Proverbs 16

1 The preparations of the heart in man, and the answer of the tongue, is from the Lord.

All the ways of a man are clean in his own eyes; but the Lord weigheth the spirits.

Commit thy works unto the Lord, and thy thoughts shall be established.

The Lord hath made all things for himself: yea, even the wicked for the day of evil.

Every one that is proud in heart is an abomination to the Lord: though hand join in hand, he shall not be unpunished.

By mercy and truth iniquity is purged: and by the fear of the Lord men depart from evil.

When a man’s ways please the Lord, he maketh even his enemies to be at peace with him.

Better is a little with righteousness than great revenues without right.

A man’s heart deviseth his way: but the Lord directeth his steps.

10 A divine sentence is in the lips of the king: his mouth transgresseth not in judgment.

11 A just weight and balance are the Lord’s: all the weights of the bag are his work.

12 It is an abomination to kings to commit wickedness: for the throne is established by righteousness.

13 Righteous lips are the delight of kings; and they love him that speaketh right.

14 The wrath of a king is as messengers of death: but a wise man will pacify it.

15 In the light of the king’s countenance is life; and his favour is as a cloud of the latter rain.

16 How much better is it to get wisdom than gold! and to get understanding rather to be chosen than silver!

17 The highway of the upright is to depart from evil: he that keepeth his way preserveth his soul.

18 Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.

19 Better it is to be of an humble spirit with the lowly, than to divide the spoil with the proud.

20 He that handleth a matter wisely shall find good: and whoso trusteth in the Lord, happy is he.

21 The wise in heart shall be called prudent: and the sweetness of the lips increaseth learning.

22 Understanding is a wellspring of life unto him that hath it: but the instruction of fools is folly.

23 The heart of the wise teacheth his mouth, and addeth learning to his lips.

24 Pleasant words are as an honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health to the bones.

25 There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.

26 He that laboureth laboureth for himself; for his mouth craveth it of him.

27 An ungodly man diggeth up evil: and in his lips there is as a burning fire.

28 A froward man soweth strife: and a whisperer separateth chief friends.

29 A violent man enticeth his neighbour, and leadeth him into the way that is not good.

30 He shutteth his eyes to devise froward things: moving his lips he bringeth evil to pass.

31 The hoary head is a crown of glory, if it be found in the way of righteousness.

32 He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty; and he that ruleth his spirit than he that taketh a city.

33 The lot is cast into the lap; but the whole disposing thereof is of the Lord.

  1. In this scripture are many instructional tools. All are equally valuable to know or to utilize. But, being slow to anger, and ruling ones spirit is highly important and examplifies our Saviour Jesus. When you apply this, your are being a good Ambassador for Christ. I didn’t say this was easy, but just like patience it’s not a spiritual gift. “It’s developed in time.”

    “Now”…….

  2. This passage is a good lesson to learn about neighbors:

Me and my husband has a wonderful neighbor.
He’s like a brother to us. We’ve had some ups and downs but we’ve always tried to be greatful to him.
If we were to move it will be hard to leave such a great part of our family.
But we will still keep intouch. The Lord’s very sure with truth when He talks on this subject about neighbors it’s very sacred to the Lord.
We lift Jesus up everytime we are curtious to people.
This passage was a soft answer from the Lord to me.
    Thank you Jesus.
You are GREAT and GREATLY PRAISED!

    EXODUS 20:16-17

16 Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor.
17 Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor’s house thou shalt not covet thy neighbor’s wife, nor his manservant, nor maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor anything that is thy neighbor’s.

Love your neighbor as you love yourself.

God, thank you for reminding me what’s really true to YOUR heart.

  3. 3 A froward man soweth strife: and a whisperer separateth chief friends.

    Beware of the whisper

A whisper seems harmless because not everybody hears it. It mayor start out small, but it will grow fast. A whisper is a product of gossip and gossip a product of sin . Sin when it is finished bringeth forth death. Our voice should always utter things that gives God praise. So, instead of allowing a whisper to come out, lets turn it into worship.

  4. If we commit our ways to the Lord and follow him, then we will please him. We must gaurd our spirit and not let it become evil in the sight of the Lord.

  5. 7 When a man’s ways please the Lord, he maketh even his enemies to be at peace with him.

When we put God first and try to please Him, everything else falls into place.

  6. 22 Understanding is a wellspring of life unto him that hath it: but the instruction of fools is folly.

Such power in these scriptures, but I want to look at understanding. What does true understanding bring us? we should realize what it means to have a revelation (understanding) notice it says it is a wellspring of life. Life will bring us a lot of things, disappointment, sorrow, etc. It will also bring great joy and happiness if we have a true understanding we know that all things work together for the good to them that love God.
Now if our instructions are of the fools, folly we will always have a life filled with trouble.

God help me drink of that WELLSPRING OF LIFE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  7. 18 Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.
19 Better it is to be of an humble spirit with the lowly, than to divide the spoil with the proud.

Keep our spirit & attitudes in check oh Lord for eternity in hell is not worth any honor this world can give. In Jesus Name I pray. Amen

  8. THE PLEASURES OF PLEASING GOD

7 When a man’s ways please the Lord, he maketh even his enemies to be at peace with him.

The result or evidence of PLEASING GOD is to live in PEACE. PEACE crushes and destroys satan through JESUS.

By all means NOW please the LORD in all that we do.

    iPraise
    iPray
    iWork
    iGive
    iReap

    NOW

  9. Verse 9 MSG “We plan the way we want to live, but only God makes us able to live it.” We must do as verse 3 says “Put God in charge of your work, then what you’ve planned will take place.”

I am so grateful for the leadership that God has placed in the lives of my family. Verse 12 MSG “Good leaders abhor wrongdoing of all kinds; sound leadership has a moral foundation.”

  10. 7 When a man’s ways please the Lord, he maketh even his enemies to be at peace with him.
When you are pleasing The Lord and doing what God want you do then why worry what other people think. The only one I want to please is The Lord. I want to hear the words thou good and faithful servant! The enemy will try to get you to loose sight of what God want you to do so be careful that you are pleasing the right person

  11. ILove to eat the Word!

    PEACE BROTHER

7 When a man’s ways please the Lord, he maketh even his enemies to be at peace with him.

Let God fight the battle for us!

Numbers 12:3(Now Moses was a very humble man, more humble than anyone else on the face of the earth.)

Moses ways pleased The Lord. Humility always pleases The Lord. Moses didn’t try to defend himself against his enemy (satan rose up against Moses through Miriam and Aaron.)

1And Miriam and Aaron spoke against Moses because of the Ethiopian woman whom he had married: for he had married an Ethiopian woman.

2And they said, Has the LORD indeed spoken only by Moses? has he not spoken also by us? And the LORD heard it.

When a mans ways please The Lord… GOD MAKES his enemies be at peace.

7My servant Moses is not thus, who is faithful in all my house.

8With him will I speak mouth to mouth, even clearly, and not in dark sayings; and the form of the LORD shall he behold: why then were you not afraid to speak against my servant Moses?

9And the anger of the LORD was kindled against them; and he departed.

10And the cloud departed from off the tabernacle; and, behold, Miriam became leprous, as white as snow: and Aaron looked upon Miriam, and, behold, she was leprous.

LET’S SERVE THE LORD AND STOP TRYING TO DEFEND OURSELVES… Let God do it for us.

  12. 7 When a man’s ways please the Lord, he maketh even his enemies to be at peace with him.

Ever wonder why there is confusion and strife in our lives? We may need to check our hearts, our submission to authority, our prayer life, our Word intake because according to the scripture when we are seeking to do the will of the Lord in ever aspect of our lives, He will make our enemies to be at peace with us.

Sometimes we create our own confusion, and we must order our steps by the word of God and make preparations in our heart that ever answer we give is from the Lord.

  13. 3 Commit thy works unto the Lord, and thy thoughts shall be established
6 By mercy and truth iniquity is purged: and by the fear of the Lord men depart from evil.

A commitment speaks volumes. We are doing our best to serve God and when he sees us heading the wrong direction while serving, his mercy brings the correction we need to stay on the right path. I’m thankful he made a way to fix my wrong choices.

  14. 16-9
The rabbis did not see the declaration of sovereignty but a call to purification . If you choose to live Gods way God will direct your steps to your desired godliness

  15. HALELUJAH!!! HALELUJAH!!! HALELUJAH!!!
33 The lot is cast into the lap; but the whole disposing thereof is of the Lord.
YES DADDY!!! WE THINK THAT WE CAN DO AND DO AND UNDO BUT GOD IS THE ONE THAT HAS THE LAST WORD!!!
WE THINK THAT WE CAN SAY AND SAY AND WE CAN SING TOO BUT WE TEND TO FORGET THAT GOD IS THE ONE THAT KNOWS AND JUDGES THE INTENT OF THE HEART!!! I LOVE YOU DADDY!!! =D

  16. Wisdom thought the years

31 The hoary head is a crown of glory, if it be found in the way of righteousness.

    hoary[ hawr-ee, hohr-ee ]
    adjective hoar·i·er, hoar·i·est.
gray or white with age: an old dog with a hoary muzzle.

The best advise is give from those that have been there. A network of aged council is one of the secrets to success. Listen to you elders, they know what thier talking about.

4 Thy father made our yoke grievous: now therefore make thou the grievous service of thy father, and his heavy yoke which he put upon us, lighter, and we will serve thee.
5 And he said unto them, Depart yet [for] three days, then come again to me. And the people departed.
6 And king Rehoboam consulted with the old men, that stood before Solomon his father while he yet lived, and said, How do ye advise that I may answer this people?
7 And they spake unto him, saying, If thou wilt be a servant unto this people this day, and wilt serve them, and answer them, and speak good words to them, then they will be thy servants for ever.
8 But he forsook the counsel of the old men, which they had given him, and consulted with the young men that were grown up with him, [and] which stood before him:
9 And he said unto them, What counsel give ye that we may answer this people, who have spoken to me, saying, Make the yoke which thy father did put upon us lighter?
10 And the young men that were grown up with him spake unto him, saying, Thus shalt thou speak unto this people that spake unto thee, saying, Thy father made our yoke heavy, but make thou [it] lighter unto us; thus shalt thou say unto them, My little [finger] shall be thicker than my father’s loins.

16 So when all Israel saw that the king hearkened not unto them, the people answered the king, saying, What portion have we in David? neither [have we] inheritance in the son of Jesse: to your tents, O Israel: now see to thine own house, David. So Israel departed unto their tents.

The council of the old would have kept him out of trouble but the council of the young made everyone leave him.

No one want to fallow you to hell. They want to make sure that you are doing the right thing. The council of the elders is necessary for a successful leader.

  17. 20 He that handleth a matter wisely shall find good: and whoso trusteth in the Lord, happy is he. 21 The wise in heart shall be called prudent: and the sweetness of the lips increaseth learning. 22 Understanding is a wellspring of life unto him that hath it: but the instruction of fools is folly. 23 The heart of the wise teacheth his mouth, and addeth learning to his lips.

    Think , Learn , Teach

I have had the opportunity to learn how to be a leader. Now I am learning how to apply those things. The more knowledge we have the more opportunity we have to teach. God gave us a brain ,and as It has been said ,” a mind is a terrible thing to waste.” Use what God gave us.

  18. This chapter illustrates understanding. Much knowledge and insight is provided. If one can grasp the Word of God (Jesus), and if one will apply it to one’s life, then one will be victorious; “Commit thy works unto the Lord, and thy thoughts shall be established”. What a mighty God we serve! May the good Lord Bless you all in Jesus name, Amen

  19. v4 The LORD hath made all things for himself: yea, even the wicked for the day of evil.

Fact: GOD created and controls all things

GOD knew that not all would surrender to HIS plan of salvation . Humanity has the freedom to obey or rebel.

Paul stated that GOD made all human beings to be one people that they might seek after Him. It’s our choice i choose to obey and seek after HIM.

Acts17:27″ Though he be not far from every one of us”

    iSeek
    iObey
    iPray
    iPraise
    Now

  20. 32 He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty; and he that ruleth his spirit than he that taketh a city.

    Who’s the Boss

As a person tries to rule over his/ her spirit they learn that it is easier said than done. The word tells us that He knows the thoughts and the intents of our hearts, and that if we have any unholy, or ungodly inclinations at all, He knows. It will only be through the purest of hearts and with the purest of motives that we are to be found righteous. In order to truly rule our spirits, we must be holy.

  21. At Peace

vs 7 When the LORD takes pleasure in anyone’s way, he causes their enemies to make peace with them.

A mark of people who fear God and live wisely is often peace (Pr 12:20; 29:17), peace in all their ways (Pr 3:17). Now Solomon takes the promise one step further: People who love and please God can even live in peace with those who consider them an enemy. 2 Ch 14:1-7 describes this phenomenon in King Asa’s life. To discover that people’s actions and heart attitudes can have profound and practical effect for good on those around them (even on their enemies!) is liberating and enpowering. Often one of the by-products of choosing to live rightly is recieving the peace and rest that everyone longs to experience.

  22. Where Pride Leads

vs 18 Pride goes before destruction a haughty spirit before the fall.

feeling good about ourselves and our accomplishments is not sinful, and there is no virtue in putting ourselves down or belittling our gifts. The kind of pride Solomon renounces here is the same kind Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, demonstrated. He displayed his arrogance first, then humiliation and restoration in Daniel 4:28-37. The monarch’s mistake was not in enjoying his position and the splendor of his kingdom, but in taking all the credit for it and forgetting that everything was and had was a gift came from a sovereign God. When the king came to his senses, he have God the glory and took his proper place in the scheme of things. Wisdom and humility go hand in hand (Pr 11:2), and a humble person will be honored by God (Pr 29:23).

  23. Good leaders abhor wrongdoing of all kinds; sound leadership has a moral foundation. Good leaders cultivate honest speech; they love advisors who tell them the truth. Good-tempered leaders invigorate lives; they’re like spring rain and sunshine. (Proverbs 16:12, 13, 15 MSG)
A leader leads at all times. Not only when you’re being watched by others, but even when no one else is watching. A true leader doesn’t bring you down in front of others so that they may look good. But in fact encourages you, motivates you, and inspire
you. There’s already way to many “leaders”, but a true leader will always follow and obey the word God, and encourages you in the Word! So make sure you know that you’re following the right leader, and not one who will just tickle your ear with empty words.

  24. Humility Divided
19 Better it is to be of an humble spirit with the lowly, than to divide the spoil with the proud.

People of this world are always seeking fame, fortune, and recognition. They don’t see that treasures of this world are vain. We constantly have to keep ourselves in check. We always need to be humble. It doesn’t mean that God won’t bless you with money or resources, it just means that you must stay humble when you do get those things.

Humility (adjectival form: humble) is the quality of being modest or respectful.

Humility, in various interpretations, is widely seen as a virtue in many religious and philosophical traditions, being connected with notions of egolessness.

Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up. (James 4:10 KJV)

  25. Making God first in our lives is of upmost importance. Including God in our everyday lives will please and honor God. Inviting God to help me make the right decisions would be wise because he knows what is best for me even though I have ideas already in my mind. Share your plans with the Lord because only he knows what will make you succeed.

Lord help me to make the right decisions in life that are pleasing to you, for you will determine what will happen no matter my decisions.

  26. Comes a time when no matter how hard you may be working on something that you think is pleasing to God but it really isn’t. That you realize am I doing this to glorify self or to glorify God. In the eyes of God nothing goes left unseen without his approval. The Lord makes the final decisions in the choices we make. I have learned that pride is a selfish tool that takes happiness away from our life, but it’s a shield that’s placed to protect us from the world not knowing that it’s only hurting ourselves. God knows when we are genuine and when we fake our inner selves.

God protects his children and guides us. His will be done at the end no matter what we plan or do. Lord help me to do your will and not mine, to always shine for you. Deliver me from all temptation that I may think is pleasing to you but really isn’t.

  27. Sweet Words

What are we speaking to ourselves? Is “the law of kindness” in our mouths or are we hard and unforgiving? “The sweetness of the lips increaseth learning” and “the heart of the wise teacheth his mouth;” do we lead ourselves in the way of mercy and truth? If we can’t talk to ourselves with sweetness and speak words of life, how can we expect to turn around and genuinely minister that sort of kindness to another? If you can’t lead yourself, you can’t expect to lead others. We do well to instruct and correct ourselves in the Word with mercy and truth:

6 By mercy and truth iniquity is purged: and by the fear of the Lord men depart from evil.

Truly fearing God leads us to loving the way He does, which means loving ourselves correctly. If we can’t show our own self Holy Ghost love, then we cut off the flow of love to “love our neighbors as ourselves.” The way we treat ourselves bleeds over into how we treat others, especially those near to us. God’s love for us even in the face of our failures should be an example of the love we should have for our own self in the face of failure.

God’s words are sweet, let’s follow His example and speak sweet words even when it’s only to ourselves. We may think no one else hears but God does, and eventually everyone else too that we come in contact with as it flows through our lives.

    Psalms 119:103
How sweet are thy words unto my taste! yea, sweeter than honey to my mouth!

  28. Proverbs 16: A man’s heart deviseth his way :but the Lord directs his steps
Thank You for your guidance. Keep me on the right path when my own plans are flawed because only You know when you need me to be today and tomorrow.

  29. When a man’s ways please the Lord, he maketh even his enemies to be at peace with him.

Give the battle to the Lord… I just love how God takes care of all things. This is a great word of promise to us. We won’t have to fight enemies if we just concentrate on pleasing the Lord.

  30. Plug it in!

14 The wrath of a king is as messengers of death: but a wise man will pacify it.

Out of your mouth flows either rivers of life or death. I your constantly killing with your mouth how are you living? We need to be an example of the all mighty king and be wise by “plugging it in!”. Put a plug in your mouth and plug into Jesus.

  31. 1 We can make our own plans,
but the Lord gives the right answer (NLT)

I was forwarded a picture not to long ago of a sign that said ” Life happens, when you have other plans”. I recall that picture every time, things in my life don’t go according to plan. It was funny that that person had sent me that picture, because I had just finished reading a book called Plan B: When God Doesn’t Show Up the way you expected— this book gave me a whole new insight on life’s Plan B’s and the beauty and blessing that can flow from them. I’m learning that some of your biggest heartaches, your darkest moments and greatest trails—can very well turn into your biggest and greatest blessing you’ve yet to experience. If you just give it to God and let him work on it–for everything he makes over is beautiful.

  32. 3 Commit thy works unto the Lord, and thy thoughts shall be established.

19 Better it is to be of an humble spirit with the lowly, than to divide the spoil with the proud.

20 He that handleth a matter wisely shall find good: and whoso trusteth in the Lord, happy is he.
