Jeremiah 8

1 At that time, saith the Lord, they shall bring out the bones of the kings of Judah, and the bones of his princes, and the bones of the priests, and the bones of the prophets, and the bones of the inhabitants of Jerusalem, out of their graves:

And they shall spread them before the sun, and the moon, and all the host of heaven, whom they have loved, and whom they have served, and after whom they have walked, and whom they have sought, and whom they have worshipped: they shall not be gathered, nor be buried; they shall be for dung upon the face of the earth.

And death shall be chosen rather than life by all the residue of them that remain of this evil family, which remain in all the places whither I have driven them, saith the Lord of hosts.

Moreover thou shalt say unto them, Thus saith the Lord; Shall they fall, and not arise? shall he turn away, and not return?

Why then is this people of Jerusalem slidden back by a perpetual backsliding? they hold fast deceit, they refuse to return.

I hearkened and heard, but they spake not aright: no man repented him of his wickedness, saying, What have I done? every one turned to his course, as the horse rusheth into the battle.

Yea, the stork in the heaven knoweth her appointed times; and the turtle and the crane and the swallow observe the time of their coming; but my people know not the judgment of theLord.

How do ye say, We are wise, and the law of the Lord is with us? Lo, certainly in vain made he it; the pen of the scribes is in vain.

The wise men are ashamed, they are dismayed and taken: lo, they have rejected the word of the Lord; and what wisdom is in them?

10 Therefore will I give their wives unto others, and their fields to them that shall inherit them: for every one from the least even unto the greatest is given to covetousness, from the prophet even unto the priest every one dealeth falsely.

11 For they have healed the hurt of the daughter of my people slightly, saying, Peace, peace; when there is no peace.

12 Were they ashamed when they had committed abomination? nay, they were not at all ashamed, neither could they blush: therefore shall they fall among them that fall: in the time of their visitation they shall be cast down, saith the Lord.

13 I will surely consume them, saith the Lord: there shall be no grapes on the vine, nor figs on the fig tree, and the leaf shall fade; and the things that I have given them shall pass away from them.

14 Why do we sit still? assemble yourselves, and let us enter into the defenced cities, and let us be silent there: for the Lord our God hath put us to silence, and given us water of gall to drink, because we have sinned against the Lord.

15 We looked for peace, but no good came; and for a time of health, and behold trouble!

16 The snorting of his horses was heard from Dan: the whole land trembled at the sound of the neighing of his strong ones; for they are come, and have devoured the land, and all that is in it; the city, and those that dwell therein.

17 For, behold, I will send serpents, cockatrices, among you, which will not be charmed, and they shall bite you, saith the Lord.

18 When I would comfort myself against sorrow, my heart is faint in me.

19 Behold the voice of the cry of the daughter of my people because of them that dwell in a far country: Is not the Lord in Zion? is not her king in her? Why have they provoked me to anger with their graven images, and with strange vanities?

20 The harvest is past, the summer is ended, and we are not saved.

21 For the hurt of the daughter of my people am I hurt; I am black; astonishment hath taken hold on me.

22 Is there no balm in Gilead; is there no physician there? why then is not the health of the daughter of my people recovered?

  1. What is the meaning of Time? Time is God’s love and patience. If you havent repented, change your ways, and most of all if you are not saved by baptism and the accepting of Jesus, i beg you to get with the Times. It is said that a point and time will come when we all will be held accountable. Dont let the Time pass you by.

  2. 20 The harvest is past, the summer is ended, and we are not saved.

    TIME TO REPENT

These words are scary, [The harvest is past] It is time we put forth every effort to make things right with God. It is Time to Repent. If we have not got forgiveness of our sins it is time we do.
Something so simple, but people make it so complicated. This is not complicated at all, if we will repent God will forgive. He is a God that wants to forgive, but he wants us to REPENT. Ask him for forgiveness in transgressing his law, doing things we have no business doing. We need to live in peace with our neighbors.

22 Is there no balm in Gilead; is there no physician there? why then is not the health of the daughter of my people recovered?

There is balm in Gilead, there is a physician here. Yes we can get forgiveness, our health restored, but we need to return to the Physician. Jesus Christ will bless if we will step forward. Yes we can be filled with the Holy Ghost today if we follow the word that leads us to God.
    See Acts 2:38
    1. REPENT
    2. BAPTISM IN THE NAME OF JESUS CHRIST
    3. FILLED WITH THE GIFT OF THE HOLY GHOST
    4. LIVE A GOD FILLED LIFE, SHOW GOD’S LOVE TO THE WORLD

Not a new bible study just the same old message!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  3. 14 Why do we sit still? assemble yourselves, and let us enter into the defenced cities, and let us be silent there: for the Lord our God hath put us to silence, and given us water of gall to drink, because we have sinned against the Lord.

Sin will always leave the bitter taste of gall in our mouth, but if we obey His Word, it will leave us with a sweet aftertaste.

    Psalm 119:103 KJV
[103] How sweet are thy words unto my taste! yea, sweeter than honey to my mouth!

  4. 12 Are they ashamed of their detestable conduct?
        No, they have no shame at all;
they do not even know how to blush.
    So they will fall among the fallen;
they will be brought down when they are punished,
    says the Lord. NIV

We need to watch ourselves in verse 7-8 it was saying how they lived in a way it seemed they had forgotten judgment day was still going to happen. Even now some people still do.. We need to watch and make sure we will not be one of those who fall among the fallen.

  5. We must remain humble and repentant before the Lord or we will become so used to our sin that we no longer realize it exist. God will surely judge us for it. It is time to repent and live holy.

    • REPENT!
6 I hearkened and heard, but they spake not aright: no man repented him of his wickedness, saying, What have I done? every one turned to his course, as the horse rusheth into the battle.
Why would no one turn? Why was no one sorry? They were not sensitive to God because they had self on their throne. Self = pride. When you allow selfishness and pride to rule your life you don’t care, eve. When you are going to fight a battle or even loose your life. You feel justified in doing what you want. When Jedus is on the throne of your life you are more receptive to his spirit and messages.
      REPENT!

  6. 19 Behold the voice of the cry of the daughter of my people because of them that dwell in a far country: Is not the Lord in Zion? is not her king in her? Why have they provoked me to anger with their graven images, and with strange vanities?

As we prepare for the new season of our church, we must realize that God is calling us to a deeper, more responsible level in Him. We have been taught not to do this or that. We even have scripture to back it up. The Word of God is alive and is the Living Manuel to this earth for living for God. I for one do not want to provoke God to anger in this last day. My prayer is that we would stay focused on the task at hand.

  7. Vs.19, “Behold the voice of the cry of the daughter of my people because of them that dwell in a far country: Is not the LORD in Zion? is not her king in her? Why have they provoked me to anger with their graven images, and with strange vanities?”
Vs. 20, “The harvest is past, the summer is ended, and we are not saved.”

This made me think of story of the 10 virgins in Matt. 25:7-13. 5 were wise and 5 were foolish. 5 of them had trimmed and filled their lamps and were ready for the bridegroom to come to take them to the marriage. 5 of them were not ready and went looking for oil for their lamps, so, when the bridegroom came, they were left out. When they came back andcried out, Lord, Lord, open to us, he said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not. (We only have 1 chance to make it.)
Vs.13 says, “Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh.”

Let us Repent of the things that provoke God to be angry with us. Let us Repent of the things we have put in our lives before God. Let us Repent of our vanities and pride.

NOW it is time to Repent !
NOW it is time to be Saved !
NOW is the day of Salvation !

Romans 13:11 says, “And that, knowing the time, that NOW it is high time to awake out of sleep: for NOW is our salvation nearer than when we believed.”

2 Cor. 6:2a says, “… behold, NOW is the accepted time; behold, NOW is the day of salvation.”

Let’s be ready when JESUS comes!

  8. Keep your nose clean!!!!!

20 The harvest is past, the summer is ended, and we are not saved.

We are growing spiritually, moving forward to something bigger, with bigger blessings, miracles, signs, and wonders. Therefore, we must be prepared for it. We must take a good look at ourselves in the mirror, inspect ourselves thoroughly, and if there is any wrong we must repent. Why?? Because unrighteousness made Jerusalem lose their blessings, lose the harvest, and lose their season. It is very important for us to reach the goals appointed by God, to keep ourselves clean so we may not lose our heavenly harvest, so our season will not just pass us by with no gains, and to keep salvation close to our hearts. As we began our fast please don’t let it be just a time without any food, but pray, lets look deep into ourselves, search, and repent for our Bridegroom is coming for a spotless Bride. Make your tent ready to receive HIM.

  9. Plan like you’ll live forever but live for today.
No man is promised tomorrow and with that we are expected to live a life that is acceptable to God and His word. In each day we should live as though its our last. Forgive the trespasser, befriend the enemy, and help the lost. It’s our daily duty to worship and bring His hurting lost children to salvation!

Thank you Jesus for your word before my day!! I’m taking you down devil!

  10. 12 Were they ashamed when they had committed abomination? nay, they were not at all ashamed, neither could they blush: therefore shall they fall among them that fall: in the time of their visitation they shall be cast down, saith the Lord.

  11. Verses 4-6 CEV ““Tell them this, God’s Message: “‘Do people fall down and not get up? Or take the wrong road and then just keep going? So why does this people go backward, and just keep on going—backward! They stubbornly hold on to their illusions, refuse to change direction. I listened carefully but heard not so much as a whisper. No one expressed one word of regret. Not a single “I’m sorry” did I hear. They just kept at it, blindly and stupidly banging their heads against a brick wall.”

Many are still banging their heads because of stubbornness and rebellion. They are only sorry that they got caught; not because they are truly sorry for their sin. We have all stumbled; the difference is some have truly repented and others are still going backwards rather than forward because they refuse….yes refuse, to let go of that illusion that is dragging them down the wrong path. It is our job (duty) to pray for them, lead them back and receive them without question.

  12. “The harvest is finished, and the summer is gone,” the people cry, “yet we are not saved!” I hurt with the hurt of my people. I mourn and am overcome with grief. Is there no medicine in Gilead? Is there no physician there? Why is there no healing for the wounds of my people? (Jeremiah 8:20-22 NLT)

  13. When people fall or realize that they are headed in the wrong direction, it only makes sense for them to get up or change directions. God watched the nation, he saw the people living sinful lives by choice, deceiving themselves that there would be no consequences. They had lost perspective concerning God’s will for their lives and were trying to minimize their sin.

  14. THE REALITY OF RESPONSIBILITY

22 Is there no balm in Gilead; is there no physician there? why then is not the health of the daughter of my people recovered?

When we look at the lives of people that have come in contact with JESUS we must take a sincere honest look at where we are and what we are doing to facilitate the healing that is promised by the LORD our GOD. It is convenient to lay responsibility on the hurting individual; saying that they are just not interested and dont want it. Occassionally this may be true.

However in Jeremiah 8 we find the indictment on the children of the LORD. The 2 refrences in verse 22 indicate that something was availvable, but not administered. A balm is a soothing ointment, a physician is an administer of medicine. The church has constant access to both of these. The balm is JESUS and the physician is JESUS. The problem identified here is that prayer and worship were absent and therefore there was no oil and no power to heal.

THE REALITY OF RESPONSIBILITY is that we are the balm and physicians that administer health and assist the hurting in recovery. It is obvious that distractions through idolatry and selfishness had caused them to miss their time of GOD’s provision and favor. It is my prayer today that we all recognize the time and season that we are living in that the same judgment will be executed by the LORD on those who fail to hear, honor and obey.

  15. WORKERS OF INIQUITY

20 The harvest is past, the summer is ended, and we are not saved.

JESUS declares the HARVEST and HE said the fields are white already to harvest. We MUST be active in gathering the HARVEST. Bringing people to JESUS through prayer, fasting, and faith reaching, If we are not working for the HARVEST of the LORD what is our hope in the end?

The answer is above in verse 20.

JESUS warns us in Matthew 7 that FRUIT is what HE is looking for. For anyone that does not bear HIS fruit are WORKERS OF INIQUITY

Matthew 7:17 Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.

18 A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.

19 Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.

20 Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.

21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.

22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?

23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

Repent today and work today for the night is coming when no man shall work.

  16. We find in this chapter the cry from the heart of God for those who have chosen a path in life that brings pleasure to them, instead of following the path that God desires for them. His grace is very evident, that at the slightest sign of repentance He would have shown mercy and drawed them back into His presence to walk with him. Yet deception held them to the place where they were. He comes to inspect the fruit of their lives, and finds no fruit evident.

It is sad when people walk away from what they know as truth for a better way but it truly is the wrong path. The bible says you shall know a tree by it’s fruit. The fruit of the backslidder is carnal fruit, temporal fruit, fruit that pleases their own flesh but in the end when the inspector, God himself, comes to reckon with them, they will find that their fruit is spoiled and will have nothing to offer him.

We must keep our eyes on Jesus, don’t allow distractions that would lead down the path of deception to have any hold on us. Our fruit must remain true, holy, righteous so that when the inspector comes we have something to offer Him.

  17. Let us REPENT of ” E V E R Y T H I NG”
    Every thought
    Every action
    Every word and more…..
    — yesterday has past…
    Tomorrow might never come …
But TODAY, is here, let us make it right, let us forgive and let GOD be GOD, let us humble in his presence and recognized that WE ALL NEED HIM to rule in our lives and without HIM hmmm? There is NO hope.
    In JESUS name amen!

  18. “Jeremiah, say to the people, ‘This is what the Lord says: “‘When people fall down, don’t they get up again? When they discover they’re on the wrong road, don’t they turn back? Then why do these people stay on their self-destructive path? Why do the people of Jerusalem refuse to turn back? They cling tightly to their lies and will not turn around. “‘How can you say, “We are wise because we have the word of the Lord,” when your teachers have twisted it by writing lies? These wise teachers will fall into the trap of their own foolishness, for they have rejected the word of the Lord. Are they so wise after all? (Jeremiah 8:4, 5, 8, 9 NLT)

We need to check the fruits of those who teach us because we can’t afford to be deceived. We must allow teachers of the truth into our lives and give them permission to instruct us.

    Be teachable

  19. 9 The wise men are ashamed, they are dismayed and taken: lo, they have rejected the word of the Lord; and what wisdom is in them?
God have mercy on our soul the day we think we don’t have to have the word of The Lord and a shepherd to watch over our soul. God help us not to reject his word but when we go against the church and leaders and pastor we are rejecting the word. God put a pastor in our life to guide us.

  20. 1 At that time, saith the Lord, they shall bring out the bones of the kings of Judah, and the bones of his princes, and the bones of the priests, and the bones of the prophets, and the bones of the inhabitants of Jerusalem, out of their graves:

2 And they shall spread them before the sun, and the moon, and all the host of heaven, whom they have loved, and whom they have served, and after whom they have walked, and whom they have sought, and whom they have worshipped: they shall not be gathered, nor be buried; they shall be for dung upon the face of the earth.

Our stature in life profits us nothing. The things of this world are but a vapor and will one day be no more. Our lives will come to an end.
    Genesis 3:19
19 In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken:for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.
Our only hope in this life is the one true living God. These verses speak of royalty and high positioned people who’s service and worship was turned to the wrong thing. They forsook the truth for something they could see. They worshiped the created rather than the creator. They put their trust, hope, and faith in something other than God and in the end there was no hope left for them. Their gods could not save them. There was no life left in them.

As born again believers we have a new stature in life. We are royalty and a priesthood.
    1 Peter 2:9
But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:

But if we turn our affections to these things of this world and forsake God then we are no better than those in this verse. But as long as we are able to reexamine our lives, repent where we have gone astray, and love God then in the end our hope will not end with our deaths. The life within our bones, the Holy Ghost, will take us to an eternal life.

  21. 8 How do ye say, We are wise, and the law of the Lord is with us? Lo, certainly in vain made he it; the pen of the scribes is in vain.

  22. 20 The harvest is past, the summer is ended, and we are not saved.

    Colossians 4:5
5 Walk in wisdom toward them that are without, redeeming the time.

Seasons are vital. In the kingdom of God we must recognize where we are to understand what we are to do.

We are in a season of harvest as buses are growing and Sunday schools are filling up. Yet if we do not take it upon ourselves to capitalize on the season the harvest may be lost.

Let it not be said of us it has come and gone and none are saved.

  23. This chapter illustrates delusion. They believed they were right. One must seek God (Jesus), heed the word of God, and listen to the man of God, elsewise delusion can overcome one; “And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie”. What a mighty God we serve! May the good Lord

  24. iLove to eat the Word

“These are the Ones to Watch Out For”

I hearkened and heard, but they spake not aright: no man repented him of his wickedness, saying, What have I done? every one turned to his course, as the horse rusheth into the battle.

When you explain to someone how things could have been handled differently and they say, “what did I do…” It might be a long night.

  25. 5 Why then is this people of Jerusalem slidden back by a perpetual backsliding? they hold fast deceit, they refuse to return.

How nany people are in a backsliden mode and don’t even realize it. The enemy loves to see a child of God in danger and the child not even know it. We must stay in tune with God, so that we realize when we’re going down the wrong path.

  26. 5 Why then is this people of Jerusalem slidden back by a perpetual backsliding? they hold fast deceit, they refuse to return.

6 I hearkened and heard, but they spake not aright: no man repented him of his wickedness, saying, What have I done? every one turned to his course, as the horse rusheth into the battle.

    What Love is this?
All the Lord wants is for people to come to repentance… He truly is a good God. He already gave himself as ransom. Salvation has been pain. It is just there to take a hold off. I can almost hear the Lord scream; I want to bless you! Just say the word asking for forgiveness. My ear is attentive but you people will not even speak, much less acknowledge… And instead everyone running after their own lusts. God really wants to bless and He loves the backsliders all He wants is for them to repent from their wicked ways… Just say the words and turn around from a path of death. Repentance…
This is the kind of love that only God can show.

    2 Peter 3:9
The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us,[b] not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.

  27. Hope

15 We looked for peace, but no good came; and for a time of health, and behold trouble!

With failed expectations it would be easy to toss aside faith and act on perception. Many become wounded through one situation or another and choose to allow perception to dictate their future decisions: “You hurt me? Well then I’ll just harden my heart and get bitter because I won’t let you make a fool out of me again.”

8 How do ye say, We are wise, and the law of the Lord is with us? Lo, certainly in vain made he it; the pen of the scribes is in vain.

It’s not enough to be faithful to hearing the Word, we must let it live through us. When our perception and emotions scream one thing, we must put our hope in God to not waver from acting according to His truth.

11 For they have healed the hurt of the daughter of my people slightly, saying, Peace, peace; when there is no peace.

There’s a temporary peace that comes with acting on perception, but it is brief and leaves you hungry for more. You get caught up in chasing that temporary high of carnal validation for acting on perception; the bitterness must go deeper, the heart must get harder, the walls must go higher…

    Psalms 42:5-6
5 Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted in me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him for the help of his countenance. 6 O my God, my soul is cast down within me: therefore will I remember thee from the land of Jordan, and of the Hermonites, from the hill Mizar.

    Psalms 78:5-8
5 For he established a testimony in Jacob, and appointed a law in Israel, which he commanded our fathers, that they should make them known to their children: 6 That the generation to come might know them, even the children which should be born; who should arise and declare them to their children: 7 That they might set their hope in God, and not forget the works of God, but keep his commandments: 8 And might not be as their fathers, a stubborn and rebellious generation; a generation that set not their heart aright, and whose spirit was not stedfast with God.

    Titus 1:1-3
    1 Paul, a servant of God, and an apostle of Jesus Christ, according to the faith of God’s elect, and the acknowledging of the truth which is after godliness; 2 In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began; 3 But hath in due times manifested his word through preaching, which is committed unto me according to the commandment of God our Saviour;

At some point, we must set the landmark and testimony that God is true and cannot lie, that no matter how we feel or what we perceive, we can trust in Him. When our hope is rooted in Christ and character, we have a firm foundation through every storm and can begin to experience true peace.

    Romans 15:13
Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.

  28. God questions backsliding.

God scratches his head when you turn from him. It blows his mind how you can be so ignorant and or stupid to walk away from someone so perfect. It is offensive. The Almighty self sufficient God who is just and full of love calls us out of darkness and in our lack of his character we fall into sin. Then, our pride may cause us not to repent and we backslide. It blows Gods mind.

Not a single one of us would walk away from a billion dollars if someone gave it to us. Yet we will walk away from God and his mercy. It is worth more than any amount of money that has ever existed. We need to readjust our priorities.

  29. Need Directions?

The people keep turning away from God, heading quickly in the wrong direction toward deeper sinfulness. Instead of seeking or changing direction, they totally lose perspective on following God’s will. The leaders twist the law to suit themselves, rationalizing behavior (vs 8) that is even horrifying to God for “they cling to deceit they refuse to return” (vs5). God points out that even migrating wild birds know when and where to fly, but His people fly in the opposite direction, ignoring the course God has given them. Because His people won’t turn back to Him, He makes Jeremiah the mediator, and he cries out in anguish as he watches his people rebel against God. The saddened prophet laments their wickedness and weeps for their upcoming destruction. The Hebrew meaning for ‘faint’ reveals that Jeremiah is severly or loathsomely ill with grief. Yet in his heartache, Jeremiah boldy calls God his “Comforter in sorrow”. Though God must pronounce judgment, the Comforter still compassionately longs for His people. The words of Jeremiah, who is the predecessor of Isaiah, confirms God’s desire to show compassion to His disobedient children (Isa 51:3; 57:18). Even when God’s people disappoint Him with their selfish ways, “the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort” (2Co 1:3) wants to embrace and restore us to Himself.

  30. Healing Balm

22 Is there no balm in Gilead; is there no physician there? why then is not the health of the daughter of my people recovered?

Gilead is the mountanious country north of the Dead Sea. The region is covered with numerous springs and shrubs and produces balsam trees with an intensely fragrant resin extract. It’s likely this bushy evergreen tree, native to Arabia, is the source of this medicinal balm refered to in this verse. People crush the plants’ leaves, berries and bark to extract a pale yellow gum, which is them mixed with water and made into an ointment. The Bible first mentions this balm of Gilead in Genesis 37:25 and later here in Jeremiah this balm symbolizes spiritual healing. Judah’s people suffer from severe sickness of the soul. God offers a cure, but they refuse to accept it. Today God offers us Jesus, Himself, the Great Physician, who took 39 stripes upon His back symbolizing the 39 deadly diseases, which by His stripes we are healed. Because He shead His blood for our sins we are offered the opportunity to turn away from them and find healing in His Blood, and spiritually with His Spirit. He is the cure for any of our spiritual ailments (Mk 2:17).
