Jeremiah 16

1 The word of the Lord came also unto me, saying,

Thou shalt not take thee a wife, neither shalt thou have sons or daughters in this place.

For thus saith the Lord concerning the sons and concerning the daughters that are born in this place, and concerning their mothers that bare them, and concerning their fathers that begat them in this land;

They shall die of grievous deaths; they shall not be lamented; neither shall they be buried; but they shall be as dung upon the face of the earth: and they shall be consumed by the sword, and by famine; and their carcases shall be meat for the fowls of heaven, and for the beasts of the earth.

For thus saith the Lord, Enter not into the house of mourning, neither go to lament nor bemoan them: for I have taken away my peace from this people, saith the Lord, even lovingkindness and mercies.

Both the great and the small shall die in this land: they shall not be buried, neither shall men lament for them, nor cut themselves, nor make themselves bald for them:

Neither shall men tear themselves for them in mourning, to comfort them for the dead; neither shall men give them the cup of consolation to drink for their father or for their mother.

Thou shalt not also go into the house of feasting, to sit with them to eat and to drink.

For thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will cause to cease out of this place in your eyes, and in your days, the voice of mirth, and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom, and the voice of the bride.

10 And it shall come to pass, when thou shalt shew this people all these words, and they shall say unto thee, Wherefore hath the Lord pronounced all this great evil against us? or what is our iniquity? or what is our sin that we have committed against the Lord our God?

11 Then shalt thou say unto them, Because your fathers have forsaken me, saith the Lord, and have walked after other gods, and have served them, and have worshipped them, and have forsaken me, and have not kept my law;

12 And ye have done worse than your fathers; for, behold, ye walk every one after the imagination of his evil heart, that they may not hearken unto me:

13 Therefore will I cast you out of this land into a land that ye know not, neither ye nor your fathers; and there shall ye serve other gods day and night; where I will not shew you favour.

14 Therefore, behold, the days come, saith the Lord, that it shall no more be said, The Lord liveth, that brought up the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt;

15 But, The Lord liveth, that brought up the children of Israel from the land of the north, and from all the lands whither he had driven them: and I will bring them again into their land that I gave unto their fathers.

16 Behold, I will send for many fishers, saith the Lord, and they shall fish them; and after will I send for many hunters, and they shall hunt them from every mountain, and from every hill, and out of the holes of the rocks.

17 For mine eyes are upon all their ways: they are not hid from my face, neither is their iniquity hid from mine eyes.

18 And first I will recompense their iniquity and their sin double; because they have defiled my land, they have filled mine inheritance with the carcases of their detestable and abominable things.

19 O Lord, my strength, and my fortress, and my refuge in the day of affliction, the Gentiles shall come unto thee from the ends of the earth, and shall say, Surely our fathers have inherited lies, vanity, and things wherein there is no profit.

20 Shall a man make gods unto himself, and they are no gods?

21 Therefore, behold, I will this once cause them to know, I will cause them to know mine hand and my might; and they shall know that my name is The Lord.

  1. 4 They shall die of grievous deaths; they shall not be lamented; neither shall they be buried; but they shall be as dung upon the face of the earth: and they shall be consumed by the sword, and by famine; and their carcases shall be meat for the fowls of heaven, and for the beasts of the earth.

    God has decided to waste this People…will they make it worth the waste? When God wastes something in our lives, it’s up to us by how we respond whether it was worth it or not. Great teaching by Pastor last night!

  2. HALELUJAH!!! HALELUJAH!!! HALELUJAH!!!
    17 For mine eyes are upon all their ways: they are not hid from my face, neither is their iniquity hid from mine eyes.
    SANTO SANTO SANTO!!! YES MY DADDY SEES EVERYTHING!!! IF IT WEREN’T FOR THE FEAR OF THE LORD………. HALELUJAH!!! HALELUJAH!!! HALELUJAH!!! THANK YOU JESUS!!!
    2 Chronicles 16:9 (KJV)
    9 For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to shew himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him. Herein thou hast done foolishly: therefore from henceforth thou shalt have wars.

  3. 19 O Lord, my strength, and my fortress, and my refuge in the day of affliction, the Gentiles shall come unto thee from the ends of the earth, and shall say, Surely our fathers have inherited lies, vanity, and things wherein there is no profit.

    20 Shall a man make gods unto himself, and they are no gods?

    21 Therefore, behold, I will this once cause them to know, I will cause them to know mine hand and my might; and they shall know that my name is The Lord.

    GOD WILL SHOW HIS POWER

    God will cause them to know. God has chosen to cause people to know his power, see him move by his might.
    God’s power is so great he can do all things for gentiles as well as Jews. I am so glad to see the power of God in action. There is no limit to what God can do, He is able to move for whosoever will and do whatever needs to be done.
    God can heal all manner of diseases, raise the dead, he can even heal our finances.
    The word teaches us that God is my fortress, he is my help in time of trouble. Thank God he is my strong tower I can run into for help.
    If we trust in God he will show us his power!!!
    Obey the word all allow God to move in our life, make no other God’s in our life.
    LET JESUS BE LORD OF OUR LIVES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  4. 10 “When you tell these people all this and they ask you, ‘Why has the Lord decreed such a great disaster against us? What wrong have we done? What sin have we committed against the Lord our God?’ 11 then say to them, ‘It is because your ancestors forsook me,’ declares the Lord, ‘and followed other gods and served and worshiped them. They forsook me and did not keep my law. 12 But you have behaved more wickedly than your ancestors. See how all of you are following the stubbornness of your evil hearts instead of obeying me. 13 So I will throw you out of this land into a land neither you nor your ancestors have known, and there you will serve other gods day and night, for I will show you no favor.’ NIV

    What idols do you have in your life? As Pastor preached last night “Worth the Waste”, is it worth it to have idols in our life and not serve the one true God. Idols could be anything that you put before God. God help us not to put idols in front of our eyes and to only focus on the one true living God.

    You shall have no other gods before me. “You shall not make for yourself a carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. You shall not bow down to them or serve them, for I the Lord your God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and the fourth generation of those who hate me, but showing steadfast love to thousands of those who love me and keep my commandments. Exodus 20:3-6 ESV
    As parents be careful what you are doing cause your kids are watching you and other people are watching you also. You never know who is watching you, Lord help us not to be a stumbling block for anyone.

  5. 13 Therefore will I cast you out of this land into a land that ye know not, neither ye nor your fathers; and there shall ye serve other gods day and night; where I will not shew you favour.

    To not have God’s favor is a dangerous position. Sin will disallow you from being in God’s favor. It has brought down many people who that they could sin for a season and still have the favor of God. Be not deceived, God is not mocked. The safest place in the world is in the will of God.

  6. The Lord says, “Now I will show them my power; now I will show them my might. At last they will know and understand that I am the Lord. (Jeremiah 16:21 NLT)

    Obey The Lord and we will see what He has in store for us! He loves us and He wants to be heard. I don’t want to have any idols before God because He is a jealous God and He will get His way one way or another!

    Lord thank you for moving in my life and keeping me in your arms. I pray you would open my eyes so that I could see if there are any idols in my life where they should not be. Hallelujah!!

  7. TRICKLE DOWN MORALITY

    10 And it shall come to pass, when thou shalt shew this people all these words, and they shall say unto thee, Wherefore hath the Lord pronounced all this great evil against us? or what is our iniquity? or what is our sin that we have committed against the Lord our God?
    11 Then shalt thou say unto them, Because your fathers have forsaken me, saith the Lord, and have walked after other gods, and have served them, and have worshipped them, and have forsaken me, and have not kept my law;
    12 And ye have done worse than your fathers; for, behold, ye walk every one after the imagination of his evil heart, that they may not hearken unto me:

    It is very concerning to me to witness some of the shady, deceitful, rebellious acts of adults. Parents and the unmarried without child alike. Some are living lives in the shadows of darkness, shady acts of selfish desire, withholding some of the story. Some are living under the tent of deceit, covering up, pasts that are infected with poor decisions, and bad choices. Some just flat out rebel against the LORD; his WORD, his VOICE and his PREACHER. All of these are choosing a path for children that will be destructive.

    Be PRAYERFUL mom and dad, be careful young adult, our decisions are defining a future for our children and our children’s children. Either in the FAVOR of GOD or the wrath of GOD.

    I read a book several years ago and have reread a few times in the past 15 years. “Trickle Down Morality” it identifies this very chapter in the fact that one generations low point becomes the next generations high point and over the years, convictions of right and wrong are lost because parents cannot cover up what their children SEE.

    I pray for every parent to evaluate your decisions daily, how will your decision affect your children in the eyes of GOD. You may get by with it, but your children are not able, they do not understand. Let us all prayerfully consider our decisions in the eyes of the LORD.

    GOD will judge our children if we fail to HONOR him as LORD. Many are living in the BLESSING of RIGHTEOUS decisions their parents made.

  8. 10 And it shall come to pass, when thou shalt shew this people all these words, and they shall say unto thee, Wherefore hath the Lord pronounced all this great evil against us? or what is our iniquity? or what is our sin that we have committed against the Lord our God?

    11 Then shalt thou say unto them, Because your fathers have forsaken me, saith the Lord, and have walked after other gods, and have served them, and have worshipped them, and have forsaken me, and have not kept my law;

    I don’t want my children to pay for my wrong doing, but I want them to be blessed and want to live for God because they saw me living for God and setting an example for them to follow !!

  9. Who do you serve?

    21 Therefore, behold, I will this once cause them to know, I will cause them to know mine hand and my might; and they shall know that my name is The Lord.

    We serve a jealous God. When we make anything in our lives a god, He does not like that. I have one mom, and she will always be my mother that I love very much. But, she gets mad when I spend more time with my friends than I do at the house. This is how God feels when we spend more time with our friends out in the world, than spending time with Him at His house. Since God created us ,we are His. And that’s why He is jealous.

  10. 12 And ye have done worse than your fathers; for, behold, ye walk every one after the imagination of his evil heart, that they may not hearken unto me:

    Sometimes even our heart’s will device us, if our desires don’t line up with the word of God it would be dangerous to chase after them. Above all things guard Your heart.. We must keep our minds on God and our ears open to his word.

  11. 11 Then shalt thou say unto them, Because your fathers have forsaken me, saith the Lord, and have walked after other gods, and have served them, and have worshipped them, and have forsaken me, and have not kept my law;

    If we want to live in the favor of The Lord, we must follow the principles listed above that Israel did not follow: Do not forsake The Lord, Do not walk after other gods, Do not serve other gods, Keep the law of The Lord, Do to walk after the imagination of Evil, harken your heart unto The Lord.

    All these are key in living a life pleasing and acceptable unto The Lord.
    I give myself away to You Lord.

  12. 12.- and ye have done worse than your fathers; for be hold ye walk everyone after the imagination of your evil heart that they may not harken unto me.
    ——
    Psalm 25:11,12for the sake of your name , LORD
    Forgive my iniquity though it is great
    12.who, then are those who fear The Lord? He will instruct them in the way they should choose.

  13. You can’t hide from God.

    When someone is beginning to fall one sure sign is that they separate from the church family and begin to hide. They use insignificant excuses like didn’t have time, had to work and when I got out was too tired to go, or wasn’t feeling well. Little by Little, step by step, they fall, and our calls, our remarks that we missed them, begin to annoy them. Why? Because they found something else to call god, sometimes that something is themselves. They begin putting their enjoyment, their activities, their “whatever” before God. The end is destruction, detachment, and finally death. Look around, if you start seeing the signs towards the fall, take heed to the warnings, return home, return to God before is too late. Don’t waste your time.

  14. iLove to eat the Word

    WOW

    Looks like God was pretty ticked off.

    Lord I ask you to forgive us of all our sins. Please do not allow us to get to the place where the Children of Israel got. Thank-You Lord for a Pastor who stands in the gap for your people. Help us to catch the vision and for each of us to help carry the burden.

    17 For mine eyes are upon all their ways: they are not hid from my face, neither is their iniquity hid from mine eyes.

    The Lord is always aware of everything we do…lets just do good!

  15. This chapter illustrates observing. The Lord (Jesus) was witnessing all; “For mine eyes are upon all their ways: they are not hid from my face, neither is their iniquity hid from mine eyes”. One would be wise to recognize the hour in which it is, and also that God (Jesus) is observing all. What a mighty God we serve! May the good Lord Bless you all in Jesus name, Amen

  16. 3 For thus saith the Lord concerning the sons and concerning the daughters that are born in this place, and concerning their mothers that bare them, and concerning their fathers that begat them in this land;

  17. Vs.17, “For mine eyes are upon all their ways: they are not hid from my face, neither is their iniquity hid from mine eyes.”

    Prov.15:3 says, “The eyes of the LORD are in every place, beholding the evil and the good.”

    Num. 32:23 says, “But if ye will not do so, behold, ye have sinned against the LORD: and be sure your sin will find you out.”

    Nothing is hidden from God. He is always watching.

  18. NLT 20 Can people make their own gods?
    It so easy to make materialistic things your God without realizing it. We must be careful how we prioritize things in our life. Let us always put God first.

  19. 10 And it shall come to pass, when thou shalt shew this people all these words, and they shall say unto thee, Wherefore hath the Lord pronounced all this great evil against us? or what is our iniquity? or what is our sin that we have committed against the Lord our God?

    These people were so caught up in their own ways that they were shocked at God’s pronounced judgement. Their eyes had become dim & their ears deaf to God’s ways until they heard he was goi ng to destroy them. We must open our eyes & ears and hear from God. Get our focus off us & get it on his word & his ways. Repent today – don’t wait!

  20. 14 Therefore, behold, the days come, saith the Lord, that it shall no more be said, The Lord liveth, that brought up the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt;
    15 But, The Lord liveth, that brought up the children of Israel from the land of the north, and from all the lands whither he had driven them: and I will bring them again into their land that I gave unto their fathers.

    God is AWSOME!!! It never ceases to amaze me that He loves each of us enough to make himself real and distinct to each of us..
    We must strive to convey who He is to those around us that way they too might learn how Great He is…

  21. 15 But, The Lord liveth, that brought up the children of Israel from the land of the north, and from all the lands whither he had driven them: and I will bring them again into their land that I gave unto their fathers.

  22. This chapter illustrates the season of wrath and destruction for the people’s apostasy and idolatry. It also shows a hint of restoration after judgement is sentenced. Even in punishment we can see Gods grace. This favor and grace was given because of his promise to Abraham and the men of old who does in faith. Their faith and favor with God saved a wicked people. We must remember that God will hold true to his word and promises. When we mess up and we pay the price for our sin, God will still bless us after a season. We need to have the mind of David and continually seek Jesus.

  23. 17 I can see everything you are doing, even if you try to hide your sins from me. (CEV)

    17 For My eyes are on all their ways; they are not hidden from My face, neither is their iniquity concealed from My eyes. (AMP)

    **YOU CANNOT HIDE YOURSELF OR ANY OF YOUR FOOLISH ACTS FROM GOD!!!

    Numbers 32:23 – But if ye will not do so, behold, ye have sinned against the Lord: and be sure your sin will find you out. (KJV)

  24. Fly or Die?

    14 Therefore, behold, the days come, saith the Lord, that it shall no more be said, The Lord liveth, that brought up the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt;

    15 But, The Lord liveth, that brought up the children of Israel from the land of the north, and from all the lands whither he had driven them: and I will bring them again into their land that I gave unto their fathers.

    Joshua and Caleb heard the voice of The Lord booming toward the children of Israel.

    Numbers 14:33
    And your children shall wander in the wilderness forty years, and bear your whoredoms, until your carcases be wasted in the wilderness.

    The only two who brought back an evil report could have decided to leave right then. They could have went on their own journey, or even tried to go into the promised land themselves. Instead they chose to go with the cursed, and witness a forty year death march. They got their willingness to suffer from watching Moses.

    Hebrews 11:24-25
    By faith Moses, when he was come to years, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter; Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season;

    Too many proclaim to be Christian yet easily forget the cross. When the storms of life rage they are quick to press the eject button rather than endure another nail.

    Yet Paul said 2 Timothy 2:11-12
    It is a faithful saying:For if we be dead with him, we shall also live with him: If we suffer, we shall also reign with him:if we deny him, he also will deny us:

    The word suffer means [5702] υπομενω hypomeno 17x intrans. to remain or stay behind, when others have departed, Lk. 2:43; trans. to bear up under, endure, suffer patiently, 1 Cor. 13:7; Heb. 10:32; absol. to continue firmly, hold out, remain constant, persevere, Mt. 10:22; 24,13 [5278] See endurance, endure; persevere; stand firm; stay.

    Joshua and Caleb chose to suffer, and received a great reward. Here God tells the people they will suffer greatly but their will be a deliverance.

    It’s all worth it.

    Romans 8:18
    18 For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.

    When things get rough will we choose to fly off, and try and escape, or will we instead die to ourselves an let Christ live!?

    2 Timothy 2:10-11
    Therefore I endure all things for the elect’s sakes, that they may also obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory.
    It is a faithful saying:For if we be dead with him, we shall also live with him:

  25. Verse 19 NLT “Lord, you are my strength and fortress, my refuge in the day of trouble! Nations from around the world will come to you and say, “Our ancestors left us a foolish heritage, for they worshiped worthless idols.” We can’t afford to knowingly or unknowingly worship worthless idols (anything that we put before God) and leave our children with a foolish heritage.

    Proverbs 22:6 AMP “Train up a child in the way he should go [and in keeping with his individual gift or bent], and when he is old he will not depart from it.”

    Verse 21 NLT “The Lord says, “Now I will show them my power; now I will show them my might. At last they will know and understand that I am the Lord.”

  26. 19 O Lord, my strength, and my fortress, and my refuge in the day of affliction, the Gentiles shall come unto thee from the ends of the earth, and shall say, Surely our fathers have inherited lies, vanity, and things wherein there is no profit.

    Thank The Lord for the day of the Gentiles. I’m so glad that he opened up the opportunity for me to find salvation in him.

    There’s no God like our God. Creator and King who rules everything.

    He is my God!

  27. God told him to stay seperated. He told him that they would suffer greatly and that is why they should not mingle.

    God told him not to be fruitful! When evil mixes with godly it makes the fruit evil. In this case all of the fruit was going to be fertilizer on the ground. No one wants their fruit (especially not children) to be fertilizer for the dirt.

    The people in this passage were losing their love, joy, and peace. They lost the spiritual fruit as well as their physical (children).

  28. Therefore, behold, I will this once cause them to

    21

    know, I will cause them to know mine hand and my might; and they shall know that my name is The Lord.
    in this chapter God shows his anger towards his people because they have decided to follow their false gods. earlier in the Bible God talked about being a jealous God he does not want anyone to take his place or to be greater than he is because he is the Almighty. our praise should always be lifted to Him and Him alone. because Idols cannot save us nothing can save us but Jesus the one true God

  29. 17 For mine eyes are upon all their ways: they are not hid from my face, neither is their iniquity hid from mine eyes.

    Our ways, actions, lifestyles, routines, even our thoughts and ideas are before The Lord. We may think that we are successful at hiding something but God knows.

    Luke 8:17 esv
    For nothing is hidden that will not be made manifest, nor is anything secret that will not be known and come to light.

    Pray for the mind of Christ. Guard your thoughts. It was the thought lucifer had that caused his demise.

    Isaiah 14:13-14esv
    You said in your heart,
    ‘I will ascend to heaven;
    above the stars of God
    I will set my throne on high;
    I will sit on the mount of assembly
    in the far reaches of the north;
    I will ascend above the heights of the clouds;
    I will make myself like the Most High. ’

    Our thoughts soon become our words or actions. Define your thoughts before they define you.

    Proverbs 23:7a
    For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he:

  30. He sees everything

    There is either a double blessing or a double curse for those who know Jesus and call themselves by his name. The house of the Lord shall be kept holy. We should respect the house or the property of the Lord above all others.

  31. The Lord truly wants us to know about his Power. He will teach us of his commands and how to have a relationship with him. Fear God, no idol can compare to him.

    The Lord punishes us when we disobey his commands. Lord I pray you strengthen me and give me the wisdom, knowledge and understanding that I need to do your will.

  32. Re-Reaping

    14 Therefore, behold, the days come, saith the Lord, that it shall no more be said, The Lord liveth, that brought up the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt;

    15 But, The Lord liveth, that brought up the children of Israel from the land of the north, and from all the lands whither he had driven them: and I will bring them again into their land that I gave unto their fathers.

    There are many backsliders in this regions, and just because they walked away from God doesn’t mean He’s finished with them. They once carried the testimony of how they were saved, but now they are ripe for the testimony of how God restored them. I believe the answer comes in the next verse:

    16 Behold, I will send for many fishers, saith the Lord, and they shall fish them; and after will I send for many hunters, and they shall hunt them from every mountain, and from every hill, and out of the holes of the rocks.

    We are made fishers of men and we are sent into the harvest. We aren’t here by accident, and for the backslider it is their eternity on the line if we choose not to be our brother’s keeper. Opportunities to reach out will be there but we must be ready.

    John 4:34-35
    34 Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work. 35 Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest.

    They are ready for re-reaping NOW, it’s time to GO

  33. 21 Therefore, behold, I will this once cause them to know, I will cause them to know mine hand and my might; and they shall know that my name is The Lord.

    God plays no games.. Here we see another example of how God repays for sin and disobedience. Why then should we flirt with the world and sin, why should we temp the Almighty Powerful Living God, Jesus. He is great love but also consuming fire…
    I would rather be on His side any time and sicrifuce the flesh and it’s pleasures for a season and recieve great reward knowing that He means good to me.

    Hebrews 10:31 (NLT)
    31 It is a terrible thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

  34. Jeremiah 16:21 Therefore behold, I will this once cause them to know , I will cause them to know mine hand and my might ; and they shall know that by name is The Lord.

    Psalm 83:18 That men may know that thou, whose name alone is JEHOVAH,
    Art the most High over all the earth.

  35. 20 Shall a man make gods unto himself, and they are no gods?

    21 Therefore, behold, I will this once cause them to know, I will cause them to know mine hand and my might; and they shall know that my name is The Lord.

    He is very angry and heartbroken. As I’m reading and writing this I have to ask, is there anything that won’t let me be true to you, if i have anything that will drive you away take it all out of my life.

  36. 19 O Lord, my strength, and my fortress, and my refuge in the day of affliction, the Gentiles shall come unto thee from the ends of the earth, and shall say, Surely our fathers have inherited lies, vanity, and things wherein there is no profit.

    Thank God for being our strength. Our rock in the time of trouble.

  37. A Day Of Disaster Is Coming

    “..Because I have withdrawn my blessing, my love and my pity from this people.” (vs5). Jesus told of final destruction to come. When He did he echoes similar words like vs2 when he warned Jeremiah not to have sons or daughters in that place because he plans to destroy families with disease. As if judgment isn’t hard enough for sinful acts of a single person, they are also responsible for there wives and children. Singles should count it a blessing to have such a time to devote to the Father and His work. In Epesians Paul says that “making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil.” Our relatioship with,and work for the Father should always come 1st. Jesus made His Father’s work/ will 1st and He is our greatest example of how to be Christ-like, to be like-Him we much learn about Him, and who knew Him. Paul said “7But I wish everyone were single, just as I am. Yet each person has a special gift from God, of one kind or another.” (1 Cor 7). No matter the status of the saint of God, judgment day is coming, and I want to be souly attached to Him.

    Judgment will scatter His people, but He will send “fishermen of men” “and they will catch them” Its our comission to go catch them. He has sent us as sheep among wolves. Let’s get to work mighty men and women of God.

    John 9:4 We must quickly carry out the tasks assigned us by the one who sent us. The night is coming, and then no one can work.
