Jeremiah 47

1The word of the Lord that came to Jeremiah the prophet against the Philistines, before that Pharaoh smote Gaza.

Thus saith the Lord; Behold, waters rise up out of the north, and shall be an overflowing flood, and shall overflow the land, and all that is therein; the city, and them that dwell therein: then the men shall cry, and all the inhabitants of the land shall howl.

At the noise of the stamping of the hoofs of his strong horses, at the rushing of his chariots, and at the rumbling of his wheels, the fathers shall not look back to their children for feebleness of hands;

Because of the day that cometh to spoil all the Philistines, and to cut off from Tyrus and Zidon every helper that remaineth: for the Lord will spoil the Philistines, the remnant of the country of Caphtor.

Baldness is come upon Gaza; Ashkelon is cut off with the remnant of their valley: how long wilt thou cut thyself?

O thou sword of the Lord, how long will it be ere thou be quiet? put up thyself into thy scabbard, rest, and be still.

How can it be quiet, seeing the Lord hath given it a charge against Ashkelon, and against the sea shore? there hath he appointed it.

  1. Foundation

    It’s a natural instict for fathers and mothers to protect their children. Even animals will safegaurd their young. Yet Jeremiah says that Babylon’s invasion from the north will so terrify the Philistines that the strong arms of fathers will hang limp”, defenseless to help their needy children. What a devestating picture of total abandonment. “For the day has come to destroy all the Philistines and to cut off all survivors who could help Tyre and Sidon. In Noah’s time the flood was to take out the enitre earths population, God’s judgment is coming to destroy ‘all’ the Philistines. The waters are going to rise just like in Noah’s time, and they will overflow the land and everything in it, the towns and those who live in them. Judgment will be so sudden, parents attempts to protect their children will be like limp spaghetti noodles. The foundation they have built their lives upon is about to flood, and God says none will survive. We must build our lives upon ‘The Rock’ Jesus, so whenever life tries to overflow on us we can stand secure and protected under the Blood of the Lamb. Stand on the only sure foundation, the chief cornerstone (Eph 2:20).

    Luke 6:47 “Whosoever cometh to me, and heareth my sayings, and doeth them, I will shew you to whom he is like: 48He is like a man which built an house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock. 49But he that heareth, and doeth not, is like a man that without a foundation built an house upon the earth; against which the stream did beat vehemently, and immediately it fell; and the ruin of that house was great.”

  2. Wo…to the distant~
    I prayThat there wont be no distant between me and God.
    He is so important to me i WILL ALWAYS ohnor and obey his Word and the message i hear every service I go to in God’s House. With praise and dance to His glorious Name and His name is Jesus. I love the Church thank u Jesus.im not boasting i dont mean to i just love to go see Jesus in His House and His people. What a priveledge to have on this earth and eventually in heaven thank u Lord. Romans 10:13
    For whosoever call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

  3. 4 Because of the day that cometh to spoil all the Philistines, and to cut off from Tyrus and Zidon every helper that remaineth: for the Lord will spoil the Philistines, the remnant of the country of Caphtor.

    Who are you helping? When God was ready to destroy the Philistines, he also cut off their helpers. Don’t realize too late that you are helping the wrong ones!

  4. Verse 7 MSG ““But how can it quit when I, God, command the action? I’ve ordered it to cut down Ashkelon and the seacoast.” God is in control of ALL things. Proverbs 20:27 MSG says “God is in charge of human life, watching and examining us inside and out. Proverbs 20:24 MSG also says “The very steps we take come from God; otherwise how would we know where we’re going?” When God commands an action, sets a mission or gives an assignment; you better be in line with his will or you will be flooded out. Lord be in the midst of everything that I do, I pray.

  5. 4 Because of the day that cometh to spoil all the Philistines, and to cut off from Tyrus and Zidon every helper that remaineth: for the Lord will spoil the Philistines, the remnant of the country of Caphtor.

    Oh rejoice not oh my enemies. When I fall I shall arise.
    As bishop has put it so well. When we fall be like a bouncy ball and go higher the next time. This creates momentum ,which is energy. Therefore when we bounce we gain energy. When we arise,we gain victory over whatever it is that held us back. Be encouraged, be encouraging. And do the will of God.

  6. Too weak for their future

    3 At the noise of the stamping of the hoofs of his strong horses, at the rushing of his chariots, and at the rumbling of his wheels, the fathers shall not look back to their children for feebleness of hands;

    Fear and weakness–they are dispelled by the strength and boldness of God. When we turn to God he gives us both. We don’t get these things to become redicios, but rather so that we can reach for our children and our future. The children we reach for are not just physical children. We reach for our new spiritual children to help raise them up so that Jesus may be glorified through our actions.

    According to the eternal purpose which he purposed in Christ Jesus our Lord: In whom we have boldness and access with confidence by the faith of him. Wherefore I desire that ye faint not at my tribulations for you, which is your glory. (Ephesians 3:11-13 KJV)

    Be bold and keep reaching for te new Christians tgat they may continue to be encouraged in Christ.

  7. THE FLOOD OF THE LORD

    2 Thus saith the Lord; Behold, waters rise up out of the north, and shall be an overflowing flood, and shall overflow the land, and all that is therein; the city, and them that dwell therein: then the men shall cry, and all the inhabitants of the land shall howl.

    I am confident that the word flood had great significance in that day. Having heard of the flood of Noah’s day. In that flood the LORD destroyed the whole earth. In this flood the LORD will again destroy the wickedness of rebellious people.

    THE FLOOD OF THE LORD will overtake and overpower the flood of the enemy.

    Isaiah 59:19 So shall they fear the name of the LORD from the west, and his glory from the rising of the sun. When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the LORD shall lift up a standard against him.

    History teaches us that the FLOOD of the LORD GOD of heaven is much more powerful than the flood of the enemy.

    Choose JESUS! Choose the LORD’s side and ride the wave instead of dodge the wave.

    iPray
    iWork
    iGive
    iReap

  8. The Lord strong & mighty has the power over all the Earth which is His creation. Over the waters and over the beast of this Earth but He loved us so much that He gave us free will and as a Father He correct us; but won’t look back.

  9. In this chapter I feel like God is trying to warn us with who we are hanging out with? What are we doing? Are we hanging with friends that are a postitive influence on our life? If you are hanging with someone that is negative all the time don’t have nothing good to say or do, its time to cut ties and move on. We don’t have tie to baby the so call friends that are always down in the dumps. Time to grow up and get up and be what God wants us to be.

  10. At the noise of the stamping of the hoofs of his strong horses, at the rushing of his chariots, and at the rumbling of his wheels, the fathers shall not look back to their children for feebleness of hands;

    They were so scared that they could not defend their own children.

  11. This chapter illustrates motion. The Lord placed it into motion; “O thou sword of the Lord, how long will it be ere thou be quiet”. One would be wise to heed what sayeth the Lord, before it is placed into motion. What a mighty God we serve! May the good Lord Bless you all in Jesus name, Amen

  12. 2 Thus saith the Lord; Behold, waters rise up out of the north, and shall be an overflowing flood, and shall overflow the land, and all that is therein; the city, and them that dwell therein: then the men shall cry, and all the inhabitants of the land shall howl.

    Isaiah 59:19
    19 So shall they fear the name of the Lord from the west, and his glory from the rising of the sun. When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord shall lift up a standard against him.

    The Lord is always ten steps ahead of the enemy. Though we experience sudden moments, unexplained life changing times, God is never surprised!

    Trust in God!

  13. I will shout and rejoice for the victory! Through God we are strong and victorious!!

    Thank you Jesus for giving me strength!

  14. Will you be strong or will you run away?

    Don’t tuck tail and run when danger comes. That’s the time to be on guard. Be ready for whatever the enemy is trying to bring your way.

  15. 2 Thus saith the Lord; Behold, waters rise up out of the north, and shall be an overflowing flood, and shall overflow the land, and all that is therein; the city, and them that dwell therein: then the men shall cry, and all the inhabitants of the land shall howl.

  16. 4 Because of the day that cometh to spoil all the Philistines, and to cut off from Tyrus and Zidon every helper that remaineth: for the Lord will spoil the Philistines, the remnant of the country of Caphtor.

    Philistines 1 a native or inhabitant of ancient Philistia
    2 often not capitalized
    a : a person who is guided by materialism and is usually disdainful of intellectual or artistic values
    b : one uninformed in a special area of knowledge

    FTW is filled with Philistines. We have people are are materialistic and are anti-Christ as well Christians who are uninformed on the truth of salvation. We are about to take the spoils of FtW. There are many souls to be won, churches to be claimed, and even more land to build on. This is just the beginning.

  17. Jeremiah chapter 47 verse 1:

    The word of the lord that came to jeremiah the prohet against the philistines, before that pharaoh smote Gaza. In jesus Name Amen

  18. 2 Thus saith the Lord; Behold, waters rise up out of the north, and shall be an overflowing flood, and shall overflow the land, and all that is therein; the city, and them that dwell therein: then the men shall cry, and all the inhabitants of the land shall howl.

    What a horrible feeling to know that destruction is coming to your city, and you are so overwhelmed by it, that all the men shall cry and the inhabitants of the land shall howl.

  19. Not Stopped

    “Oh, Sword of God, how long will you keep this up? Return to your scabbard. Haven’t you had enough? Can’t you call it quits? “But how can it quit when I, God, command the action? I’ve ordered it to cut down Ashkelon and the seacoast.” (Jeremiah 47:6, 7 MSG)

    Ephesians 6:17
    And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God

    Matthew 28:18-20
    18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. 19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: 20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

    The gospel is sent to every nation, how can it be stopped when God has sent it forth? And for that matter, how could we stop when we are commanded to GO as bearers of that Sword, messengers of the gospel? A city set on a hill can’t be hid; sharing the gospel is about more than what we do, it’s about who we are. It’s more than obeying the command, it’s living the command to GO. People will ask, Isn’t that enough outreach? Haven’t you had enough? The answer though is, How can we quit when the Lord has commanded it? The gospel won’t be stopped, and it’s our privilege to be able stand up like Isaiah and say, Send me, Lord! I’ll answer Your call!

  20. 3 At the noise of the stamping of the hoofs of his strong horses, at the rushing of his chariots, and at the rumbling of his wheels, the fathers shall not look back to their children for feebleness of hands;
    Judgement is coming…
    The time for Gods judgement had come to this people and there was nothing that was going to stop it. All of their evil ways came up into the nostrils of God as a horrible stench and now even God declared that he could not stop the judgement that was to come. It pays to live for God and walk in righteousness.

  21. 2 Thus saith the Lord; Behold, waters rise up out of the north, and shall be an overflowing flood, and shall overflow the land, and all that is therein; the city, and them that dwell therein: then the men shall cry, and all the inhabitants of the land shall howl.

    The mighty power of our God. When I read this immediately this verse came to mind:
    Isaiah 59:19 So shall they fear the name of the Lord from the west, and his glory from the rising of the sun. When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord shall lift up a standard against him.

    Can you imagine how the devil tries to intimidate and comes at you “like a flood” with throwing everything it has at you? But just like the serpents that got swallowed by the staff of Moses, the the power of God’s flood overpowers and has victory. God’s side is always thr winning side.

  22. 6 O thou sword of the Lord, how long will it be ere thou be quiet? put up thyself into thy scabbard, rest, and be still.
    7 How can it be quiet, seeing the Lord hath given it a charge against Ashkelon, and against the sea shore? there hath he appointed it.

    The Lord commands and all creation obeys. What he sets in motion will finish its actions until the Lord says stop. But as humans we’re created with our own will and we can disobey.Yet God is no respector of persons and he will send judgement on all who choose to disregard him.
