Proverbs 15

1 A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger.

The tongue of the wise useth knowledge aright: but the mouth of fools poureth out foolishness.

The eyes of the Lord are in every place, beholding the evil and the good.

A wholesome tongue is a tree of life: but perverseness therein is a breach in the spirit.

A fool despiseth his father’s instruction: but he that regardeth reproof is prudent.

In the house of the righteous is much treasure: but in the revenues of the wicked is trouble.

The lips of the wise disperse knowledge: but the heart of the foolish doeth not so.

The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the Lord: but the prayer of the upright is his delight.

The way of the wicked is an abomination unto the Lord: but he loveth him that followeth after righteousness.

10 Correction is grievous unto him that forsaketh the way: and he that hateth reproof shall die.

11 Hell and destruction are before the Lord: how much more then the hearts of the children of men?

12 A scorner loveth not one that reproveth him: neither will he go unto the wise.

13 A merry heart maketh a cheerful countenance: but by sorrow of the heart the spirit is broken.

14 The heart of him that hath understanding seeketh knowledge: but the mouth of fools feedeth on foolishness.

15 All the days of the afflicted are evil: but he that is of a merry heart hath a continual feast.

16 Better is little with the fear of the Lord than great treasure and trouble therewith.

17 Better is a dinner of herbs where love is, than a stalled ox and hatred therewith.

18 A wrathful man stirreth up strife: but he that is slow to anger appeaseth strife.

19 The way of the slothful man is as an hedge of thorns: but the way of the righteous is made plain.

20 A wise son maketh a glad father: but a foolish man despiseth his mother.

21 Folly is joy to him that is destitute of wisdom: but a man of understanding walketh uprightly.

22 Without counsel purposes are disappointed: but in the multitude of counsellors they are established.

23 A man hath joy by the answer of his mouth: and a word spoken in due season, how good is it!

24 The way of life is above to the wise, that he may depart from hell beneath.

25 The Lord will destroy the house of the proud: but he will establish the border of the widow.

26 The thoughts of the wicked are an abomination to theLord: but the words of the pure are pleasant words.

27 He that is greedy of gain troubleth his own house; but he that hateth gifts shall live.

28 The heart of the righteous studieth to answer: but the mouth of the wicked poureth out evil things.

29 The Lord is far from the wicked: but he heareth the prayer of the righteous.

30 The light of the eyes rejoiceth the heart: and a good report maketh the bones fat.

31 The ear that heareth the reproof of life abideth among the wise.

32 He that refuseth instruction despiseth his own soul: but he that heareth reproof getteth understanding.

33 The fear of the Lord is the instruction of wisdom; and before honour is humility.

  1. We all need instructions, and we need reproof to get undetstanding. And before honor is humility.

In this scripture are many instructions on how to please God and how we should behave. We need his strength and grace to achieve them. It’s a process we all face. So, keep the faith and hold onto Jesus. It can all be worked out. Don’t give up!

  2. You catch more flies with honey. Just make sure your kindness is genuinely don’t fake it that could back fire. Always begin your day with gratitude and make His Joy evident in your life.

  3. Vs 1-2 Our tongue is a powerful tool in the hands of the enemy. We can cause strife and desension if we are not careful. We can also kill someone’s spirit. We must be careful to make sure that are words are uplifting to others and pleasing in the sight of the Lord.

  4. 15:1 A soft answer turneth away wrath:
But grivious words stirs up anger.
—–I have been there, done that ( not ember rest to say it)I could avoid many sad situations in my marriage. But guess what?
    — that’s the past, PRAISE GOD!!!!!!!!
I can see now the rewards of just letting GOD handle each situation.
I love you ABBA, and I trust you with myself,my family kids, present and future.
I can NOT do it with out YOU.

  5. 1 A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger.

2 The tongue of the wise useth knowledge aright: but the mouth of fools poureth out foolishness

How many times have we (I) should’ve kept out mouths shut in a situation? But we as humans thought we had to handle it. When things are going wrong and situations arise take a deep breath and let God guide your tongue. I could have saved myself lots of trouble thru the years by letting God handle the situation without me. With God all things are possible he has our back why fret over the small stuff. What’s that saying kill ’em with kindness so when you feel the need to argue say something nice instead.

  6. 3 The eyes of the Lord are in every place, beholding the evil and the good.

Nothing gets past Him! Everything we do and say we will have too give an account for before him. Hallelujah he is merciful but it should really make us think twice before we do or say anything in the open or in private. Just because “no one’s around” doesn’t mean God isn’t watching. He sees everything. HALLELUJAH though because who are we that the CREATOR would be mindful of us and know our acts, let alone our names!??!?! Hallelujah

  7. 22 Without counsel purposes are disappointed: but in the multitude of counsellors they are established.

WE make many decisions in our life, life is filled with decisions everyday. Simple and important ones, some decisions we do not even think about. What about our purpose? Do we have a purpose? We should always seek the counsel of Godly men and women when we look at our purpose in life. What do we plan to accomplish in this life? Listen to all these questions and think about some decisions you made in this life, if you could make them over what would you do.

We should seek counsel to keep our purpose from being a disappointment, not just counsel but a multitude of counsel, much prayer and thought should go into all our decisions in life.

I want my purpose to be established, solid, firm as being built on the Rock Christ Jesus. The only way this will happen is for me to allow God to rule my life the way he wants to. I must allow God control of my thoughts and my decision making.

    PRAISE GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  8. HALELUJAH!!! JESUS!!!
33 The fear of the Lord is the instruction of wisdom; and before honour is humility.
YES LORD!!! OOOO HOW I WORSHIP AND PRAISE YOU FOR ONLY YOU ARE WORTHY!!!
    I LOVE YOU DADDY!!!
IF IT WASN’T FOR THE FEAR OF THE LORD, I KNOW THAT I KNOW THAT I KNOW THAT I WOULD BE BACKSLIDDEN, DEAD, LOST……..HALELUJAH!!! HALELUJAH!!! HALELUJAH!!! THANK YOU JESUS!!! I LOVE YOU!!! GRACIAS PADRE!!! =D

  9. THE DANGER OF BEING A “KNOW IT ALL”

31 The ear that heareth the reproof of life abideth among the wise.
32 He that refuseth instruction despiseth his own soul: but he that heareth reproof getteth understanding.
33 The fear of the Lord is the instruction of wisdom; and before honour is humility.

The attitude and spirit that drives a “KNOW IT ALL” is PRIDE. It is wise to listen to someone even if you know about what they are saying or talking about. Understanding is more powerful and influential than knowledge.

Pride is the direct opposite of humility. Pride destroys the bridge to honor. Humility is the bridge to honor. To hear instruction, correction and to fear (respect) the LORD is the key to happiness.

  10. Vs.13, “A merry heart maketh a cheerful countenance: but by sorrow of the heart the spirit is broken.”

The first part of this scripture, “A merry heart maketh a cheerful countenance,” made me think of the Sunday School song that says, “If your happy and you know it, then your face will surely show it.”

The second part of this scripture, “by sorrow of the heart the spirit is broken,” made me so thankful that I know who JESUS is.

We all go throught difficult times in our lives, but it’s during these times that the peace of God, strength of God, and the knowledge of God and who he is and what he can do will see us through.

My family back in Illinois is going through some difficult times right now, but I stand upon the Word of God today that tells me, “He healeth the broken in heart, and bindeth up their wounds,” (Ps.147:3). He is the Prince of Peace, (Is.9:6). “For the Joy of the Lord is your strength,” (Ne.8:10). “He is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think,” (Eph. 3:20)

We serve a Great and Mighty God !!

  11. 33. The fear of The Lord will dispose us to search the Scripture with reverence; and it will cause us to follow the leadings of the Holy Spirit. While we humbly place all our dependence on the Grace of God, we are exalted in the righteousness of Christ. – MHCC

  12. 13 Later that same day Jesus left the house and sat beside the lake. 2 A large crowd soon gathered around him, so he got into a boat. Then he sat there and taught as the people stood on the shore. 3 He told many stories in the form of parables, such as this one:

“Listen! A farmer went out to plant some seeds. 4 As he scattered them across his field, some seeds fell on a footpath, and the birds came and ate them. 5 Other seeds fell on shallow soil with underlying rock. The seeds sprouted quickly because the soil was shallow. 6 But the plants soon wilted under the hot sun, and since they didn’t have deep roots, they died. 7 Other seeds fell among thorns that grew up and choked out the tender plants. 8 Still other seeds fell on fertile soil, and they produced a crop that was thirty, sixty, and even a hundred times as much as had been planted! 9 Anyone with ears to hear should listen and understand.”

    -Matthew 13: 1-9

Proverbs 15:7 The lips of the wise disperse knowledge: but the heart of the foolish doeth not so.

God gave us lips to spread the good news of HIM!!!! not for spreading gossip. We should be mindful of the things that come out of our mouths at all times, making sure we are doing the speaking the things that God would want us to be speaking and praising his name.

  14. Love carries you through

17 Better is a dinner of herbs where love is, than a stalled ox and hatred therewith.

How many times in ourlives have we been in a desolate situation where maybe it looks like there is no hope but the love of God, your family and your church held you up and looking back it seems like just a dream, like it never happened?

Our treasures should not be concerning what we drive, what we wear, where we live….But we should value an Awesome God, a Beautiful Family, and a Great Church. We have the formula for success here. Its not in the up times that you find out if you are going to succeed or not…It is in the tough times where you have to lean on love to carry you through. Some of the greatest times in our marriage was when we had nothing but each other. It brings you closer.

Look at the story of Josephs people and how love carried them through

    Exodus 1:8-12
Now there arose up a new king over Egypt, which knew not Joseph.

And he said unto his people, Behold, the people of the children of Israel [are] more and mightier than we:

Come on, let us deal wisely with them; lest they multiply, and it come to pass, that, when there falleth out any war, they join also unto our enemies, and fight against us, and [so] get them up out of the land.

Therefore they did set over them taskmasters to afflict them with their burdens. And they built for Pharaoh treasure cities, Pithom and Raamses.

But the more they afflicted them, the more they multiplied and grew. And they were grieved because of the children of Israel.

In these last days we will have to become one in our marriages, families and church. Bind together in love and stay strong.

  15. Amen to Pastor Watts!
Amen to Vs 1 a soft answer removes wrath. And a grievous words provoke anger.
I see that this is very true.

  16. This chapter illustrates guidance. Direction is given. One will find guidance in the Word of God (Jesus) if one wants it; “The way of life is above to the wise, that he may depart from hell beneath”. One must chose for one’s self to receive guidance, for surely the Lord knows ones heart; “The eyes of the Lord are in every place, beholding the evil and the good”. What a mighty God we serve! May the good Lord Bless you all in Jesus name, Amen

  17. 7 The lips of the wise disperse knowledge: but the heart of the foolish doeth not so.

28 The heart of the righteous studieth to answer: but the mouth of the wicked poureth out evil things.

    Respond/ React

Many people are considered smart, by some even wise, because they have an answer for any and everything. Here we are able to see te importance of knowing not only answering the questions properly when asked, but waiting until the approipate time to answer too.

I have heard people tell some new revelation, to have to go back and show them where the word says differently. That’s no fun. Part of being wise is the studing to be able to answer correctly. All too often, that’s where so many of us loose it, we don’t study before we answer, we react.

Pastor has taught that it is better to respond that to react. When we respond, we wait and respond approipately, rather than just jumping in head first, or some other knee-jerking reaction. Jesus corrected Peter when he reacted in the garden, and cut of the guards ear.

  18. 30 The light of the eyes rejoiceth the heart: and a good report maketh the bones fat.

31 The ear that heareth the reproof of life abideth among the wise.

32 He that refuseth instruction despiseth his own soul: but he that heareth reproof getteth understanding.

33 The fear of the Lord is the instruction of wisdom; and before honour is humility.

  19. Do you hear what I hear?

31 The ear that heareth the reproof of life abideth among the wise. 32 He that refuseth instruction despiseth his own soul: but he that heareth reproof getteth understanding. 33 The fear of the Lord is the instruction of wisdom; and before honour is humility.

In many things in life, it is our attitude that says more than what we say. When a child hears their parents tell them something that they did wrong, more so than not the child will creng. They know what they did and that it was wrong. We do the same thing. When we have sinned, and the word of God is put forth, we squirm in our seat, and think that everyone just found out about that sin that you did. Here is the truth. God speaks to the Pastor, then the Pastor speaks to the people, it is then and only then that we will either accept it and learn from our mistake, or we will shun it and just keep going. In vs. 32 it state ,” He that refuseth instruction despiseth his own soul:” Now this brings it into perspective. Do we hate our own soul? No we don’t, but we must if we do not listen to instruction.

Now in all this we can say that’s all good but ,”I want a postion that everyone can see me!” The greatest example is Jesus. He can in a humble manner. Born in a barn, lived to his earthly father, Joseph and learned to be a carpenter, then God raised him up when it was time. In vs. 33 it states ,” and before honour is humility.” I have been in a few church services where the man of God that was preaching did not honour the Pastor of the church to thank him for that opprotunity. Does this mean that he was not humble? I would say in light of this vs. Yes! When we are humble in our lives, God will raise us up in His timing.
One more note, I am remind of a song titled” Be still and know I am God!”

  20. 31 The ear that heareth the reproof of life abideth among the wise.

This vs is so important to me.
Because this is why we go to church Cause God most likely give wisdom mostly to his child of God. And thats why its so important to stay in church(in the boat).
we are safe in a multitude of counsel.
praise God usually brings in wisdom to us believers.
Thank u Lord for blessing me my life, family and of God’s family, food everyday, shelter, and rainment to wear, and the list goes on.
But not all this matters w/outGod.

    I love you God (Jesus)!
Thank u Lord for me being able to reach the WISE when Im not at the time needed.

  21. 2 The tongue of the wise useth knowledge aright: but the mouth of fools poureth out foolishness.

Out of the abundance of our heart the mouth speaketh. Be wise and mindful of what you say. The words you use can be a building block or a stumbling stone.

    You make the choice!

  22. v28 The heart of the righteous studieth to answer: but the mouth of the wicked pour with out evil things.

2 Timothy 2:15 ” Study to shew thyself approved unto GOD, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth .

We must be strong in the knowledge of HIS Word, as we minister to the lives that have been broken by sin and are seeking answers, and also for our own benefit a deeper knowledge of JESUS CHRIST ,HIS WORDS AND HIS WAYS brings peace , security and comfort that we find in HIM .

  23. Keep your nose clean

8 The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the Lord: but the prayer of the upright is his delight.

There is nothing wrong with sacrifice, or prayer. In fact both of these are apart of the daily walk. Why would sacrifice be considered an abomination?

The word abomination literally means something that makes God sick.

When the wicked sacrifice it makes God sick. God is not like an employer. There are people who do immoral, and vulgar things who still get the job done. Although none of these things are illegal, or unethical they do act in a way that is unseemly.

God looks at the heart. He cares more about our intentions, and motives than what we can do for him.

1 Samuel 16:7 But the Lord said to Samuel, Look not on his appearance or at the height of his stature, for I have rejected him. For the Lord sees not as man sees; for man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.

  24. Who is correcting you?

10 Correction is grievous unto him that forsaketh the way: and he that hateth reproof shall die.

Correction is good to those who listen and obey. Many times people will not receive correction. It is clear from this entire psalm that correction is necessary for growth and serving The Lord. If you don’t take correction it means that you would rather die that allow someone that help you in your struggles.

God corrects those he loves. If we don’t allow God to correct us or allow others to correct us then we don’t fully trust that God loves us.

  25. A Soft Answer

1 A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger.

2 The tongue of the wise useth knowledge aright: but the mouth of fools poureth out foolishness.

3 The eyes of the Lord are in every place, beholding the evil and the good.

4 A wholesome tongue is a tree of life: but perverseness therein is a breach in the spirit.

Isn’t it amazing that we serve a God who knows all of us, good and bad, and still can love us so much? God’s love can come very much as a soft answer in the midst of our storm. Sometimes we feel raw and wounded and are so focused on survival that we build high walls around our hearts, only for a sudden soft Word to cause our defenses to crumble. God knows what we need and He speaks with that wholesome tongue of life.

    1 Kings 19:11-13
11 And he said, Go forth, and stand upon the mount before the Lord. And, behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and brake in pieces the rocks before the Lord; but the Lord was not in the wind: and after the wind an earthquake; but the Lord was not in the earthquake: 12 And after the earthquake a fire; but the Lord was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice. 13 And it was so, when Elijah heard it, that he wrapped his face in his mantle, and went out, and stood in the entering in of the cave. And, behold, there came a voice unto him, and said, What doest thou here, Elijah?

In the midst of trouble, chaos, confusion, pain, and disappointment, suddenly that soft answer of the Lord comes. God already knows all our situation, but just as He asked Elijah what he was doing there, so does God sometimes try to lead us to confessing it ourselves. We may know, and we may know God knows, but have we opened that line of communication and talked with Him about it? God wants access to our hearts, and He desires our permission for communion there. He is omnipresent, but He manifest presence comes and goes. The glory of the Lord shows up at church, but does it show up in our hearts during the chaotic times? Does He have permission to speak with that soft answer into our lives?

23 A man hath joy by the answer of his mouth: and a word spoken in due season, how good is it!

God has a Due Season Word for us, does He have our permission to speak, and are we ready to receive it? Will we receive His love?

  26. 11 Hell and destruction are before the Lord: how much more then the hearts of the children of men?

God sees everything..every action, every attitude the paths we take on our every day life, how we treat others and ourselves, how we treat Him. Our hearts are before Him. He tries the hearts and searches the intents and motives…what can we withhold from Him? Nothing. Then let’s just be honest…in prayer tell God how you really feel, about everything. Allow Him acces to be Lord of all areas of your life. He knows the most vital part of ourselves, the heart, why try to keep anything from Him. Making Lord of your heart and all of your life today.

  27. You can run but you can’t hide

3 The eyes of the Lord are in every place, beholding the evil and the good.

I hear too many stories of people leaving the church or running from God. *News flash* you can’t run from God. He has loved you before you were created. Too many are chasing after the love they think they deserve rather than realizing He is the love we deserve. God loves you, every inch every hair… Don’t settle yourself short for the lies of the devil and this world. The devil is jealous and envious of how wonderful Gods love is toward us. So before you run think twice… Lets make the devil jealous

  28. Verses 30-33 MSG “A twinkle in the eye means joy in the heart, and good news makes you feel fit as a fiddle. Listen to good advice if you want to live well, an honored guest among wise men and women. An undisciplined, self-willed life is puny; an obedient, God-willed life is spacious. Fear-of-God is a school in skilled living—first you learn humility, then you experience glory.” No guts…no glory! (Have the guts to get on your knees and seek direction).

  29. 32 He that refuseth instruction despiseth his own soul: but he that heareth reproof getteth understanding.
33 The fear of the Lord is the instruction of wisdom; and before honour is humility.

Help me Lord to keep a teachable spirit-always able to continue to grow in knowledge & wisdom of you. Your word keeps us and directs us and I am thankful you have made a way for sinful, self-willed mankind to be saved. I pray that the lost will desire your ways over the ways of this world! Only through your word can we find your ways.

  30. The Eye of the Lord

vs 3 The eyes of the LORD are everywhere, keeping watch on the wicked and the good.

When evil seems to triumph over good in the world around us, or even in our own families, our faith on God’s presence and justice can waver. Here Solomon reminds is of a faith-enhancing truth: God is fully aware, every moment, of what is going on in the world he created as well as in the heart of every person (Pr 15:11). No deed or motive, whether good or evil, escapes his notice. For those whose sin is covered by the atoning blood of Jesus Christ, this is good news indeed. Not only is God dillegently keeping loving watch over us, but he is keeping tabs on those have rejected him. While he wants every person to bow in repentance and become his own (2 Pe 3:9), we have his word that those who have no regard for his ways will be dealt with justly and those who love him will be blessed (2 Th 2:10-17; Rev 21:6-8).

  31. “If Only” Thinking

In a world that values money and power above most everything else, it’s easy to fall into the trap of “if only” thinking: if only..we had had more mony, we would be happy; if only we had all the goodies and influence that the ‘so-and-so’s’ have, our family would have it all. But just because someone else has more in terms of wealth or position than we do doesn’t mean they are better off. Human beings are created for relationship, so when their relationships with others are at odds, they really can’t be happy, no matter what they physically posses.Without love, they might as well be starving. Better veggies with love than steak with strife.

  32. The Lord sees everything and knows the intentions of the heart. How great is our God he leads the way to righteousness but we choose which way we will go. Lord you are merciful to those that do good and persue righteousness. Lord my heart is yours, guide me so I don’t fall into any wickedness, grant me the knowledge, wisdom and understanding that I need to do your Holy will so I can serve you as you deserve Lord.
