Jeremiah 11

1 The word that came to Jeremiah from the Lord saying,

Hear ye the words of this covenant, and speak unto the men of Judah, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem;

And say thou unto them, Thus saith the Lord God of Israel; Cursed be the man that obeyeth not the words of this covenant,

Which I commanded your fathers in the day that I brought them forth out of the land of Egypt, from the iron furnace, saying, Obey my voice, and do them, according to all which I command you: so shall ye be my people, and I will be your God:

That I may perform the oath which I have sworn unto your fathers, to give them a land flowing with milk and honey, as it is this day. Then answered I, and said, So be it, O Lord.

Then the Lord said unto me, Proclaim all these words in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem, saying, Hear ye the words of this covenant, and do them.

For I earnestly protested unto your fathers in the day that I brought them up out of the land of Egypt, even unto this day, rising early and protesting, saying, Obey my voice.

Yet they obeyed not, nor inclined their ear, but walked every one in the imagination of their evil heart: therefore I will bring upon them all the words of this covenant, which I commanded them to do: but they did them not.

And the Lord said unto me, A conspiracy is found among the men of Judah, and among the inhabitants of Jerusalem.

10 They are turned back to the iniquities of their forefathers, which refused to hear my words; and they went after other gods to serve them: the house of Israel and the house of Judah have broken my covenant which I made with their fathers.

11 Therefore thus saith the Lord, Behold, I will bring evil upon them, which they shall not be able to escape; and though they shall cry unto me, I will not hearken unto them.

12 Then shall the cities of Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem go, and cry unto the gods unto whom they offer incense: but they shall not save them at all in the time of their trouble.

13 For according to the number of thy cities were thy gods, O Judah; and according to the number of the streets of Jerusalem have ye set up altars to that shameful thing, even altars to burn incense unto Baal.

14 Therefore pray not thou for this people, neither lift up a cry or prayer for them: for I will not hear them in the time that they cry unto me for their trouble.

15 What hath my beloved to do in mine house, seeing she hath wrought lewdness with many, and the holy flesh is passed from thee? when thou doest evil, then thou rejoicest.

16 The Lord called thy name, A green olive tree, fair, and of goodly fruit: with the noise of a great tumult he hath kindled fire upon it, and the branches of it are broken.

17 For the Lord of hosts, that planted thee, hath pronounced evil against thee, for the evil of the house of Israel and of the house of Judah, which they have done against themselves to provoke me to anger in offering incense unto Baal.

18 And the Lord hath given me knowledge of it, and I know it: then thou shewedst me their doings.

19 But I was like a lamb or an ox that is brought to the slaughter; and I knew not that they had devised devices against me, saying, Let us destroy the tree with the fruit thereof, and let us cut him off from the land of the living, that his name may be no more remembered.

20 But, O Lord of hosts, that judgest righteously, that triest the reins and the heart, let me see thy vengeance on them: for unto thee have I revealed my cause.

21 Therefore thus saith the Lord of the men of Anathoth, that seek thy life, saying, Prophesy not in the name of the Lord, that thou die not by our hand:

22 Therefore thus saith the Lord of hosts, Behold, I will punish them: the young men shall die by the sword; their sons and their daughters shall die by famine:

23 And there shall be no remnant of them: for I will bring evil upon the men of Anathoth, even the year of their visitation.

  1. 3 And say thou unto them, Thus saith the Lord God of Israel; Cursed be the man that obeyeth not the words of this covenant,

    BREAKING EVERY CHAIN

In real life breaking every chain is such a task! These people had every chance to break the chains of the past, but this was too much for them. they could leave their past and then drift back into the sample old thing. This scripture teaches us they turned back to the iniquities of their forefathers.
The life of our past family will sometimes haunt us! I have in my life time saw spirits that dwelled in families and generation after generation always dealt with the same problems of rebellion.
Rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft. So worshiping of other God’s is always a problem with people as this is the sin of rebellion.
This is the reason we need to be born again, to get rid of the past.
We are so happy God made it where we could break the chains of the past and live for God in a life of victory.

  3. Verses 4-5 MSG “Obey what I tell you. Do exactly what I command you. Your obedience will close the deal. You’ll be mine and I’ll be yours. This will provide the conditions in which I will be able to do what I promised your ancestors: to give them a fertile and lush land. And, as you know, that’s what I did.’” We humans have such a hard time with this word “obedience” because we see it as having to do what someone else is telling us to do; but, when you give yourself completely to the Lord it isn’t a chore, it’s a given reverence.

The end of verses 11-13 MSG say “….You’ve got as many gods as you have villages, Judah! And you’ve got enough altars for sacrifices to that impotent sex god Baal to put one on every street corner in Jerusalem!” This reminded me of a conversation I had recently with someone very dear to my heart and it burden my soul as she gave me excuse after excuse of why she isn’t going to church like she used to. People can have so many excuses (gods or altars) as to why “they can’t” (which is actually saying refuse) to obey. If your using an excuse (something or someone) as why not to serve or obey, be careful because God may remove your so called excuse.

Deuteronomy 6:5 MSG “Love God, your God, with your whole heart: love him with all that’s in you, love him with all you’ve got!”

  4. No Weapon Formed Against my Pastor shall prosper!!!! Not today, not tomorrow, NEVER!!!!!

Then the Lord told me about the plots my enemies were making against me. I was like a lamb being led to the slaughter. I had no idea that they were planning to kill me! “Let’s destroy this man and all his words,” they said. “Let’s cut him down, so his name will be forgotten forever.” O Lord of Heaven’s Armies, you make righteous judgments, and you examine the deepest thoughts and secrets. Let me see your vengeance against them, for I have committed my cause to you. This is what the Lord says about the men of Anathoth who wanted me dead. They had said, “We will kill you if you do not stop prophesying in the Lord ’s name.” (Jeremiah 11:18-21 NLT)

Keep Preaching TRUTH to me(us), we as a body in Christ Jesus lifts you daily in prayer, pleading the Blood of Jesus over You and Sis. Watts, that His hand will be upon You, and His Angels to protect You from evil!!
Lord continue to strengthen my Pastor and Sis. Watts that they may continue to grow in grace and in the knowledge of You my Lord.
That they will continue until ALL come to the Unity of the faith, and mature and fully grown in Christ Jesus.
I’m blessed to have a pastor that has boldness and isn’t ashamed or fear what others may say!!!!

  5. iLove to eat the Word

“If Ye Love Me, Keep My Commandments”

4 Which I commanded your fathers in the day that I brought them forth out of the land of Egypt, from the iron furnace, saying, Obey my voice, and do them, according to all which I command you: so shall ye be my people, and I will be your God:

(John 14:15 KJV) If ye love me, keep my commandments.

(John 14:21 KJV) He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.

(John 14:24 KJV) He that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings: and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father’s which sent me

Obedience is the key to knowing if you Love Jesus or not.

Faith is the substance…Faith in action paves the road

  6. This whole chapter is about covenant, or keeping your word. God is serious about what we commit to. It is very simple… If you commit to something, DO IT.

I’ve been right in the middle Of something I’ve committed to before and the person that I committed to came and released me from the burden. WHY?
They saw me giving everything that I had to fulfill that commitment and they realized that I was going to work myself to death before I gave up on it.

God sees our hard work. He knows our heart. He loves us and he won’t let us get in over our heads. We just have to put our hands to the plow and not look back. He will meet us on the road somewhere and tell us to rest.

  7. 9 And the Lord said unto me, A conspiracy is found among the men of Judah, and among the inhabitants of Jerusalem.

Who would talk about God badly? We do. By our actions, words, and how we act. We say that we’re Christian’s and yet we are the first ones to have a bad attitude. If we are the light to this world ,than don’t we need to be Christ like? Yes we need to be passionate for what we believe and stand up for it. We also need to realize that Jesus ate with the “regular” people of his time. Why do we think that we are “all that?” God is the giver of life, so let us be the light that God can use to reach our city.

  8. ONE STORM AWAY FROM DESTRUCTION

As read this passage today I saw a thriving, growing, producing tree that GOD had BLESSED, suddenly destroyed by a storm as a result of rebellion and idolatry. Teaching us to not become comfortable or lazy in our praise, prayer, giving, or reaching.

The LORD planted The POFW for HIS glory and if we ever fail to OBEY him or if we place other idols (projects, people or places) above or before HIM. One STORM from HIM will destroy us.

***I feel a STRONG warning for some people today……

Child of GOD do not become comfortable in your deceptive ways; we are all ONE STORM AWAY FROM DESTRUCTION.

We must daily humble ourselves in prayer, submit ourselves to GOD, HIS WORD and HIS MESSENGER.

***Do NOT let it be said that “was” a great Church or they “were” a great Minister.

Regardless of how flourishing we may be, though the LORD planted us, if we fail to HONOR and OBEY we are living our lives ONE STORM AWAY FROM DESTRUCTION.

    iRepent
    iPraise
    iPray
    iWork
    iGive
    iReap
    iGoHOME

    • How true a statement!! I have saw a lot of Old Saints not end well and many preachers fall into false doctrine!
      AMEN!!!!!
How we handle a storm tells what our character really is.

  9. The tragedy of a broken covenant is found in this chapter. Israel had no regard for the covenant they had made with the Lord and choose to walk in the imaginations of their own heart and did evil. They lost all opportunities for the Lord to hear their cry.

Many times the situations that we are in is because we have broken covenant with the Lord and have walked in our own ways and done evil in the sight of the Lord instead of keeping His commandments.

Proverbs 14:12 There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.

  10. Word of caution to parents!!!!!!!!!!

10 They are turned back to the iniquities of their forefathers, which refused to hear my words; and they went after other gods to serve them: the house of Israel and the house of Judah have broken my covenant which I made with their fathers.

My mom used to tell me “do as I say not as I do”. What parents seldom understand is that children learn from the examples of their parents. They observe everything and apply it to their lives. You may correct them all you want but until you correct your own lives they will continue to make your mistakes over and over again. If you look at society, many children of parents that are in the government assistance or benefits programs continue that same type of life when they grow up. Why? Because they did not learn that you must earn what you want. They did not see a parent getting up early to go to work, they learned that if I do this and fill this out the government has a system that will take care of me. In the same manner, our children learn our sins, yes those continual sins that reoccurred in our lives, those bad habits, our children learn them because they see them daily in our lives. So what can we do to break the chains or bondage of our forefathers sins? REPENT!!!! Literally means to turn around, go on the opposite direction of where they were headed. Return to the Lord and don’t look back. Give a new example for our children, teach them His covenant, teach them His love, and do it daily until is embedded in their blood and soul. Lets create a new tradition, and let us teach them positive habits of HIS love. Let us teach them about HIS SALVATION!!!!!

  11. 5 That I may perform the oath which I have sworn unto your fathers, to give them a land flowing with milk and honey, as it is this day. Then answered I, and said, So be it, O Lord.

  12. That I may perform the oath which I have sworn unto your fathers, to give them a land flowing with milk and honey, as it is this day. Then answered I, and said, So be it, O Lord.

  13. Vs. 10-11, “They are turned back to the iniquities of their forefathers, which refused to hear my words; and they went after other gods to serve them: the house of Israel and the house of Judah have broken my covenant which I made with their fathers. Therefore thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will bring evil upon them, which they shall not be able to escape; and though they shall cry unto me, I will not hearken unto them.”

Question – Ever wonder why God doesn’t hear and answer your prayer?
    Answer – SIN

When there is sin in our life, God will not hear or answer our prayer. Ps.66:18 says, “If I reguard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me.”

The solution is to Repent, cleanse your hands, purify your heart, and humble yourself in the sight of God. James 4:8-10 says, “Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners, and purify your hearts, ye double minded. Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned into mourning, and your joy to heaviness. Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.”

Let us cleanse our hearts from sin that God will hear our prayers.

  14. 2 Hear ye the words of this covenant, and speak unto the men of Judah, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem;

3 And say thou unto them, Thus saith the Lord God of Israel; Cursed be the man that obeyeth not the words of this covenant,

4 Which I commanded your fathers in the day that I brought them forth out of the land of Egypt, from the iron furnace, saying, Obey my voice, and do them, according to all which I command you: so shall ye be my people, and I will be your God:

    The price to obey..
The word says that obedience is better than sacrifice. What are some of the results of obeying and being disobedient? In here we see some of the consequences and the word used is “cursed” for disobedience…
Here is just something to consider. The rewards of obedience are these:

Deuteronomy 28:1-13 And it shall come to pass, if thou shalt hearken diligently unto the voice of the Lord thy God, to observe and to do all his commandments which I command thee this day, that the Lord thy God will set thee on high above all nations of the earth: And all these blessings shall come on thee, and overtake thee, if thou shalt hearken unto the voice of the Lord thy God. Blessed shalt thou be in the city, and blessed shalt thou be in the field. Blessed shall be the fruit of thy body, and the fruit of thy ground, and the fruit of thy cattle, the increase of thy kine, and the flocks of thy sheep. Blessed shall be thy basket and thy store. Blessed shalt thou be when thou comest in, and blessed shalt thou be when thou goest out. The Lord shall cause thine enemies that rise up against thee to be smitten before thy face: they shall come out against thee one way, and flee before thee seven ways. The Lord shall command the blessing upon thee in thy storehouses, and in all that thou settest thine hand unto; and he shall bless thee in the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee. The Lord shall establish thee an holy people unto himself, as he hath sworn unto thee, if thou shalt keep the commandments of the Lord thy God, and walk in his ways. And all people of the earth shall see that thou art called by the name of the Lord; and they shall be afraid of thee. And the Lord shall make thee plenteous in goods, in the fruit of thy body, and in the fruit of thy cattle, and in the fruit of thy ground, in the land which the Lord sware unto thy fathers to give thee. The Lord shall open unto thee his good treasure, the heaven to give the rain unto thy land in his season, and to bless all the work of thine hand: and thou shalt lend unto many nations, and thou shalt not borrow. And the Lord shall make thee the head, and not the tail; and thou shalt be above only, and thou shalt not be beneath; if that thou hearken unto the commandments of the Lord thy God, which I command thee this day, to observe and to do them:

And the curse for not being obedient is the total opposite..

From verse 15 of deuteronomy to verse 68 are all the consequences and curse and distruction that shall fall on those who are disobedient.

I’ve heard it preached once; “Choose to sin, choose to suffer.”
    It’s a matter of choice

  15. Drawing the Line

14 Therefore pray not thou for this people, neither lift up a cry or prayer for them: for I will not hear them in the time that they cry unto me for their trouble.

At first read, this verse sounds like an outrageous action by God. How could God tell Jeremaih not to intercede for the people? Why wouldn’t God listen to their cries of distress? After all, He listened to Moses petitions for the Israelites when the sinned (Ex 32:11-14; Nu 14:11-20). But as Moses and Jeremiah learned, God does draw the line concerning sin. Rebellion reaps consequences. When God’s people refuse to repent and turn from their defiant ways to a holy God, He gives them their bitter reward. Fortunately, The Lord is slow to anger, abounding in love and forgiving sinand rebellion” (Nu 14:18), but that does not give his people license to blatantly disobey Him. As Judah finds out, their sin eventually catches up with them, and God refuses to listen to their cries. Its one thing to sin against God’s holiness, it’s quite another to sin against His authority. He will draw the line, we need to continually check our relationships with God to make certain which side of the line we are on.

  16. Jeremiah’s hometown was plotting to kill him. They wanted to silence his message for several reasons: economic, religious, political, and personal.

economic – his condemnation of idol worship would hurt the business of the idol makers

religious – he was preaching a message not of do whatever you want and it will be ok; he was telling them what was really to come of them

political – he openly rebuked their hypocritical politics

personal – they hated him for showing them that they were wrong

Jeremiah had two options here to run and hide or to call on God. Jeremiah called on God and he answered. Like Jeremiah we can either run and hide or call on God for help. When we hide it compromises our message and calling on God lets him reinforce it.

  17. Preach IT!

    Jeremiah 11:21
Therefore thus saith the Lord of the men of Anathoth, that seek thy life, saying, Prophesy not in the name of the Lord, that thou die not by our hand:

They had religion. Everywhere was a shrine to a false God. The demonic had many deceived. Yet the were after the man of God.

Jeremiah, the weeping prophet cried out for the people to repent, and they sadly refused. God sent warning after warning, but they still wouldn’t listen.

Instead of truth that wanted pleasure, to feel good, and have their ears itched.

Today we face a similar issue.

    2 Timothy 4:3
    For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;

The message version says it like this.

    2 Timothy 4:3-4
You’re going to find that there will be times when people will have no stomach for solid teaching, but will fill up on spiritual junk food– catchy opinions that tickle their fancy. They’ll turn their backs on truth and chase mirages.

I can feel it rising up in me. Preach to me Preacher! Don’t soften it, or make me feel good my soul is on the line. My eternity is at stake, and my family depend on it.

Thank God for real preaching. Convicting, straight forward, anointed, and unadulterated.

We will one day have to stand up for truth. Let me take that back. Today is the day we need to stand up for truth and loudly proclaim we are not ashamed of the gospel of Christ for it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone who believes. Romans 1:16

    Can I get an amen?

    1 Peter 3:15
15 But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts:and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:

We preach two ways. One by the spoken word, and the other by our lives. Our life, our epistle read of all men must line up with the word of God.

  18. 3 And say thou unto them, Thus saith the Lord God of Israel; Cursed be the man that obeyeth not the words of this covenant,

Blessings come to those who obey the word of the Lord. Being cursed comes with disobedience. Choose wisely and don’t be deceived.

  19. Disobedience to God’s word can only have one result: death and destruction to our souls. Obedience is better than sacrifice. We should never return to where God brought us from but press on toward that calling and mark that he has set before us.

  20. This chapter illustrates time. They were passing the time that was allotted to repent, and cry out to God (Jesus) for forgiveness of their sins. One would be wise to take heed, and open one’s eyes too the time; “For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables”. What a mighty God we serve! May the good Lord Bless you all in Jesus name, Amen

  21. We show God through the way we live. Why would we want to show them anger, bitter, pride, unforgivness, etc. Through us we bring people to God and they won’t want to come if they’re shown feelings they can feel in the world. We should be able to show them what God can do for them! Let us be church!!

  22. Prayer
7 For I earnestly protested unto your fathers in the day that I brought them up out of the land of Egypt, even unto this day, rising early and protesting, saying, Obey my voice. 8 Yet they obeyed not, nor inclined their ear, but walked every one in the imagination of their evil heart: therefore I will bring upon them all the words of this covenant, which I commanded them to do: but they did them not.
It has been my prayer for a while that the people of PoFW would hear the voice of The Lord. In hearing that we would not just hear, but then become HIS hands and feet as we carry out his will.

  23. 6 Then the Lord said unto me, Proclaim all these words in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem, saying, Hear ye the words of this covenant, and do them.

Let us continue to proclaim the word of The Lord. No matter what comes or goes. No matter who’s in or out. Who’s up or down. Preach the word be instant in and out of season. Because our city needs to hear the words of his covenant.

    Repent!
Be Baptized in the name of Jesus!
Be filled with the Holy Ghost!

  24. They are turned back to the iniquities of their

    10

forefathers, which refused to hear my words; and they went after other gods to serve them: the house of Israel and the house of Judah have broken my covenant which I made with their fathers.

Therefore thus saith the Lord, Behold, I will

    11

bring evil upon them, which they shall not be able to escape; and though they shall cry unto me, I will not hearken unto them.
the judgment of God is a scary thing… it is hard for me to imagine calling on God and him not hearing. but that is just what he said he would do to these people. we should keep our hearts and our ears open to God lest we face the same judgment that these faced. our hearts should cry ” speak Lord your servant heareth”

  25. Relationship

4 Which I commanded your fathers in the day that I brought them forth out of the land of Egypt, from the iron furnace, saying, Obey my voice, and do them, according to all which I command you: so shall ye be my people, and I will be your God:

    1 John 5:2-3
2 By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments. 3 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.

The heartbeat of God is relationship with us:

    Romans 5:8
But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

It reminds me of a quote: “You are loved more than you will ever know, by Someone who died to know you.” While we were yet so unlovable, Christ died to pull us from the iron furnace of sin. He is not some cruel slavedriver looking to control us and withhold His love and threaten us with hell if we don’t measure up. Hell is very real, but so is His amazing, extravagant love.

Whenever things get rough, examine the love-flow. If you aren’t operating through the Love of God, living for Him will not really be about Him but will be more about rules and control and trying to be “good enough.” It’s His love that starts it all:

    1 John 4:19
We love him, because he first loved us.

  26. Jer 11:4 Which I commanded your fathers in the day that I brought them forth out of the land of Egypt, from the iron furnace, saying, Obey my voice, and do them, according to all which I command you: so shall ye be my people, and I will be your God:
Jer 11:7 For I earnestly protested unto your fathers in the day that I brought them up out of the land of Egypt, even unto this day, rising early and protesting, saying, Obey my voice.

He is warning us to obey his voice. He used the Man of God to warn his people. These people being warned, were covenant breakers. The Lord demanded there Obedience but they continued to serve idols. Where there is sin God can’t be.

  27. 22 Therefore thus saith the Lord of hosts, Behold, I will punish them: the young men shall die by the sword; their sons and their daughters shall die by famine:

The people didn’t want to be told they were living in sin and when they threatened the prophet, God was fixing to step in and destroy. We must take care of what we say about Pastor and our leadership. We must stay in unity with the man God put in our lives so that we may be right with God.

  28. V 14
    The unanswered prayer.

Therefore pray not thou for this people , neither lift up a cry or prayer for them: for I will not hear them in the time that they cry unto me for their trouble .
    NET
So, Jeremiah, do not pray for these people. Do not cry out to me or petition me on their behalf. Do not plead with me to save them. For I will not listen to them when they call out to me for help when disaster strikes them.”

Seek The Lord while he may be found. There is a point of no return. We need to keep that in mind. Don’t take Gods grace for granted. He can turn people over to a reprobate mind any second.

Thank you Jesus for your mercy and grace on me. Blessed be your name forever.
