Isaiah 18

1 Woe to the land shadowing with wings, which is beyond the rivers of Ethiopia:

That sendeth ambassadors by the sea, even in vessels of bulrushes upon the waters, saying, Go, ye swift messengers, to a nation scattered and peeled, to a people terrible from their beginning hitherto; a nation meted out and trodden down, whose land the rivers have spoiled!

All ye inhabitants of the world, and dwellers on the earth, see ye, when he lifteth up an ensign on the mountains; and when he bloweth a trumpet, hear ye.

For so the Lord said unto me, I will take my rest, and I will consider in my dwelling place like a clear heat upon herbs, and like a cloud of dew in the heat of harvest.

For afore the harvest, when the bud is perfect, and the sour grape is ripening in the flower, he shall both cut off the sprigs with pruning hooks, and take away and cut down the branches.

They shall be left together unto the fowls of the mountains, and to the beasts of the earth: and the fowls shall summer upon them, and all the beasts of the earth shall winter upon them.

In that time shall the present be brought unto the Lord of hosts of a people scattered and peeled, and from a people terrible from their beginning hitherto; a nation meted out and trodden under foot, whose land the rivers have spoiled, to the place of the name of the Lord of hosts, the mount Zion.

  1. 2 That sendeth ambassadors by the sea, even in vessels of bulrushes upon the waters, saying, Go, ye swift messengers, to a nation scattered and peeled, to a people terrible from their beginning hitherto; a nation meted out and trodden down, whose land the rivers have spoiled!

God always sends his messengers, here they are called ambassadors. If we look at the meaning of an ambassador:
1.a diplomatic official of the highest rank, sent by one sovereign or state to another as its resident representative (ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary)

    2. a diplomatic official of the highest rank sent by a government to represent it on a temporary mission, as for negotiating a treaty.

    3. a diplomatic official serving as permanent head of a country’s mission to the United Nations or some other international organization.

    4. an authorized messenger or representative. Abbreviation: Amb.,

It is clear that they are sent as an authorized messenger. Many times we miss the actual work of the man of God, prophet, teacher, evangelist, or pastor. They are only God’s messenger. They are not bringing their message, but the message from God to the world. I know most people never understand why this happens , but God will always give anyone a chance to make things right [repent]. This is why God sends the man of God with something to say.

Here he calls them swift messengers. I would believe it was because the need for these people to make a swift change.

God help me as a messenger to always deliver what God tells me to. And as a saint to always be able to hear what God says to me.

We ministers must always remember we must be saints as well as preachers. We were saints first, If we can’t be faithful saints we want be faithful ministers!

  2. when he lifteth up an ensign…when he bloweth a trumpet…when the bud is perfect…In that time…

God has a timing for everything, and His timing is perfect. If we could only learn to trust in Him, for He knows when we are ready for what He has in store for us.

    Ecclesiastes 3:11 KJV
    11. He hath made every thing beautiful in his time: also he hath set the world in their heart, so that no man can find out the work that God maketh from the beginning to the end.

    Also see Ecc. 3:1-8

  3. 5 For afore the harvest, when the bud is perfect, and the sour grape is ripening in the flower, he shall both cut off the sprigs with pruning hooks, and take away and cut down the branches.

    Ripe Fruit

TEV 5)For before the harvest, when the bud has sprouted,
    and the ripening fruit appears,
    he will cut off the unproductive shoots with pruning knives;
    he will prune the tendrils.

When we are victorious we will have fruit, Fruit suckh as love, peace, joy, patience, submission, and more. We must culture these fruit in order to be able to grow in Christ, and to be able to walk a victorious lifestyle.

Because our creator knows what fruit is necessary for the walk the He has for us, He will groom us that direction. I had the privilage to talk with an owner of a vinyard one day and have him teach me about the prunning process, and much like trees and other plants, vines can be trained to grow certain ways.

Christ said that “I am the vine and you are the branches…”. I don’t want to be the part that is piled up for the birds to nest in. I want to be the part that is traained to grow and bare fruit for Him…

  4. For the Lord has told me this: “I will watch quietly from my dwelling place— as quietly as the heat rises on a summer day, or as the morning dew forms during the harvest.” (Isaiah 18:4 NLT)

    Remember God sees all!

  5. Producing good, plump, ripe fruit!!!!!

5 For afore the harvest, when the bud is perfect, and the sour grape is ripening in the flower, he shall both cut off the sprigs with pruning hooks, and take away and cut down the branches.

I think this deals with this matter of producing fruit that will be evidence of a genuine life of faith.

In Matthew 7:15 Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. 16 Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? 17 Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. 18 A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. 19 Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. 20 Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.

It is time to inspect our fruit, what kind of fruit are we bringing to the altar? Is it acceptable or is it a green sour grape that will be thrown for the animals to eat??? With what attitude to we offer it to HIM???

  6. It seems that this land or country that is sending ambassadors out is being judged – are they bearing fruit from what they teach? Could it be that they are trying to reach to others yet failing to hear themselves? I pray that I not only hear the word preached for my life but also heed it & obey it.

  7. This chapter illustrates place. The sprigs and branches were cut off. One must heed the Word of God, and the man of God, as the place of pruning is not always known. What a mighty God we serve! May the good Lord Bless you all in Jesus name, Amen

  8. 4.-for so The Lord said unto me I will take my rest and I will con cider in my dwelling place like a clear heat upon herbs and like a cloud of dew in the heat of harvest.
—–if God takes a rest is because he already did what was needed, do we take a rest too? NOOO, now it’s our job to do our part, he wants to see what our approach and reaction is going to be…
    God bless.

  9. For here’s what God told me:
“I’m not going to say anything,
but simply look on from where I live,
Quiet as warmth that comes from the sun,
        silent as dew during harvest.”
And then, just before harvest, after the blossom
has turned into a maturing grape,
He’ll step in and prune back the new shoots,
ruthlessly hack off all the growing branches.
He’ll leave them piled on the ground
for birds and animals to feed on—
    Fodder for the summering birds,
        fodder for the wintering animals.
    Isaiah 4-6 The Message Version

Although God may be silent, he is never absent. He’s always watching, waiting to see what we will do. Judgment will come on us all; we must not forget that he is everywhere, all the time.

  10. 7 In that time shall the present be brought unto the Lord of hosts of a people scattered and peeled, and from a people terrible from their beginning hitherto; a nation meted out and trodden under foot, whose land the rivers have spoiled, to the place of the name of the Lord of hosts, the mount Zion.

We must take caution how we bring our “present” to the Lord, our offering, a sacrifice Remembering Cain/Abel, how one was accepted, and one was not. We cannot come into God’s presence just any way we want, but we must prepare ourselves to offer Him our best. We must offer Him our best in everything we do. I cannot give a better offering of time, talent and treasure to worldly, temporal things, than I do to the Kingdom. If we give our all and best at our secular job, we should give our all and best at our Kingdom ministry. Jesus deserves the best present — all of us, after all He gave us all of Him!

  11. WHOA THERE HERO

4 For so the Lord said unto me, I will take my rest, and I will consider in my dwelling place like a clear heat upon herbs, and like a cloud of dew in the heat of harvest.

The LORD again here is speaking to the “secret sinner” and the “hidden sins”, the “whisperers”, the “quiet complainers”, the jealous, envious, hateful people that think they have diquised themselves in the body of Christ. You think you are a HERO because you are pulling something over on the Church, the Pastor and even the LORD…

***I have a WARNING for you: When you think you have won; sudden destruction will come to your FRUIT. The LORD GOD is watching everything, and HE is giving GRACE (space for repentance). This WORD will be proven when your FRUIT is spoiled and you have nothing to show for all of your hard work. The beasts of the earth will consume the FRUIT you labored for. Because you thought you were getting away with your own “selfish will”.

6 They shall be left together unto the fowls of the mountains, and to the beasts of the earth:

Repent NOW and SUBMIT yourself to GOD and perform HIS WILL NOW.

  12. 4 For so the Lord said unto me, I will take my rest, and I will consider in my dwelling place like a clear heat upon herbs, and like a cloud of dew in the heat of harvest.

There is complete rest in Jesus. No worries, no sorrows, for joy shall be a way of life. Finding rest in God, will bring peace to you and give you strength.

  13. 4 For the Lord has told me this: “I will watch quietly from my dwelling place— as quietly as the heat rises on a summer day, for as the morning dew forms during the harvest.” (NLT)

4 For thus the Lord has said to me: I will be still and I will look on from My dwelling place, like clear and glowing heat in sunshine, like a fine cloud of mist in the heat of harvest. (AMP)

We may not always hear, see, or feel God, but He is always with us, always watching us.

  14. For thus the Lord has said to me: I will be still and I will look on from My dwelling place, like clear and glowing heat in sunshine, like a fine cloud of mist in the heat of harvest. (Isaiah 18:4 AMP)

No matter what we’re going through The Lord knows and sees all.

The eyes of the Lord are in every place, keeping watch upon the evil and the good. (Proverbs 15:3 AMP)

  15. v3 ” That sendeth ambassadors ”

The dictionary defines the word embassy as” the official residence of an ambassador in a foreign country.”

The Church heaven’s embassy is the official representation of JESUS CHRIST on this earth and the people called by HIS NAME.
” Upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.” Matt.16:18
The Church is not no accident for the LORD planned and authorized.
It’s a spiritual embassy a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle, or any such thing ; but it should be holy and without blemish ” Eph 5:27

In some countries it is necessary that one report directly to the appropriate embassy immediately upon arrival.
This allows the embassy to know that the person has arrived in the country and to know the nature of his business .
It also gives the the embassy info. on the individual and how to reach them in case of an emergency evacuation of the country.

Now spiritually speaking it is interesting
The Church is an important entity in this life of the believer. One must attend the corporate meetings of the body of CHRIST as often as possible. It is here that we receive instructions for our journey while in this life.
Remember , this world is not our home we have a heavenly citizenship
As strangers and pilgrims on this earth
it will pay us to make sure that our passport is constantly in good standing.

One more thing. … I thank GOD for my Church family , Pastor & Sis. Watts
A place we can bring our broken dreams and fragmented lives to GOD and allow HIM to restore us into HIS family.

  16. Verses 4-6 MSG :
“For here’s what God told me:
“I’m not going to say anything,
but simply look on from where I live,
Quiet as warmth that comes from the sun,
    silent as dew during harvest.”
And then, just before harvest, after the blossom
has turned into a maturing grape,
He’ll step in and prune back the new shoots,
ruthlessly hack off all the growing branches.
He’ll leave them piled on the ground
for birds and animals to feed on—
    Fodder for the summering birds,
    fodder for the wintering animals.”

Many times people may think that no one will find out or no one knows what they are doing; but, in reality God knows and sees all things. One must repent while they have the chance, before God steps in and begins to prune.

  17. 2 That sendeth ambassadors by the sea, even in vessels of bulrushes upon the waters, saying, Go, ye swift messengers, to a nation scattered and peeled, to a people terrible from their beginning hitherto; a nation meted out and trodden down, whose land the rivers have spoiled!

Listen to those that God sends in your life. For the have a message for you. Always have a listening ear, you never know what you might hear and find out.

  18. For afore the harvest , when the bud is perfect , and the sour grape is ripening in the flower , he shall both cut off the sprigs with pruning hooks , and take away and cut down the branches .
    NET
For before the harvest, when the bud has sprouted, and the ripening fruit appears, he will cut off the unproductive shoots with pruning knives; he will prune the tendrils.

in the time of the harvest, God will pluck out the unproductive fruit and leave them for the birds.

Be withered and die- Repent and live

As I read this again, I felt really uneasy it what this means to me. We are approaching a harvest that will blow are minds. A revival that will turn the heads of the nation. The previous verse talks about God sitting back and watching. Then, boom! right at the matriculation of the harvest he will pluck out the unproductive fruit

Unproductive fruit are saints without the fruit of the Spirit. Empty vessels. There are many ways this can happen. One in particular are the trials that separate the would be’s and the will be’s. Some people will split at the first bout with adversity.

This is a warning to us. With the previous weeks blogs I surmise we are reaching a state where the ordinary just won’t do. We need more of Jesus and we need to humbly follow after Jesus and obey the man of God.

Those who don’t produce fruit will be uprooted and plucked off.

They shall be left together unto the fowls of the mountains , and to the beasts of the earth : and the fowls shall summer upon them, and all the beasts of the earth shall winter upon them.

They will all be left for the birds of the hills and the wild animals; the birds will eat them during the summer, and all the wild animals will eat them during the winter.

They will be gathered together to assaulted by the fowls of the mountains (spiritual oppression) and the beasts of the earth (fleshly oppression) The fowls will dry them out and the beasts will hardened their hearts.

Be careful what you watch, who you see, and what you think.

  19. ILove to eat the Word

The nation of Israel reborn from the ashes and returned to Zion

7 In that time shall the present be brought unto the Lord of hosts of a people scattered and peeled, and from a people terrible from their beginning hitherto; a nation meted out and trodden under foot, whose land the rivers have spoiled, to the place of the name of the Lord of hosts, the mount Zion.

Maybe this could be a prophecy about Israel coming out of the Holcust. I read a little ahead to try and put it in context, but the next chapter is a prophecy against Egypt.

  20. God teaches us to obey him. Sin is not of God. Lord I pray for wisdom, knowledge and understanding. I want nothing more than to do your will and honor your holy name.

May every soul receive you NOW! I pray lost souls repent and open their eyes, ears to what you have commanded us to do . May your will be done in Jesus name.

  21. God will have his fruit/harvest, and he knows just what he’s doing in order to make us produce fruit. God might have to do some pruning, and even cut some things away. But, he will get his harvest, and in which is good for all of us as well. If, we stay in line with him and don’t give up.

5 For afore the harvest, when the bud is perfect, and the sour grape is ripening in the flower, he shall both cut off the sprigs with pruning hooks, and take away and cut down the branches.

    “Be Fruitfull…Harvest Time”………………………………

  22. 2 That sendeth ambassadors by the sea, even in vessels of bulrushes upon the waters, saying, Go, ye swift messengers, to a nation scattered and peeled, to a people terrible from their beginning hitherto; a nation meted out and trodden down, whose land the rivers have spoiled!

I am very thankful and grateful for the messenagers God has sent into my life!

  23. HALELUJAH!!!
    1 Woe.………
WHY WAIT FOR THE WOE???…….SO THAT WE MAY BEGIN TO DO GODS WILL??? WHERE IS THE FEAR OF THE LORD? WHERE IS THE PASSION FOR THE SOULS??? WHERE IS OUR TREASURE?? WHERE IS OUR REWARD??? EVERY THOUGHT SHOULD BE A KINGDOM THOUGHT!!! JESUS!!!

  24. 2 That sendeth ambassadors by the sea, even in vessels of bulrushes upon the waters, saying, Go, ye swift messengers, to a nation scattered and peeled, to a people terrible from their beginning hitherto; a nation meted out and trodden down, whose land the rivers have spoiled!

I am so thankful that God sent us to POFW. I’m thankful that God sends us a messenger when we need one. When God sends a messenger your way take heed to what they are telling you and make sure they are telling you from the bible.

  25. 5 For afore the harvest, when the bud is perfect, and the sour grape is ripening in the flower, he shall both cut off the sprigs with pruning hooks, and take away and cut down the branches.

Their fruit had ripened, and soon they were to see their labor pay off. Unfortunately they left out the God element.

We cannot expect to receive the blessings of God without God. He is the reason, the foundation, the meaning behind it all.

We will reap a harvest, but we must protect the harvest. When the blessing comes let’s not take it for granted, but instead be thankful and serve God the more.

  26. 5 For afore the harvest, when the bud is perfect, and the sour grape is ripening in the flower, he shall both cut off the sprigs with pruning hooks, and take away and cut down the branches.

    How does your fruit taste?

The beginning of this chapter sets a negative tone, woe to the land. Here we see that fruit is blooming but it is sour and God shall cut off the sprigs and branches. Sprig according to Miriam Webster is a small shoot like a twig but can even mean an heir. The fruit we cultivate in our life do not just effect ourselves but can have lasting effects on our children and those around us. Is more important to me to have an attitude or to have my children blessed? We all have fruit, I want mine to be sweet and good for food and not sour and cursed.

    Matthew 7:16-20
Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.

  27. Victory

Even before you begin your attack, while your plans are ripening like grapes, the Lord will cut off your new growth with pruning shears. He will snip off and discard your spreading branches. (Isaiah 18:5 NLT)

Sometimes it feels like the enemy has our number and we’re dead in the water. But God gave a promise:

    Isaiah 54:17
No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and their righteousness is of me, saith the Lord.

Even during the forming stage, while evil plans are budding, God can cut them off. It amazes me to think of all God protects us from that we may never even realize. The enemy would bring all the sorrow and torment of hell to us on earth now to steal, kill, and destroy, but God is so merciful in shielding us and blessing us with the opportunity to come to Him and experience heaven on earth through His kingdom in us.

This is what happens when God takes over: attacks of the enemy are crushed before they can blossom and be fruitful, even before we see it coming. No matter the battle, we have victory through Christ! It doesn’t mean there won’t be hard times, but it means we win!

And I tell you, you are Peter [Greek, Petros –a large piece of rock], and on this rock [Greek, petra –a huge rock like Gibraltar] I will build My church, and the gates of Hades (the powers of the infernal region) shall not overpower it [or be strong to its detriment or hold out against it]. (Matthew 16:18 AMP)

“Gates” speak of plans: the plans of hell will not prevail against the church! The strength of hell will not prevail against the church! Defeat has to be a choice as victory is what we have through Jesus. All the plans in hell can’t separate a blood-bought child of God from victory.

    Romans 8:35-39
35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? 36 As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. 37 Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. 38 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, 39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

  28. All you who live in the world, who reside on the earth, you will see a signal flag raised on the mountains; you will hear a trumpet being blown. -Isaiah 18:3

I am glad that the Lord is my ensign (flag or standard).

Raise a signal flag that tells people to go to Zion. Run for safety! Do not delay! For I am about to bring disaster out of the north. It will bring great destruction. -Jeremiah 4:6

“Raise up battle flags throughout the lands. Sound the trumpets calling the nations to do battle. Prepare the nations to do battle against Babylonia. Call for these kingdoms to attack her: Ararat, Minni, and Ashkenaz. Appoint a commander to lead the attack. Send horses against her like a swarm of locusts. -Jeremiah 51:27

He is the one that leads me into battle!

  29. The warning of the messenger Up the creek with out a paddle

The Lord speaks through the five fold ministry. It is either for direction, encouragement, warning, or guidance. It is important to come to the understanding that Gods words are never void, and because he speaks through his anointed messengers, neither are the words of the five fold. We have to head the warnings of our Pastor.

The river that spoiled the land here has to be the anointing. If you have the river of living water then it destroys all yokes and bondage.

    Genesis 19

12 And the men said unto Lot, Hast thou here any besides? son in law, and thy sons, and thy daughters, and whatsoever thou hast in the city, bring [them] out of this place: 13 For we will destroy this place, because the cry of them is waxen great before the face of the LORD; and the LORD hath sent us to destroy it. 14 And Lot went out, and spake unto his sons in law, which married his daughters, and said, Up, get you out of this place; for the LORD will destroy this city. But he seemed as one that mocked unto his sons in law.

Will we hear the messenger or be destroyed? This river is too strong to resist. The flow of the river helps the ones that are going in the same direction as the current. But it also defeats the ones that are going against it. If you swim up river you will get worn out and eventually have to give up or drown.

If we truly have the internal river we could see the vision and go with the flow. The Holy Ghost will not lead you up river. The river only spoils you if you are fighting against it. Word in the five fold ministry are like a life raft. You can only be saved if you listen to their instruction. You can either be up the creek without a paddle, or you can jump in the boat.

  30. 3 All you inhabitants of the world, you who dwell on the earth, when a signal is raised on the mountains—look! When a trumpet is blown—hear!
    Amp version

We must be constant in our walk with God. Just like the 10 virgins, 5 were prudent and prepared with their lamps filled with oil the other 5 were not. We must be ready waiting for the coming of our Lord living our lives to glorify Him. This chapter talks about fruit. How is your life? Is it giving fruit? Are we producing the fruit of the Spirit and living in victory?

36 But of that day and hour, knoweth no man, no, not the angels of Heaven, but My Father only.
    Matthew 24:36

Let’s be ready for when we hear the trumpets

  31. Gifts to God

These foreigners bring gifts to God because they are grateful to him for the defeat of the Assyrian army. They recognize him as the source of power. These gifts resemble a tribute, which a defeated nation submits to the conquering nation. In this case “the tall and smooth skinned” people offer gifts in submission to God. It’s difficult to identify these foreigners because the Hebrew is not easily deciphered. They could be the people along the Nile river in what is Ethiopia today, or the Medes, or perhaps this is a figure of speech that refers to kingdoms in general. Whoever they are, these people recognize the true source of power and bow to him.

It is very possible that he is speaking of Jesus and the wise kings who came from far lands, to bring gifts. Consider how Isa 11:10 says “In that day the Root of Jesse will stand as a banner for the peoples; the nations will rally to him, and his resting place will be glorious.”

  32. Foolish

For here’s what God told me: “I’m not going to say anything, but simply look on from where I live, Quiet as warmth that comes from the sun, silent as dew during harvest.” And then, just before harvest, after the blossom has turned into a maturing grape, He’ll step in and prune back the new shoots, ruthlessly hack off all the growing branches. He’ll leave them piled on the ground for birds and animals to feed on— Fodder for the summering birds, fodder for the wintering animals. Then tribute will be brought to God -of-the-Angel-Armies, brought from this people tall and handsome, This people once held in respect everywhere, this people once mighty and merciless, From the land crisscrossed with rivers, to Mount Zion, God ’s place. (Isaiah 18:4-7 MSG)

Know where you stand and what you stand for with His word as your lead. God knows your heart and will let it be broadcasted if you are trying to make a fool out of Him or His ppl.
