Isaiah 22

1 The burden of the valley of vision. What aileth thee now, that thou art wholly gone up to the housetops?

Thou that art full of stirs, a tumultuous city, joyous city: thy slain men are not slain with the sword, nor dead in battle.

All thy rulers are fled together, they are bound by the archers: all that are found in thee are bound together, which have fled from far.

Therefore said I, Look away from me; I will weep bitterly, labour not to comfort me, because of the spoiling of the daughter of my people.

For it is a day of trouble, and of treading down, and of perplexity by the Lord God of hosts in the valley of vision, breaking down the walls, and of crying to the mountains.

And Elam bare the quiver with chariots of men and horsemen, and Kir uncovered the shield.

And it shall come to pass, that thy choicest valleys shall be full of chariots, and the horsemen shall set themselves in array at the gate.

And he discovered the covering of Judah, and thou didst look in that day to the armour of the house of the forest.

Ye have seen also the breaches of the city of David, that they are many: and ye gathered together the waters of the lower pool.

10 And ye have numbered the houses of Jerusalem, and the houses have ye broken down to fortify the wall.

11 Ye made also a ditch between the two walls for the water of the old pool: but ye have not looked unto the maker thereof, neither had respect unto him that fashioned it long ago.

12 And in that day did the Lord God of hosts call to weeping, and to mourning, and to baldness, and to girding with sackcloth:

13 And behold joy and gladness, slaying oxen, and killing sheep, eating flesh, and drinking wine: let us eat and drink; for to morrow we shall die.

14 And it was revealed in mine ears by the Lord of hosts, Surely this iniquity shall not be purged from you till ye die, saith the Lord God of hosts.

15 Thus saith the Lord God of hosts, Go, get thee unto this treasurer, even unto Shebna, which is over the house, and say,

16 What hast thou here? and whom hast thou here, that thou hast hewed thee out a sepulchre here, as he that heweth him out a sepulchre on high, and that graveth an habitation for himself in a rock?

17 Behold, the Lord will carry thee away with a mighty captivity, and will surely cover thee.

18 He will surely violently turn and toss thee like a ball into a large country: there shalt thou die, and there the chariots of thy glory shall be the shame of thy lord’s house.

19 And I will drive thee from thy station, and from thy state shall he pull thee down.

20 And it shall come to pass in that day, that I will call my servant Eliakim the son of Hilkiah:

21 And I will clothe him with thy robe, and strengthen him with thy girdle, and I will commit thy government into his hand: and he shall be a father to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and to the house of Judah.

22 And the key of the house of David will I lay upon his shoulder; so he shall open, and none shall shut; and he shall shut, and none shall open.

23 And I will fasten him as a nail in a sure place; and he shall be for a glorious throne to his father’s house.

24 And they shall hang upon him all the glory of his father’s house, the offspring and the issue, all vessels of small quantity, from the vessels of cups, even to all the vessels of flagons.

25 In that day, saith the Lord of hosts, shall the nail that is fastened in the sure place be removed, and be cut down, and fall; and the burden that was upon it shall be cut off: for the Lord hath spoken it.

  1. Wow…when God makes a choice to exalt someone, or promote them. Or even when he can’t get someone to do something. He can raise someone else up to get the job done. “He has options”, and we all hope to make the right choices. God can really bless someone when he wants too.

    “Be blessed”………..

  2. I pray that whereever the Lord puts me in life that I will be a blessimg unto the Lord. And He will sup with Him and Him with me everyday. Thank u Jesus u are my friend and my savior and my King of my life.

  3. 11 Ye made also a ditch between the two walls for the water of the old pool: but ye have not looked unto the maker thereof, neither had respect unto him that fashioned it long ago.

They just wanted to patch a few holes but God wanted them to look to the Master Architect who designed and constructed not only the city but the people in it.

    Hebrews 12:2 KJV
    2. Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

  4. Getting ready for battle.

10 And ye have numbered the houses of Jerusalem, and the houses have ye broken down to fortify the wall.

There are some situations were you must break down things to save something that you do not want to see broke. In our spiritual walk with God, this comes by letting go of things that hinder us. Then we use what that was to build up the walls of our heart to keep them strong in the Lord. But when I am weak, he is strong.

  5. This chapter illustrates responsibility. Authority was wanted, however responsibility was not. One must be willing to accept responsibility, if one wants authority. What a mighty God we serve! May the good Lord Bless you all in Jesus name, Amen

  6. This song came to mind as I read this chapter:

    I am weak, but Thou art strong;
    Jesus, keep me from all wrong;
    I’ll be satisfied as long
As I walk, let me walk close to Thee.

Just a closer walk with thee Grant it Jesus hear my plea daily walking close to thee let it be oh Lord let it be….
Just a closer walk with Jesus is what we (I) need.
There comes a time in our walk with God that we are going to have to cut off ties with people and things that hinder our walk with God. If you (I) am not hanging with positive people and we are always looking at the bad change your way of thinking and have a closer walk with Jesus as the song says.

  7. AVOIDING DESTRUCTION

11 Ye made also a ditch between the two walls for the water of the old pool: but ye have not looked unto the maker thereof, neither had respect unto him that fashioned it long ago.

The WORD of the LORD through the Prophet Isaiah is strong and clear. This strong word of warning and judgement, should humble even the strongest among us.

The LORD reveals a key to his heart and a key to successful victory here in this chapter. The KEY is respect for and to our Elders and what they established as boundaries.

We place ourselves in grave danger when we “do our own thing, because we feel that we have a better way” and disrespect or fail to listen to, honor and adhere to what our Elders have established as boundaries.

  8. 12 And in that day did the Lord God of hosts call to weeping, and to mourning, and to baldness, and to girding with sackcloth:

13 And behold joy and gladness, slaying oxen, and killing sheep, eating flesh, and drinking wine: let us eat and drink; for to morrow we shall die.

14 And it was revealed in mine ears by the Lord of hosts, Surely this iniquity shall not be purged from you till ye die, saith the Lord God of hosts.

I am reminded of another scripture in Psalms 51:17

The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.

There comes a time when we need to weep and pray until the victory has come!

Weeping endureth through the night but JOY comes in the morning.

After victory has come we should rejoice with joy and gladness, sacrifices of PRAISE and WORSHIPING GOD. Too many times we want to dance to early and not let the Holy Ghost finish a work in us. I pray that God remove anything out of my heart that will hinder my walk with God. How can two walk together unless they agree.

Helps us understand what God is expecting from us and follow where he tells us to go or do.

  9. I love to eat the Word

22 And the key of the house of David will I lay upon his shoulder; so he shall open, and none shall shut; and he shall shut, and none shall open.

Jesus is the one who opens doors and closes doors. Jesus was the nail fashioned in place

  10. JESUS

22 And the key of the house of David will I lay upon his shoulder; so he shall open, and none shall shut; and he shall shut, and none shall open.
23 And I will fasten him as a nail in a sure place; and he shall be for a glorious throne to his father’s house.

Jesus is the KEY and the DOOR. Peter was given the Keys to the door which he revealed in:

Matthew 16:18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.

19 And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven:

Revelation 3:8I have set before thee an open door, and no man can shut it: for thou hast a little strength, and hast kept my word, and hast not denied my name.KJV

The NAIL in a sure PLACE:

The hands and feet of JESUS have proven to be the NAIL in a SURE PLACE.

  11. Don’t turn a deaf ear

And ye have numbered the houses of Jerusalem, and the houses have ye broken down to fortify the wall. Ye made also a ditch between the two walls for the water of the old pool: but ye have not looked unto the maker thereof, neither had respect unto him that fashioned it long ago. And in that day did the Lord God of hosts call to weeping, and to mourning, and to baldness, and to girding with sackcloth: And behold joy and gladness, slaying oxen, and killing sheep, eating flesh, and drinking wine: let us eat and drink; for to morrow we shall die. (Isaiah 22:10-13 KJV)

Pastor referenced this verse to remind us of our more wise counterparts that live among us. We might see them daily or maybe a little less. In any case we should not just assume that the things they know are just obsolete. They know so much more than us. We can learn a LOT from those who have experienced more than us. Why would you want to destroy things with purpose just because you don’t know it don’t understand.

I like history. It tends to draw my attention. I am not always the best at it, but like that it really happened. What these verses make me think about are the items from the WPA. [The Works Progress Administration (renamed in 1939 as the Work Projects Administration; WPA) was the largest and most ambitious New Deal agency, employing millions of unemployed people (mostly unskilled men) to carry out public works projects,[1] including the construction of public buildings and roads. In much smaller but more famous projects the WPA employed musicians, artists, writers, actors and directors in large arts, drama, media, and literacy projects.]

The WPA or something like it did work at places like the Fort Worth zoo and cleburne’s yellow jacket stadium. Many people are tearing thing down in our society because they have lost the value represented by these things. Often you loose the wisdom and lives of others in dismantling these things.

In Gods word we are not only given this warning, but we are also told to set up monuments to help us remember the things God has done for us. What then happens when you destroy your landmarks? –You start to forget.

God help us to remember the landmarks you have placed in our lives. Help us not to destroy them for lack of remembrance. Lord help us to continue to honor and respect those around us and those who you placed over us. Lord help us to cherish the views and experiences of those who came before us. –Amen!

  12. The Master, God -of-the-Angel-Armies, called out on that Day, Called for a day of repentant tears, called you to dress in somber clothes of mourning. But what do you do? You throw a party! Eating and drinking and dancing in the streets! You barbecue bulls and sheep, and throw a huge feast— slabs of meat, kegs of beer. “Seize the day! Eat and drink! Tomorrow we die!” God -of-the-Angel-Armies whispered to me his verdict on this frivolity: “You’ll pay for this outrage until the day you die.” The Master, God -of-the-Angel-Armies, says so. (Isaiah 22:12-14 MSG)
Don’t take His word lightly! Obedience brings life.

  13. The Lord will destroy all those who glorify themselves and those who worship other idols. Love and respect is evident that God deserves them all. Our creator Is whom we place our faith and trust and not things of this world.

  14. 1 The burden of the valley of vision. What aileth thee now, that thou art wholly gone up to the housetops?

When you become part of the vision God has given the man of God in your life for your church, your city, your family and your friends, it truly becomes a burden to your soul. It is so challenging to know where God wants to take you (even in part because we don’t fully know all yet) but to see people so caught up in rebellion and carnality that you realize if they don’t awaken out of their state, it could cause the entire body @ POFW to wander in the wilderness. My soul is sorrowful!

  15. “…But you never ask for help from the One who did all this.
You never considered the One who planned this long ago.”

I can recall particular times in my life where it seemed like I couldn’t catch a break. I felt like no matter what i was doing, it was wrong. I would do my best to make things better and the more I tried, the worse they got. I would cry out to God and ask him why, but I never cried out to God and asked him to help. When everything is going wrong in your life, trying coming to your knees and asking God for help. He will either calm the storm or provide shelter, either way he was just trying to get your (my) attention.

  16. 12 And in that day did the Lord God of hosts call to weeping, and to mourning, and to baldness, and to girding with sackcloth:
13 And behold joy and gladness, slaying oxen, and killing sheep, eating flesh, and drinking wine: let us eat and drink; for to morrow we shall die.

The city of David was in a state if ruin, broken-like it’s inhabitants and God called them to mourn, to weep over the situation and weep for the souls but the people were in unconcerned about a life without God. Look around-its the same today. People say they don’t need God or dont have time for him -sometimes they think their religious view is good enough. We must mourn for them, we must weep over the souls because someone must stand in the gap for them until Christ is formed in them. God is calling someone to care about the souls of this city. We must not be guilty of the lack of concern that is described in verse 13. Give us a burden Lord to weep & mourn for our city.

  17. Eat and Drink

13 And behold joy and gladness, slaying oxen, and killing sheep, eating flesh, and drinking wine: let us eat and drink; for to morrow we shall die.

Instead of mourning their apostasy, the people cultivate a “don’t think about tomorrow” attitude. This isn’t the “do not worry about tomorrow” approach taught by Jesus, which promotes trust in God for daily needs (Mt 6:34). It is instead a rebellious denial that declares, “If we don’t think about it, maybe it won’t happen”. However, they can’t forever ignore the living God, who has grown tired of their indiference toward him. In Luke 12:18-20 Jesus teaches that the wealthy person is a fool for eating, drinking and making merry without growing “rich toward God” (Lk 12:21). Paul says if Chrsit’s teaching is false, then everything is a lost cause, and we should drown ourselves in food and drink because we’ll die without hope (1Co 15:32). The apostle believes Jesus is the way and heaven is certain for believers; however, what he says is true: If we don’t believe these truths, then what’s left but to live for the moment?

Mat 6: 25“That is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life—whether you have enough food and drink, or enough clothes to wear. Isn’t life more than food, and your body more than clothing? 26Look at the birds. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren’t you far more valuable to him than they are? 27Can all your worries add a single moment to your life?28“And why worry about your clothing? Look at the lilies of the field and how they grow. They don’t work or make their clothing, 29yet Solomon in all his glory was not dressed as beautifully as they are. 30And if God cares so wonderfully for wildflowers that are here today and thrown into the fire tomorrow, he will certainly care for you. Why do you have so little faith?31“So don’t worry about these things, saying, ‘What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear?’ 32These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs. 33Seek the Kingdom of Godd above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.34“So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today.

  18. The burden of the valley of vision. What aileth thee now, that thou art wholly gone up to the housetops? O thou that art full of shoutings, a tumultuous city, a joyous town; thy slain are not slain with the sword, neither are they dead in battle. All thy rulers fled away together, they were bound by the archers; all that were found of thee were bound together; they fled afar off. Therefore said I, Look away from me, I will weep bitterly; labor not to comfort me for the destruction of the daughter of my people

These versus illustrate the fall of a city. Verse one is thought to talk about as follows:

The following message pertains to Jerusalem. The significance of referring to the city as the Valley of Vision is uncertain. Perhaps the Hinnom Valley is in view, but why it is associated with a prophetic revelatory “vision” is not entirely clear

Jerusalem, the chosen city-likewise, the church.

It speaks of a city who is who was captured b/c they were full of revelry and possible died of salvation. The leaders were takin without a fight. They didn’t even suffer an attack from a bow.

Archers attack from a distance. They shoot arrows. Archers are the primary assault from satan. Ephesians says take up the shield of faith to defend against the fiery DARTS. These darts are his assaults. Infantry has the advantage isn close combat not in range. That is the importance of taking the battle to the gates of hell rather than being in constant defense. We take the battle to hell with intercessory prayer.

These leaders were defeated by starvation. How do we starve? We don’t eat or drink. We don’t read the word or pray in the Spirit.
So the man of God weeps for the dying city.

This should stir the hearts of the body of Christ. We are reaching a time when even the very elect will almost be deceived. How much more difficult will it be for the luke warm and the lost? The assault is coming. It is impending, and those who are not grounded will be sweep away by the storm. Hold fast to Christ, and endure because the harvest and reward, after the tribulation, will be incomprehensible.

The restoration of the 5 fold ministry is at it’s peak. Seek God and his righteousness, b/c we live in an untoward generation that needs to see the signs to believe. It is time to set goals that seem impossible, that way we can walk in the miraculous.

  19. 11 Ye made also a ditch between the two walls for the water of the old pool: but ye have not looked unto the maker thereof, neither had respect unto him that fashioned it long ago.

Proverbs 22:28 came to mind when I meditated on this verse

“28 Remove not the ancient landmark which thy fathers have set.”

Who do we look to for guidance? Do we honor and respect those that have gone before us? That have established the path… If we forget and rebel and disrespect, isn’t that removing the landmark?

Proverbs 4:1 says “4 Hear, ye children, the instruction of a father, and be attentive to know understanding.”

Father is not the one that helps conceive you but the one that raises, teaches, guides, corrects… Some one who cares, a mentor, a pastor, an elder… They have set up landmark, paths, for our own benefit in our walk with God. Let’s respect, honor and learn from their wisdom.

  20. Verse 11 MSG “You built a large cistern to ensure plenty of water. You looked and looked and looked, but you never looked to him who gave you this city, never once consulted the One who has long had plans for this city.”

The Lord has long had plans for this city. We must “NOW” look to our watchman for the vision he has imparted to him for this city. My prayer is that we too begin to grasp that vision and wholeheartedly support it.

  21. Leading Vision

1 The burden of the valley of vision. What aileth thee now, that thou art wholly gone up to the housetops?

Our pastor has a vision for this city. You have to ask yourself if youre leading people to pastors vision/the Lords vision or away.
