Psalm 69

1 Save me, O God; for the waters are come in unto my soul.

I sink in deep mire, where there is no standing: I am come into deep waters, where the floods overflow me.

I am weary of my crying: my throat is dried: mine eyes fail while I wait for my God.

They that hate me without a cause are more than the hairs of mine head: they that would destroy me, being mine enemies wrongfully, are mighty: then I restored that which I took not away.

O God, thou knowest my foolishness; and my sins are not hid from thee.

Let not them that wait on thee, O Lord God of hosts, be ashamed for my sake: let not those that seek thee be confounded for my sake, O God of Israel.

Because for thy sake I have borne reproach; shame hath covered my face.

I am become a stranger unto my brethren, and an alien unto my mother’s children.

For the zeal of thine house hath eaten me up; and the reproaches of them that reproached thee are fallen upon me.

10 When I wept, and chastened my soul with fasting, that was to my reproach.

11 I made sackcloth also my garment; and I became a proverb to them.

12 They that sit in the gate speak against me; and I was the song of the drunkards.

13 But as for me, my prayer is unto thee, O Lord, in an acceptable time: O God, in the multitude of thy mercy hear me, in the truth of thy salvation.

14 Deliver me out of the mire, and let me not sink: let me be delivered from them that hate me, and out of the deep waters.

15 Let not the waterflood overflow me, neither let the deep swallow me up, and let not the pit shut her mouth upon me.

16 Hear me, O Lord; for thy lovingkindness is good: turn unto me according to the multitude of thy tender mercies.

17 And hide not thy face from thy servant; for I am in trouble: hear me speedily.

18 Draw nigh unto my soul, and redeem it: deliver me because of mine enemies.

19 Thou hast known my reproach, and my shame, and my dishonour: mine adversaries are all before thee.

20 Reproach hath broken my heart; and I am full of heaviness: and I looked for some to take pity, but there was none; and for comforters, but I found none.

21 They gave me also gall for my meat; and in my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink.

22 Let their table become a snare before them: and that which should have been for their welfare, let it become a trap.

23 Let their eyes be darkened, that they see not; and make their loins continually to shake.

24 Pour out thine indignation upon them, and let thy wrathful anger take hold of them.

25 Let their habitation be desolate; and let none dwell in their tents.

26 For they persecute him whom thou hast smitten; and they talk to the grief of those whom thou hast wounded.

27 Add iniquity unto their iniquity: and let them not come into thy righteousness.

28 Let them be blotted out of the book of the living, and not be written with the righteous.

29 But I am poor and sorrowful: let thy salvation, O God, set me up on high.

30 I will praise the name of God with a song, and will magnify him with thanksgiving.

31 This also shall please the Lord better than an ox or bullock that hath horns and hoofs.

32 The humble shall see this, and be glad: and your heart shall live that seek God.

33 For the Lord heareth the poor, and despiseth not his prisoners.

34 Let the heaven and earth praise him, the seas, and every thing that moveth therein.

35 For God will save Zion, and will build the cities of Judah: that they may dwell there, and have it in possession.

36 The seed also of his servants shall inherit it: and they that love his name shall dwell therein.

  1. v30 I will praise the name of GOD with a song, and will magnify him with thanksgiving.

GOD’s Presence will cause us to break out singing and praising unconditionally.
GOD IS AWESOME and HIS majesty overwhelms us to the point that we heartily sing. ” How Great Thou Art”
Our heartfelt Praise still pleases GOD.

  2. Reproach hath broken my heart; and I am full of heaviness: and I looked for some to take pity, but there was none; and for comforters, but I found none. They gave me also gall for my meat; and in my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink. (Psalms 69:20, 21 KJV)

They gave him vinegar to drink mingled with gall: and when he had tasted thereof, he would not drink. (Matthew 27:34 KJV)
Prophecy fulfilled, My LORD, it was my sin that crucified thee on the cross. But O Lord it was your blood, your love, your mercy, and your grace that redeemed me, delivered my soul from the gates of hell! Merciful GOD… Thank you.. You heard my cry in my time of darkness, and brought me into your marvelous light. Lord I am forever greatful!!!

Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. (John 15:13 KJV)

  3. We are constantly attacked by the trials and tribulations of life to the extent that we may think we are drowning. We must remember that God is always there for us if we will but call on his name, Jesus. God will save us if we dwell in him NOW.

  4. 29 But I am poor and sorrowful: let thy salvation, O God, set me up on high.

30 I will praise the name of God with a song, and will magnify him with thanksgiving.

David didn’t let his feeling poor and sorrowful stop him from praising the name of God – what an example for us to live by!

  5. iPraise NOW

It appears to me, the more David speaks of Praise the greater the clearer we are able to understand the value that GOD places on our praise.

Thanksgiving and adoration seem to express gratitude and appreciation to GOD for the wonderful works he has already done for and to us.

In the comparison here, David compares our praise to a sacrifice. In my mind this expression indicates that since a sacrifice is usually for future blessings, it has the potential for selfish motives. However when we PRAISE in song we offer thanksgiving for what HE has already done. We understand the value to GOD our praise holds.

    Praise is loaded with PROMISE!

    GOD will save (preserve) Zion

    GOD will build (enlarge) Judah

  6. David uses the word mire to describe his situation, mud, filthy, slimy, deep sinking mud; that is what mire is. He feels very down in the dumps, he takes a good look at his transgressions and looks around what surrounds him, by every angle all he finds are his enemies; BUT GOD… In Him he breaths and has life, in Him he has protection, in Him there is Joy everlasting. David has a decision to make does he stays down in the dumps or does he holds to his Salvation and his God and rises to the top. Praise is what brings us back up from the dumps. Praise will bring back the JOY of HIS Salvation. Praise pleases the Lord better than a bloody sacrifice. DECIDE TO PRAISE no matter what or where you are.

  7. Christian

The psalmist seems to predict an event that would forever change the course of human history. Yet, at the time of this writing the cross had not yet been constructed, nails had not penetrated innocent hands, and the epic final words “it is finished” had yet to reverberate through the atmosphere.

This was the experience of one man hundreds of years before Christ walked the earth robed in flesh. This was him speaking of the cross he was carrying.

Each of us have a cup we must drink. Enemies surround, and events are bitter at times, but the psalm ends in praise.

I remember an old song fitting for this thought. We must all follow the path of the cross, experience the fellowship of his sufferings, and know him.

“To be like Jesus, To be like Jesus, on earth I yearn to be like him. All through life’s journey. From earth to glory. I only ask to be like him”

To be like Jesus, Christ-Like, Christian, we must be as he was through what we are in.

    Hebrews 12:2
2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

    Isaiah 53:7
7 He was oppressed, and he was afflicted,
yet he opened not his mouth:
he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter,
and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb,
so he openeth not his mouth.

  8. But as for me, my prayer is unto thee, O Lord, in an acceptable time: O Godin the multitude of thy mercy hear me,in the truth of thy salvation
    Psalm 69:13-18
Though they mock, I pray to You.

  9. 30 I will praise the name of God with a song, and will magnify him with thanksgiving.
31 This also shall please the Lord better than an ox or bullock that hath horns and hoofs.

A sacrifice of praise is better than a physical sacrifice. There should be a praise on our lips. I pray that on this Sunday morning that we will come into God’s House with a praise on our lips.

    On the Cross Something Changed

21 They gave me also gall for my meat; and in my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink.

22 Let their table become a snare before them: and that which should have been for their welfare, let it become a trap.

When Jesus was on the cross, they gave him gall to drink thus fulfilling this scripture…

However, Jesus does not finish the scripture about them getting caught in a snare, but says “FATHER FORGIVE THEM FOR THEY KNOW NOT WHAT THEY DO”

THANK GOD SOMETHING CHANGED ON THE CROSS!

  11. Surrounded by enemies wanting to destroy him David reminds God being a sinner he is suffering for the lords sake David ask God to cause his enemies down fall and has confidence that God will act on it

  12. In this chapter David is asking God to save him from the enemies that insult me, that mock him, that judge him, that critize him for the clothe he wears, that gossip about him, gets treated like a stranger and a foreigner from his own family and relatives.

The same is happening to me, Lord when anybody or anyone insults you they are insulting me. Lord help me, don’t let me drown please have mercy on me.

  13. 8 My brothers shun me like a bum off the street; My family treats me like an unwanted guest. MSG

We have all had lies told on us and to where you couldn’t be around your family. Yes it will take a lot out of you if you just ponder on it. You have to give it to God and let him handle the situation his way..gotta praise him during the storm. The song comes to mind : So many times I question the certain circumstances
and things I could not understand.
Many times in trials my weakness blurs my vision
and that’s when my frustration gets so out of hand.
It’s then I am reminded, I’ve never been forsaken.
I’ve never had to stand one test alone.
As I look at all the victories, the Spirit rises up in me.
And It’s through the fire my weakness is made strong.

    (Chorus)
He never promised that the cross would not get heavy
and the hill would not be hard to climb.
He never offered a victory without fighting.
He said help would always come in time.
Just remember when you’re standing in the valley of decision
and the adversary says give in, Just hold on.
    [ From: http://www.metrolyrics.com/through-the-fire-lyrics-the-crabb-family.html ]
Our Lord will show up (YEAH)
and He will take you through the fire again

    (Bridge)
I know within myself that I would surly perish
If I trust the hand of God, He’ll shield the flame again.

    (Chorus)
He never promised that the cross would not get heavy
and the hill would not be hard to climb.
He never offered a victory without fighting.
He said help would always come in time.
Just remember when you’re standing in the valley of decision
and the advversary says give in, Just hold on.
Our Lord will show up (YEAH)
and He will take you through the fire again

    Just hold on
Our Lord will show up (YEAH)
and He will take you through the fire again________________

  14. A Cry For Justice

David’s merciless curse on the wicked is probably not as much a reflection of his personal desire for revenge as it is a cry for justice and the glory of God’s name. Devout Jews in David’s day were deeply concerned about how their own public suffering at the hands of their enemies would reflect on God’s reputation (vs6-9). David finds its unbearable that those who have held him up to public scorn (and thus mocked God himself) will be allowed to meerily on their way. God’s righteous justice demands that these sinners be dealt with mercilessly. They shouldn’t even be allowed to keep living in this life, much less in the next. David’s sense of divine judgment is correct: The wages of sin is death (Ro 6:23). But through the gift of grace in Jesus Christ, even sinners can be saved from what they deserve (Eph 2:12-13).

  15. 1 Save me, O God; for the waters are come in unto my soul.

2 I sink in deep mire, where there is no standing: I am come into deep waters, where the floods overflow me.

3 I am weary of my crying: my throat is dried: mine eyes fail while I wait for my God.

    When God Says Wait

Nobody likes to be told to wait, it’s not in our nature, we want to receive what we came for and go about our daily business. To wait, causes delay but it also allows for reflection and patience. The word, wait, is a multiple meaning word. It can also mean to serve, as in a waitress or waiter serving a customer. David, like most of us, had to wait on God for his answer but as we wait, this scripture can serve to remind us to SERVE.
We must be about our Fathers business even when we are waiting for our answer.

  16. This chapter illustrates forward. Although persecuted, he praised God and pressed forward. One may be done wrong in life, nevertheless one must praise God and press forward towards Jesus; “I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus”. May the good Lord Bless you all in Jesus name, Amen

  17. 32 The humble shall see this, and be glad: and your heart shall live that seek God.

It’s important to stay humble and keep seeking God’s face no matter what this world throws at you, it does you no good to think you’re better than somebody because you’ve been in church longer or you think you know more. It does no good to be mean or treat somone different because they’re not like you. Be humble, love everybody like Jesus did. I think it would be pretty hard to have peace of mind and stay happy with a pridefull spirit. Don’t let your head or other people get in the way or become a stumbleing block in your spiritual walk with God. It’s not worth it.

  18. God save me! I’m in over my head vs.1 MSG

A powerful way to start a prayer, admitting that it is to much for you. Many people have the problem that they can’t admit when it’s to much of them, the psalmist sets an example of a humble spirit.

  19. Chapter 69 verses 1 Psalm: Tonights church oh lord i want all of us to have you poor the waters through are bodys and save all of us from the timtation and deliver us way from evil in jesus name Amen

  20. 35 For God will save Zion, and will build the cities of Judah: that they may dwell there, and have it in possession.

36 The seed also of his servants shall inherit it: and they that love his name shall dwell therein.

Our children hang in the balance waiting on their inheritance. Our responsibility is to make sure we are lines up with God for our lives to insure that our children will receive a proper inheritance. I want my children to inherit the truth of the Gospel and a burning desire to save the lost. What do they see us doing? How are we leading them. Our children notice our attitude more than anything. We have to show our children how awesome Jesus is. They will inherit what we sow.

  21. In this scripture, it is clearly evident the effects of a current situation as you see the desperation of an individual who needs God’s immediate help.

    “Now”……………………………………………..

  22. 6 Let not them that wait on thee, O Lord God of hosts, be ashamed for my sake: let not those that seek thee be confounded for my sake, O God of Israel.

Those that wait on the Lord and those that seek the Lord will not be ashamed or confused.

Great word on fear by prophet George Guy. –Satan we take authority over fear and shame in Jesus name! It’s got to GO!

  23. Verses 29-30 NLT read:

“I am suffering and in pain.
Rescue me, O God, by your saving power.

Then I will praise God’s name with singing,
and I will honor him with thanksgiving.”

The Lord knows what we’re going through, even before we cry out for help. Shout and give thanks for your victory, even if you can’t quite see it yet. Our answer or rescue may not come when we expect it or want it; but, it will come in the Lord’s time.

  24. Sink Or Swim

1 Save me, O God; for the waters are come in unto my soul.

2 I sink in deep mire, where there is no standing: I am come into deep waters, where the floods overflow me.

3 I am weary of my crying: my throat is dried: mine eyes fail while I wait for my God.

Some situations feel so grievous and so vex us that it seems we are drowning in them. Yet God can move the comma…

    Isaiah 59:19
19 So shall they fear the name of the Lord from the west, and his glory from the rising of the sun. When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord shall lift up a standard against him.

“When the enemy shall come in, like a flood the Spirit of the Lord…”

    Ezekiel 47:5-9
5 Afterward he measured a thousand; and it was a river that I could not pass over: for the waters were risen, waters to swim in, a river that could not be passed over. 6 And he said unto me, Son of man, hast thou seen this? Then he brought me, and caused me to return to the brink of the river. 7 Now when I had returned, behold, at the bank of the river were very many trees on the one side and on the other. 8 Then said he unto me, These waters issue out toward the east country, and go down into the desert, and go into the sea: which being brought forth into the sea, the waters shall be healed. 9 And it shall come to pass, that every thing that liveth, which moveth, whithersoever the rivers shall come, shall live:and there shall be a very great multitude of fish, because these waters shall come thither: for they shall be healed; and every thing shall live whither the river cometh.

We must be bold to fight flood with flood and when the attacks and situations seem overwhelming, get re-saturated and flooded with the Holy Ghost. The enemy’s flood will drown us but the Lord’s flood is one to swim in; we must choose to sink or swim.

    Hebrews 12:1
1 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us

We must cast off every sin and weight if we want to avoid sinking. To stay light enough to be buoyant, we must put off heaviness and take up praise and His righteousness!

    Isaiah 61:1-3
1 The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me; because the Lord hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound; 2 To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn; 3 To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that he might be glorified.

It’s not time to give up, it’s Due Season NOW!

  25. For God will save Zion, and will build the cities of Judah: that they may dwell there, and have it in possession.

36 The seed also of his servants shall inherit it: and they that love his name shall dwell therein.

What an inheritance, to dwell in the city of Judah [praise]. What a day that will be when we all get to Heaven and praise continually around the throne. But, first we must learn to dwell in the attitude of praise here. If we can’t praise here, we’ll never make it to that city. Lord help me to not get caught up in everyday drama that I don’t live out a life a praise!

  26. 36 The seed also of his servants shall inherit it: and they that love his name shall dwell therein.

    HALELUJAH!!!
I LOVE THE GOD OF MY ANCESTORS , i AND OF MY DESCENDANTS !!! HIS NAME IS JESUS!!!
    THANK YOU JESUS!!!
    I love You DADDY!!!

  27. 2 I sink in deep mire, where there is no standing: I am come into deep waters, where the floods overflow me.

When we get into trouble, we can go to God to bring us out. There is no reason to go through the storm alone when God is on your side.

  28. 34 Let the heaven and earth praise him , the seas , and every thing that moveth therein . 35 For God will save Zion , and will build the cities of Judah : that they may dwell there , and have it in possession . 36 The seed also of his servants shall inherit it : and they that love his name shall dwell therein .
