Song of Solomon 2

1 I am the rose of Sharon, and the lily of the valleys.

As the lily among thorns, so is my love among the daughters.

As the apple tree among the trees of the wood, so is my beloved among the sons. I sat down under his shadow with great delight, and his fruit was sweet to my taste.

He brought me to the banqueting house, and his banner over me was love.

Stay me with flagons, comfort me with apples: for I am sick of love.

His left hand is under my head, and his right hand doth embrace me.

I charge you, O ye daughters of Jerusalem, by the roes, and by the hinds of the field, that ye stir not up, nor awake my love, till he please.

The voice of my beloved! behold, he cometh leaping upon the mountains, skipping upon the hills.

My beloved is like a roe or a young hart: behold, he standeth behind our wall, he looketh forth at the windows, shewing himself through the lattice.

10 My beloved spake, and said unto me, Rise up, my love, my fair one, and come away.

11 For, lo, the winter is past, the rain is over and gone;

12 The flowers appear on the earth; the time of the singing of birds is come, and the voice of the turtle is heard in our land;

13 The fig tree putteth forth her green figs, and the vines with the tender grape give a good smell. Arise, my love, my fair one, and come away.

14 O my dove, that art in the clefts of the rock, in the secret places of the stairs, let me see thy countenance, let me hear thy voice; for sweet is thy voice, and thy countenance is comely.

15 Take us the foxes, the little foxes, that spoil the vines: for our vines have tender grapes.

16 My beloved is mine, and I am his: he feedeth among the lilies.

17 Until the day break, and the shadows flee away, turn, my beloved, and be thou like a roe or a young hart upon the mountains of Bether.

  1. Love has arisen…with many different ways to express it. In this, painting a picture of spring, and fruitful expressions. One longing to hear the voice and to see thy countenance. Even down to the aroma.

    In this chapter are many romantic expressions of two lovers.

  2. 14 O my dove, that art in the clefts of the rock, in the secret places of the stairs, let me see thy countenance, let me hear thy voice: for sweet is thy voice, and thy countenance is comely.

    This is how I think of my husband~ he’s beautiful!
    I thank you Jesus for the love you give to me or the one’s you take away.
    You(Jesus) are my true love…always why because your God and because you will never leave me.

    Thank you Jesus.

  3. 16 My beloved is mine, and I am his: he feedeth among the lilies.

    Praise God!! One of the greatest statements we can make are to say to God. I am his and he is mine we are in a relationship together.
    I pray that is the truth with us all that we have that kind of relationship with our GOD.

  4. 2 As the lily among thorns, so is my love among the daughters.
    Reading this verse this song came to mind:

    I have found a friend in Jesus, He’s everything to me,
    He’s the fairest of ten thousand to my soul;
    The Lily of the Valley, in Him alone I see
    All I need to cleanse and make me fully whole.
    In sorrow He’s my comfort, in trouble He’s my stay;
    He tells me every care on Him to roll.
    Refrain:
    He’s the Lily of the Valley, the Bright and Morning Star,
    He’s the fairest of ten thousand to my soul.
    He all my grief has taken, and all my sorrows borne;
    In temptation He’s my strong and mighty tow’r;
    I have all for Him forsaken, and all my idols torn
    From my heart and now He keeps me by His pow’r.
    Though all the world forsake me, and Satan tempt me sore,
    Through Jesus I shall safely reach the goal.
    He will never, never leave me, nor yet forsake me here,
    While I live by faith and do His blessed will;
    A wall of fire about me, I’ve nothing now to fear,
    From His manna He my hungry soul shall fill.
    Then sweeping up to glory to see His blessed face,
    Where rivers of delight shall ever roll.

    Oh how this verse meant so much to me this morning. Thru the griefs and trails I have faced this week God has taken my sorrows to bare. The world may fail you and will let you down but my God will never leave us or forsake us. Jesus is the one true friend and will stick closer to you than a brother. I am so thankful that I have that true friend that I can go to when trails and other situations get you down that God is there to lift you up. God is wanting us to call on him and let him be that one true friend that he is. We all have things that are like thorns to our side. But talk to God and let him comfort you, we (I) cannot do it alone. Why do we as humans think we can handle everything by ourselves? I’m learning daily to let God be my comfort and strength.

  5. 3 As the apple tree among the trees of the wood, so is my beloved among the sons. I sat down under his shadow with great delight, and his fruit was sweet to my taste.

    Psalm 34:8 KJV
    8. O taste and see that the Lord is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.

  6. v14 O my dove, that art in the clefts of the rock, in the secret places of the stairs, me see thy countenance , let me hear thy voice ; for sweet is thy voice , and thy countenance is comely.

    A call for intimacy with GOD, and it begins with submission and humility.
    GOD longs to hear your sweet voice this morning in prayer, praise and worship.
    GOD wants to meet with us today.
    HE is waiting…… We only need to speak.

  7. This chapter illustrates desire. The desire shown was intense; “O my dove, that art in the clefts of the rock, in the secret places of the stairs, let me see thy countenance, let me hear thy voice; for sweet is thy voice, and thy countenance is comely”. Albeit one must have a more fervent desire for Jesus. What a mighty God we serve! May the good Lord Bless you all in Jesus name, Amen

  8. TELL THAT FOX

    15 Take us the foxes, the little foxes, that spoil the vines: for our vines have tender grapes.

    A fox is a pesky irritant that devours good fruit. The writer here is addressing the pesky little problems of their relationship. The grapes identify the value of the relationship and the vine the connection to the source. The fox, whether the pesky flesh, the relentless devil usually wears down a path until he can spoil the fruit (of the Spirit).

    Tell that pesky problem you face that you are not going down, you are going up, you are not going under, you are going over, you are not going out, you are going IN!

    JESUS said,

    Luke 13:31 The same day there came certain of the Pharisees, saying unto him, Get thee out, and depart hence: for Herod will kill thee.
    32 And he said unto them, Go ye, and tell that fox, Behold, I cast out devils, and I do cures to day and to morrow, and the third day I shall be perfected.
    33 Nevertheless I must walk to day, and to morrow, and the day following: for it cannot be that a prophet perish out of Jerusalem.

    Tell those little foxes that bother you. NOT today, NOT tomorrow and NOT the third day.

    SUMMER REVIVAL is HERE!

    Do not allow those little problems in life bring you down.

  9. The Awesomeness of God.

    THis whole chapter is testement to the Glory of God. Taking the simple and beautiful to show us His grander.I am the rose of Sharon, and the lily of the valleys.

    1 I am the rose of Sharon, and the lily of the valleys.
    2 As the lily among thorns, so is my love among the daughters.

  10. The early chapters have expressions of the beloved

    2-3 I delight to sit in the shade

    2-9 My lover is like a gazelle

    2-16 My lover is mine and i am his

    2-2 Like a lily among thorns is my darling among the maidens

  11. ILove to eat the Word

    As the apple tree among the trees of the wood, so is my beloved among the sons. I sat down under his shadow with great delight, and his fruit was sweet to my taste.

    As Children of God, we should all desire to eat the Fruit of the Spirit. Thank-you Jesus!

    What is the fruit of the Spirit? But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. (Galatians 5:22-25 KJV)

    The Fruit of the Spirit should be sweet to our taste. When the Pastor announces that we should have joy, we should say Amen, and reach out and taste the fruit.

    Lord I am hungry, I desire to taste and see that The Lord is Good!

  12. 16 My beloved is mine, and I am his: he feedeth among the lilies.

    Our relationship with God must be personal. He must be our beloved. If he’s not, dive deeper. Seek him-this is his desire-to be our beloved.

  13. 12 The flowers appear on the earth; the time of the singing of birds is come, and the voice of the turtle is heard in our land;

    13 The fig tree putteth forth her green figs, and the vines with the tender grape give a good smell. Arise, my love, my fair one, and come away.

    After the seasons of dying: after the winter seasons we come into a season of fruit bearing. I believe we are in a season of great blessing, and fruit. I am thankful for the process, and the blessings on the way!

  14. She Praises Him

    The Beloved is praising her Lover. He is as delightful and unique as an apple tree in a forest; nearness to him is both protection and joy. She says his banner over her is love. So why the millitary style introduction into a love scene? My first thought is because a man thought and wrote this, but a banner is the standard, or flag, that troops carry as they march so that they can identify themselves to others. The woman is saying “My Lover lets the whole world know of his love for me.” As a woman, I know this kind of affirmation is joyful. But we can take this one step further. If this book also pictures the love Jesus Christ for his church, we realize that Jesus identifies himself to all of creation as the One who loves us. We are designed to praise Him, whenever married you become one, and together both are to praise Him. To apply this lesson married women should also encourage/praise your husband.

    Springtime

    Deariness disappears; beauty, joy and life seem to be exploding at every turn. Life feels new and fresh again. On a spiritual level, these verses about spring also have a message for us. As we personally respond to the love of Jesus Christ, we realize that God wants to infuse our tired and dreary souls with life. He wants to fill them with beauty and joy. In Rev 21:5 he proclaims, “I am making everything new”

  15. You must protect what rightly belongs to you!!
    Then you must protect me from the foxes, foxes on the prowl, Foxes who would like nothing better than to get into our flowering garden. (Song of Solomon 2:15 MSG)
    Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: (Ephesians 6:10-17 KJV)

  16. Seeking The Face

    When thinking about “seeking the face” we usually think of seeking the face of God. But do we realize it’s a two-way street?

    “…Get up, my dear friend, fair and beautiful lover—come to me! Look around you: Winter is over; the winter rains are over, gone! Spring flowers are in blossom all over. The whole world’s a choir—and singing! Spring warblers are filling the forest with sweet arpeggios. Lilacs are exuberantly purple and perfumed, and cherry trees fragrant with blossoms. Oh, get up, dear friend, my fair and beautiful lover—come to me! Come, my shy and modest dove— leave your seclusion, come out in the open. Let me see your face, let me hear your voice. For your voice is soothing and your face is ravishing.” (Song of Solomon 2:10-14 MSG)

    God wants to see our face as well; it’s about all just seeking Him but more so answering His pursuit:

    1 John 4:19
    We love him, because he first loved us.

    God wants to know us as we choose to “uncover our face” with Him. He cares about us and our hurts, struggles, disappointments, etc, and while He knows all, relationship is built when we *choose* to let down our walls and let God see us “behind the veil.” We can be tempted to see the seeking as all “us” towards God, but we must remember God started it all and set the pattern by being Seeker.

    Psalms 62:8
    Trust in him at all times; ye people, pour out your heart before him: God is a refuge for us. Selah.

  17. What season is it?

    For, behold, the winter is past; the rain is over and gone. The flowers appear on the earth; the time of the singing [of birds] has come, and the voice of the turtledove is heard in our land. (Song of Solomon 2:11, 12 AMP)

    We all go through different seasons in life. This scripture is talking about the season of spring and winter. It is telling us of how the old is gone and fresh new things are arriving.

    We have been talking about due season in church. Due season is when things must be done. If it is due season for your bills, you must pay them. If it is due season for your miracles, you won’t have cancer anymore (Brother Tyler Boyd!).

    Get in the word! Look at your life! What season are you in?

    Leviticus 26:4 (KJV)
    Then I will give you rain in due season, and the land shall yield her increase, and the trees of the field shall yield their fruit.

  18. 2 As the lily among thorns, so is my love among the daughters.

    As Children of the most high God, we are in the world but not of the world. We are like lilies among the thorns. Lilies are known for their beauty, the fragrance, their delicate nature. We should have the fragrance of the King, the beauty of the King and the nature of the King, putting off our carnal nature, and taking on His characteristics and attributes.

  19. His banner over me was love

    The love of Christ is jaw dropping. I can’t even begin to Phathom why he feels the way he does about me. It is simply overwhelming. My life is a love song from God. He has redeemed me with it and I love him bc he first loved me.

  20. Verse 7 MSG “Oh, let me warn you, sisters in Jerusalem,
    by the gazelles, yes, by all the wild deer:
    Don’t excite love, don’t stir it up,
    until the time is ripe—and you’re ready.”

    Same verse NLT “Promise me, O women of Jerusalem,
    by the gazelles and wild deer,
    not to awaken love until the time is right.”

  21. The voice of my beloved! behold, he cometh leaping upon the mountains, skipping upon the hills.

    This just reminded me how the sheep know the voice of their pastor…
    just the same way the church should know the voice of God recognize and be sensitive to it. Hear what the Spirit says to the church…

  22. 6 His left hand is under my head, and his right hand doth embrace me.

    The Lord loves us so much that he protects us, he knows just how to reach us. He watches over me when I don’t deserve it. Lord mold me and use me to do your holy will.

  23. 16 My beloved is mine, and I am his: he feedeth among the lilies.
    17 Until the day break, and the shadows flee away, turn, my beloved, and be thou like a roe or a young hart upon the mountains of Bether.

    My Beloved (pt2)

    Each and every one of us was bought with a price, His blood.

    Often through our trials and storms, we loose sight of how much He really loves us, because we are focused on what’s going on around us.

    Leaving church, I have been privilaged to ge to see, on multiple occasions, deer standing in the moon-light, on top of the hill, casting a picture perfect sileoute in the night skyline. As I look at them, as i pass them, I forget about the highway traffic that I am about to enter, because of the beauty, and magisty that shown through this fantastic sight. Here we catch something very important, and that is that even through our darkest times, if we look, we have the option of seeing Him standing there , watching over us.

    If we hold onto the fact that He is watching us, and that He bought us at a great price, we should never have to worry about what might come at us in our darkest of hours, because He is boldly waiting to protect us…

  24. YES!!! HALELUJAH!!! HALELUJAH!!! HALELUJAH!!!
    MY DADDY LOVES MEEEEEEE!!!
    HALELUJAH!!! AS LONG AS MY DADDY LOVES ME, NOTHING ELSE MATTERS!!! HALELUJAH!!! YOU ARE SO FAITHFUL DADDY!!! I LOVE YOU DADDY!!!

  25. Proper covering

    Then you must protect me from the foxes, foxes on the prowl, Foxes who would like nothing better than to get into our flowering garden. (Song of Solomon 2:15 MSG)

    When you leave from under your covering you are leaving yourself vulnerable for anything to attack you.
    Women make sure the man (I don’t say boy) who takes you from your fathers covering is in the proper line of authority, otherwise you will be left open for attack
