Jeremiah 15

1 Then said the Lord unto me, Though Moses and Samuel stood before me, yet my mind could not be toward this people: cast them out of my sight, and let them go forth.

And it shall come to pass, if they say unto thee, Whither shall we go forth? then thou shalt tell them, Thus saith theLord; Such as are for death, to death; and such as are for the sword, to the sword; and such as are for the famine, to the famine; and such as are for the captivity, to the captivity.

And I will appoint over them four kinds, saith the Lord: the sword to slay, and the dogs to tear, and the fowls of the heaven, and the beasts of the earth, to devour and destroy.

And I will cause them to be removed into all kingdoms of the earth, because of Manasseh the son of Hezekiah king of Judah, for that which he did in Jerusalem.

For who shall have pity upon thee, O Jerusalem? or who shall bemoan thee? or who shall go aside to ask how thou doest?

Thou hast forsaken me, saith the Lord, thou art gone backward: therefore will I stretch out my hand against thee, and destroy thee; I am weary with repenting.

And I will fan them with a fan in the gates of the land; I will bereave them of children, I will destroy my people since they return not from their ways.

Their widows are increased to me above the sand of the seas: I have brought upon them against the mother of the young men a spoiler at noonday: I have caused him to fall upon it suddenly, and terrors upon the city.

She that hath borne seven languisheth: she hath given up the ghost; her sun is gone down while it was yet day: she hath been ashamed and confounded: and the residue of them will I deliver to the sword before their enemies, saith the Lord.

10 Woe is me, my mother, that thou hast borne me a man of strife and a man of contention to the whole earth! I have neither lent on usury, nor men have lent to me on usury; yet every one of them doth curse me.

11 The Lord said, Verily it shall be well with thy remnant; verily I will cause the enemy to entreat thee well in the time of evil and in the time of affliction.

12 Shall iron break the northern iron and the steel?

13 Thy substance and thy treasures will I give to the spoil without price, and that for all thy sins, even in all thy borders.

14 And I will make thee to pass with thine enemies into a land which thou knowest not: for a fire is kindled in mine anger, which shall burn upon you.

15 O Lord, thou knowest: remember me, and visit me, and revenge me of my persecutors; take me not away in thy longsuffering: know that for thy sake I have suffered rebuke.

16 Thy words were found, and I did eat them; and thy word was unto me the joy and rejoicing of mine heart: for I am called by thy name, O Lord God of hosts.

17 I sat not in the assembly of the mockers, nor rejoiced; I sat alone because of thy hand: for thou hast filled me with indignation.

18 Why is my pain perpetual, and my wound incurable, which refuseth to be healed? wilt thou be altogether unto me as a liar, and as waters that fail?

19 Therefore thus saith the Lord, If thou return, then will I bring thee again, and thou shalt stand before me: and if thou take forth the precious from the vile, thou shalt be as my mouth: let them return unto thee; but return not thou unto them.

20 And I will make thee unto this people a fenced brasen wall: and they shall fight against thee, but they shall not prevail against thee: for I am with thee to save thee and to deliver thee, saith the Lord.

21 And I will deliver thee out of the hand of the wicked, and I will redeem thee out of the hand of the terrible.

  1. 16 Thy words were found, and I did eat them; and thy word was unto me the joy and rejoicing of mine heart: for I am called by thy name, O Lord God of hosts.

Jeremiah is pleading his case, much like David did…

    Psalm 119:11,16-17 KJV
[11] Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee. [16] I will delight myself in thy statutes: I will not forget thy word.
[17] Deal bountifully with thy servant, that I may live, and keep thy word.

  2. 15 O Lord, thou knowest: remember me, and visit me, and revenge me of my persecutors; take me not away in thy long suffering: know that for thy sake I have suffered rebuke.

16 Thy words were found, and I did eat them; and thy word was unto me the joy and rejoicing of mine heart: for I am called by thy name, O Lord God of hosts.

    SUFFER FOR THE LORD

    1 Peter 3:14 & 17

    14 But and if ye suffer for righteousness’ sake, happy are ye: and be not afraid of their terror, neither be troubled;

17 For it is better, if the will of God be so, that ye suffer for well doing, than for evil doing.

When we suffer for the sake of righteousness we should be happy! If we suffer for the will of God it is better to suffer for well doing than evil.
I like the prayer of Jeremiah, we should learn from this the way to approach God.
    1. Thou Know all things
    2. Remember me and what I have did.
    3. Visit me, God I want feel your presence
    4. Revenge me of my persecutors, Lord you know who my persecutors are and can help me I can not raise a hand.
    5. I know you are a long suffering God, remember me and do not forget me in thy long suffering.
    6. For thy sake I have suffered rebuke.

Yes Lord thy words were found in my mouth (what a report, can we say we have the words of God in our mouth) I did eat them.
I ate your words, what a powerful statement.
Your word brought Joy and Rejoicing to my heart.
For I am called by thy Name.

How much better can it get JOY AND REJOICING IN MY HEART OVER THE WORD OF GOD.
THEN I AM CALLED BY YOUR NAME, JESUS, THE PEOPLE OF THE NAME.

Let me suffer for the Lord, I know all things will end well.

  3. 18 Why is my pain perpetual, and my wound incurable, which refuseth to be healed? wilt thou be altogether unto me as a liar, and as waters that fail?

When I first read this I said to myself, Jeremiah why would you talk to God that way? But God said I know your heart and if something is in your heart and you won’t speak it then I know you are hiding from me.

The only way to build a true relationship is to be honest and speak clearly.

Let God hear you confess where you are in your heart. He knows anyway. But when you confess it he knows that you are ready for him to do something.

    Gen 3:
9 And the LORD God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where [art] thou?
10 And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I [was] naked; and I hid myself.
11 And he said, Who told thee that thou [wast] naked? Hast thou eaten of the tree, whereof I commanded thee that thou shouldest not eat?

God knew where Adam, there were 2 reasons for him asking where Adam was:

    1. Adam don’t know where Adam was.
Adam had gone into a place he had never gone before and God realized that Adam was lost. God had to awake Adams mind out of the sin long enough for Adam to realize where he was.

    2. God wanted Adam to know where God was. God calls for us when we go away from him so that we realize who he is agin and start making our way back to him.

19 Therefore thus saith the Lord, If thou return, then will I bring thee again, and thou shalt stand before me: and if thou take forth the precious from the vile, thou shalt be as my mouth: let them return unto thee; but return not thou unto them.

God is eager to bless us. We just have to be honest with him and ourselves. Don’t hide from God and he won’t hide from you.

  4. vs 6 We should always go forward. Move toward the Lord not away. There is no blessing away from God. Think about driving. Is it easier to go forward or backward? You can see better going forward. Get closer to God and he will direct your path.

  5. 6 Thou hast forsaken me, saith the Lord, thou art gone backward: therefore will I stretch out my hand against thee, and destroy thee; I am weary with repenting.

Does God get tired of the sinner that “repents,” but does not repent in their heart? Going through the motions will only get you so far in life. I believe that God is faith and just to forgive us , as long as we are sincere about it. I believe the best way to say it is its like a child that says I’ll stop… ,and does it again. A parent will eventually get tired of what ever it is and correct them. This is what God does, he stretches out His hand and corrects us.

  6. SOUL NOURISHMENT

16 Thy words were found, and I did eat them; and thy word was unto me the joy and rejoicing of mine heart: for I am called by thy name, O Lord God of hosts.

The word “FOUND” there is the KEY to this verse. There are 2 reasons that something is “FOUND”.

    1. If it is LOST it must be FOUND.

    2. If something is UNKNOWN it must be FOUND.

All of us seeking the LORD through worship, hunger or desperation find ourselves in one of these 2 places. We are either seeking to restore something we lost, whether PRAYER, PRAISE, GIVING, SINGING, JOY, PEACE, RIGHTEOUSNESS, HOLINESS, HUMILITY, SERVANTHOOD. We must examine and evaluate if we have LOST something and GO after IT. Seek like there is no tomorrow, search until we find IT.

    or

We are seeking to know something about our GOD that will give us understanding, power, instruction, peace, joy, redemption, eternity, salvation or victory through forgiveness.

When we find HIS words, we are responsible for what we do with them. They may not be Keylime Pie, or Chocolate Cake, they may be green peas and broccoli. Whether the words we find are sweet or sour we must have a made up mind that we are HUNGRY for what GOD has for me.

He knows what our needs and the direction of our heart before we ever approach GOD in prayer or supplication. Like Jeremiah many people find themselves the victim of someone else’s decision. We cannot control the decisions of others, however I can control my decisions.

I choose the LORD JESUS and HIS WORDS for my LIFE. Im HUNGRY for more of JESUS, i will commit to eat (CONSUME) every word I find.

    Thank you JESUS!

    iPraise
    iPray
    iWork
    iGive
    iReap

    NOW

    • When we find his word, we are responsible for what we do with it.
      GREAT statement!
GOD – HAD- given me a word, an I lost it some how… BUT!!! Praise GOD it’s been found.
I am responsible GOD has given me another chance. And I will not take it for granted.
Thank you for the wise words this morning.

  7. AINT NOBODY GOT TIME FOR DAT

17 I sat not in the assembly of the mockers, nor rejoiced; I sat alone because of thy hand: for thou hast filled me with indignation.

Get AWAY from mockers and naysayers.

Our GOD is ABLE to do EXCEEDING abundantly above ALL that we can ask or think.

    YEAH!
    HALLELUJAH!

  8. About My Fathers Business

This is how God answered me: “Take back those words, and I’ll take you back. Then you’ll stand tall before me. Use words truly and well. Don’t stoop to cheap whining. Then, but only then, you’ll speak for me. Let your words change them. Don’t change your words to suit them. I’ll turn you into a steel wall, a thick steel wall, impregnable. They’ll attack you but won’t put a dent in you because I’m at your side, defending and delivering.” God ’s Decree. “I’ll deliver you from the grip of the wicked. I’ll get you out of the clutch of the ruthless.” (Jeremiah 15:19-21 MSG)

“Let your words change them. Don’t change your words to suit them.”
Jesus has always been about being after his fathers business. He didn’t come to meet the needs of the people but to serve His father. If we allow Him to teach us how He wants us to walk, talk etc we please Him. Even if the people around us don’t agree. Like the scripture said the peoples attacks won’t put a dent in us because we will be after our fathers business. Who are you serving ?.

  9. Jeremiah 15:18,19,20,21. NLT
WHy then does my suffering continue?
Why is my wound so incurable?
Your help seems as uncertain as a seasonal brook,
Like a spring that has gone dry.
    19. This is how The Lord responds:
“If you return to me, I will restore you, so you can continue to serve me.
If you speak good words rather than worthless ones, you will be my spokesman.
YOU MUST INFLUENCE THEM; do not let them influence you!
    20.they will fight against you
Like an attacking army, but I will make you as secure as a fortified wall of bronze.
    They will not conquer you,
For I am with you to protect
    And rescue you.
    I, The Lord have spoken!
    21. Yes I will certainly keep you save from these wicked men.
I will rescue you from their cruel hand.

    💛😀 PRAISE GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It is written now, let’s do it!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you LORD for your fresh daily mercies. In JESUS name, AMEN!

  10. 19 Therefore thus saith the Lord, If thou return, then will I bring thee again, and thou shalt stand before me: and if thou take forth the precious from the vile, thou shalt be as my mouth: let them return unto thee; but return not thou unto them.

  11. Its time to repent and come home.

21 And I will deliver thee out of the hand of the wicked, and I will redeem thee out of the hand of the terrible

Even as it seems there is no time to turn back. God has mercy on us all, allowing us the opportunity to repent and change our ways. On this day, this very moment, what is holding you back? This is your time to make up your mind to Repent and come home. The Lord promises to work with you during your process and give you and I victory over whatever hold you back from him.

  12. iLove to eat the Word

    “What Do We Enjoy?”

16 Thy words were found, and I did eat them; and thy word was unto me the joy and rejoicing of mine heart: for I am called by thy name, O Lord God of hosts.

Whenever the Word of God is preached, the Word must first pass through our ears which then goes through our mind. As the Word is being preached, it penetrates into our spirit. One of the true tests that reveal to us our spiritual condition is joy.

This is why the majority of our society is infatuated with the Entertainment Industry. Anything and everything goes today as long as it makes us laugh. The test is, “What do we enjoy the most?” Does course and rude behavior through a sit com bring true joy, or does the hearing of the Word bring true joy?

When the preacher preaches, he shouldn’t have to tell us to smile, but as the Word enters it should cause us to rejoice NO MATTER WHO OR WHAT NEGITIVE CIRCUMSTANCES ARE GOING ON AROUND US.

  13. 19 Therefore thus saith the Lord, If thou return, then will I bring thee again, and thou shalt stand before me: and if thou take forth the precious from the vile, thou shalt be as my mouth: let them return unto thee; but return not thou unto them.

God releases his frustration about the way the people have turned to other Gods and walked in ungodly ways, and tells the prophet what their end will be. Yet, He still gives them another opportunity to turn around and make things right and tells them what their end will be if they do. God has always desired a relationship with this creation and He does everything he can, outside of their own will for that to happen. It’s up to us, we make the the choice by our daily decisions. “Choose you this day whom you will serve. Let nothing stand in your way, give Him the praise He deserves. As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord!”

  14. Eat the word.

16 Thy words were found, and I did eat them; and thy word was unto me the joy and rejoicing of mine heart: for I am called by thy name, O Lord God of hosts.

Psalm 119:103 How sweet are thy words unto my taste! yea, sweeter than honey to my mouth!
104 Through thy precepts I get understanding: therefore I hate every false way.

Thankful that our Pastor makes it easy for us to come and dine. His word is sweet. Lord don’t let one day go without us seeking, finding, and eating your word, so our hearts can be filled with joy and rejoicing, for I am called by thy name. If we were a team our uniform will say Jesus Christ for we are called by His Name. Praise God!!!!!!

  15. 15 Then I said, “Lord, you know what’s happening to me. Please step in and help me. Punish my persecutors! Please give me time; don’t let me die young. It’s for your sake that I am suffering.
16 When I discovered your words, I devoured them. They are my joy and my heart’s delight, for I bear your name, (NLT)

God knows all and sees all, so don’t doubt or question God whenever you feel you are facing a bad situation. He has and desires the best for you, but at the same time we must be obedient and make the right choices.

Suffering for His Name’s sake is good and ends with reward. So through the suffering, continue to find joy in His word; consume and desire His word as if you were hungry for real food.

  16. 21 And I will deliver thee out of the hand of the wicked, and I will redeem thee out of the hand of the terrible.

The Lord has our back, what an awesome God we serve. Lord your mercy endureth forever.

Lord lead me and guide me each and every day so I won’t fall between the cracks of the wicked.

  17. This chapter illustrates awareness. Their time was at hand; “Though Moses and Samuel stood before me, yet my mind could not be toward this people”. There comes a time when one must determine in one’s own mind; For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace”. What a mighty God we serve! May the good Lord Bless you all in Jesus name, Amen

  18. 16 Thy words were found, and I did eat them; and thy word was unto me the joy and rejoicing of mine heart: for I am called by thy name, O Lord God of hosts.

17 I sat not in the assembly of the mockers, nor rejoiced; I sat alone because of thy hand: for thou hast filled me with indignation.

Hungry for You Lord and not this world.. Hunger is a very powerful motivation that will get you to do things you think you wouldn’t or couldn’t, but it’s a desperate state and a need that must be met to survive. I got a mental picture of a homeless individual going into a trash can in search for some bread. When your hungry you’ll do anything to satisfy the longing. Have you fed your soul and spirit today? Sometimes theyre screaming in desperation for some spiritual food that would strengthen, nourish and bring joy. We get grumpy if we miss a meal, some even get headaches, others feel weak, imagine our spirit, our souls…if we go one day without His Living Word. Wow! It makes me think, am I getting all the nutrients for my life from His words? Is there joy, peace, strength, or could it be that my soul is screaming of hunger?

Psalm 1:1-3 Blessed is the manWho walks not in the counsel of the ungodly,Nor stands in the path of sinners,Nor sits in the seat of the scornful; But his delight is in the law of the Lord,And in His law he meditates day and night. He shall be like a treePlanted by the rivers of water,That brings forth its fruit in its season,Whose leaf also shall not wither; And whatever he does shall prosper.

“Lord I hunger for You, for your presence, for your fragrance, for your power.
Hunger that hurts, hunger that weakens… in desperation, for You.
    Lord I hunger for You..”

  19. Because of Manasseh

4 And I will cause them to be removed into all kingdoms of the earth, because of Manasseh the son of Hezekiah king of Judah, for that which he did in Jerusalem.

Mannaseh was the son of Hezekiah who had lived his life for God. Yet the end of his life he turned away. He allowed Babylon into his home. His actions placed everyone of his children on the road toward destruction. Sadly there never arose a king to teach the people to unlearn his ways. After the rebellion of the people, and God warning them they refused to change. This however all goes back to the actions of their father, the one they obeyed.

This challenges me to take everything I do in front of my children seriously. The Bible tells us very plainly how it happens.

    Proverbs 22:6
Train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old he will not depart from it.

The word train means dedicate, inagurate, discipline.

Mounce’s says train means to devote an object to a deity.

Whatever we are doing is drawing our children toward either God, or an idol. When they are old they will serve who you chose to serve. Whether your god is entertainment, money, or a job they will learn it.

Jesus made it very simple for us to understand when he spoke to the Pharisees.

John 8:47 He that is of God heareth God’s words: ye therefore hear them not, because ye are not of God.

Heareth means hearken and obey. 🙂

What a joy to know that when we live for God we prepare future generations to walk with him as well.

  20. We don’t want to see the wrath of God, but rather see his blessings and his hedge of protection. Key Word “RETURN”……………….

    “Be blessed”…………………………………….

  21. Thou hast forsaken me, saith the Lord, thou art gone backward: therefore will I stretch out my hand against thee, and destroy thee; I am weary with repenting. (Jeremiah 15:6 KJV)

If God never changes, and he doesn’t, then we ought not tempt God! If he has become weary of the repenting of these people what makes us think we are any different. We must watch our actions and change our hearts. Words are just words if our actions do not support them. Support your words! Let your repentance be true. Don’t just say, “sorry God,” and do it again. He knows and he will get tire of you too.

  22. Even through all of our failures and coming up short of being worthy of Gods love he over and over again never ceases to amazes me!

  23. 16 Thy words were found, and I did eat them; and thy word was unto me the joy and rejoicing of mine heart: for I am called by thy name, O Lord God of hosts.

As your words came to me I drank them in, and they filled my heart with joy and happiness because I belong to you. -Jeremiah 15:16

Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee. -Psalms 119:11

Daily pursuit into the word of God is important to us. It is in this pursuit that we truly find that place we long for.

  24. Part of verses 15-18 MSG “….When your words showed up, I ate them–swallowed them whole. What a feast! What delight I took in being yours, O God, God-of-the-Angel-Armies!…”

    Psalm 37:4 NLT
Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you your heart’s desires.

  25. God is not mocked

Then the LORD said to me, “Even if Moses and Samuel stood before me pleading for these people, I would not feel pity for them! Get them away from me! Tell them to go away! If they ask you, ‘Where should we go?’ tell them the LORD says this: “Those who are destined to die of disease will go to death by disease. Those who are destined to die in war will go to death in war. Those who are destined to die of starvation will go to death by starvation. Those who are destined to go into exile will go into exile.”

Gal 6:7 Do not be deceived. God will not be made a fool. For a person will reap what he sows

These people rebelled against God and continued in idolatry. god ran out of patience and have them over to destruction. The same fate can happen to us. We need to be thankful for the grace God gives us because we all deserve this treatment. Praise god for grace.

  26. Faithfulness

    Jeremiah 15:18-21 NLT
18 Why then does my suffering continue? Why is my wound so incurable? Your help seems as uncertain as a seasonal brook, like a spring that has gone dry.” 19 This is how the LORD responds: “If you return to me, I will restore you so you can continue to serve me. If you speak good words rather than worthless ones, you will be my spokesman. You must influence them; do not let them influence you! 20 They will fight against you like an attacking army, but I will make you as secure as a fortified wall of bronze. They will not conquer you, for I am with you to protect and rescue you. I, the LORD, have spoken! 21 Yes, I will certainly keep you safe from these wicked men. I will rescue you from their cruel hands.”

Sometimes we go through seasons that seem unfair, like God is no being God. Yet we must trust in His moulding hand. He knows what we must go through to be prepared for His work and purpose. Jeremiah cries out to God concerning his faithfulness and God responds by calling him to the next level. There were seeming impurities to be found in him still that God was working out. He had a purpose for Jeremiah but there was preparation that needed to be finished. We will not always understand but we must trust in God and be faithful through every season. He knows what is best and remains in control.

    Psalms 139:23-24
23 Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: 24 And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.

    Romans 8:28
And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

  27. Mighty Warrior

In Exodus 14:14 God reassures His people, “The Lord will fight for you.” But now in Jeremiah, God turns from protecting His people to punishing them. God’s judgment to punishing them. God’s judgment -to “make their widows more numerous that the sand of the sea” (Jer 15:8) -is a distrubing reversal of His promise to Abraham- to “make [his] descendants like the sand of the sea.” (Ge 32:12). Regardless of social status, no woman will escape the impending disaster. Even the royal romen will be exiled (Jer 38:22-23) and the wives of landowners handed over to enemies (Jer 6:12). Hebrew family structure, the center of Hebrew society, will be destroyed when Babylon conquers them. The progressive destruction of Judah is pictured in the killing of the men, then the widows and mothers. God, the “mighty warrior” (Jer 20:11), exasperated by persistent sin, fights against, rather than for, His people.
