Proverbs 22

1 A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favour rather than silver and gold.

The rich and poor meet together: the Lord is the maker of them all.

A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself: but the simple pass on, and are punished.

By humility and the fear of the Lord are riches, and honour, and life.

Thorns and snares are in the way of the froward: he that doth keep his soul shall be far from them.

Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.

The rich ruleth over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the lender.

He that soweth iniquity shall reap vanity: and the rod of his anger shall fail.

He that hath a bountiful eye shall be blessed; for he giveth of his bread to the poor.

10 Cast out the scorner, and contention shall go out; yea, strife and reproach shall cease.

11 He that loveth pureness of heart, for the grace of his lips the king shall be his friend.

12 The eyes of the Lord preserve knowledge, and he overthroweth the words of the transgressor.

13 The slothful man saith, There is a lion without, I shall be slain in the streets.

14 The mouth of strange women is a deep pit: he that is abhorred of the Lord shall fall therein.

15 Foolishness is bound in the heart of a child; but the rod of correction shall drive it far from him.

16 He that oppresseth the poor to increase his riches, and he that giveth to the rich, shall surely come to want.

17 Bow down thine ear, and hear the words of the wise, and apply thine heart unto my knowledge.

18 For it is a pleasant thing if thou keep them within thee; they shall withal be fitted in thy lips.

19 That thy trust may be in the Lord, I have made known to thee this day, even to thee.

20 Have not I written to thee excellent things in counsels and knowledge,

21 That I might make thee know the certainty of the words of truth; that thou mightest answer the words of truth to them that send unto thee?

22 Rob not the poor, because he is poor: neither oppress the afflicted in the gate:

23 For the Lord will plead their cause, and spoil the soul of those that spoiled them.

24 Make no friendship with an angry man; and with a furious man thou shalt not go:

25 Lest thou learn his ways, and get a snare to thy soul.

26 Be not thou one of them that strike hands, or of them that are sureties for debts.

27 If thou hast nothing to pay, why should he take away thy bed from under thee?

28 Remove not the ancient landmark, which thy fathers have set.

29 Seest thou a man diligent in his business? he shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before mean men.

  1. 6 Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.

The best way we can Train a child is to set an example. To live what we preach. We can tell them what to do and how to act all day because ‘that’s what they’re supposed to do.’ but if we don’t show them that it is possible to live the way the bible wants us to, if our actions contradict our words than that is all we’re showing them is hypocrisy. Like myself and allot more youth, we don’t have children, but that doesn’t mean that there’s not small children and even other youth that look up to us. We should take that thought and act on it, take someone under our wing and help them in their walk with God, help to train them in the ways of the Lord so when temptation comes, when they get older and sin looks so appealing they won’t be numb to the Holy Spirit. They will have a fighting Chance against the enemy and ofcourse we all know WILL HAVE THE VICTORY!! Let’s start now to input the Word in their heart’s, they’re not to young.!!l

  2. 3 A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself: but the simple pass on, and are punished.

Look for trouble ahead and try to avoid it; don’t just stumble ahead blindly, hoping the path is clear.

  3. HALELUJAH!!! HALELUJAH!!! HALUJAH!!!
28 Remove not the ancient landmark, which thy fathers have set.
    YES LORD!!!
THE LANDMARKS THAT GOD HAS ALLOWED ME TO SET IN MY LIFE, MIGHT NOT BE THE SAME LANDMARKS AS OTHERS HAVE PLACED IN THEIR LIVES. HOWEVER, I AM CERTAIN THAT IF THE LANDMARKS PLACED IN MY LIFE ARE REMOVED, EVEN IF IT BEING ONE LAND MARK REMOVED (REBELLION ) OR SHIFTED ( COMPROMISE ) THEN I WILL KNOW THAT I SURELY AM NOT PLEASING MY GOD!!! LANDMARKS COME FROM AN INTIMATE RELATIONSHIP WITH JESUS!!! LANDMARKS ARE SET WITH A PURPOSE!!! LANDMARKS ARE NOT TO BE COMPROMISED!!! LANDMARKS ARE NEEDED FOR SPIRITUAL GROWTH!!! OBEDIENCE IS BETTER THAN SACRIFICE!!! THANK YOU JESUS!!! I LOVE YOU DADDY!!! HALELUJAH!!! FOR THERE IS NO E LIKE YOU!!! GRACIAS PADRE!!! =D

  4. I learned to be nice:

God says in this chptr to if a man likes to be angry or strife “stay low or quiet” and stay away from such people.
If they get mad at everything u do or say (in a honest way) to stay away.
That makes alot of sense because God doesnt like strife or anger.
Really, God is the only One to be allowed to be angry.
Thank you Jesus for showing me the Way to You.
    iwill always follow you, Jesus.
    You are a Smart God.

    PSALM 17:4

  5. PSALM 17:4

Concerning the works of men, by the word of thy lips I have kept me from the paths of the destroyer.

  6. 24 Do not make friends with a hot-tempered man, do not associate with one easily angered, 25 or you may learn his ways and get yourself ensnared NIV

24 Make no friendship with an angry man; and with a furious man thou shalt not go:KJV

25 Lest thou learn his ways, and get a snare to thy soul. KJV

Who are you hanging with? Who are you talking to? We become the company we keep. What kind of company do you keep around? We can pick up bad habits from someone that is hot tempered all the time. Angry people are always stirring up trouble. There is also other dangers of hanging with the wrong crowd. If you are not a lier then don’t be best friends with a lier. Why hang around with someone that goes againist what you believe. We cannot entertain wickedness and not find ourselves being drug into wickedness. Make sure you are hanging with the right people and praying for the ones that are a hinderance to you.

  7. 4 remaining faithful to God will bring these blessings at His appointed time. Gods people will be among those that inherit the earth Matt 5:5. Even the poor are considered rich in spiritual wealth and honor rev 2:9

7 in our society we silver in a world of consumption. Living above our means is the American way. The borrower is servant to the lender. Those who live above their means serve their creditors. Proverbs 21:17,21. The wise and prudent have the necessities of life but the foolish seek unnecessarily pleasures they can’t afford. Today many foolishly use easy credit that which often proves to be their undoing. God is pleased with a basic standard of living rather than go into debt and live beyond their means.

Thanks be to Christ for mercy and grace.

  8. WHAT’S IN A NAME?

1 A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favour rather than silver and gold.

We understand the value of a name that understand the deity of Christ JESUS. JESUS is the highest name, the only saving name, the most powerful name, the name demons fear and flee, the name that conquers and remits sin, the name that heals our body, the name grants PEACE to my mind, the name that covers any and every thing I do. JESUS represents the name of my loving FATHER in HEAVEN. The name of my GOD that robed himself in flesh to defeat sin that I would have opportunity to LIVE and not die. JESUS represents the name of my GOD who suffered, was humiliated, beaten, judged unjustly, bled and died for me.

The reality of LIFE is that we are defined and identified by our name. What does my name make people think of?

    “A good name”

    MSG
    1. A sterling reputation is better than striking it rich;
a gracious spirit is better than money in the bank.

My reputation precedes me and follows me everywhere go. I cannot separate myself from my reputation. Integrity, honesty, humility and servanthood are the keys to a good name.

What we can share in a good name with JESUS. (HOPE)

The name of JESUS gives HOPE for eternity and our name here on earth should give the same HOPE. Protect your future with honesty, sincerity and humility. This plan is much better than gaining riches through deceit, dishonesty and demands.

    iPraise
    iPray
    iWork
    iGive
    iReap

    NOW

  9. 8 He that soweth iniquity shall reap vanity: and the rod of his anger shall fail.

Be careful what you sow. You can’t plant apple seeds and expect oranges to grow. You can’t sow evil and expect to reap righteousness. What you put in is what you will get out of it. Blessings are not a product of sin, but a product of obedience.

  10. 28 Remove not the ancient landmark, which thy fathers have set.

The path of truth has been paved by much sweat, tears, fasting and prayer and today it seems very nonchalant to people. We must preserve the paths that our forefathers in the gospel prepared for us. We must restore the fear of the Lord into our lives, so that we don’t take lightly the matter of truth, righteous and living an overcoming life, free from sin. Everyday this must be our prayer. We cannot begin to remove the stones of our foundation, lest our foundation crumble and we have nothing to build or stand upon. God’s word declares He is the same yesterday, today and forever. His word changes not. What was established way back at the garden of Eden until now, must line up with the precepts and principles of His word. We didn’t die for truth – He did. We as individuals have no right to change anything that He established.

  11. Pure heart

God loves the pure-hearted and well-spoken; good leaders also delight in their friendship. (Proverbs 22:11 MSG)

Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God. (Matthew 5:8 KJV)

He who loves purity and the pure in heart and who is gracious in speech–because of the grace of his lips will he have the king for his friend. (Proverbs 22:11 AMP)

A clean and pure heart has so many benefits these are just few
    1. God loves those with a pure heart
    2. It will change the way you think and talk.
    3. They are blessed and will see God
    4. They will have a king as a friend

Who wouldn’t want a pure heart?

The bible states that Jesus was the ultimate sacrifice to cleanse us ( or make holy) of our sins.

For God’s will was for us to be made holy by the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ, once for all time. For by that one offering he forever made perfect those who are being made holy. (Hebrews 10:10, 14 NLT)

It’s through Calvery Jesus shedding his blood that we are made new and free from sin.

For we died and were buried with Christ by baptism. And just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glorious power of the Father, now we also may live new lives. Since we have been united with him in his death, we will also be raised to life as he was. We know that our old sinful selves were crucified with Christ so that sin might lose its power in our lives. We are no longer slaves to sin. (Romans 6:4-6 NLT)

This is why Jesus told Nicodmus you must be born again of water (baptism) and Spirit (Holy Ghost) (John 3:1-7)

Peter also stated the same thing in Acts. Peter replied, “Each of you must repent of your sins and turn to God, and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. Then you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. This promise is to you, and to your children, and even to the Gentiles —all who have been called by the Lord our God.” (Acts 2:38, 39 NLT)

Being baptized in Jesus’ Name and receiving the Holy Ghost is the way to a pure heart.

  12. This chapter illustrates fairness. Opportunities are available to all. If one will heed the Word of God, and listen to the man of God, one will be wiser and better prepared. One must strive to be ready, for all have opportunities; “The rich and poor meet together: the Lord is the maker of them all”. What a mighty God we serve! May the good Lord Bless you all in Jesus name, Amen

  13. 1 Choose a good reputation over great riches; being held in high esteem is better than silver or gold.

We currently live in time where it seems that everyone is only thinking about what is in it for themselves and not the importance of a “moral” good reputation. I have often been told that, I have the right not to care just because someone or a company has wronged, cheated or harmed me. But the Lord says “… you may know the truth and take an accurate report to those who sent you. Don’t rob the poor just because you can, or exploit the needy in court. For the Lord is their defender. He will ruin anyone who ruins them.” (Proverbs 22:21-23) It is important to act in a manner that would make the Lord proud, because two wrongs never make a right. And if we trust in the Lord what was taken fro us, will always be returned. For ” true humility and fear of the Lord lead to riches, honor, and long life.” (Proverbs 22:4)

  14. Verses 17-19 AMP “Listen (consent and submit) to the words of the wise, and apply your mind to my knowledge;

For it will be pleasant if you keep them in your mind [believing them]; your lips will be accustomed to [confessing] them.

So that your trust (belief, reliance, support, and confidence) may be in the Lord, I have made known these things to you today, even to you.”

If we listen, apply and keep to God’s word; our lips/our speech will be accustomed to confessing (witnessing) through our daily lives.

  15. 17 Bow down thine ear, and hear the words of the wise, and apply thine heart unto my knowledge.

18 For it is a pleasant thing if thou keep them within thee; they shall withal be fitted in thy lips.

19 That thy trust may be in the Lord, I have made known to thee this day, even to thee.

Verse 17 indicates ‘bowing the ear’ and hear the words of the wise, and to me this means ‘bow’- as to become humble. If we come to hear God’s word with the attitude of I already know it all, then we will not receive everything the word is speaking to us. However, if we come humbly with an open heart & mind and teachable spirit, God can then speak into our lives. We can never know it all and to continue to learn is compatible with striving for perfection which scripture instructs us to do.

  16. The power of self directing

6 Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.

Right after I got the Holy Ghost I felt a challenge in my spirit. I was only eight years old but I felt as though if I could make my will iron toward God it would help me the rest of my life. Instead of using stubbornness against him I could use it for him. I would develop the necessary foundation to take me through any test.

Unfortunately I chose not to do that. However today my inner child still wants to get out. Although I am no longer sitting under the daily direction from my parents I have a choice to make daily. To lead I must first lead my self.

    1 Timothy 3:2 ESV
Therefore an overseer must be above reproach, the husband of one wife, sober- minded, self- controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach,

Self control positions us to let God’s will take over.

  17. 13 The slothful man saith, There is a lion without, I shall be slain in the streets.

The slothful are creative, they can come up with any reason not to do something. When we are slothful in our daily lives it is evident that things don’t get done. So what does that say about being slothful in our spiritual lives? When we continuously find and make up reasons not to pray or fast or spend time with God then that slothfulness affects us more than we know. It will kill us spiritually, it will cause us to go into a sleep that is hard to wake up from. Let’s be sure not to be slothful when it comes to spending time with God.

  18. The power of influence

24 Make no friendship with an angry man; and with a furious man thou shalt not go:

25 Lest thou learn his ways, and get a snare to thy soul.

The message version says it like this.

    Proverbs 22:24-25
    Don’t hang out with angry people;
    don’t keep company with hotheads.
    Bad temper is contagious–
    don’t get infected.

Anger is like a cancer that spreads throughout the body. Our temper can quickly sour, and cause us to go awry. However many do not have issue with anger. It seems as though this principle of infection can be attributed to other things as well.

The Bible tells us that just lot was vexed by witnessing the lifestyle, the conversation of the wicked. (2 Peter 2:7)

We are what we eat. We become what we read, watch, listen to, and play. It is impossible to avoid. We are products of our environment. The great news is we choose our environment.

    Joshua 24:15
15 And if it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell:but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.

Our influences make us so we must choose wisely.

  19. Basic Training

Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart frim it.Proverbs 22:6

Long lectures and great wisdom are fortunately not necessary for this type of teaching. Children watch what we do and say and follow in our footsteps from a very young age. What they learn as children, they will remember all their lives.
Thank you God for your wisdom and guidance that helped me raise my son and now he is working in your kingdom for your glory Praise God !!!

  20. Ilove to eat the Word

10 Cast out the scorner, and contention shall go out; yea, strife and reproach shall cease.

11 He that loveth pureness of heart, for the grace of his lips the king shall be his friend.

    Cast him out!

Cast out a scorner, and three spirits follow him…

The scorner (mocker) brings 3 spirits with him, contention, strife, and repoach.

Soon the King will remove all misrepresentations and all the imitations and only the TRUE blood bought saints will remain.

If the three spirits follow you on a daily basis, then prepared to be removed.

  21. 3 A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself: but the simple pass on, and are punished.

A shrewd person sees danger and hides himself, but the naive keep right on going and suffer for it. -Proverbs 22:3

“I am sending you out like sheep surrounded by wolves, so be wise as serpents and innocent as doves. -Matthew 10:16

The counsel of The Lord stands sure. He will lead and guide us through all of our trouble.

  22. v9 He that hath a bountiful eye shall be blessed; for he giveth of his bread to the poor.

The LORD is faithful as promised and will not overlook the sacrifice of those who give to HIS cause. HE will honor and bless those who

  23. Seeking

    Proverbs 25:2
It is the glory of God to conceal a thing: but the honour of kings is to search out a matter.

Seeking after God and His ways goes beyond just actions, it’s about attitude. V17 says “apply thine heart unto my knowledge;” what is at work in the deep parts of us? What is the meditation of our hearts? God gives us opportunity to find more of Him but the question remains, will we seek Him?

    Deuteronomy 4:29
But if from thence thou shalt seek the Lord thy God, thou shalt find him, if thou seek him with all thy heart and with all thy soul.

    Jeremiah 29:12-14
12 Then shall ye call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you. 13 And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart. 14 And I will be found of you, saith the Lord:and I will turn away your captivity, and I will gather you from all the nations, and from all the places whither I have driven you, saith the Lord; and I will bring you again into the place whence I caused you to be carried away captive.

    Luke 18:7-8
7 And shall not God avenge his own elect, which cry day and night unto him, though he bear long with them? 8 I tell you that he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?

  24. The eyes of the Lord preserve knowledge, and he overthroweth the words of the transgressor. (Proverbs 22:12 KJV)
God overthrows those who put us down. We must hgod rebuke the stuff that bothers us ti yyave

  25. 4 By humility and the fear of the Lord are riches, and honour, and life.

29 Seest thou a man diligent in his business? he shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before mean men.

Several key things to obtain great things… It mentions first humility and the fear of the Lord. One must have a humble spirit to even acknowledge the Lord. God resisteth the proud. The proud think they have it all figured out, they are self sufficient, self-willed. They’ve learned it all, they know it all, they’ve gone through it all..they’ve got this. Whereas the humble always maintains a teachable spirit. They will take instruction, guidance, and correction. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom as it says in the first proverb. God who made all things has all wisdom. It will be the wisest thing to learn from the one who knows it all. You want to prosper and be blessed? You must also be diligent about your business. This chapter also talks against the slothful. Things are not just gonna come to you. You have to get up, work, wether it be material or spiritual and get them. God will do His part to bless, but will you riquire you to do your part and attain posses claim conquer the land/blessings. All are actions. You want succes in life and in the kingdom of God? Be humble having a teacheable attitude, fear the Lord, and be about your Father’s bussiness working diligently for the Kingdom. Remember seek ye first the Kingdim of God, then He promises to take care of us. It takes action

  26. 6 Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.

As a teacher ,I understand the importance of this verse. It is very true too. When I have been on outreach there have been people that will allow their children to come because they know about the Pentecostal Church. There is even a father that I got the opprotunity to meet a few weeks ago, that is a backsliden Pentecost, that will only let the Pentecostal Church take his children. As a teach I take responsiblity in what I teach my class. I am very thankful for the opprotunity that has been given me to teach this generation of children, this generation of the church body. This is the generation of the church NOW! Not of tomorrow. Tomorrow might never come, then what? When children are around they listen, when you think they are not listening , they are. There are many times that before class starts we talk about what the preacher preached on that last service. It takes a whole town to teach a child. What does the world have to offer? SIN !!!!! And the church just says, well I teach the children what I can. But do we really? Do we take the time to teach/ train a child in the way they should go? Do we take them by the hand and lead them in the prayer room? Do we show them how to praise? Do we teach them what it means to pray until we get an answer from God? I pray that the church itself would wake up and arise to teach this generation the Godly way of life, and not the world.

  27. To be a genuine and true example of God’s commandments is what God is looking for in our heart and souls. To allow him to teach us and correct us when we disobey him and accept it without any grudges. God blesses those that obey him, he is looking for those whe listen to him. Life is short and I want nothing more than to please you Lord. I seek you Lord.

  28. 6 Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.
…start teaching your children at home the way of The Lord, they will follow it and if they see family actually doing what the word says then it will defiantly stay with them and affect them in a good way…

17 Bow down thine ear, and hear the words of the wise, and apply thine heart unto my knowledge.
..We not only need to hear from the wise, but also take their word to heart and actually use it..

28 Remove not the ancient landmark, which thy fathers have set.
…we gain from what the people in the past did and we add on to make it more affective and better…continue with the works of The Lord

  29. A Good Reputation

In Solomon’s day, a good, reputation, like wisdom, is considered more valuable than any material thing. Modern society puts much value on a good name; but for Christians, who are to be salt and light (Mt 5:13-16), it remains crucial. Proverbs as a whole could be considered a primer for those who want to live in a way that inspires the respect and trust of those around them. While no imperfect human being can live without out every piece of advice that the wise writers have to offer, the instructuons are nevertheless priceless. Our credibility as Christians matter, Paul wrote many letters warning to pick credible “reputable” leaders to feed the flock, after all if we cannot walk like a Christian, how will we ever teach others to? Walk upright and no accusation can stick to you.

  30. Correction for connection

6 Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.

15 Foolishness is bound in the heart of a child; but the rod of correction shall drive it far from him.

Children know no sun but are brought into it. Parents have the full responsibility to teach a child in the way it should go. God chastenes those whom he loves so why wouldn’t a parent do te same? Through correction brings revelation, through revelation is understanding, through understanding brings forth connection- connection to rules/law which is the word. Connect your children to correction.
