Psalm 38

1 O Lord, rebuke me not in thy wrath: neither chasten me in thy hot displeasure.

For thine arrows stick fast in me, and thy hand presseth me sore.

There is no soundness in my flesh because of thine anger; neither is there any rest in my bones because of my sin.

For mine iniquities are gone over mine head: as an heavy burden they are too heavy for me.

My wounds stink and are corrupt because of my foolishness.

I am troubled; I am bowed down greatly; I go mourning all the day long.

For my loins are filled with a loathsome disease: and there is no soundness in my flesh.

I am feeble and sore broken: I have roared by reason of the disquietness of my heart.

Lord, all my desire is before thee; and my groaning is not hid from thee.

10 My heart panteth, my strength faileth me: as for the light of mine eyes, it also is gone from me.

11 My lovers and my friends stand aloof from my sore; and my kinsmen stand afar off.

12 They also that seek after my life lay snares for me: and they that seek my hurt speak mischievous things, and imagine deceits all the day long.

13 But I, as a deaf man, heard not; and I was as a dumb man that openeth not his mouth.

14 Thus I was as a man that heareth not, and in whose mouth are no reproofs.

15 For in thee, O Lord, do I hope: thou wilt hear, O Lord my God.

16 For I said, Hear me, lest otherwise they should rejoice over me: when my foot slippeth, they magnify themselves against me.

17 For I am ready to halt, and my sorrow is continually before me.

18 For I will declare mine iniquity; I will be sorry for my sin.

19 But mine enemies are lively, and they are strong: and they that hate me wrongfully are multiplied.

20 They also that render evil for good are mine adversaries; because I follow the thing that good is.

21 Forsake me not, O Lord: O my God, be not far from me.

22 Make haste to help me, O Lord my salvation.

  1. This is definately not where anyone of us should be. It is obviously a time of trial and testing, but better yet confession and repentance is needed. So, he is experiencing many enemies and he knows God is his hope.

Isn’t this how it works, in your moment of weakness or if you slip. There are many observers ready to magnify your mistake. Especially those unbelievers who are just waiting to pounce like a lion. To say things in a negative way, like he calls himself a Christian.

    Christian.

  2. I understand that the psalms is a prayer of David, but Psalm by definition is a sacred song or hymn used in worship. I am thankful that we sing songs of worship and uplifting in church and not ones like these.

I Get Joy when I think about what he’s done for me

  3. True Repentance

Thank you Jesus for you are only a Cry away and You always there when we need you. Thank You for your Mercy that is everlasting…

    • ILove to eat breakfast with Jesus in a foreign land.

      “Houston, We Have a Solution.”

What a concept, to let an invisible God fight our visible challenges.

13 But I, as a deaf man, heard not; and I was as a dumb man that openeth not his mouth.

14 Thus I was as a man that heareth not, and in whose mouth are no reproofs.

15 For in thee, O Lord, do I hope: thou wilt hear, O Lord my God.

LET GOD ARISE AND LET US HOLD OUR TONGUE.

  4. 22 Hurry and help me, O Lord, my deliverer!
    NET

We live in a Right Now time, we want everything NOW. Internet, food, service all now. Yet when talking to God we have to rember He’s on His time which is always right on time. It may not be the right Now you wanted. Buts it going to be at the time you need it.

  5. Oh Lord forgive me even though it was my fault I did stupid things that were wrong please forgive me. basically is what this verse is saying that even though we may do something and know that it was a stupid thing we had done that we can still go to the Lord and repent and ask for forgiveness.

  6. I love the Lord that He hears me when i ask for forgiveness.
    He always hears me.
Went to church lastnight at Bro/pastor Shindols in hurst and the Lord heard my cry~prayer.
I will always love pofw but prayer works. I live too far from church.
Thank u Lord for forgiving me from my sins.
    I love u Jesus.
    …..NOW

  7. 13 But I, as a deaf man, heard not; and I was as a dumb man that openeth not his mouth. When we find ourselves vulnerable to ridicule among unbelievers or worse, those who once believed we must stand firm in our faith that God will see us through. 1 John 4:4 “…greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.” We not only have the power to resist the devil we have the authority to make him leave!!!

  8. 15 For in thee, O Lord, do I hope: thou wilt hear, O Lord my God.

God wants us to seek him in all situations. When we feel overwelmed do we go towards God or from him?
This is an older song that explains this verse

It’s my desire to live for Jesus,
    It’s my desire to be just like Him;
Though often I’ve failed Him and brought Him much shame,
It’s my desire to live for Him.

It’s my desire to help someone today,
    Someone who may have failed to see the way;
I, too, was once so lost, but I found my way to God,
It’s my desire to live for Him.

If you could see where Jesus brought me from
    To where I am today
Then you would know the reason why I love Him so,
Now you can take this world’s wealth and riches,
    I don’t need earth’s power
It’s my desire (it’s my desire)
It’s my desire (its my desire)
It’s my desire to live for Him (live for Him)

  9. HEAR NO EVIL AND SPEAK NO EVIL

13 But I, as a deaf man, heard not; and I was as a dumb man that openeth not his mouth.
14 Thus I was as a man that heareth not, and in whose mouth are no reproofs.
15 For in thee, O Lord, do I hope: thou wilt hear, O Lord my God.

It has been stated and rightly so; “don’t believe everything that is written about you”. It is wise to consider how others view or perceive us, however it is foolish to only listen to what others say about you.

    What is important?

What does the LORD say bout me?

People will always have differing thoughts or opinions based on their own personal experience. In times of testing and trying we must learn to turn a deaf ear and offer a dumb tongue toward the negative comments or railing accusations of others.

Our HOPE is in JESUS and as the writer of Hebrews proclaimed:
Hebrews 4:13 Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do.

We ALL answer to JESUS. I seek and desire to keep my heart, mind, soul and spirit right with HIM.

  10. 13 But I, as a deaf man, heard not; and I was as a dumb man that openeth not his mouth.

14 Thus I was as a man that heareth not, and in whose mouth are no reproofs.

Keeping silent is never easy, especially if you feel you have a right to advenge yourself, or even make a valid point. But sometimes saying nothing, as David exhibits in this chapter, says more than words can say. A good lesson for us that always feel like we have to have the last word, or prove our point. If we allow God’s word and our testimony to be the light it may say more than we could. They say actions say louder than words, maybe we should be silent in some areas, and allow our actions to speak for us.

  11. This chapter illustrates open. David admitted his shortcomings and sins, and cried out to God. One must be open with God and turn from sin, if one wants to draw closer; “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness”. May the good Lord Bless you all in Jesus name, Amen

  12. 12 They also that seek after my life lay snares for me: and they that seek my hurt speak mischievous things, and imagine deceits all the day long.

13 But I, as a deaf man, heard not; and I was as a dumb man that openeth not his mouth.

14 Thus I was as a man that heareth not, and in whose mouth are no reproofs.

15 For in thee, O Lord, do I hope: thou wilt hear, O Lord my God.

We can’t let the word of the enemy grow stronger than the word of our God. If we shut out the voice of the enemy all together it is the strongest way to no give him place. Battles are won in our mind before we ever step on the battle field. If we shut the devil up and lean on the word of God then our victory is sure.

  13. v18 For I will declare mine iniquity;
I will be sorry for my sin.

    Sin
Sin is a binding power and it’s effects are works of the flesh. Gal.5:19-21

We see these effects in our daily newspaper
    murder, robberies,violent crimes and assaults
all results of sin . The same could be said spiritually .

Cleanse both flesh and spirit. 1 Thess.5:23

Thank GOD for HIS plan of salvation.
We are so precious to GOD HIS act of love demonstrated that.( I know it was HIS BLOOD.) I’m thankful for HIS gift. HE has given us ACCESS to redemption from sin.

We must be born again of the water and the spirit. John 3:1-5

    As we learned in leadership.
” With the Holy Ghost there is nothing you can’t do. We’ve got ACCESS to GOD 24/7″

In verse 18 the Psalmist awakens his I will’s

    iWill Pray
iWill repent of my sins. Hear and apply GOD’S Word in my life.
iWill be sorry for my sins.
iWill open my mouth and confess my sins.
iWill not be bound by sin. Sin will not keep me deaf nor dumb…….

Because JESUS set me free. We can lay all of our hopes in HIM. HE IS our HOPE that does not disappoint.

  14. 13 But I, as a deaf man, heard not; and I was as a dumb man that openeth not his mouth.

I have always heard the saying, If you can’t say something good about someone, say nothing at all.The problem is,very few people do this.
We do not need to listen to people that are always saying negative things about people, they are not good for you.
If you here that someone is speaking evil of you, keep doing good and don’t let a bad spirit get on you,God knows and will take care of the problem,if we will just pray about it.Nothing good can come out of getting them back.

If you are a child of God,remember He always has your back!!!Thankful I know who my Father is!!!

  15. 16 For I said, Hear me, lest otherwise they should rejoice over me: when my foot slippeth, they magnify themselves against me.

17 For I am ready to halt, and my sorrow is continually before me.

18 For I will declare mine iniquity; I will be sorry for my sin.

I am so glad that God is the one that judges and not men. We all make mistakes, we all sin. When conviction quicks in we realize the intensity of our wrong and humbly come back crawling, repented before the presence of the Lord. Confessing our sin, and turning away from it, the Lord forgives us, but men tend to be harsher than God. Men tends to judge without compassion and begins to talk, to spread out rumors…look at so and so. Look what their doing now? And instead of helping like the bible tells us to do they kick you when your low. However the Lord, looks with compassion and extends His mercy and grace to a soul. A broken soul by wrong decisions, and says I will fix the broken and make it beautiful. It is what we do when all things are rising up against in the process of repentance. Remember that in the end He is the righteous judge and His opinion matters most. Thank you Jesus

  16. 21 Forsake me not, O Lord: O my God, be not far from me.

I found that in the middle of my storms, Jesus is still right there with His hand stretched toward me. It is at that point that it becomes my choice as to whether I turn to Him for my comfort, help, my refuge, or I retreat to the frailties of this world to seek refuge in…

  17. 13 But I, as a deaf man, heard not; and I was as a dumb man that openeth not his mouth.

In times of great trial its better to hold your tongue and speak no evil. It is also better to turn a deaf ear to the enemy in order to keep your mind in peace. We must not give place for the enemy to creep in and take over.

  18. Because of my wounds, my friends and neighbors avoid me, and my relatives stay far away. (Psalms 38:11 NCV)

In these times of trouble is when we need others to help.

The Spirit of the Sovereign L ord is upon me, for the L ord has anointed me to bring good news to the poor. He has sent me to comfort the brokenhearted and to proclaim that captives will be released and prisoners will be freed. He has sent me to tell those who mourn that the time of the L ord ’s favor has come, and with it, the day of God’s anger against their enemies. To all who mourn in Israel, he will give a crown of beauty for ashes, a joyous blessing instead of mourning, festive praise instead of despair. In their righteousness, they will be like great oaks that the L ord has planted for his own glory. (Isaiah 61:1-3 NLT)

  19. Verses 14-15 NLT read “I choose to hear nothing, and I make no reply. For I am waiting for you, O Lord. You must answer for me, O Lord my God.” Many times, it is best to just keep quiet, get out of the way and let the Lord have his way.

  20. David begs God to stop disipline him describing his emotional turmol and physical sufferings yet even when troubled by his sins David waits for the Lord confident my God will save

  21. 17-18, “For I am ready to halt, and my sorrow is continually before me. For I will declare mine iniquity; I will be sorry for my sin.”

2 Cor. 7:9-10, “Now I rejoice, not that ye were made sorry, but that ye sorrowed to repentance: for ye were made sorry after a godly manner, that ye might receive damage by us in nothing. For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death.”

I believe David is saying, “Alright, I’ve had enough, I’m ready to surrender, I”m ready to stop. I’m ready to confess my sins.” He had conviction of the heart.

Like David, in order for any man to change, we must come to that place in our lives and say, “I’ve had enough, I’m ready to surrender, I’m ready to stop.” Then that godly sorrow (that soul searching conviction of the heart) can take over, and we can come to a place of repentance and find salvation in Christ Jesus our Lord.

  22. 13 But I, as a deaf man, heard not; and I was as a dumb man that openeth not his mouth.

David refused to entertain the voice of the wicked. He chose to use his hears for something other than a trash can.

Solomon said to guard the heart. If we are what we eat I would rather hear the splendid wonders of the word of The Lord, than the trash of the enemy.

  23. king David knows that God sees his iniquity and that his wrath can be unpleasant. what stands out to me is that he humbly declares his iniquity before God, because he must go back to God’s good graces. so therefore , he says make haste to help me, O lord my salvation. what an example

  24. 5 For in thee, O Lord, do I hope: thou wilt hear, O Lord my God.

I had my first opportunity to talk with my Dad about the Bible and we went t hrough the Tabernacle in the wilderness. I do hope in the Lord for my Dads salvation-he has heard the many prayers for him!
Its just a start – but with God, a door has started opening! Thank you Jesus!

  25. PSALMS 38:4 FOR MY INIQUITIES HAVE GONE OVER MY HEAD; LIKE A HEAVY BURDEN THEY ARE TOO HEAVY FOR ME. I KNOW THAT WHEN I CANT HANDLE SOMETHING BIG OR ITS OVER MY HEAD GOD IS WITH ME AND HE WILL TAKE OVER. PRAISE YOU JESUS!

  26. 18 For I will declare mine iniquity; I will be sorry for my sin.

Repentance is a privilege! As long as we have breathe in our body We have an opportunity to declare our sin before God and turn from it unto the path of righteousness.

Psaml 51:9 Hide thy face from my sins, and blot out all mine iniquities.
10 Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.
11 Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me.

  27. Oh Lord, when you hear me it lifts my soul. Many things bring us down, but here in Psalms David tells us that it lifts him when he speaks with God. That is very wonderful now that we are walking with Jesus after baptisms and other spiritual things too.

  28. the first 3 verses of this chapter show the seriousness of the writer. he was fearful of God’s judgement. In this day in age I don’t believe people fear God enough anymore. The thought of God being angry with them does not bother them. But the Bible says let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter, fear God keep his commandments for this is the whole dutie of man. there’s nothing wrong with a healthy dose of the fear of God.

  29. Humility Under The Hand Of God

Others may not understand our circumstances and may judge us wrongly, but that doesn’t mean we have to go and set it right. There comes a time in certain trouble when we must realize the situation is between us and God and we have to tune out interference. It’s like Bro Greene’s message about “Bullfrogs & Butterflies” going through their transformation process, the butterfly has to go by way of a chrysalis for it’s change. A chrysalis involves being closed in and have your “world” fall apart and get put back together in a radically new way. And then after that is done, getting out is a struggle, however, it is proposed that this very struggle for freedom is what helps the butterfly’s wings to become prepared for their soon use. If the butterfly tried to abort its transformation process to go deal with outside issues, it would be devastating. So must we be careful not to try to leap up when God has us on the operating table.

    1 Peter 5:6-7
6 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: 7 Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.

Humble yourself, God is working! We cried for Him to work and He is! But will we submit?

And how do we submit under His mighty hand? By casting all our cares on Him.

That means “letting the haters hate” and trusting God. That means letting Him be King in our world, Author of our life, Ruler of our hearts. God is working! Rejoice and praise Him, trust Him and cast every care on Him! Hold nothing back so He has permission to work freely in our lives!

    1 Peter 5:10
But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you.

God’s process is designed to bring us to completion, will we trust Him to fulfill His will in us?

    Jeremiah 29:11-14
11 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end. 12 Then shall ye call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you. 13 And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart. 14 And I will be found of you, saith the Lord: and I will turn away your captivity, and I will gather you from all the nations, and from all the places whither I have driven you, saith the Lord; and I will bring you again into the place whence I caused you to be carried away captive.

After the consecration of repenting, becoming humble, and submitting, we can rejoice in faith as the harvest comes!

    NOW is our time!

    Psalm 126
1 When the Lord turned again the captivity of Zion, we were like them that dream. 2 Then was our mouth filled with laughter, and our tongue with singing: then said they among the heathen, The Lord hath done great things for them. 3 The Lord hath done great things for us; whereof we are glad. 4 Turn again our captivity, O Lord, as the streams in the south. 5 They that sow in tears shall reap in joy. 6 He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him.

  30. A sincere plea before God….

It is important that we repent before God. We must not be fooled into thinking that God will just overlook our sins. The devil wants us to think that. The reality of it is, God will hold us accountable for every sin if we don’t repent. Repentance lets God know you want to get it right with him and have every past sin removed. God is still looking for those who truly want to follow his Word and live a life holiness.

  31. 13 But I, as a deaf man, heard not; and I was as a dumb man that openeth not his mouth.
14 Thus I was as a man that heareth not, and in whose mouth are no reproofs.
15 For in thee, O Lord, do I hope: thou wilt hear, O Lord my God.

I am reminded of when Jesus was crusified, how the scriptures say that He was as a lamb taken to the slaughter. Without word. Sometimes I have gotten angry at a situation and when I have prayed, i had felt to stay quiet. Then as quickly as it arose , it went away. Seek ye first the kingdom of God.

  32. Divine Chastisement

3 There is no soundness in my flesh because of thine anger; neither is there any rest in my bones because of my sin.

4 For mine iniquities are gone over mine head: as an heavy burden they are too heavy for me.

God has been known to punish sinful people with physical illness (see what happened to King Uzziah in 2Ch 26:16-20). We don’t know if David’s illness is a direct result of divine chastisment, but David clearly thinks it is. His estrangment from God causes him enormous suffering, “too heavy to bear.” (vs4).In spite of his physical and mental anguish, however, David does not without from the Lord and hide in a corner. Rather, he keeps his side of the communication ongoing, pouring out his heart to God and trusting in Him in spite of his circumstances. The final words of this penitential psalm reveal David’s faith: “Be not far from me, Oh Lord my Savior.” (Ps 38:21-22). Even though David feels rebuked and peirced by God he still knows that he belongs to the Lord and can depend on Him. So can we.
