Psalm 52

1 Why boastest thou thyself in mischief, O mighty man? the goodness of God endureth continually.

The tongue deviseth mischiefs; like a sharp razor, working deceitfully.

Thou lovest evil more than good; and lying rather than to speak righteousness. Selah.

Thou lovest all devouring words, O thou deceitful tongue.

God shall likewise destroy thee for ever, he shall take thee away, and pluck thee out of thy dwelling place, and root thee out of the land of the living. Selah.

The righteous also shall see, and fear, and shall laugh at him:

Lo, this is the man that made not God his strength; but trusted in the abundance of his riches, and strengthened himself in his wickedness.

But I am like a green olive tree in the house of God: I trust in the mercy of God for ever and ever.

I will praise thee for ever, because thou hast done it: and I will wait on thy name; for it is good before thy saints.

  1. PATIENT PRAISE

9 I will praise thee for ever, because thou hast done it: and I will wait on thy name; for it is good before thy saints.

We have continually observed opportunities and reasons to PRAISE the LORD throughout the book of Psalms. Here we find another opportunity.

The mercy of GOD and the mighty acts of GOD. HE has done IT! We have heard and seen HIM do IT time and again and for that reason alone I will PRAISE HIM. I will wait on HIM. My PATIENT PRAISE in a time of trouble is a good witness before HIS saints. What a testimony, when we could whine or complain we choose to PRAISE HIM!

Psalm 34 I will bless the Lord at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth.

Rather than chide with the LORD, choose to Praise the LORD. Humility over pride, truth over lies, praise over complaints.

  2. When we begin to boast of our ownselves and what we have done, we get off track. Everything we are or will ever become is because of the goodness of God. Without Him I am nothing. I don’t want to ever lose a humble attitude because pride brings destruction.

  3. 8 But I am like a green olive tree in the house of God: I trust in the mercy of God for ever and ever.

9 I will praise thee for ever, because thou hast done it: and I will wait on thy name; for it is good before thy saints.

It is knowing that if God did it once He will do it again all you have to do is wait and see… He will do it again!!! All you have to do is TRUST HIM with ALL and Praise Him no matter what comes your way.

  4. But I am like a green olive tree in the house of God: I trust in the mercy of God for ever and ever.

This scripture reminds me of the message Pastor preached about the pressing of the olive. This time im not just a olive from a tree but my seed has become a tree in the house of the Lord. I am reproducing fruit. I represent substance, stability, and strength. Notice i am in His house so i am dependent on Him for my subtance, care, and all my needs.

  5. I will praise you forever, O God, for what you have done. I will trust in your good name in the presence of your faithful people. (Psalms 52:9 NLT)

    Praise Him NOW!

      The Unfruitful Tree

5 God shall likewise destroy thee for ever, he shall take thee away, and pluck thee out of thy dwelling place, and root thee out of the land of the living. Selah.

We are supposed to be rooted and grounded in love. Those who are rooted in love shall never be plucked up, but it is the ones who do not truly love that will be revealed.

That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, (Ephesians 3:17 KJV)

If I could speak all the languages of earth and of angels, but didn’t love others, I would only be a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. If I had the gift of prophecy, and if I understood all of God’s secret plans and possessed all knowledge, and if I had such faith that I could move mountains, but didn’t love others, I would be nothing. If I gave everything I have to the poor and even sacrificed my body, I could boast about it; but if I didn’t love others, I would have gained nothing. Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance. Prophecy and speaking in unknown languages and special knowledge will become useless. But love will last forever! (1 Corinthians 13:1-8 NLT)

  6. We should not take pride in our sin and boast about what is unGodly. we should make sure that what we say lines up with the Word of God.

  7. Old Man

1 Why boastest thou thyself in mischief, O mighty man? the goodness of God endureth continually.

7 Lo, this is the man that made not God his strength; but trusted in the abundance of his riches, and strengthened himself in his wickedness.

    NOW MAN

8 But I am like a green olive tree in the house of God: I trust in the mercy of God for ever and ever.
9 I will praise thee for ever, because thou hast done it: and I will wait on thy name; for it is good before thy saints.

Use to, I, as many of the others who are in the church, would be the old man. We would get all we could, and party everywhere we went. Many of us were, or at least I was, good at finding mischief. All the while knowing that God was good, and I was not so good. I was a hypocrite. I spoke one way and walked another. Many of us were to some degree.

One day I came to a church that taught truth, that taught what the word said and not what some man had said. I knew where I was suppose to be and that I needed to straighten up. I was very stiff necked though, and took a good bit of teaching before the word really took effect in my life. Once it did I have been privilaged to grow into the NOW MAN. The man who is ever appreciative of the great mercies of God, Who seeks His face, who stives with all he is to be good before the saints. Should God find me worthy, I hope to one day be seen as an olive tree in the house of God.

  8. Praise Ye The Lord!

There is always a reason to praise him. The enemy will always try to throw a wet blanket on our praise, but we have to keep our praise strong. Everytine I don’t feel like praising I reach back and remember how he found me and saved me. He turned me around and blessed me when I didn’t deserve it. I choose to praise him.

  9. This chapter illustrates focus. One must keep ones focus on God (Jesus); elsewise one may believe oneself achieved all. “Before destruction the heart of man is haughty, and before honour is humility”. May the good Lord Bless you all in Jesus name, Amen

  10. Verse 4 NLT reads “You love to destroy others with your words, you liar!” Same verse CEV “You love to say cruel things, and your words are a trap.”

These verses reminded me of a new song I heard this morning. The song was entitled “WORDS”:

They’ve made me feel like a prisoner
They’ve made me feel set free
They’ve made me feel like a criminal
Made me feel like a king

    They’ve lifted my heart
    To places I’d never been
    And they’ve dragged me down
    Back to where I began

    Words can build you up
    Words can break you down
Start a fire in your heart or
    Put it out

    Let my words be life
    Let my words be truth
    I don’t wanna say a word
Unless it points the world back to You

    You can heal the heartache
    Speak over the fear
God, Your voice is the only thing
    We need to hear

    Let the words I say
Be the sound of Your grace
    I wanna speak Your love
    Not just another noise
Oh, I wanna be Your light
    I wanna be Your voice

  11. Words by Bryan Pound

    Bridge

What’s the first thing you do
    After you’ve heard the news
    That someone has fallen
Do you drop to your knees, pray for mercy
    Or do you start talking
How do you feel, does it build your esteem
Knowing someone else bites the dust
    But You’re still standing
    What you’ve got to know
Is that you reap what you sow
The tides will turn, and soon you’ll learn

    Verse 1

Words, they can hurt or heal
Cover or reveal, the choice is yours
Make this world a better place
For words can bring death or life
    Peace or strife
We’re all responsible for what we say

    Chorus

So don’t tear your brother down
    Or make your sister frown
    We’re all in God’s family
    Speak the words of life
Speak the words of life into their soul

All day long you plot destruction. Your tongue cuts like a sharp razor; you’re an expert at telling lies. You love to destroy others with your words, you liar! But God will strike you down once and for all. He will pull you from your home and uproot you from the land of the living. Interlude (Psalms 52:2, 4, 5 NLT)

  12. 1 Why do you brag of evil, “Big Man”? God’s mercy carries the day. 2 You scheme catastrophe; your tongue cuts razor-sharp, artisan in lies. 3 You love evil more than good, you call black white. 4 You love malicious gossip, you foul-mouth. 5 God will tear you limb from limb, sweep you up and throw you out, Pull you up by the roots from the land of life. MSG

Be careful that will God gives you a blessing you don’t get prideful and take the credit yourself. But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. James 3:8
If you are hanging around friends/family/co workers and they are talking more about the world and the things of the world then its time to change partners. I don’t want to be a stumbling block for anyone. These verses remind me of a song we sang as a child:

Be careful little mouth what you say
Be careful little mouth what you say
Cause the father up above is looking
down with tender love so be careful
    little mouth what you say!!!!!!!!

  13. Why boastest thou thy in mischief, O mighty man? The goodness of God endureth continually.

Why boast on the things you have done or the things God has used you for. Dont forget it is God who does all things and without him we are nothing.

8 I am like a green olive tree in the house of God: I trust in the mercy of God forever and ever.
9 I will praise thee for ever, because thou hast done it: and I will wait on thy name; for it is good before thy saints.

I am just God’s servant, nothing more, nothing less. I stay faithful to Him and trust and know that he will take care of me. He will provide for me and protect me. I will praise him in the good times and in the bad times, i will praise him when i dont know what he’s goingto do next or where he is going to take me. I wait patiently on Him because I know that his will is far better than my own.

  14. NLT 6 The righteous will see it and be amazed. They will laugh and say,
7 “Look what happens to mighty warriors who do not trust in God. They trust their wealth instead and grow more and more bold in their wickedness.”

Men who depend on the riches of this world, will fail to see God. Hollywood, entertainment, and the sports world all depend on wealth and populartiy. As each day goes by, the more bold they get in their wicked ways.

God, let us be mighty warriors for your Kingdom. Let us be more bold in your way!

  15. 8 But I am like a green olive tree in the house of God : I trust in the mercy of God for ever and ever . 9 I will praise thee for ever , because thou hast done it : and I will wait on thy name ; for it is good before thy saints .

  16. 8 But I am like a green olive tree in the house of God: I trust in the mercy of God for ever and ever.

9 I will praise thee for ever, because thou hast done it: and I will wait on thy name; for it is good before thy saints.

  17. I thank you Lord and convicting me of my wrong doings.
But when we love the Lord He will tell us in our hearts then it’s up to us to follow.
Help me Lord~ to leave my burdens with you.
You are stronger, mightier than I ever could be.
But we have Him so we are strong too.
    Thank u Jesus!
vs [5] God shall likewise destroy thee forever, he shall take thee awayand pluck thee out of thy dwelling place, and root thee out of the jand of the living, Se’lah.

  18. 1 Why boastest thou thyself in mischief, O mighty man? the goodness of God endureth continually.
2 The tongue deviseth mischiefs; like a sharp razor, working deceitfully.
3 Thou lovest evil more than good; and lying rather than to speak righteousness. Selah.

THis is why it pays to be humble. As it was said to me many times in my life, the loud ones are the ones that fall the hardest. Be careful what you say, God knows even before we think it. What goes around comes around

  19. 8 But I am like a green olive tree in the house of God: I trust in the mercy of God for ever and ever.

We are like an olive tree growning in the house of God. We praise him and lift his name up. Every time when we praise him and hear his word it is like food for us to grow and goodness in our roots. But when we hear or do evil it is evil in our root and the tree dies.

But in the power of Jesus name we grow and be strong to do mighty work in his kingdom!

  20. Sometimes we let all our worries and
Troubles hold us back from praising God
But if we just let all of that go we can praise
    The Lord.
9 I will praise thee for ever, because thou hast done it: and I will wait on thy name; for it is good before thy saints

  21. v8 But I am like a green olive tree in the house of GOD: I trust in the mercy of GOD for ever and ever.

Through our faith our trust in GOD we will overcome and be rewarded.

    iPraise
    iPray
iTrust in thy mercy for ever O LORD.
    Now

  22. 8 But I am like a green olive tree in the house of God: I trust in the mercy of God for ever and ever.

An olive tree grows up, and produces fruit. It is trimmed back, and culled to produce better.

In the house of God we are protected and taken care of. God even cuts us from time to time to help us produce more fruit. The bottom line though is we stay in the house of God!

How amazing, and wise our God is! He trims us so we can be better, and keeps us in his house while he does it!

  23. endureth continually.

2 The tongue deviseth mischiefs; like a sharp razor, working deceitfully.

Oh,the tongue can be such a deadly weapon,it can cut like a razor.

We must be very careful of the things we say!! We can cut and destory someone with just a few words. We need to always think before we speak because we can help or we can hurt with what we say.Lord please help me to always speak things that will help and up lift someone!!

  24. 8 But I am like a green olive tree in the house of God: I trust in the mercy of God for ever and ever.

God’s mercy are fresh every morning. If we trust in him and allow our roots to go deep we will not be blown by every wind of doctrine. We will be prosperous in him.

And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper. -Psalms 1:3

  25. Like others I was drawn to the verse about the olive tree so I looked up a little more info about them. In an article I was reading this paragraph stood out to me:

“Olive trees cope well in hot and dry or cold and wet weather. The hardy evergreens thrive and produce fruit even in rocky or sandy terrains. But their resilience does not stop there; even when burned or cut down, they have the power of renewal, with new shoots emerging from the roots. These trees certainly have endurance.” http://www.biblicalproductions.com/articles_The-Amazing-Olive-Tree-and-its-Biblical-History.htm

8 But I am like a green olive tree in the house of God: I trust in the mercy of God for ever and ever.

To think of being like an olive tree would require some of the same characteristics as one. We should thrive wherever God plants us, no matter the spiritual climate. Anointing is given by God to an individual not based on surroundings but rather their personal walk/relationship with Him through their surroundings. Also we need to be able to come back after being burned or cut down instead of withering away. We know we are going to fall and stumble, but what good are we if we don’t get back up?

    Prov 24:16
16 For a just man falleth seven times, and riseth up again: but the wicked shall fall into mischief.

We could also look at it as being purged by fire. We can allow God to purge and cleanse us and grow fresh and new or we could die in the burn.

    1 Peter 1:7
That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:

I want to have a resilient stubborn trust in God and His mercy, that nothing can shake me. Even through the pain and heartache that comes I can grow back from my roots in Him.

  26. 2 The tongue deviseth mischiefs; like a sharp razor, working deceitfully.

Your tongue/words are more powerful than many people realize. Often people cut others with their language and sometimes they even cover it up with a laugh. The old saying “sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me” is not true. Words hurt.

Lies and deceit tents to hurt more than just plain old jabs. When people lie they loose trust. Trust in themselves and the trust of others. This reflects their image of God. If someone lies often, they must not think much of their god. There god is probably a lie to them. When someone speaks truth all the time they believe in their God and they think that God is truthful to them.–think about it!

Likewise gossip, slander, and put downs belittle people. They are knives or swords that try to cut the legs right out from under you.

All of these things cause a rift between man and man as well as man and God relationships. If your brother can’t trust you, how can he trust God?

We love him, because he first loved us. If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen? And this commandment have we from him, That he who loveth God love his brother also. (1 John 4:19-21 KJV)

We should strive to build people up with our words instead of lies, deceit, slander, gossip, and accusations.

But exhort one another daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin. (Hebrews 3:13 KJV)

  27. Praise NOW

4 Thou lovest all devouring words, O thou deceitful tongue.

5 God shall likewise destroy thee for ever, he shall take thee away, and pluck thee out of thy dwelling place, and root thee out of the land of the living. Selah.

6 The righteous also shall see, and fear, and shall laugh at him:

7 Lo, this is the man that made not God his strength; but trusted in the abundance of his riches, and strengthened himself in his wickedness.

8 But I am like a green olive tree in the house of God: I trust in the mercy of God for ever and ever.

9 I will praise thee for ever, because thou hast done it: and I will wait on thy name; for it is good before thy saints.

The evil may be now and the judgement later, but our response should be praise NOW and forever.

    Psalms 73:2-3, 16-17
2 But as for me, my feet were almost gone; my steps had well nigh slipped. 3 For I was envious at the foolish, when I saw the prosperity of the wicked. … 16 When I thought to know this, it was too painful for me; 17 Until I went into the sanctuary of God; then understood I their end.

Keep your eyes on God! Don’t get tripped up by what others seem to be getting away with for the time being. Circumstances may not seem fair now but that should not be our focus, rather it should be taking heed to the warning in this Psalm about wicked speech and using our tongue instead to declare the works of the Lord. Just keep focused on God and trust in Him, and *praise*!

    Psalms 73:27-28
27 For, lo, they that are far from thee shall perish: thou hast destroyed all them that go a whoring from thee. 28 But it is good for me to draw near to God: I have put my trust in the Lord God, that I may declare all thy works.

  28. 7 Lo, this is the man that made not God his strength; but trusted in the abundance of his riches, and strengthened himself in his wickedness.

Some put their trust in the logic, science, and things which they can see, but their end is not like that of the righteous. The righteous lay their trust in the Lord. The Lord delivers out of all their troubles, and that the wicked shall be cut off.

Some trust in chariots, and some in horses:
but we will remember the name of the Lord our God.
They are brought down and fallen:
but we are risen, and stand upright.
    Save, Lord:
let the king hear us when we call. Psalm 20:6-9

    However the righteous:

8 But I am like a green olive tree in the house of God: I trust in the mercy of God for ever and ever.

Blessed is the man that trusteth in the Lord, and whose hope the Lord is. For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, and that spreadeth out her roots by the river, and shall not see when heat cometh, but her leaf shall be green; and shall not be careful in the year of drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit. Jeremiah 17:7-8

  29. “The righteous will see and fear;” they will laugh and the foolish man who did not make God his stronghold but trusted in his great weaoth and grew strong by destroying others. Although we may not be aware of it, their are many around us who are doing just this ‘placing their trust in this world, destroying others just to get what they want.’ Their is a gap within a person where relationship with our Maker was designed. Some of us have stuffed every kind of folly into this void hoping that our souls would come alive, happy, perminately solidlike stonghold. Jesus Himself spoke of this condition in Matt 7:24 “Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: 25And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock. 26And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand: 27And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it. ” Puting our trust and faith in something is the same thing as building up a house on either the foolish man who built his house upon the sand, and it fell, or the wise man who built his house upon a rock…The Rock! Which is the same point the psalmist was making back in Ps 18:2 when he said “He LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge. He is my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.” The direction we build up our lives can either destroy us or keep us in tune with God. This space in time is only temporary God doesnt want us to focus on what we can do to make ourselves feel most comfortable while we are here, but to reach out to others to leave their comfort zone which is in this world and repent and turn from it, become the wise man who built his house on the Rock! The wasn’t and ending to the story, meaning the foolish man could still learn to be wise. We outreach, teach classes, have church ..because time is running out foolish man, its time NOW to get wise. The greatest wisdom comes from the source itself and God gives it to those who search her out.
