Build your DREAMS on HIM!
    Build your FUTURE on HIM!
    Build your ETERNITY on HIM!

  11. 11 And they sang together by course in praising and giving thanks unto the Lord; because he is good, for his mercy endureth for ever toward Israel.

How joyous it was those that have walked in this way for years, sacrificed, gave of themselves and their families to see truth marching on! Families had suffered and been in bondage because of the wicked ways of their king, now they have come to a place not only of restoration for themselves, but restoration to the commands of the Lord.

I believe this is how God and the angels rejoice when backsliders come home, and this a good example for the church to follow. We have to leave their past in the past, and allow them to build again the foundation of the Lord in their lives. Whatever we can do to assist them, God would bless us for. Truly our souls must weep with joy for restoration.

  12. v11 And they sang together by course in praising and giving thanks unto the LORD; because he is good, for his mercy endureth for ever toward Israel. And all the people shouted with great shout, when they praised the LORD, because the foundation of the house of the LORD was laid.

Praise GOD HE IS STEADFAST, UNMOVABLE, SURE AND SOILD. I’m so thankful today that HE chose to dwell in our hearts before the foundation of the world. We are HIS living epistles carrying HIS message wherever HE places us, let our lights shine, and remain faithful as we give HIM our very best.
Keep lifting JESUS UP everywhere we go that’s our sacred duty and HE WILL DO THE REST!

How much more should we shout unto the Lord. We are the temple of the Holy Ghost.

And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone; -Ephesians 2:20
In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord: -Ephesians 2:21

Faithfulness is seen here as there was much being done the people stayed faithful to continue to follow the instructions that were left by Moses.. How many times do we get caught up in our own busyness just to neglect to continue to be faithful to continue to do what God or Pastor has told us???

  16. And they sang together by course in praising and giving thanks unto the Lord; because he is good, for his mercy endureth for ever toward Israel. And all the people shouted with a great shout, when they praised the Lord, because the foundation of the house of the Lord was laid.

They all sang together, and shouted, because the foundation was laid. We should never become complacent about the foundation our walk with God and church is built upon. Our foundation is what keeps us supported and grounded. When trials and tribulation comes its what keeps us standing. Don’t neglect the basic necessities: prayer, praise, and Gods holy word. Without these we are nothing but maybe feel good motivational speakers but with them we are built upon truth.

  17. The older men were saddened because the new house was not as the first. The glory of the first overshadowed the second.

Backsliding produces a lesser blessing. God is merciful, but many times those who leave and come back many years later lose the path and the blessings they would have had.

Faithfulness is the key. Never give up

  18. 10 And when the builders laid the foundation of the temple of the Lord, they set the priests in their apparel with trumpets, and the Levites the sons of Asaph with cymbals, to praise the Lord, after the ordinance of David king of Israel.

11 And they sang together by course in praising and giving thanks unto the Lord; because he is good, for his mercy endureth for ever toward Israel. And all the people shouted with a great shout, when they praised the Lord, because the foundation of the house of the Lord was laid.

    The sound of praise…
Nothing is more powerful in the church or to the individual child of God than a shout of praise!! It can move mountains and shake heaven and earth.

  19. And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. (Matthew 16:18 KJV)

There are many types of foundations. The code today for a foundation type depends on the soil. If you build on unstable soil you need peers that go all the way to solid rock under the surface. You may have to use post tension which is lateral tensioning rods that go all the way thought the slab. This hold everything together. If one part of the slab starts to drop, all you have to do is tighten those tension rods and everything comes back together. With Jesus we have the best of both…..

We are the soil beneath the foundation. He is the foundation. Because we are unstable soil that just means he has to reach down deep and set some things in place deep in our hearts. That is why a sting testimony does so much for God. On top of the deep footings that he places we find the foundation. The foundation is no good without unity ( rebar ).
The lateral tension Rods are the members of the church holding the foundation together. If one part of the church starts to drop, all you have to do is start tightening up or praying and the church or foundation starts to come back up. The continuity of the lateral members of the foundation is the most important part. This is unity in the church.

    Unity=strong foundation

  20. 11 And they sang together by course in praising and giving thanks unto the Lord; because he is good, for his mercy endureth for ever toward Israel.

You can hear us upside the building too, ha ha!

Unity to praise God. Thank you almighty Jesus that you reign in our lives and you are the reason we are here.

People should take special note to pay attention to see if an older person is crying or happy. As people mature things usually become more clear to the older people before the younger people. When you have seen blessings, seen them taken away, and then see them return again it is cause for great shouting.

  21. Changing Times

To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted; A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance; A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing; A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away; A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak; A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace. (Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 KJV)

There was an interesting mix of reactions to the laying of the foundation of the temple. Some who knew only of current times expressed joy with shouting, but there was something deeper for those who had the greater experience. Those who had seen more remembered the previous times, they remembered the former beauty before the subsequent destruction. They remembered the first ship before it was broken up and the second came on the scene.

As we go through a season of change as a congregation, I believe we will experience varying reactions of celebration in what God is doing. I can imagine those who remember church back when it was in the current foyer will see the changes differently than those who only know the current sanctuary. I believe God has given us different reactions of praise so we can be as a choir combining different parts and voices to become as one praise to God for what He is doing and will do, arising as a testimony even to those afar off around us.

They that sow in tears shall reap in joy. He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him. (Psalm 126:5, 6 KJV)

Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call. (Acts 2:38, 39 KJV)

    iRejoice
    iReap

  22. 4 They kept also the feast of tabernacles, as it is written, and offered the daily burnt offerings by number, according to the custom, as the duty of every day required;

5 And afterward offered the continual burnt offering, both of the new moons, and of all the set feasts of the Lord that were consecrated, and of every one that willingly offered a freewill offering unto the Lord From the first day of the seventh month began they to offer burnt offerings unto the Lord. But the foundation of the temple of the Lord was not yet laid.

The people were willing giving their offering before the foundation of the temple was even laid. This shows their support in the kingdom of God and their faith in what was getting ready to happen. We must freely give unto the Lord in order for God to bless us. He will not take it from you because it has to come honestly from the individual.

  23. 3 During the seventh month[a] of the year, the Israelites who had settled in their towns went to Jerusalem. 2 The priest Joshua son of Jozadak, together with the other priests, and Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel and his relatives rebuilt the altar of Israel’s God. Then they were able to offer sacrifices there by following the instructions God had given to Moses. 3 And they built the altar where it had stood before,[b] even though they were afraid of the people who were already living around there. Then every morning and evening they burned sacrifices and offerings to the Lord.

I noticed how the priests and their relatives rebulit the altar spite of the fear they had of the people who were already living around there. Today out of fear to the Altar people don’t want to approach it. Lord may your fire touch the souls of those who don’t fear you for they don’t know what they do. I plead your blood over the souls who choose not to praise you at the altar. For you are worthy to be PRAISED Lord.

  24. It is good that they gave sacrifice and praise to the Lord. Surely He will bless them. However in this Chapter there is no acknowledgement from God or that he was pleased. In verse 3 it was written that they did it out of the fear of the men in that country. When we really fear God then we will do it out of the fear of the Almighty and not man. Oh!That there hearts would be inclined to fear me,and keep all my commandments always,so that it will go well with them and their children forever!! Deutoronomy5:29

  25. 11 And they sang together by course in praising and giving thanks unto the Lord; because he is good, for his mercy endureth for ever toward Israel.

They did have a lot to shout for-they had just come out of bondage and the Lord had moved on them to rebuild the Temple. The people had a mind to serve God once again. And at the same time, the elders were so dismayed that that the former beauty of the Temple had been lost forever and they knew there was no way for it to ever be restored like it had once been. This makes me think of a life that has been lived for God, yet fell to sin. While God restores spiritual life once again, it does come at a price. The price is that now due to the fall and sin, there are battlescars now and the person has much in the mind and memory to now fight against in their journey to make heaven.

  26. The older leaders have a fascinating response as they watch the new temple foundation being laid. While others clap and shout for joy, they cry. he sounds of their mourning are as loud the sounds of rejoicing! These old tymers remember the gandeur of Jerusalem before the devestating destruction. It seems they fear that the new might not duplicate the magnificence of the old. And yet, surely they must be thankful for this opportunity to rebuild God’s house. Its simply bitter sweet. Perhaps their tears are a mixture of sadness and joy- joy at being given a second chance and sadness at th lost years sin has caused. Their sadness is inevitable, they clearly understand that their spiritual rebelliousness and poor choices have damaged their relationship with God and eachother. However, God offers them repeated opportunities to renew their commitment to Him and His ways. They accept God’s gracious “second chance” and their sorrow over flows into tears of joyful relief.
