Job 28

1 Surely there is a vein for the silver, and a place for gold where they fine it.

Iron is taken out of the earth, and brass is molten out of the stone.

He setteth an end to darkness, and searcheth out all perfection: the stones of darkness, and the shadow of death.

The flood breaketh out from the inhabitant; even the waters forgotten of the foot: they are dried up, they are gone away from men.

As for the earth, out of it cometh bread: and under it is turned up as it were fire.

The stones of it are the place of sapphires: and it hath dust of gold.

There is a path which no fowl knoweth, and which the vulture’s eye hath not seen:

The lion’s whelps have not trodden it, nor the fierce lion passed by it.

He putteth forth his hand upon the rock; he overturneth the mountains by the roots.

10 He cutteth out rivers among the rocks; and his eye seeth every precious thing.

11 He bindeth the floods from overflowing; and the thing that is hid bringeth he forth to light.

12 But where shall wisdom be found? and where is the place of understanding?

13 Man knoweth not the price thereof; neither is it found in the land of the living.

14 The depth saith, It is not in me: and the sea saith, It is not with me.

15 It cannot be gotten for gold, neither shall silver be weighed for the price thereof.

16 It cannot be valued with the gold of Ophir, with the precious onyx, or the sapphire.

17 The gold and the crystal cannot equal it: and the exchange of it shall not be for jewels of fine gold.

18 No mention shall be made of coral, or of pearls: for the price of wisdom is above rubies.

19 The topaz of Ethiopia shall not equal it, neither shall it be valued with pure gold.

20 Whence then cometh wisdom? and where is the place of understanding?

21 Seeing it is hid from the eyes of all living, and kept close from the fowls of the air.

22 Destruction and death say, We have heard the fame thereof with our ears.

23 God understandeth the way thereof, and he knoweth the place thereof.

24 For he looketh to the ends of the earth, and seeth under the whole heaven;

25 To make the weight for the winds; and he weigheth the waters by measure.

26 When he made a decree for the rain, and a way for the lightning of the thunder:

27 Then did he see it, and declare it; he prepared it, yea, and searched it out.

28 And unto man he said, Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding.

  1. 28 And unto man he said, Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding.

The fear of the Lord is wisdom; Job 37:5, God thundereth marvelously with his voice; great things doeth he, which we cannot comprehend.
God is doing great things for POFW!

  2. 28 And unto man he said, Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding.

Wisdom isn’t wisdom without understanding. The fear of the Lord is wisdom but understanding makes us apply that wisdom so we don’t sin. Lets be wise and keep a servant’s heart, with love, and understanding.

(Sorry about the blog this morning…was falling asleep while typing )

This chapter is amazing, I would like to mention just a few things quickly…(I haven’t read any other blog yet but can imagine that several have already made the following points)

      First

7 There is a path which no fowl knoweth, and which the vulture’s eye hath not seen:

8 The lion’s whelps have not trodden it, nor the fierce lion passed by it.

      There is a path…

      *what is this path?

This path is in the Spirit. It’s a place where we can go in the Holy Ghost where no devil can go…no unclean vulture can go… No lying lion can go… A place of REST. In this place there is substance that is greater than riches…a place where we pray in the Holy Ghost and build up our most holy faith…

This place is not always easy to find…it requires digging deep…

In whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. (Colossians 2:3 KJV)

Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding. But the path of the just is as the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day. (Proverbs 4:7, 18 KJV)

I’m going to stop with point #1 because I have run out of time…

  4. 28 And unto man he said, Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding.

    Hebrews 11:6
But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

    Psalms 111:10
10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom:
a good understanding have all they that do his commandments:
    his praise endureth for ever.

    Proverbs 1:7
7 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge:
but fools despise wisdom and instruction.

    Proverbs 9:10
10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom:
and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.

This world and its philosophies do not hold the secrets to the universe. Steven Hawking’s knowledge of the complexities of science, and physics do not hold the key.

The teachings of Confucius, Aristotle, Socrates, and Plato cannot give the faintest spark to where true enlightenment comes from.

The fear of The Lord, the respect, awe, and utmost reverence for mighty God is the foundation for all wisdom, and knowledge, and truth.

Amazingly this fountain of knowledge is closer today than ever before.

    John 16:13
13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.

The power of the Holy Ghost within us far surpasses human intellect and perception. His truth is not separate, but solidly connected with the word of God, because he is God.

As we pray and our refreshed today lets remember that the Spirit of God giving the utterance is the same voice that said “Let there be light!”

  5. 20 Whence then cometh wisdom? and where is the place of understanding?
28 And unto man he said, Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding.

I love that we serve a God who holds the answers to the questions we seek. He that hath an ear let him hear. God is speaking to His people, it is up to us to tune in and listen. The answers to lifes questions are not found in the world, physically or spiritually, but in thr fear of the Lord. Our relationship with Jesus and being filled with His spirit is key to the answers we and this world have. If we acknowledge the true source of wisdom and understanding we will gain the benefits, but if we choose to taint it by trying to mix it with the world then what we gain is tainted.

  6. THE 4 STEPS OF UNDERSTANDING

27 Then did he see it, and declare it; he prepared it, yea, and searched it out.

    1. SEE IT = VISION
Proverbs 29:18 Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.

    2. DECLARE IT = PROPHESY
Mark 11:23 For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith.

    3. PREPARE IT = MAKE ROOM/Clean out your heart
1Chronicles 15:12 And said unto them, Ye are the chief of the fathers of the Levites: sanctify yourselves, both ye and your brethren, that ye may bring up the ark of the LORD God of Israel unto the place that I have prepared for it.

    4. SEARCH IT = KNOWLEDGE
Jeremiah 29:13 And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.

God gives us VISION! In a church GOD will give you VISION to align with the VISION of the House of the LORD. (Pastors VISION) Every disciples VISION will support, enhance and build the Pastor’s VISION. When we SEE IT clear enough to SAY IT, we will PREPARE IT and SERCH IT until we FIND/KNOW IT.

Daniel 11:32 And such as do wickedly against the covenant shall he corrupt by flatteries: but the people that do know their God shall be strong, and do exploits.

  7. Job 28:28 KJV

And unto man he said, Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding.
Proverbs 9:10 The fear of the Lord IS the BEGINNING of.WISDOM..
Proverbs 8:14 Counsel is mine, and Sound Wisdom: I AM UNDERSTANDING; I AM STRENGTH.

  8. This chapter illustrates understanding. Job’s comprehension was revealed; “Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding”. One that is wise will understand all is for not, if one does not have Jesus; “The fear of the LORD is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death”. May the good Lord Bless you all in Jesus name, Amen

  9. 8 Solomon answered God, “You have shown great kindness to David my father and have made me king in his place. 9 Now, Lord God, let your promise to my father David be confirmed, for you have made me king over a people who are as numerous as the dust of the earth. 10 Give me wisdom and knowledge, that I may lead this people, for who is able to govern this great people of yours?”

11 God said to Solomon, “Since this is your heart’s desire and you have not asked for wealth, possessions or honor, nor for the death of your enemies, and since you have not asked for a long life but for wisdom and knowledge to govern my people over whom I have made you king, 12 therefore wisdom and knowledge will be given you. And I will also give you wealth, possessions and honor, such as no king who was before you ever had and none after you will have.”

Job makes it clear we cannot purchase or find wisdom, but Solomon shows to obtain it, sometimes all we must do is ask.

  10. 28 And unto man he said, Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding.

What a Revelation: Wisdon and understanding are 2 DIFFERENT things

True wisdom is to fear the Lord. When we reverance God we fear Him, and we begin to have wisdom.

True understanding comes when we depart from our evil ways. When we quit sinnind.

We can have one without the other. Many churches around the world, fear God. They have reverance for His ways, and their doctorinal traditions, whether they are right or wrong, they still fear God. But understanding, that’s when we depart from sin. The bible tells us that understanding comes from the reading and the hearing of the word. It does not tell us that understanding comes from some elloquant spearker’s inticing words. It comes from the word.

Thank you Jesus for this beautiful revelation.

  11. In this scripture, it is apparent that Wisdom is not for sale. You can have much riches and still be void of wisdom. Wisdom is not for sale! You want wisdom, in the word says ask God, he gives it liberally. Guess what, he gives it for free, at least not a monetary value. There is a wisdom gained in experience in life, and definately in knowing the written word. His word preserves us, and he saved us “Word made Flesh”. In the following verse, is a great expression of truth, and true wisdom. Do you got it? I do?

28 And unto man he said, Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding.

    “Be Church”…iwork…igive…ipray…ireap……………….

  12. Those with knowledge are able to collect, remember, and access information. They “know” the Scriptures
Those with understanding are able to abstract the meaning out of information. They “see through” the facts to the dynamics of what, how, and why
Those with wisdom know which principle to apply now. Understanding without wisdom can appear contradictory (Prov 26:4-5)

Jam 1:5 (NIV) If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him.

So from these three principals it shows we must read, study and learn the word.

  13. Finding Wisdom

28 And unto man he said, Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding.

This chapter starts with looking for wisdom in a physical place and realizing it is not tied to a place but an attitude of the heart. Too often this world says, we have wisdom here! Just read this book… go to this college… follow this Twitter-osopher (Twitter philosopher)… go to this lecture/conference… sometimes even, go to this church… listen to this preacher…

All these things may certainly assist in finding wisdom, but at the end of the day wisdom still is found not simply without but is dependent on the inward condition of a heart that fears God.

Proverbs 9:10 “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.”

Psalm 111:10 “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do his commandments: his praise endureth for ever.”

Proverbs 15:33 “The fear of the LORD is the instruction of wisdom; and before honour is humility.”

If this is the root, then we cannot expect to have true godly wisdom without passing through this gate of properly fearing God. We can try to take a surface understanding of things with our carnal mind and piece together information, but we will lack true godly wisdom because godly wisdom is something that requires a change in us and not just a simple educational experience. The latter half of James 3 gives a description of this concept of true wisdom from God vs ungodly wisdom:

James 3:9-17 “9 Therewith bless we God, even the Father; and therewith curse we men, which are made after the similitude of God.

10 Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be.

11 Doth a fountain send forth at the same place sweet water and bitter?

12 Can the fig tree, my brethren, bear olive berries? either a vine, figs? so can no fountain both yield salt water and fresh.

13 Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? let him shew out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom.

14 But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth.

15 This wisdom descendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish.

16 For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work.

17 But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.”

1 Kings 19:9-13 “9 And he came thither unto a cave, and lodged there; and, behold, the word of the Lord came to him, and he said unto him, What doest thou here, Elijah?

10 And he said, I have been very jealous for the Lord God of hosts: for the children of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, thrown down thine altars, and slain thy prophets with the sword; and I, even I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.

11 And he said, Go forth, and stand upon the mount before the Lord. And, behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and brake in pieces the rocks before the Lord; but the Lord was not in the wind: and after the wind an earthquake; but the Lord was not in the earthquake:

12 And after the earthquake a fire; but the Lord was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice.

13 And it was so, when Elijah heard it, that he wrapped his face in his mantle, and went out, and stood in the entering in of the cave. And, behold, there came a voice unto him, and said, What doest thou here, Elijah?”

Too often we look for wisdom as a big showy thing (rock-breaking wind, earthquake, fire) but miss that still small voice of God tugging at our heart, leading us to repentance that He might fill us with godly wisdom and understanding.

Isaiah 33:5-6 NLT “Though the Lord is very great and lives in heaven, he will make Jerusalem his home of justice and righteousness. 6 In that day he will be your sure foundation, providing a rich store of salvation, wisdom, and knowledge. The fear of the Lord will be your treasure.”

Revelation 21:2-3 “2 And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. 3 And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God.”

  14. 28 And unto man he said, Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding.

Job’s declaration to his friends was that it takes work to refine precious jewels. Wisdom is a precious jewel. Learned only by reading and putting the pages of His word into our hearts that we might not sin against Him.

David also learned this great lesson when he penned Psalms 111:10 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom. All who seek will find, its just a matter of taking the time to seek and know Him.

  15. Job 28:23-28 23 God understandeth the way thereof, and he knoweth the place thereof.

    24 For he looketh to the ends of the earth, and seeth under the whole heaven;

True wisdom cannot be purchase its beyond price and has its sourse in God.

  16. If you were given the option to pick between:
    Heaven or Hell?
    Lifetime or Eternity?
Silver /Gold or Grain of Sand?

    Which would you pick?

The first two would be a no brainer. We would pick heaven over hell and Eternity over a Lifetime any day. But who picks a grain of sand over Silver/gold. At face value the silver/gold is worth more at the end of the day. Or is it?

1 Surely there is a vein for the silver, and a place for gold where they fine it.

Silver and gold can never be more then silver or gold, Sure it can be transformed into something else but at its core it still JUST silver and gold. Kind of like the devil. He can and will transform himself into whatever appeals to the flesh, but his core never changes…he’s still evil. And Just like silver and gold, the devil can be found everywhere and takes little work to get it.

But what is a grain of sand worth? Its worth a whole lot more then silver or gold. How? Its simply just a mineral. But it’s mineral God can transform into pearl. For a pearl is simply just a grain of sand that battled the seas. Got pushed, pulled and knocked around. But during the battle, it was transformed. Not overnight, but over time. It went from being worth nothing to being worth something. It’s the journey that shaped it. Its battle of the seas that allowed it to come full circle.

While silver and gold may hold a higher value on earth, as followers of Jesus Christ we must NOT always go with the higher earthly value, because silver and gold just that, and can never become more.

But if we view ourselves as the mineral who has to face the raging sea (trails) as not a punishment but as tool to transform us into servants God needs us to be, then we can never lose value.

28 And unto man he said, Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding.

For it’s through those storms that we learn what a mighty God we serve. And riches of this earth don’t carry over. For our true reward lies at the end of our journey.

  17. Verses 23-28 MSG “God alone knows the way to Wisdom,
he knows the exact place to find it.
He knows where everything is on earth,
    he sees everything under heaven.
After he commanded the winds to blow
    and measured out the waters,
    Arranged for the rain
and set off explosions of thunder and lightning,
    He focused on Wisdom,
made sure it was all set and tested and ready.
Then he addressed the human race: ‘Here it is!
    Fear-of-the-Lord—that’s Wisdom,
    and Insight means shunning evil.”

God alone, he knows…..he sees, he commanded, he arranged, he focused and he addressed. Thank you Jesus for leading me in the direction you want for my life.

  18. Finding true wisdom and understanding in God is a journey. When first getting into the church I didn’t understand the Man of God when he said that none of us have arrived and I’m still learning. I now understand that the fullness of this gospel keeps revealing itself and Gods wisdom is unending. As I seek him more and more on this journey I understand the words of the Man of God more and more. Although the journey has just begun for our family I understand the Holy Ghost brings wisdom that we cannot earn. His understanding has opened my eyes to see the truth. I pray that the journey continues to amaze me through this gospel. Amen

  19. Job shares wisdom, and where to look for it. He knows you don’t buy wisdom, wisdom isn’t dug out of the earth. It’s not easily made out of silver nor gold, it can’t be molded into wisdom. He explains that God is wisdom, to respect god is wisdom, to fear God is wisdom, to turn away from sin is wisdom, to seek God is wisdom. To choose God from evil is wisdom. Wisdom can be found through God’s word.

Lord grant me the knowledge, wisdom and understanding necessary to overcome carnality. Lord shine on me, may your Holy Splrit rain on me forever.

  20. 28 And unto man he said, Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding.

Ps111: 10 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do his commandments: his praise endureth for ever.

7 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.

Thank the Lord for his word that gives us insight into obtaining wisdom.

Prov 4:7 Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.

  21. Job was learning that to fear and reverence the LORD was wisdom. He yearned for a deeper knowledge of JESUS CHRIST, and HIS GREATNESS .
We should also desire a teachable spirit to become dedicated Christians . As we point people to JESUS CHRIST and not to how wise we are but how Great and Excellent JESUS IS.

That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of man but in the power of GOD.
    1 Corinthians 2:4-5

  22. Everyone wants to find wisdom at no cost. Mankind has learned to search, probe, dig, and mine for treasure. But, the true wisdom is priceless, literally worth more than rubies (Prov 8:9-11). We are prone to believe that we are wise or that we can become so by some avenue apart from God. But here Job reminds us that the invaluable spiritual commodity of wisdom cannot be found on earth, nor can it be purchased for any price. Jesus spoke this same message in Matt16:2 “He replied, you know the saying, ‘Red sky at night means fair weather tomorrow; 3 red sky in the morning means foul weather all day.’ You know how to interpret the weather signs in the sky, but you don’t know how to interpret the signs of the times!a 4 Only an evil, adulterous generation would demand a miraculous sign, but the only sign I will give them is the sign of the prophet Jonah.” Men who do not turn to God for wisdom will not find it at all, signs meant to be filled with knowledge can be missed all together. Weather is of natural knowledge, obviously because it effects everyone, this is much the same problem for supernatural wisdom and spiritual understanding. Paul handed this message to the Corinthians in1Cor 3:2 “when I was with you I couldn’t talk to you as I would to spiritual people. I had to talk as though you belonged to this world or as though you were infants in the Christian life. 2 I had to feed you with milk, not with solid food, because you weren’t ready for anything stronger. And you still aren’t ready, 3 for you are still controlled by your sinful nature.” Once we have found the source of wisdom (Jesus) then we have to submit ourselves with a servants heart, commited for God to trust us with this divine knowledge Job stands firm upon.

No matter how great how great our mastery of the physical world may become, God alone is great enough enough to understand all things and discern all mysteries. After all, God and wisdom have dwelled together since the begining of time (Pr 8:22-31). When we approach people or problems with the presumption of our own wisdom, we are likely to do damage, just as Job’s friends have done. How much wiser could we be silent before our friends, and let God who sees and knows all draw whatever conclusions need to be made.

  23. 28 And unto man he said, Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding.

Just think of Soloman in all of his wisdom. He must have greatly feared the Lord. Sometimes I wonder about my sensitivity to the Lord. We were talking to the kids about trains the other day. One of the kids said, “Yeah I see trains all the time. It is no big deal.” I want so bad not to ever adapt that attitude toward God and everything that he gives us/does for us. God gives us air in our lungs. We wakes us. He lets us move. He provides us food and gives us shelter. He is our rock, our fortress, our comforter, our beginning, our end, our healer, our salvation. He is everything and more all the time. God let me never take anything for granted.

  24. Job 28

    12. But where shall wisdom be found? And where is the place of understanding?

    28. And unto man he said, Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding.

This chapter made me think a lot about proverbs and what king Solomon wrote in regards to wisdom.
The only way to live life and prosper is to acquire wisdom.  The Lord gives wisdom. That is the only way to acquire it.

    Proverbs 2:
1 My son, if thou wilt receive my words,
    and hide my commandments with thee;
2 So that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom,
    and apply thine heart to understanding;
3 Yea, if thou criest after knowledge,
    and liftest up thy voice for understanding;
4 If thou seekest her as silver,
    and searchest for her as for hid treasures;
5 Then shalt thou understand the fear of the Lord,
and find the knowledge of God.
6 For the Lord giveth wisdom:
out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding.

But how do we obtain this wisdom from the Lord?

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge:
but fools despise wisdom and instruction. Proverbs 1:7

In simple words, to obey, respect, honor, and fear God is the wisest way to live life because like the word says,

Happy is the man that findeth wisdom,
and the man that getteth understanding.
14 For the merchandise of it is better than the merchandise of silver,
and the gain thereof than fine gold.
15 She is more precious than rubies:
and all the things thou canst desire are not to be compared unto her.
    16  Length of days is in her right hand;
and in her left hand riches and honour.
17 Her ways are ways of pleasantness,
and all her paths are peace.
18 She is a tree of life to them that lay hold upon her:
and happy is every one that retaineth her.
    Proverbs 3:13-18

  25. 11 He bindeth the floods from overflowing; and the thing that is hid bringeth he forth to light.

Light will shine on those things that we try to keep hidden. God is that light house that shines in this dark and evil world. Even though there may be darkness around you, let your light shine, so that men may see your good works and glorify the father. When light enters, darkness has to flee, it’s the law (Word) of God.

  26. “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.” Colossians 3:16 KJV HALELUJAH!!!
