Song of Solomon 3

1 By night on my bed I sought him whom my soul loveth: I sought him, but I found him not.

I will rise now, and go about the city in the streets, and in the broad ways I will seek him whom my soul loveth: I sought him, but I found him not.

The watchmen that go about the city found me: to whom I said, Saw ye him whom my soul loveth?

It was but a little that I passed from them, but I found him whom my soul loveth: I held him, and would not let him go, until I had brought him into my mother’s house, and into the chamber of her that conceived me.

I charge you, O ye daughters of Jerusalem, by the roes, and by the hinds of the field, that ye stir not up, nor awake my love, till he please.

Who is this that cometh out of the wilderness like pillars of smoke, perfumed with myrrh and frankincense, with all powders of the merchant?

Behold his bed, which is Solomon’s; threescore valiant men are about it, of the valiant of Israel.

They all hold swords, being expert in war: every man hath his sword upon his thigh because of fear in the night.

King Solomon made himself a chariot of the wood of Lebanon.

10 He made the pillars thereof of silver, the bottom thereof of gold, the covering of it of purple, the midst thereof being paved with love, for the daughters of Jerusalem.

11 Go forth, O ye daughters of Zion, and behold king Solomon with the crown wherewith his mother crowned him in the day of his espousals, and in the day of the gladness of his heart.

  1. 11 Go forth…..

I am glad just like Solomon was he had gladness even during his problems~ I say “amen” to that.
    Thank u Jesus.
    For your word today.

  2. 2 I will rise now, and go about the city in the streets, and in the broad ways I will seek him whom my soul loveth: I sought him, but I found him not.
3 The watchmen that go about the city found me: to whom I said, Saw ye him whom my soul loveth?
4 It was but a little that I passed from them, but I found him whom my soul loveth: I held him, and would not let him go, until I had brought him into my mother’s house, and into the chamber of her that conceived me.

We need to rise NOW and seek Him; it may not be fast or easy, but we cannot stop until we find Him.

iSeek His hand, His face, His glory, His presence, His favor…

    Isaiah 55:6 KJV
[6] Seek ye the Lord while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near:

    Psalm 34:4 KJV
[4] I sought The Lord, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears.

  3. 3 The watchmen that go about the city found me: to whom I said, Saw ye him whom my soul loveth?

There is no greater love than to love God , God is love. Even our soul must have this great love.
The word teaches us that by this shall all men know you are my disciples that you have love one toward another!!

NOW lets get started bring people to the love of our God!

    The Fear in the Night

8 They all hold swords, being expert in war: every man hath his sword upon his thigh because of fear in the night.

Last night as we walked that parcel of land in the dark with grass up to our chest, there was an element of “fear in the night.”

As we walked marching through the field, the spirit of fear kept trying to speak to me…” You know a viper is fixing to latch onto your leg…”

So in order to walk by faith, I had to keep praying in tongues and take each step by faith. I mean it was kinda like Jesus passing around the communion gobblet, and you are the last one to drink after 11 other disciples had slobbered in the cup…(you know everyone is afraid of something).

But it’s not necessarily the fact of being afraid of something, but how do you handle that fear? We simply have to face it and keep marching forward. We have to gird up our sword and march through the unknown.

So last night, I took my sword (Word of God) out of its sheath and marched through the night. I loosed angels to go before us and remove the venomous vermin. Also I kept building up my faith praying in the Holy Ghost…Left…right…left…right… Until finally we had made it.

And oh yeah, I received alittle insight. As I was walking, I thought “this must be how our pastor feels like in the spirit.” He has to keep marching forward (because we can’t go back) and yet there is the unseen fear in the night of the unknown.

I can tell you one thing, it would have been 100 times harder to have walked that field alone by oneself. It was the prayers ascending into the night sky of at least 100 people that gave us the strength to press on (and the faith in our God).

It is the same prayers and faith that will lead us through the fear of the night in building our new place of worship… Lets get ready to step out of the boat.

    • Amen! Yes fear tried to get me too about the snakes but I said no, Paul got bit and shook it off and was fine. I kept on walking as I decided a snake bite meant nothing more than any other thorn or thistle sticking my leg. Luke 10:19 “Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.” We got the victory, God’s taking over!

  5. Behold the King

11 Go forth, O ye daughters of Zion, and behold king Solomon with the crown wherewith his mother crowned him in the day of his espousals, and in the day of the gladness of his heart.

Our modernism does not do us justice to understanding royalty, and kingship. Though the president sits in a seat of power, and authority our constitutional republic operates on a system of checks and balances.

The kingdom however is ruled by a sovereign God.

Sovereign means belonging to or characteristic of a sovereign or sovereign authority; royal. having supreme rank, power, or authority. supreme; preeminent; indisputable: a sovereign right. greatest in degree; utmost or extreme. being above all others in character, importance, excellence, etc.

There is none other beside him. He is holy, and he is indesputable. Our love, and dedication to our king should be of absolute dedication, and service. He is our king!

    Isaiah 43:11
    I, even I, am the Lord;
and beside me there is no saviour.

    Isaiah 44:6
Thus saith the Lord the King of Israel,
    and his redeemer the Lord of hosts;
    I am the first, and I am the last;
and beside me there is no God.

  6. Seek And Ye Shall Find.

1 By night on my bed I sought him whom my soul loveth: I sought him, but I found him not.

2 I will rise now, and go about the city in the streets, and in the broad ways I will seek him whom my soul loveth: I sought him, but I found him not.

3 The watchmen that go about the city found me: to whom I said, Saw ye him whom my soul loveth?

Are we searching for Good in the right places? God is omnipresent. All around us. I now have the opprotunity to say that I have stayed up late till 2 am praying for situations in my life, and I did not get my answer until the following day. Are we seeking God where he is ,or where we know he’s not. It wasn’t in the wind ,and it wasn’t in the fire, but a still small voice is what the prophet heard. Are we tuned in into what God is speaking, and are we sensitive enough to the Holy Spirit to hear and see where He is leading us to go? I believe that God has placed our Pastor in a very good position to lead our church. Thank you Pastor for being sensitive to the Holy Spirit and allowing God to move freely.

  7. THE KINGS MIGHTY MEN

8 They all hold swords, being expert in war: every man hath his sword upon his thigh because of fear in the night.

There is close connection to the men described here that surround and protect Solomon and those of our day that surround and protect the King of Kings.

    Notice “they ALL hold SWORDS”
Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword,

To be a Mighty Man of GOD you must hold your sword well. We must carry the word of GOD not only in our hands, but also in our hearts, prepared to speak HIS WORD and defend HIS great name.

Notice “they were expert in war”
2Corinthians 10:4 (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)

To be a Mighty Man of GOD you must be a man of warfare prayer.

We are called to defend the Kingdom of GOD and destroy fear with FAITH and PEACE.

    iPray
    iWork
    iGive

  8. This chapter illustrates season. All things have a time, as such one should wait until the correct time. For if one stays the course, one shall see the King of kings (Jesus), in due season; “And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not”. What a mighty God we serve! May the good Lord Bless you all in Jesus name, Amen

  9. 2 I will rise now, and go about the city in the streets, and in the broad ways I will seek him whom my soul loveth: I sought him, but I found him not.
You never know who God is going to put in your path to be a witness to. This is the first job I have ever had where the lady I work with wants to talk about church everyday. On Mondays she wants to know how my weekend went and how church went and so I get that chance to talk to her about God. We have to be prayed up all at times cause you never know when you are going to have to stand in the gap for someone.

8 They all hold swords, being expert in war: every man hath his sword upon his thigh because of fear in the night.
This verse stuck out to me cause some things had happened to our family and fear gripped our hearts. A fear I have never had before. But God did not give us the spirit of fear but of sound mind. So thru church service last night the enemy keeps throwing things thru my mind and saying things are not going to change but i know a God that loves his people and is there for us. So I had enough of listening the enemy and went to the enemy camp and took back what he stole from me. We (I) have to get that boldness where we stand up and square our shoulders back and holler DEVIL I’VE HAD ENOUGH!!!! I read somewhere its a true little saying: I want to be the woman that God wants me to be that when I get up in the mornings the devil trembles and said oh no she’s up again!!!!!

  10. Lord I need you!!

Restless in bed and sleepless through the night, I longed for my lover. I wanted him desperately. His absence was painful. So I got up, went out and roved the city, hunting through streets and down alleys. I wanted my lover in the worst way! I looked high and low, and didn’t find him. And then the night watchmen found me as they patrolled the darkened city. “Have you seen my dear lost love?” I asked. No sooner had I left them than I found him, found my dear lost love. I threw my arms around him and held him tight, wouldn’t let him go until I had him home again, safe at home beside the fire. (Song of Solomon 3:1-4 MSG)
How many times did i have a desperation for and to be with my GOD??? Now, Everyday!!!
Feeling alone, feeling sick, feeling fear of the unknown, finding myself in situations that at times caught me off guard. Though I was weak, It was through my fight, my will, wanting and searching for my Love until finally I was embraced by Him, lifted up by His mighty hand, He shields me, He hides me under the shadow of His wings, He gives me to drink, He strengthens me, He encourages me, He’s my Refuge, He’s my peace, He’s my Joy, He’s my LOVER..
I love His word, His word doesn’t ever Fail me.
But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint. (Isaiah 40:31 KJV)
Be still and know that I AM GOD. Psalm 46:10

Seek the Lord, and his strength: seek his face evermore. (Psalms 105:4 KJV)

  11. 1 By night on my bed I sought him whom my soul loveth: I sought him, but I found him not. I will rise now, and go about the city in the streets, and in the broad ways I will seek him whom my soul loveth: I sought him, but I found him not. The watchmen that go about the city found me: to whom I said, Saw ye him whom my soul loveth? It was but a little that I passed from them, but I found him whom my soul loveth: I held him, and would not let him go…..

What a scary place to realize that you are seeking for the lover of your soul, and He cannot be found. We must guard our relationship with God above everything else. We cannot let life, past hurts, bitterness, disappointments, jobs, family, anything get between us and God.

  12. With My Whole Heart

By night on my bed I sought him whom my soul loveth: I sought him, but I found him not. (Song of Solomon 3:1-5 KJV)

How many time have we been in a spiritual night season- a time of coldness, darkness and drowsiness. We make half-hearted effort to search for him in prayer and worship, but we’re still unsatisfied. We turn to help aids but to no avail. It’s not until we dig deeper with all of our hearts what we will find him. When your heart is fully engaged and connected you’ll never let Him go. The relationship will grow into a deep intimacy like never before. You will begin to truly know God and he will know you and will hear the words ” Well done thy good and faithful servant.” instead of “depart from me I never knew you.”

But if one loves God truly [with affectionate reverence, prompt obedience, and grateful recognition of His blessing], he is known by God [recognized as worthy of His intimacy and love, and he is owned by Him]. (1 Corinthians 8:3 AMP)

  13. How hard are you looking?

So I decided to go out into the city, into the streets and broad ways [which are so confusing to a country girl], and seek him whom my soul loves. I sought him, but I could not find him. (Song of Solomon 3:2 AMP)

Who does your soul love? Tv? Movies? Games? Work? Jesus? Who does your soul search for? Who would you go out to look for in the streets? If we took the time to search for Jesus as much as we search for other things we might do a better job of finding HIM.

Jesus is there. He is waiting for us. He changes not. He is the same forever. We need to LOOK for HIM! The Bible says seek and ye shall find. We need to do MORE SEEKING!

I love them that love me; and those that seek me early shall find me. (Proverbs 8:17 KJV)
Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: (Matthew 7:7 KJV)
And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you. (Luke 11:9 KJV)

  14. 1 By night on my bed I sought him whom my soul loveth: I sought him, but I found him not.

2 I will rise now, and go about the city in the streets, and in the broad ways I will seek him whom my soul loveth: I sought him, but I found him not.

In this scripture, the search for her true love was a journey and adventure she was relentless in giving up on. She was relentless intill she found him. This should be the same way we are toward our God, and our Spouse. Seeking our First True Love Jesus Christ on a Spiritual level, and our spouses on a Biblical level as Christ loved the Church with passion and compassion.

Keeping everything in the proper perspective is the key here, and maintaining a loving relationship of both is highly suggested.

One day we all will have a crown, and then we will cast them at Jesus’s feet. He is the One Only True King………………..

“Be Blessed….thank you Jesus for the new Church”….”Faithing”.

  15. 4 It was but a little that I passed from them, but I found him whom my soul loveth: I held him, and would not let him go, until I had brought him into my mother’s house, and into the chamber of her that conceived me.

I’m gonna hold onto Jesus until the whole house of parents grab hold of him and their parents. Until everyone I know and love is consumed by HIS love

  16. Clarke’s Commentary on Song of Solomon 3:6

Who is this that cometh out of the wilderness – Going to Egypt was called descending or going down, coming from it was termed coming up. The bride, having risen, goes after her spouse to the country, and the clouds of incense arising from her palanquin seemed like pillars of smoke; and the appearance was altogether so splendid as to attract the admiration of her own women, who converse about her splendor, excellence, etc., and then take occasion to describe Solomon’s nuptial bed and chariot. Some think that it is the bridegroom who is spoken of here. With this verse the third night is supposed to end.
Barnes’ Notes on Song of Solomon 3:6

The principal and central action of the Song; the bride’s entry into the city of David, and her marriage there with the king. Jewish interpreters regard this part of the poem as symbolizing the “first” entrance of the Church of the Old Testament into the land of promise, and her spiritual espousals, and communion with the King of kings, through the erection of Solomon’s Temple and the institution of its acceptable worship. Christian fathers, in a like spirit, make most things here refer to the espousals of the Church with Christ in the Passion and Resurrection, or the communion of Christian souls with Him in meditation thereon.

  17. I will rise and go a out the city in the streets

Be the church. Sometimes we have to bring the church to the streets. Be the church. Bring it to work, school, and shopping. Bring the salt into the world.

    Pray and obey

  18. 1 By night on my bed I sought him whom my soul loveth: I sought him, but I found him not.
2 I will rise now, and go about the city in the streets, and in the broad ways I will seek him whom my soul loveth: I sought him, but I found him not.

This to me decribes the lost of this world-they are seeking something to satisfy their soul but cannot find it because they are looking in all the wrong places. We must connect people to the God we know so their search can end and their lives begin.

  19. We should seek the King of Kings as diligently as did the maiden seeking King Solomon. Oh if only our love for Jesus was as strong.

  20. This chapter once again reiterates the previous chapter in verse 5 MSG “Oh, let me warn you, sisters in Jerusalem, by the gazelles, yes, by all the wild deer: Don’t excite love, don’t stir it up, until the time is ripe—and you’re ready.”

  21. 1 By night on my bed I sought him whom my soul loveth: I sought him, but I found him not.

This is how I felt before I found Jesus in the carpet of the left side of the sanctuary on August 28, 2011. Since then I know where to find him. I sought him out of the truth but I never found him. Thank you to this great church family and my Pastor and Sister Watts for leading me to him. I found him now and I will always know where to find him. Jesus is my savior but without Pastor and Sister Watts and this church I would still be in the wilderness.

  22. It’s amazing that we can see the timeline of the Bible by its Scriptures. The beginging of this chapter we see the desperate search for soulful satisfaction. In vs 6 Solomon portrays the coming of Jesus, hence “myrrh and frankincense” were gifts from the 3 wise kings. In vs 11 again he deipicts how Jesus was going to come from his father’s bloodline of kingship, and how Jesus is going to wear the everlasting crown as King of Kings. Now when we feel disconnected from Jesus, we have the Holy Ghost to dwell within us to correct, and comfort us.

Isa 9:6 For to us a child is born,
to us a son is given,
and the government will be on his shoulders.
    And he will be called
    Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
    Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
7Of the greatness of his government and peace
    there will be no end.
He will reign on David’s throne
    and over his kingdom,
    establishing and upholding it
    with justice and righteousness
from that time on and forever.

  23. 1 By night on my bed I sought him whom my soul loveth: I sought him, but I found him not.

There are times in the darkness of night that I seek him but cannot find. But I know that weeping may endure for a night but joy comes in the morning.

I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star. -Revelation 22:16

  24. I will rise now, and go about the city in the streets, and in the broad ways I will seek him whom my soul loveth: I sought him, but I found him not.

3 The watchmen that go about the city found me: to whom I said, Saw ye him whom my soul loveth?

I love how in here it depicts a pursuit… a passionate chase. This spoke to me of how the Lord wants to be pursued with love, with all our heart something we are passionate about. A fire and intensity that will climb any wall knock on whatever door ask whomever where is He that Loveth my soul?… oh that we may passionately seek after God. He promised He will be found if we diligently seek Him.

    Jeremiah 29:13-14
13 And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart. 14 I will be found by you, says the Lord, and I will bring you back from your captivity; I will gather you from all the nations and from all the places where I have driven you, says the Lord, and I will bring you to the place from which I cause you to be carried away captive.

  25. Can You BE a Crown?

Come out to see King Solomon, young women of Jerusalem. He wears the crown his mother gave him on his wedding day, his most joyous day. (Song of Songs 3:11 NLT)

The Lord will hold you in his hand for all to see— a splendid crown in the hand of God. Never again will you be called “The Forsaken City” or “The Desolate Land.” Your new name will be “The City of God’s Delight” and “The Bride of God,” for the Lord delights in you and will claim you as his bride. Your children will commit themselves to you, O Jerusalem, just as a young man commits himself to his bride. Then God will rejoice over you as a bridegroom rejoices over his bride. (Isaiah 62:3-5 NLT)

    Revelation 19:7
Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready.

    Revelation 21:2-5
2 And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. 3 And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God. 4 And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. 5 And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful.

There is coming another wedding day, one for the Lamb and the church. The Bible says we will be a crown to God Himself as His Bride…

    Proverbs 12:4
A virtuous woman is a crown to her husband…

We think of our joy on that day, but what of God’s? If Solomon’s most joyous day was his wedding day, what will God feel that day? At last united with the church for eternity? Old things of sorrow and pain passed away? He is coming for a pure bride, one who has prepared herself.

We’ve heard it preached, “can you wear a crown?” Now perhaps another question, “can you BE a crown?”

    BE Church
    NOW

  26. 2 I will rise now, and go about the city in the streets, and in the broad ways I will seek him whom my soul loveth: I sought him, but I found him not.

Impacting the lives of those lost souls NOW. I will seek you Lord, I will search my heart for anything that stands in the way of doing your holy will Lord.

  27. Let us rise up and seek the Lord with all our heart. Troubles will come your way, but God has given us the power to overcome everything that comes our way. Always seek those things which are holy.

  28. 2 I will rise now, and go about the city in the streets, and in the broad ways I will seek him whom my soul loveth: I sought him, but I found him not.

    Heart’s Desire

What is our heart’s true desire? What get us up and going in the morning? Is it work? Money? Position? Family?

Lately I have been as guilty as anyone, of not doing as I knew to. When my alarm went off, I would hit snooze and wait until the last minute to get up and leave for work, without getting in my time with Jesus beforehand.

Here we are able to see that even in the middle of the dark parts of our lives, we should rise up, and seek His face, and when we do find Him, not let go.

Jacob wrestled with the angle of the Lord, until he got his blessing. We too should hold on with all we have, hold onto our blessing. Hold onto our promises. Embrace our oppertunities to get to spend time in His presence.

  29. Wait

Oh, let me warn you, sisters in Jerusalem, by the gazelles, yes, by all the wild deer: Don’t excite love, don’t stir it up, until the time is ripe—and you’re ready. (Song of Solomon 3:5 MSG)

When the time is right everything will fall into place. If you get too impatient and try to hurry plans that should never be rushed, your going to see the small steps you skipped to get from point A to point B were much more important than you thought at first glance. Take your time and wait. Gods timing is perfect timing.
