Esther 3

1 After these things did king Ahasuerus promote Haman the son of Hammedatha the Agagite, and advanced him, and set his seat above all the princes that were with him.

And all the king’s servants, that were in the king’s gate, bowed, and reverenced Haman: for the king had so commanded concerning him. But Mordecai bowed not, nor did him reverence.

Then the king’s servants, which were in the king’s gate, said unto Mordecai, Why transgressest thou the king’s commandment?

Now it came to pass, when they spake daily unto him, and he hearkened not unto them, that they told Haman, to see whether Mordecai’s matters would stand: for he had told them that he was a Jew.

And when Haman saw that Mordecai bowed not, nor did him reverence, then was Haman full of wrath.

And he thought scorn to lay hands on Mordecai alone; for they had shewed him the people of Mordecai: wherefore Haman sought to destroy all the Jews that were throughout the whole kingdom of Ahasuerus, even the people of Mordecai.

In the first month, that is, the month Nisan, in the twelfth year of king Ahasuerus, they cast Pur, that is, the lot, before Haman from day to day, and from month to month, to the twelfth month, that is, the month Adar.

And Haman said unto king Ahasuerus, There is a certain people scattered abroad and dispersed among the people in all the provinces of thy kingdom; and their laws are diverse from all people; neither keep they the king’s laws: therefore it is not for the king’s profit to suffer them.

If it please the king, let it be written that they may be destroyed: and I will pay ten thousand talents of silver to the hands of those that have the charge of the business, to bring it into the king’s treasuries.

10 And the king took his ring from his hand, and gave it unto Haman the son of Hammedatha the Agagite, the Jews’ enemy.

11 And the king said unto Haman, The silver is given to thee, the people also, to do with them as it seemeth good to thee.

12 Then were the king’s scribes called on the thirteenth day of the first month, and there was written according to all that Haman had commanded unto the king’s lieutenants, and to the governors that were over every province, and to the rulers of every people of every province according to the writing thereof, and to every people after their language; in the name of king Ahasuerus was it written, and sealed with the king’s ring.

13 And the letters were sent by posts into all the king’s provinces, to destroy, to kill, and to cause to perish, all Jews, both young and old, little children and women, in one day, even upon the thirteenth day of the twelfth month, which is the month Adar, and to take the spoil of them for a prey.

14 The copy of the writing for a commandment to be given in every province was published unto all people, that they should be ready against that day.

15 The posts went out, being hastened by the king’s commandment, and the decree was given in Shushan the palace. And the king and Haman sat down to drink; but the city Shushan was perplexed.

  1. 5 And when Haman saw that Mordecai bowed not, nor did him reverence, then was Haman full of wrath.

It took courage and faith in God to stand against the cultural pressure of that time and not bow in reverence and worship to a man. Mordecai was faithful to the Lord. Today we still have cultural pressures that would want us to bow out and compromise our faith but let this chapter be a reminder that we are to stand. We are to stand in courage, faith and determination to honor our God.

  2. Accountability

10 And the king took his ring from his hand, and gave it unto Haman the son of Hammedatha the Agagite, the Jews’ enemy.

I love the fact that our Pastor invite us to take discipleship classes and leadership classes, why? Because we all need to be accountable. In this chapter the king give full power by giving his ring to Haman and too much power in the wrong hands can become a curse.

Our Pastor has great wisdom when it comes to that, he wants us to be good leaders, fair, and just. He is constantly making sure that decisions we take don’t go against the Kingdom of God.

You Have To Stand For Something Or You’ll Fall For Anything

2 And all the king’s servants, that were in the king’s gate, bowed, and reverenced Haman: for the king had so commanded concerning him. But Mordecai bowed not, nor did him reverence.

It seems it would have been easier to bow down with the rest of the servants. Just like it seems easier to bow down to the customs and idols of today. It might seem easier at school to partake in the sin of everyone around you is doing, to listen to the same type of music, or to act like they’re acting. But a true leader does right when no one else is doing right. God will deliver the true leader and forsake the follower of evil.

  4. 13 And the letters were sent by posts into all the king’s provinces, to destroy, to kill, and to cause to perish, all Jews, both young and old, little children and women, in one day, even upon the thirteenth day of the twelfth month, which is the month Adar, and to take the spoil of them for a prey.

I am reminded of what Pastor preached yesterday morning. He said when God seems to be absent we are to have great joy.

Contrary to human logic, we want to run, hide, weep, and wail over circumstances such as these, but God knows the plans he has for us.

Though our country go the way of Germany pre-WWII, God is still on the throne.

All things, even threats of genocide, work together for good to them who love God and are the called according to his purpose.

Like Pastor preached, the devil didn’t give life, so he can’t take it.

Paul and Silas preached and were thrown in prison. The people issued death threats but still they preached.

    Paul said 2 Corinthians 4:16-18
For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day. 17 For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory; 18 While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.

It is worth it! The pressing, affliction, suffering, persecution, evil speaking, abuse, misuse, and hate.

Even if a gun is pointed at our face God says to not be afraid. Preach, teach, witness, and work for his kingdom. Just like David facing Goliath, we never go alone!

  5. We see mordecail standing for truth for the laws of God doing what is right. You think because he did right that everything is ok and no problems but we see evil stood up and said if u will not take a knee to me I’ll kill u and not only you but your family friends ur people.
What do I do when I don’t take a knee to evil and all this comes to me? Go to prayer or say ok ok don’t hurt me I’ll sit down?

  6. Vs 15 the city was perplexed. This implies that even the heathen people knew that what had been decreed was not just.

  7. V.8 and haman said unto king ahasuerus, there is a certain people scattered abroad and dispersed among the people in all the provinces of thy kingdom and their laws are diverse from all people, neither keep they thy kings laws: therefore it is not for the kings profit to suffer them. If it pleases the king…..i will pay ten thousand talents of silver…v.10 and the king took from his hand and gave it unto haman.
$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ in exchange for a life…the love of money is the root of all evil: 1Tim. 6:10
How easily was this king persuaded by one man.

  8. This chapter illustrates testing. Haman did not receive reverence from Mordecai and as such he was angered. One will be tested sometime in life to see what one’s beliefs are. This is why one must study the Word for when such a day comes. One that bends with peer pressure and/or is fearful of what another may think of ones beliefs will always be unstable. May the good Lord Bless you all in Jesus name.

  9. Why is different perceived as threatening?

Haman, was one of the most powerful men in the Persian Empire. However, because one man would not bow to him he started a ruckus. This kind of behavior did not start here or end here. We have read many chapters about this same type of insecurity in leadership; not only in the Bible but in history books through grade school. Abraham Lincoln, Martin Luther King, John Kennedy; untold numbers of people have been taken from us simply because they were different or believed the difference in people is what makes a great nation.

It would have been neat to whisper in Haman’s ear; “Your queen, Esther, is a Jew…” Ha!!

  10. Building a building takes alot of patience, sweat, tears. I used to help my father when I was about7/8 years old – an adobe house moving those mud bricks weighed about 50 lbs each. But it was well worth it and me and my brother did alot of crying but it was a beautiful home and we had a lil part of building for a good cause.
The moral of this chapter is there was alot of building and being all said in God’s Word it had to be for a good reason. I thank the Lord that I Go to a church (Pofw) that does alot of building for the Kingdom of God on a daily basis answering phones is one of the ways it’s building God’church. iwant to be apart of building the kingdom of God and His House.
Giving is one way I help as much as I can.

  11. Verses 5-6 NLT read “When Haman saw that Mordecai would not bow down or show him respect, he was filled with rage. He had learned of Mordecai’s nationality, so he decided it was not enough to lay hands on Mordecai alone. Instead, he looked for a way to destroy all the Jews throughout the entire empire of Xerxes.” Misery loves company…..evil always wants to take down all it can. It is not happy until you cave in; but, we need to stand firm and faithful unto the Lord as Mordecai.

  12. 15 The posts went out, being hastened by the king’s commandment, and the decree was given in Shushan the palace. And the king and Haman sat down to drink; but the city Shushan was perplexed.

Rebellion to the laws of the king caused confusion among the people, just as rebellion to God’s laws causes much confusion in our own lives. Stay grounded in God’s word to avoid a spirit of confusion.

  13. Just like clock work the enemy shows his ugly head, right after a time of victory, with unsportsman like conduct he conjours up a plot to destroy the Jews. Mordecai would not pay respects to a man, with nothing to respect, and refused to violate “‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’38This is the first and greatest commandment.” Mat 22:37-38. I kneel only for God, and this was the message he was sending Haman, or pay him honor (vs2). When Haman saw this he became ‘enraged’ with an unholy anger to not only kill Mordecai but all of his people, the Jews, throughout the whole kingdom of Xerxes, which he tries to conspire with in vs8 to destroy them, and as a bribe that he would place ten thousand talents of silver into the royal treasury for the men who carry it out. Xerxes, ignorant of his favorable queens true nationality aproves of Hamans plot.

Silver is the monetary standard of the Persian empire, and Haman’s offer presents a staggering sum:375 tons of silver. That much silver represents more than 55 million dollars in today’s economy. Haman may have been this rich; but more likely, he planned to seize the wealth from the Jews as they were slaughtered. The kings signet ring mentioned in vs 10 represents his authority throughout his empire. When used as a seal on a document (the design of the ring is pressed into soft clay or wax on papers from the king), that document is law. To allow another to use that ring means the king has given full authority to that person. In a spiritual essence Haman who is ‘enraged with unholy anger’ to murder Gods people, has conspired with Xerxes a pagan king to carry it out with his aproval and authority. There are certain levels of principality, and rules to conjoin them to effectively make a movement of ‘evil’ momentum. This is the course unveiling before the kingdom, an us as we read on. It took one man to stand up for what was righteous, disgusted with secrecy to survive, he has seen God do the miraculous with his family, and courage has filled his spirit. In a carnal world God is still doing the unexplainalble miraculous, you are encouraged with scripture and evidence found in todays generation: God isn’t through with us yet, so stand up and stay on the boat. God is about to calm the storm, and pull the rug out from under the enemy. Be encouraged, be joyful.

  14. I WILL NOT BOW TO THIS WORLD

And all the king’s servants, that were in the king’s gate, bowed, and reverenced Haman: for the king had so commanded concerning him. But Mordecai bowed not, nor did him reverence. (Esther 3:2 KJV)

Continual pressure and temptation have caused thousands of semi consecrated believers to bow to the gods of this world and worship at their altars of sacrifice.

A fully committed and consecrated life to JESUS and HIS Word will keep us at the correct altar. Everyone gives to something.

Giving of time, talent and/or treasure. I choose with a made up mind. I will not bow to worship man made gods. Regardless of the consequences we should be fully committed to JESUS and HIS cause.

    To bucket list

I can only imagine that many “bucket lists” were written, since it has now became public knowledge that all Jews, great and small are to be Extirminated.. And their thing as plumder… Wow.

As we near the end, when the church will once again be percuited as we (in the USA) have never seen, there might come a time when such a decree is made. Revelations speaks of a forth of mankind being killed off, and then later a third of those left will be killed off, we might be racing toward a proclimation for all christians to be extirminated, and their belongings to be plunder. What will your list look like? Will you trust God to provide? will you run and hide???

  16. Haman or Hitler. Both sent their decree out to end Gods people. Not a good idea. We can see through Hitlers demise how God always comes through for his people.

And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. (Matthew 16:18 KJV)

When the time comes that we are tested so fiercely. We have to know that God is God and he is the beginning and the end.

I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last. (Revelation 22:13 KJV)

  17. Esther 3:3 NLT

Then the palace officials at the king’s gate asked Mordecai, “Why are you disobeying the king’s command?”

We must not fear or obey the king of this world but the One True King of all kings and Lord of all lords.

    Matthew 10:28 NLT

“Don’t be afraid of those who want to kill your body; they cannot touch your soul. Fear only God, who can destroy both soul and body in hell.

    Revelation 19:14-16 NLT

The armies of heaven, dressed in the finest of pure white linen, followed him on white horses. From his mouth came a sharp sword to strike down the nations. He will rule them with an iron rod. He will release the fierce wrath of God, the Almighty, like juice flowing from a winepress. On his robe at his thigh was written this title: King of all kings and Lord of all lords.

  18. 10 And the king took his ring from his hand, and gave it unto Haman the son of Hammedatha the Agagite, the Jews’ enemy.

God will allow the enemy to test you. Sometimes its not so much as what did I do wrong, but what is did I do right that God would find me Faithful to go through this test. I am reminded of the story of Job, how God allow the devil to test his trueness to God.

  19. 2 And all the king’s servants, that were in the king’s gate, bowed, and reverenced Haman: for the king had so commanded concerning him. But Mordecai bowed not, nor did him reverence.

Mordecai was determined not to bow to the pressure of the world… refused to bow to a carnal King. There is a king of this world called Satan who wants us to bow to him. But the apostolics of this day and time refuse to bow!! In Jesus name were raising up some young people who refuse to bow!!!

  20. v4 Now it came to pass, when they spake daily unto him, and he hearkened not unto them, that they told Haman, to see weather Mordecai’s matters would stand: for he had told them that he was a Jew.
v5 And when Haman saw that Mordecai bowed not, Nor did him reverence, then was Haman full of wrath.

There’s always some one to resent your devotion to the LORD.
Mordecai was a Jew he was different he was not to do what all the other nations did.
The concept of separation continued to develop in the Old Testamenf within the relationship between GOD and HIS special people, Israel Lev.15:31, 22:2 Num.16:21

We are called to be a separate people also
    2 COR. 6:17
We are called to be different not willfully different but because of HIS SPIRIT.

  21. 13 And the letters were sent by posts into all the king’s provinces, to destroy, to kill, and to cause to perish, all Jews, both young and old, little children and women, in one day, even upon the thirteenth day of the twelfth month, which is the month Adar, and to take the spoil of them for a prey.

I’ve been looking, but I have not found the answer yet. Like brother ward was talking about, I don’t want to just miss it by reading over what is important. The prase “thirteenth day of the twelfth month, which is the month Adar,” is something that is now intriguing to me because it is one of those things that I am tempted to just say in my mind, oh yeah, it just gives me a date or time frame. Like brother ward was saying about the location given when the question was asked who am I? If there is importance to the date, like there was with that location, I would like to not just skip over it.

  22. And the king took his ring from his hand, and gave it unto Haman the son of Hammedatha the Agagite, the Jews’ enemy.

And the king said unto Haman, The silver is given to thee, the people also, to do with them as it seemeth good to thee.

We should seek out a matter when it is brought to our attention. Giving ear to a deceptive person can cause great pain like here it almost cost many people their lives. The bible doesn’t indicate whether or not hamaan had done anything else to put his actions into question. We know he had position and power and he was enemy of the Jews. It seems the king trusted him a great deal to not even question or take council over hamaans call to kill an entire people. Sometimes we can be too trusting if we allow it to cloud our reasoning. Hamaans anger toward the Jews was personal. His pride was hurt, he was bitter and wanted revenge. He intentionally manipulated the king with his words standing in his position. When i read this it reminded me of gossip and how it destroys. Here it literally almost kills all the Jews but in the end destroys the one who set it in motion. We all need to guard our hearts from any roots taking place and to keep ourselves accountable for our words and actions. Leaders should never use position to manipulate situations and people esp for personal gain. Unfortunately this happens in the real world and that is why it is important to keep ourselves in check and have others help us too. Thankful for a pastor who is accountable to the elders and his pastor.

  23. There is no weapon formed against us that will ever prosper. The enemies of God’s people has always tried to stop us from being victorious and has always failed.

But thou, O LORD, art a shield for me; my glory, and the lifter up of mine head. -Psalms 3:3

  24. 4 Now it came to pass, when they spake daily unto him, and he hearkened not unto them, that they told Haman, to see whether Mordecai’s matters would stand: for he had told them that he was a Jew.

Opposition comes daily to us if we choose God’s way. It is a matter of swimming upstream in a world quickly rushing away from God. Our answer shouldn’t be “well I can’t do this… or that…”, it should be “I won’t do this… or that… because of who I am.” If we are children of the King of kings, our obedience to His ways goes beyond citizenship, it’s about identity, it’s about who we are. There must be a shift in the life of the believer, from rule and regulation to relationship, from association to identity. It is then that the focus shifts from it being about us obeying to it being about the identity, which is Jesus. The glory then is not in the act, it is in the identity of Christ.

He must increase, but I must decrease. (John 3:30 KJV)

  25. Saul was commanded by God to kill all the Amalekites but in his rebellion, he spared their king. Now hundreds of years later, Eshter who was from the same tribe as Saul, the tribe of Benjamin, is being forced to deal with the descendands of the Amalekites, Haman the Agagite. She could have have been like her great ancestor, and refused to do what God had purposed for her. She could have made friends with the enemy and allowed God’s people to continue along the path of destruction. But Eshter was not bound to the sins of the past, she was blessed to have a cousin who raised her in the ways of God. She was blessed to have a counselor who would tell her not what would make her comfortable but that which was right. Maybe if Saul would have had a Mordachai, this Agagite Haman would never have existed to threaten the people of God.

If your worried that your past will threaten your future, find you a Mordachai.

  26. Evil plans were brewing, but God was also working on something. When the enemy is trying to get the jump on one of God’s children, you best believe that God is up to something.
