Ecclesiastes 10

1 Dead flies cause the ointment of the apothecary to send forth a stinking savour: so doth a little folly him that is in reputation for wisdom and honour.

A wise man’s heart is at his right hand; but a fool’s heart at his left.

Yea also, when he that is a fool walketh by the way, his wisdom faileth him, and he saith to every one that he is a fool.

If the spirit of the ruler rise up against thee, leave not thy place; for yielding pacifieth great offences.

There is an evil which I have seen under the sun, as an error which proceedeth from the ruler:

Folly is set in great dignity, and the rich sit in low place.

I have seen servants upon horses, and princes walking as servants upon the earth.

He that diggeth a pit shall fall into it; and whoso breaketh an hedge, a serpent shall bite him.

Whoso removeth stones shall be hurt therewith; and he that cleaveth wood shall be endangered thereby.

10 If the iron be blunt, and he do not whet the edge, then must he put to more strength: but wisdom is profitable to direct.

11 Surely the serpent will bite without enchantment; and a babbler is no better.

12 The words of a wise man’s mouth are gracious; but the lips of a fool will swallow up himself.

13 The beginning of the words of his mouth is foolishness: and the end of his talk is mischievous madness.

14 A fool also is full of words: a man cannot tell what shall be; and what shall be after him, who can tell him?

15 The labour of the foolish wearieth every one of them, because he knoweth not how to go to the city.

16 Woe to thee, O land, when thy king is a child, and thy princes eat in the morning!

17 Blessed art thou, O land, when thy king is the son of nobles, and thy princes eat in due season, for strength, and not for drunkenness!

18 By much slothfulness the building decayeth; and through idleness of the hands the house droppeth through.

19 A feast is made for laughter, and wine maketh merry: but money answereth all things.

20 Curse not the king, no not in thy thought; and curse not the rich in thy bedchamber: for a bird of the air shall carry the voice, and that which hath wings shall tell the matter.

  1. 20 Curse not the king, no not in thy thought; and curse not the rich in thy bedchamber; for a bird of the air shall carry the voice, and that which hath wings shall tell the matter.

    Uh .oh…speggettio!!!

    Gossiping is no bueno.(no good).
This scripture is real clear, when I gossip you are not only hurting them but myself too.
Because why? God said that that person will find out. The bedchamber is the most secret place a person has. And even there the gossip will get out and travel so I WONT GOSSIP. if I have I will repent right away to the Lord, first: then go to that person and let him/her know how I feel or what I said. Work it out with that person.
It hurts its ugly and damaging to one’s life. God made that person in His Image. So dont do damage to God and the little bird will be “squashed” in JESUS NAME.

LOVE YOU JESUS AND ALL PEOPLE YOU CREATED.

  2. ILove to eat the Word!

    “Please Be Quiet”

If your boss is angry at you, don’t quit! A quiet spirit can overcome even great mistakes. (Ecclesiastes 10:4 NLT)

The “quiet” spirit is a rare attribute in today’s culture.

I’ve heard it said “I’m gonna give them a peice of my mind” or ” I’m not gonna let them walk all over me”.

***MEN, I HAVE A SCRIPTURE FOR US***

A fool uttereth all his mind: but a wise man keepeth it in till afterwards. If a ruler hearken to lies, all his servants are wicked. (Proverbs 29:11, 12 KJV) A [self-confident] fool utters all his anger, but a wise man holds it back and stills it. (Proverbs 29:11 AMP)

THE MORE WE LEARN TO BE “QUIET”… THE MORE VALUABLE WE WILL BECOME IN THE KINGDOM OF GOD.

*** LADIES I HAVE A SCRIPTURE FOR YOU***

You should clothe yourselves instead with the beauty that comes from within, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is so precious to God. This is how the holy women of old made themselves beautiful. They trusted God and accepted the authority of their husbands. (1 Peter 3:4, 5 NLT)

What makes you more “valuable” in the sight of God? The King James Version says it like this: “a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price. (1 Peter 3:4 KJV)”

Let us humble ourselves and learn to “be quiet.”

  3. 12 The words of a wise man’s mouth are gracious; but the lips of a fool will swallow up himself.

13 The beginning of the words of his mouth is foolishness: and the end of his talk is mischievous madness.

We have to choose our words wisely; by our words people decide whether they see us as wise or a fool.

  4. iWork

18 By much slothfulness the building decayeth; and through idleness of the hands the house droppeth through.

Slothfulness – a: disinclination to action or labor : indolence
    b: spiritual apathy and inactivity

Indolence – inclination to laziness : sloth

Maintanance is a very important process in the life of any life, equipment or building. Proper maintenance prevents decay. Laziness and procrastination eventually end in ruin.

Consider this Proverb in application to our lives.

1Corinthians 6:19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?

Slothfulness in Prayer, Bible Study, Worship, Giving or Evangelism will cause our Spiritual House to decay and fall in.

Eternity is WELL WORTH WORKING for.

Philippians 2:12 Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.

Lets purpose in our hearts today that we are going to WORK for ETERNITY and do some work around our HOUSE. Praying, Reading, Meditating, Giving, Reaching.

  5. What are you building your house on?

Laziness leads to a sagging roof; idleness leads to a leaky house. (Ecclesiastes 10:18 NLT)
No matter what you’re doing in life, it’s simple to understand that being lazy will not get you anywhere.
Either in the physical realm or the most important, the spiritual.
As I read this passage the word ‘ministry’ yelled out.
Being part of a ministry is going to take work!
You can’t expect for someone else to work your ministry, while you sit back and relax you’ll never see your ministry work in Gods kingdom. It’ll never grow, flourish,or blossom to what The Lord has intended for it to become.
The same goes for your spirit. You must plant seeds of life within yourself.
You cannot go far with The Lord if all you do is repent, be baptized in Jesus name, and be filled with the Holy Ghost. This is just the beginning of your walk with Christ. The rest is up to you. You need to get up and pray ( no one can do that for you), you must pick up the bible and read it ( no one is going to feed you). You must fast on your own ( believe me no one is going to want to fast for you ).
Don’t expect to grow while you’re sitting on the couch doing nothing! Get up and be active. Otherwise you’re dying, you will no longer exist. Your house has fallen apart, the cares of this world were more important to you than anything else.
And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say? Whosoever cometh to me, and heareth my sayings, and doeth them, I will shew you to whom he is like: He is like a man which built an house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock. But he that heareth, and doeth not, is like a man that without a foundation built an house upon the earth; against which the stream did beat vehemently, and immediately it fell; and the ruin of that house was great. (Luke 6:46-49 KJV)

  6. The ANSWER

19 A feast is made for laughter, and wine maketh merry: but money answereth all things.

    M-O-N-E-Y

How often do we hear or speak the phrase; “if I had the money”. We are wise to not confuse these 2 verses.

1Timothy 6:10 For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

Some people LOVE the answer more than the PROVIDER (Jesus).

Money is the answer! However it can never replace the provider (JESUS).

JESUS is the answer to ETERNITY, while money is the answer to the temporal.

  7. 4 If the spirit of the ruler rise up against thee, leave not thy place; for yielding pacifieth great offences.

This must be our posture for correction. Yielding will not only allow the correction to do it’s work in our lives, it will also strengthen us and make us better christians, and it will also close the door for offenses and bitterness to take root.

  8. 10:12 The words of a wise man’s mouth are gracious:but the lips of a fool will swallow up himself.
    —–
Prov.18:7 NLT The mouth of fools
    Are their ruin;
    They trap themselves
    With their lips.
    ——
How delightful is to be in a conversation
With somebody with knowledge, you just enjoy it and want to learn from it….
-But a fool,(it’s sad) you get to the point to where you’re just standing there, you just let them (talk, talk, talk,) you already know the same words over and over again
    ( foolish,foolish,foolish….)
Should we ignore them? Maybe, but why not have compassion and mercy and pray for them, cause the word says that they are their own ruin, their lives are going down because of their big mouth and ignorance.and then others pay the consequences of their actions.
I pray for foolish men, I pray for GOD to open their eyes( for the love of his name)to have mercy on them just like he did to us.
After all: Your will be done, O LORD !

  9. Sword Making

10 If the iron be blunt, and he do not whet the edge, then must he put to more strength: but wisdom is profitable to direct.

When a sword is started it is a block of iron ore. The swordsmith will then begin a long and time consuming task. He begins with the iron itself, by taking it and putting it in the fire to make it soft enough to fold it and add minerals to it. This makes the iron strong and durable, with the balance of flexiblity. Then he will take the block and start to form it into a long piece of metal. Then he will start the process of molding it into the final shape and size. Then he will put an edge to it. After all this is done he will put it in a water trough. The sword then becomes very brittle, but by putting it in the fire and doing this process several times , the sword becomes stronger and stronger until he is pleased.

I said all that to say, that sometimes when we go through the same thing over and over. It might just be that God is putting you through the fire to make you just that more stronger so when the time arises to be tried. YOU WILL MAKE IT.

  10. This chapter illustrates awareness. Knowledge of the facts is profitable; “If the iron be blunt, and he do not whet the edge, then must he put to more strength: but wisdom is profitable to direct”. What a mighty God we serve! May the good Lord Bless you all in Jesus name, Amen

  11. Verses 2-3 NLT “A wise person chooses the right road; a fool takes the wrong one. You can identify fools just by the way they walk down the street!”

    What’s your walk look like?

Same verses MSG “Wise thinking leads to right living; Stupid thinking leads to wrong living. Fools on the road have no sense of direction.
The way they walk tells the story: “There goes the fool again!”

    Psalm 25:4-5 CEV:
    “Show me your paths
    and teach me to follow;
    guide me by your truth
    and instruct me.
    You keep me safe,
    and I always trust you.

    verses 8-9 same Psalm:
    “You are honest and merciful,
    and you teach sinners
    how to follow your path.
    You lead humble people
    to do what is right
and to stay on your path.

    verse 12 same Psalm:
“You will show the right path
    to all who worship you.”

  12. 10 As dead flies cause even a bottle of perfume to stink,
so a little foolishness spoils great wisdom and honor. (NLT)

Don’t let one foolish decision ruin your good reputation, because it is harder to repair then one might think.

  13. Words

Curse not the king, no not in thy thought; and curse not the rich in thy bedchamber: for a bird of the air shall carry the voice, and that which hath wings shall tell the matter. (Ecclesiastes 10:20 KJV)

We’re reminded again how important our words are. Even words said in secret we will give an answer to why we make those statements one day.

O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh. A good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things: and an evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth evil things. But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment. For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned. (Matthew 12:34-37 KJV)

    Words
    Bryan Pound

    Verse 2
Words can be merciful or unkind
True or full of lies, the choice is yours
Make this world a better place
For words can encourage or bring low
    Advise or fool the soul
We’re all responsible for what we say

    Chorus
So don’t tear your brother down
    Or make your sister frown
    We’re all in God’s family
    Speak the words of life
Speak the words of life into their soul

  14. Stay Sharp

10 If the iron be blunt, and he do not whet the edge, then must he put to more strength: but wisdom is profitable to direct.

They say the moment we stop learning in the day we start to die.

Knowledge is all around us. We have the ability to access information more than anyone in history.

We must allow the word, and our church family to help us keep the edge.

Like the saying goes “work smarter not harder”

    Proverbs 27:17
    17 Iron sharpeneth iron;
so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.

  15. 3 Yea also, when he that is a fool walketh by the way, his wisdom faileth him, ared he saith to every one that he is a fool.

It’s not hard to spot a fool, they give themselves away in evening they do. We need to watch ourselfs and our friends closely, let’s not tolerate being in the company of fools but surround ourselfs with wise men instead. What good comes out of hanging with fools?

  16. 1 Dead flies cause the ointment of the apothecary to send forth a stinking savour: so doth a little folly him that is in reputation for wisdom and honour.

    Something Stinks

As a child growing up in the country, and working on a horse farm, I was able to expierence the luxury of having many fly traps, and having to empty them from time to time. Most of the time I wanted to just trash them, but since I wasn’t the one buying them, I didn’t get that option. Sometimes during the summer the smell would almost be overpowering in just a matter of a couple days. Dead flies STINK!

Unfortunately when a wise person acts foolishly, Their reputation, their integrety becomes tarnished and questionable at best. Paul emplores us “to abstain from the very apperance of evil.” In fact we are told to “flee from youthful lusts. ” We are also told to not allow our “good to be evil spoke of.”

many times throughout the Word, we arre encouraged to make sound decisions. As the church, we have to make sound decisions, or we will be leading others into a trap, and straight to life of sin. We must think things through, and prayerfully consider what God might be doing and where is might be trying to lead us.

  17. v19″ But money answereth all things.”

How many times has GOD spoken to POFW that HE wants to bless our finances ?
    Can GOD trust us?

GOD wants me ( us ) to hear and be obedient.
So when HE speaks an amount to give we must respond quickly.
The LORD will not equal our giving, but HE will exceed it!

To GOD be all the glory…. I was in need of deliverance and asked Bro. Talent to pray for me.
Next service Pastor picked up a love offering for Evangelist Randall, and the LORD said ,
” give that 20.00 you have and I will deliver you .i basically ran and put it in the offering basket thanking GOD for my deliverance .
What a deal !!! The LORD will not equal our giving, but HE will exceed it!!!
When we are obedient to GOD and depend on HIM. HE will obligate HIMSELF to take care of all our needs.

  18. People can get trapped into thinking money can meet all their needs. We live in a materialistic society where many people serve money. Just as the thrill of wine is only temporary, the soothing effect of the last purchase soon wears off and we have to buy more, or they spend all their lives storing it only to die and leave it behind. Scripture recognizes that money is necessary for survival, but it warns against the love of money. Money is dangerous because it deceives us into thinking that wealth is the easiest way to get everything we want. The love of money is sinful because we trust money rather than God to solve our problems. Those who pursue its empty promises will one day discover that they have nothing because they are spiritually bankrupt.

  19. 10-18
Your accomplishments wont make life meaningful. If your work hard shiingling your room at least your bed want be wet at night

  20. the word of God if is beautiful it is like a flower of good fragrance full of knowledge to my life it showed, me if i murmur of the rich or powerful people it is the same as being jealous; Really No Good.

  21. Don’t be a fool study to be wise this chapter talks about the fool and how the just goes and what ever happens happens and what ever I say I say think before speaking.

Dead flies make a perfumer’s oil stink, so a little foolishness is weightier than wisdom and honor.

It doesn’t take a lot of foolishness to outweigh wisdom.

The Hebrew words for WEIGHTIER and HONOR are words that were used in social settings for a person’s value and esteem as set by others.

Here the loud words of the fool carry the weight while the quiet words of the wise are ignored.

  22. 18 By much slothfulness the building decayeth; and through idleness of the hands the house droppeth through.

Building a house takes effort, time, and resources. Thoughts and planning go into it from the groundwork up. It takes work. But the work doesn’t just stop once the structure is complete. Maintaining the house then becomes the chore. A homeowner must fix and update things in and parts of the house as necessary. Wisdom would even tell us to do some preventative maintenance, taking care of things before they happen. But if a homeowner neglects the duties of maintaining the house then in time the house will crumble. This is evident in many places around many towns, and how true it is even in the spiritual.

    1 Corinthians 6:19
19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?

God created us, we are living in temples of Gods Spirit! We are in charge of maintaining these houses. Yes that means physically but even more so spiritually. If we neglect prayer, reading Gods word, cleaning up any clutter ( bitterness, envy, strife, etc.) then in time the clutter will build up, carnality will move in, and the spiritual house we had will be in shambles.

    Matthew 12:43-45
    — When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest, and findeth none. Then he saith, I will return into my house from whence I came out; and when he is come, he findeth it empty, swept, and garnished. Then goeth he, and taketh with himself seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter in and dwell there:and the last state of that man is worse than the first. Even so shall it be also unto this wicked generation.

Once we are filled with the Holy Ghost God cleans our house and moves in, but just like these verses say if we don’t maintain the house and fill it with good godly things the world will move back in. Maintenance is work! iWork, ipray, igive, ireap.

  23. 4 If the spirit of the ruler rise up against thee, leave not thy place; for yielding pacifieth great offences.

It’s all about self control and accepting the consequences after you make the wrong choices.

The Lord teaches us to be like him, to honor him and not please the flesh.
Lord I want to be like you. I want to shine for you.

  24. If the anger of the ruler flares up against you, do not resign from your position, for a calm response can undo great offenses. -Ecclesiastes 10:4

  25. 19 A feast is made for laughter, and wine maketh merry: but money answereth all things.
This verse means alot because often we see money as evil or something that should not be desired; however its the love of money thats the ROOT to all evil not money itself. If we use our money wisely and are good stewards with it God will bless it and multiply it. I say lets use our money for the kingdom!!

  26. 18 By much slothfulness the building decayeth; and through idleness of the hands the house droppeth through.

Discipline keeps one in shape. Good health and condition cone with hard work and discipline. We all love to enjoy the houses with beautiful gardens but all that requires hard work. It requires daily maintenance. Watering, plucking weeds out, pruning…time invested in it to see the beauty of the end result. God will produce the work and the beauty but we must doo our part to keep the house and garden clean. Our bodies are the house/ temple of the Holy Spirit. We keep the temple by pruning and cutting off carnality through fasting and praying, we water with the word of God, we invest time meditating upon His words, precepts, commands, ways getting to know Him…and God is the one that will produce the growth and make your temples beautiful. He will cause His face to shine upon us.

  27. Difference or Progress?

Wise thinking leads to right living; Stupid thinking leads to wrong living. (Ecclesiastes 10:2 MSG)

We follow our vision, and our vision is a product of what’s going through our minds. The issue with following a vision is that when change happens, some people assume a difference is progress. Before we try to discern our fruit, we should inspect the root; are we walking according to wise or foolish thinking?

For the sinful nature is always hostile to God. It never did obey God’s laws, and it never will. (Romans 8:7 NLT)

Our natural carnal state walks in foolishness. No matter how grand it may seem, a vision of the flesh can garner a  difference but not true progress.

But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light. But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness! No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon. Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment? (Matthew 6:20-25 KJV)

We cannot afford to get caught up in carnal things such that it edges God out. The carnal mind will deceive us into a level of compromise that says Christian disciplines are optional and it doesn’t really matter anyhow what we’ve let go, there are more important things at stake. Want true progress?

But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. (Matthew 6:33 KJV)

  28. 8 He that diggeth a pit shall fall into it; and whoso breaketh an hedge, a serpent shall bite him.

Well, this scripture is pretty simple and straight to the point. If you dig a hole, you will be the one to fall into it. Don’t go around digging pits and trying to trap others, because in the end, you will be the looking up from the bottom of it.

  29. HALELUJAH!!! HALELUJAH!!! HALELUJAH!!!
1 Dead flies cause the ointment of the apothecary to send forth a stinking savour: so doth a little folly him that is in reputation for wisdom and honour
DEAD!!! OH MY WHEN I WAS DEAD!!! SANTO!!! SANTO!!! SANTO!!! YES I WAS WALKING DEAD!!! EVERYTHING I DID EVEN THE “GOOD” WAS BAD AND IT SMELT BAD TOO!!! BUT THANKS BE TO MY DADDY, THAT HE GAVE ME LIFE AND IN ABUNDANCE!!! NOW I STRIVE SO THAT MY LIFE CAN BE A SWEET SWEET SMELL BEFORE MY DADDY’S PRESENCE!!! WHO WANTS TO SMELL SOMETHING NASTY AND HORRIBLE!?! NOT I !!! WHY GIVE MY DADDY, THE KING OF KINGS, THE GREAT I AM, JESUS MY FIRST LOVE A STINKY SACRIFICE!?! WHEN HE IS WORTHY OF THE BEST!!! I LOVE YOU DADDY!!! HALELUJAH!!! HALELUJAH!!! HALELUJAH!!! THANK YOU DADDY!!!

  30. In this scripture is another warning of the conduct of our speach. There is a destintion between wisdom and foolish conduct. It is to our best advantage to make the right choice.

    Be blessed……

  31. V 18
18 By much slothfulness the building decayeth; and through idleness of the hands the house droppeth through.

Being lazy creates death. Work and be profitable. Work with all of your heart with whatever you do as if your we’re doing it for The Lord.

  32. If your gonna dig a grave for someone, you better dig one for yourself too.

8 He that diggeth a pit shall fall into it; and whoso breaketh an hedge, a serpent shall bite him.
9 Whoso removeth stones shall be hurt therewith; and he that cleaveth wood shall be endangered thereby.

Anyone would be foolish to believe that if they sin in secret that they will get away with it, though they may get away with it legally, they may never get away with it spiritually. That is until they repent. Haman set a righteous man up for failure, but God turned events through Esthers petition, thus causing him to be killed by that same plan for Mordecai. Esther 7:9 “A pole reaching to a height of fifty cubitsb stands by Haman’s house. He had it set up for Mordecai, who spoke up to help the king.” The king said, “Impale him on it!” 10So they impaled Haman on the pole he had set up for Mordecai. Then the king’s fury subsided.” Now a similar story occured with king David in 2 Sa 12: 12-18, for David set up Bathsheba’s husband to die in the front lines of battle, God had Nathan confront him about it, God punished him, but also “David pleaded with God for the child. He fasted and spent the nights lying in sackclothb on the ground” God may have taken away his first son with Bathsheba in judgment for his secret sin, but God saw David’s sincerity and repentance which lead to the blessing of a future successor Solomon through Bathsheba later. We need to be careful of our conduct done in public and when no one is watching, our God is always watching out for us. We are responsible to our God, ourselves and others. How we think and we behave matters.

20 Curse not the king, no not in thy thought; and curse not the rich in thy bedchamber: for a bird of the air shall carry the voice, and that which hath wings shall tell the matter.

  33. Workers work

18 By much slothfulness the building decayeth; and through idleness of the hands the house droppeth through.

As a body of Christ we need to maintain our relationship with serving. When your hands are not working then what are you using them for? Workers work while the foolish play.

  34. My What Big Lips You Have

The words of a wise man’s mouth are gracious; but the lips of a fool will swallow up himself. (Ecclesiastes 10:12 KJV)

I have been around wise people. These people often are gracious. The build people up with their words. Then encourage without names. They help by giving constructive criticism rather than complain or get on to someone.

I have also been around some not so wise people. This group of people destroys people as well as themselves. Many people recognize fools and possibly try to stay away from them because they don’t want to be
