Jeremiah 19

1 Thus saith the Lord, Go and get a potter’s earthen bottle, and take of the ancients of the people, and of the ancients of the priests;

And go forth unto the valley of the son of Hinnom, which is by the entry of the east gate, and proclaim there the words that I shall tell thee,

And say, Hear ye the word of the Lord, O kings of Judah, and inhabitants of Jerusalem; Thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will bring evil upon this place, the which whosoever heareth, his ears shall tingle.

Because they have forsaken me, and have estranged this place, and have burned incense in it unto other gods, whom neither they nor their fathers have known, nor the kings of Judah, and have filled this place with the blood of innocents;

They have built also the high places of Baal, to burn their sons with fire for burnt offerings unto Baal, which I commanded not, nor spake it, neither came it into my mind:

Therefore, behold, the days come, saith the Lord, that this place shall no more be called Tophet, nor The valley of the son of Hinnom, but The valley of slaughter.

And I will make void the counsel of Judah and Jerusalem in this place; and I will cause them to fall by the sword before their enemies, and by the hands of them that seek their lives: and their carcases will I give to be meat for the fowls of the heaven, and for the beasts of the earth.

And I will make this city desolate, and an hissing; every one that passeth thereby shall be astonished and hiss because of all the plagues thereof.

And I will cause them to eat the flesh of their sons and the flesh of their daughters, and they shall eat every one the flesh of his friend in the siege and straitness, wherewith their enemies, and they that seek their lives, shall straiten them.

10 Then shalt thou break the bottle in the sight of the men that go with thee,

11 And shalt say unto them, Thus saith the Lord of hosts; Even so will I break this people and this city, as one breaketh a potter’s vessel, that cannot be made whole again: and they shall bury them in Tophet, till there be no place to bury.

12 Thus will I do unto this place, saith the Lord, and to the inhabitants thereof, and even make this city as Tophet:

13 And the houses of Jerusalem, and the houses of the kings of Judah, shall be defiled as the place of Tophet, because of all the houses upon whose roofs they have burned incense unto all the host of heaven, and have poured out drink offerings unto other gods.

14 Then came Jeremiah from Tophet, whither the Lord had sent him to prophesy; and he stood in the court of the Lord’s house; and said to all the people,

15 Thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will bring upon this city and upon all her towns all the evil that I have pronounced against it, because they have hardened their necks, that they might not hear my words.

  1. 1. THUS SATH THE LORD, GO AND GET A POTTERS EARTHEN BOTTLE, AND TAKE OF THE ANCIENTS OF THE PEOPLE, AND OF THE ANCIIENTS OF THE PRIESTS;

  2. From the wheel, to the oven

11 And shalt say unto them, Thus saith the Lord of hosts; Even so will I break this people and this city, as one breaketh a potter’s vessel, that cannot be made whole again: and they shall bury them in Tophet, till there be no place to bury.

It is easy to say that while the potter has clay in his wheel, he can molded, shape it, and if he is not happy with how is coming out, he can destroy it, and begin again. Once that vessel has been fired in the oven there is no chance of changing it, not even if you break it can you powdered the vessel and try to wet it and molded as clay for it will not adhere to it self.
We read yesterday in Jeremiah 18:4 And the vessel that he made of clay was marred in the hands of the potter: so he made it again another vessel, as seemed good to the potter to make it.
I think it was God’s last chance to His people for repentance. Is like saying ok things has not been right so let me form it again and see if you can turn to the good. The sad part is that some of us don’t even take that other chance, thinking there will be others. Life is but a short breath here today and gone tomorrow. I think that God is saying I am done with you stiff neck people the vessel has been fired and now it has been shattered to pieces and can never be made whole again. May God open our hearts to repentance, may our harden hearts soften to His voice, and may we take heed to His word. Then and only then we are going to be able to impact our community with great force. In Jesus Name AMEN

  3. 15 Thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will bring upon this city and upon all her towns all the evil that I have pronounced against it, because they have hardened their necks, that they might not hear my words

    HEAR THE WORD

All the problems of this chapter is defined in this last verse. The reason they will be broken and not put back together again. Evil brought upon them and their counsel made void.
The problem started with, they have hardened their neck. This is even called stiff necks in some places because of their rebellion. This means hard in the as they have hardened their necks.
Refused to hear the words of the Lord.

If we refuse to hear and obey the Word, how do we think we are going to escape the damnation of hell.

HEAR THE WORD OF THE LORD!!!!!!!!!!!!

  4. 15
Thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God
of Israel; Behold, I will bring upon this city
and upon all her towns all the evil that I
have pronounced against it, because they
have hardened their necks, that they
    might not hear my words.

I pray that the Lord allow to hear and understand the word that will be brought forth today.

  5. This chapter illustrates warning. They were given notice; “Thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will bring upon this city and upon all her towns all the evil that I have pronounced against it, because they have hardened their necks, that they might not hear my words”. There are many warnings given today, which it is unwise to continually ignore. What a mighty God we serve! May the good Lord Bless you all in Jesus name, Amen

  6. “This is what the Lord of Heaven’s Armies, the God of Israel, says: ‘I will bring disaster upon this city and its surrounding towns as I promised, because you have stubbornly refused to listen to me.’” (Jeremiah 19:15 NLT)

For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the Lord, he hath also rejected thee from being king. (1 Samuel 15:23 KJV)
It has been said many times in the past, that “Grace is not a license to sin.” And that is so true. We need to be a people of repentance, ready to hear and obey, and live wholeheartedly unto The Lord.

  7. RESISTANCE, STUBBORNNESS AND REBELLION – ITS NOT WORTH IT

15 Thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will bring upon this city and upon all her towns all the evil that I have pronounced against it, because they have hardened their necks, that they might not hear my words.

Listening, hearing and obey are all choices that we make based on our level of respect, desire and dreams. The LORD is long suffering and patient. The LORD is faithful and true. However as we learn here; The LORD is JUST. There is order and principal to and in HIS Kingdom. All too often a deaf ear toward the LORD causes a painful end to his outstretched arm in a season of GRACE.

We witness here the LORD at the end of the line with this stiff necked, rebellious people.

It is very painful to have the Master (JESUS) break his masterpiece (person).

I would rather break myself than have the pain of verses 10 and 11 executed on me.

James 4:10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.

    HUMILITY = Lift UP

  8. 15 Thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will bring upon this city and upon all her towns all the evil that I have pronounced against it, because they have hardened their necks, that they might not hear my words.

Wow. When this generation hardens their neck , the following generation dies. THis is why we need the generation before us to dream big, because that causes us ,the following generation, to dream bigger. As I was reading this ,my thoughts went to Joseph “The Dreamer” who had a dream. And in that he saw the stars, sun , and moon bowing to him. Now to us that makes no sence, yet to the Egyptians it does. Because, in their culture they were the center of the universe, and everything revolved around them. As the stroy goes, years pass with no revelation of the dream, until the generation before him was on the verg of death. Then the land had a famine, and that reagion had to go to Egypt. Then his brothers came and bowed themselves unto him, because he was second in command. Long story short, it took almost a full generation for the dream to take place. Many times it takes a full generation for any dream to be fulfilled. So dont eat this generation and tell them that they will not make it. Get behind them and guide them. WE need mentors and elders to teach us and guide us. Let this church spearhead a new generation that is more passionate, and has a burning desire to want to serve God.

  9. 7 And I will make void the counsel of Judah and Jerusalem in this place; and I will cause them to fall by the sword before their enemies, and by the hands of them that seek their lives: and their carcases will I give to be meat for the fowls of the heaven, and for the beasts of the earth.

  10. And shalt say unto them, Thus saith the Lord of hosts; Even so will I break this people and this city, as one breaketh a potter’s vessel, that cannot be made whole again: and they shall bury them in Tophet, till there be no place to bury.

  11. 4 Because the people have forsaken me and have profaned this place by making offerings in it to other gods whom neither they nor their fathers nor the kings of Judah have known; and because they have filled this place with the blood of innocents ESV

Gotta be careful what offerings and other gods you are serving. When we go against the man of God and not listen to what God is telling us we are shedding innocent blood cause you never know who is watching you and will do what you do. I pray I am not a stumbling block to anyone cause I do not want their blood on my hands. When we don’t forgive I feel we will have that persons blood on our hands but when we forgive them and ask God to wipe their slat clean its off our hands. As it has been said before the only bible some people read is “US”. So what is people reading watching you? I want them to see a God that loves them and a church that loves them. It’s time to quit listening to negative people and get on the band wagon with the positive people and start being a witness to our city.

  12. Then came Jeremiah from Tophet, whither

    14

the Lord had sent him to prophesy; and he stood in the court of the Lord’s house; and said to all the people,

    Thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel;

    15

Behold, I will bring upon this city and upon all her towns all the evil that I have pronounced against it, because they have hardened their necks, that they might not hear my words.

in this chapter we should a judgment of God being declared on a people. the reason why they are being judged because they have not hearkend to the Word of God. it is important that are ears and heart be always open to the voice of God. and that we be not stiff neck and rebellious to what God commands.

  13. What is really at stake here?

5 They have built also the high places of Baal, to burn their sons with fire for burnt offerings unto Baal, which I commanded not, nor spake it, neither came it into my mind:

When we fallow anything that is contrary to The Lord we are sacrificing our family. If we choose to be rebellious and do our own thing then our children will also. My father used to tell me not to drink or smoke but when I had the decision to make for myself I did exactly as he did. The reason was his action sacrificed my future.

Heed the word of The Lord and save your children from being sacrificed unto this world. Our actions speak louder than our words. Our testimony will carry on whether good or bad.

Im a first generation apostolic but I say today that my children will be the stronger second generation that built on to the altar that their dad built, instead of them being on the altar for a sacrifice.

Our Family and Our Future is at stake

  14. God I thank you for the opportunity to find you in the wilderness. The wise men and women you have put over me to hear their voices and guidance. Lord you have blessed me more than I deserve and I will spends life and all eternity showing my love and awe in you!

  15. Stop worshipping Baal.

Baal is simply translated as master. In Hebrew texts Baal and Yahweh were sometimes used interchangeably but it started to be a term that was mentioned with shame by the Jews. Haden, the god of rain, was often called Baal. It could be that this was the false God the prophets of Baal worshipped in the time of Elijah. Simply put, Baal is master and today we have him running rampant in our generation.

Yes I am going there. Be careful little eyes what you watch. Hollywood is a lie. We see these distorted images of what love is and the desensitization of violence. We see someone blow up on tv and think it’s all fake. Well, the first time I saw the effect of a bomb in person my first thought was this looks fake. Then I realized that movies did a good job replicating that madness.

New York daily news stated back in September of 2012 that, “the average American over the age of 2 spends more than 34 hours a week watching live television, says a new Nielsen report — plus another three to six hours watching taped programs

    Read more: http://www.nydailynews.com/entertainment/tv-movies/americans-spend-34-hours-week-watching-tv-nielsen-numbers-article-1.1162285#ixzz2fgU7UmKs

So who does America really serve. We can spend two hours in front of a tv but we can’t spend 30 minutes with Jesus. We can’t blog. We can’t do a devotion. America, the spiritual babylon. God have mercy.

What does all this mean brother turner, let me break it down for you.

    Jeremiah 19:5
They have built also the high places of Baal , to burn their sons with fire for burnt offerings unto Baal , which I commanded not, nor spake it, neither came it into my mind :
    NET
They have built places here for worship of the god Baal so that they could sacrifice their children as burnt offerings to him in the fire. Such sacrifices are something I never commanded them to make! They are something I never told them to do! Indeed, such a thing never even entered my mind!

It is happening today. These kids are being burned with fire watching this junk. Images and worldly beliefs are being seared into the mind of young kids everyday. The Hollywood sign is set up on a hill. It is in a high place for everyone to see.
In 2004 Americans spent 709 billion dollars on entertainment. It’s time to tear down the high places.

  16. 2 And go forth unto the valley of the son of Hinnom, which is by the entry of the east gate, and proclaim there the words that I shall tell thee,

  17. A Hard Word

14 Then came Jeremiah from Tophet, whither the Lord had sent him to prophesy; and he stood in the court of the Lord’s house; and said to all the people, 15 Thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will bring upon this city and upon all her towns all the evil that I have pronounced against it, because they have hardened their necks, that they might not hear my words.

Back when the Bible was recorded people were only considered to be a prophet if all the things they said came true. Jeremiah knew that the words he was about to speak would come true because God told him they were true. This was a tremendously hard word, especially since he had given the people some warning before just before this.

Jeremiah know that all of these people are about to die because of their sins to God. He warned them to stop, but they would not stop. (Sounds a little like Pastor’s job and some of the responses he receives {if it was different he would not have to KEEP going over the same things}.)

A word like this is a hard thing to read and go through, BUT THEY WERE WARNED! We must listen to the words of those around us and heed their warnings. We have to make sure that we are in the will of God for our lives. Serving false gods in NOT God’s will in our lives. What is God’s will?

Even them will I bring to my holy mountain, and make them joyful in my house of prayer: their burnt offerings and their sacrifices shall be accepted upon mine altar; for mine house shall be called an house of prayer for all people Isaiah 56:7

For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost Luke 19:10

Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Matthew 28:19

Thou shalt have no other gods before me Exodus 20:3

Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. Matthew 22:37-39

Keep the word in your heart and the words the prophet has to speak to you will not seem so harsh. Stay focused on God!

  18. Jeremiah was obedient to the Lords command for him to go tell the people, even though he already knew by their response so far that they were not going to heed his pleading for them to repent. His relationship with God was stronger than his ties with the people.

We must examine ourselves, sure up our foundation with the Lord to be sure that we are not living to please the people around us, but living to please the Lord. In spite of what others must say, we must too find ourselves being obedient to the Lord and His commands and not to those who will not give an account for our souls.

  19. Verse 11 CEV “Then tell them that I have also said: I am the Lord All-Powerful, and I warn you that I will shatter Judah and Jerusalem just like this jar that is broken beyond repair. You will bury your dead here in Topheth, but so many of you will die that there won’t be enough room.” So many believe that they are “broken beyond repair”; but, the Lord is still wanting to remold you, if you will allow him to. Heed the warning and do not walk away from the Potter.

  20. Stiff-necks Break

Numerous times the Lord called His people in the desert ‘stiff-necked’ and stuborn. When a clay pot is dry and hardened, you cannot remold it. Spiritually if we uproot ourselves from our relationship and obedience to the Potter. We become stiff, and just fragile enough to break when it comes time for judgment. Those who have strayed away from the vine/church body are no longer functioning the way He designed them to. Flowers may be beautiful but once cut from its limb or uprooted, if not re-rooted they will all die…wither, crumble and break down.

Their is a good deal of water involved in pottery, the clay must remain wet enough to mold. God molds us spirtually, if we don’t have ‘oil in our lamps’ of the Holy Ghost in us then we can be running on empty spiritually. If engines and machines aren’t properly ‘oiled’ they can break down, if there’s not enough oil in our spiritual lamps like the virgins waiting for the bridegroom we too might miss eternity with Him. Stiff-necks break just like the pot Jeremiah was told to break to illistrate the coming judgment upon His people, because they were simply too stuborn to take caution and -oil up- each times they’ve been warned.

  21. It’s time for Revival, Let the holy spirit have it’s way. God ‘s will be done no matter your situation he can turn it around to his glory. Allow him to polish you just like he wants and live a holy life for ever. It’s his will and not thine will. Disobedience only leads to distruction in the eyes of God you’re carnal and we are to be set apart . He knows our intention and what better way than to please him NOW.

  22. Remember The Children

5 They have built also the high places of Baal, to burn their sons with fire for burnt offerings unto Baal, which I commanded not, nor spake it, neither came it into my mind

Our life is not our own. What we do not only affects us but those around us. So often we get in a mindset of “how does this affect me? my walk with God? my life?” and forget about the others on the periphery that catch the fallout of our decisions.

    Ephesians 2:10
For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

There are souls around us counting on us to walk in the will of God. Spiritual children are awaiting our obedience to Christ, and while we may make some poor decisions that hurt us but don’t destroy us, it may mean death for the spiritual children we are to reach and nurture. We cannot afford to live recklessly, only looking at what we can get away with.

Any natural father in his right mind would get upset if the mother of his children lived selfishly and carelessly so as to neglect and endanger their children (whether born or yet in the womb), so why wouldn’t God be likewise upset? We must remember the children as worship to Jesus, and not sacrifice them to Baal in idolatry.

  23. 15 Thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will bring upon this city and upon all her towns all the evil that I have pronounced against it, because they have hardened their necks, that they might not hear my words.

My prayer is that I open my heart and mind to receive the Word with meekness and apply it to my life that it may be well with me and not fall into the wrath of a consuming fire the Living True God, Jesus.
