Job 23

1 Then Job answered and said,

Even to day is my complaint bitter: my stroke is heavier than my groaning.

Oh that I knew where I might find him! that I might come even to his seat!

I would order my cause before him, and fill my mouth with arguments.

I would know the words which he would answer me, and understand what he would say unto me.

Will he plead against me with his great power? No; but he would put strength in me.

There the righteous might dispute with him; so should I be delivered for ever from my judge.

Behold, I go forward, but he is not there; and backward, but I cannot perceive him:

On the left hand, where he doth work, but I cannot behold him: he hideth himself on the right hand, that I cannot see him:

10 But he knoweth the way that I take: when he hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold.

11 My foot hath held his steps, his way have I kept, and not declined.

12 Neither have I gone back from the commandment of his lips; I have esteemed the words of his mouth more than my necessary food.

13 But he is in one mind, and who can turn him? and what his soul desireth, even that he doeth.

14 For he performeth the thing that is appointed for me: and many such things are with him.

15 Therefore am I troubled at his presence: when I consider, I am afraid of him.

16 For God maketh my heart soft, and the Almighty troubleth me:

17 Because I was not cut off before the darkness, neither hath he covered the darkness from my face.

  1. Job does not give up, he is not a quitter. His faith becomes his hope and light in the middle of his darkness. He knows at the end he will shine like gold.

  2. ILove to eat breakfast with Jesus

An amazing chapter explaining the way most of us feel at some point in our lives.

It feels as if God has hidden his face from us…but we are really just going through the fire to be purified.

10 But he knoweth the way that I take: when he hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold.

  3. Job 23:11-12 KJV

My foot hath held his steps, his way have I kept, and not declined. Neither have I gone back from the commandment of his lips; I have esteemed the words of his mouth more than my necessary food.
Glory to GOD!! Despite the trial of life, I know one thing for sure… That God is faithful, I will put all of my trust in him and not in man. His word is true, his word is hidden in my heart.

  4. Job defends himself and is frustrated that he cannot seem to get God’s attention in his time of trouble. We must not get frustrated but continually praise God.

  5. v10-12. We must just have faith in GOD and go through the test GOD is with us and ready to bless us. SOMETIMES there is no logic answer have faith and treasure HIS WORD and listen .
Totally submit to GOD and allow HIM to continually lead us in our daily lives, as we
    become more like HIM.
James instructs us to weep, mourn and humble ourselves before HIM. That’s good advise that’s better than complaining,
LORD teach me (us) to pray, intercede , weep and fast . To be an encourager and not a critic. To give thanks in all things. To be of good cheer because whatever we are going through we are not alone. Acts 23:11

  6. I am thankful for our Pastor and Sis Watts
Since, we were instructed that they were off limits last night; I take this opportunity. Thank you Pastor and Sis Watts for all the time and energy you have invested in me and my family. You are more than just a Pastor and First Lady to us.

    Way to go Job!
In your lowest moment of despair, you state “He is not forward, backward, on the left or the right”. In this deepest moment, you realize the truth… “He knoweth the way that I take; when He hath tried me I shall come forth as gold.”

In our most desperate moments do we lose hope that God is still in control? Lets learn from those who have been through the fire before us. Lets learn from our elders. How much more can we learn from this example? Can we make it up in our mind to understand that when trouble, conflict, etc… comes our way; it first must stop at the Throne for permission (as Pastor stated).

    • Amen Bro. Linton. !!!!
Give honor to whom honor is due. Pastor and Sis. Watts deserve double honor for their faithfulness as they continue to contribute their strength to GOD’S Kingdom and birthing spiritual children.
I’m thankful and love them too .

      • AMEN!!!! It was hard to be obedient last night but he did not say anything about today. We have been truly BLESSED with an OUTSTANDING Pastor and First Lady. Our Pastor always sends us home well fed and wanting more for dessert!!! He instills in us a HUNGER for God’s word. We love you both very much.

  7. This reminds me of a song the choir just sang, “You Are God Alone” God has his plan and will for us whether we like the trials we face or not but God is always God and as long as we trust and have faith in Him why should we worry or fear. Just like Job we face trials but in the end we just need to realize God is still God on His mighty throne despite it all. Thank you Jesus for the trails you allow into our lives so that we, so I, can stop and recognize your power and greatness through it all. My faith and trust is in you alone!

  8. 8 Behold, I go forward, but he is not there; and backward, but I cannot perceive him: 9 On the left hand, where he doth work, but I cannot behold him: he hideth himself on the right hand, that I cannot see him: 10 But he knoweth the way that I take: when he hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold.

Our journey in life is a walk by faith, not by things we see. Many people get sidetracked because they follow the natural eye, but we must follow the leading of the spirit, even when it seems we are all alone. I am reminded of the poem “Footsteps in the sand” Job could not see, hear or even feel God at this point, but yet he professed with his mouth that he shall come forth as God. God was carrying him, he just didn’t recognize it.

The same with us, God carries us many times, we just fail to recognize it.

  9. Verses 10-12 MSG “But he knows where I am and what I’ve done. He can cross-examine me all he wants, and I’ll pass the test with honors. I’ve followed him closely, my feet in his footprints, not once swerving from his way. I’ve obeyed every word he’s spoken, and not just obeyed his advice—I’ve treasured it.”

Matthew 6:21 KJV “For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.”

  10. Confidence

    Job 23:10-12, 14 NLT

“But he knows where I am going.
    And when he tests me, I will come out as pure as gold. For I have stayed on God’s paths;
I have followed his ways and not turned aside. I have not departed from his commands,
but have treasured his words more than daily food. So he will do to me whatever he has planned.
    He controls my destiny.

While reading a book it stated, ” Confidence equals contentment with self; contentment is knowing you have all you need for the present circumstances.” In these verses Job is confident with himself knowing he kept on the right path and trusting God was going to see him through his present circumstances.

    Philippians 4:11-13 KJV

Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content. I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: every where and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.

  11. HELP! I CAN”T FIND GOD

3 Oh that I knew where I might find him! that I might come even to his seat!

8 Behold, I go forward, but he is not there; and backward, but I cannot perceive him:

9 On the left hand, where he doth work, but I cannot behold him: he hideth himself on the right hand, that I cannot see him:

There are days and circumstances in life that I cannot find GOD. I look in places I have found him previously, prayers, fasting, studying HIS word, Praising HIS great name (JESUS), giving to HIS Kingdom and cause sacrificially, even Preaching HIS HOLY WORD, however there are still some situations and days that I CAN”T FIND GOD.

    ***The KEY***

Never, under any circumstances or reasons stop looking for HIM. GOD is everywhere! I believe what Job is referring to here is an answer, an answer to his life dilemma. This too is what I am speaking of.

We know GOD is omnipotent (ALL POWERFUL) omnipresent (present in all places at all times) OMNISCIENT (having infinite awareness, understanding, and insight).

Since GOD is everywhere why is it that “I CAN”T FIND GOD”

    Here is the answer!

He is LEADING me to a PLACE in HIM that I have never been before!

He is leading me toward perfection by burning impurities out of me through the fire. (Pride, doubt, fear, hatred, jealousy, arrogance, ego, strife, lust, carnality, etc.)

10 But he knoweth the way that I take: when he hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold.

In Daniel 3 we find another illustration of those SEEKING GOD and they found HIM in the FIRE!

Daniel 3:24 Then Nebuchadnezzar the king was astonished, and rose up in haste, and spake, and said unto his counsellors, Did not we cast three men bound into the midst of the fire? They answered and said unto the king, True, O king.
25 He answered and said, Lo, I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire, and they have no hurt; and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God.
26 Then Nebuchadnezzar came near to the mouth of the burning fiery furnace, and spake, and said, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, ye servants of the most high God, come forth, and come hither. Then Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, came forth of the midst of the fire.

The Apostle Peter gives us insight in:

1Peter 1:6 Wherein ye greatly rejoice, though now for a season, if need be, ye are in heaviness through manifold temptations:
7 That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:
8 Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory:

1Peter 4:12 Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you:
13 But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ’s sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy.

Keep walking through the FIRE you will find JESUS in the FIRE!

May the LORD JESUS Bless and Keep you today by HIS great GRACE!

  12. Hidden Treasure

    Job 23:12 AMP

I have not gone back from the commandment of His lips; I have esteemed and treasured the words of
His mouth more than my necessary food.

The Bible is alive! It’s the words from God lighting your path to salvation. The people in China treasure every word in the Bible and Word from the preacher (taking notes) because they don’t have the freedom to read the Word or hear the preached Word like we do. It’s literally a matter of Life or death; death if they got caught and eternal Life if they get caught either way they are going to treasure the Word. To them it’s a golden opportunity to hear directly from God and they a striving for more of Him. My prayer is for a deeper hunger for the Word and preached Word of God, a deeper desire to go to a new dimension in our prayer time and for the hunger and desire to be greater than our necessary food. By obeying the Word we will be nourished.

    John 4:32-35 NLT

But Jesus replied, “I have a kind of food you know nothing about.”
“Did someone bring him food while we were gone?” the disciples asked each other.
Then Jesus explained: “My nourishment comes from doing the will of God, who sent me, and from finishing his work. You know the saying, ‘Four months between planting and harvest.’ But I say, wake up and look around. The fields are already ripe for harvest.

  13. Job 23:8-10 NLT

I go east, but he is not there.
I go west, but I cannot find him. I do not see him in the north, for he is hidden.
I look to the south, but he is concealed. “But he knows where I am going.
And when he tests me, I will come out as pure as gold.

These verses reminded me of the song
    This Test is Your Storm

(Don’t you know the darkest time in your life is) just before the break of dawn. (All your battles I will fight if you just) just hold on, hold on, hold on.

Your tears have been plenty in the still of the night, You’ve prayed, now your empty just to weak to fight. Just hold on through your storm, be strong and hold on, this test is your storm, but it won’t be long, go through, hold on.

You say you’ve been wounded, you’ve given your best, you’ve been misunderstood, but it’s only a test, (This test is your storm), (it won’t be long, go through, hold on).

  14. As Pastor preached last night, even through our storms we give thanks to God because He is allowing us to go through the trials. Job demonstrated this act of faith when he began to lose everything in his life. As His children, thanksgiving should be our mouth continually! Thank you Jesus for your many blessings in my life!!

  15. This chapter reminds me of our daily walk of life. At times, it seems that we cannot hear or feel God. During our trials of life, we seek God, but cant find him. As we lose hope, God lets us know, that he is always by your side, listening to your prayers.

  16. Considering how difficult it is to remain confident in the face of criticism, Job’s view of himself is remarkable. Becoming defensive when someone judges us is natural, and Job has expressed a defensie tone in previous speeches. Here, however, he highlights his righteous track record with absolute confidence. His friends see him as extremely arrogant, but we know that Job speaks the truth about the way God sees him. While no one is truely sinless, the person justified and fogiven by a merciful God is graciously welcomed into His holy presence (Ro 3:10-12,22-26).

  17. This chapter illustrates steadfast. Job did not waiver he held his ground; “But he knoweth the way that I take: when he hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold”. One must be steadfast in the Lord, as long as one is praying, studying and obeying the Word of God, and obeying the man of God all will work out; “The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust”. May the good Lord Bless you all in Jesus name, Amen

  18. 3 Oh that I knew where I might find him! that I might come even to his seat!

    Acts 17:26 And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation;
27 That they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after him, and find him, though he be not far from every one of us:

We have a choice and if we seek after him we will find him. There are times it seems he is no where near, but in those times i believe he is ever so close. Watching over me, keeping me safe from danger and harm.

Oh how he loves you and me! He gave his life so that I could be free! Oh how he loves you and me!

  19. On the left hand, where he doth work, but I cannot behold him: he hideth himself on the right hand, that I cannot see him:

10 But he knoweth the way that I take: when he hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold.

This reminds me of the message Omar Jolly preacher-“The Left Hand of God” and shows that his left hand gives (works) into our lives while his right hand is his power. God knows the way we take-he knows what’s on the road ahead of us and what we are fixing to get ourselves into. He tries us or allows trials to come so that he can cleanse us of things inside we may not know are there! Then it’s comforting to know that when we are treied we shall come forth as gold! I’m thankful as Pastor said for the trials of life because they have an important purpose! Having an attitude of thankfulness will go a long way in helping us overcome.

  20. When you have done all you can do just STAND. Sometimes we feel like God isn’t with us (me) in our battle. But he is looking to see if we are gonna push through or are we gonna give up. Keep standing on God’s word.

I agree with several other people we couldn’t speak last nite of our Pastor and Sis Watts…..but I want to say I appreciate you guys so much you will never know. Thanks for your prayers and for being there when I need you.We love you Pastor and SIs Watts….I pray God blesses you more than you have ever had…..

  21. Setting The Gold Standard

10 But he knoweth the way that I take: when he hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold.

Gold is known for it’s value, but not so much for it’s other qualities. First of these are the ability to bend when enough heat and/or pressuse is applied. We should not bend until it is the Fire from God that will make us to bend in the way that He wants us to be. Second is it’s ability to conduct electricity very well, so much in fact that alot of energy companies are looking for ways to make it cheap enough to use it in lines. The new computers are now running with some gold as the wiring due to the quickness of gold. It is faster to relay on a gold wire than it is on copper. We can put this as , are we as gold that when the spirit of God moves that we relay this to the people around you, or does it decay when it comes into contact with people that its punch isn’t what it should be? We can take many things from the ,”Gold Standard ” idea. When we are pure in God we become heavier for the enemy to move.

  22. 12 Neither have I gone back from the commandment of his lips; I have esteemed the words of his mouth more than my necessary food.

Job’s crushing has brought about an amazing perception of the spiritual side of things. His flesh has been weakened and broken. Now he can see with clarity.

The enemy has truly created a monster so to speak.

Now that Job has nothing left to lose he is able to face life with a passion that will make the enemy tremble.

  23. 11. My foot hath held his steps, his way have I kept, and not declined.

    2 Timothy 4:7
I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:

I pray that these two verses apply to my life
“When the roll is called up yonder”

  24. 12 Neither have I gone back from the
commandment of his lips; I have esteemed the words of his mouth more than my necessary food.

    As I write…I am hungry…
But the material physical food maintains only our body, but not our spirit. If can hunger and crave for His Word just like we do our daily physical food then our spirit will be nourished that when trials like Job’s come we can go to whatever is stored in our hearts to keep our faith strong and alive. Faith comes by hearing the Word of God, but if we never hunger for it, if we never eat of it, how can we get the nutrients to sustain our daily life. Everyday brings its own cares, so we must have an amount of Faith that come from the Word to make it through.
Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.
We we learn to eat what is good for us then our health gets better and we grow and become stronger. Job esteemed the Word of God more than his necessary food. This body will perish and return to the ground but His Words will give us eternal life.
Lord help us to grow a hunger for your Word that way we can have the faith and confess our trust even when we can’t find you..but you are still there!

Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled

  25. iReap A Better Tomorrow In Jesus

8 Behold, I go forward, but he is not there; and backward, but I cannot perceive him:

9 On the left hand, where he doth work, but I cannot behold him: he hideth himself on the right hand, that I cannot see him:

This reminds me of a spinning compass with the needle whirling around as if “north” had fallen off the map, leaving behind confusion and frustration. Yet I am reminded of Psalms:

Psalm 139:1-18 “1 O lord, thou hast searched me, and known me.

2 Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising, thou understandest my thought afar off.

3 Thou compassest my path and my lying down, and art acquainted with all my ways.

4 For there is not a word in my tongue, but, lo, O Lord, thou knowest it altogether.

5 Thou hast beset me behind and before, and laid thine hand upon me.

6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high, I cannot attain unto it.

7 Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence?

8 If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there.

    9 If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea;

10 Even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me.

11 If I say, Surely the darkness shall cover me; even the night shall be light about me.

12 Yea, the darkness hideth not from thee; but the night shineth as the day: the darkness and the light are both alike to thee.

13 For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother’s womb.

14 I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.

15 My substance was not hid from thee, when I was made in secret, and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth.

16 Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them.

17 How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God! how great is the sum of them!

18 If I should count them, they are more in number than the sand: when I awake, I am still with thee.”

This large portion of Psalm 139 seems like a direct answer to Job in this chapter. It ends with the perspective of praise to God for being “fearfully and wonderfully made” by Him. It speaks of the progression of life, bringing to mind Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.”

Job started out early in his trial by cursing the day he was born and lamenting that he had even come into this world and been acquainted with it. Yet we see perhaps God working on his perspective here. Jobs says in v10 “But he knoweth the way that I take: when he hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold.”

Like Psalm 139, there is a progression in life such that even though we are fearfully and wonderfully made, we are not perfect as a human being when we come from our mother’s womb. We may be a perfect (complete, whole) *baby* but we still have a lot of progressing to do to become a perfect (complete, whole) child, adolescent, young adult, etc. Job describes gold tried in the fire, which speaks of gold (still precious) being found in a impure state and going through a process to become more complete, whole as *pure gold.*

This process is meant to be lifelong for us, and at times in the frantic rush that life can be, we are apt to miss that still, small voice of the Lord saying, “I’m still holding you, I’ve still got you safe in My arms; this season will pass, but will you trust Me through it?” At the beginning, it was so bad Job seemed to be ready throw the towel in on life altogether, and to such a degree he wished his life could be “un-done” even. Yet it seems a glimmer of hope has stirred in him as he acknowledges the process of life and how there is good to be found at the end if we endure. God doesn’t leave us or forsake us; no matter how bad today seems, we as children of God have the promise there’s a better tomorrow to be found in Jesus if we will hold on and faint not.

Galatians 6:9 “And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.”

Romans 5:1-9 “1 Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:

2 By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.

    3 And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience;

4 And patience, experience; and experience, hope:

5 And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.

6 For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly.

7 For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die.

8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

9 Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.”

2 Corinthians 4:16-18 “16 For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day.

    17 For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory;

18 While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.”

  26. There are several things in this chapter that I receive from God. Some if them are referenced by my church family, but some are not. The thing that speaks the loudest to me is verse 16.
For God maketh my heart soft, and the Almighty troubleth me: (Job 23:16 KJV)
I have prayed for quiet some time that my heart would be softened and that I would not have a hard heart. I want to have an open heart to God. I want to be moved by the things that move God. I don’t just want to look past the things around me and be desenseitized. I have learned with my softer heart that things hurt more. People tend to upset me with things that used to not bother me. I cry more. I laugh more. I love more. Even though I gat hurt more often, and even with deeper wounds than before, I don’t really want to go back to the old cold Nicoke of before. I am thankful that I can celebrate the things that God has brought me through. I can celebrate that even though I might be uncertain of my father, God is still in control of everything in my life.–Thank you Jesus for answering prayers!

  27. Job held on to his faith in God. When we get into tight situations, it’s not the time to give up. This is where we need to let our faith soar high & trust in God.

  28. 8 Behold, I go forward, but he is not there; and backward, but I cannot perceive him:

Many times it is our fault when we don’t find Jesus. Sometimes He is trying to get us to learn Him, and sometimes He is trying to get us to build the relationship with Him, so that we hungry for more and more of a relationship with Him….
