Isaiah 21

1 The burden of the desert of the sea. As whirlwinds in the south pass through; so it cometh from the desert, from a terrible land.

A grievous vision is declared unto me; the treacherous dealer dealeth treacherously, and the spoiler spoileth. Go up, O Elam: besiege, O Media; all the sighing thereof have I made to cease.

Therefore are my loins filled with pain: pangs have taken hold upon me, as the pangs of a woman that travaileth: I was bowed down at the hearing of it; I was dismayed at the seeing of it.

My heart panted, fearfulness affrighted me: the night of my pleasure hath he turned into fear unto me.

Prepare the table, watch in the watchtower, eat, drink: arise, ye princes, and anoint the shield.

For thus hath the Lord said unto me, Go, set a watchman, let him declare what he seeth.

And he saw a chariot with a couple of horsemen, a chariot of asses, and a chariot of camels; and he hearkened diligently with much heed:

And he cried, A lion: My lord, I stand continually upon the watchtower in the daytime, and I am set in my ward whole nights:

And, behold, here cometh a chariot of men, with a couple of horsemen. And he answered and said, Babylon is fallen, is fallen; and all the graven images of her gods he hath broken unto the ground.

10 O my threshing, and the corn of my floor: that which I have heard of the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, have I declared unto you.

11 The burden of Dumah. He calleth to me out of Seir, Watchman, what of the night? Watchman, what of the night?

12 The watchman said, The morning cometh, and also the night: if ye will enquire, enquire ye: return, come.

13 The burden upon Arabia. In the forest in Arabia shall ye lodge, O ye travelling companies of Dedanim.

14 The inhabitants of the land of Tema brought water to him that was thirsty, they prevented with their bread him that fled.

15 For they fled from the swords, from the drawn sword, and from the bent bow, and from the grievousness of war.

16 For thus hath the Lord said unto me, Within a year, according to the years of an hireling, and all the glory of Kedar shall fail:

17 And the residue of the number of archers, the mighty men of the children of Kedar, shall be diminished: for theLord God of Israel hath spoken it.

  1. Past , Present, Future

5 Prepare the table, watch in the watchtower, eat, drink: arise, ye princes, and anoint the shield.

Many times we dwell on the past, live in the future, and look at the present. What we do in the present , becomes the past. What we plan for in the future ,if God permits, becomes the present.

Now the watchtower is a type of future, because you can see what is going to happen before it happens. And the table is a type of the present. We eat and drink in the now. Now the anointing of the shield means that they would prepare for battle. This was a term used back in the middle ages.

Now the question comes, what doyou do between the present and the future? Do you prepare for what might be coming ,or do you live in the now and never prepare for what is to come? As it has been said to me by many elders,” Prepare for your future, live in the present, and learn from the past.” THis is a very wise statement. I would then like to add to this and say, The future is what is to come but then when you least expect it ,it is then the present. As we see the present it all of the sudden becomes the past. THe present is only good for that space in time. For the one day, one hour, one minute, and one second. So what are you planning for in the future, because it will become the past.

  2. 6 For thus hath the Lord said unto me, Go, set a watchman, let him declare what he seeth.

Here we see Babylon has fallen. Babylon was a great city that had rebelled against God and felt she would not answer to anybody. Ruled with a rod of iron more like the Germany of Hitler than any other day.
God never changed the way he does some things.

First he sat a watchman on the wall. Simply tell us what you see, how simply can it be. Thank God for our watchman.

POFW should thank the LORD everyday for PASTOR WATTS!
The watchman set on the wall. As we wait for what he see’s and tell us just what he views from on top the wall.

Many people want to be told what they want to hear! But we need to hear from God the way he see’s us.Notice the difference in verse 16.

16 For thus hath the Lord said unto me, Within a year, according to the years of an hireling, and all the glory of Kedar shall fail:

According to the years of an hireling, I thank God everyday that I do not know any hirelings. I don’t want a hireling in my life or my families life. Send me a watchman that can tell me what he see’s from the wall God has placed him on.

Remember the watchman never places himself above the people. God places him on the wall where he can protect his people and warn them of the impending dangers.

  3. iLove to eat the Word

9 And, behold, here cometh a chariot of men, with a couple of horsemen. And he answered and said, Babylon is fallen, is fallen; and all the graven images of her gods he hath broken unto the ground.

Just found out this morning how the developers of the Starbucks logo came about designing it and what it represents.

    So, Who is the Siren?

Posted by Steve M., senior writer

Great question. It’s one we kept asking ourselves during the evolution of our logo (and yes, that’s right, a writer was involved in a logo project). We all needed to really, deeply understand for ourselves who she is.

    So, a little history.

Let’s go all the way back to 1971, to when Starbucks was first coming to be. In a search for a way to capture the seafaring history of coffee and Seattle’s strong seaport roots, there was a lot of poring over old marine books going on. Suddenly, there she was: a 16th century Norse woodcut of a twin-tailed mermaid, or Siren. There was something about her – a seductive mystery mixed with a nautical theme that was exactly what the founders were looking for. A logo was designed around her, and our long relationship with the Siren began.

Over the last 40 years we’ve made some changes to that identity. Now we’re doing that again, to keep ourselves relevant as we evolve without ever losing sight of our heritage. But the Siren has always been there. She is at the heart of Starbucks.

As a writer, though, I can tell you that there is a lot more to her than just the design and how she looks. This is what she means to me, and to us.

She is a storyteller, carrying the lore of Starbucks ahead, and remembering our past. In a lot of ways, she’s a muse –always there, inspiring us and pushing us ahead.

And she’s a promise too, inviting all of us to find what we’re looking for, even if it’s something we haven’t even imagined yet.

She means something different to every one who sees her, who knows her. For me she’s kind of the final say on the spirit of everything I write and everything we do. Even as I’m writing this, I wonder what she thinks. (She likes it, by the way.)

Here we are today. Our new evolution liberates the Siren from the outer ring, making her the true, welcoming face of Starbucks. For people all over the globe, she is a signal of the world’s finest coffee – and much more. She stands unbound, sharing our stories, inviting all of us in to explore, to find something new and to connect with each other. And as always, she is urging all of us forward to the next thing. After all, who can resist her?

  4. And, behold, here cometh a chariot of men , with a couple of horsemen . And he answered and said , Babylon is fallen , is fallen ; and all the graven images of her gods he hath broken unto the ground .

The flaming horses carrying the chariot. This reminds me of a vision someone shared with me at church.

Fort Worth. It’s on! Babylon is falling.

  5. 11.-the burden of Dumah.he calleth to me out of seir, watchmen, what of the night?watchmen what of the night?
12.- the watchmen said, the morning cometh, and also the night:if ye will inquire, enquire ye: return home…….

  6. 2 A grievous vision is declared unto me; the treacherous dealer dealeth treacherously, and the spoiler spoileth. Go up, O Elam: besiege, O Media; all the sighing thereof have I made to cease.

3 Therefore are my loins filled with pain: pangs have taken hold upon me, as the pangs of a woman that travaileth: I was bowed down at the hearing of it; I was dismayed at the seeing of it.

How many of us experience this type of grievious burden for those around who are lost? Lord help me not to sit casually by, but intercede until You are formed in the lives of my loved ones and friends who are trudging around in sin.

  7. ENDURE THE VALLEY

11 The burden of Dumah. He calleth to me out of Seir, Watchman, what of the night? Watchman, what of the night?

The life of the believer is defined by valleys and peaks, nights and days, joy and sorrow, honor and humility, darkness and light. Understanding the plan and process of GOD is imperative to live in peace and walk with GOD faithfully.

In this text we find great revelation and consolation. It is night (a dark season) and the adversaries are assembling themselves to attack. The night or darkness presents its own challenges and obstacles; dim vision, unseen movement, weariness to name a few. If we are not Spiritually conditioned we will find ourselves focused on the night and fail to receive what the night has to offer; the Night offers:

    HOPE for the Morning
    REST for the Weary
    FAITH for the Doubting

In the text here the question is “What of the NIGHT?” or “How much longer?”

The answer returned did not bring immediate comfort; however it did bring immediate revelation.

12 The watchman said, The morning cometh, and also the night: if ye will enquire, enquire ye: return, come.

    MSG
    The night watchman calls back,
    “Morning’s coming,
But for now it’s still night.
If you ask me again, I’ll give the same answer.”

    MORNING is COMING!

But for now, it is STILL NIGHT!

If we could position our minds, our thoughts and hopes on MORNING, not the Dark NIGHT we may experience.

Psalm 30:5 …: weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.(KJV)

ENDURE THE VALLEY because MORNING is COMING!

    iPraise
    iPray
    iWork
    iGive
    iReap

    NOW

  8. This chapter illustrates comprehension. The watchman can see much, if they watch. One will see, if one truly looks; “The watchman said, The morning cometh, and also the night: if ye will enquire, enquire ye: return, come”. What a mighty God we serve! May the good Lord Bless you all in Jesus name, Amen

  9. 5 Prepare the table, watch in the watchtower, eat, drink: arise, ye princes, and anoint the shield.

Take up the shield of faith and put the power of almighty God with it.faith mixed with anointing = great things in God and for the kingdom!

    Ephesians 6:16
Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.

  10. 6 For thus hath the Lord said unto me, Go, set a watchman, let him declare what he seeth.
A watchman looks and sees what’s coming must watch and pray and be ready for the enamy to come and try to hurt you

  11. 5 Prepare the table, watch in the watchtower, eat, drink: arise, ye princes, and anoint the shield.

Time to put the whole armour of God on and be on the look out for our family and friends that are lost.

13-18 Be prepared. You’re up against far more than you can handle on your own. Take all the help you can get, every weapon God has issued, so that when it’s all over but the shouting you’ll still be on your feet. Truth, righteousness, peace, faith, and salvation are more than words. Learn how to apply them. You’ll need them throughout your life. God’s Word is an indispensable weapon. In the same way, prayer is essential in this ongoing warfare. Pray hard and long. Pray for your brothers and sisters. Keep your eyes open. Keep each other’s spirits up so that no one falls behind or drops out. The MSG

  12. 3 Therefore are my loins filled with pain: pangs have taken hold upon me, as the pangs of a woman that travaileth: I was bowed down at the hearing of it; I was dismayed at the seeing of it.

This describes travail-it is grief and burden together for the lost. Isaiah describes his reaction to his vision of destruction. We must NOW pray-travail-over this city, over our lost loved ones. We can’t wait till that day is upon us to pray because it will be too late.

  13. Get the Oil!

5 Prepare the table, watch in the watchtower, eat, drink: arise, ye princes, and anoint the shield.

Isaiah staggers at the indifference of the Babylonians. They eat and drink when they should be preparing to defend themselves against the emenies attack. He instructs officers to “oil the shields” a common practice before battle. Their shields were wooden frames covered with animal hides. Oiling shields kept the leather from growing brittle and becoming more vulnerable to piercing from a sword or an arrow. However, in the end, no amount of oil can rescue these men. It is complacency -not the enemies blows- that eventually kills them. Spiritual neglect isn’t static; it slithers ever downward.

  14. 6 For thus hath the Lord said unto me, Go, set a watchman, let him declare what he seeth.

We must allow the watchman that God has set before us (Pastor) to speak into our lives and tell us as he sees. We must harken to his words, that way when he has to give an account late, he is not grieved to do soo…

  15. 8 And he cried, A lion: My lord, I stand continually upon the watchtower in the daytime, and I am set in my ward whole nights:

9 And, behold, here cometh a chariot of men, with a couple of horsemen. And he answered and said, Babylon is fallen, is fallen; and all the graven images of her gods he hath broken unto the ground.

Babylon, the world system, will not stand. Despite intimidation she screams, and terror she threatens God has already written her demise. Just as one of the seven wonders of the world fell so shall the world system.

We can take heart in the fact that the kingdom of God will always prosper. The world system will fall, and Babylon will be no more!

Put your trust in the one true God, and watch what he will do!

  16. There is a watchman for our souls, our pastor. We should be careful not to take lightly his guidance for our lives.

  17. 11 The burden of Dumah. He calleth to me out of Seir, Watchman, what of the night? Watchman, what of the night?

12 The watchman said, The morning cometh, and also the night: if ye will enquire, enquire ye: return, come.

Thank God for the watchman. The one who preaches to us, prays for us & teaches to us. So that when the night cometh to our lives we are when we go to sleep(die).

Today Brother Art’s going home service was held. I hear his voice saying even now “thank you Lord for the watchman.”

    God is Great!!

  18. It’s all about the vision, Isaiah is telling Israel that the Babylonians are going to be attacked this is a promise the Lord has given to get rid of the enemies.

Lord Thank you for leading me to POFW.

  19. 9 And, behold, here cometh a chariot of men, with a couple of horsemen. And he answered and said, Babylon is fallen, is fallen; and all the graven images of her gods he hath broken unto the ground.

This is going to be the topic if a lot of study for me. This Babylon issue is bigger than what I realized. I read verse after verse tonight all over the bible that dealt majorly with either the spirit of Babylon or the People if Babylon. I’m sure there are many things to learn from this, so here I go. I’m sure my fellow bloggers will see what I’ve been studying. Goodnight

  20. Going up to the high places

9 And, behold, here cometh a chariot of men, with a couple of horsemen. And he answered and said, Babylon is fallen, is fallen; and all the graven images of her gods he hath broken unto the ground.

To tear the devil’s kingdom down!

  21. We can’t get comfortable

Look! They are preparing a great feast. They are spreading rugs for people to sit on. Everyone is eating and drinking. But quick! Grab your shields and prepare for battle. You are being attacked! (Isaiah 21:5 NLT)

Are you too distracted by life that you can’t see you’ve placed your shield (covering) down and lost focus?? NOW is not a time to loose sight of what needs to be done. Leaders must lead!-Read, pray, fast, outreach, worship

  22. Overturned

9 And, behold, here cometh a chariot of men, with a couple of horsemen. And he answered and said, Babylon is fallen, is fallen; and all the graven images of her gods he hath broken unto the ground.

Woundedness creates a carnal response in us unless dealt with by God. Pain and wounds become a weakness we attempt to cover up and protect, yet it naturally leads to sad results. Pride puts up a hard shield over the wound, while fear puts up boundaries of conduct to avoid incurring more suffering, and blame attempts to bring peace about the damage, and bitterness facilitates reconciliation with infirmity.

It leads to an idolatry of perception: things happen, and we get a sense of perception and then worship that perception more than actual truth. Example, “because I was hurt by So-and-So, then I will distrust everyone else automatically.” But God can cast down those idols and rewrite the rules of the game. The question, will we voluntarily choose His way now or wait until there is no choice?

I have sworn by myself, the word is gone out of my mouth in righteousness, and shall not return, That unto me every knee shall bow, every tongue shall swear. (Isaiah 45:23 KJV)

  23. God will illiminate all false Gods, their will be no idols. God will not be replaced with statues nor does he wants us to remain silent like a statue.

    “Be blessed”…….

  24. 6 For thus hath the Lord said unto me, Go, set a watchman, let him declare what he seeth.

7 And he saw a chariot with a couple of horsemen, a chariot of asses, and a chariot of camels; and he hearkened diligently with much heed:

8 And he cried, A lion: My lord, I stand continually upon the watchtower in the daytime, and I am set in my ward whole nights:

The watchman. I thank God for His appointed watchman, our man of God that diligently watches for and gives an account for our souls, that does not act like a some one hired but rather cares, that tells you the truth even if it hurts for the purpose is to warn you of what he sees…

  25. Verse 6 NIV “This is what the Lord says to me: “Go, post a lookout and have him report what he sees….”

The Lord has placed authority figures in our lives to lead us, help us, protect us and warn us of troubles that may be coming or are in our lives. It is not only our choice but also our responsibility to heed to that guidance and warning.
