Song of Solomon 8

1 O that thou wert as my brother, that sucked the breasts of my mother! when I should find thee without, I would kiss thee; yea, I should not be despised.

I would lead thee, and bring thee into my mother’s house, who would instruct me: I would cause thee to drink of spiced wine of the juice of my pomegranate.

His left hand should be under my head, and his right hand should embrace me.

I charge you, O daughters of Jerusalem, that ye stir not up, nor awake my love, until he please.

Who is this that cometh up from the wilderness, leaning upon her beloved? I raised thee up under the apple tree: there thy mother brought thee forth: there she brought thee forth that bare thee.

Set me as a seal upon thine heart, as a seal upon thine arm: for love is strong as death; jealousy is cruel as the grave: the coals thereof are coals of fire, which hath a most vehement flame.

Many waters cannot quench love, neither can the floods drown it: if a man would give all the substance of his house for love, it would utterly be contemned.

We have a little sister, and she hath no breasts: what shall we do for our sister in the day when she shall be spoken for?

If she be a wall, we will build upon her a palace of silver: and if she be a door, we will inclose her with boards of cedar.

10 I am a wall, and my breasts like towers: then was I in his eyes as one that found favour.

11 Solomon had a vineyard at Baalhamon; he let out the vineyard unto keepers; every one for the fruit thereof was to bring a thousand pieces of silver.

12 My vineyard, which is mine, is before me: thou, O Solomon, must have a thousand, and those that keep the fruit thereof two hundred.

13 Thou that dwellest in the gardens, the companions hearken to thy voice: cause me to hear it.

14 Make haste, my beloved, and be thou like to a roe or to a young hart upon the mountains of spices.

  1. Power of Love

6 Set me as a seal upon thine heart, as a seal upon thine arm: for love is strong as death; jealousy is cruel as the grave: the coals thereof are coals of fire, which hath a most vehement flame.

7 Many waters cannot quench love, neither can the floods drown it: if a man would give all the substance of his house for love, it would utterly be contemned.

These verses are perhaps some of the finest ever written on the beauty and power of love. Love is as relentless, as never ending, as death and the grave. Love is strong enough to withstand the “flood of many waters” the onset of troubles, the difficulties of everyday living, the unexpected the unplanned. The Beloved is right: Love can survive any onslaught. But it is also true that love can be quenched. In order to survive love must be nurtured. The loved one must be esteemed and appreciated. How so? The book of Proverbs explains practical advice of how to keep love flourishing. Its advice touches many aspects of our behavior in relationships. Complaining, arguing, self-centeredness, anger, untrustworthiness, and unkindness all have the potiental to quench love. It is sobering to realize that adversity does not have the power to destroy love but our sinful choices do. We can destroy love, as the woman in Proverbs 14:1 “The wise woman builds her house, but with her own hands the foolish one tears hers down.”

Ro 8:35Can anything ever separate us from Christ’s love? Does it mean he no longer loves us if we have trouble or calamity, or are persecuted, or hungry, or destitute, or in danger, or threatened with death? 36(As the Scriptures say, “For your sake we are killed every day; we are being slaughtered like sheep.”o) 37No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us.38And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. 39No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.

  2. 6 Set me as a seal upon thine heart, as a seal upon thine arm: for love is strong as death; jealousy is cruel as the grave: the coals thereof are coals of fire, which hath a most vehement flame.

Set me as a seal upon thine heart.
The Apostle Paul said we were sealed with the holy spirit of promise.
If we are sealed with the spirit of God, love can be strong.
This is just another reason we need the Holy Ghost to be part of the kingdom of God. We will never be what we need to be or become what we could become without the Holy Ghost.
The Holy Ghost is the love of God, we need the spirit of God to truly love the way we should

    Eph 1:13-14

13 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,

14 Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.

    Thank God for his Love!!

  3. 6 Set me as a seal upon thine heart, as a seal upon thine arm: for love is strong as death; jealousy is cruel as the grave: the coals thereof are coals of fire, which hath a most vehement flame.

Wow what a love… If we could all get this kind of love for Jesus and love one another there is no telling what would happen at POFW.

  4. GOD’S voice-

13 Thou that dwellest in the gardens, the companions hearken to thy voice: cause me to hear it.

The garden to me is a quiet serene place~at first it reminded me of church then it reminded me of a place to plant seeds(spiritual seed) or just a place where you can hear from God.

The companions are friends group of people that are close to your heart.and they hear God’s Voice. And they hear it.

It’s a beautiful place to be in God’s garden to hear His voice.
Jesus(God), You Are The Only True Voice.

Thank You Jesus for Your presence. Show me Your Garden Jesus where You’ll be At.

  5. Verses 6-7 NLT:
“Place me like a seal over your heart,
like a seal on your arm.
For love is as strong as death,
its jealousy as enduring as the grave.
    Love flashes like fire,
    the brightest kind of flame.
7 Many waters cannot quench love,
    nor can rivers drown it.
If a man tried to buy love
    with all his wealth,
his offer would be utterly scorned.”

1 Corinthians 13:7 NLT “Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.”

1 Corinthians 13:13 NLT “Three things will last forever—faith, hope, and love—and the greatest of these is love.”

  6. THE PREVAILING ATTRACTION OF PASSION

Consider the statement “love is strong as death”, the only true example of love that exists to mankind is the LOVE of GOD displayed through the life and death of JESUS. As GOD the creator robed himself in flesh in the womb of Mary, he gave HIMSELF a LIVING sacrifice for the souls of the men and women he formed.

We do not really know true love until we are willing to die for something/someone. We MUST be careful to not cheapen the word love.

***DO NOT TELL SOMEONE YOU LOVE THEM IF YOU ARE NOT WILLING TO DIE FOR THEM***

The evidence of true love or “PASSION” is ” jealousy is cruel as the grave”.

The grave is final; the final place we will see someone, the final place we will have memories of someone in this fleshly state, as we do not know what the world to come will be.

The FRUIT of TRUE LOVE is PASSION, the offspring of PASSION is JEALOUSY.

JEALOUSY – 1a : intolerant of rivalry or unfaithfulness
b : disposed to suspect rivalry or unfaithfulness
2: hostile toward a rival or one believed to enjoy an advantage
3: vigilant in guarding a possession

JESUS is JEALOUS of this world and the flesh we seek to please. HE has already defined and expressed HIS love to us, we in turn must be willing to give our lives (self will) for HIM and to HIM.

JEALOUSY applied in the wrong setting will destroy a life; however JEALOUSY applied in its intended setting will deepen love and strengthen life. A jealous person is always there, seeking, searching, desiring more time, interest, communication; relationship.

Zechariah 8:2 Thus saith the LORD of hosts; I was jealous for Zion with great jealousy, and I was jealous for her with great fury.

JESUS will move mountains, dry seas, cause floods, send plagues, heal bodies, minds and lives for those he loves.

We should choose NOW to return the same passion and jealousy to HIM.

Faithless, negative, evil conversations should stir up our jealousy towards GOD. HE is FAITHFUL, JUST and HOLY!

    NOW

  7. 13 Thou that dwellest in the gardens, the companions hearken to thy voice: cause me to hear it.

This reminded of “the place” that was preached. We have each church where we experience God’s glory, we have each other and feel His love. We have praise and worship amidst the congregation…but there is that place where you go alone. That intimate especial encounter with God where love grows and flows. That especial place in prayer where you hear His voice specially ministering to you. That place on the garden like Adam and Eve were, naked with nothing to hide from the Lord who sees all things. That place were you connect any pour out your heart. There’s something especial about a garden, a place where you can be alone with your beloved, Jesus out beloved. Jesus went to the garden of Ghetsemani to pray…told his disciples to wait behind and went alone. A model of the garden, the place, to be and hear the voice of God. Moses went to the top of the mountain, the place, where he heard God’s voice. In the garden, away from it all to hear his voice.

  8. 7 Many waters cannot quench love, neither can the floods drown it: if a man would give all the substance of his house for love, it would utterly be contemned.

Our love to our Savior is a choice. We choose to love Him, serve Him, follow Him. Our love for Him should be guarded, protected. He should be considered first in everything we do. How will what I am going to do effect my love relationship with my Lord? Nothing should be able to harm or hinder my love for Christ. He gave His all on Calvary that I might have everlasting life. I must in turn give my all to Him. Consider Him in all that I do.

  9. Set me as a seal upon thine heart, as a seal upon thine arm: for love is strong as death; jealousy is cruel as the grave: the coals thereof are coals of fire, which hath a most vehement flame.

I am thankful the Lord has placed the seal of the Holy Ghost on my heart and life. His love is strong and sees me through the trials of this life. His love is so strong it gives mercy & grace and the chance to repent when I’m in need. He loved me before I ever knew him. Serving him is my reasonable service although I could never repay him for all he’s done for me!

  10. 6 Set me as a seal upon thine heart, as a seal upon thine arm: for love is strong as death; jealousy is cruel as the grave: the coals thereof are coals of fire, which hath a most vehement flame.

Love is as strong as death! To me under that as something so strong it is assured. Death is certain, it is just a matter of time. Likewise, true love is certain. It is assured. When love is there you vmcan count on it to persevere. True love fights.

  11. 6 Place me like a seal over your heart like a seal on your arm. For love is as strong as death, its jealousy as enduring as the grave. Love flashes like fire, the brightest kind of flame. (NLT)

This scripture is just one of many to example the true power and seriousness of love. It is not just a word to be tossed around and used for, or about, just anything. True love is death, and should respected as so.

  12. 3 His left hand should be under my head, and his right hand should embrace me.

WE must hold on to those that we care about. Embrace them and love them. THis is what the body of Christ is all about, loving one another.

  13. iLove to eat the Word

    iLove

Many waters cannot quench love, neither can the floods drown it: if a man would give all the substance of his house for love, it would utterly be contemned.

Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. (John 15:13 KJV)

True love can not be quenched or contained. The challenge is to have “real love”

Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance. Prophecy and speaking in unknown languages and special knowledge will become useless. But love will last forever! (1 Corinthians 13:4-8 NLT)

  14. 7 Many waters cannot quench love, neither can the floods drown it: if a man would give all the substance of his house for love, it would utterly be contemned.

Love, compassion, charity, dedication: these are all unstoppable. God loves us enough to discipline us, correct us, instruct us, and heal us. He wants to see us make it all the way. What a fellowship!

  15. Set me as a seal upon thine heart, as a seal upon thine arm: for love is strong as death; jealousy is cruel as the grave: the coals thereof are coals of fire, which hath a most vehement flame.

Love God with all of your heart and soul. Love him unconditionally. Seek him always not only when you you need something from him. Praise him when you’re down and when you’re not. Glorify him always.

  16. This chapter illustrates captivated. They were captivated with each other. One should pray that one becomes as captivated with Jesus (God) as he was/is towards us; “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son”. What a mighty God we serve! May the good Lord Bless you all in Jesus name, Amen

  17. 13 Thou that dwellest in the gardens, the companions hearken to thy voice: cause me to hear it.

Adam had fellowship with Lord in the Garden.

And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden. -Genesis 3:8

  18. Not Yet–

Oh, let me warn you, sisters in Jerusalem: Don’t excite love, don’t stir it up, until the time is ripe—and you’re ready. (Song of Solomon 8:4 MSG)

Several times in this small book we are warned about love. Live is something that people claim they can not control. In this book we are warned not to stir up or awake love before its time. This means we do have some control over the head-over-heels feeling that comes with love.

Like Pastor teaches, hands and lips off. If you don’t touch you don’t awaken something you don’t want to awaken. Sometimes it is hard to control something you let loose, like disobedience. It will be disobedience too because it is taught from the pullpit that we don’t touch before marriage.
    Hands off–
I charge you, O ye daughters of Jerusalem, by the roes, and by the hinds of the field, that ye stir not up, nor awake my love, till he please. (Song of Solomon 2:7 KJV)
I charge you, O ye daughters of Jerusalem, by the roes, and by the hinds of the field, that ye stir not up, nor awake my love, till he please. (Song of Solomon 3:5 KJV)
I charge you, O daughters of Jerusalem, that ye stir not up, nor awake my love, until he please. (Song of Solomon 8:4 KJV)

Honor marriage, and guard the sacredness of sexual intimacy between wife and husband. God draws a firm line against casual and illicit sex. (Hebrews 13:4 MSG)
Marriage is honourable in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge. (Hebrews 13:4 KJV)

    Just wait!

  19. Sealed

6 Set me as a seal upon thine heart, as a seal upon thine arm: for love is strong as death; jealousy is cruel as the grave: the coals thereof are coals of fire, which hath a most vehement flame.

What is our life sealed by? What are our passions? Our purpose? What drives us, motivates us? Many things can provoke us, but love can seal us. The hope of promises will only drive us so far; eventually it must be love for the Promiser that drives us or we will fail. Our life will either be consumed by the flame or will burn with the most vehement flame of love. We all have limits, but love is what will be left (or absent) when those limits are reached and we come to the end of ourselves. What are we sealed by?

    Deuteronomy 30:6
And the Lord thy God will circumcise thine heart, and the heart of thy seed, to love the Lord thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, that thou mayest live.

  20. The maiden is so overjoyed to see her shepherd lover again that she has thrown herself into his arms, such a public display of affection probably warranting disapproving looks from the elders of the village. For a moment the maiden wishes (8:1) that he were a brother, because then nobody would show any disapproval of such affection in public.

Finally the maiden and her lover are united, the reference to “house of my mother” in verse 8:2 being, as we saw earlier, a strong suggestion that the relationship of the two has now been blessed by the family, and has been consummated in marriage (8:3).

Once more, the maiden sings her oft-repeated advice to the harem women who would have formed the chorus in public readings of this poem; that for love to grow and take root it must not be awakened early nor rushed, but allowed to nurture in its own time. Then, and only then, can it blossom into the kind of devoted, faithful, deep, and sincere love that we have seen reflected throughout the poem in the two characters of the maiden and the shepherd.

  21. 14 Make haste, my beloved, and be thou like to a roe or to a young hart upon the mountains of spices.

    MY BELOVED’S PRAISE

I cannot begin to tell of the number of times that I have seen, not only teenagers, but also those both younger and older, (mostly always girls though) runn and jump and bounce and squeek with that high annoying voice when they have found some friend that they have been away from, for any peroid of time. What is alluded to here is the same. The word tells us to enter His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise. All through the word we are encouraged and commander to be loud and demonstrative with our praise.

David was considered obscene by his wife for his praises. The man at the pool, when Peter prayed with him, lept and danced as he entered the temple, worshiping God. All the way though the bible, people are very demonstrative with their praise. We must be too.

  22. Many waters can’t quench love nor the flood. I’m diving in, I’m going deep, in over my head I wanna be……

Steven Curtis Chapman song….but relative to this scripture and my desire.

    “Be blessed”……….

  23. Everlasting love

Hang my locket around your neck, wear my ring on your finger. Love is invincible facing danger and death. Passion laughs at the terrors of hell. The fire of love stops at nothing— it sweeps everything before it. Flood waters can’t drown love, torrents of rain can’t put it out. Love can’t be bought, love can’t be sold— it’s not to be found in the marketplace. My brothers used to worry about me: (Song of Solomon 8:6-8 MSG)

His love is more than we could ever imagine… To know love is to love and be loved by God
