Jeremiah 13

1 Thus saith the Lord unto me, Go and get thee a linen girdle, and put it upon thy loins, and put it not in water.

So I got a girdle according to the word of the Lord, and put it on my loins.

And the word of the Lord came unto me the second time, saying,

Take the girdle that thou hast got, which is upon thy loins, and arise, go to Euphrates, and hide it there in a hole of the rock.

So I went, and hid it by Euphrates, as the Lordcommanded me.

And it came to pass after many days, that the Lord said unto me, Arise, go to Euphrates, and take the girdle from thence, which I commanded thee to hide there.

Then I went to Euphrates, and digged, and took the girdle from the place where I had hid it: and, behold, the girdle was marred, it was profitable for nothing.

Then the word of the Lord came unto me, saying,

Thus saith the Lord, After this manner will I mar the pride of Judah, and the great pride of Jerusalem.

10 This evil people, which refuse to hear my words, which walk in the imagination of their heart, and walk after other gods, to serve them, and to worship them, shall even be as this girdle, which is good for nothing.

11 For as the girdle cleaveth to the loins of a man, so have I caused to cleave unto me the whole house of Israel and the whole house of Judah, saith the Lord; that they might be unto me for a people, and for a name, and for a praise, and for a glory: but they would not hear.

12 Therefore thou shalt speak unto them this word; Thus saith the Lord God of Israel, Every bottle shall be filled with wine: and they shall say unto thee, Do we not certainly know that every bottle shall be filled with wine?

13 Then shalt thou say unto them, Thus saith the Lord, Behold, I will fill all the inhabitants of this land, even the kings that sit upon David’s throne, and the priests, and the prophets, and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, with drunkenness.

14 And I will dash them one against another, even the fathers and the sons together, saith the Lord: I will not pity, nor spare, nor have mercy, but destroy them.

15 Hear ye, and give ear; be not proud: for the Lord hath spoken.

16 Give glory to the Lord your God, before he cause darkness, and before your feet stumble upon the dark mountains, and, while ye look for light, he turn it into the shadow of death, and make it gross darkness.

17 But if ye will not hear it, my soul shall weep in secret places for your pride; and mine eye shall weep sore, and run down with tears, because the Lord’s flock is carried away captive.

18 Say unto the king and to the queen, Humble yourselves, sit down: for your principalities shall come down, even the crown of your glory.

19 The cities of the south shall be shut up, and none shall open them: Judah shall be carried away captive all of it, it shall be wholly carried away captive.

20 Lift up your eyes, and behold them that come from the north: where is the flock that was given thee, thy beautiful flock?

21 What wilt thou say when he shall punish thee? for thou hast taught them to be captains, and as chief over thee: shall not sorrows take thee, as a woman in travail?

22 And if thou say in thine heart, Wherefore come these things upon me? For the greatness of thine iniquity are thy skirts discovered, and thy heels made bare.

23 Can the Ethiopian change his skin, or the leopard his spots? then may ye also do good, that are accustomed to do evil.

24 Therefore will I scatter them as the stubble that passeth away by the wind of the wilderness.

25 This is thy lot, the portion of thy measures from me, saith the Lord; because thou hast forgotten me, and trusted in falsehood.

26 Therefore will I discover thy skirts upon thy face, that thy shame may appear.

27 I have seen thine adulteries, and thy neighings, the lewdness of thy whoredom, and thine abominations on the hills in the fields. Woe unto thee, O Jerusalem! wilt thou not be made clean? when shall it once be?

  1. 15 Hear ye, and give ear; be not proud: for the Lord hath spoken.

The main problem here was their pride – if we would control our pride and give all glory to God, He would be our light and our salvation and walk with us in the shadow of death.

  2. Praise the Lord that when our lives become marred from sin we have and advocate with the Father, but we must repent and not be guilty of pride and stubbornness as Israel was, otherwise God will not spare his chastening hand from our lives.

  3. 23
Can the Ethiopian change his skin, or
the leopard his spots? then may ye also
do good, that are accustomed to do evil.

    24
Therefore will I scatter them as the
stubble that passeth away by the wind of
    the wilderness.

    25
This is thy lot, the portion of thy
    measures from me, saith the Lord;
because thou hast forgotten me, and
    trusted in falsehood.

    26
Therefore will I discover thy skirts
upon thy face, that thy shame may
    appear.

    27
I have seen thine adulteries, and thy
    neighings, the lewdness of thy
    whoredom, and thine abominations on
the hills in the fields. Woe unto thee, O
Jerusalem! wilt thou not be made clean?
    when shall it once be?

Can the Ethiopian change his skin or the leopard his spots? We all have things that can hold us back from the grace of God. It may seem impossible for us to give them up. Its true that we cant change on our own. We must ask God to walk with us in the process after the conscience decision to do so. What you will find after you have rid yourself of whatever blockage you had in the way between you and the Lord, is an open channel of favor and grace from the Lord. You will have the Lord to fall upon when the going gets tuff. How long will it be before this nation is made clean?

  4. 23 Can the Ethiopian change his skin, or the leopard his spots? then may ye also do good, that are accustomed to do evil.

    CAN WE DO GOOD

The truth of the matter is we can not change the outer man, the color of our skin, our past, our father and mother. You cannot change your heritage or your family members. And how we would like to change our brother John, but John will be John.
The leopard can not change his spots! Before plastic surgery if we had a crooked nose, we had to live with it. You can’t even make your head grow hair ( I know what I am talking about) trust me. Our outward appearance is what it is. I would say we can not change our gray hair but things have changed that, maybe that is why he said the leopard could not change his spots.
I think we almost get the point, what we have on the outside is what it is and we learn to live with it.
We can change our attitude, the way we think, the places we go, and all the things on the inside of man. We are responsible of our own actions.

    1 Sam 2:3

3 Talk no more so exceeding proudly; let not arrogancy come out of your mouth: for the LORD is a God of knowledge, and by him actions are weighed.

What it teaches us by him actions are weighed, so our actions are important to God!!

I know we can repent and make things right with God and change. We can do good!! Yes sir if we try we have the ability to change a lot of things.

When we receive the Holy Ghost we get what we need to overcome whatever challenges we are faced with.

    WE CAN DO GOOD!!!!!

Don’t fall for the old saying I can’t do anything about it.
    YES YOU CAN!!!!!!!!!!

    “Pride Mars Praise”

Thus saith the Lord, After this manner will I mar the pride of Judah, and the great pride of Jerusalem.

    mar (mär)
    tr.v. marred, mar·ring, mars
    1. To inflict damage, especially disfiguring damage, on.

    2. To impair the soundness, perfection, or integrity of; spoil.

    n.
    A disfiguring mark; a blemish.

For as the girdle cleaveth to the loins of a man, so have I caused to cleave unto me the whole house of Israel and the whole house of Judah, saith the Lord; that they might be unto me for a people, and for a name, and for a praise, and for a glory: but they would not hear.

God created us to cleave unto Him, to praise Him, to glorify Him. Pride causes us to become embarrassed and self conscience of how we praise.

Pride never stops at marring praise, Not only does pride mar praise, but also causes us to chase after things other than God. (like screaming and yelling for our favorite football team.)

When we find ourselves more passionate about things of this world than the things of God, We have to realize that we need to repent.

  6. PRIDE
    Proverbs 16:18 KJV
Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.
Pride that stems from self righteousness is sin and I believe God hates it cause it hinders us with our relationship with him. When you have so much pride your thoughts are so far from God and there is no room for God to speak or use you. Pride is self worshiping. Who are you worshiping today yourself or God the king of Glory. You don’t have to go around and act like you are all that calm down get off yourself and let God shine thru you. GIve God all the glory where the glory goes.
As it is written in the chapter it tells us God don’t like pride, so if God don’t like pride why should we? It’s not what we say about ourselves that matter it is what God says about us that matters.
So let your light shine and be a witness for God and let God work thru you and in you.

  7. 9 Thus saith the Lord, After this manner will I mar the pride of Judah, and the great pride of Jerusalem.

When we have pride we cannot hear what God is saying in the clearest form. It’s as clear as mud. When our praise is marred ,God looks away just as he did to Judah. This hurts God because he made us to praise Him ,and when his creation cannot do what it was made to do it hurts. I pray that our Praise is clean and pure.

  8. 10 This evil people, which refuse to hear my words, which walk in the imagination of their heart, and walk after other gods, to serve them, and to worship them, shall even be as this girdle, which is good for nothing.

We have to remember anything can be made an idol. If we’re spending more time on something of this world than the God that made it than we need to be careful. Anything can be made an idol and we have to be careful not to allow things or people of this world to get in between us and God. He is a jealous God and we will cause ourselves to be made good for nothing because of our own actions and decisions. We have to keep God as the Lord or our lives and let nothing come between that.

  9. IDOLATRY DESTROYS GENERATIONS

7 Then I went to Euphrates, and digged, and took the girdle from the place where I had hid it: and, behold, the girdle was marred, it was profitable for nothing.
8 Then the word of the Lord came unto me, saying,
9 Thus saith the Lord, After this manner will I mar the pride of Judah, and the great pride of Jerusalem.

What a “parable” the LORD GOD teaches us, about his feeling and attitude toward idolatry and pride. Idols are anything other than GOD that owns a person. Example: I have to go do …., I have to go see …., any time, place or thing that we spend more time, treasure or talent on; in the eyes of the LORD is an idol.

The LORD uses a loin girdle to exhibit a point here in this testimony. The point being that the loins are the area of reproduction and the idolatry of the children of Israel was destroying future generations of mighty men and women of GOD. Parents must consider not only their own soul, but the soul of their children must also be considered and idolatry is destroying families and homes.

The stench of pride is manifest in rebellion, GOD judged Israel because they refused to REPENT. GOD will judge us as well if we refuse to REPENT. What are you trying to prove anyway? Who are you trying to prove it to? The LORD JESUS is the only GOD and all that matters to him is that we OBEY HIM. The LORD reveals his anger here in verse:

10 This evil people, which refuse to hear my words, which walk in the imagination of their heart, and walk after other gods, to serve them, and to worship them, shall even be as this girdle, which is good for nothing.
11 For as the girdle cleaveth to the loins of a man, so have I caused to cleave unto me the whole house of Israel and the whole house of Judah, saith the Lord; that they might be unto me for a people, and for a name, and for a praise, and for a glory: but they would not hear.

The LORD also used the girdle as a sign of HIS desire for intimacy with HIS people, HE desires for us to cleave to HIM. Listen and Walk in OBEDIENCE to HIM not in the carnal, evil imagination of the selfish heart of man.

    iRepent
    iPraise
    iPray
    iWork
    iGive
    iReap

    NOW

  10. 23 Can the Ethiopian change his skin, or the leopard his spots? then may ye also do good, that are accustomed to do evil.

We can not change that we favor our parents or the type of body that came from being their offspring , but we can choose other things about us.Our outside can put on holy attire , we can change the way we think , we can change our attitude. We can pray and ask God for a servant’s heart,so that we can serve in His kingdom and be compassionate to others so that we may be soul winners in our great area that God has placed us in ,Fort Worth and all of the surrounding areas.
God is so good, I just can’t wait to see ALL the things He is going to be doing for my family and everyone else and all the things He is doing for His church, the church that He gave all of us to be workers for Him!!! Praise The Lord !!!!God is Good!!!

  11. These wicked people refuse to listen to me. They stubbornly follow their own desires and worship other gods. Therefore, they will become like this loincloth—good for nothing!
Give glory to the Lord your God before it is too late. Acknowledge him before he brings darkness upon you, causing you to stumble and fall on the darkening mountains. For then, when you look for light, you will find only terrible darkness and gloom. (Jeremiah 13:10, 16 NLT)

Don’t ignore God or what He has told you to do, there’s always a reason for it!! Ignoring God will only get us farther from where He built us to be. Without a strong relationship with God you will crumble and fall because if you stand for nothing you will fall for everything! Look to God before life try’s to bring you down. Praise Him before, during, and after the storm.. Not just because you want something from God! He deserves better than that!!

Thank you Jesus for your light to shine through me. I will take this word and strength and share it to people who are hungry for you! Hallelujah!!

  12. The Lord’s attempt through His grace and mercy to reach out to Israel who was caught up in pride and rebellion. These two are buddies where there is one, there is usually the other. Pride goeth before destruction and a haughty (rebellious) spirit before a fall. Israel had chosen to walk in their own path that seemed right unto themselves, and forsake the path of the Lord. They did not possess an “attitude of gratitude” but they continually did things that displeased the Lord.

In His attempt to turn them again to repentance He spoke to the prophet, and showed them a signed of what their future would hold. They would be marred as the girdle, they would be filled with drunkness and turn one against the other, and yet still no repentance.

How many times does God have to speak to us and we don’t obey? Lord help us to become sensitive to you that we obey at the first command, and you don’t have to take us through trials and tribulation to get us to where you want us to me. Help us to keep the spirit of pride and rebellion out of our lives, and that comes by crucifying our flesh everyday.

  13. Jeremiah 13:23
Can the Ethiopian change his skin, or the leopard his spots? then may ye also do good, that are accustomed to do evil.

    The word accustomed means learned.

h3928. למוד limmud; or למד limmud; from 3925; instructed:— accustomed, disciple, learned, taught, used.
    AV (6)- learned 2, disciple 1, taught 1, used 1, accustomed 1;
taught, learned, discipled taught accustomed to ( something)

The people taught themselves to do evil so much that it became them. Now just as a leopard cannot change its spots those who have sold out to wickedness cannot change.

This is the end of the rope, the last straw, and final move before destruction.

He has plead with them and given them chance after chance but they refuse to change. Just like the heart of Pharaoh they have been hardened. Stubbornness is as idolatry. They have made themselves gods in their own eyes.

    Now God says something frightening.

    Jeremiah 13:26
Therefore will I discover thy skirts upon thy face, that thy shame may appear.

The word skirts here means priestly garments.

h7757. שׁול sul; from an unused root meaning to hang down; a skirt; by implication, a bottom edge:— hem, skirt, train.
    AV (11)- hem 6, skirt 4, train 1;
skirt ( of robe) of high priest’s robe of God’s train, city as woman, ignominy, defilement ( fig)

Now they face losing their priesthood in the eyes of God. The relationship between God and man, and atonement.

  14. The end of verses 20-22 MSG “….Do I hear you saying, “What’s going on here? Why me?” The answer’s simple: You’re guilty, hugely guilty. Your guilt has your life endangered, your guilt has you writhing in pain.” Many people may be wondering this very question and the answer is still simple “guilty”. Could it be that “guilt” is stemming from your refusal to listen/obey and that pride is going to cause you to be left in the dark? One must do as the beginning of verse 16 MSG says “Give glory to the Lord your God before it is too late. Acknowledge him before he brings darkness upon you,….”.

John 8:12 NLT “Jesus spoke to the people once more and said, “I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life.”

  15. Pride = idolatry

15 Hear ye, and give ear; be not proud: for the Lord hath spoken.

Exodus 32:9 And the LORD said unto Moses, I have seen this people, and, behold, it is a stiffnecked people:

Act 7:51 Ye stiffnecked and uncircumcised in heart and ears, ye do always resist the Holy Ghost: as your fathers did, so do ye.

Definition of Proud = feeling deep pleasure or satisfaction as a result of one’s own achievements, qualities, or possessions or those of someone with whom one is closely associated. Having or showing a high or excessively high opinion of oneself or one’s importance.

You put yourself above God, believing you can do it all by yourself. You have become your own idol. No longer relying upon God but always yourself. No longer taking the time to seek, pray, love, and need God; what for if you can do it all by yourself. You are your own idol!!! How can this change?
2 Chronicles 7:14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

  16. 10 These wicked people refuse to listen to me. They stubbornly follow their own desires and worship other gods. Therefore, they will become like this loincloth—good for nothing!
11 As a loincloth clings to a man’s waist, so I created Judah and Israel to cling to me, says the Lord. They were to be my people, my pride, my glory—an honor to my name. But they would not listen to me. (NLT)

Listen for and to God’s commands, then obey His commands. Don’t make unnecessary decisions to make yourself as though you are just as the loincloth. We are to cling to the Lord – He owns us!! Cling to Him, serve Him, and don’t steal God’s pride and glory for your own sake. Let God have pride in our obedience to say “they’re mine, look at them go!” Give all glory and honor to His name, He’s the one who deserves it!

  17. 17 But if ye will not hear it, my soul shall weep in secret places for your pride; and mine eye shall weep sore, and run down with tears, because the Lord’s flock is carried away captive.

  18. 8 Then I received this message from the Lord: 9 “This is what the Lord says: This shows how I will rot away the pride of Judah and Jerusalem. But they would not listen to me.(NLT)

We are commanded to to bring honor and glory to God. What good is the gift/talent he has gave you if you hide it away and do nothing with it or worse use it in a sinful manner. We should cling to the Lord and allow him to use the gifts he has given us to bring honor to his name.

  19. 20 Lift up your eyes, and behold them that come from the north: where is the flock that was given thee, thy beautiful flock?

What happened to those who you were put over? Those you were responsible for? Jesus is known as the good shepherd, and often times pastors are referred to as shepherds. Pastor watts is our shepherd and though he may have some under shepherds, he is responsible for the flock.

    John 21:15-17
So when they had dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me more than these? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my lambs. He saith to him again the second time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my sheep. He saith unto him the third time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved because he said unto him the third time, Lovest thou me? And he said unto him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith unto him, Feed my sheep.

Jesus calls his people sheep. He cares for all his sheep. We will all be held accountable for ourselves but pastor gives an account for each of us.

    Hebrews 13:17
Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves:for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief:for that is unprofitable for you.

    Acts 20:28
Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood.

Pastor has us be accountable not because of control but because one day Jesus is going to ask ” where is the flock that was given thee?” And pastor will answer. As leaders and/or ministers if we have been delegated some flock to tend for pastor we need to ask ourselves where is the flock as well.

If we rebel or choose to live our own way we will likely effect the flock we are over or just around. It causes concern from not only pastor but more importantly Jesus. Feed His sheep. Where is the flock given thee?

Lift up the man of Gods hands, be accountable, and if given the authority lets feed His sheep.

  20. 9 Thus saith the Lord, After this manner will I mar the pride of Judah, and the great pride of Jerusalem.

  21. Vs.10, “This evil people, which refuse to hear my words, which walk in the imagination of their own heart, and walk after other gods, to serve them, and to worship them, shall even be as this girdle, which is good for nothing.”

1 Sam.15:23a says, “For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubborness is as iniquity and idolatry…”

When people are rebellious and stubborn to hear the word of God, when they walk in the flesh and in the imagination of their own heart, when they serve and worship other things besides God, they truely are “good for nothing” when it comes to the kingdom of God.

The only way we can ever become “good enough” is to be saved, and salvation comes because of the GRACE of God. Eph.2:8 says, “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God.”

Give your life to Jesus, live for him, and you can become “something good” for his kingdom.

  22. NLT 1This is what the Lord said to me: “Go and buy a linen loincloth and put it on, but do not wash it.” 2 So I bought the loincloth as the Lord directed me, and I put it on.

3 Then the Lord gave me another message: 4 “Take the linen loincloth you are wearing, and go to the Euphrates River.[a] Hide it there in a hole in the rocks.” 5 So I went and hid it by the Euphrates as the Lord had instructed me.

6 A long time afterward the Lord said to me, “Go back to the Euphrates and get the loincloth I told you to hide there.” 7 So I went to the Euphrates and dug it out of the hole where I had hidden it. But now it was rotting and falling apart. The loincloth was good for nothing.

To me the loincloth represents sin. Its like carrying sin around all the time, on your back, just being dead weight. God said, “do not wash the cloth”. This tells me your sins are not washed away yet. With sin in our heart, we try to hide it all cost. We do things when no one is looking, do things in the dark, rebel against authority. Your secret sin is destoying you little by little over time!

God say, “go back and get the loincloth”. This tells me to go and find an alter and repent. Once you repent, now go get baptised in Jesus name. You have to dig & pull your sin out and tell Jesus about them. Your sins are washed away, just like using a cloth to wash yourself off. The sins are lifted off you. Now is the time to seek God, cant wait a long time to seek him.

  23. This chapter illustrates example. The Lord gave an example of what was to come; “This evil people, which refuse to hear my words, which walk in the imagination of their heart, and walk after other gods, to serve them, and to worship them, shall even be as this girdle, which is good for nothing”. There are many examples of unfortunate occurrences when one turns their back on God, just as there are many examples of what occurs when one lives for God; “Blessed is every one that feareth the Lord; that walketh in his ways”. What a mighty God we serve! May the good Lord Bless you all in Jesus name, Amen

  24. 17 But if ye will not hear it, my soul shall weep in secret places for your pride; and mine eye shall weep sore, and run down with tears, because the Lord’s flock is carried away captive.

18 Say unto the king and to the queen, Humble yourselves, sit down: for your principalities shall come down, even the crown of your glory.

  25. Then I said, Listen. Listen carefully: Don’t stay stuck in your ways! It’s God ’s Message we’re dealing with here. Let your lives glow bright before God before he turns out the lights, Before you trip and fall on the dark mountain paths. The light you always took for granted will go out and the world will turn black. If you people won’t listen, I’ll go off by myself and weep over you, Weep because of your stubborn arrogance, bitter, bitter tears, Rivers of tears from my eyes, because God ’s sheep will end up in exile. (Jeremiah 13:15-17 MSG

Lord that we never take your light for granted.

  26. Give glory to the Lord your God before it is too late. Acknowledge him before he brings darkness upon you, causing you to stumble and fall on the darkening mountains. For then, when you look for light, you will find only terrible darkness and gloom. (Jeremiah 13:16 NLT)

  27. v 22 And if you ask yourself, “Why has this happened to me ?” it is because of your many sins….v 25 “because you have forgotten me and trusted in false gods.”

“…because you have forgotten me and trusted in false gods.” There is time after time that you read all they had to do was repent and trust in the Lord, and they could not even do that. It seems so simple but numerous people in the bible struggled with putting their trust in false gods. Have we ever really examined our lives to see if we have any false gods? We may push it to the side and say oh no not me that was only an issue in ancient days, but if so many people in the bible had struggles with it than why wouldn’t we?

False gods – any gods other than the Lord himself. Some of these divinities took the form of images, others were mythical.

These are just some of the false gods that are mentioned in the bible: Amon, Asherah, Ashtoreth, Baal, Baal-Zebub, Bel, Chemosh, Dagon, Molech, Tammuz

  28. 10 This evil people, which refuse to hear my words, which walk in the imagination of their heart, and walk after other gods, to serve them, and to worship them, shall even be as this girdle, which is good for nothing.

It is now time to open your spiritual ears to the voice of GOD. God has shown nothing but mercy toward His people, and they still refuse to hear.
I was a “good for nothing” as I was growing up. But thank God, that He seen something different in me, He changed me with His love. Lord my prayer is that I will always be ready to hear, apply, and obey your Word in my Life.

  29. For as the girdle cleaveth to the loins of a man,

    11

so have I caused to cleave unto me the whole house of Israel and the whole house of Judah, saith the Lord; that they might be unto me for a people, and for a name, and for a praise, and for a glory: but they would not hear.
more than anything God desires relationship with his people. In this verse we see God wanting to wrap them in his arms and cleave to them but instead he was rejected…Lord help me to never reject your love on my life no later what…

  30. Thus saith the Lord unto me, Go and get thee a linen girdle, and put it upon thy loins,

    PROTECT YOUR REPRODUCTION!!!!!!

What are we reproducing? Our actions are reproduced in the people that fallow us.

    Attitude reflects Leadership.

We reproduce the attitudes that our leaders show us. The flock reproduces after us.

We can reproduce our destiny or our destruction.

I choose to reproduce success, hard work, loyalty, kindness, love, sound mind, peace, joy, happiness….

My children WILL see a victorious father. We WILL raise victorious children!!

You choose what you produce. Gird your loins

  31. Obedience.
He had to be obedient to The Lord when The Lord told him what to do. God didn’t tell him everything at once. He got it in phases. We must listen and obey the step by step directions of The Lord to prove our faithfulness before he can reveal his heart to us. There is no reason that God should reveal his heart if we don’t/won’t obey.

  32. Alliance

    Jeremiah 13:21 NLT
What will you say when the LORD takes the allies you have cultivated and appoints them as your rulers? Pangs of anguish will grip you, like those of a woman in labor!

Who is your ally? We usually think of allies positively, as ones who help us, but that is not always the case. Being an ally is about cooperation, about walking in agreement.

Amos 3:3 Can two walk together, except they be agreed?

We must examine our lives and ask, “What or who am I walking with? What or who am I in alliance with?” If we find ourselves in an alliance outside the will of God, there will be trouble. Walking outside the will of God means coming out of agreement with God and coming into the agreement of the enemy. A leaky boat is a sinking boat; we must patch up the holes in our life through agreement with God and full submission to Him so we are not brought down by the sins and weights of this life.

It comes with every day making up our minds again to humble ourselves to come into agreement with God and taking more ground than the day before. The constant battle against our soul can be wearisome but our strength and rest is in God. He is the only ally who can give us true victory, and we must strive to eliminate any other conflicting alliance.

    Romans 12:1-2
1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. 2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

  33. Absence of light

16 Give glory to the Lord your God, before he cause darkness, and before your feet stumble upon the dark mountains, and, while ye look for light, he turn it into the shadow of death, and make it gross darkness.

… it is said that you cannot create darkness because it is simply the absence of light. Through your walk with God you are given a choice, you make your life brighter by adding light (reading/studying, praying, fasting) or you simply choose to walk into darkness where God cannot follow you. He is not making the decision to leave you, you are deciding you don’t need Him. You can’t find your way, dress yourself or live a day to day life in the dark. Youll always be astray wondering whose garment can I grab hold of to pull me in the right direction.

In my studies of deaf blind individuals, I have accumulated enough knowledge to know that every person that guides them is a person they are puttin their full trust into. Now in a spiritual sense if you can’t see or hear the way you need to go through listening to God, why are you going to place your trust in a stranger who for all you know has no direction themselves?

Who are you being led by?
Is your life filled with light or darkness?

  34. 11 For as the girdle cleaveth to the loins of a man, so have I caused to cleave unto me the whole house of Israel and the whole house of Judah, saith the Lord; that they might be unto me for a people, and for a name, and for a praise, and for a glory: but they would not hear.

We were created for His glory to worship Him, to have a close relationship with Him.

Isaiah 43:7 Everyone who is called by My name,Whom I have created for My glory;I have formed him, yes, I have made him.”

One thing that I saw here is that when you separate yourself from the presence of God and the man of God in your life, you will rot. We are to reproduce and generate fruit but in order to do so we must stay, cleave to the Vine. When we allow pride to come in, it also brings rebellion…just ask the devil. Rebellion that says I, I, I with a stench of pride. We are made to worship, glorify and honor the Lord Jesus and him alone. Pride I call the “I” idol Outside of Jesus we are nothing and cannot do anything. Let us pray to maintain a humble heart and attitude, and to know him more intimately that we may become His people for renown, for praise, and for glory…

Proverbs 16:18-19 Pride goes before destruction,And a haughty spirit before a fall. Better to be of a humble spirit with the lowly,Than to divide the spoil with the proud.

  35. If we allow rebellion in our lives it will destroy us including our families. Fear God NOW. Get behind me devil, lets pick ourselves up from any and all downfalls and follow the commands that God has placed for us.

Lord have mercy on me, you are the light that I seek, strenghten me. Lord help me to do your will.

I praise your Holy name Lord.

  36. Their pride had totally blinded the people. They refused to hear the man of of God and he warns them that because they have hardened their hearts now, that God will refuse to have pity on them when they cry out to him when judgement does come.

We must ask God to shape & mold us everyday. Our tears keep our hearts tender to Him. Lord help to hear AND heed the warnings of my Pastor.

  37. Then the Lord said unto me, The prophets

    14

prophesy lies in my name: I sent them not, neither have I commanded them, neither spake unto them: they prophesy unto you a false vision and divination, and a thing of nought, and the deceit of their heart.

Therefore thus saith the Lord concerning the

    15

prophets that prophesy in my name, and I sent them not, yet they say, Sword and famine shall not be in this land; By sword and famine shall those prophets be consumed.
God cares about his word being spoken in truth. we are not to add to or take away from God’s Word but to speak the truth as he speaks it.

  38. V 26
    Exposed folly

Therefore will I discover thy skirts upon thy face , that thy shame may appear .
    NET
So I will pull your skirt up over your face and expose you to shame like a disgraced adulteress!

When we continue is straight abomination and idolatry God will expose our shame. This is often a move of desperation to draw us to repentance. The light will expose all darkness. We’ve seen it time and time again in politics. Nothing goes unseen.

  39. Staying Useful

God uses this object lesson to illistrate how the people of Judah once were close to God and played an important role among the nations. Like the linen belt, or loincloth, Judah was once a healthy, prosperous nation that honored God’s laws. But Judah’s pride and willingness to mix with the surrounding nations ‘trying to fit in’ rot away her usefulness, and she becomes like the belt ruined among the rocks. Pride, compromise and indifference eat away at our hearts too. We lose our usefulness and are “no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled by men” (Mt 5:13). But humility and repentance -as modeled by the prophet Jeremiah- can keep us effective servants for God. God can use anyone: men and women: young and old, children, and animals. God if you can use anything Lord, you can use me. Its my responsibility to repent of my prideful, dirty, sinful rags. Thank you Lord for your blood that washes clean as snow.
