Proverbs 8

1 Doth not wisdom cry? and understanding put forth her voice?

She standeth in the top of high places, by the way in the places of the paths.

She crieth at the gates, at the entry of the city, at the coming in at the doors.

Unto you, O men, I call; and my voice is to the sons of man.

O ye simple, understand wisdom: and, ye fools, be ye of an understanding heart.

Hear; for I will speak of excellent things; and the opening of my lips shall be right things.

For my mouth shall speak truth; and wickedness is an abomination to my lips.

All the words of my mouth are in righteousness; there is nothing froward or perverse in them.

They are all plain to him that understandeth, and right to them that find knowledge.

10 Receive my instruction, and not silver; and knowledge rather than choice gold.

11 For wisdom is better than rubies; and all the things that may be desired are not to be compared to it.

12 I wisdom dwell with prudence, and find out knowledge of witty inventions.

13 The fear of the Lord is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate.

14 Counsel is mine, and sound wisdom: I am understanding; I have strength.

15 By me kings reign, and princes decree justice.

16 By me princes rule, and nobles, even all the judges of the earth.

17 I love them that love me; and those that seek me early shall find me.

18 Riches and honour are with me; yea, durable riches and righteousness.

19 My fruit is better than gold, yea, than fine gold; and my revenue than choice silver.

20 I lead in the way of righteousness, in the midst of the paths of judgment:

21 That I may cause those that love me to inherit substance; and I will fill their treasures.

22 The Lord possessed me in the beginning of his way, before his works of old.

23 I was set up from everlasting, from the beginning, or ever the earth was.

24 When there were no depths, I was brought forth; when there were no fountains abounding with water.

25 Before the mountains were settled, before the hills was I brought forth:

26 While as yet he had not made the earth, nor the fields, nor the highest part of the dust of the world.

27 When he prepared the heavens, I was there: when he set a compass upon the face of the depth:

28 When he established the clouds above: when he strengthened the fountains of the deep:

29 When he gave to the sea his decree, that the waters should not pass his commandment: when he appointed the foundations of the earth:

30 Then I was by him, as one brought up with him: and I was daily his delight, rejoicing always before him;

31 Rejoicing in the habitable part of his earth; and my delights were with the sons of men.

32 Now therefore hearken unto me, O ye children: for blessed are they that keep my ways.

33 Hear instruction, and be wise, and refuse it not.

34 Blessed is the man that heareth me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at the posts of my doors.

35 For whoso findeth me findeth life, and shall obtain favour of the Lord.

36 But he that sinneth against me wrongeth his own soul: all they that hate me love death.

  1. 35 For whoso findeth me findeth life, and shall obtain favour of the Lord.
36 But he that sinneth against me wrongeth his own soul: all they that hate me love death.

Wisdom is speaking to us here and we see that if we are wise we will listen. Listening will grant us favor with God, and life; but if we choose not to listen, we not only hate our own souls, but we also chose death.
As we look at the world around us, we are able to see how true this really is. Those who listen to God, fear Him, and do Hs commands, those have pretty good lives. Those in the world, on drugs, in abusive relationships, staring in movies, though they have money, they have no kind of life, because of all the sin, and sin when it is finished brings forth death…

  2. 21 That I may cause those that love me to inherit substance; and I will fill their treasures.

34 Blessed is the man that heareth me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at the posts of my doors.

35 For whoso findeth me findeth life, and shall obtain favour of the Lord.

The search for wisdom leads to substance, blessings, life, and the favor of the Lord.

Lord, I need wisdom now more than ever.

  3. HALELUJAH!!! YES YES LORD!!!17 I love them that love me; and those that seek me early shall find me.
I LOVE YOU DADDY!!! THANK YOU FOR LOVING ME!!! FOR IT WAS YOU THAT LOVED ME FIRST!!! I THANK YOU FOR EVEN BEFORE THE WOMB OF MY MOTHER YOU KNEW ME!!! JESUS I WANT AND NEEEEED MORE OF YOU!!! 4. 7 For my mouth shall speak truth; and wickedness is an abomination to my lips.

8 All the words of my mouth are in righteousness; there is nothing froward or perverse in them.

These two verses brought back to my memory when Pastor preached what are we talking about! In todays world there is enough back biting and telling lies on each other that we as church don’t need it in our churches. We as a whole at POFW need to unite together and bind the back backing and discord and loose unity into the church. The world is looking for what we got but if entertain the wrong things then why would a lost soul want what we got?
When we (I) am out and about on my job or the grocery store be careful what you are talking about cause you never know who is listening to or watching you. Reminds me of the kid song:
This little light of mine I’m gonna let it shine
This little light of mine I’m gonna let it shine
Let it shine Let it shine Let it shine
Hide it under a bushel NO I’m gonna let it shine
Let it shine Let is shine Let is shine
Not going to let satan blow it out I’m gonna let shine
Let it shine Let it shine Let it shine
Let it shine till Jesus comes
    I’m gonna let it shine
Let is shine Let it shine Let it shine

  5. Hate what He hates and love what He loves… follow His instructions and yours will be His inheritance.

13 The fear of the Lord is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate.

  6. Vs.17, “I love them that love me; and those that seek me early shall find me.”
Vs. 35, “For whoso findeth me findeth life, and shall obtain favour of the LORD.”

James 1:5 says, “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.”

If we lack wisdom in our lives, all we have to do is seek and ask for it, and God will give us wisdom. For when we find wisdom, we find true life in Jesus Christ.

  7. WISDOM

13 The fear of the Lord is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate.

Over the past 25 years of serving JESUS I have been witness to the church become passive towards sin, disobedience and rebellion. The level of tolerance and acceptance of such have numbed and dumbed “the fear of the LORD”. Tolerance and acceptance of evil indicates that hate of evil is absent.

    The duty of man:
Ecclesiastes 12:13 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.

The fear of the LORD is to hate evil then we should take no pleasure in evil, through supporting it, financially, emotionally or any other way. We should avoid evil like a contagious disease.

Solomon identifies 4 things that the LORD hates and we should avoid at all cost.

    1. pride – to raise oneself

    2. arrogancy – showing an offensive attitude of superiority

    3. the evil way – 7451. rah; bad or (as noun) evil (natural or moral):—adversity, affliction, bad, calamity, + displease(-ure), distress, evil((-favouredness), man, thing), + exceedingly, x great, grief(-vous), harm, heavy, hurt(-ful), ill (favoured), + mark, mischief(-vous), misery, naught(-ty), noisome, + not please, sad(-ly), sore, sorrow, trouble, vex, wicked(-ly, -ness, one), worse(-st), wretchedness, wrong.

    4. the froward mouth – habitually disposed to disobedience and opposition. Continuous, argumentative, speaking your mind, these are terms we would use today.

    Seek WISDOM and hate evil!

  8. 17 “I love all who love me.
Those who search will surely find me.
18 I have riches and honor,
as well as enduring wealth and justice.
19 My gifts are better than gold, even the purest gold,
my wages better than sterling silver!
    20 I walk in righteousness,
    in paths of justice.
21 Those who love me inherit wealth.
    I will fill their treasuries.

32 “And so, my children,[b] listen to me,
for all who follow my ways are joyful.
33 Listen to my instruction and be wise.
    Don’t ignore it.
34 Joyful are those who listen to me,
watching for me daily at my gates,
waiting for me outside my home!
35 For whoever finds me finds life
and receives favor from the Lord.
36 But those who miss me injure themselves.
All who hate me love death.”

Lord I pray that every morning I seek wisdom. that the things she detest remain absent from my daily life. That her spirit dwell inside my soul and is visible in my daily walk. In Jesus Name!!!

  9. Proverbs9:11
For wisdom is better tha rubies;and
All the things that may be desired are not to
    Be compare to it.
    AMEN!!!!!!
8:19 my fruit is better than gold, than fine gold
And my revenue than choice silver.
    AMEN!
My fruit is better than gold….. WISDOM!
We can read and read and read, but it’s fruitless if after we read we got up and go on with life.
After we read we must ask GOD: ok LORD:
    _ what does this mean?
-what do you want to teach me today?
Show me if there things that are hindering me?
    -explain this word to me?
    -how do I handle this?
I must give GOD time to talk back to me!
Then I will learn and in WISDOM.
    WISDOM!
I have been keeping my myth shut for a while now, and you won’t believe the gray results.
I am telling you! Isn’t that to be wise? I am in a process, this jar is not finished yet, but its getting there, ( with humbleness I say this, ok my Frieds?) I want to grow and I need WISDOM I need GOD!
PRAISE GOD!!!!! That he has heard my prayers and supply my needs.
    To him be the GLORY!!!!!!!

  10. 12 I wisdom dwell with prudence, and find out knowledge of witty inventions. 13 The fear of the Lord is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate. 14 Counsel is mine, and sound wisdom: I am understanding; I have strength.

The fear of the Lord. How many of us could say that we have true fear of the Lord? Job did. Do we allow ourselves to see things or hear things that we know are not pleaseing in God’s sight? I know that I have failed in this area, yet God is faithful and just to forgive us. Therefore if we have a repentive heart and are sincere about it than God will forgive us. We must also seek for sound counsel. In todays world there are many so called counselers, and yet no one of them seem to have an answer. All they do is listen and say ,” Tell me, how does that make you feel?” I look for those that have been tested by God and by life. Godly men and women who have gone through the fire of purifcation and have come out on the other side.

  11. Listen, because I have important things to say, and what I tell you is right. What I say is true, I refuse to speak evil. Everything I say is honest; nothing I say is crooked or false. (Proverbs 8:6-8 NCV)

So thankful that my God cannot lie… :)) if He said that a plain white wall is blue then guess what that wall would be blue. There’s power in the tongue.

  12. 33 Hear instruction, and be wise, and refuse it not.

34 Blessed is the man that heareth me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at the posts of my doors.

35 For whoso findeth me findeth life, and shall obtain favour of the Lord.

36 But he that sinneth against me wrongeth his own soul: all they that hate me love death.

Hallelujah!! Thank you Jesus!! Thank you for wisdom!

  13. This chapter illustrates wealth. True riches are described; “For wisdom is better than rubies; and all the things that may be desired are not to be compared to it”. Some may search and toil a lifetime and be most miserable, whereas one that seeks God (Jesus) first (NOW), will find true wealth; “For whoso findeth me findeth life, and shall obtain favour of the Lord”. What a mighty God we serve! May the good Lord Bless you all in Jesus name, Amen

  14. This chapter is speaking to us about wisdom and hating evil. The beginning of verse 13 MSG says “The Fear-of-God means hating Evil,….”

Psalm 111:10 NLT says “Fear of the Lord is the foundation of true wisdom. All who obey his commandments will grow in wisdom. Praise him forever!”

  15. 13 If you respect the LORD, you will hate evil. I hate pride and conceit and deceitful lies. (CEV)

  16. Lord is precious in my sight at all times
    PSALM 118:1
O give thanks unto the Lord; for he is good: his mercy endureth for ever.
Thank you Lord for honesty from You, Lord.

  17. Proverbs 8:13 The fear of the Lord is to hate evil: Pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, And the froward mouth, do I hate.
The fear of the Lord is to hate evil…1:7 reads For my mouth shall speak truth; And wickedness is an abomination to my lips.
Pride and arrogancy..I hate…..I Samuel 2:3 reads Talk no more so exceeding proudly; Let not arrogancy come out of your mouth: For the Lord is a God of knowledge, And by him actions are weighed.

  18. 11 For wisdom is better than rubies; and all the things that may be desired are not to be compared to it.

Nothing can be compared to knowing the truth about who Jesus is. Nothing can compare to knowing the truth.

  19. 27 When he prepared the heavens, I was there: when he set a compass upon the face of the depth:

I am currently intrigued at how the simple things we see everyday are reflections of the deep things of God. We see seasons come, and go. The truth is that everything has seasons. Everything operates in cycles.

The compass: north, south, east, and west is set upon the face of the deep. God installed direction into the fabric of the earth. This same principle of direction is available to us. No matter how lost at sea we may sometimes feel Jesus is still a perfect navigator.

If we let him he will get us through the storms of life, the waging waters, and even the dry desert places. Everything he brings us through has a purpose, and he will lead us in the direction of home.

Just as he aligned the compass he gives us direction. The bible says that he is the father of lights in whom is no variableness, neither shadow or turning.

He, just like the North star, is a constant beacon we can also point our vessel toward to make it safely to our destination. He is the anchor, and our stability! We will never get lost by following his lead!

  20. v17 I love them that love me; and those that seek me early shall find me.

The good news is that GOD will reveal HIS purpose to a sincere believer. HE will always honor a sincere seeker and HE will reward each individual who diligently searches after HIM.
” For the Spirit searheth all things, yea the deep things of GOD” 1 Cor.2:9-10

  21. 35 For whoso findeth me findeth life, and shall obtain favour of the Lord.
36 But he that sinneth against me wrongeth his own soul:

Wisdom is attainable. It can be found by the simplest of us all according to verse 5. Man’s wisdom can’t compare to wisdom found of God through prayer.

  22. 33 Hear instruction, and be wise, and refuse it not.

34 Blessed is the man that heareth me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at the posts of my doors.

35 For whoso findeth me findeth life, and shall obtain favour of the Lord.

Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the disputer of this world? hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world?
For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe. -1 Corinthians 1:20-21

The word of The Lord brings life to all the hears and obeys.

  23. Listen

6 Hear; for I will speak of excellent things; and the opening of my lips shall be right things.

We must be will to hear. We’re all guilty of listening with our mouths open but instead we need to close our mouths and open our hearts. Opening our mouths is only good when we’ve opened our hearts and have the Word in our hearts providing what comes out of our mouths. An open mouth without a heart open to God is of little worth, but when fueled by Him can become witness of the evidence of the greatest gift of all: receiving the Holy Ghost, literally receiving God into our heart to dwell in us.

Just as we must listen to receive wisdom, so must we become open to God and seek Him to receive the Holy Ghost. We usually are ready to hear great words of prophesy or some eloquent sermon, but what about listening to just hear God say “I love you”?

    We must listen to Jesus.

  24. 34 Blessed is the man that heareth me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at the posts of my doors.

35 For whoso findeth me findeth life, and shall obtain favour of the Lord.

To find something you must actively search for it. One must strive to find wisdom with it comes riches and honor but best of all the favor of the Lord.

  25. 11 For wisdom is better than rubies; and all the things that may be desired are not to be compared to it.

To have wisdom is important. It’s so important that God places it more valuable than rubies. Get a hold of wisdom and don’t let go.

  26. What’s Valuable

It’s easy to get our priorities mixed up, and lose sight of what is most valuable. So many goals may vie for our attention: professional success, domestic happiness, financial security, good health, intimacy with God. Even when we think we know how to “rank” our priorities properly, balancing them can be a challenge. That’s why we need to wisdom so desperately -so we can have insight to discern what’s most important in a world of competing demands.

In 1926, Reinhold Niebuhr invoked the famous prayer, aka the serenity prayer: “God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, and the wisdom to change the things I can, and wisdom to know the difference.” Perhaps the reason why Solomon ascribes such high value to wisdom is because, without it, we could waste our lives focusing on the wrong things. Wisdom enables us to know the difference between what gives life and what leads to death (Pr 8:35-36). Discernment stems from wisdom and boy is it valuable. When we do lose sight on whats valuable he Holy Ghost tugs at our heart to turn back, because we missed the value of what the Lord had in store for us. I have to ask myself at times, if what I value aligns up with the Lord’s will/word? and what the Lord wants me to value?

  27. The choices that we make will lead to death if we don’t obey God’s commandments. I seek you Lord, I want to please you now and follow your instructions . Help me to examine myself today so that tomorrow when I awake I will have a new start, by blessing your holy name and by doing what is right by seeking your presence because I love you with all of my heart and soul.

  28. Enriched with Truth

19 My fruit is better than gold, yea, than fine gold; and my revenue than choice silver.

And we are his witnesses of these things; and so is also the Holy Ghost, whom God hath given to them that obey him. (Acts 5:32 KJV)

We are more! Riches of this world will never satisfy what the soul needs. God has given us a gift that is greater than anything or anyone and it would be a crime to not share tht with the world. Your fruit/treasure is knowing you were a witness to the most high. You were a servant humble and gracious. We need to see how hungry the world is. Our hearts should be aching knowing what we have that they need
