Psalm 129

1 Many a time have they afflicted me from my youth, may Israel now say:

Many a time have they afflicted me from my youth: yet they have not prevailed against me.

The plowers plowed upon my back: they made long their furrows.

The Lord is righteous: he hath cut asunder the cords of the wicked.

Let them all be confounded and turned back that hate Zion.

Let them be as the grass upon the housetops, which withereth afore it groweth up:

Wherewith the mower filleth not his hand; nor he that bindeth sheaves his bosom.

Neither do they which go by say, The blessing of the Lord be upon you: we bless you in the name of the Lord.

Afflicted but not defeated, God is an ever present help in times of trouble. Praying, this morning, for the town of West.

  3. The Noise of Praise Confuses the Enemy!!!!

THANK YOU JESUS!!!! HALLELUJAH!!!! No weapon form against me shall prosper…

Lift up your voice all you children of Zion and Praise our Holy God, for He is good and worthy of ALL our Praise. Nothing confuses the enemy like a saint that can Praise God through the storm, even at its strongest moment, just lift up your voice, shout with a voice of triumph, shout with a voice of Praise, and give God all the Glory, and watch the enemy flee for life.

Gideon in Judges 7 won the battle with God, by giving his men trumpets, pitchers, and a lamp… He told them when you surround about your enemy at my signal blow the trumpet and break your pitchers and the enemy got so confused with the noise that they killed each other. Gideon and his men by the Grace of God took the land and the water by Praising God. In the same manner, you can confuse your enemy, and take the territory that God has given you dominion over it.

Judges 7:16 And he divided the three hundred men into three companies, and he put a trumpet in every man’s hand, with empty pitchers, and lamps within the pitchers.

17 And he said unto them, Look on me, and do likewise: and, behold, when I come to the outside of the camp, it shall be that, as I do, so shall ye do.

18 When I blow with a trumpet, I and all that are with me, then blow ye the trumpets also on every side of all the camp, and say, The sword of the Lord, and of Gideon.

19 So Gideon, and the hundred men that were with him, came unto the outside of the camp in the beginning of the middle watch; and they had but newly set the watch: and they blew the trumpets, and brake the pitchers that were in their hands.

20 And the three companies blew the trumpets, and brake the pitchers, and held the lamps in their left hands, and the trumpets in their right hands to blow withal: and they cried, The sword of the Lord, and of Gideon.

21 And they stood every man in his place round about the camp; and all the host ran, and cried, and fled.

22 And the three hundred blew the trumpets, and the Lord set every man’s sword against his fellow, even throughout all the host: and the host fled to Bethshittah in Zererath, and to the border of Abelmeholah, unto Tabbath.

23 And the men of Israel gathered themselves together out of Naphtali, and out of Asher, and out of all Manasseh, and pursued after the Midianites.

    • Amen, Maria !!! Remember Gideon was unsecured, afraid, and that the state of a person that the eny is looking for, but
      S U R P R I S E !!! Gideon trusted The Lord and we know the end: V I C T O R Y !!!!!!
….. when I am weak then I am strong!!
PRAISE GOD!!!!praise, praise, with your hands, in the morning in the noontime….
Anyways The Lord game me a word in 2009 and it was from JUDGES 6,7.

  4. ILove to eat the Word

4 The Lord is righteous: he hath cut asunder the cords of the wicked.

There are those who would try to trip up the children of God… Yes, I know it’s hard to believe. There are those who also unknowingly set traps for the children of God simply by listening to the voice of the enemy.

Regardless, of who or how the trap is set, we have a promise from God that the cords WILL BE BROKEN.

  5. 4 The Lord is righteous: he hath cut asunder the cords of the wicked.

5 Let them all be confounded and turned back that hate Zion.

    Gods go our back!
No weapon formed against me shall prosper.
When people start talking trash just go ahead and let them. Don’t let it steal your joy because Gods mercy is on his children that were bought with his blood not the heathen. He will defend what he has paid such a price for. He is a wise Shepard and that keeps his flock close and any enemy that comes will find him on guard for his sheep. He is my protector. He has proven himself mighty in our behalf.

  6. Oh, let all those who hate Zion grovel in humiliation; Let them be like grass in shallow ground that withers before the harvest, Before the farmhands can gather it in, the harvesters get in the crop, Before the neighbors have a chance to call out, “Congratulations on your wonderful crop! We bless you in God ‘s name!” (Psalm 129:5-8 MSG)

    Oh shallow grass!
Really this could be applied to last nights message. We create shallow grass in our own lives when we when we flippantly make promises to God. God knows your heart. You should grow trees like the cedar trees of Lebanon when promises are made to God. Deeply rooted and used for him. Withered grass is just good to burn. Don’t burn. Grow deep!

  7. Went to church lastnight (upci~pentacostal) very good message.
But not as much as I trust pofw.
With bro and sis Watts. I love the church of God.
Sometimes they (church) can do or say things that’s thier opinions and not God’s, or if it is God’s He will let you know about it. I know there’s all kinds of people that are different and we (me), we have to keep searching, learning and asking and loving God.
He’s AMAZING no matter what or I look at this world on earth or better yet anywhere and everywhere God resides. I will and do love and think of God more, alot more, than anything else.

    ISAIAH 26:9~
With my soul have I desired thee in the night: yea, with my spirit within me will I seek thee early: for when thy judgements are in the earth, the inhabitants of the world will learn righteousness.

  8. no matter what we think the problems of our life may have been, Jesus can turn them around and bless us.

  9. Thank you pofw bloggers saying what Pastor preached lastnight since I have no way to get there from southside of Ftworth on weds.
    I know God was there.

  10. 6 Let them be as the grass upon the housetops, which withereth afore it groweth up:

As I read this I thought about 2 things, the first being how the grass is unable to get the neturients and the water it needs to sustain life, and so in the sun it dries and withers, just as Jesus taught in the parable of the seeds, in which some fell in good ground, and some on hard ground. We must make sure our hearts are not hard and stony, but soft and plyable, ready to recieve the word of God and His instructions, or we too will be as the withered grass, when the heat gets turned up on us.

The second thing I thought about was , dirt on the roof? Enough for grass to grow? I remembered learning of a missionary in Africa whom the locals helped build a house for. The house was similar to what the native American Indians would do, adobe. It was framed with wood, lined with sticks on the interior of the walls, and covered with a mud/ clay mix.. Maybe this was similar to the roof here in the verse. If so, maybe it is similar to the roof that the paralytic was let through, by his friends, as Jesus was preaching…

  11. Psalm 128:many a time have they afflicted me from my youth:yet they have not prevail against me.
    ——–
    Psalm3:1-4 O LORD,how many are my foes!
How many rise up against me!
    Many are saying of me,
” God will not deliver him”
But you are a shield around me,
    O LORD;
You bestow glory on me and lift up my head.
To the LORD I cried out loud,
and he answeres me from his holy hill.
    —-
Hallelujah!!!!! Praise GOD, praise him for his faithfulness,my abba father has said that he will never leave me nor forsake me, for the battle is not mine the battle is the LORD’s….
I just need to stand, and be still,(wich is the opposite) stand! Keep on believing, obeying, declaring, binding, loosing, and SHOUTING !!!!!
Thank you lord for loving me and for your great compation toward me.

  12. UNUSUALLY CONFOUNDED BY GRASS ON THE ROOF

6 Let them be as the grass upon the housetops, which withereth afore it groweth up:

This verse made me Laugh Out Loud. I am thankful that the King of Glory, King of Kings has a sense of humor.

When considering this verse in our day we are challenged to comprehend grass on the steep inclines that are now covering houses. It would be a challenge just to get the grass to stay on slope, let alone grow. It would be a very odd sight to see grass on the top of a house. It would be an “OUT OF PLACE” experience. Not natural, non producing, discolored, dead looking oddity with no hope or purpose. With no way to care for it or manicure it.

The rooftops in those days were mainly a flat surface, which makes it a little more feasible to fathom, however the out of place illustration and the unnatural context reveal a “Something is WRONG with this picture” experience.

It is a phrase and principal to hear and see today that we should all just get along and coexist, just support and bless one another. However we find here that we are not bound to “BLESS” HIS adversaries.

Consider the context of these 2 verses.

Malachi 2:2 If ye will not hear, and if ye will not lay it to heart, to give glory unto my name, saith the LORD of hosts, I will even send a curse upon you, and I will curse your blessings: yea, I have cursed them already, because ye do not lay it to heart.

    Matthew 5:44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;

***Often the context of this verse is confused.

We cannot BLESS what GOD has cursed and we cannot curse what GOD has BLESSED.

When we attempt to make it personal and protect those that are unrighteous and curse those that do not treat us the way we think they should. We must remember LIFE is ALL about JESUS. We are instructed to not BLESS them that REJECT HIM and persecute HIS people. However we are instructed to BLESS them that curse us. Do not be confused here. Vengeance is mine saith the LORD, I will repay.

The intent of the prophet in composing this Psalm is to comfort the Church in affliction, and to stir her up to glorify God for his providence over her, always for her good, and bringing her enemies to confusion, and a sudden ruin.

  13. This chapter illustrates press. They pressed forward and God (Jesus) did; “The Lord is righteous: he hath cut asunder the cords of the wicked”. One must press, and all the more when one feels there is no hope; “I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus”. What a mighty God we serve! May the good Lord Bless you all in Jesus name, Amen

  14. Psalms 129:3-4
    Their plowmen plowed long furrows
    up and down my back;
    Then GOD ripped the harnesses
of the evil plowmen to shreds. ” MSG

The enemy cannot do anything creative. Everything he does is a perversion, a mimic, or counterfeit of what God does. The enemy wants to plant evil seeds of doubt, confusion, lies, and fear in us. This is so when the seed completes its course it will become fruit. Seeds of the enemy can become fruit later that will destroy life.

    James 1:15
15 Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin:and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.

The plowmen of the enemy try and condition us, and use subtle tactics to make us sensitive to his devices. When we let our guard down it won’t be lo before something far worse in trying to be implanted.

Yet God will destroy the plowmen, and prevent them from sowing.

Instead when we allow ourselves to be plowed by God’s spirit, and his word then the word will be sown in us easier.

A scarecrow keeps the birds away from the crop. We must be scarecrows for evil plowmen allowing only good seed to be planted and grown for the glory of his kingdom.

  15. 3: The plowers plowed upon my back: they made long their furrows.
4: The Lord is righteous: he hath cut asunder the cords of the wicked.

    msg.
3: Plowman have plowed my back and made their furrows long.
4: But the Lord is righteous; he has cut me free from cords of the wicked.

Thank you Lord for always having my back.

  16. Verse 2 NLT “From my earliest youth my enemies have persecuted me, but they have never defeated me.”

Verse 4 NLT “But the Lord is good; he has cut me free from the ropes of the ungodly.”

This reminded me of our Sunday School lesson two weeks ago. We spoke of Stephen and how up to the very end he prayed for his persecutors in verses 59-60 of Acts 7.

  17. Psalm 129:6 Let them be as the grass upon the housetops, Which withereth afore it groweth up:

Psalm 37:2 says For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, And wither as the green herb. v.20 But the wicked shall perish, And the enemies of the Lord shall be as the fat of lambs: They shall consume; into smoke shall they consume away.

  18. And no evil shall prevail against God’s church either!…………….

2 Many a time have they afflicted me from my youth: yet they have not prevailed against me.

    “Now”……………………..

  19. v4 The LORD is righteous: he hath cut asunder the cords of the wicked.

TRUST THE LORD to fulfill HIS PROMISES of power, protection, and provision.
The word of GOD assure us of HIS intention to work through us in a great way.
( As Pastor mention last night GOD wants to use you.)
We can join in with John in saying….
” Greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.” 1 John4:4

The SPIRIT of the LORD helps our infirmity and gives us hope.
The key to victory is to lay in the strength of the LORD and not our own strengh.
” For when I am weak, then I am strong.”

  20. Vs. 2-4, “Many a time have they afflicted me from my youth: yet they have not prevailed against me.

This made me think of the very first scriptures I learned in the Bible when I came to the Lord. I was singing to the Lord, and my brother started making fun of me. So, I began to pray and the Lord gave me Romans 8:16-18. “The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be glorified together. For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.”

These scriptures made me realize that even though my brother hurt me badly, he had not defeated me. God gave me strength when I called out to him in prayer. He helped me realize that even though I might be suffering now, it wasn’t even compareable to the glory that would be one day revealed in me.

2 Cor. 4:17 says, “For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory.”

You have to go through the Pain to Gain your reward.

  21. 2 Many a time have they afflicted me from my youth: yet they have not prevailed against me.

You are going to be prosecuted but when you fall get back up and don’t let your enemy win. Show them you are tougher than they are and that you have God on your side. Pray for you enemy, yea that sure is hard to do but in Matthew 5:44 KJV:But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you
Reminds me of an old song
I’m not going to let my troubles get me down
No matter what problems life may bring
I’m gonna hold my head up high and sing
    Hallejuah anyhow

So wear a smile on your face and a praise in your heart at all times…..someone is watching you

  22. 2 Frm my earliest youth my enemies have persecuted me, but they have never defeated me.
4 But the LORD is good; he has cut me free from the ropes of the ungodly. (NLT)

Although I myself am still a youth I still praise God for cutting me free from this world. I thank God for being so good because my enemies and all other trials I faced, never defeated me. Lord You Are Good!!!

  23. From my earliest youth my enemies have persecuted me, but they have never defeated me. (Psalms 129:2 NLT)

From my earliest youth my enemies have persecuted me, but they have never defeated me. But the Lord is good; he has cut me free from the ropes of the ungodly. (Psalms 129:2, 4 NLT)

My God has always been there through the rough times and helped me…so when I fall, everybody better watch out cause I will get back up!!!

  24. 2 Many a time have they afflicted me from my youth: yet they have not prevailed against me.
3 The plowers plowed upon my back: they made long their furrows.
4 The Lord is righteous: he hath cut asunder the cords of the wicked.

In all things give thanks! There are many times that I had wished that I did not have to go through a certain test. Then again, who would willing go through a test just for fun?! Thankfully we can say that its through those tests that we get our greatest Victories, and also learn from our mistakes. Sometimes it did feel as though any move that I made was wrong, but what was happening was God was molding me to what He wanted me to be. The Lord is Righteous. He has already won the war, the battles in life. So why are we still falling for the enemy? He has already lost and he knows it. If God be for you, who can be against you? NO ONE AT ALL! My God is awesome , He can move mountains, keep me in the valley, hide me from the rain,….

  25. 2 Many a time have they afflicted me from my youth: yet they have not prevailed against me.

HALLELUJAH!! They can say all they want they can do what they want but they will not prevail against us!!! We always win!! Let’s not focus on the attacks of the enemy but the victory that the Almighty promises us! Thank you Jesus because they will not prevail against me!!!!!!!!!!

  26. 4 The Lord is righteous: he hath cut asunder the cords of the wicked.

    Matthew 19:6 (KJV)
… What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.

If they cannot put asunder what God hath joined, neither can they rejoin what He cuts asunder. When God cuts asunder the cords of the wicked, they stay cut!

  27. 2 Many a time have they afflicted me from my youth: yet they have not prevailed against me.

People will try to tear you down, some not even knowing they are being used by the devil, but if we hold on to God,no matter what they say ,we will prevail !! The truth will always prevail !Let’s live for God,He will take care of the enemy !!!

  28. The LORD is righteous: he hath cut asunder the cords of the wicked. -Psalms 129:4

The righteous can depend on the Lord. When the enemy comes in The Lord is my protection.

  29. 2 Many a time have they afflicted me from my youth: yet they have not prevailed against me.

You see the scar and you are reminded by it…but that’s all it is now. Step back and look what the Lord has done. I am still here. Yes it has been tough and sometimes it is still, but the Lord is always there. He still has the whole world in His hands. He still has my life in His hands and in His hands it’s the safest place to be. I’m still standing one might say and that just proves that you are still going from victory to victory. Keep your head up. Keep your praise up…for God is with us and will keep us and protect us

  30. Favor

1 Many a time have they afflicted me from my youth, may Israel now say:

2 Many a time have they afflicted me from my youth: yet they have not prevailed against me.

    Psalms 41:9-12
9 Yea, mine own familiar friend, in whom I trusted, which did eat of my bread, hath lifted up his heel against me. 10 But thou, O Lord, be merciful unto me, and raise me up, that I may requite them. 11 By this I know that thou favourest me, because mine enemy doth not triumph over me. 12 And as for me, thou upholdest me in mine integrity, and settest me before thy face for ever.

People (even close friends) are going to talk about you, misjudge you, gossip about, backbite, betray your trust, etc. But God upholds us that our testimony would stand pure before false judgment. It’s by His grace (favor) that we are saved, by His grace we can live righteous and victorious. When difficult times come, “I’ve got favor.” When the talkers talk, “I’ve got favor.” When people say you can’t do it, won’t amount to anything, “I’ve got favor.” When trials seem unending, “I’ve got favor.”

    The key?

Love prospers when a fault is forgiven, but dwelling on it separates close friends. (Proverbs 17:9 NLT)

Above all things have intense and unfailing love for one another, for love covers a multitude of sins [forgives and disregards the offenses of others]. (1 Peter 4:8 AMP)

Love! Seek love, seek God! Forgive! Love lets favor flow.

Don’t get bitter, get God and get His favor.

    Hebrews 4:14-16
14 Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession. 15 For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. 16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

  31. The Lord has our back, he watches us no matter our race, Thank you Lord for not giving up on me. I want to honor you and gloriy your holy name.

  32. 8 Neither do they which go by say, The blessing of the Lord be upon you: we bless you in the name of the Lord.

It appears that this was a common blessing among the people at the time of departure. It would be great if we could envoke this everytime we leave a friend/believer.

  33. But they have not gained the victory over me! (vs2)
But the Lord is righteous; he has cut me free from the cords of the wicked (vs4)

Opression cannot keep those whom the Lord has blessed. You cannot curse those whom the Lord has blessed (like Israel and us), Balak learnd this lesson back in Nu 23.

Mi 7:8Rejoice not against me, O mine enemy: when I fall, I shall arise; when I sit in darkness, the LORD shall be a light unto me.

  34. If it had not been for the Lord, where would we be. God has called his children to his kingdom and we have a work to do.

  35. 2 Many a time have they afflicted me from my youth: yet they have not prevailed against me.

    I’m still standing 🙂
