Psalm 80

1 Give ear, O Shepherd of Israel, thou that leadest Joseph like a flock; thou that dwellest between the cherubims, shine forth.

Before Ephraim and Benjamin and Manasseh stir up thy strength, and come and save us.

Turn us again, O God, and cause thy face to shine; and we shall be saved.

O Lord God of hosts, how long wilt thou be angry against the prayer of thy people?

Thou feedest them with the bread of tears; and givest them tears to drink in great measure.

Thou makest us a strife unto our neighbours: and our enemies laugh among themselves.

Turn us again, O God of hosts, and cause thy face to shine; and we shall be saved.

Thou hast brought a vine out of Egypt: thou hast cast out the heathen, and planted it.

Thou preparedst room before it, and didst cause it to take deep root, and it filled the land.

10 The hills were covered with the shadow of it, and the boughs thereof were like the goodly cedars.

11 She sent out her boughs unto the sea, and her branches unto the river.

12 Why hast thou then broken down her hedges, so that all they which pass by the way do pluck her?

13 The boar out of the wood doth waste it, and the wild beast of the field doth devour it.

14 Return, we beseech thee, O God of hosts: look down from heaven, and behold, and visit this vine;

15 And the vineyard which thy right hand hath planted, and the branch that thou madest strong for thyself.

16 It is burned with fire, it is cut down: they perish at the rebuke of thy countenance.

17 Let thy hand be upon the man of thy right hand, upon the son of man whom thou madest strong for thyself.

18 So will not we go back from thee: quicken us, and we will call upon thy name.

19 Turn us again, O Lord God of hosts, cause thy face to shine; and we shall be saved.

  1. Let he glory of the Lord be upon us as we walk in his truth. He isthe light unto my path, 19 Turn us again, O Lord God of hosts, cause thy face to shine; and we shall be saved. He makes the way straight for me, let your face shine.

  2. Numbers 13:32 And they brought up an evil report of the land which they had searched unto the children of Israel, saying, The land, through which we have gone to search it, is a land that eateth up the inhabitants thereof; and all the people that we saw in it are men of a great stature.

Deut. 31:6 Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the Lord thy God, he it is that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.

This does not sound like the strong and courageous statements of the children of God… It sounds like crying coward hiding in a cave, looking at his situation and letting it overwhelmed them. We need to look at the problem and not let it speak to us, but speak to it and tell the problem how Big and Strong is my GOD. Do not give up, never give up, if you must cry do it out of anger to the enemy, pick up your sword, wipe your tears, and remind the enemy who was given the VICTORY and How you were given that VICTORY. God himself went to hell and got the keys!!! HALLELUJAH AND GAVE YOU VICTORY, POWER AND DOMINION over ALL THE EARTH and everything in it. That is reason enough to SHOUT FOR JOY and sound the TRUMPET OF ZION.

  3. So why do you no longer protect your vine?

It is hard to believe but sometimes the mercy, grace, and love of God will cause us to be tested, and go through unfair situations.

God does not send jolting circumstances because he wants us to die, but because he wants us to live.

When we play church, ride the fence, backslide, or live a double life we kindle God’s anger toward our sin. When left unrepented we make ourselves vulnerable to attack, and hardship.

God is not willing for any to perish! Thank you God for near death experiences, and troubled times that caused me to wake up out of sleep, and get right with you!

    • ILove to eat the book.

These scriptures are amazing in the fact that it is always God that gives the victory.

Whenever we forget God, he allows the wild beast to devour our fruit.(evil spirits). But when we return to God he shines his Light upon us and all darkness must flee.

Let us repent and walk in the Light!

  4. Turn again, we beseech You, O God of hosts! Look down from heaven and see, visit, and have regard for this vine! [Protect and maintain] the stock which Your right hand planted, and the branch (the son) that You have reared and made strong for Yourself. Then will we not depart from You; revive us (give us life) and we will call upon Your name. Restore us, O Lord God of hosts; cause Your face to shine [in pleasure, approval, and favor on us], and we shall be saved! (Psalm 80:14, 15, 18, 19 AMP)

  5. 7 Turn us again, O God of hosts, and cause thy face to shine; and we shall be saved.

Many come to the church crying out for God to save them, but they are unwilling to repent. Some never receive the gift of the Holy Ghost and become filled with the Spirit/ the very breath of God. In order for us to “shine” as we are called, we must continually repent and stay filled with the Holy Ghost, and we MUST be baptized in Jesus name for the remission of sins.

As we shine through our everyday life others will come, and they too will repent, be baptized, and become filled with the Holy Ghost, and even bring more.

    Be the the Light.
    Be World Changers

  6. 4 O Lord God of hosts, how long wilt thou be angry against the prayer of thy people?

David wants God to be attentive to their prayers and to answer their prayers. Does this mean that he is praying again? Are they just tiny little God help me n
    Kind of prayer.

  7. 3 Turn us again, O God, and cause thy face to shine; and we shall be saved.

7 Turn us again, O God of hosts, and cause thy face to shine; and we shall be saved.

19 Turn us again, O Lord God of hosts, cause thy face to shine; and we shall be saved.

When God is angry with us, we have to turn back to Him and seek His face.

    2 Chronicles 7:14 (KJV)
If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

  8. 3 Turn us again, O God, and cause thy face to shine; and we shall be saved.
7 Turn us again, O God of hosts, and cause thy face to shine; and we shall be saved.
19 Turn us again, O Lord God of hosts, cause thy face to shine; and we shall be saved.
    SANTO SANTO SANTO!!! HALELUJAH!!!
3 times did he ask GOD to save them ( to have mercy, to give them a repenting heart, to ALLOW them the desire to DO HIS will) . Many people do not know what it is to have the fear of the LORD, therefore having the lack of wisdom they do not know what to repent of, when to repent, or how it is to repent. This is one of the reasons why we are to be examples (the salt of the world and the light in this dark and dieing world. ) HALELUJAH!!! Thank You JESUS!!! I love You DADDY!!!

  9. O Lord God of Heaven’s Armies, how long will you be angry with our prayers? Turn us again to yourself, O Lord God of Heaven’s Armies. Make your face shine down upon us. Only then will we be saved. (Psalms 80:4, 19 NLT)

I wondered why in verse 4 would God be angry with their prayers. It didn’t seem to make sense but then I was reminded that he doesn’t hear a sinners prayer. There must have not been true worship & obedience from the congregation.

We know that God doesn’t listen to sinners, but he is ready to hear those who worship him and do his will. (John 9:31 NLT)

  10. God will allow us to go through a time of pruning. What we think that is good may not be good for the next season in our walk. God is the Master Gardener, He takes care of us by cutting away the things that might hinder our groweth. THank you Jesus that you love us so much to take care and cut away the things that will hinder us from the next level in our ministry.

  11. This chapter illustrates pursuit. When one identifies that one truly needs God (Jesus), and pursues after God with one’s whole heart, than one will find God; “Turn us again, O God of hosts, and cause thy face to shine; and we shall be saved”. What a mighty God we serve! May the good Lord Bless you all in Jesus name, Amen

  12. the prayers of the righteous, for the sinners, will get through to our Lord Jesus christ. yes he gets angry when we turn away from him. just think about it, we as parents get angry with our kids when they do things that they know is not right but when they come to us with a sincere heart and apologize, we foregive. Jesuz shed his blood for us and he has every reason to get angry when or if we walk away. He chasin the ones that he loves. thank you Jesus for loving me

  13. Psalm80:1,2,3
    Hear us O shepherd of Israel , you who lead Joseph like a flock;
You who sit enthroned between the cherubim,
    Shine forth
2.before ephraim, Benjamin and Manasseh .
    Awaken your might;
    Come and save us.
    3.Restore us, O GOD;
Make your face shine upon us,
    That we may be saved.
In chapter 79, there is pain, hurt, they feel humiliated, they wonder when? Is it that God is going to do something about the situation, they are mad! But on this chapter:80 now there exist humbleness,a plead that sounds different than before…… Another approach to GOD, who can do more than what we ask…..
    ——-
80:14 Return to us, O God Almighty!
Look down from heaven and see!
    Watch over this vine…..
    ———
GOD WILL RESTORE…!one thing know: he is faithful, he has shown his faithfulness mammy times to me( family).
Psalm 121:8 indeed, he who watches over Israel
    Will never slumber nor sleep.
    ——
    Psalm 138:8 The Lord will fulfill his purpose for me;
Your love O LORD endures forever—
Do not abondom the works of your hand.
This chapter has made me thought about those time, I have ever thought something was ment to go wrong, but then the mercy of GO made me realize that HE was in control..
( I just needs to trust and obey)
    GOD bless….

  14. Revive us so we can call on your name once more

This psalms causes me to think of Samson.

    King James Bible (Cambridge Ed.)
And Samson called unto the LORD, and said, O Lord GOD, remember me, I pray thee, and strengthen me, I pray thee, only this once, O God, that I may be at once avenged of the Philistines for my two eyes.
    Judges 16:28

I want to serve The Lord with all my life and all my strength, not call on him at the end to remember me just one more time.

  15. TIME FOR A U-TURN

3 Turn us again, O God, and cause thy face to shine; and we shall be saved.

7 Turn us again, O God of hosts, and cause thy face to shine; and we shall be saved.

19 Turn us again, O Lord God of hosts, cause thy face to shine; and we shall be saved.

If we have lost the favor (joy), blessings (increase) or power (authority over sin) of the LORD in our lives we must stop NOW. Right where you are and make a U-TURN, ask GOD to turn us around.

Notice the prayer was not for GOD to come to where we are but for GOD to TURN us again. Turn us toward HIM = REPENT

This prayer is asking the LORD to correct us, consider the process of a U-TURN on a country road. There is no stop sign or red light to protect the turning vehicle. There is risk involved in a U-TURN. However the risk in minimal compared to the RETURN. If a U-Turn is required; this indicates that we are traveling in the WRONG direction. A U-TURN sends us in the proper direction, toward our preferred destiny; that is in the presence, the court, the FACE of GOD.

TURN US O GOD! I am the one that needs to move not GOD. Cause your FACE to SHINE.

The FACE of GOD, represents the expression of GOD, we are asking HIM to look upon us with HIS eyes of protection, provision and comfort. HIS FACE will reveal HIS FEELING. HE looks away from sin and looks to righteousness. We must turn from our wicked ways!

    Cause your FACE to SHINE.

Cause thy face to shine. Let us know that thou art reconciled to us. Let us once more enjoy thy approbation. Smile upon thy poor rebels, weary of their sins, and prostrate at thy feet, imploring mercy.
And we shall be saved. From the power and oppression of the Chaldeans, from the guilt and condemnation of our sins, and from thy wrath and everlasting displeasure. Thus, O God, save US!

Lastly, The psalm concludes with the same petition that had been put up twice before, and yet it is no vain repetition (v. 19): Turn us again. The title given to God rises, v. 3, O God! v. 7, O God of hosts! v. 19, O Lord (Jehovah) God of hosts! When we come to God for his grace, his good-will towards us and his good work in us, we should pray earnestly, continue instant in prayer, and pray more earnestly.

We must escalate our PRAYER through worship; escalating HIS deity; lifting HIM higher in our lives. JESUS will then TURN his FACE toward us because we have turned our lives to HIM.

*** THIS IS OUR ONLY HOPE FOR SALVATION***

    iRepent
    iPraise
    iPray
    iWork
    iGive
    iReap

  16. 7 Turn us again, O God of hosts, and cause thy face to shine; and we shall be saved.

You cannot be saved unless you know who he is

    1 Therefore seeing we have this ministry, as we have received mercy, we faint not;
2 But have renounced the hidden things of dishonesty, not walking in craftiness, nor handling the word of God deceitfully; but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man’s conscience in the sight of God.
3 But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost:
4 In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.
5 For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord; and ourselves your servants for Jesus’ sake.
6 For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to [give] the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

Jesus saves! Gods face is Jesus!

  17. AWAKEN US LORD AWAKEN US!!!
7 Turn us again, O God of hosts, and cause thy face to shine; and we shall be saved.

Seems like a wake up call… The verse above is mentioned three times in the chapter; it seems like the psalmist is really trying to get the attention of God. “turn us again..”. It was the people that turned away from God. They got distracted for whatever reason, cares of the world, unbelief, or going after the lust if their flesh..it doesnt say. But it dies say that they were in a state that their salvation was compromised, wether from trouble or other adversity. They had turned away from God and things were not going right. “and cause thy face to shine, and we shall be saved..” to it says as if the glory of God had left them. He wasnt shining on then anymore. God will not force Himself on anyone. Seems Luke they were on a backsliden state and their faces and hearts so far away that only God, can cause then to turn to His face again. Perhaps this is the cry of the spirit that lives in each person that has once known the Lord and for some reason or another turned away from Him. The spirit is willing but the flesh opposes and that’s maybe the battle that done backsliders are facing. They have left God and their spirit has grown weak and their flesh strong, but somewhere there still cries a prayer, an utterance that cannot be heard that is constantly screaming..Lord turn us again towards you, cause thy face to shine on us and we shall be saved. Awaken us Lord awaken us! It is our prayers for then that will move the hand of the Lord for them, and touch them, and bring life into the dead bones, and turn their faces towards the almighty Jesus.

18 So will not we go back from thee: quicken us, and we will call upon thy name.

    Awaken us Lord AWAKEN US!

  18. v14 Return, we beseech thee, O GOD of hosts: look down from heaven, and behold,and visit this vine;

A daily relationship with GOD will cause us to be closely connected to HIM. Life, strength , power, and ability come from GOD.

” With GOD all things are possible” Mk.10:27

JESUS instructed HIS followers to abide in HIM and HE would abide in them .

Depend on HIS POWER and let power of the true vine flow into our hands, and feet.
GOD wants to use you. Be a world changer.

    Now
    iPray
    iPraise
    iDepend upon the LORD
    iWork
    iGive
iAbide in HIM and HIM in me
    iAm a world changer
    NOW

  19. Verses 8-9 CEV read “We were like a grapevine you brought out of Egypt. You chased other nations away and planted us here. Then you cleared the ground, and we put our roots deep, spreading over the land.” We need to make sure we are well and deeply rooted in the things of God. We can not allow anything or anyone to cause us to be distracted or to take our focus off of our one true God.

  20. Turn us again, O God… That is a great prayer. When we find ourselves on the wrong side of the line a simple statement of “turn me Lord” is the first step. Of course, we need to be honest with our request. It is such a literal statement too. As Pastor has illustrated many times to repent is to turn away from sin. Not just shun it but to actually turn away from it.

  21. When I read this chapter this morning, the thing that stood out to me the most was the 3 same scriptures.

Vs.3, “Turn us again, O God, and cause thy face to shine; and we shall be saved.”
Vs. 7, “Turn us again, O God of hosts, and cause thy face to shine; and we shall be saved.”
Vs. 19, “Turn us again, O LORD God of hosts, and cause thy face to shine; and we shall be saved.”

To me, these scriptures are a cry for repentance and restoration. They were crying out for the favor of God and for his grace. Because they knew if
they repented and found the favor of God in their lives again, they would be safe from their enemies, because God would be their provider and protector.

It is no different today. If we sin, we too must repent and pray to be restored back to God and his favor. For when we are, He will be our protector from our enemies, and we will be safe.

  22. For the Glory of the Lord
    We have been created
    Living text of written Word
    Mercy demonstrated
    We are made a channel
    Where His grace is poured
    Witness of Salvation
For the Glory of the Lord
For the Glory of the Lord
For the Glory of the Lord
    Willingly, we suffer
    Laid upon this Holy Cross
    Dying with our Brother
    His Divine Fulfillment
    Our complete reward
    Crucified rejoicing
For the Glory of the Lord
For the Glory of the Lord
For the Glory of the Lord
    We advance united
    Following Christ’s blazing sword
    His Dominion sighted
    All that has been taken
    It shall be restored
    This eternal anthem
For the Glory of the Lord
For the Glory of the Lord
For the Glory of the Lord
For the Glory of the Lord

I thought this song fit this chapter. We need to let the glory of God shine in our lives everyday thru good times and bad times. It’s easy during the good times and hard thru the bad times but we have God on our side. I don’t want to be a stubbling block for anyone so therefore I want the glory of God in my life.

  23. The psalmist appeals to God for the Shepherd of Israel to save his people. Israel is experiencing Gods anger for he is no longer protectin. Asaph is asking God to restore his peoplle that they might be saved.

  24. The Lord wants nothing more than for us to follow his commands. Disobedience, sin is what separates us from God. The Lord knows what we can withhold. God watches us and hears us, Oh Lord guide me, deliver me from the enemy. Lord help me, lead me to the path that you have chosen for me. Don’t let anything get in the way of pleasing you and doing your will.

  25. 19 Turn us again to yourself, O Lord God of Heaven’s Armies.
Make your face shine down upon us. Only then will we be saved.

This chapter tells me, when things are going good, there is no need for God. But when things are going bad, people are asking and begging for help, and crying out to the Lord. Let us always rejoice in the Lord no matter the circumstance.

  26. In the next three verses, you can see a sincere request for the Lord to shine his face upon them, to save them. Godly men, don’t like it when they have to walk in darkness. But, please notice on three occassions!

Thine Word is a Lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path! We are called to be a light in this world. “Shine”……Witness/Save/Shine for Jesus Christ. Wise is the man that saves souls. Plant a seed, “Try”….

    SHINE:

3 Turn us again, O God, and cause thy face to shine; and we shall be saved.

7 Turn us again, O God of hosts, and cause thy face to shine; and we shall be saved.

19 Turn us again, O Lord God of hosts, cause thy face to shine; and we shall be saved.

    ______________________________________________________
Be that wise sower, which planted multiple seeds in the ground. Remember the vine, the vine dresser, and what happens when there is no fruit. He will prune the branches, and throw the remains to the fire.

    New Testament Reference Verses:

John 15:1-2 I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman. Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit.

John 15:6 If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned.
    ______________________________________________________
    Today’s Verses / Old Testament:

    14 Return, we beseech thee, O God of hosts: look down from heaven, and behold, and visit this vine;

But, verse 17, is our Lord Jesus Christ the True Vine…Right Hand/Son of Man………….

    “Now”………………………………….

  27. The writer understands that their sins have brought hardships from God upon them & also realizes that they can repent but need God to turn back to them. To me he is asking God to hear their repentance and meet them as they turn again to him.

  28. Tears For Food

When the Israelites grumble and test God in the desert, her mercifully shows them His power and affirms His provision by sending them bread from heaven (Ex 16:14-15) and making fresh water gush forth from solid rock (Ex 17:6-7). But the flock the Lord leads and provides for like a tender sheperd never remains faithful to Him; they rebel again and again. Finally God’s anger overflows, and he disciplines them by allowing them to be conquered by their enemies. Now their hunger and thirst is not so quickly or mercifully extingushing. They eat “the bread of tears” and drink their own bitter tears “by the bowlful” (vs5) sounds so much like a previous psalm David wrote 42:3 “My tears have been my food day and night”.

I am reminded of Gal 6:7 “Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. 8For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting. 9And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not. 10As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith.” Because Israel didnt remember God nor repent of their ways and turn back to Him, this is why they reaped destruction from the relatioship they allow to disconnect. The good news is once we recognize that our relationship is slipping, we have the responisbility and opportunity to repent. It is a priviliege that we now do not have to slaughter livestock, and rely on a high priest to peform atonement correctly. We have a new high priest, who lied down His life for His friends, for forgiveness of sins. Jeremiah 31:16:17 foretold of the time when the Israelites would be released from this exile..
    “Restrain your voice from weeping
    and your eyes from tears,
or your work will be rewarded,”
    declares the Lord.
“They will return from the land of the enemy.
17So there is hope for your future,”
    declares the Lord.
“Your children will return to their own land.

(Same thing) Isa 25:8 he will swallow up death forever. The Sovereign LORD will wipe away the tears from all faces; he will remove the disgrace of his people from all the earth. The LORD has spoken.

We could contrast this prophetic message again to Revelations 7:17; 21:4 where: “4And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.” because John saw in a prophetic vision from the Lord “I saw a new heaven and a new earth”. Hallelujah! we have the Holy Ghost now but later when the Lord collects us to be his own the Holy Ghost will take us… take us home where there will be no more pain. We will have no need for tears, God will wipe them all away. “Blessed is the coming kingdom of our father David!” “Hosanna in the highest!” (Mark 11:10).

  29. Give ear o sheppard of israel , O God, God of Host. Exalting Gods name and identifing his great jtitles is slways good in prayer it does get Gods attention especially in times og trouble

  30. Don’t put to much of “i” in your life put mostly God and let Him guide you to and through many things….keep your eyes on Him.

  31. The reference to the “vine” in this chapter made me think about us as Gentiles being grafted into the body of Christ, and even given the opportunity to know truth. But then it goes on to say, how it is plucked up and the purpose that it was planted for is not more. I don’t want that to be end of the vine of Gentiles grafted into the body of Christ. We must never take for granted the truth that has been implanted in our lives. We don’t want to wither away, be plucked up and something or someone else planted in our place.

  32. 3 Turn us again, O God, and cause thy face to shine; and we shall be saved.

19 Turn us again, O Lord God of hosts, cause thy face to shine; and we shall be saved.

It is of the LORD’S mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. -Lamentations 3:22
They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness. -Lamentations 3:23

Shine on me through thy word! Let your mercies be upon me everyday.

  33. 3 Turn us again, O God, and cause thy face to shine; and we shall be saved.

7 Turn us again, O God of hosts, and cause thy face to shine; and we shall be saved.

19 Turn us again, O Lord God of hosts, cause thy face to shine; and we shall be saved.

Anything repeated several times in the bible must be important, maybe even more so within the same chapter. We shall be saved if you turn us back to you Lord and your face shine upon us! Turn us back, I pray that backsliders get this desire in their hearts so that we the body can reach them, bring them home, and minister to them as God heals and restores them.

  34. More Than We Can Bear

1 Give ear, O Shepherd of Israel, thou that leadest Joseph like a flock; thou that dwellest between the cherubims, shine forth.

2 Before Ephraim and Benjamin and Manasseh stir up thy strength, and come and save us.

3 Turn us again, O God, and cause thy face to shine; and we shall be saved.

When we reach the end of us, we have an opportunity to see God. Yes, He was certainly there leading up to it, but this flesh has a way of being blinded to Him until we finally reach the point of not being able to do it on our own. It’s easy to think “God never let’s us get in too deep, He’ll never put more on us than we can bear.” But the truth is, that verse talks specifically about temptation, not life’s situations. God is merciful, yes, but He knows how desperately we need to find ourselves in over our head.

It’s like Paul when he was still Saul. His eyes were blinded with scales of pride and it took literal blindness before he came to the end of himself and truly let God be God in his life. Think also of Jonah. If being 3 days and nights in the belly of a giant fish is not “more than we can bear,” then what is? And what about Jesus on the cross, fulfilling the defeat of flesh in living sinless and coming to the end of Himself in the flesh, that all it’s sinful nature would be fully denied from conception to death? If His flesh didn’t come to an end, then how could we know His resurrection in our lives?

“But I can do all things through Christ!”

Exactly. *Through Christ.* But not on your own. Otherwise who gets the glory? Not God but us, our flesh, our ability. We absolutely *must* be in situations that are too much for our flesh, otherwise we may never be able to get over certain areas of us that Edge God Out instead of Exalt God Only.

If we have the mindset “it’s impossible for me to be in too deep because God won’t let that happen,” then we rob ourselves of the blessing of His strength being made perfect in our weakness. I thank God for confronting me in my weak humanity and sin by allowing overwhelming situations to turn my world upside down. I can happily say “I can’t handle this, I can’t do this,” because I can finish it with “but God can.” In those times I realize that much more that it’s going to be God not me accomplishing it if it’s meant to happen, and He’s so much better than I am at things.

I was thinking today on a season when physical illness left me trapped for hours at the beginning of each day. In my “prison,” I was left with Bible reading and prayer. My prayer may not have been quite as effective as it could have been but I ended up spending hours with God at the beginning of my days. Where I lacked quality, God made a way for quantity. I was thinking earlier about things that happened in my life around that time. Had God not allowed me to be imprisoned like that, I probably wouldn’t have had the right spiritual rooting to deal with certain storms that came along.

Paul spent lots of time traveling before he was imprisoned (where he spent the rest of his life.) Yet it seems during the time of jailing that he had more opportunity to write some of those epistles we dearly cling to. Like Paul probably wouldn’t have chosen prison as his first choice, I would not have thought to choose that illness, but it gave opportunity to get to know God in a way I would have missed otherwise.

Not every tough time comes for the same reason but we must not dismiss it as an opportunity to come to the end of us and find God more as God in our lives. Like the tone of repentance in this Psalm, being in too deep can be a huge blessing in finding a place of repentance. Where would we be if we never learned we needed God and needed to repent?

  35. 7 Turn us again, O God of hosts, and cause thy face to shine; and we shall be saved. – (KJV)
7 Turn us again to yourself, O God of Heaven’s Armies. Make your face shine down upon us. Only then will we be saved. – (NLT)
7 God-of-the-Angel-Armies, come back! Smile your blessing smile: That will be our salvation. – (MSG)
7 Restore us again, O God of hosts; and cause Your face to shine [upon us with favor as of old], and we shall be saved! – (AMP)

  36. 19 Turn us again, O Lord God of hosts, cause thy face to shine; and we shall be saved.

Our total and complete trust should be in God. He will save those who want to be saved. He will deliver those that desire to be delivered. If we would let go and let God, he will do the rest.

  37. 5 Thou feedest them with the bread of tears; and givest them tears to drink in great measure.

That’s a good way to feed yourself, prayer feeds the soul that is thirsty. You don’t need religion you need relationship. Feed yourself daily

  38. 8 Thou hast brought a vine out of Egypt : thou cast out the heathen, and planted it. 9 Thou preparedst room before it , and didst cause it to take deep root, and it filled the land. 10 The hills were covered with the shadow of it, and the boughs thereof were like the goodly cedars.
