Jeremiah 12

1 Righteous art thou, O Lord, when I plead with thee: yet let me talk with thee of thy judgments: Wherefore doth the way of the wicked prosper? wherefore are all they happy that deal very treacherously?

Thou hast planted them, yea, they have taken root: they grow, yea, they bring forth fruit: thou art near in their mouth, and far from their reins.

But thou, O Lord, knowest me: thou hast seen me, and tried mine heart toward thee: pull them out like sheep for the slaughter, and prepare them for the day of slaughter.

How long shall the land mourn, and the herbs of every field wither, for the wickedness of them that dwell therein? the beasts are consumed, and the birds; because they said, He shall not see our last end.

If thou hast run with the footmen, and they have wearied thee, then how canst thou contend with horses? and if in the land of peace, wherein thou trustedst, they wearied thee, then how wilt thou do in the swelling of Jordan?

For even thy brethren, and the house of thy father, even they have dealt treacherously with thee; yea, they have called a multitude after thee: believe them not, though they speak fair words unto thee.

I have forsaken mine house, I have left mine heritage; I have given the dearly beloved of my soul into the hand of her enemies.

Mine heritage is unto me as a lion in the forest; it crieth out against me: therefore have I hated it.

Mine heritage is unto me as a speckled bird, the birds round about are against her; come ye, assemble all the beasts of the field, come to devour.

10 Many pastors have destroyed my vineyard, they have trodden my portion under foot, they have made my pleasant portion a desolate wilderness.

11 They have made it desolate, and being desolate it mourneth unto me; the whole land is made desolate, because no man layeth it to heart.

12 The spoilers are come upon all high places through the wilderness: for the sword of the Lordshall devour from the one end of the land even to the other end of the land: no flesh shall have peace.

13 They have sown wheat, but shall reap thorns: they have put themselves to pain, but shall not profit: and they shall be ashamed of your revenues because of the fierce anger of the Lord.

14 Thus saith the Lord against all mine evil neighbours, that touch the inheritance which I have caused my people Israel to inherit; Behold, I will pluck them out of their land, and pluck out the house of Judah from among them.

15 And it shall come to pass, after that I have plucked them out I will return, and have compassion on them, and will bring them again, every man to his heritage, and every man to his land.

16 And it shall come to pass, if they will diligently learn the ways of my people, to swear by my name, The Lord liveth; as they taught my people to swear by Baal; then shall they be built in the midst of my people.

17 But if they will not obey, I will utterly pluck up and destroy that nation, saith the Lord.

  1. 5 If thou hast run with the footmen, and they have wearied thee, then how canst thou contend with horses? and if in the land of peace, wherein thou trustedst, they wearied thee, then how wilt thou do in the swelling of Jordan?

If we can’t live for God in the easy times, how do we expect to live for Him against oppression? We need to use this time to strengthen our dedication and our walk with Him so that when difficult times come, we will have the strength and determination to make it through.

  2. A God of second chances

He will return again and have compassion, and see if we have influenced the world instead of the world influenced us. Have we taught them to swear by His name or have they taught us to swear by baal’s name. Our vision is about that about IMPACTING LIVES TO CHANGE THE WORLD. It is about us impacting them not them impacting us; so when our Lord return He will rejoice about the Impact we have done. Do not get weary or lose your patience, just keep working for His Kingdom at the end we will reap if we faint not.

  3. 2 Thou hast planted them, yea, they have taken root: they grow, yea, they bring forth fruit: thou art near in their mouth, and far from their reins.

Again the grace and mercy of the Lord is revealed throughout this entire chapter as Jeremiah inquires of the Lord regarding the hearts of Israel.
He reveals in this verse how many christians live today. Many say they are “christians” but they produce no fruit of a Christ-like life. It takes more than must talking about God. It takes a genuine relationship with the Lord in order for the fruit to be evident.

Lord help me to not get so caught up in the work of the Lord that I forget the Lord of the work. Help me to not but duties before relationship. Let me truly place You, Oh Lord upon the throne of my heart, that you would rule and reign as Lord and King.

  4. This chapter illustrates reason. There was a reason for what he was going through; “If thou hast run with the footmen, and they have wearied thee, then how canst thou contend with horses? and if in the land of peace, wherein thou trustedst, they wearied thee, then how wilt thou do in the swelling of Jordan”. Although one may be weary, one can take strength in knowing there is a reason; “Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you: But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ’s sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy”. What a mighty God we serve! May the good Lord Bless you all in Jesus name, Amen

  5. LEADERS GET READY

5 If thou hast run with the footmen, and they have wearied thee, then how canst thou contend with horses? and if in the land of peace, wherein thou trustedst, they wearied thee, then how wilt thou do in the swelling of Jordan?

The is speaking a strong word of warning to Jeremiah. I believe HE is speaking to this generation as well LEADERS GET READY, if we cannot keep PACE right now, he will we ever contend when the times are really troubled and the pressure is magnified.

Here is the LORD’s answer to Jeremiah’s “complaining”

    MSG
5 “If you have raced with men on foot
and they have worn you out,
how can you compete with horses?
If you stumble[a] in safe country,
how will you manage in the thickets by[b] the Jordan?

Let us purpose in our hearts today to speak FAITH and not fear, HOPE and not doubt, COURAGE and not weariness, STRENGTH and not weakness.

2 Thessalonians 3:13 But ye, brethren, be not weary in well doing.

Keep pressing on, we have seen NOTHING YET!

    iPraise
    iPray
    iWork
    iGive
    iReap

  6. Stop touching Me!

14 Thus saith the Lord against all mine evil neighbours, that touch the inheritance which I have caused my people Israel to inherit; Behold, I will pluck them out of their land, and pluck out the house of Judah from among them.

When you were a child you probably said this phrase. And when you did they said to stop. Did you do that? More than not ,NO you did not stop. Well, just as a child ,we do this as adults. We talk against our neighbours, and against our leadership. All of us are guilty of doing this. If we don’t like what is happening at our job then we blame our mangers, if its at church than we blame our leaders or better yet the Pastor,” Because he knows all that goes on in our church.” Don’t touch God anointed! God placed these people in our lives to help us and to be accountable to them. If you touch “talk” about the man of God just remember what happened to the children that made fun of Elisha. God caused a bear to eat them. It might not be a physical bear, but in our days it might be something else. So “DON’T TOUCH” God’s anointed!!!! It will be God that you have to answer to in the end.

  7. 8 Mine heritage is unto me as a lion in the forest; it crieth out against me: therefore have I hated it.

9 Mine heritage is unto me as a speckled bird, the birds round about are against her; come ye, assemble all the beasts of the field, come to devour.

    THAT GREAT SPECKLED BIRD

I am sure some of us remember this old song of the beauty of the great speckled bird coming in her glory. Yes those around her are against her because she is different. They will come with everything against her, it will not bother them to lie about her. They will do whatever it takes to destroy her heritage. Assemble all the beasts of the field against her. Think about this, they will come with all forces. I have heard and read about the old timers of Pentecost being persecuted, beat with whips and suffering because of what we believe.
No some of this is not happening now, but we never know what will come to us and from whom it may come.
Spread those wings great speckled bird I know it will come, but will I be at my best when it does come.
    Help me LORD!!!!!!!!!

  8. 7. I HAVE FORSAKEN MINE HOUSE, I HAVE LEFT MY HERITAGE; I HAVE GIVEN THE DEARLY BELOVED OF MY SOUL INTO THE HAND OF HER ENEMIES.

  9. 10 Many pastors have destroyed my vineyard, they have trodden my portion under foot, they have made my pleasant portion a desolate wilderness

  10. I have forsaken mine house,i have left mine heritage; i have forgiven the dearly beloved of my soul into the hand of enemies.

  11. Jeremiah 12 (NLT)

    Chapter 12

    Jeremiah Questions the LORD’s Justice
1 LORD, you always give me justice
when I bring a case before you.
So let me bring you this complaint:
Why are the wicked so prosperous?
Why are evil people so happy?
    2 You have planted them,
and they have taken root and prospered.
Your name is on their lips,
but you are far from their hearts.
3 But as for me, LORD, you know my heart.
You see me and test my thoughts.
Drag these people away like sheep to be butchered!
Set them aside to be slaughtered!

4 How long must this land mourn?
Even the grass in the fields has withered.
The wild animals and birds have disappeared
because of the evil in the land.
    For the people have said,
“The LORD doesn’t see what’s ahead for us!”

    The LORD’s Reply to Jeremiah
5 “If racing against mere men makes you tired,
how will you race against horses?
If you stumble and fall on open ground,
what will you do in the thickets near the Jordan?
6 Even your brothers, members of your own family,
    have turned against you.
They plot and raise complaints against you.
    Do not trust them,
no matter how pleasantly they speak.

7 “I have abandoned my people, my special possession.
I have surrendered my dearest ones to their enemies.
8 My chosen people have roared at me like a lion of the forest,
so I have treated them with contempt.
9 My chosen people act like speckled vultures,*
but they themselves are surrounded by vultures.
Bring on the wild animals to pick their corpses clean!

10 “Many rulers have ravaged my vineyard,
    trampling down the vines
and turning all its beauty into a barren wilderness.
    11 They have made it an empty wasteland;
    I hear its mournful cry.
    The whole land is desolate,
    and no one even cares.
12 On all the bare hilltops,
    destroying armies can be seen.
The sword of the LORD devours people
from one end of the nation to the other.
    No one will escape!
13 My people have planted wheat
    but are harvesting thorns.
    They have worn themselves out,
but it has done them no good.
They will harvest a crop of shame
because of the fierce anger of the LORD.”

    A Message for Israel’s Neighbors
14 Now this is what the LORD says: “I will uproot from their land all the evil nations reaching out for the possession I gave my people Israel. And I will uproot Judah from among them. 15 But afterward I will return and have compassion on all of them. I will bring them home to their own lands again, each nation to its own possession. 16 And if these nations truly learn the ways of my people, and if they learn to swear by my name, saying, ‘As surely as the LORD lives’ (just as they taught my people to swear by the name of Baal), then they will be given a place among my people. 17 But any nation who refuses to obey me will be uprooted and destroyed. I, the LORD, have spoken!”

What a shame it is for those who say they live for God, and even speak his name but their hearts are far from them. Yesterday I was listening to the radio, and I heard someone come on, and start talking about “God has a plan for our lives.” Although this was true it had an ominous undertone. It was as if I could envision in my mind false christianity patting themselves on the back, and saying how good they had it while they live a life unregenerated, and sinful.

I am grateful for the progress many have toward God, and I pray this continues. I am not talking about that, but rather the deception that pulls many down.

The word tells us that men love darkness rather than light because their deeds are evil. It is imperative that the church be the true light of the world set on a hill that can’t be hid.

When we proclaim christianity we literally say “I am Christ-like. How I am is how Christ is.”

If we are not careful we will example something Jesus isn’t, and spread a message of a false-christ by our actions.

    Matthew 5:37 (KJV 1900)
37 But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil.

  12. 16 And it shall come to pass, if they will diligently learn the ways of my people, to swear by my name, The Lord liveth; as they taught my people to swear by Baal; then shall they be built in the midst of my people.

If we obey God, put aside our idols and follow him, then we can have life through him.

  13. 2 Thou hast planted them, yea, they have taken root: they grow, yea, they bring forth fruit: thou art near in their mouth, and far from their reins.

  14. Keep up we are going somewhere in The Lord !

5 If thou hast run with the footmen, and they have wearied thee, then how canst thou contend with horses? and if in the land of peace, wherein thou trustedst, they wearied thee, then how wilt thou do in the swelling of Jordan?

    Galatians 6:
9 And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.

There is a calling of a sacrifice of labor, recourses, energy, sweat, blood,
    tears, finances, ideas, dreams, imagination…..

There is not going to be a shortage of jobs to be done.
God is calling faithfulness and diligence without excuse or reason.
If we want what God has for us we have to go get it.

My Dad used to tell me when I was a kid that he wasn’t going to give me a car because if I didn’t work for it then I wouldn’t respect it. He made me work for it! That principle that he laid is still with me today.

    Lets go to work!

    • Michael-

      How may beast were there?

God said that thre peace land is the good land. The desolate land is the bad land.

If people don’t listen to God he will be mad

  15. God can and will give is what we need and desire. All He is waiting on is for us to open out mouth! Ask and ye shall receive! I know I’m going to thank God for what He’s already done, doing now and is going to do!!

  16. Verses 14-17 MSG “God’s Message: “Regarding all the bad neighbors who abused the land I gave to Israel as their inheritance: I’m going to pluck them out of their lands, and then pluck Judah out from among them. Once I’ve pulled the bad neighbors out, I will relent and take them tenderly to my heart and put them back where they belong, put each of them back in their home country, on their family farms. Then if they will get serious about living my way and pray to me as well as they taught my people to pray to that god Baal, everything will go well for them. But if they won’t listen, then I’ll pull them out of their land by the roots and cart them off to the dump. Total destruction!” God’s Decree.” The end of this chapter warns us to get serious about living our lives for Jesus.

  17. 1 You are right, O God, and you set things right. I can’t argue with that. But I do have some questions: Why do bad people have it so good? Why do con artists make it big? MSG

How many of us will be honest and say we have ask this question? I will be honest I have said that and you have too if you are honest with yourself and God. But as the scripture says That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust. KJV Matthew 5:45
Don’t get upset or jealous when someone gets a blessing rejoice with them. It’s time for God’s blessings on POFW step in and join in and receive your blessing. I’m so thankful to be a part of a church that has a vision and is going places. Thank you Jesus

  18. Jeremiah 12:1 Because God is righteous , He is a dependable arbiter and judge. He is ready to listen to our questions and complaints.
The Lord replies that ultimately the wicked in Judah will perish(vv.7-13) and that the wicked invaders who destroy them will themselves be destroyed (vv.14-17)

  19. ILove to eat the word

17 But if they will not obey, I will utterly pluck up and destroy that nation, saith the Lord.

We must always obey The Lord

  20. The race is on

5 If thou hast run with the footmen, and they have wearied thee, then how canst thou contend with horses? and if in the land of peace, wherein thou trustedst, they wearied thee, then how wilt thou do in the swelling of Jordan?

Get your racing shoes on! If you thought it was fast pace, get ready to kick it into a higher gear. Right now at PoFW we have some awesome things happening. People go the church building I would guess daily. So of us are feeling like, “oh wow. I can’t do anything else to help. I have already commuted enough. “. Others of us are thinking, “thank you God for our present and help us Lord to keep up with your future.”

We need to be able to think about the battles that have already been won in our lives.

  21. If thou hast run with the footmen, and they have wearied thee, then how canst thou contend with horses? and if in the land of peace, wherein thou trustedst, they wearied thee, then how wilt thou do in the swelling of Jordan?

    Pray for strength…
To endure to the end. As I read and re-read this chapter a couple of times and meditating on it, I saw this verse that stood out to me. The Lord speaking through His word to the church leaders, and ministers, to raise up the standard. The words preached over the pulpit keep resounding in my head, “you ain’t seen nothing yet!”. God has done great things here in our present and we celebrate the great victories and miracles, but what’s coming is much greater and because of it so will the opposition. I see this as a word of warning, and at the same time encouragement. Strengthen yourselves. We’re about to enter the major league and the World Series. Are we fit to endure the 9 innings? Now it may last only a few but we must be spiritually fit and mature…
The Christian life is a race as Paul described it…
Matthew 24:13 But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.

  22. Through The Flood

5 If thou hast run with the footmen, and they have wearied thee, then how canst thou contend with horses? and if in the land of peace, wherein thou trustedst, they wearied thee, then how wilt thou do in the swelling of Jordan?

Every day we are challenged to stretch. If we are experiencing stress of any kind, we are experiencing stretching. Difficult times gives us opportunity to grow, and while we may not understand it all during a particular season, we can trust God with the outcome. Going through the flood is hard, but it gives us room to grow and mature. Today’s challenge could very well be tomorrow’s answer; we can’t afford to get caught up in the “life” but must keep our eyes on Jesus.

    1 Peter 5:6-7
6 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: 7 Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.

    I’m reminded of a song:

What a Friend we have in Jesus,
all our sins and griefs to bear!
    What a privilege to carry
    everything to God in prayer!
O what peace we often forfeit,
O what needless pain we bear,
All because we do not carry
    everything to God in prayer.

  23. V 5

    When the going gets tough

If thou hast run with the footmen , and they have wearied thee, then how canst thou contend with horses ? and if in the land of peace , wherein thou trustedst , they wearied thee, then how wilt thou do in the swelling of Jordan ?
    NET
The LORD answered, “If you have raced on foot against men and they have worn you out, how will you be able to compete with horses? And if you feel secure only in safe and open country, how will you manage in the thick undergrowth along the Jordan River?

The undergrowth of Jordan was a dangerous place and lions tended to dwell there. Here God reminds the prophet that things are going to get worse. Likewise for America, things will get worse big we can’t hang today, then odds are stacked highly against you that you won’t make it in the days of severe persecution.

  24. 15 And it shall come to pass, after that I have plucked them out I will return, and have compassion on them, and will bring them again, every man to his heritage, and every man to his land.
16 And it shall come to pass, if they will diligently learn the ways of my people, to swear by my name, The Lord liveth; as they taught my people to swear by Baal; then shall they be built in the midst of my people.

The could’nt believe that God would judge them. They wouldn’t believe that he knew that their hearts were far from him even though they praised him with their lips. He knows us better than we know ourselves. Yet after judgement, he promises restoration. He is a loving God yet it is a fearful thing to fall into his hands to be judged.

  25. Why, God?

The prophet asks some insightful questions: Why do the wicked prosper? Why do the faithless lead easy lives? He is not alone in his wondering. Even Job and David interrogate God with similar questions (Job 21:7-21; Ps 73), as does Habakkuk wihen he asks,”Why then do you tolerate the trecherous?” (Hab 1:13). We may be asking the same question today. I know I do. Jeremiah knows God’s justice will eventually prevail, but he’s growing impatient as he watches the wicked get away with lawlessness. God responds to Jeremiah with His own question: If you can’t run the race now, how will you endure against even greater injustices? (Jer 12:5). It’s natural for us to expect God to straighten out the wicked, but our ways are not His ways (Isa 55:9). God accomplishes His justice on His own timetable, not ours. Everything falling apart around us, is alot like God turning up the speed dial on the treadmill of life. He knows what He is doing, even when we are so clueless. God shows us here how He develops our spiritual endurance, He calls our walk a race. Paul expands by saying:

Acts 20:24″However, I consider my life worth nothing to me; my only aim is to finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me–the task of testifying to the good news of God’s grace”
