Proverbs 6

1 My son, if thou be surety for thy friend, if thou hast stricken thy hand with a stranger,

Thou art snared with the words of thy mouth, thou art taken with the words of thy mouth.

Do this now, my son, and deliver thyself, when thou art come into the hand of thy friend; go, humble thyself, and make sure thy friend.

Give not sleep to thine eyes, nor slumber to thine eyelids.

Deliver thyself as a roe from the hand of the hunter, and as a bird from the hand of the fowler.

Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise:

Which having no guide, overseer, or ruler,

Provideth her meat in the summer, and gathereth her food in the harvest.

How long wilt thou sleep, O sluggard? when wilt thou arise out of thy sleep?

10 Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep:

11 So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth, and thy want as an armed man.

12 A naughty person, a wicked man, walketh with a froward mouth.

13 He winketh with his eyes, he speaketh with his feet, he teacheth with his fingers;

14 Frowardness is in his heart, he deviseth mischief continually; he soweth discord.

15 Therefore shall his calamity come suddenly; suddenly shall he be broken without remedy.

16 These six things doth the Lord hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him:

17 A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,

18 An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief,

19 A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.

20 My son, keep thy father’s commandment, and forsake not the law of thy mother:

21 Bind them continually upon thine heart, and tie them about thy neck.

22 When thou goest, it shall lead thee; when thou sleepest, it shall keep thee; and when thou awakest, it shall talk with thee.

23 For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life:

24 To keep thee from the evil woman, from the flattery of the tongue of a strange woman.

25 Lust not after her beauty in thine heart; neither let her take thee with her eyelids.

26 For by means of a whorish woman a man is brought to a piece of bread: and the adultress will hunt for the precious life.

27 Can a man take fire in his bosom, and his clothes not be burned?

28 Can one go upon hot coals, and his feet not be burned?

29 So he that goeth in to his neighbour’s wife; whosoever toucheth her shall not be innocent.

30 Men do not despise a thief, if he steal to satisfy his soul when he is hungry;

31 But if he be found, he shall restore sevenfold; he shall give all the substance of his house.

32 But whoso committeth adultery with a woman lacketh understanding: he that doeth it destroyeth his own soul.

33 A wound and dishonour shall he get; and his reproach shall not be wiped away.

34 For jealousy is the rage of a man: therefore he will not spare in the day of vengeance.

35 He will not regard any ransom; neither will he rest content, though thou givest many gifts.

  1. My son, obey your father’s commands, and don’t neglect your mother’s instruction. Keep their words always in your heart. Tie them around your neck. When you walk, their counsel will lead you. When you sleep, they will protect you. When you wake up, they will advise you. For their command is a lamp and their instruction a light; their corrective discipline is the way to life. WOW!!!!
Thank you Jesus for talking to me today and showing me the path to keep your ways. I have to learn what my parents told me when I was a child. “if I dont have anything to say nice about anyone, keep your mouth shut.” that’s true samething God is saying to me in this passage.
    Thank you, Lord.

  5. 23 For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life:

Reproofs are way of life. None of us like reproof, or correction, but in order to have life more as He intended us to, we must be corrected, so we don’t continue in sin…

  6. 6 Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise:

7 Which having no guide, overseer, or ruler,

8 Provideth her meat in the summer, and gathereth her food in the harvest.

Knowledge of the season reveals actions needed for success. Wisdom is the righteous application of this knowledge. When we can know what to do we can learn to overcome whatever we are facing with the help of God!

    • 1 Chronicles 12:32

  7. 23 For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life:

Reproofs are the way of life – without them we die spiritually. If we will not receive instruction, we cannot be helped.

    2 Timothy 3:16, 17 KJV
16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
17 That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.

  9. Verses 20-23 AMP:
“My son, keep your father’s [God-given] commandment and forsake not the law of [God] your mother [taught you].

Bind them continually upon your heart and tie them about your neck.

When you go, they [the words of your parents’ God] shall lead you; when you sleep, they shall keep you; and when you waken, they shall talk with you.

For the commandment is a lamp, and the whole teaching [of the law] is light, and reproofs of discipline are the way of life,” AMEN!

  10. 16 These six things doth the Lord hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him:

17 A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,

18 An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief,

19 A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.

    Abomination = abhorrence – loathing – disgust – repugnance
something that will make you vomit.

I decided to count to see which one is # 7 you guessed it – he that soweth discord among brethren… Lord unite us in one accord. Allow us to see that your purpose is more important that our pity disagreements. Help us Lord align under the vision of our Pastor, give us humility, give us courage, and please Lord put in our heart a passion and love for the lost. In Jesus Name I pray. AMEN.

  11. Leadership Lessons From An Ant

Go to the ant, you sluggard! Consider her ways and be wise, which, having no captain, overseer or rules, provides her supplies in the summer, and gathers her food in the harvest.
    Proverbs 6:6-8

Do you want to make a difference? Then pay attention to the metaphor of the ant, its amazing that one of the metaphor of the ant. It’s amazing that one of the smallest of God’s creatures can become one of His greatest teachers. The lessons the ant teaches us can be summarized this way:
A—Attitude of Initiative Ants don’t need a commander to tell them to get started.
    N—Nature of Integrity
Ants work faithfully and need no outside accountability to keep them doing right..
    T—Thirst for Industry
Ants work hard and will replace their anthill when it gets ruined.
    S—Source of Insight
    Ants store provisions in summer.
If we consider and learn from the ways of the ant, we can grow wise.

Get busy in the kingdom of God NOW!!!

  12. 16 Here are six things God hates, and one more that he loathes with a passion: 17 eyes that are arrogant, a tongue that lies, hands that murder the innocent, 18 a heart that hatches evil plots, feet that race down a wicked track, 19 a mouth that lies under oath, a troublemaker in the family. Warning on Adultery 20 Good friend, follow your father’s good advice; don’t wander off from your mother’s teachings. MSG

God help me to see people as you see people. Help me love as you (God) love. We have all had people lie on us, talk about us and hurt us. But what we need to do is give it to God and let him handle them. If we are not careful we harbor up those hurt feelings and it only hurts us. It’s time as a church to unite as one and see what God has in store for POFW.

  13. FOOLISHNESS REVEALED

23 For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life:

This chapter is loaded with INSTRUCTION. Anyone who avoids or ignores INSTRUCTION is FOOLISH.

There are 3 major areas where great men fail.

    FAD

    Finances –

Here is the reason I never co-sign on a loan for anyone.
My child, if you have put up security for a friend’s debt
or agreed to guarantee the debt of a stranger—
2 if you have trapped yourself by your agreement
and are caught by what you said—
3 follow my advice and save yourself,
for you have placed yourself at your friend’s mercy.
    Now swallow your pride;
go and beg to have your name erased.
4 Don’t put it off; do it now!
Don’t rest until you do. NLT

    Adultery –

The pain of adultery is self destruction.
32 But the man who commits adultery is an utter fool,
    for he destroys himself.
33 He will be wounded and disgraced.
His shame will never be erased.
34 For the woman’s jealous husband will be furious,
and he will show no mercy when he takes revenge.
35 He will accept no compensation,
nor be satisfied with a payoff of any size. NLT

    Discord –

The Kingdom of GOD is founded on UNITY and ONENESS. This is why it is so dangerous to sow or be involved in discord. All 7 things the LORD hates are centered around and involved in Discord.
16 There are six things the Lord hates—
    no, seven things he detests:
    17 haughty eyes,
    a lying tongue,
    hands that kill the innocent,
18 a heart that plots evil,
feet that race to do wrong,
19 a false witness who pours out lies,
a person who sows discord in a family. NLT

    Sudden DESTRUCTION from DISCORD –
12 What are worthless and wicked people like?
    They are constant liars,
13 signaling their deceit with a wink of the eye,
a nudge of the foot, or the wiggle of fingers.
14 Their perverted hearts plot evil,
and they constantly stir up trouble.
15 But they will be destroyed suddenly,
broken in an instant beyond all hope of healing. NLT

Receiving INSTRUCTION is the KEY to VICTORY.

20 My son, obey your father’s commands,
and don’t neglect your mother’s instruction.
21 Keep their words always in your heart.
    Tie them around your neck.
22 When you walk, their counsel will lead you.
When you sleep, they will protect you.
When you wake up, they will advise you.
23 For their command is a lamp
    and their instruction a light;
    their corrective discipline
is the way to life. NLT

    • One of my favorite books of the Bible is Proverbs for it is the instruction book of life… Thank you Pastor for being such a good teacher and leader in our lives.

  14. There are six things the Lord hates—
    no, seven things he detests:
    17 haughty eyes,
    a lying tongue,
    hands that kill the innocent,
18 a heart that plots evil,
feet that race to do wrong,
19 a false witness who pours out lies,
a person who sows discord in a family.

20 My son, obey your father’s commands,
and don’t neglect your mother’s instruction.
21 Keep their words always in your heart.

We must obey every commandment that the Lord has given us. We can not simply just pick and choose day to day, but each and everyday keep his word. We must be mindful at all times that God detests a gossiping just as much as he detest a murder. There is no difference in sin to him, he only see that you did not keep “his word”. As believers in God it is important for us not to rank or view things like the world. If we do our judgement will become cloudy and we will find ourselves far outside the covenant of God.

  15. Proverbs 6:4 give not sleep to thine eyes
    Nor slumber to thine eyelids.
    ——
This is a spirit, let’s watch out!!!!!
    been there, done that!!!
But thanks be to GOD, thank you GOD
for YOUR Holy Spirit…. That guide me and show me the things of the spirit.
–Exited about what the LORD has for tonight.

  16. My son, keep thy father’s commandment, and forsake not the law of thy mother:

21 Bind them continually upon thine heart, and tie them about thy neck.

22 When thou goest, it shall lead thee; when thou sleepest, it shall keep thee; and when thou awakest, it shall talk with thee.

23 For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life:

We should always make sure we teach our children the word of God and The things that God expects from a child of God.
He will lead us down the right path if we will listen to Him.

There are times when we have to be corrected and given instruction on how we are messing up and what we need to do different .This is no reason for us to get mad or upset.Instructions are for our benefit,so that things in our life are being done correctly and God’s blessings will be on our life.

  17. My son, obey your father’s commands, and don’t neglect your mother’s instruction. It will keep you from the immoral woman, from the smooth tongue of a promiscuous woman. Don’t lust for her beauty. Don’t let her coy glances seduce you. For a prostitute will bring you to poverty, but sleeping with another man’s wife will cost you your life. (Proverbs 6:20, 24-26 NLT)

    Who is this strange woman?

One of the seven angels who had poured out the seven bowls came over and spoke to me. “Come with me,” he said, “and I will show you the judgment that is going to come on the great prostitute, who rules over many waters. The kings of the world have committed adultery with her, and the people who belong to this world have been made drunk by the wine of her immorality.” So the angel took me in the Spirit into the wilderness. There I saw a woman sitting on a scarlet beast that had seven heads and ten horns, and blasphemies against God were written all over it. The woman wore purple and scarlet clothing and beautiful jewelry made of gold and precious gems and pearls. In her hand she held a gold goblet full of obscenities and the impurities of her immorality. A mysterious name was written on her forehead: “Babylon the Great, Mother of All Prostitutes and Obscenities in the World.” I could see that she was drunk—drunk with the blood of God’s holy people who were witnesses for Jesus. I stared at her in complete amazement. (Revelation 17:1-6 NLT)

  18. 20 My son, keep thy father’s commandment, and forsake not the law of thy mother:

21 Bind them continually upon thine heart, and tie them about thy neck.

22 When thou goest, it shall lead thee; when thou sleepest, it shall keep thee; and when thou awakest, it shall talk with thee.

23 For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life:

If we’re not taking instruction then were walking in the dark and there is allot to stumble over in the dark. Not only can we fall but we move allot slower than we would if our path was lit. We should be wise and quick to listen those God has placed ahead of us. They are there for a reason, to shed light on our situations to help us to understand and grow. We are fools if we think we don’t have to listen or answer to anyone. We are ignorant if we choose to ignore the instruction and law of our father’s and mothers. Hallelujah for parents (spiritual and real) who actually care enough to instruct us, it is to keep us from falling. Thank you Jesus!

  19. This chapter illustrates lessons. One that is wise will listen and obey the; Word of God, one’s parents, pastor and the elderly. One must be quick to listen and ever mindful; “Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof”. What a mighty God we serve! May the good Lord Bless you all in Jesus name, Amen

  20. 20 My son, keep thy father’s commandment, and forsake not the law of thy mother:

I can’t read this and not think of how God is our father and the church our mother and how important it is to stay true to the commandments and law or more commonly known as the Bible. Why?

24 To keep thee from the evil woman, from the flattery of the tongue of a strange woman.

The Bible is our foundation, it lays out how to be saved and how to stay saved and holds answers in the midst of its pages. God would that we all be saved but only those who follow what his word says completely will be. All else fall to the evil woman, Babylon, or this world. The prince of darkness is ruler over the world and his desire is to steal, kill, and destroy. He preys on everyone he can and only keeping the commandments of God in their entirety can we withstand his temptations.

25 Lust not after her beauty in thine heart; neither let her take thee with her eyelids.

26 For by means of a whorish woman a man is brought to a piece of bread: and the adultress will hunt for the precious life.

We can’t flirt with the world. The old saying goes if you give the devil an inch he will take a mile but its much worse than that. The wages of sin is death, that’s the only thing we can hope to reap. If we look, think, or dwell upon worldly things those things will begin to come out and we become part of the world. We enter into spiritual Babylon.

We need to continually keep the word in our hearts by keeping the word in our sight, thoughts, and dwelling on it. The Bible will guide our steps, it will put us in the way even if it doesn’t always feel good.

  21. In the next verse, you can see….”No leterally see”…God sheds light for the journey, for the path your on. So, adhere to his wisdom and be a good stewart and son, follow him. “Nobody wants to get lost”.

23 For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life:
    ________________________________________________________
These next verses, are a very brutal warning but the reality of what will happen when one man messes with another mans wife. Especially, when the other individual is an Ungodly man, or shall we say worldly not born again. A Worldly man, is only going to react and not hessitate like a Christian would. A Christian Man is more likely to evaluate the situation rather than a Ungodly Man. There is foregiveness, but he too could become explosive as well. Because, he has emmotions as well. Just drink from your own cistern, and you’ll be alright with God & your spouse. You ladies, rememeber these verses because you don’t know how a jealous husband is going to react. “So, be safe……….”

34 For jealousy is the rage of a man: therefore he will not spare in the day of vengeance.

35 He will not regard any ransom; neither will he rest content, though thou givest many gifts.

    “Now”…………………………………………………….

  22. Prov. 6:16-19 tells us that there are 6 things the LORD hates, yea, 7 are an abomination to him.
    1.) A proud look
    2.) A lying tongue
    3.)Hands that shed innocent blood
4.)An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations
5.)Feet that be swift in running to mischief
6.)A false witness that speaketh lies
7.)He that soweth discord among brethren

If we look back at verses 12-14, the things the LORD hates actually describes the naughty and wicked man.
1.)He walked with a froward mouth
    2.)He winketh with his eyes
    3.)He speaketh with his feet
    4.)He teacheth with his fingers
    5.)Frowardness is in his heart
    6.)He deviseth mischief continually
    7.)He soweth discord

So what is this saying? God hates wickedness and sin.
What happens to the naughty and wicked man? Verse 15 says that his calamity shall come suddenly, and he shall be broken without remedy.

Romans 6:23a, “For the wages of sin is death…”

This is why we need to read God’s Word and hide it in our heart, so that, we might not sin against him. (Ps.119:11)

  23. 16 These six things doth the Lord hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him: 17 A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, 18 An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief, 19 A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.

    Amen!

  24. 26-35
He warns that no one can walk on hot coals with out his feet being burned that the adulterer wil arouse jeaiousy earn bloes and disgrace and so destroy himself . While the prostitute reduuces you to a loaf of bread by treating you as an object instead of a person the adulteress preys on your very life

  25. 1 My son, if thou be surety for thy friend, if thou hast stricken thy hand with a stranger, 2 Thou art snared with the words of thy mouth, thou art taken with the words of thy mouth. 3 Do this now, my son, and deliver thyself, when thou art come into the hand of thy friend; go, humble thyself, and make sure thy friend.

Co-signing, loaning monies brings strife to families and friends, and goes against the word of God. Becoming surety (security financially) for a friend is a sure way to ruin a good friendship.

  26. Don’t put it off; do it now! Don’t rest until you do. (Proverbs 6:4, 20-23 NLT)

  27. 23 For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life:

35 Then Jesus said unto them, Yet a little while is the light with you. Walk while ye have the light, lest darkness come upon you: for he that walketh in darkness knoweth not whither he goeth.

Without the commandments, statutes and instructions of Jesus we are lost. His wisdom through his word is our only way to even see the road, without it we are in a blind race to nowhere. Let his light shine

  28. 21 Bind them continually upon thine heart, and tie them about thy neck.

    22 When thou goest, it shall lead thee;
when thou sleepest, it shall keep thee; and when thou awakest, it shall talk with thee.

23 For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life:

This chapter is full of instruction for life that we are to keep close to us and let it lead us. It says to bind it continually in the heart. It’s an ongoing process that will keep us on an ongoing day by day life. Reminds me of why pastor asks us to do the blog and feed ourselves spiritually with the Word everyday. We must put God’s word in our hearts every day that it may be a lamp to our path

  29. Say No to Snooze

10 Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep:

11 So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth, and thy want as an armed man.

Zig Ziglar is quoted as saying, “Success occurs when opportunity meets preparation.” Refusing to step up and prepare means missed opportunities and missed success. Many get stuck in a preparation-snooze holding pattern and they see memorable life opportunities pass them up.

It’s one thing to miss out on a major promotion or a dream house but what about the spiritual opportunities we pass up every day because we hit the spiritual snooze? I’ll get deeper into my personal Bible study time eventually… I’ll be more concerned in my prayer life someday… I’ll fast more one of these days… What about today? What about NOW?

What NOW blessing do we keep pushing back because we won’t open our lives to receive it? What soul needs a NOW moment who’s waiting for us to wake up and meet them with Jesus? What NOW promise awaits our NOW faith so we can walk in God’s will for us?

    Romans 13:11
11 And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep:for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed.

  30. If you say you’re going to do something, do it. Do not sit around and wait for it to come to you, work for it. God isn’t raising liars and careless harvesters.

  31. Here are six things God hates, and one more that he loathes with a passion: eyes that are arrogant, a tongue that lies, hands that murder the innocent, a heart that hatches evil plots, feet that race down a wicked track, a mouth that lies under oath, a troublemaker in the family. (Proverbs 6:16-19 MSG)

    Does God hate your actions?

  32. Correction and self-control will lead you through life. Accepting correction from God will lead you to making wise choices in life. Better choices will protect you from drowning. Lord you are my lamp, lead me and guide me to do your holy will.

  33. Dangers Of Inertia

Some people are simply “dreamers”. We might admire their vision, but we notice that some of these individuals are all talk and no action. Even worse, says Solomon, are those who lie around procrastinating, fantasizing about getting things done instead of action doing them (Pr 28:19). Its so easy to get side tracked by this tempting and selfish spirit, Jesus is working on me about this issue. The truth is that the person who gets sucked into this mindset will reap what they have sown: which is nothing. The maxim “God helps those who help themselves” has more than a little truth to it. Those who cave into the “lazy bones” within will eventually pay a price for their inertia and passivity. By the time they wake up and think about taking action, it may be too late. Their is a woe in Amos 6:4-7 that is very similar to this message. Where you can find inertia, you’ll find pride and complacency:

    Amos 6:4That lie upon beds of ivory, and stretch themselves upon their couches, and eat the lambs out of the flock, and the calves out of the midst of the stall;

    5That chant to the sound of the viol, and invent to themselves instruments of musick, like David;

6That drink wine in bowls, and anoint themselves with the chief ointments: but they are not grieved for the affliction of Joseph.

7Therefore now shall they go captive with the first that go captive, and the banquet of them that stretched themselves shall be removed.

We have a choice: move for God, or be removed by Him.
