Ecclesiastes 1

1 The words of the Preacher, the son of David, king in Jerusalem.

Vanity of vanities, saith the Preacher, vanity of vanities; all is vanity.

What profit hath a man of all his labour which he taketh under the sun?

One generation passeth away, and another generation cometh: but the earth abideth for ever.

The sun also ariseth, and the sun goeth down, and hasteth to his place where he arose.

The wind goeth toward the south, and turneth about unto the north; it whirleth about continually, and the wind returneth again according to his circuits.

All the rivers run into the sea; yet the sea is not full; unto the place from whence the rivers come, thither they return again.

All things are full of labour; man cannot utter it: the eye is not satisfied with seeing, nor the ear filled with hearing.

The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun.

10 Is there any thing whereof it may be said, See, this is new? it hath been already of old time, which was before us.

11 There is no remembrance of former things; neither shall there be any remembrance of things that are to come with those that shall come after.

12 I the Preacher was king over Israel in Jerusalem.

13 And I gave my heart to seek and search out by wisdom concerning all things that are done under heaven: this sore travail hath God given to the sons of man to be exercised therewith.

14 I have seen all the works that are done under the sun; and, behold, all is vanity and vexation of spirit.

15 That which is crooked cannot be made straight: and that which is wanting cannot be numbered.

16 I communed with mine own heart, saying, Lo, I am come to great estate, and have gotten more wisdom than all they that have been before me in Jerusalem: yea, my heart had great experience of wisdom and knowledge.

17 And I gave my heart to know wisdom, and to know madness and folly: I perceived that this also is vexation of spirit.

18 For in much wisdom is much grief: and he that increaseth knowledge increaseth sorrow.

  1. In this scripture, it is apparant that in gaining much wisdom or knowledge. There is an expensive price to be paid, in which caused a vexation of spirit or increased sorrows. Sometimes we become to wise or unteachable, sort of to big for our britches. But, Our Father always has away to get our attention and proove we still have more room to grow. He loves us even when we don’t deserve it. Sometimes we need to just keep it simple.

    “Kiss”…Keep it simple son…………

  2. What do people get for all their hard work under the sun? Generations come and generations go, but the earth never changes. (Ecclesiastes 1:3, 4 NLT)

    Routine….
All my hard work will never pay off if I all I’m doing is feeding the flesh! It’s all in vain, because we seek to gratify the fleshly desires!!
But it is simply a void, an emptiness, an unfulfilled life.
But every effort I put into feeding my spirit with the Word of God, in my praise and worship, in prayer, in building relationship with my savior, this is never in vain. It brings me joy, it strengthens me, it fulfills me, it’s LIFE!!!!!

  3. 9 The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun.

God is never caught by surprise. That problem you’re facing – someone has faced it before; God helped them and God will help you!

  4. 18 For in much wisdom is much grief: and he that increaseth knowledge increaseth sorrow.

Im sure it takes alot from us when God gives us wisdom/knowledge.
We know things that maybe the next person knows. Then we have to PRAY WITH EVERYTHING we have for that person.
I will grieve for the Kingdom of God’s sake, anyday.
    Thank you Jesus.
I’m not going to give up on this race we call salvation for the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. Jesus!

  5. V3-4 we can work all day and all night but at the end it will all pass away one genaration raises up and another passes away must seek God before it all.

  6. NOTHING NEW

9 The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun.

People spend time and resources only to end up back at the same conclusion, there is northing new. GOD already established everything, and everything can be traced back to HIM, the beginning. There is such a quest in humanity for something new. I am inspired more today that there is an answer to everything in the WORD of GOD.

We find instructions to find something NEW.

2Corinthians 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

    Get IN Christ!

    iPray
    iPraise
    iWork
    iGive
    iReap

  7. ILove to eat the Word

    What is a preacher?

1 The words of the Preacher, the son of David, king in Jerusalem.

    PREACHER
    06950
    קָהַל qahal
    Verb ‘kaw-hal’
    a primitive root
a primitive root; to convoke:–assemble (selves) (together), gather (selves) (together).
    to assemble, gather
    (Niphal) to assemble
    for religious reasons
    for political reasons
    (Hiphil) to summon an assembly
    for war, judgment
    for religious purposes

So, what is a preacher supposed to do? Gather the assembly and prepare them for war or spiritual battle!

That’s why it bothers our Preacher to see empty chairs. Souls are missing and he’s giving the battle cry.

  8. 1:17 NLT
So I set out to learn everything from wisdom to madness and folly, but learned
that pursuing all this is like chasing the wind.
    ——–
The word of GOD says that we ought walk by faith and not by sight……..
Trying to understand every single thing in life( concerning my own life) will make me go crazy, question after question.)
—- TODAY! In the name of JESUS I will walk by faith, I will not question GOD, and will enjoy and get a hold of the PEACE Jesus gave me.
Peace is mine, I will listen to GOD, for I need his direction daily, litle by litle I am getting there… I will not get frustrated for what I see, but I will get motivated for the WORD that GOD in his mercy has given to us through PASTOR AND ALL THE GREAT MEN’S OF GOD- always-.

    Thankful !!!!!

  9. This chapter illustrates outlook. Perception can determine one’s future; “O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out!” What a mighty God we serve! May the good Lord Bless you all in Jesus name, Amen

  10. This Unsatisfying World

Vanity of vanities, saith the Preacher, vanity of vanities; all is vanity. What profit hath a man of all his labour which he taketh under the sun? (Ecclesiastes 1:2, 3 KJV)

Only what we do for Christ will last. When die we won’t able to take anything with us. Everything we work so hard for here on earth will be passed to our loved ones or sold. The only thing we can take with us is souls we’ve won to Christ. #Impacting lives to save the world!

You’ve all been to the stadium and seen the athletes race. Everyone runs; one wins. Run to win. All good athletes train hard. They do it for a gold medal that tarnishes and fades. You’re after one that’s gold eternally. I don’t know about you, but I’m running hard for the finish line. I’m giving it everything I’ve got. No sloppy living for me! I’m staying alert and in top condition. I’m not going to get caught napping, telling everyone else all about it and then missing out myself. (1 Corinthians 9:24-27 MSG)

  11. HALELUJAH!!! HALELUJAH!!! HALELUJAH!!!
17 And I gave my heart to know wisdom, and to know madness and folly: I perceived that this also is vexation of spirit.
18 For in much wisdom is much grief: and he that increaseth knowledge increaseth sorrow.
IT IS PRIDE!!! AS TO SAY IN OUR OWN HUMAN NATURE WE WANT TO KNOW EVERYTHING!!! BUT WE LACK TO UNDERSTAND THE ONLY TRUE MEANING OF BOTH KNOWLEDGE AND WISDOM IS TO TRUST WHOLE HEARTEDLY IN JESUS!!! HE HAS EVERY ANSWER!!! HE KNOWS EVERYTHING!!! HE IS THE GREAT I AM!!! REV. 22:13 HE IS ALPHA AND OMEGA, THE BEGINNING AND THE END, THE FIRST AND THE LAST!!!
THERE IS NO NEED TO SEEK AFTER VANITY IF WE WOULD JUST SEEK YE FIRST THE KINGDOM OF GOD ANNNNND HIS RIGHTEOUSNESS!!! HA!!! YES!!! HA!!! YES!!! HALELUJAH!!! THANK YOU JESUS!!! HE IS ALL I NEED!!! JESUS!!! I NEED MORE OF YOU DADDY!!!

  12. 16 I communed with mine own heart, saying, Lo, I am come to great estate, and have gotten more wisdom than all they that have been before me in Jerusalem: yea, my heart had great experience of wisdom and knowledge.
17 And I gave my heart to know wisdom, and to know madness and folly: I perceived that this also is vexation of spirit.
18 For in much wisdom is much grief: and he that increaseth knowledge increaseth sorrow.

    Blissfully Ignorant

The word tells us that sin is enjoyable for a season. The world says ignorance is bliss. Here we see that the word is telling us that the more we know, the more we will be burdened. Hosea tells us that God said that His people parish for lack of knowledge. Proverbs is about wisdom and instruction. We are continually encouraged in the word to com=ntinue to grow in wisdom and understanding, so why are we told that it will cause more sorrow. Don’t Jesus want us to be happy? YES He does. That’s why we haveto grow in wisdom and understanding, although it will cause more grief and sorrow, we still must strive to never quit learning.

With all the wisdom and knowledge and understanding that Jesus had, I can see the heaviness of heart that He might have had, because He knew and understood that no matter what He did, not all man would be saved. The more we know and understand, we too will grow with a burden for the lost. There are people dieing and going to Hell, that I could have do0ne something to reach. I could have said something different. I could have prayed differently. I could have fasted more.

People are people, and they will do what they are going to do, and although i might not understand, it would be foolish of me to think that I am so important that God is relying on me to save this world. He’s not! He only desires too use us to reach souls, and to teach them of what He is done for us, and how great He truly is.

The more we know the more we will become burdened, for the lost. Rather than leaving someone to deal with their own madness and foolishness, why don’t we be church, and be bold, and be avaiable , and help them too to understand the love that Jesus has for us, and what we must do to be saved…

  13. Vs. 3, “What profit hath a man of all his labour which he taketh under the sun?” (KJV)

Vs.3, “What’s there to show for a lifetime of work, a lifetime of working your fingers to the bone?” (MSG)

This scripture made me think of the scripture found in Mark 8:36, “For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?”

Man works hard to have a car, a home, a family, and a little pleasure, but in the end, all of this is going to vanish away. Only what we do for the Kindom of God will matter for this is eternal.

  14. 17 And I gave my heart to know wisdom, and to know madness and folly: I perceived that this also is vexation of spirit.

18 For in much wisdom is much grief: and he that increaseth knowledge increaseth sorrow.

This just gave me a thought…imagine God that knows all things.
    Psalms 139:2
Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising,
thou understandest my thought afar off. He knows the real motives of our hearts. In Jeremiah 17 tells us that the heart is deceitful, who can know it? The Lord does and he tries the hearts and mind. So if you really think about it..how many times has the Lord just known when we’re about to grieve Him and yet he chooses to love us. Let’s put it this way; you recently found out some things that upset you but you still love therefore you let it go. You pray, have faith and let go.
That is just the thought that came to me when I read those last verses. Our maturity level will dictate how we act, when we acquire knowledge

  15. 18 The greater my wisdom, the greater my grief.
To increase knowledge only increases sorrow.

In the Problem of Pain, C,S Lewis writes: ” “We can ignore even pleasure. But pain insists upon being attended to. God whispers to us in our pleasures, speaks in our conscience, but shouts in our pains: it is his megaphone to rouse a deaf world.”

    James 1: 2-4

    Faith and Endurance

2 Dear brothers and sisters,[a] when troubles come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. 3 For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. 4 So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing.

Even when we call out to God and ask him to remove the storm from our life, he will at times let the storm continue. Not because he doesn’t love us but because somethings must happen for better things miracles to occur.

Bible Example: John 11: 1-40 The Raising of Lazarus

  16. The same ol’ , same old.

7 All the rivers run into the sea; yet the sea is not full; unto the place from whence the rivers come, thither they return again. 8 All things are full of labour; man cannot utter it: the eye is not satisfied with seeing, nor the ear filled with hearing. 9 The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun.

Wow! What a great testiment to the awesome power of God. In vs. 7, I had never thought of this statement. THe rivers are continuious. Never stopping and yet the sea is never full. Now in school they teach that it is because of the water cycle. And though this may be true, who then made that to be? Was it man, or was it the God who created all things?
Now in vs. 8 this is very true. Everything takes labour. Even this blog, I am typing in words that use my fingers, and mind in sync to be able to do this task. All things take work. Even when we don’t think we are working and just resting; our bodies continue to move. The heart beats, the lungs get filled with air, the blood is motion, and many other vital things are happening to just stay alive. All things take labour to do.
In vs.9 it states that there is nothing new under the sun. That means that every thought is not new, every sin has already been commited, and every sin has been forgiven. This is hope to those that are lost and are struggling with a sin in their lives. Thank you Jesus that you died on the cross so that we may now have life everlasting. Also another thought on this, and that is. The reason why there is nothing new under the sun is because God created the sun therefore God is the sun, and as it was said yesterday. He is the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end!

  17. 7 All the rivers run into the sea; yet the sea is not full; unto the place from whence the rivers come, thither they return again.

Wow God is so awesome, he commands all things under the sun, he created everything and it would drive us mad to try and comprehend. Thank you Jesus because I know you have everything under control.

  18. Verse 15 MSG “Life’s a corkscrew that can’t be straightened, A minus that won’t add up.”

Same verse NLT “What is wrong cannot be made right. What is missing cannot be recovered.”

Same verse AMP “What is crooked cannot be made straight, and what is defective and lacking cannot be counted.”

There are some things in this life that cannot be explained and are not for us to question. We cannot continue to try and try to make something work that is NOT coming from the Lord. If we seek and do His will, our lives will begin to make sense. Our talents and purpose will begin to be revealed and make a difference.

  19. The price of knowledge

18 For in much wisdom is much grief: and he that increaseth knowledge increaseth sorrow.

They say ignorance is bliss. This is true of someone until they pass away. However life is to be unraveled. God’s word reveals amazing treasures, and wondrous blessings. It also shows the error of man, the punishment of sin, and the consequence for the wicked.

Sorrow will fill our heart as we realize the destiny of unsaved souls around us. The more we fellowship in the presence of God his heart will continue to beat louder for the lost.

Sorrow is necessary. We must travail, wail, and become burdened.

As Paul said “and such were some of you”

Though Solomon cries all is vanity there is one action we can take on earth that will prove to be eternally significant. We must win souls!

  20. Meaningless

Why would a book in the Bible -the Book by the Creator of life- declare repeatedly that life is “meaningless”? As we explore Ecclesiastes, we will see the word “meaningless” repeated about 30 times. The word speaks of things being empty, transitory, and unsatisfying. The writer refers to one thing after another as having no meaning. How does this depressing view of things fit in with the rest of Scripture? We are called to praise, thanksgiving and joy (Ps 100). Paul says in 1Tim 6:17 that God richly supplies us with “everything for our enjoyment.” Here in Ecclesiastes the mood is very different. To solve the puzzle of Solomon’s exploration past the view of “meaningless”, we can look at another phrase: “under the sun” mentioned (Ecc 1:3,9,14; 2:11,17,18.19,20,22; 3:16; 4:1,3,7,15; 9:3,6,9,11,13; 10:5). The Teacher is on a quest to understand what makes life worth living. Its refreshing to know the anointed king Solomon is human too, he may have a blessing from God with knowledge and wisdom, but he still struggles with the meaning of life. This journey displays the meaningless journey taken through “worldly observation”, he says “denied himself nothing his eyes desired” (Ecc 2:10). Instead of looking for answers “under the sun” he will ultimately find he had to look higher to God for the answer to the meaning of life, because life without Him is “Meaningless”!

  21. V18. The closer we get to God the more we are like him. The more we are like him the more we suffer and grieve. The closer we are to God the more sorrow we feel for those who are lost in sin. Bc we share the sorrow of our God for the lost.

    Love, pray, fast, obey

  22. 3 What profit hath a man of all his labour which he taketh under the sun?

4 One generation passeth away, and another generation cometh: but the earth abideth for ever.

For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? -Mark 8:36

Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul? -Mark 8:37

Success in this life is nothing compared to what we will gain when Jesus comes back for his Church.

  23. Teamwork

8 All things are full of labour; man cannot utter it: the eye is not satisfied with seeing, nor the ear filled with hearing.

The first time scripture records that God said something what not good was when Adam was alone. He gave to him Eve, who was his “helpmeet.” God has a special purpose for teamwork and as we go forward to the new building and the other promises God has for us, we as a church must operate in that true unity to accomplish what lies ahead.

The children of Israel wandered in the desert until those who divided from God’s plan were removed. When unity and agreement finally prevailed, they stepped into the Promised Land. God has great things in store, but our labor must come in unity, in step with God’s plan:

    Acts 1:4-5
4 And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me. 5 For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.

    Acts 2:1-2
1 And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. 2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.

Our *suddenly* is coming! It’s Due Season!

  24. 18 For in much wisdom is much grief: and he that increaseth knowledge increaseth sorrow.

I must decrease as God increases in me. I allow God complete access to my heart, mind and soul that he may increase. God gives us all the tools we need to succeed but will take much, wisdom, knowledge and understanding to apply it. I give myself completely to God. I will protect my heart and soul from the world. Grief and sorrow is exactly what the wicked wants. I praise your sweet name Jesus. Through God all things are possible,

  25. Vs 16 Even wise men have to look within themselves to see how they are. How much more should we look within to make sure we have plenty of room for Jesus. We are his temple.

  26. v4 One generation passeth away, and another generation cometh: but the earth abideth foe ever.
With JESUS living in our lives we are never meaningless .

For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.
    Jeremiah 29:11

    iPray
    iPraise
    iGive
    Now

  27. 9 The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun.

There is also nothing new that satan can pull on us. He only has the same old tricks to use!

Also, our lives are but a vapor here on earth. They dade lije the grass when summer ends but what we do for God’s kingdom will affect souls eternally.

  28. 9 The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun.

There may not be nothing new under the sun, but we don’t have to allow ourselves to fall in a routine where we don’t enjoy life. God has blessed us tremendously and our heart, face and attitude should express our thanks for those blessings. Life to a Holy Ghost filled child of God should never be dull or boring.

  29. 4 One generation passeth away, and another generation cometh: but the earth abideth for ever.

As one generation leaves another one is soon to follow….I don’t wanna be part of a generation that falls…I want us to be a fighting generations with faith and that eats, lives and shows the word of God and His ways and the extraordinary things He has done.

  30. So You Want to Know It All
For in much wisdom is much grief: and he that increaseth knowledge increaseth sorrow. (Ecclesiastes 1:18 KJV)

Many times in this world people say something like, “if I only knew…” I have heard it said that hind sight is 20/20. I have also heard, “If you want to know something go ask an 18-20 year old. They know it all.” According to the Bible knowledge is not power, but sadness.

A wise king once said to cut a baby I half instead of fighting over the rightful mother. Wow, could you imagine having to tell two mothers that you were just going to cut their baby in half and let them each get a piece. It sounds like a pizza or a pie, not a child. That would be soo grievous. Especially if the mom(s) agree.

When we ask for knowledge from God he doesn’t just grant you knowledge like a genie. You have to sink in a study. You have to fight for the truth. Then once you receive knowledge you become grieved because the higher standard that has been placed on you. You might even get a rebuke.

But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; (1 Corinthians 1:27 KJV)

We don’t know it all, and we shouldn’t!

  31. 4 One generation passeth away, and another generation cometh: but the earth abideth for ever. 5 The sun also ariseth, and the sun goeth down, and hasteth to his place where he arose.

  32. Testimony

18 For in much wisdom is much grief: and he that increaseth knowledge increaseth sorrow.

To have a great testimony you’ll have to go through some things. You’ll lose loved ones, gain scars and cry countless evenings for things that make no sense. Through the pain comes wisdom and that wisdom is your strength to overcome the next battle. With Christ all things are possible. We can’t lose sight that in the end we win!
