Psalm 131

1 Lord, my heart is not haughty, nor mine eyes lofty: neither do I exercise myself in great matters, or in things too high for me.

Surely I have behaved and quieted myself, as a child that is weaned of his mother: my soul is even as a weaned child.

Let Israel hope in the Lord from henceforth and for ever.

  1. This explains everything, Lord. thank you Jesus.

    PSALM 131:1~
Lord, my heart is not haughty, nor mine eyes lofty: neither do I exercise myself in great matters, or in things too high for me.

Me and my husband was just trying to discuss something pretty difficult and I tried to get an answer and I couldn’t, so then I opened God’s Word…and there the answer was. This passage. The challenge that we are facing is Only what God can do. Thank you Jesus! ! ! ! For taking over our life challenges…that’s why we cry out ” ABBA FATHER”.

  2. HOPE IS A VERB

3 Let Israel hope in the Lord from henceforth and for ever.

Definition of Hope = to cherish a desire with anticipation . 2. archaic : trust. transitive verb. 1. : to desire with expectation of obtainment.

A Transitive Verb = A transitive verb has two characteristics. First, it is an action verb, expressing a doable activity like kick, want, paint, write, eat, clean, etc. Second, it must have a direct object, something or someone who receives the action of the verb.

I like the fact that it is a DOABLE activity – so don’t waste your time do it, HOPE, trust, desire with anticipation of our Lord for He is coming.
Thank you Jesus for your promises are Yea and Amen.

  3. 1 Lord, my heart is not haughty, nor mine eyes lofty: neither do I exercise myself in great matters, or in things too high for me.

Neither do I exercise myself in things to high for me!

This Psalm lets me know he knew his place, his limitations.

We are limited to what we can do, but GOD is without limitations!!!!!

We surely must let the LORD have control of all situations and know somethings are just to high for us even great matters are in his hands.

One of the hardest lessons to learn is when to let God have. Give up and let JESUS take over.

Let’s just give it to GOD and us just PRAISE him!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  4. Growing up is hard to do–
2 Surely I have behaved and quieted myself, as a child that is weaned of his mother: my soul is even as a weaned child.

Children who are weaned are no longer receiving milk, that is obvious. Some people might not understand all of the procedures of giving a child milk, but sometimes you just give them a bottle to quiet them or calm them. It can be like a comforter or soother to the child. When a child is weaned they must comfort or sooth themselves in another way. They also learn to gather nutrition from another source.

As babes we were soothed and comforted on the milk of the word. We would have that bottle shoved right in our mouthes by other people. When we had the least little problem, someone else would tell us the answers.

Weaning for us means that we must read, fast, and pray for ourselves. We MATURE! It doesn’t mean that others don’t help some, it just you don’t rely on them but God!pastor was teaching studies on the maturing believer at church on Wednesday nights.–refer back to your notes!

When I was a child I thought as a child.
Now I am an adult, I SHOULD be thinking and acting like an adult.

God help me to always act like an adult in CHRIST and do the things that please YOU and not not just what pleases me! Amen!

  5. 2 Surely I have behaved and quieted myself, as a child that is weaned of his mother: my soul is even as a weaned child.
3 Let Israel hope in the Lord from henceforth and for ever.

He was not so prideful as to have hope in himself, but humble enough to know his hope was in the Lord.

    Matthew 18:2-4 (KJV)
    2. And Jesus called a little child unto him, and set him in the midst of them,
    3. And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.
    4. Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven.

  6. HALELUJAH!!! HALELUJAH!!! HALELUJAH!!! 3 Let Israel hope in the Lord from henceforth and for ever.

  7. 1 Lord, my heart is not haughty, nor mine eyes lofty: neither do I exercise myself in great matters, or in things too high for me.

Let us not have an arrogant heart or mind let all things we do be for his glory because he deserves all the glory.

1 Lord, my heart is not haughty, nor mine eyes lofty: neither do I exercise myself in great matters, or in things too high for me.

I like where it says that my eyes are not lofty, because Jesus does not like it if they are lofty..

3 Let Israel hope in the Lord from henceforth and for ever.

I like that because I want Israel to praise The Lord.

  9. 1 Lord, my heart is not haughty, nor mine eyes lofty: neither do I exercise myself in great matters, or in things too high for me.

Countless are the times that I have gotten myself in way over my head and had to call for help. Often a little self discipline would have saved me lots of heart ache..

    Verb gaw-bah’
    a primitive root
a primitive root; to soar, i.e. be lofty; figuratively, to be haughty:–exalt, be haughty, be (make) high(-er), lift up, mount up, be proud, raise up great height, upward.
    to be high, be exalted
    (Qal)
    to be high, lofty, tall
    to be exalted
    to be lofty 1a
to be lofty (of Jehovah’s ways – good sense) 1a
to be haughty, be arrogant (bad sense)
    (Hiphil) to make high, exalt

    How do you describe pride?
One way is to walk around thinking you have attained a greater title than another. In Gods kingdom, those with the greater title are the ones who are the greatest “servants.” The ones who secretly wash toilets to help the cleaning crew and the ones who help put broken lives back together. The greater the title, the greater need for voluntary humility.

  11. Humility is a misunderstood tenant of a Christian lifestyle. We are not haughty but confident, not lofty but kingdom minded. Humility doesn’t ask you to be last or be ran over. Humility just keeps us from dangerous thoughts of commonality or complacency. We are all in the same boat with one captain. We do our part and he does his. It’s simple

  12. iHope

3 Let Israel hope in the Lord from henceforth and for ever.

There is a phrase that I have heard throughout my life,

    “Don’t loose Hope”

I have always considered this phrase and kept it in my memory, however today it is much clearer than ever before. Consider the meaning of this phrase according to an internet source.

    give up on
to stop hoping that someone will improve and stop trying to help or change them

    despair (verb)
to feel that a situation is so bad that nothing you can do will change it

    darken (verb)
to suddenly become serious or less hopeful, or to suddenly make a situation seem serious or less hopeful

    wobble (verb)
to lose confidence about doing something

    sink (verb)
if your heart sinks, you lose hope

    break (verb)
to lose your determination or confidence, especially when someone is deliberately trying to make this happen

    lose heart
to stop believing that you can succeed

    not hold out (much) hope

to have little hope that something will happen

    say/wave/kiss goodbye to something

to accept that you will not achieve, get, or keep something

    lose/give up hope

to stop believing that something you want to happen might be possible

Sounds like the “Hall of SHAME”

    Compare to Hebrews 11

Hebrews 11:1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

2 For by it the elders obtained a good report.

3 Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.

Hope is the CORE ingredient in FAITH. FAITH is the CORE ingredient in the Christian.

Hebrews 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

    We must NEVER lose HOPE.

Beginning NOW live in HOPE and do not allow anything in this life or world cause you to lose HOPE.

    Henceforth and forever.
    HOPE!!!!( he is our hope)
    Hope in him for everything…..

Hope when everybody has lost it..
    Hope all the time .
    Hope in HIM.
    Hope in our daily life
Hope when we wake up( go to bed)

  14. Trust

Humility is knowing how little we know and understand and how our trust must be in God. Moving from the milk diet of an infant to a meat diet of a more mature individual means learning to allow God to guide our choices. An infant is fed, an adult feeds themselves. Maturity says “God I am still weak in knowing what is right for me, but I’m learning to trust You and allow You to govern my decisions so I can be responsible to eat meat without choking, because my *choice* lines up with Your choice.”

Stillness, quietness is associated with wisdom, both in this Psalm and elsewhere in scripture. There will always be difficulties in life, hard decisions, challenges, stressful things… but when still ourselves and let God be God, we find blessing. Not every statement merits a reply, not every situation demands our involvement, not every opportunity calls for our opinion, not every step must agree with our understanding. Trusting in God results from humility as it is more than simply a set behavior, it also is an attitude.

In short, trust means choosing to agree with another’s decisions, thoughts, etc. whether or not you understand or even are aware of them:

“I trust *friend* to help me pick out the best outfit”

“I trust *parent* to surprise me with something I’ll enjoy for my birthday”

“I trust *waiter* to help me find something good on the menu”

God will provide for us the food that is right for us, but we must be humble enough to receive it. Provision is here, blessing is here! It’s Due Season! And it’s the humble that are positioned to receive it.

    NOW Trust in God

  15. Who are we? And who is God? A lot of the things have to do with having the right attitude. It is good to “recognize” who we are. Pride is the number one thing that will scream out with an ugly stench. It is good to recognize that God is great and He is the one that can do all things. Having a humble spirit will position us for God’s favor. When we hope in God we again recognize and I can’t Lord but you can and I trust you. My faith is in you and not what I can do.

  16. 3 Let Israel hope in the Lord from henceforth and for ever.

Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. Proverbs 3:5 KJV

Where are you putting your hope? I want to put my hope in my Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus can help us when no one else can.

  17. v3 Let Irsael hope in the LORD from hence forth and for ever.

JESUS’ gospel of hope is not for just a select few, but for as many people as the LORD calls.
    THANK YOU JESUS!
HIS message brings hope, deliverance and rays of light to a darken world of despair and hopelessness .

  18. This chapter illustrates content. One must learn to be content with things that are above/beyond one’s self; “Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content”. What a mighty God we serve! May the good Lord Bless you all in Jesus name, Amen

  19. 2 Surely I have behaved and quieted myself, as a child that is weaned of his mother: my soul is even as a weaned child.

I have kept quiet so I can hear you more..so I can know which way to go.

  20. 1 GOD,I’m not trying to rule the roost, I don’t want to be king of the mountain. I haven’t meddled where I have no business or fantasized grandiose plans.
2 I’ve kept my feet on the ground, I’ve cultivated a quiet heart. Like a baby content in its mother’s arms, my soul is a baby content.
3 Wait, Israel, for GOD. Wait with hope. Hope now; Hope always! (MSG)

  21. 3 Let Israel hope in the Lord from henceforth and for ever.

My hope is in the Lord and nothing else. There are many things in this life that we may put our hope in, but there is nothing and no one that can keep us.

Jesus is the hope of our salvation!

  22. Verse 2 MSG:
“I’ve kept my feet on the ground,
    I’ve cultivated a quiet heart.
Like a baby content in its mother’s arms,
my soul is a baby content.”

Keeping yourself focused on Jesus and his word will help you to cultivate your heart.

cultivated: to promote or improve the growth of (a plant, crop, etc.) by labor and attention. It takes labor and attention.

    • I have hope in the Lord. Lord I give you the glory. I want more of you Lord.

Lord I’m examining myself so I do your will and never mine, All I want is to serve you. You are my salvation.

  23. God, I’m not trying to rule the roost, I don’t want to be king of the mountain. I haven’t meddled where I have no business or fantasized grandiose plans. I’ve kept my feet on the ground, I’ve cultivated a quiet heart. Like a baby content in its mother’s arms, my soul is a baby content. (Psalm 131:1, 2 MSG)

  24. A Weaned Child
Every nursing mother knows the distress and restlessnes of her child when he or she is hungry- and how quickly it is alleviated the moment her little one is held in her arms for nurishment and comfort. Similarly, children who are weaned, who no longer clamor for that nourishment but now trust that they will be fed and cared for by the mother who once nursed them, are content simply to be in their mothers presence. Such imagery, both primal and feminine, is easily understood in light of our relationship with God. Like a tender, dependable mother, God assures us of his presence and reliable provision. In turn we can rest assured that all will be well according to his will, choosing to place child like trust in the One who is always there for us.

  25. In this scripture, it was like saying lets keep it simple. I don’t want to be bogged down with heavy issues that I don’t understand.

    Keep it simple……….
