Isaiah 61

1 The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me; because the Lordhath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound;

2 To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn;

3 To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that he might be glorified.

4 And they shall build the old wastes, they shall raise up the former desolations, and they shall repair the waste cities, the desolations of many generations.

5 And strangers shall stand and feed your flocks, and the sons of the alien shall be your plowmen and your vinedressers.

6 But ye shall be named the Priests of the Lord: men shall call you the Ministers of our God: ye shall eat the riches of the Gentiles, and in their glory shall ye boast yourselves.

7 For your shame ye shall have double; and for confusion they shall rejoice in their portion: therefore in their land they shall possess the double: everlasting joy shall be unto them.

8 For I the Lord love judgment, I hate robbery for burnt offering; and I will direct their work in truth, and I will make an everlasting covenant with them.

9 And their seed shall be known among the Gentiles, and their offspring among the people: all that see them shall acknowledge them, that they are the seed which the Lordhath blessed.

10 I will greatly rejoice in the Lord, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for he hath clothed me with the garments of salvation, he hath covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decketh himself with ornaments, and as a bride adorneth herself with her jewels.

11 For as the earth bringeth forth her bud, and as the garden causeth the things that are sown in it to spring forth; so the Lord God will cause righteousness and praise to spring forth before all the nations.

  1. What a great responsibility we have as children of the most High God! He has given us His spirit, called us by name, and chosen us to be His hands, His feet and His mouth to the world. He has chosen us to “do greater things than He did” as He walked the face of the earth. We are not just here to appease ourselves, get caught up in our own little worlds, make ourselves rich in houses, lands and possessions.

    We are here with an eternal purpose: The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me; because the Lordhath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound;

    2 To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn;

    3 To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that he might be glorified.

    I must get busy, the harvest fields are ripe ready to harvest, but most of the people are hurting, been hurt, wounded or bruises. I must be Jesus to them and give them the hope that we have in Him.

  2. Embracing destiny.

    For your shame ye shall have double ; and for confusion they shall rejoice in their portion : therefore in their land they shall possess the double : everlasting joy shall be unto them.
    NET
    Instead of shame, you will get a double portion; instead of humiliation, they will rejoice over the land they receive. Yes, they will possess a double portion in their land and experience lasting joy.

    But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good , to bring to pass , as it is this day , to save much people alive .
    NET
    As for you, you meant to harm me, but God intended it for a good purpose, so he could preserve the lives of many people, as you can see this day.

    Embracing destiny.

    What is it to embrace destiny? What is destiny? Destiny is defined as:
    1 : something to which a person or thing is destined : fortune
    2 : a predetermined course of events often held to be an irresistible power or agency

    If you are living for God, you are destined for heaven. If you are living in sin, you are destined for hell. You have the choice in either scenario to jump ship or change course. More in depth on that later.

    Embracing destiny. When living for God we need to embrace our destiny. Out actions effect everyone around us. Adam and Eve know this the best. My decisions impact my nieces and my family. So do yours. When we embrace destiny we know that all things will work together for our good. Romans 8:28.

    Every bit of sorrow we have experience, every negative thing shall be returned to us double with good and positive.

    I embrace this purpose that God has. I embrace the calling. I embrace Pastor’s vision. We are victorious and nothing will keep us from the promise.

    It is the will of God for all to come to repentance. It’s our job to live the life and pray for the lost so that they see the light.

    Are you embracing the purpose God has for your life??

  3. 1 The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me; because the Lordhath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound
    2 To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn;

    Jesus fulfilled this prophecy and became the comforter to all those that accepted him and his ministry. He did not overthrow the Roman government , rather he came to show them (us) what’s in our hearts and how to be redeemed from sin & be born again. We are now his light to others-we must be ready to help the hurting and the bruised people who live around us. We now have even more tools to use and help others with since learning from Dr. Hughes’ ministry. I’m ready to lend a hand, lend my compassion & be Jesus to my world.

  4. Isaiah 61 Post for Aug. 29, 2013
    Mourning is over for His Joy is coming.

    3 To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that he might be glorified.

    Psalm 30:5 For his anger is but for a moment,
    and his favor is for a lifetime.[c]
    Weeping may tarry for the night,
    but joy comes with the morning.

    The Joy is coming, The Joy is coming and all for His Glory. All negative reports will fade, only good reports from the Lord are to come. Tear are left behind, and Joy will adorn our faces with smiles and laughter, we will spring and jump for the heaviness will be gone, we will PRAISE and SHOUT for His Glory has come with Joy and Gladness.

    Thank you Jesus Christ for your Joy and Love is everlasting.

    I went to water my plants today as I do always. I looked at my cantaloupe melon plant full of flowers been like that for ever, but never bears fruit. My thought was ” I am tired of watering a plant that flowers but does not bear fruit”, then I heard deep in my soul … “so do I, look around you how many of you have received my Glorious rain, you got the new rain, and the latter rain; but you still stuck in the every day routines and yes you flowered beautifully you flowered, but where is your fruit.”

    Lord forgive me for miss using your time. We need to go and pollinate sharing His good news, JOY IS COMING, Bring some fruit out of your flower, JOY IS COMING!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  5. 10 I will greatly rejoice in the Lord, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for he hath clothed me with the garments of salvation, he hath covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decketh himself with ornaments, and as a bride adorneth herself with her jewels.

    HALLELUJAH.. I will adorn myself with joy and righteousness because of my salvation!!! I am set free thank you Jesus, no I didn’t deserve it, no I can do nothing to deserve it. My king depended off his heavenly throne to come and suffer for my sake and yours too! So I will not allow the circumstances of life get me down!! I know who awaits me in heaven!! Yes everybody makes mistakes but that’s why he gives us grace, thank you Jesus for giving me so much more than I could ever deserve! HALLELUJAH

  6. “HOLD ON” HOPE AND JOY IS ON THE WAY

    11 For as the earth bringeth forth her bud, and as the garden causeth the things that are sown in it to spring forth; so the Lord God will cause righteousness and praise to spring forth before all the nations.

    As we continue to live “righteousness”, walk “righteousness”, talk “righteousness”. The seeds of “righteousness that are sewn, will bring forth a bud and spring forth, GOD will cause the “seeds” that we have sewn to become the FRUIT of our life, producing JOY of the Harvest.

    When is it gong to happen?
    Galatians 6:9 And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.

    How fast can it happen?
    Numbers 17:8 And it came to pass, that on the morrow Moses went into the tabernacle of witness; and, behold, the rod of Aaron for the house of Levi was budded, and brought forth buds, and bloomed blossoms, and yielded almonds.

    It could happen “OVERNIGHT”.

  7. “The Reason God Gave Us the Holy Ghost”

    Why did God give us the Holy Ghost? Some might say for salvation…and they would be right, but Salvation is not for us alone…Salvation is for everyone around us . Salvation in the Hebrew is ישׁוּעה. (yeshû‛âh) which means “something saved”, that is, (abstractly) deliverance; hence aid, victory, prosperity: – deliverance, health, help (-ing), salvation, save, saving (health), welfare.

    Isaiah 61:1-3 The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound; 2 To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn; 3 To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified.

    So, why did we receive the Holy Ghost? Why does the Holy Ghost and power come upon us?
    1. To preach. (you don’t have to be a preacher to tell others what Jesus has done for you)
    A primitive root; properly to be fresh, that is, full (rosy, figuratively cheerful); to announce (glad news): – messenger, preach, publish, shew forth, (bear, bring, carry, preach, good, tell good) tidings.
    2.To Bind. (when we go to the Hospital, our wounds are wrapped).
    A primitive root; to wrap firmly (especially a turban, compress, or saddle); figuratively to stop, to rule: – bind (up), gird about, govern, healer, put, saddle, wrap about.
    3.proclaim liberty to the captives
    4.opening of the prison to them that are bound. (Helping people get freedom over spiritual bondage)
    Luke 13:12 And when Jesus saw her, he called her to him, and said unto her, Woman, thou art loosed from thine infirmity. Luke 13:16 And ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan hath bound, lo, these eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the sabbath day?

    5. To appoint.
    (TO GET OUR FRIENDS AND NEW CONVERTS A JOB)
    *beauty for ashes (Cleaning Ministry)
    *joy for mourning (Choir)
    *the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness (Praise Team)
    *trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, (Landscaping/Mowing Team)
    *opening of the prison (Prison Ministry)
    *and they shall repair the waste cities (Building Maintenance)
    *men shall call you the Ministers of our God (Ministers and Wives/Ministers in Training)
    *he hath covered me with the robe of righteousness (Baptism Assistant)
    *And their seed shall be known among the Gentiles (Outreach)
    *praise to spring forth before all the nations. (Praise in Motion)
    *as a bridegroom decketh himself with ornaments, and as a bride adorneth herself with her jewels. (From Motion to Fusion)
    *And strangers shall stand (Need Hospitality Team/Ushers to find them a seat)
    *among the Gentiles, and their offspring (Children’s Ministry)
    *men shall call (…and women…Care Team).

    There is a Ministry and Opportunity for everyone at POFW to be used of God! That is the reason We Have Been Anointed!

  8. I’m going to spend my time on this world to please the one who is waiting for me in Heaven! The one who gave me everything I have, and loves me when I am unloveable. I can’t wait to be by His side and worship day and night! Thank you Jesus!!

  9. Thank you JESUS . We go not in our own righteousness it is as but as filthy rags
    …… but in the righteousness of GOD, whose HOLY SPIRIT we have.
    Thank you JESUS HE has clothed us in HIS own RIGHTEOUSNESS by HIS SPIRIT. We have not been left powerless we can do it !!!! REJOICE !!

  10. 1 The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me; because the Lordhath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound;

    Jail Break

    “…The opening of the prision to them that are bound…” caught my eye as I was reading.

    So many times I have heard this preached about and never caught what I saw today. There is 1 prision that is to be opened, and as called mena and women of God, we can only open a way of opertunity for those that are imprisioned by the bonds of this world so that THEY can walk through into freedom. We don’t free them, we simply show them the way.

    Many times, even the leaders of churches are bound by something or another, that haunts them, continually striving with their spirit man to try to drag them down. BUT GOD, has given us the opertunity to share how great He is, and how He desires for us to be filled with peace and joy, and to be free from the memories that haunt us.

    Forgiveness allows us to get out from under the death sentence that we are warned of in the word, ” For the wages of sin are death..”, but God doesn’t stop there. He offers us peace through the Holy Ghost, and a joy too that cannot be matched.

    Our freedom from the bonds of this world come through fruit of the spirit. The more we exibit these gifts, the more we walk in this freedom. We must be able to walk in this freedom and show others, in order for them to want it too. As they see this freedom, and they want it too, God will begin to work in their lives to help them to change and be free from their prisions too. As we lift God up, He draws all men unto Himself…

  11. 1 The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me; because the Lordhath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound;

  12. 10 I will greatly rejoice in the Lord, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for he hath clothed me with the garments of salvation, he hath covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decketh himself with ornaments, and as a bride adorneth herself with her jewels.
    11 For as the earth bringeth forth her bud, and as the garden causeth the things that are sown in it to spring forth; so the Lord God will cause righteousness and praise to spring forth before all the nations.

    The beauty of praise and righteousness. This vs. passage goes to show us that when we have these two things, it is as though we are making ourselves ready for the Master. Just as the earth makes herself ready with nature, so must we get ready for the bridegroom.

  13. 10 I will greatly rejoice in the Lord, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for he hath clothed me with the garments of salvation, he hath covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decketh himself with ornaments, and as a bride adorneth herself with her jewels.

    For as the earth bringeth forth her bud, and as the garden causeth the things that are sown in it to spring forth; so the Lord God will cause righteousness and praise to spring forth before all the nations.

  14. 10 I will greatly rejoice in the Lord, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for he hath clothed me with the garments of salvation, he hath covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decketh himself with ornaments, and as a bride adorneth herself with her jewels.

    I will Rejoice and be joyful with The Lord!

  15. This chapter illustrates time. One need not worry for it will happen, when the Lord declares it is time; “For as the earth bringeth forth her bud, and as the garden causeth the things that are sown in it to spring forth; so the Lord God will cause righteousness and praise to spring forth before all the nations”. What a mighty God we serve! May the good Lord Bless you all in Jesus name, Amen

  16. 6 But ye shall be named the Priests of the Lord: men shall call you the Ministers of our God: ye shall eat the riches of the Gentiles, and in their glory shall ye boast yourselves.

    PRIESTS OF THE LORD

    What a title Priests of the Lord, Ministers of our God. I think the greatest title we could have would be Priests and Ministers. These people will actually eat the riches of the gentiles. Thank God for the opportunity to see how God will elevate us if we allow him to move in our lives.
    Lord help us be Priests and Ministers.

  17. 1 The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me; because the Lordhath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound;

  18. 10 I am overwhelmed with joy in the Lord my God! For he has dressed me with the clothing of salvation and draped me in a robe of righteousness….

    What a blessing to be dressed in God’s salvation and righteousness, and have such an overwhelming amount of joy. Continue to dress me God!

  19. 10 I will greatly rejoice in the Lord, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for he hath clothed me with the garments of salvation, he hath covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decketh himself with ornaments, and as a bride adorneth herself with her jewels.

    Rejoice in the Lord alway: and again I say, Rejoice. -Philippians 4:4

    I rejoice in the God of my salvation. He is my God in him will I trust. I can only rejoice because of what The Lord has delivered me from.

    It has been said before and I say it again “You don’t know like I know what The Lord has done for me”.

  20. The enemy thought he won but he rose again

    4 And they shall build the old wastes, they shall raise up the former desolations, and they shall repair the waste cities, the desolations of many generations.

    The spirit of God cannot be defeated or overcome. Just as Jesus rose from the dead. Satan thought he had won the battle but on the third day he rose again.

    We must rise
    We must overcome
    We must be free from the defeat

    My God is big enough

  21. 1 The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me; because the Lordhath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound;

    Im so thankful to have a man of God in my life that would preach the annointed word of God broken hearts are healed, lives are made whole, breaking every chains. I am so very grateful and i dont want to ever take it for granted.

  22. “Because I, God, love fair dealing and hate thievery and crime, I’ll pay your wages on time and in full, and establish my eternal covenant with you. Your descendants will become well-known all over. Your children in foreign countries Will be recognized at once as the people I have blessed.” (Isaiah 61:8, 9 MSG)

    We are blessed!!

    Once I was young, and now I am old. Yet I have never seen the godly abandoned or their children begging for bread. For the Lord loves justice, and he will never abandon the godly. He will keep them safe forever, but the children of the wicked will die. The godly will possess the land and will live there forever. (Psalms 37:25, 28, 29 NLT)

  23. 3 To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that he might be glorified.

    Let is put on praise and shake off heaviness. God wants us to be free.

  24. Beauty for Ashes

    Isaiah 61:10
    I will greatly rejoice in the Lord,
    my soul shall be joyful in my God;
    for he hath clothed me with the garments of salvation,
    he hath covered me with the robe of righteousness,
    as a bridegroom decketh himself with ornaments,
    and as a bride adorneth herself with her jewels.

    God’s way of doing things is much different than ours. When preparing for a wedding we go through hours of research. What is the perfect location, cake, colors, music, agenda, and dress?

    Everything must be perfect, and many times frustration develops because of the big day.

    Yet God does this with us everyday. He delicately, deliberately, and carefully removes the excess and replaces it with a jewel or ornament of his character.

    He allows us to go through trials, and challenges to make us, shape us, and prepare us for that great day.

    Isaiah 61:3
    To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion,
    to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning,
    the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness;
    that they might be called trees of righteousness,
    the planting of the Lord, that he might be glorified.

    In place of our dead burned up ashes he gives us beauty. When there should be weeping, and an ominous looking forward to the flames of hades he instead gives us joy, a way of escape, and expectancy of heaven.

    Value in exchange for worthlessness, and a life of continually birthing joy for death.

  25. 10 I will greatly rejoice in the Lord, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for he hath clothed me with the garments of salvation, he hath covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decketh himself with ornaments, and as a bride adorneth herself with her jewels.

    I will rejoice and be joyfull because God clothed me! He took the filthy rags that I had tried to cover myself with before and covered me. Just like Adam and Eve in the garden who could not cover their nakedness with their man made clothes neither can we cover our shame in our own self made righteousness.

  26. A Double Portion

    Isaiah 61:7
    Instead of shame and dishonor, you will enjoy a double share of honor. You will possess a double portion of prosperity in your land, and everlasting joy will be yours.

    People who have achieved success with earthly riches can tell you that it does not cause unhappiness and “life” to go away. It is a sad reality that many living “the good life” of riches are also living in loneliness, despair, and other slums of inner poverty. Isaiah 61:7 points out a blessing beyond material riches. It highlights a healing such that we could enjoy our material blessings.

    Prosperity of stuff doesn’t create joy, so where does the joy come from? I believe that double portion speaks of outer and *inner* blessing, namely a healing of  aforementioned shame. Honor will remove shame in the eyes of society, material blessing will remove shame in the eyes of your family who needs provision and security, but who will remove the shame from within?

    3 John 1:2
    Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.

    There’s an inner prosperity that can only come in being free from shame. Shame, ultimately, is unforgiveness towards us that we have taken upon ourselves. It can come slyly, such as a woman feeling ashamed because she doesn’t think she’s as well-dressed as another woman. Instead of simply admiring the other’s attire, she takes on an offense towards herself and holds herself hostage with unforgiveness. It seems perhaps small but it is of eternal significance. Every time she goes to the mirror, that shame will speak up and remind her of her perceived inferiority and rob her of wholeness in God’s love.

    The thing about the double portion of prosperity is that the inner prosperity we most desire is the one that won’t just fall into our laps; it’s the one we must *choose.* Forgiveness leads to freedom and healing. It does not mean lying down in the grave of the offense but climbing out and filling in the hole. It releases the situation and makes room for prosperity.

    When the body gets sick, it would never heal if it held on to what made it sick. Instead, the body performs many elaborate filtering and removal processes to eliminate the body of harmful things. We need to be willing to let go of the shame and allow inner prosperity to blossom.

    1 The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me; because the Lordhath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound;

    2 To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn;

    3 To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that he might be glorified.

    Bruised hands struggle to embrace blessing; inner prosperity lets outer prosperity become an enjoyment. Unforgiveness will rob us of the blessedness of blessing, so we must make up in our minds that unforgiveness is never worth it and continually strive to be free of it. Nothing is fixed with shame; time to let it go and be blessed!

  27. The spirit of the sovereign Lord is upon me, because the Lord has chosen me. He has commissioned me to encourage the poor, to help the brokenhearted, to decree the release of captives, and the freeing of prisoners, (Isaiah 61:1 NET)
    Our Mission is The Kingdom Of God. We have been called and chosen of God for such a time as this …. Souls, reaching the lost with His Word, and His Love.

  28. He gives us Beauty for ashes, Oil of Joy for mourning, and the garment of praise in exchange for the spirit of heaviness, and called the trees of righteousness! Lord Jesus “BE GLORIFIED”….he hears our cries!

    3 To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that he might be glorified.

    “Taling about having DOUBLE for your TROUBLE”…..Amen.

    7 For your shame ye shall have double; and for confusion they shall
    rejoice in their portion: therefore in their land they shall possess the double: everlasting joy shall be unto them.
    _____________________________________________________

    10 I will greatly rejoice in the Lord, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for he hath clothed me with the garments of salvation, he hath covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decketh himself with ornaments, and as a bride adorneth herself with her jewels.

    “Bless the Lord OH my soul.” And for he adorns us with robes & garments, and with ornaments, as a bride adorneth herself with jewels. “We are the bride of Christ Jesus, and he does bless his body.” He does bless his people with honor and righteousness, and I believe our JOY is going to be increased in these last days, In Jesus name, Amen.

    “Be blessed”………………………

  29. 2 To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn;

    God knows all and sees all. The enemies in our lives will be punished by the Lord. He will show his kindness and comfort all those who were mistreated, hurt etc. His mercy endureth forever.

  30. Isaiah 61:11 For as the earth bringeth forth her bud,and as the garden causeth the things that are sown in it to spring forth;so the Lord God will cause righteousness and praiseto spring forth before all the nations.

    What have you sown?
    Sacrifucial worship, prayers of faith, fastings, working for the Kingdom, endured the attacts, resisted the enemy passed the tests, been through affliction, been through the fire…and here comes the Lord mighty to free, heal, and restore. Let the Anointed one destroy everey yoke, let Him heal every wound. He will cause that which has been sown to spring forth in praise and joy.

  31. Restoration

    God promises that those who grieve in Zion will “rebuild the ancient ruins” of cities and “restore the places along long devastated” (Isa 61: 4). This is likely a reference to the restoration of the ruins created by the successive invasions of Assyria and Babylon. Though this is a remarkable commitment, God focuses first on the restoration of His people. He will bind up the broken hearted, proclaim freedom for the captives, and release prisioners from their dark cells (Isa 61:1). The outer restoration symbolizes an inner healing of hearts. The inner person matters most to God, like, people first then places second priority. So the physical rebuilding of torn-down dwelling places reveals a Comforter who cares about his people’s every need and desire. He travels the extra mile to restore their dignity and security. When Jesus begins his ministry in Nazareth, He enters the synagoge and reads Isa 61:1-2 to the congregation. The he claims, “Today this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing” (Luke 4:21). Like His Father, the Son’s first priority is soul restoration (PS 23:3).

  32. Verses 10-11 MSG “I will sing for joy in God, explode in praise from deep in my soul! He dressed me up in a suit of salvation, he outfitted me in a robe of righteousness, As a bridegroom who puts on a tuxedo and a bride a jeweled tiara. For as the earth bursts with spring wildflowers, and as a garden cascades with blossoms, So the Master, God, brings righteousness into full bloom and puts praise on display before the nations.”
