Psalm 39

1 I said, I will take heed to my ways, that I sin not with my tongue: I will keep my mouth with a bridle, while the wicked is before me.

I was dumb with silence, I held my peace, even from good; and my sorrow was stirred.

My heart was hot within me, while I was musing the fire burned: then spake I with my tongue,

Lord, make me to know mine end, and the measure of my days, what it is: that I may know how frail I am.

Behold, thou hast made my days as an handbreadth; and mine age is as nothing before thee: verily every man at his best state is altogether vanity. Selah.

Surely every man walketh in a vain shew: surely they are disquieted in vain: he heapeth up riches, and knoweth not who shall gather them.

And now, Lord, what wait I for? my hope is in thee.

Deliver me from all my transgressions: make me not the reproach of the foolish.

I was dumb, I opened not my mouth; because thou didst it.

10 Remove thy stroke away from me: I am consumed by the blow of thine hand.

11 When thou with rebukes dost correct man for iniquity, thou makest his beauty to consume away like a moth: surely every man is vanity. Selah.

12 Hear my prayer, O Lord, and give ear unto my cry; hold not thy peace at my tears: for I am a stranger with thee, and a sojourner, as all my fathers were.

13 O spare me, that I may recover strength, before I go hence, and be no more.

  1. In this scripture, it is appatent that devine intervention is needed with a whole lot of mercy. You don’t want the Lord to be angry with you. We need his love and mercy, and his forgiveness. He is our strength, so we must try to stay focused on the journey.

    “Now”…..

  2. v5 Behold, thou hast made my days as an hanbreadth; and mine age is nothing before thee: verily every man at his best state is altogether vanity. Selah.

Verse 5 tells no one is born good.” We have all sinned and come short of the glory of God” Romans 3:23

The Psalmist speaks of death and life is short as does Job spoke of our appointment with death . Job 14:5
So we know that death is an appointment.
Only GOD knows the length of each of our lives, but we do not possess such knowledge.

It’s been said before we should plan as if we expected a long life and live as if we expected death in the next moment.

I choose everlasting life through obedience to His Word. HE saved and redeemed us from sin’s consequences, restored our honor, worth and reputation.
I’m thankful for His Precious Blood!
    Only JESUS can do that!!!
    HE IS THE ANSWER.

” In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality”
    1 Corinthians 15:52-53

    iPray
    iChoose to obey
    iShall be raised
    iShall be changed
iShall put on incorruption and immortality.
    iShall have everlasting life
iAm redeemed by the blood of the lamb.

Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof. Proverbs 18:21

    NOW !

  3. Life is short and fragile. We do not have time to play with God and his business. We need to not get close to the world but remain a separated people.

  4. Life Is Temporary Assignment
Lord, remind me how brief my time on earth will be. Remind me that my days are numbered, and that my life is fleeing away.
    Psalm 39:4

David prayed, “Lord, help me to realize how brief my time on earth will be. Help me to know that Iam here for but a moment more.”
    Reach the Lost NOW !

  5. A guarded mouth–
Bridle my mouth, I was dumb–I kept my mouth closed. We have such power in our mouthes. We don’t realize all the power we have. Power to create, power to condemn. It is better for us to just keep our mouthes closed than to pop off at the mouth all the time. Some people have explosive problems with their m

  6. Mouthes. They don’t filter. If you say any and every stinky thing that you say-whoa to you when you have to take account for every word spoken. Lord help us all to bridle our mouthes so that we can edify you with every word spoken.

  7. You have made my life no longer than the width of my hand. My entire lifetime is just a moment to you; at best, each of us is but a breath.” Interlude (Psalms 39:5 NLT)

Our time on this earth is short. There isn’t time to play games with God. We need to win the lost, save the sinners and impact Fort Worth now! There’s no time to lose. Lord I pray a burden of urgency!

So glad I can always turn to the Lord no matter what it is I am going through. He truely is my Deliverer, my Healer, my Provider, my Protector. He created me and his wisdom is far beyond my own. I will submit and obey the Lord for I know his plan is far better than mine and I trust in him with all my heart. I will be faithful to him because he is always faithful to me

  10. NOW

7 And now, Lord, what wait I for? my hope is in thee.

    This scripture possesses many applications.

NOW, I wait on the one my HOPE is in.

NOW, I know who my HOPE is in.

NOW, I wait no longer the one my HOPE is in leads me.

NOW, pursue HOPE, follow HOPE, value HOPE.

Romans 5:5 And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.

HOPE is lived by walking in the Spirit. BE FILLED with the Holy Ghost every day! HOPE for our future is NOW in the Holy Ghost.

  11. 9 I was dumb, I opened not my mouth; because thou didst it.

I understand that in this verse the word dumb means someone who cannot speak. But in reading it I see that hen you are dumb, think before speaking.

  12. “L ord , remind me how brief my time on earth will be. Remind me that my days are numbered— how fleeting my life is. You have made my life no longer than the width of my hand. My entire lifetime is just a moment to you; at best, each of us is but a breath.” Interlude (Psalms 39:4, 5 NLT)

This reminds me of Sunday school sticker I once got. It said, “Life is fragile. Handle it with prayer.” I want to be in the presence of God daily to become more like him. I’ve got to lose my identity.

  13. We are here for just a blink of time. Now is the time to do something. We never know when he will take us home. Live like you have no tomorrow. My hope is in The Lord because he holds the keys to the unknown.

  14. I’m determined to watch steps and tongue so they won’t land me in trouble. I decided to hold my tongue as long as Wicked is in the room MSG

We are going to be accountable for every word that comes out of our mouths. Think before you speak. You don’t have to speak everytime you are in a crowd, sometimes all we have to do is listen. This verse reminds me of song we sang in sunday school as kids:

be careful little mouth what you say
be careful little mouth what you say
cause the father up above is looking
down in tender love so be careful little mouth
    what you say

how true is that little kid song. our tongue can hurt or help someone. what are you doing today helping or hurting someone?

  15. 1 I said, I will take heed to my ways, that I sin not with my tongue: I will keep my mouth with a bridle, while the wicked is before me.

We must be careful with what we say. The bible calls the tongue a deadly weapon. God will hold us accountable for what comes out of our mouth. So, let’s speak good things and let the blessings of God flow.

  16. 6 Surely every man walketh in a vain shew: surely they are disquieted in vain: he heapeth up riches, and knoweth not who shall gather them.

HALELUJAH!!! I HAVE EVERYTHING IN YOU JESUS!!! YOU add Everything else!!! Besides YOU there is NO OTHER!!! Many May say “I have this much and this much” but what they don’t realize is that a huge portion of the church is lacking spiritually because they forsake the assembly to achieve a certain amount, a certain way of living, a certain level, a certain etc, but lacking to acknowledge that On THAT DAY all of their “certains” will not make them exempt from WHAT JESUS IS GOING TO SAY. There is no condemnation in JESUS CHRIST is what many would want to say, but really?

  17. 2 I was dumb with silence, I held my peace, even from good; and my sorrow was stirred.

Many times we keep our toungues when we shouldn’t and we refuse to bridle them when we should. While we should be cautious with our words, and not be contentious, or malicious, or false with them, we must also understand that there is a lost and dieing world all around us, and they need to hear the gospel, and they need to hear positive reinforcement when they are right, so they might have the oppertunity to have the word affirmed in their lives too.

Dont be discouraged because you dont have a sermon in you hand that you are ready and chomping at the bit to PREACH AT someone, but be encouraged because you have a small word of encouragement to OFFER TO someone. Sometimes something as small as “I appreciate you”, ” Your gonna make it through this”, “No weapon formed against you will prosper”, will brighten someone’s day, and they will think the world of you for it. All because you were there to lend a word of encouragement, and not beat them down with the word….

  18. 4 “Lord, remind me how brief my time on earth will be. Remind me that my days are numbered- how fleeting my life is.
5 You have made my life no longer than the width of my hand. My entire lifetime is just a moment to you; at best, each of us is but a breath.”
7 And so, Lord, where do I put my hope? My only hope is in you. (NLT)

  19. 2 I was dumb with silence, I held my peace, even from good; and my sorrow was stirred.

We cannot hold our peace about the good news, a hurting lost people profit nothing if we do. David said his sorrow was stirred when he kept quiet.

3 My heart was hot within me, while I was musing the fire burned: then spake I with my tongue,

Jeremiah 20:9 Then I said, I will not make mention of him, nor speak any more in his name. But his word was in mine heart as a burning fire shut up in my bones, and I was weary with forbearing, and I could not stay.

Jeremiah23:29 Is not my word like as a fire? saith the Lord; and like a hammer that breaketh the rock in pieces?

The word of God has always been like a fire, we cannot contain it. We must share it and allow it to purge sin from lives. Now that the Holy Ghost has been poured out and we have received of it we should have an ever burning desire for Gods will to be done.

2 Corinthians 4:3 But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost:

“This little light of mine, I’m going to let it shine, let it shine, let it shine, let it shine”

    Now is the time.
This is the year of revival!

We won’t stop til the whole world knows!

  20. Vs. 1, “I said, I will take heed to my ways, that I sin not with my tongue: I will keep my mouth with a bridle, while the wicked is before me.”

Many scriptures about the tongue came to my mind while I was reading this.

Proverbs 18:21, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue…”
James 3:8-10, “But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. Therewith bless we God, even the Father; and therewith curse we men, which are made after the similitude of God. Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be.”

Truely, our tongue (our words) have power. We can either hurt people or help people by the words we speak. I pray God would help me hold my tongue when I need too, and help me use it to speak life and blessings when I am aroung people.

  21.  Lord, make me to know mine end, and the measure of my days, what it is: that I may know how frail I am.5 Behold, thou hast made my days as an handbreadth; and mine age is as nothing before thee: verily every man at his best state is altogether vanity. Selah.

Yes our lives are short, and we don’t have time to fool around with the world. Each of us can win a soul & use our given time wisely. Impact someone today for his kingdom.

  22. I pray everyday that i lift someone up instead of tearing them down. I’m not worthy to talk to someone just anyway i want to.
Lord help me to lift my conversation up and not down.
    Proverbs 10:14
Wise man lay up knowledge but the mouth of the foolish is near destruction.
    Amen

  23. NOW Run

7 And now, Lord, what wait I for? my hope is in thee.

12 Hear my prayer, O Lord, and give ear unto my cry; hold not thy peace at my tears: for I am a stranger with thee, and a sojourner, as all my fathers were.

    Hebrews 12:1-2
1 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, 2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

    Philippians 3:7-9
7 But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ. 8 Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord:for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ, 9 And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith:

We must let go of the things of this world and cling to Jesus. We are strangers and pilgrims here, this world is not our home. We must NOW cast off every weight and sin, not wait until we can tell it’s hindering us or get confronted about it.

NOW is the time to run the race to win, today is the day of salvation

    1 Corinthians 9:24-27
24 Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain. 25 And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible. 26 I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beateth the air: 27 But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection:lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.

    2 Corinthians 6:2
2 (For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have I succoured thee:behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.)

  24. ILove to eat tacos wiith Jesus

12 Hear my prayer, O Lord, and give ear unto my cry; hold not thy peace at my tears: for I am a stranger with thee, and a sojourner, as all my fathers were.

  25. 4 Lord, make me to know mine end, and the measure of my days, what it is: that I may know how frail I am.

Humility allows us to view God for who he is, and see ourselves in his presence. The vapor of our life pales in comparison to a millisecond in the throne room of God.

Isaiah cried “whoa is me…for my eyes have seen the king”

  26. 1 I said, I will take heed to my ways, that I sin not with my tongue: I will keep my mouth with a bridle, while the wicked is before me.
The writer her sees the impact of his tounge in this verse. He is saying that he will watch what he says and be a witness to the wicked that is before him. Its important for us to understand that not only should we do right and watch our actions to be pleasing to God; but we also must keep ourselves because the wicked are watching and we must be a witness to them.

  27. In here I see how David is recognizing the fraility of men. We are but a thought in God’s awesome greatness. The things that we say far from the perfectness of God. The psalmist says that he is pretty much watchful of what he says that he may not sin against God, giving us the example to be careful and refrain our words. With it we give life or we destroy. With then we bless or curse. In here it’s as if David says I’ll take a step back, I’ll be quiet and I will let you be my deliverer, my hope, my salvation, my comfort, my peace, my joy… I am in the end vanity but in Your thoughts, oh Lord, something wonderful. Give me hope in you

  28. This chapter illustrates inquiry. David attempted to hold his peace, as he inquired of God. Although one may not always know the reason why, one would be wise to wait upon the Lord. May the good Lord Bless you all in Jesus name, Amen

  29. 12 Hear my prayer, O Lord, and give ear unto my cry; hold not thy peace at my tears: for I am a stranger with thee, and a sojourner, as all my fathers were.

13 O spare me, that I may recover strength, before I go hence, and be no more.

Hear my cry Oh Lord, You are my Strength, my Joy, and my Peace. You are my ALL.

  30. Verse 7 NLT reads “And so, Lord, where do I put my hope? My only hope is in you.”

This verse reminded me of this song:

My life is in you, Lord
My strength is in you, Lord
My hope is in you, Lord, in you, it’s in you

I will praise you with all of my life
I will praise you with all of my strength
    With all of my life
    With all of my strength
All of my hope is in you!

  31. Muzzle My Mouth

I cannot help but think of Thumper the bunny from the Disney movie Bambi. “If you can’t say anything nice, don’t say nothing at all.” Its uplifting that this parental directive evident in vs1 is actually be a Biblical principal. David is fearful of what he might say. He’s been disciplined by God (Ps 39:10-11) and doesn’t want to say anything in front of the unbelieving that might dishonor God. So he desires to keep silent, even prays that God will actually keep him from becoming reckless, all the way down to his tounge.

Jesus tells his followers that they are the light of the world, and that when their redeemed character shines brightly, unbelievers will recognize God in them and give Him praise (Mt 5:14-16). This is the power of th Holy Ghost shining evidently bright through the canvas of a of the Lord he dwells in. This is the power of the Christian witness, but the opposite can also be true: we tarnish God’s Name by speaking foolishly and cruel. “Reckless words peirce like a sword.” (Pr 12:18). How crucial it is that we gaurd our tounges when we’re in the company of those who don’t know God. They will judge our God by our behavior.
