Jeremiah 49

1Concerning the Ammonites, thus saith the Lord; Hath Israel no sons? hath he no heir? why then doth their king inherit Gad, and his people dwell in his cities?

Therefore, behold, the days come, saith the Lord, that I will cause an alarm of war to be heard in Rabbah of the Ammonites; and it shall be a desolate heap, and her daughters shall be burned with fire: then shall Israel be heir unto them that were his heirs, saith the Lord.

Howl, O Heshbon, for Ai is spoiled: cry, ye daughters of Rabbah, gird you with sackcloth; lament, and run to and fro by the hedges; for their king shall go into captivity, and his priests and his princes together.

Wherefore gloriest thou in the valleys, thy flowing valley, O backsliding daughter? that trusted in her treasures, saying, Who shall come unto me?

Behold, I will bring a fear upon thee, saith the Lord God of hosts, from all those that be about thee; and ye shall be driven out every man right forth; and none shall gather up him that wandereth.

And afterward I will bring again the captivity of the children of Ammon, saith the Lord.

Concerning Edom, thus saith the Lord of hosts; Is wisdom no more in Teman? is counsel perished from the prudent? is their wisdom vanished?

Flee ye, turn back, dwell deep, O inhabitants of Dedan; for I will bring the calamity of Esau upon him, the time that I will visit him.

If grapegatherers come to thee, would they not leave some gleaning grapes? if thieves by night, they will destroy till they have enough.

10 But I have made Esau bare, I have uncovered his secret places, and he shall not be able to hide himself: his seed is spoiled, and his brethren, and his neighbours, and he is not.

11 Leave thy fatherless children, I will preserve them alive; and let thy widows trust in me.

12 For thus saith the Lord; Behold, they whose judgment was not to drink of the cup have assuredly drunken; and art thou he that shall altogether go unpunished? thou shalt not go unpunished, but thou shalt surely drink of it.

13 For I have sworn by myself, saith the Lord, that Bozrah shall become a desolation, a reproach, a waste, and a curse; and all the cities thereof shall be perpetual wastes.

14 I have heard a rumour from the Lord, and an ambassador is sent unto the heathen, saying, Gather ye together, and come against her, and rise up to the battle.

15 For, lo, I will make thee small among the heathen, and despised among men.

16 Thy terribleness hath deceived thee, and the pride of thine heart, O thou that dwellest in the clefts of the rock, that holdest the height of the hill: though thou shouldest make thy nest as high as the eagle, I will bring thee down from thence, saith the Lord.

17 Also Edom shall be a desolation: every one that goeth by it shall be astonished, and shall hiss at all the plagues thereof.

18 As in the overthrow of Sodom and Gomorrah and the neighbour cities thereof, saith the Lord, no man shall abide there, neither shall a son of man dwell in it.

19 Behold, he shall come up like a lion from the swelling of Jordan against the habitation of the strong: but I will suddenly make him run away from her: and who is a chosen man, that I may appoint over her? for who is like me? and who will appoint me the time? and who is that shepherd that will stand before me?

20 Therefore hear the counsel of the Lord, that he hath taken against Edom; and his purposes, that he hath purposed against the inhabitants of Teman: Surely the least of the flock shall draw them out: surely he shall make their habitations desolate with them.

21 The earth is moved at the noise of their fall, at the cry the noise thereof was heard in the Red sea.

22 Behold, he shall come up and fly as the eagle, and spread his wings over Bozrah: and at that day shall the heart of the mighty men of Edom be as the heart of a woman in her pangs.

23 Concerning Damascus. Hamath is confounded, and Arpad: for they have heard evil tidings: they are fainthearted; there is sorrow on the sea; it cannot be quiet.

24 Damascus is waxed feeble, and turneth herself to flee, and fear hath seized on her: anguish and sorrows have taken her, as a woman in travail.

25 How is the city of praise not left, the city of my joy!

26 Therefore her young men shall fall in her streets, and all the men of war shall be cut off in that day, saith the Lord of hosts.

27 And I will kindle a fire in the wall of Damascus, and it shall consume the palaces of Benhadad.

28 Concerning Kedar, and concerning the kingdoms of Hazor, which Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon shall smite, thus saith the Lord; Arise ye, go up to Kedar, and spoil the men of the east.

29 Their tents and their flocks shall they take away: they shall take to themselves their curtains, and all their vessels, and their camels; and they shall cry unto them, Fear is on every side.

30 Flee, get you far off, dwell deep, O ye inhabitants of Hazor, saith the Lord; for Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon hath taken counsel against you, and hath conceived a purpose against you.

31 Arise, get you up unto the wealthy nation, that dwelleth without care, saith the Lord, which have neither gates nor bars, which dwell alone.

32 And their camels shall be a booty, and the multitude of their cattle a spoil: and I will scatter into all winds them that are in the utmost corners; and I will bring their calamity from all sides thereof, saith the Lord.

33 And Hazor shall be a dwelling for dragons, and a desolation for ever: there shall no man abide there, nor any son of man dwell in it.

34 The word of the Lord that came to Jeremiah the prophet against Elam in the beginning of the reign of Zedekiah king of Judah, saying,

35 Thus saith the Lord of hosts; Behold, I will break the bow of Elam, the chief of their might.

36 And upon Elam will I bring the four winds from the four quarters of heaven, and will scatter them toward all those winds; and there shall be no nation whither the outcasts of Elam shall not come.

37 For I will cause Elam to be dismayed before their enemies, and before them that seek their life: and I will bring evil upon them, even my fierce anger, saith the Lord; and I will send the sword after them, till I have consumed them:

38 And I will set my throne in Elam, and will destroy from thence the king and the princes, saith the Lord.

39 But it shall come to pass in the latter days, that I will bring again the captivity of Elam, saith the Lord.

  1. The Word of God-
Its a feeding tool for our soul, heart, spirit.
When God speaks its like when my earrhly father would speak to me but more deeper and more wonderful more fullfilling. I dont talk to my earthly father but I do Jesus.aIm in Love with God{Jesus).31/ arise-get you up unto the wealthy nation, that dwelleth without care, saith the Lord, which have neither gates nor bars, which dwell alone.
There are some places that God wants to put us /me where I can rely on Him. And only Him where there’s no distractions. Dear Lord, I want to go there and so I can be An example to tge lost so they can follow you.

  2. 16 Thy terribleness hath deceived thee, and the pride of thine heart, O thou that dwellest in the clefts of the rock, that holdest the height of the hill: though thou shouldest make thy nest as high as the eagle, I will bring thee down from thence, saith the Lord.

    DECEPTION AT IT’S BEST

Thy terribleness, who would think that our being terrible could be what deceived us. Deception is an horrible problem! Deception has a way of not letting us see us as we really are. Our terribleness is caused because of our attitude.
Many things cause us problems and our pride is at the top of the list and all things that make us have a bad attitude let us know God will bring us down from our high place. We can never get to high that God cannot bring us down!!
Deception does not let us know our true problem. Most of the time we blame our problems on other things. This is deception. We need to see what is going on and allow God to help us.

  3. iLove to eat the Word

25 How is the city of praise not left, the city of my joy!

The city of praise is the city of God’s joy. The church that praises God with the whole heart is the church that brings joy to the heart of God.

Jesus will make intercession for us when we bring him joy.

(John 17:13 KJV) And now come I to thee; and these things I speak in the world, that they might have my joy fulfilled in themselves.

(John 17:14 KJV) I have given them thy word; and the world hath hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.

(John 17:15 KJV) I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil.

(John 17:16 KJV) They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.

(John 17:17 KJV) Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.

(John 17:18 KJV) As thou hast sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world.

Lets bring joy to God and praise him!

  4. 9 If grapegatherers come to thee, would they not leave some gleaning grapes? if thieves by night, they will destroy till they have enough.

When thieves break into homes at night, they don’t empty the whole house – they only take a few, chosen items. When Jesus returns (as a thief in the night) He isn’t taking everyone with Him, only the chosen few. Are we living in a way that He will choose us on That day?

  5. Verse 16 MSG “You think you’re so great—strutting across the stage of history, Living high in the impregnable rocks, acting like king of the mountain. You think you’re above it all, don’t you, like an eagle in its aerie?
Well, you’re headed for a fall. I’ll bring you crashing to the ground.” God’s Decree.”

Same verse AMP “Your [object of] horror (your idol) has deceived you, and the pride of your heart [has deceived you], O you who dwell in the clefts of the rock [Sela or Petra], who hold and occupy the height of the hill. Though you make your nest as high as the eagle’s, I will bring you down from there, says the Lord.”

Proverbs 16:18 MSG “First pride, then the crash—the bigger the ego, the harder the fall.”

  6. 15-16 “Ah, Edom, I’m dropping you to last place among nations,
the bottom of the heap, kicked around.
    You think you’re so great—
strutting across the stage of history,
Living high in the impregnable rocks,
acting like king of the mountain.
You think you’re above it all, don’t you,
like an eagle in its aerie?
Well, you’re headed for a fall.
I’ll bring you crashing to the ground.” God’s Decree. MSG

Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.
    Proverbs 16:18 KJV
Don’t get so caught up in your own self that you can’t hear God talking to you. In todays world the human being has the attitude give me give me my name is Jimmy. How about praying for your brother and sisters needs in the church instead of always asking God for something. Pray God blesses your church, your pastor and pastor wife and the leadership of the church. I want to have a humble spirit not a spirit of i’m better than you. God help us all to have the right attitude.

  7. Hath Israel no sons?

1Concerning the Ammonites, thus saith the Lord; Hath Israel no sons? hath he no heir? why then doth their king inherit Gad, and his people dwell in his cities?

I heard Bishop Wayne Huntley preach this message. It changed my life. What am I doing to take the Barton of God from my Pastor? How am I preparing myself to answer the call in my life?

    Romans 8:
17 And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with [him], that we may be also glorified together.

The greatest thing that God could give us is the opportunity to be with him.

    Ephesians 1;
11 In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will:

    We are the sons!
    We are the heirs!
We are the ones that will carry this gospel to the next generation.
    Encourage us elders!
    Teach us Preachers!
    Challenge us Pastor!

For we are the future of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

  8. 14 I have heard a rumour from the Lord, and an ambassador is sent unto the heathen, saying, Gather ye together, and come against her, and rise up to the battle.
15 For, lo, I will make thee small among the heathen, and despised among men.

Israel has always been a people that the world underestimates. They are also a people that not many like. Now the Pentecostal Church is likened unto Israel due to that the world underestimates us,and since they don’t understand us we are disliked. Keep the Faith my brothers and sisters. We Win in the End.

  9. THE HEART OF GOD

.25 How is the city of praise not left, the city of my joy!

IN the midst of executing judgement the LORD pauses to grieve over the absent praise. God established the Praises of his people to be the execution of HIS great power. The LORD reveals here to us the supernatural power of praise and the hope that Praise brings to the believer.

Through PRAISE the LORD GOD would have been able to deliver HIS people from their calamity.

Through PRAISE we bring the LORD joy. When we PRAISE the LORD JESUS we bring HIM joy!

Nehemiah 8:10 Then he said unto them, Go your way , eat the fat , and drink the sweet , and send portions unto them for whom nothing is prepared : for this day is holy unto our Lord : neither be ye sorry ; for the joy of the LORD is your strength .

THE HEART OF GOD is accessed and found in PRAISE. Praise honors GOD, pleases GOD, exalts GOD, and brings JOY to GOD. Loose the LION of GOD in your LIFE today! Praise his great name!

    Send up Judah!

    I Praise you JESUS.

    iPraise
    iPray
    iWork
    iGive
    iReap

…Thank you JESUS for a signal to blog for today!

  10. God Priority is the Orphan and the Widow.

11 Leave thy fatherless children, I will preserve them alive; and let thy widows trust in me.

James 1:27 – Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, [and] to keep himself unspotted from the world.

Exodus 22:22 – Ye shall not afflict any widow, or fatherless child.

God is very serious when it comes to the fatherless children and the widows. He will ALWAYS take care of them. So today, remember so many of our children that come to Sunday school are fatherless, and we have widows in our mist, and in the nursing homes. Love them, take care of them, and bring them His JOY.

  11. I will set my throne in Elam,” says the Lord, “and I will destroy its king and officials. (Jeremiah 49:38 NLT)

Jesus must be King of our lives. You can’t have two kings trying to rule one area. It won’t work. Who would you answer to?

No servant is able to serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will stand by and be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon (riches, or anything in which you trust and on which you rely). (Luke 16:13 AMP)

  12. 16 Thy terribleness hath deceived thee, and the pride of thine heart, O thou that dwellest in the clefts of the rock, that holdest the height of the hill: though thou shouldest make thy nest as high as the eagle, I will bring thee down from thence, saith the Lord.

It’s not our job to exalt ourselves and live in a mindset that is prideful. The Lord is far from the prideful. Hallelujah for a God that gave us an example of humility when he robed himself in flesh to come and die for us. If we are continually striving to be like Jesus, to Christlike then we won’t be prideful, Jesus never was

  13. 25 How is the city of praise not left, the city of my joy!

Even in His anger God is searching for a repentant heart. His heart is broken and He is looking for someone to cry out as David did is Psalm 51…

9 Hide thy face from my sins, and blot out all mine iniquities.

10 Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.

11 Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me.

12 Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit.

13 Then will I teach transgressors thy ways; and sinners shall be converted unto thee.

14 Deliver me from bloodguiltiness, O God, thou God of my salvation: and my tongue shall sing aloud of thy righteousness.

15 O Lord, open thou my lips; and my mouth shall shew forth thy praise.

Not only is the city left desolate but so are the people. Psalm 22:3 says:
But thou art holy, O thou that inhabitest the praises of Israel.
This scripture and their sin tells me that their lives where void. Praise and righteousness goes hand and hand. I can shout and dance all night long at church but if I’m not living a life of holiness and righteousness I’m still void. But praise be to God, that the moment I start walking in obedience, living a overcoming life of righteousness, and praise God continually I gain strength through Him and my life truly pleases Him.

  14. 5 Behold, I will bring a fear upon thee, saith the Lord God of hosts, from all those that be about thee; and ye shall be driven out every man right forth; and none shall gather up him that wandereth.

When we are out of the will of God and refuse to get right it opens a door for God to send spirits in out lives such as fear. But when we live for God he doesn’t give us that but rather his own Spirit. Why then should we be afraid?

    2 Timothy 1:7
For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

  15. -5 Behold,I will bring fear upon thee, saith the Lord
God of hosts, from all those that be about thee, and ye
shall be driven out every man right forth;and none shall
    gather up him that wandereth.
-Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.
    Proverbs 16:18 KJV
-Proverbs 16:18 MSG “First pride, then the crash—the bigger the ego, the harder the fall.”
altho everything seems difficult at one point you gotta keep your head high and faith strong cause you can do all things through Christ so don’t stop now..keep fighting weve come to fat to stop at were we are at jesus loves us and it hurt him to see us go back to the lifestyle we had then

  16. Praise in spite of, this use to be hard for me to understand but anything that you dont understand is hard to do but my God has given me revelation. I no longer feel like i have to be sad or down when trouble come because as long as i send up my praise to my heavenly father, the stress seems to just roll away and that problem that look to be the size of a mountain begans to get smaller as my praise grows louder and deeper from my heart to Gods ears. I will praise the Lord with all that i am, wiyh all that i have and with all that he would have me to be.

  17. This chapter illustrates appointed. Their appointed time had come. There is an appointed time, as such one would be wise to heed the word of God (Jesus), and the man of God; “Commit thy works unto the Lord, and thy thoughts shall be established. The Lord hath made all things for himself: yea, even the wicked for the day of evil. Every one that is proud in heart is an abomination to the Lord: though hand join in hand, he shall not be unpunished”. What a mighty God we serve! May the good Lord Bless you all in Jesus name, Amen

  18. 16 You think you’re so great— strutting across the stage of history, Living high in the impregnable rocks, acting like king of the mountain. You think you’re above it all, don’t you, like an eagle in its aerie? Well, you’re headed for a fall. I’ll bring you crashing to the ground.” God’s Decree. (MSG)

  19. 12 And this is what the Lord says: “If the innocent must suffer, how much more must you! You will not go unpunished! You must drink this cup of judgment!

The importance of having God in you life. Accepting Jesus as your savior, receiving the Holy Ghost. God’s people may suffer, but having God in your life, you have eternal salvation. Your children (the innocent) depend on you–the parent– for their protection. As parents we provide God’s covering over them.

  20. God is going to put us where He wants us and we are expected to be sensitive and obedient.
Lord allow me to hear your voice and obey!

  21. Judgements

    Ammonites
    Jeremiah 49:1 (KJV 1900)
    Concerning the Ammonites, thus saith the Lord;
Hath Israel no sons? hath he no heir?
Why then doth their king inherit Gad,
And his people dwell in his cities?

Fear, backsliding, in the wrong place.

    Edom
    Jeremiah 49:16 (KJV 1900)
16 Thy terribleness hath deceived thee, and the pride of thine heart,
O thou that dwellest in the clefts of the rock,
That holdest the height of the hill:
Though thou shouldest make thy nest as high as the eagle,
I will bring thee down from thence, saith the Lord.

    Fear, and Pride

    Damascus
    Jeremiah 49:24–25 (KJV 1900)
24 Damascus is waxed feeble, and turneth herself to flee,
And fear hath seized on her:
Anguish and sorrows have taken her, as a woman in travail.
25 How is the city of praise not left,
    The city of my joy!

    Fear, and no joy.

Each of the people have one thing in common: fear. God did not give us the spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind.

God takes fear very seriously. So serious that he spoke about not fearing 365 times in the bible. This is one time for every day of the year.

We serve a mighty God who epicly proclaims to his people “chill, I got this!”

  22. God will punish all evil doers and reward those who obey his word. We cannot get caught up in the things of this world. We must keep our focus on God and he will make a way.

  23. 16 Thy terribleness hath deceived thee, and the pride of thine heart, O thou that dwellest in the clefts of the rock, that holdest the height of the hill: though thou shouldest make thy nest as high as the eagle, I will bring thee down from thence, saith the Lord.

    Isaiah 66: 2
2 For all those things hath mine hand made, and all those things have been, saith the Lord: but to this man will I look, even to him that is poor and of a contrite spirit, and trembleth at my word.

We must keep a humble attitude and allow his word to guide & lead us so that we can cast down all pride.

  24. 22 Behold, he shall come up and fly as the eagle, and spread his wings over Bozrah: and at that day shall the heart of the mighty men of Edom be as the heart of a woman in her pangs.

  25. Jeremiah 49:11 But I will protect the orphans who remain among you.Your widows, too, can depend on me for help.”

Always faithful to His Word, the Lord my God. He is a father to the fatherless, and protects the widows too. Something about a father figure, headship, that the Lord takes very personal. He is the father of all and cares for us as His own children. A man has the opprtunity to be a father and a husband, a protector to both, thr child and the wife. I see it very interesting how the Lord steps in where other men have cowarded out.
There is something about a man that is just special; a father and a husband. Our role is very important as headship and leaders of our homes.

Psalm 27:10 When my father and my mother forsake me, then the Lord will take me up.

  26. 1Concerning the Ammonites, thus saith the Lord; Hath Israel no sons? hath he no heir? why then doth their king inherit Gad, and his people dwell in his cities?
We must prepare ourselves to be the heirs that God want us to be in the kingdom. I have been taught “There is no sucess without a successor” you must have someone that you are training at all times to be ready for the future and to hand the baton to when the time comes.

  27. Restored

    Jeremiah 49:1-2 NLT
1 This message was given concerning the Ammonites. This is what the LORD says: “Are there no descendants of Israel to inherit the land of Gad? Why are you, who worship Molech, living in its towns? 2 In the days to come,” says the LORD, “I will sound the battle cry against your city of Rabbah. It will become a desolate heap of ruins, and the neighboring towns will be burned. Then Israel will take back the land you took from her,” says the LORD.

There’s something that troubles us deep down when we lose something that we know belongs to *us.* Surface things like worldly possessions can upset, but what should truly move us are spiritual losses. Spiritual authority, territory taken, souls won, victory over sin, etc; these sorts of losses should grieve us deeply. We are overcomers, more than conquerors, yet so often we position ourselves by our choices to lose our inheritance. But sometimes it’s more than that, sometimes we experience loss for no apparent reason and we, like Job, don’t really know what to make of the situation. There comes a point, however, when we must make up in our mind that defeat is not our destiny, and we can claim what was lost if God said it’s ours. After all, it’s not our word but His the enemy faces.

There should be something in us that is more than greived but is determined to reclaim what was lost. We may not know what God has in store but claiming His promises and walking in trust and obedience to Him positions us for restoration. I’m reminded of the classic Tye Tribbett song, “I want it all back!” Where’s our faith? Hung up on the loss or praising God for the V-I-C-T-O-R-Y?

    Romans 8:28
And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

  28. Wisdom
7 Concerning Edom, thus saith the Lord of hosts; Is wisdom no more in Teman? is counsel perished from the prudent? is their wisdom vanished?

There are many times in te Bible that it talks about wisdom. It talks about how to get it, where it comes from, and wht it does for you. The basic understanding is that wisdom comes from God and the fear of the Lord. It is also part of the foundations tat you build upon in life. Where there is no wisdom, things fall apart.

There is no wisdom nor understanding nor counsel against the Lord. (Proverbs 21:30 KJV)
Through wisdom is an house builded; and by understanding it is established: (Proverbs 24:3 KJV)
Happy is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding. (Proverbs 3:13 KJV)
Wisdom strengtheneth the wise more than ten mighty men which are in the city. (Ecclesiastes 7:19 KJV)
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do his commandments: his praise endureth for ever. (Psalms 111:10 KJV)
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction. (Proverbs 1:7 KJV)

Seek God. You will gather more wisdom.

  29. SANTO!!! SANTO!!! SANTO!!!
26 Therefore her young men shall fall in her streets, and all the men of war shall be cut off in that day, saith the Lord of hosts.

Where and what is our trust in? Do we really want to entrust our future generations to the traditions of this world? If our answer is no ( and it should be) then we better hurry up and STAND FIRM, why??? because they are watching us and we are their ONLY example!!! OUR TRUST SHOULD BE IN JESUS!!! HE AND ONLY HE IS AND WILL CONTINUE TO BE OUR HELP IN TIME OF NEED!!! GOD HAS BEEN MORE THAN GOOD TO US!!! WHY WOULDN’T WE STAND FOR WHATS RIGHT AND BE THE HELP THAT THIS DIEING WORLD WILL CONTINUE TO NEED…… JESUS YOU ARE SO FAITHFUL AND MIGHTY!!! OOOOO JESUS I LOVE YOU!!! DADDY YOU ARE AMAZING AND GREAT!!! THANK YOU JESUS FOR YOUR FAITHFULNESS!!! =D

  30. 4 Wherefore gloriest thou in the valleys, thy flowing valley, O backsliding daughter? that trusted in her treasures, saying, Who shall come unto me?
5 Behold, I will bring a fear upon thee, saith the Lord God of hosts, from all those that be about thee; and ye shall be driven out every man right forth; and none shall gather up him that wandereth.

    Trust

    Where does our trust lie?

I heard some talking about a pledge that they had given, saying that they could sacrifice, and and make a couple payments, and that they had it all figured out, so that they could cover their pledges by their own power.

I listened, and thought about my commitment. I thought “I cannot do this of my own, Lord, this is what you told me, and this is what you have to provide, because I cannot.” As I sat there, He spoke back a couple words, “That is where their faith is, and this is where yours is, but yours is not where I am building it to. Remember baby steps.”

I know I have a long way to go, but He didn’t bring me this far to leave me laying, He still has more!

  31. 7 Concerning Edom, thus saith the Lord of hosts; Is wisdom no more in Teman? is counsel perished from the prudent? is their wisdom vanished?

This is my question for the politics today. Where is the wisdom of the people who vote? Where is the wisdom of Congress? Wisdom rests in God. We must pray for the leaders of our nation and for the leaders of our community.

  32. God’s Care

Hebrew law required grape harvesters to leave behind some produce for widows and orphans (Lev 19:10; Dt 24:21). These poor of the land would come behind the harvesters to “glean” what had been left behind. Ruth is probably the Bible’s most memorable gleaner (Ru 2:2). Jeremiah reminds the people of this provision command of God for the needy. By contrast, however, God vows to “strip Esau bare” (Jer 49:10), leaving nothing behind. The nation of Ammon will be completely destroyed.

Some view Jeremiah 49:11 “leave your orphans; I will protect their lives. Your widows too can trust me.” as a threat from God. If Edom (another name for the people of Ammon) turn their children over to God, he will do with them as he wills. An interpretation that is more in line with God’s character would be to see this verse as an expression of God’s compassion for the defenseless. God is calling for his prodigal son to come home, at the expense of their prideful parents. Their parents know that their father Issac worshiped Jehovah the One true God, yet they have refused to keep his commands. God’s care and redemption is highlighted here, not just for Israel but for the backslid son, and the pagan enslaved daughter. At the expense of judgment, He wants to set all of us free.
