Proverbs 17

1 Better is a dry morsel, and quietness therewith, than an house full of sacrifices with strife.

A wise servant shall have rule over a son that causeth shame, and shall have part of the inheritance among the brethren.

The fining pot is for silver, and the furnace for gold: but the Lord trieth the hearts.

A wicked doer giveth heed to false lips; and a liar giveth ear to a naughty tongue.

Whoso mocketh the poor reproacheth his Maker: and he that is glad at calamities shall not be unpunished.

Children’s children are the crown of old men; and the glory of children are their fathers.

Excellent speech becometh not a fool: much less do lying lips a prince.

A gift is as a precious stone in the eyes of him that hath it: whithersoever it turneth, it prospereth.

He that covereth a transgression seeketh love; but he that repeateth a matter separateth very friends.

10 A reproof entereth more into a wise man than an hundred stripes into a fool.

11 An evil man seeketh only rebellion: therefore a cruel messenger shall be sent against him.

12 Let a bear robbed of her whelps meet a man, rather than a fool in his folly.

13 Whoso rewardeth evil for good, evil shall not depart from his house.

14 The beginning of strife is as when one letteth out water: therefore leave off contention, before it be meddled with.

15 He that justifieth the wicked, and he that condemneth the just, even they both are abomination to the Lord.

16 Wherefore is there a price in the hand of a fool to get wisdom, seeing he hath no heart to it?

17 A friend loveth at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.

18 A man void of understanding striketh hands, and becometh surety in the presence of his friend.

19 He loveth transgression that loveth strife: and he that exalteth his gate seeketh destruction.

20 He that hath a froward heart findeth no good: and he that hath a perverse tongue falleth into mischief.

21 He that begetteth a fool doeth it to his sorrow: and the father of a fool hath no joy.

22 A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones.

23 A wicked man taketh a gift out of the bosom to pervert the ways of judgment.

24 Wisdom is before him that hath understanding; but the eyes of a fool are in the ends of the earth.

25 A foolish son is a grief to his father, and bitterness to her that bare him.

26 Also to punish the just is not good, nor to strike princes for equity.

27 He that hath knowledge spareth his words: and a man of understanding is of an excellent spirit.

28 Even a fool, when he holdeth his peace, is counted wise: and he that shutteth his lips is esteemed a man of understanding.

  1. God knows all things~

I try to do things my way.
    And it never works out.
Because maybe I didnt seek the Lord first.
But NOW I will seek Him.

    Thank u Jesus.

    I enjoy You Jesus.

    DUETERONOMY 6:5

5 And thou shalt love the Lord our God with all your heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy heart.

  2. Respect

Whoso mocketh the poor reproacheth his Maker: and he that is glad at calamities shall not be unpunished. (Proverbs 17:5 KJV)

This scripture reminds me of when I was in high school. I went with FHA to a shelter in downtown. One of the teachers was very humble. The other one was loud about making fun of a few homeless people. She Ben pushed a half eaten pop-tart out the window at a man and screamed for him to pick it up and eat it.

We went twice. My heart still hurts with the simplicity of their wants and needs. I went for Christmas and Thanksgiving. We made the people baling a sandwiches. Some of the kids were telling us things they wanted. They didn’t want fancy toys. They wanted their families put back together. They wanted socks for their cold feet.

Did not I weep for him that was in trouble? was not my soul grieved for the poor? (Job 30:25 KJV)

Lord help me to be humble. Help me to be always kind to others. God don’t let pride or fear ruion my attitude toward those you love, in Jesus name–amen!

  3. This chapter illustrates teaching. There are valuable lessons/teachings provided. The Word of God (Jesus) and the man of God, will teach one much, if one will but allow; “A reproof entereth more into a wise man than an hundred stripes into a fool”. What a mighty God we serve! May the good Lord Bless you all in Jesus name, Amen

  4. v6 Children’s children are the crown of old old men; and the glory of children are their fathers.

Parents are the glory of their children, so we must not let them down, but love and encourage them everyday .They need to assured that our love for them will NEVER be withdrawn because of their appearance ,achievements or actions. As we continue to help them build strong character and godly values.
Just as our Heavenly Father Loves and encourages us and we are so proud of HIM
and we Glory in HIM for who HE IS!!!!

    ——
On every single chapter so far (1-17…)
The book of proverbs talk abut the necessity
    Of keeping our mouth shut.
It’s a lot better and we can prevent a lot
Of problems if we just hang there letting GOD
to handle it instead of us.
—A small spark can create a HUGE fire….
LORD! Continue helping us with this matter.
Cleanse us daily, purify us daily and help us lean not on our own understanding and let you say what’s better for the other companion instead of us, cause we can easily ruin it with in seconds.for you have given is a SPIRIT of
Power, love and a sound mind.
    In Jesus name I pray.

  9. DON’T WORRY, BE HAPPY

A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones. (Proverbs 17:22 KJV)

Merry means joyful, glad, rejoicing and showing joy. The trials and pains of life cause sorrow and sadness. This verse gives us understanding of how important it is for us to BE HAPPY.

Heb “a heart of rejoicing”; KJV “a merry heart”; NAB, NASB “a joyful heart.” This attributive genitive refers to the mind or psyche. A happy and healthy outlook on life brings healing.

This can only happen through living a life for JESUS!

A broken spirit makes you feel dry, broken and empty.

The “crushed spirit” refers to one who is depressed (cf. NAB “a depressed spirit”). “Crushed” is figurative (an implied comparison) for the idea that one’s psyche or will to go on is beaten down by circumstances.

If you are feeling sick in any form today, you will be healed when you allow the JOY of the LORD to work in you.

Choose JOY and Choose LIFE. Be healed in JESUS name.

    iPray
    iWork
    iGive

    NOW

  10. 17-14
The imagery is especially clear . We can stop a leak in a dam when its tiny unless we stop the hole it will get lager and become a raging torrent. Be quick to forgive and say im sorry or great dammage might comre to a important relanonship

  11. Don’t Worry, Be Happy

22 A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones.

I want to be whole. If a merry heart is like a good medicine than I want to be happy. God made us to be happy. When he said in Genesis, “that it was good,” I believe that he was happy with what he made. I know a few people that have said ,” Well, I don’t like the outdoors, because of…” My question to them have been why not? If God created all things than why do we not like something? If God created it than isn’t it good? Be happy in all things!

  12. 28 Even a fool, when he holdeth his peace, is counted wise: and he that shutteth his lips is esteemed a man of understanding.

Sometimes is better just to listen and not give our opinion or a piece of our minds. God knows better…listen to what all is said evaluate situation and discern with wisdom.

  13. 1 Better is a dry morsel, and quietness therewith, than an house full of sacrifices with strife.

    Quiet Dinner for Two, Please..

I have had days, as I am sure that most haveas well, where I just wanted to eat in total silence, because the world around me had been so taxing all day long. I am pretty sure while that could apply here, the writer here is refering to the fact that with many wives, he was always facing STRIFE.

We are no different today. While most of us limit ourselves to only one physical wife at a time, we are still torn by the many things that we are married to: our job, our church, the ministry we are serving in, the latest fads, our cars, our hobbies, our friends, no matter what it is that we are married to, Christ and our wife ahould be top proirity for us. We can be too busy and have our hands into too many things, and not have peace and joy, because we are serving for here…

  14. ILove to eat the Word

    The Law of Forgiveness

9 He that covereth a transgression seeketh love; but he that repeateth a matter separateth very friends.

Thank-You brother Tallent for listening to the voice of God and preaching an awesome message!

Love covers sin, when someone sins against us, we must allow love to cover every sin. If we don’t, sin will separate us from each other and also seperate us from the very presence of God.

    The Law of Forgivness

  15. 2 A wise servant shall have rule over a son that causeth shame, and shall have part of the inheritance among the brethren.

Our relationship does not prove our inheritance. We are born into the kingdom, but it goes beyond just being related to Jesus. Now that we are born into the kingdom we are to take on his likeness.

    Ephesians 4:13
13 Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:

    Philippians 2:7
7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:

To be like Jesus…pick up a towel

  16. 3 The fining pot is for silver, and the furnace for gold: but the Lord trieth the hearts.

Not every trial we go through is from the enemy. The Lord has to try our heart sometimes to see if we be of the faith or not. Just like the fiery kiln that put is put in to shape/mold it, and the heated furnace the gold is put in to bring impurities to the top so they can be removed, God must send us through the fire. It is during these times that our character is shaped and our integrity is honed so that when we come forth we will have a pure testimony!

Lord try my heart! I want to purified!

  17. 22 A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones.

You affect your health by your attitude and spirit. What is your health like? Do you go around in the sad mode all the time or do you have a happy smile on your face and think good and postitive thoughts? A happy and cheerful spirit will improve your health but a wounded and negative spirit can ruin it. Sin destroys a merry heart. We at POFW heard an amazing sermon tonight on The Law of Forgiveness thanks Bro Tallant for that word tonite and letting God speak thru you. If you have bitterness in your heart you do not have a merry heart…..I want God to create in me a clean heart and renew in me a right spirit…..

  18. What Are We Seeking?

9 He that covereth a transgression seeketh love; but he that repeateth a matter separateth very friends.

Words are powerful. If we talk negative about ourselves to ourselves, we can separate ourselves from friendship with God. A stumbling may turn into a full backsliding if we let a sin become an immovable wedge in our hearts between us and God. Sometimes a matter of forgiveness is that concerning ourselves: will we forgive ourselves and cover the transgression by seeking love? We must remember:

    1 John 4:7-9
7 Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. 8 He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love. 9 In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.

    Seek love, seek Jesus

  19. iForgive

The start of a quarrel is like a leak in a dam, so stop it before it bursts. (Proverbs 17:14 MSG)

As we learned tonight, when we don’t forgive then God won’t forgive us. We need to not let things build up so deep inside so it disallows us to love our neighbor. If God is love then we need to be like Christ and show love to everyone.
Before your broken dam bursts forgive! Remember that you effect everyone around you. By holding grudges your allowing multiple spirits to attack and latch onto your life.

    iForgive

  20. In this scripture, there are many key factors. In which, God expects and it would benefit each and everyone of us. If, only we have the strength and grace of God to do it. In the next verse is something we should never forget do to avoiding evil in our homes.

So, pay close attention to this verse and pray about it. We don’t exchange evil for evil nor evil for good, nor do we condone evil, but do good to those who do evil to us. Pray for those who do evil to us, or persecute us. We are to love our enemies, and pray for them. “FORGIVE”………………

13 Whoso rewardeth evil for good, evil shall not depart from his house.
    _______________________________________________________
Well, I don’t want to be thirsty….I want to be happy, and have a merry heart because I need all the Jesus medicine I can get, Amen & Amen.

22 A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones.
    _______________________________________________________
This is an excellent message of hush hush, and I desire an excellent spirit! You also gain understanding….so hold your peace. “Watch those lips, and may God keep an seal upon our lips to keep us from evil”…..

27 He that hath knowledge spareth his words: and a man of understanding is of an excellent spirit.

28 Even a fool, when he holdeth his peace, is counted wise: and he that shutteth his lips is esteemed a man of understanding.

  21. Verse 14 MSG “The start of a quarrel is like a leak in a dam, so stop it before it bursts.” This is a good verse for young married couples or young couples about to marry.

  22. 22 A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones.

God gives us the power to overcome obsticles and situations if we only believe in him, if we only call on his sweet name, if we only would invite him into our hearts and repent, if we would only give up pride. God will strengthen us because he loves us and wants us to be happy.

Lord your unconditional love is all I need in my lfe. Thank you for mercy and grace.

  23. 14 The beginning of strife is as when one letteth out water: therefore leave off contention, before it be meddled with.

When strife builds up in us, it is important for us to get a hold of it quickly. Carrying around bitterness and wrath towards something or someone, will eat away at our joy and happiness and will hinder our relationship with God. It will can not get a hold of these feeling we must ask God in prayer for his help. Where we are weak the Holy Spirit is strong. What we can not heal/remove from our emotions he can. The bible say “we have not because we ask not”.

  24. Its Our Choice To Be Happy

vs 22 22 A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones.

The adage “Happiness is a choice” could be applied here. When circumstances threaten to crush people’s spirits and sink them into gloom, they need the powerful “medicine” of joy more than ever. Solomon is probably not advocating a superficial “grin and bear it” or “put on a happy face” mentality, but instead, a deep abiding faith that all will be well for those who trust in the Lord instead. Life’s trials and disappointments can indeed feel crushing at times, but we need not roll over in dispair. Rather, the prescription for happiness is at our fingertips. We can cultivate our faith in the profoundly good news of the One who encourages us with these words: “I have told you these things, so that in me you will have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” (Jn 16:33).

  25. 14 The beginning of strife is as when one letteth out water: therefore leave off contention, before it be meddled with.
