Jeremiah 43

1 And it came to pass, that when Jeremiah had made an end of speaking unto all the people all the words of the Lordtheir God, for which the Lord their God had sent him to them, even all these words,

Then spake Azariah the son of Hoshaiah, and Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the proud men, saying unto Jeremiah, Thou speakest falsely: the Lord our God hath not sent thee to say, Go not into Egypt to sojourn there:

But Baruch the son of Neriah setteth thee on against us, for to deliver us into the hand of the Chaldeans, that they might put us to death, and carry us away captives into Babylon.

So Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces, and all the people, obeyed not the voice of the Lord, to dwell in the land of Judah.

But Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces, took all the remnant of Judah, that were returned from all nations, whither they had been driven, to dwell in the land of Judah;

Even men, and women, and children, and the king’s daughters, and every person that Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard had left with Gedaliah the son of Ahikam the son of Shaphan, and Jeremiah the prophet, and Baruch the son of Neriah.

So they came into the land of Egypt: for they obeyed not the voice of the Lord: thus came they even to Tahpanhes.

Then came the word of the Lord unto Jeremiah in Tahpanhes, saying,

Take great stones in thine hand, and hide them in the clay in the brickkiln, which is at the entry of Pharaoh’s house in Tahpanhes, in the sight of the men of Judah;

10 And say unto them, Thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will send and take Nebuchadrezzar the king of Babylon, my servant, and will set his throne upon these stones that I have hid; and he shall spread his royal pavilion over them.

11 And when he cometh, he shall smite the land of Egypt, and deliver such as are for death to death; and such as are for captivity to captivity; and such as are for the sword to the sword.

12 And I will kindle a fire in the houses of the gods of Egypt; and he shall burn them, and carry them away captives: and he shall array himself with the land of Egypt, as a shepherd putteth on his garment; and he shall go forth from thence in peace.

13 He shall break also the images of Bethshemesh, that is in the land of Egypt; and the houses of the gods of the Egyptians shall he burn with fire.

For I rejoice greatly, when the breathren came and testified of the truth that is in thee, even as those walkest in the truth.

  2. 4 So Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces, and all the people, obeyed not the voice of the Lord, to dwell in the land of Judah.

    STAY HOME

The important part of this scripture to me is to stay put. When we are in the land of Judah (PRAISE), how can it get any better. No matter what happens we need to stay in the land of Praise.
It is not time to bail out and leave, because we are going into transition. Many people cannot take change, we need to accept the change God has gave us. From here we need to support Pastor Watts and the Contractors to build us a new facility where we will have more room to worship God, for a short period of time.
We are going to fill up the new facility until we are crowded again and have to go to phase 2. I am excited about all this.
We need to dig in and stay home. Let us take whatever God brings our way as the will of God. Move on and see miracles in the hour we live today. I believe God can heal anything and do anything if we will just trust him. We need to get all things out of our heart and move up the ladder of worship and let God move in our lives.
    COME ON DOWN HOLY GHOST!!!
HOLY GHOST REVIVAL!!!!!!!!!!!! COMES WHEN WE STAY HOME AND ENDURE.

  3. iLove to eaat the Word

10 And say unto them, Thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will send and take Nebuchadrezzar the king of Babylon, my servant, and will set his throne upon these stones that I have hid; and he shall spread his royal pavilion over them.

Disobedience not only hurts you, but also your family and everyone around you. Egypt now will be destroyed because of some wayfaring, hard headed Jews.

When Jonah was disobedient, he put all the other men on the ship with him in danger.

As leaders at The Pentecostals, we must be obedient no matter what the cost or we could affect many others around us. On the flip side, if we’re obedient, it too will spread to those around us.

  4. 7 So they came into the land of Egypt: for they obeyed not the voice of the Lord: thus came they even to Tahpanhes.

Disobeying the voice of the Lord leads to Egypt. In this scripture, it was physically; now it is spiritually. Egypt is looked upon as a place of sin and bondage – a place to be delivered from, not a place to willingly go. When we obey God’s voice and stay out of Egypt, we don’t have to lift our voice to plead for Him to deliver us out of there.

  5. In this chapter we continue to see how the people still didn’t want to believe what God was relaying to Jeremiah. Why…..because it wasn’t what they wanted to hear. In Proverbs 16:2 MSG it says “Humans are satisfied with whatever looks good; God probes for what is good.” But, if we do what Proverbs 16:3 says “Put God in charge of your work, then what you’ve planned will take place” then God can freely move in our lives. If the people had done this, God would have taken care of their greatest fear that the Babylonians would either end up killing them or taking them off to exile in Babylon. Proverbs 16:7 says “When God approves of your life, even your enemies will end up shaking your hand.”

  6. Wow.. Their disobedience caused them to die and be taken captive, they can’t make the excuse that they had no warning. The man of God himself said don’t go there… Makes me think of us and if we’re being disobedient to our man of God and if so where will that lead us? Back into Egypt?

Jesus have mercy, you are so just God, you are a mighty God, you are holy

  7. PRIDE AND ARROGANCE WILL TAKE YOU AWAY FROM PRAISE

2 Then spake Azariah the son of Hoshaiah, and Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the proud men, saying unto Jeremiah, Thou speakest falsely: the Lord our God hath not sent thee to say, Go not into Egypt to sojourn there:

Have you ever wondered why some people that once were committed, devoted, demonstrative individuals expressing sincere, passionate PRAISE unto the LORD our GOD, JESUS, all of the sudden just lost it? They no longer express their unashamed gratitude for all that the LORD has done in their life and all the wonderful acts of GOD that HE has allowed them to see. We find the reason here in Jeremiah 43.

The WORD of the LORD came to them in Judah (PRAISE), however, “all the PROUD men” doubted, and falsely accused the Prophet of GOD. Pride caused them to become “LEGENDS in their OWN Mind” and rejected the WORD of the LORD and failed to TRUST in the LORD. Because they wanted to go to Egypt, in their arrogance that fact made the man of GOD wrong.

You cant see whats right when you look at it with a wrong spirit.

  8. Trust

Azariah son of Hoshaiah and Johanan son of Kareah and all the other proud men said to Jeremiah, “You lie! The Lord our God hasn’t forbidden us to go to Egypt! So Johanan and the other guerrilla leaders and all the people refused to obey the Lord ’s command to stay in Judah. (Jeremiah 43:2, 4 NLT)

The people were full of pride, unbelief and disobedience. The Lord said not to fear. Now they have allowed fear to paralyze them.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take. Don’t be impressed with your own wisdom. Instead, fear the Lord and turn away from evil. Then you will have healing for your body and strength for your bones. (Proverbs 3:5-8 NLT)

  9. Pride always puts I first…

2 Then spake Azariah the son of Hoshaiah, and Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the proud men, saying unto Jeremiah, Thou speakest falsely: the Lord our God hath not sent thee to say, Go not into Egypt to sojourn there:

Pride always make a person put their will first over God’s will. They don’t take heed to the warnings of the men of God, but do what they please, for pride always thinks: first me, second me, and always me. It is a sad day when your pride over rides your love for the Lord. Lord let us humble ourselves in your Presence, Obey your will, and listen to the man of God when he speaks on Your behave. In Jesus Name AMEN.

2 Chronicles 7:14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

  10. Pride… Aka the destroyer

As leaders Pride not only destroys you but it also destroys those around you and the Word God has spoken. Jeremiah delivered the Word of God and men of pride came and destroyed that word from the hearts of the people.

As leaders our Pastor comes to deliver the Word of God to this city and it is our job to lift up his hands and aide the Word with our praise and encouraging words. We cannot allow pride to settle in our hearts and destroy the Word God has for the people of this city.

I chose to be a fire extinguisher and put out the fires that pride desires to start. How? Through prayer that every spirit of division will be bound and sent back to the pits of hell and loose the spirit of unity among us. Unity in purpose and vision.

We will… We are… And we will continue to Impact Our Future Together!

  11. 10 And say unto them, Thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will send and take Nebuchadrezzar the king of Babylon, my servant, and will set his throne upon these stones that I have hid; and he shall spread his royal pavilion over them.
11 And when he cometh, he shall smite the land of Egypt, and deliver such as are for death to death; and such as are for captivity to captivity; and such as are for the sword to the sword.

Disobedence brings death. Maybe not to yourself, but to those around you, and eventually to you too.

  12. We can’t just ignore what God says and disobey because maybe we don’t like what was said or asked of us. It’s a very childlike behavior to not give any attention to what was just put before you. Pay attention, listen, and obey what God says.

Thank you Jesus for your mercy that keeps us, for never leaving us, even when we turn from you.

  13. 1 And it came to pass, that when Jeremiah had made an end of speaking unto all the people all the words of the Lordtheir God, for which the Lord their God had sent him to them, even all these words,

2 Then spake Azariah the son of Hoshaiah, and Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the proud men, saying unto Jeremiah, Thou speakest falsely: the Lord our God hath not sent thee to say, Go not into Egypt to sojourn there:

How sad for those who had begged Jeremiah in the last chapter to intercede for them with His God that now in todays chapter a leader rises up and totally discounts what instruction the Lord gave to Jeremiah for the people. We as children of the most high God must be sensitive to the spirit of God and connected in a daily relationship so that our spirit will bare witness with the spirit of the leader in charge. When there is unity, there is great victory, but when someone blatantly disobeys the commandments of the Lord, the entire congregation will suffer. This behooves us to continually lift up the hands of our leader in prayer and support so that He hears and obeys the Lord to lead us in the proper direction.

  14. Obedience

All God wanted was simple obedience. Yet how can he know if it isn’t tested? When we stand with hands lifted high committing to God on Sunday evening service our faith cannot be dettered. We proclaim with fervency out allegiance to our God, and his will.

As the weeks come our commitment is tested to see if we have spoken in truth or in the moment.

Yet Paul tells us when these tests come to count it all joy. This is a time of promotion when handled right.

God told Abraham as he held knife above his only son “Now I know that you love me.”

He didn’t want Abraham to kill his son but by his actions declare he was willing to do for the one true God what the wicked did for theirs.

To obey is better than sacrifice and to hearken than the fat of rams.

  15. Vs.5-7, “But Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces, took all the remnant of Judah, that were returned from all nations, whither they had been driven to dwell in the land of Judah;
Even men, and women, and children, and the king’s daughters, and every person that Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard had left with Gedaliah the son of Ahikam the son of Shaphan, and Jeremiah the son of Neriah.
So they came into the land of Egypt: for they obeyed not the voice of the LORD: thus come they even to Tahpanhes.”

The people disobeyed the voice of the Lord and the man of God. They went to Egypt.

When we disobey God and the man of God, it will bring us from Praise (Judah) and lead you to sin. (Egypt).

  16. 10 And say unto them, Thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will send and take Nebuchadrezzar the king of Babylon, my servant, and will set his throne upon these stones that I have hid; and he shall spread his royal pavilion over them.

They disobey God and the man of God because they’re afraid of the Chaldeans only to find that what they fear will soon be upon them! Out of the frying pan & into the fire. What I see is a great deceptive pride to trust their judgement over God’s. These people act like they’ve never heard of the goodness of God before. Help us Lord to not trust in the arm of the flesh.

  17. SANTO!!! SANTO!!! SANTO!!!
13 He shall break also the images of Bethshemesh, that is in the land of Egypt; and the houses of the gods of the Egyptians shall he burn with fire.
MY GOD IS A JEALOUS GOD!!! HALELUJAH !!! EVERYTHING WORKS FOR THE GOOD OF THOSE THAT LOVE GOD!!! I love you JESUS!!!

  18. This chapter illustrates disobedience. They disobeyed what God (Jesus) had told Jeremiah. One would be unwise to disobey what God, or the man of God says. What a mighty God we serve! May the good Lord Bless you all in Jesus name, Amen

  19. 10 And say unto them, Thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will send and take Nebuchadrezzar the king of Babylon, my servant, and will set his throne upon these stones that I have hid; and he shall spread his royal pavilion over them.

  20. Disobedience doesn’t just affect you. It affects everyone around you and eventually will destroy you. Obedience will avenge your disobedience!
    Thank you Jesus!

  21. Proverbs 16:2 it says “Humans are satisfied with whatever looks good; God probes for what is good.” But, if we do what Proverbs 16:3 says “Put God in charge of your work, then what you’ve planned will take place -even though what the lord wants us to do seems difficult and feels like to much its all worth it not only will disobedience affect you but as well as everyone in your household… because people would rather live in sin and worldliness then in the land of praise. like everything around them seems easier and ok… HALLELUYAH!!!!!!!!!! LORD THANK YOU JESUS FOR ALL THAT YOU DONE FOR ME AND THE PEOPLE YOUVE SURROUNDED ME WITH NOW LORD ILY..AND ASK THAT YOU KEEP GUIDING ME IN YOUR STEPS LORD..AND I PRAY THAT YOU ALWAYS GUIDE ME IN YOUR PATH LORD..NEVER AGAIN WILL I THINK ABOUT LEAVING YOUR SIDE CAUSE YOUR,MIGHTY,MY HEALER,MY REFUGE,MY EVERYTHING

  22. 12 And I will kindle a fire in the houses of the gods of Egypt; and he shall burn them, and carry them away captives: and he shall array himself with the land of Egypt, as a shepherd putteth on his garment; and he shall go forth from thence in peace.

13 He shall break also the images of Bethshemesh, that is in the land of Egypt; and the houses of the gods of the Egyptians shall he burn with fire.

    Burn Idols Burn!!!!
The man of God had no tolerance for idols and false gods. Egypt and all its idols will burn in Gods judgement. Every idol in our lives should be burned whatever it is that keeps us from following the one true God should be forsaken!!!

  23. Disobedience = Failure
    Obedience= Victory

Disobedience is pride at its ugliest form. You think you have it all figured out and no one, even God Almighty, can tell you any different. At this point you are on the edge of failure. When it goes down you are surly going with it. The titanic was in this condition. No one would listen to the voice of experience and they tempted God with arrogance. The ship is irrecoverable, never to be seen again. Where are you at oh prideful one who knows everything. How much further down can you go before you are as the titanic? Irrecoverable?

  24. God looks at the hEart

In the secret places of there harts they disobeyed. They listened and followed the instructions of someone who LOOKED like they might hear from God. So Godsaid that they were to put the stones in the secret place of the mud so that they would pass it everyday, just like they passed God everyday. They continued to secretly not listen to God. But God told them that the secret place would be made known and that the king would set up his habitation in that secret place. It s just like tat with God. When God comes in, some things die, some things (thoughts) are taken captive, and some things (our will) we have to just force to obey.

    Mark 4:22 (KJV)
For there is nothing hid, which shall not be manifested; neither was any thing kept secret, but that it should come abroad.

    Luke 8:17 (KJV)
For nothing is secret, that shall not be made manifest; neither [any thing] hid, that shall not be known and come abroad.

    John 7:4 (KJV)
For [there is] no man [that] doeth any thing in secret, and he himself seeketh to be known openly. If thou do these things, shew thyself to the world.

Lord help us to follow you with our whole hearts so tat we will not have to go to the world and suffer an extreme wake up call. Lord bring to light all the things in our hearts that we are hiding in those secret places so that we can change what we are doing to be in Your will. In Jesus name, Amen.

Who can understand his errors? cleanse thou me from secret faults. (Psalms 19:12 KJV)

  25. 2 Then spake Azariah the son of Hoshaiah, and Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the proud men, saying unto Jeremiah, Thou speakest falsely: the Lord our God hath not sent thee to say, Go not into Egypt to sojourn there:

Pride goes before the fall. Pride will say, well who are you to speak that? Pride goes hand in hand with rebellion and disobedience because it refuses to hearken.

  26. Trust

2 Then spake Azariah the son of Hoshaiah, and Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the proud men, saying unto Jeremiah, Thou speakest falsely: the Lord our God hath not sent thee to say, Go not into Egypt to sojourn there:

3 But Baruch the son of Neriah setteth thee on against us, for to deliver us into the hand of the Chaldeans, that they might put us to death, and carry us away captives into Babylon.

Appearances can be deceiving. Situations can get us turned around and confused about which way is up. Like we heard preached tonight, it is critical to have the mind of Christ, otherwise the carnal mind will send us hurtling towards disaster.

The man of God spoke the word of life but their trust was not in him and they were not in tune with God to see that what was spoken was true. If we want the preached word to be effective, we do best to prepare for the Word to abide in us in advance. Daily Bible reading, prayer, meditation on the Word, private praise and worship, etc all foster a pattern in our lives that makes room for truth.

Both the words “trust” and “truth” are rooted in the meaning “faithful.” We know Jesus is the Word, He is truth, and so our trust is rooted in His faithfulness. Trust can be scared by unfaithfulness, but He provides healing, restoration, and the stability we need throughout. The more we make room for Truth, the more we will come to receive His faithfulness and trust Him.

    Proverbs 3:5-8
5 Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. 6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. 7 Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the Lord, and depart from evil. 8 It shall be health to thy navel, and marrow to thy bones.

    2 Corinthians 5:7
(For we walk by faith, not by sight:)

  27. 7 So they came into the land of Egypt: for they obeyed not the voice of the Lord: thus came they even to Tahpanhes.

Too many people are ignoring what God is saying. Trouble starts when we dismiss the directions God wants to give us. We should always be attentive to what God is saying.

  28. 13 He shall break also the images of Bethshemesh, that is in the land of Egypt; and the houses of the gods of the Egyptians shall he burn with fire.

    Border Line Praise

Bethshemesh was a town built between Judah, and the Philistines. A hymn that was between praise and worldly…

We must keep our praises from being anywhere close to questionable, lest we too should have our praise go up in smoke….

  29. Crippled By Sin

Rejecting God’s directive, the remnant leaves Judah and goes to northeastern Egypt. It appears that they force Jeremiah and Baruch to flee with them. In this land of opportunity and plenty, the Hebrews begin to blend into Egyptian culture and join the Egyptians in pagan worship (Jer 44:7-8). Their penchant for worshiping false gods only grows in the Egyptian environment, and God’s judgment, instead of blessings, is their destiny ..again. The blatant idolatry of the Egyptians and the Israelites leads also to Egyptians downfall, which Jeremiah predicts in these verses. Nebuchadnezzar invades Egypt in 568 B.C., killing the Hebrew refugees and allowing only a few to join the captives in Babylon. The once grand nation never regains its strength or prominence. All this grief because of sin.
