Song of Solomon 1

1 The song of songs, which is Solomon’s.

Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth: for thy love is better than wine.

Because of the savour of thy good ointments thy name is as ointment poured forth, therefore do the virgins love thee.

Draw me, we will run after thee: the king hath brought me into his chambers: we will be glad and rejoice in thee, we will remember thy love more than wine: the upright love thee.

I am black, but comely, O ye daughters of Jerusalem, as the tents of Kedar, as the curtains of Solomon.

Look not upon me, because I am black, because the sun hath looked upon me: my mother’s children were angry with me; they made me the keeper of the vineyards; but mine own vineyard have I not kept.

Tell me, O thou whom my soul loveth, where thou feedest, where thou makest thy flock to rest at noon: for why should I be as one that turneth aside by the flocks of thy companions?

If thou know not, O thou fairest among women, go thy way forth by the footsteps of the flock, and feed thy kids beside the shepherds’ tents.

I have compared thee, O my love, to a company of horses in Pharaoh’s chariots.

10 Thy cheeks are comely with rows of jewels, thy neck with chains of gold.

11 We will make thee borders of gold with studs of silver.

12 While the king sitteth at his table, my spikenard sendeth forth the smell thereof.

13 A bundle of myrrh is my well-beloved unto me; he shall lie all night betwixt my breasts.

14 My beloved is unto me as a cluster of camphire in the vineyards of Engedi.

15 Behold, thou art fair, my love; behold, thou art fair; thou hast doves’ eyes.

16 Behold, thou art fair, my beloved, yea, pleasant: also our bed is green.

17 The beams of our house are cedar, and our rafters of fir.

  1. v4 Draw me, we will run after thee: the king hath brought me into his chambers: we will be glad and rejoice in thee , we will remember thy love more than wine: the upright love thee.

It’s the goodness of GOD that draws is to repentance . To yawn at sin and transgressions is dangerous .
Godly sorrow is the way for the church to have continual revival and salvation .
Paul wrote” For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation ”
We must purge ourselves from sin and unrighteousness negative attitudes , and be willing to humble ourselves and repent.
    ( preaching to self )
We ( i ) need GOD’S blessing and approval this will cause us to be glad and rejoice in HIS

  2. Thanks be to GOD for HIS unspeakable gift
    2 Corinthians 9:15

I’m thankful for the gifts HE has given us.
The gift of HIMSELF and HIS LOVE !!!

  3. 4 Draw me, we will run after thee: the king hath brought me into his chambers: we will be glad and rejoice in thee, we will remember thy love more than wine: the upright love thee.

Jesus~ I love You my king.

I pray that I will always RUN for king Jesus.
He (Jesus) will bring me into the holies of holy where He resides.
I will REJOICE and be GLAD always and remember my true love(Jesus) more than wine(this world, life) the upright love thee(saints). The people who desire to obey Jesus(God).

Wow what a form of PRAISE TO HIM(JESUS).

  4. Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth: for thy love is better than wine. Because of the savour of thy good ointments thy name is as ointment poured forth, therefore do the virgins love thee. (Song of Solomon 1:2, 3 KJV)
It was the kiss that drew me back, never had I been kissed like that!!!! To give up what I had built with my own hands in life had no comparison to what my Lover had/has for me to this day. Many will come as they will also be drawn by thy Name!
Jesus, Jesus, Jesus… What a wonder YOU are.
Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. (John 15:13 KJV)

  5. The King’s Business

    Song of Songs 1:7
    Tell me where you’re working
    — I love you so much– Tell me where you’re tending your flocks,
where you let them rest at noontime.
Why should I be the one left out,
outside the orbit of your tender care?

True love refuses distance. The nearer to the one we love the more complete, and whole we feel.

In this book that symbolizes God’s love for the church we see that not only does the bride yearn for God, but he desires his bride as well.

When we put his kingdom first, our relationship with him first, then everything else will fall into place.

  6. ILove to eat the Word!

Let all the married folk say “Amen”

    Song of Solomon

Called also, after the Vulgate, the “Canticles.” It is the “song of songs” (1:1), as being the finest and most precious of its kind; the noblest song, “das Hohelied,” as Luther calls it. The Solomonic authorship of this book has been called in question, but evidences, both internal and external, fairly establish the traditional view that it is the product of Solomon’s pen. It is an allegorical poem setting forth the mutual love of Christ and the Church, under the emblem of the bridegroom and the bride. (Compare Matt. 9:15; John 3:29; Eph. 5:23, 27, 29; Rev. 19:7-9; 21:2, 9; 22:17. Compare also Ps. 45; Isa. 54:4-6; 62:4, 5; Jer. 2:2; 3:1, 20; Ezek. 16; Hos. 2:16, 19, 20.)

According to Easton’s Bible Dictionary, by M.G. Easton (1897)

  7. Song if Solomon is a dialog between man and women, There are many things to be learned here.

    1. For our young bloggers we learn the importance of accountability to your parents about what you are talkng about. Conversations such as some recorded here in Song of Solomon are “RESERVED” for the MARRIED.

    2. The MARRIED COUPLES can learn how to biblically build and enhance our marriage.

    3. Many theologians consider Song of Solomon as a direct example of the LOVE of JESUS for and to the Church and the LOVE of the Church for and to JESUS.

    DIRECTION IN DAYS OF UNCERTAINTY

8 If thou know not, O thou fairest among women, go thy way forth by the footsteps of the flock, and feed thy kids beside the shepherds’ tents.

Great counsel to anyone is to remain close to the esatblished or beaten path of safety. In times of uncertainty, we are wise to use the counsel of Solomon here, as from the LORD to the Church.

FEED thy kids by the shepherds tents.

  9. How wonderful and great our God is! It is amazing how God did not intent to leave any aspect of our human lives with out example or direction. He is a God that is into you and me. He Love for us covers all the areas of our lives. Some people shy away from this book because of the contents, others assimilate it to the love of the bride and the groom, church and Christ…and neither one is wrong. It is just that and expression of LOVE in its most intimate form. In here God also intends to show, guide, teach, and direct. Yes intimacy is also something God created within the boundaries established. Everyone should and needs to first establish an intimate relationship with their Creator, Jesus, to understand love and be able to love like LOVE, loves….

    1 John 4:8
And he that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love

  10. 3 Because of the savour of thy good ointments thy name is as ointment poured forth, therefore do the virgins love thee.

Jesus is so good that is name is an ointment poured forth. Ointments are used for medical purposes to cleanse and avoid infection. The name if Jesus is an ointment for restoration.

Therefore virgins love thee…virgins are typically women and I look at this as the bride of Christ. To be a part of the bride is to be the redeemed of Christ, so we are born again. Past being the past, we are made new and innocent in the eyes of Christ. We are able to love him bc of the healing power of his name.

    Restoration begins now.

  11. 6 Look not upon me, because I am black, because the sun hath looked upon me: my mother’s children were angry with me; they made me the keeper of the vineyards; but mine own vineyard have I not kept.

It is a sad thing for Disciples of Jesus Christ and POFW to be keepers in the vineyard of the Lord, and let their own vineyard suffer and go unkept. We must ensure that we take the personal time of meditation, prayer and the word so that we care not overtaken with the work of the Lord, and miss out on our relationship with the Lord of the work!

  12. A strong house.

17 The beams of our house are cedar, and our rafters of fir.

What do we make our house of? Spiritually , do we allow Gos to work to make it what he wants ,or do we do our own design? To make it strong we must fast and pray. This is what makes our house strong.

  13. SMILES FROM NATURE

People would not think it is romantic to be compared with goats or gazelle or henna nard and saffron. But the ancient hebrews were an agricultural people who lived close to nature and sensed the beauty of living growing things. Its no wonder the nature provides most of the similes and images used to praise ones beloved

  14. 4 Draw me, we will run after thee: the king hath brought me into his chambers: we will be glad and rejoice in thee, we will remember thy love more than wine: the upright love thee.

As the Bride of Christ we should desire to find ourselves in a intimate place with him. Drawn by his presence there is no other place I’d rather be.

  15. This chapter illustrates depth. Loves sees beyond what others see; “but mine own vineyard have I not kept”. One must also love God (Jesus), as he loved us; “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us”. What a mighty God we serve! May the good Lord Bless you all in Jesus name, Amen

  16. Fire!!!

I don’t believe that Solomon is trying to prove he was the 1st Shakespear here. Part of understanding the Song of Songs is discerning who is speaking. This book is a song collection with a unified theme that tells of the beauty of romantic love as it progresses from courtship to marriage to a maturing relationship. Although the Hebrew text does not identify the speakers by gender, we can detect who is speaking by the context and by the Hebrew words, which reflect either the masculine or feminine character.Their thoughts, emotions and longings are revealed, giving us not only a picture of an ancient couple’s love story but also a picture of ideal wedded love for today. The story revolves around the ‘beloved’ -very much in love, ‘the lover’ -the man pursuing the relationship with her, and the ‘freinds’ -aka the daughters of Jerusalem. Songs of Songs is a poem that gives beauty and reality to the love of a bride and her groom.

Translated into modern day roles it would be Beloved- the bride/church, Lover- Jesus Christ, and the dialouge would be the churches love of Jesus and Jesus’ love for the church. The entire Bible itself unfolds a beautiful progression of God’s relationship with his people. When we look at scripture God refers to Israel as his wife or bride…consider Jer 3:8 “I gave faithless Israel her certificate of divorce and sent her away because of all her adulteries. Yet I saw that her unfaithful sister Judah had no fear; she also went out and committed adultery.” The entire Chapter of Hosea is a depiction of God’s relationship with his people, ““Go and marry a prostitute, so that some of her children will be conceived in prostitution. This will illustrate how Israel has acted like a prostitute by turning against the Lord and worshiping other gods.” (Hosea 1:2). Isreal turned away to worshiping pagan Gods, but 1st she was devoted and warned by God. In a successful relationship both parties need to work together, either your a help mate or dead weight…and God will cut off dead weight just like he withered the fig tree for not producing fruit in Matt 21:19. God spoke to a church in Revelation of the luke warm in Spirit and what he intended to do to the cold ones without His Holy Sprit which is always aflame (Rev 3:15,16). We can learn to heat up our relationships with God, and if married with your spouses. It takes commitment, and to keep it going you need fire. All these lovey-dovey words of praise are the fuel to that fire.

  17. HALELUJAH!!!
16 Behold, thou art fair, my beloved, yea, pleasant: also our bed is green.
    IT’S ALL ABOUT LOVE!!! JESUS!!!

  18. In The Presence

3 Because of the savour of thy good ointments thy name is as ointment poured forth…

How fragrant your cologne; your name is like its spreading fragrance… (Song of Songs 1:3 NLT)

There is no other name like the name of Jesus!

    Psalms 119:103
How sweet are thy words unto my taste! yea, sweeter than honey to my mouth!

    Psalms 16:11
Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.

Just to be in the presence of Jesus, the living Word, for all eternity! We catch just a portion for now, but just imagine the “fragrance” of eternity in His presence?

    Psalms 140:13
Surely the righteous shall give thanks unto thy name: the upright shall dwell in thy presence.

    Psalms 141:1-2
1 Lord, I cry unto thee:make haste unto me; give ear unto my voice, when I cry unto thee. 2 Let my prayer be set forth before thee as incense; and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.

Praise and prayer give us a way of access now to the joys of His presence, and our prayer can rise as incense to meet that incense of His presence. There is a place of communion that God desires to have with each of us. It may take focused effort and persistent pursuit, but finding that deeper place with God is priceless.

  19. 4 Draw me, we will run after thee: the king hath brought me into his chambers: we will be glad and rejoice in thee, we will remember thy love more than wine: the upright love thee.

Once you have experienced a deep move of God in your heart mind & soul, you’ll never forget it. Just like you’ll never forget the night you received the Holy Ghost. There is nothing on earth that can compare to God’s love.

  20. What beautiful eyes you have

Oh, my dear friend! You’re so beautiful! And your eyes so beautiful—like doves! (Song of Solomon 1:15 MSG)

Your eyes tell so much about a person. They tell if you are hurting. They tell if you have joy. Your eyes tell all kinds of things like if you are ashamed or full of God. Oh what would it be like if God said our eyes were beautiful!

    Deuteronomy 4:9 (KJV)
    Only take heed to thyself, and keep thy soul diligently, lest thou forget the things which thine eyes have seen, and lest they depart from thy heart all the days of thy life: but teach them thy sons, and thy sons’ sons;

  21. This chapter spoke to me about being alert and aware because not all that sounds good or sweet, actually is. Don’t let anyone or anything ever sweet talk you into doing what you feel or know is wrong. Sin can disguise itself in many forms. You don’t want to have an “If only” moment as in verse 2 of this chapter.

  22. 4 Draw me, we will run after thee: the king hath brought me into his chambers: we will be glad and rejoice in thee, we will remember thy love more than wine: the upright love thee.

    My Beloved (pt 1)

The word tells us that as we lift Him up, He will draw all men unto Him. It tells us that He has gone to prepare a place for us. It also tells us how the upright love His laws, and the righteous love Him.

As the church we should have a passion for Christ and the things of Him, that not only draws us and others to Him, but that causes such a hunger in us and those around us that we run after Him, seeking more time with Him, in His presence.

So much of this chapter is written about the facial features of Him that it is evident that we should be seeking a real realtionship with Christ, and not a realationship built upon desires of gain..

  23. Sweet fragrance

Pleasing is the fragrance of your perfumes; (Song of Solomon 1:3 NIV)

Oh how wonderful it will be to know the fragrance of His spirit… I long for the day when I can smell the presence, the holy anointing of God
